say what you will about IT (1990) as an adaptation but i think the creative choice of changing the narrative so that eddie kaspbrak could come out as a virgin, share (unprompted) that it’s because the only people he loves enough to fuck are the members of his 80% male childhood friend group, and then immediately kick the bucket is actually the greatest thing ever. Mike wonders how much longer Richie’s shenanigans will last before he’s booted out for blabbing so loudly. Not to mention drinking something so sticky near the return cart… Still, listening to his voices never fails to cheer him up during his otherwise dull shifts at the Derry Public Library.

In another life where I am better at writing, Richie and Mike friendship dynamics would always be at the top of my "details to include" list in my fics.

I hate when people portray the reddie dynamic as if Eddie just hates everything that makes Richie Richie. He rolls his eyes at Richie’s jokes, is grossed out by Richie, and is generally unimpressed by him.

Like no, Eddie adores Richie. Sure they love a good heated back and forth, and Eddie will call Richie out when it’s deserved, but fundamentally Eddie is deeply endeared to Richie’s humor, quirks, and eccentricities. My favorite portrayal of reddie is when they respect each other, bc they have such a deep understanding of who the other is to their core.

Eddie and Richie make for such an interesting pairing bc they truly are so different, polar opposite in many ways. But while their differences are fun to explore, I feel that what truly makes them them is what they have in common too.

Richie: Well, to be fair the whole cavern was collapsing, I thought we were all going to die… I knew you would hate staying down there. At least you wouldn’t be alone if I stayed. And I would have done it for any of the other Losers. It made sense in the moment. Looking back I’m glad that I forced Mike to help me drag you out of there. Anyway, how else would I keep bugging you? There’s 27 years I need to catch up on. So much time without Trashmouth running his mouth? How did you even survive?
