Climate change has placed global agriculture under significant pressure, especially impacting intensive crops—those that require high levels of inputs and labor to maximize productivity in limited areas.

Land Which became Our Land Once wild, crushed and tilled to dust Between the thumb and finger Of a mean, grabbing hand Channeled smooth To ease it’s path To the sea where it soon shall be And the sea becomes Our Sea To do with as we please #intensivefarming #groovy #notgroovy #meat #pollution #sea #soil (at Montrose, Angus)

PREPARE  AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRIES
It is obvious that many farmers are going to be displaced because of climate change. As their usual crops become unviable and broad scale farming becomes uneconomical because of costs it is impossible to continue to subsidise farmers that continue to farm or graze unsuitable animals in an unsustainable fashion. Yet farmers require government support. We require food production.
Suggested actions
• revitalise our agricultural support services that have provided excellent research and development in the past, new crops and animals can be developed.
• provide education for farmers that demonstrate alternative farming practices, for example move from cattle to goats
• only subsidise farmers that change their practice to accommodate a changing climate but retrain farmers unable to accommodate change
• encourage small farming practices such as permaculture, greenhouse production, urban farms,
Note: Intensive farming practices have been shown to be as productive as industrial broad scale farming
• stop selling water off or subsidising in any way corporations that persist in growing water hungry crops such as cotton and almonds.
• protect our surface and artesian water from destructive and unsustainable industries
• support farmers to plan moves from floodplains or cope with more flooding

Factory farming reaches new heights in China. The average Chinese person today pigs out on 40kg (88lbs) of pork a year, up from 12kg in 1980. Although China constitutes just one-fifth of the world’s population, it consumes half of its pork. Unfortunately for Chinese carnivores, however, the country has had trouble rearing enough pigs to meet growing demand. China is the third-largest market for American pig exports. To meet domestic demand producers are building facilities like the Yangxiang high-rise pig farm, Yaji Mountain Forest Park in Guangxi province, where the raising of pigs has reached a new level of industrialisation.
