For this photo, I employed Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), which is when the photographer moves the camera while the shutter is open while using a slower shutter speed. You can see it best in how the line of trees lives along the water almost as much as against the skyline.

At its best, ICM disconnects us from reality while maintaining contact with truth. It gives us a chance to take something solid and make it ethereal. It adds movement to the static and reduces the complex into something similar. A tree can become lines and curves and a blend of colors while still maintain tree-ness. A highlighted guitar can hold tighter to reality while a face gives way to anonymity. A person becomes a ghost. The water becomes a wave.
