thinking about thanatos peforming edgar allan poe's "the raven"
(ieiunusverse/rendezvous with the vampire meta + an imagine under the cut, long post, thanks for reading!)
i already lean pretty heavily on corvid metaphors for thanatos's story in general, you'll often see him described as a "damp raven" rather than a "wet cat" (though he is both) and his 50-year stint as avrae's "Harbinger of Destruction" (which was the least cringe out of the names I tried) during the culling war hammers that home, he develops a reputation as a dark-haired omen of evil to come to the point where even the sight of him will set a vampire who survived the culling war on edge. he carries himself with suave decorum and an easy smile, but he's aware that there's not very much he can do to make people feel comfortable around him at this point, the only thing he can do is pretend he doesn't notice how much everyone hates him
but as a iuventus he's expected to have some sort of performing arts skill, whether that be song or dance or theater or what have you, and i feel like theater is something he's been doing since he was a young man in ancient greece, one of the only places he felt he could be himself (though he often got shoved into female roles because of his face and figure and that didn't help with feeling that no one saw him as a man). he loves standing on a stage and delivering lines, he excels at soliloquy and capturing the attention of an audience (perhaps because his entire life is a performance)
i've been imagining a scene in which he's asked to perform at some house iuventae event, the house has rather strict guidelines about who's allowed to be given their contracts and maybe his sire is under investigation for making poor choices and all of their scions are asked to prove that they really have the spirit of the house
the poem is probably new at that point, it was published in 1845 and around then than's living in england and teaching philosophy at oxford, he probably gets the letter with the house seal, the lute and the pen surrounded by the ouroboros, on it in green wax and sits in his study to read it, looking around the room trying to figure out what he'd even do. his eyes fall on last week's copy of the new york evening mirror and he recalls what he read in it last week, new work from poe, an author he loves. he fishes the paper out of a stack of similar ones from both england and america, and goes over it a few times, internalizing it, finding what it means to him. it's functionally a soliloquy, and he's been playing the role of hamlet almost since it was created, it's almost as if the poem was made for him to perform. he resolves to memorize it.
the day comes. he's alone on the stage with his props: a chair, a velvet ottoman, a book, and a bust of Lord Iuventus, partially for the comedic effect and partially because it was easy to get. he sits in his chair, book hanging listlessly from his fingers. his eyes, unfocused, gaze into the audience, and he begins to speak.
his audience is enraptured. most of them haven't heard the poem before, they don't know how it ends, they hang on his every word. the man on the stage is no longer thanatos, but the tormented protagonist of the poem, red eyes blazing with fury as he rails against the grief within his heart, the cruel universe that separated him from his love, and the raven that represents them both. thanatos spent weeks learning to produce the bird out of Shadow. his magic gives it form in a way that fully convinces the onlooker that it is a foul prophet of evil deeds.
"and my soul / from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor / shall be lifted..." he pauses. his eyes turn to the audience, seeking the gaze of his sire. his gaze fixes on them. "nevermore."
the room is silent. the audience is holding their breath. he waits for several charged seconds, allowing the grief of the moment to mature. then, he gets to his feet, picks up his book and his bust, and leaves the stage.
no one questions his sire's choice again.
ieiunusverse taglist: @albatris, @milkshakes-lust-and-chiral-dust, @thethistlegirlwrites and @crash-bump-bring-the-whump for being the only person in the world who actually likes thanatos XD

Different Jedi Traditions and Cultures, Pt. 2
(some more ideas on Jedi cultural traits across planets and species)
Rodian, Trandoshan, and Kaleesh Jedi share a view of the Force tied to hunting, both spiritual in being mindful and literal in getting permission to hunt for food. They honor their native cultures, but they learn to emphasize self-restraint as an act of strength rather than seek bloodshed or conquest. Rodians and Trandoshans tend to wear standard brown cloaks and robes. Kaleesh Jedi wear traditional bone masks provided the animals they came from did not suffer.
Chiss Jedi hail from deep in the Unknown Regions, which they call “The Chaos.” These Jedi—whether they are exiles or young navigators who left the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet—know the Force as both “Third Sight” and “The Flame.” While some have the desire to be Consular Jedi, most Chiss serve as peacekeepers or investigators. They often wear simple black or white tunics under their traditional brown robes.
Ithorian Jedi often seek to be gentle when using their twin mouths around other beings, with some taking a full vow of silence. Some are pacifists who revere the Force as the will of the Mother Jungle on Ithor. Others bear the responsibility of a lightsaber and train exclusively in Form VI (Niman) to do as little harm as possible. In any case, every Ithorian Jedi is drawn to tending the garden at their local temple and growing food for their peers. Their robes have wider coverings for their necks and shoulders.
Jawa Jedi have an excitable nature and curiosity that they learn to temper with meditation and fixing broken machinery. They understand the Force as the fire behind the twin suns of Tatooine, the peace of finding shade, and the spark that animates both people and droids. They are hard to distinguish from other Jawas, wearing brown hooded robes of the same cut, but their lightsaber shotos are immaculate works of art and engineering.
Sullustan Jedi refer to the Force as the “song of the cosmos” itself, drawn to it by their large ears and relying less on their sensitive eyes in daily affairs. Many of them show a gift for Force-guided navigation, recalling the tunnels of their home planet. Their robes have larger hoods to accommodate their ears and eyes.
Lothalite Jedi possess a deep connection to their homeworld, symbolized in the imagery of loth-cats and loth-wolves that adorn their works of art. They have a talent for receiving visions from the Force and bonding with animals. Jedi from Lothal wear robes in shades of red or green, often in a practical cut that makes it easy to blend into a crowd.
Bothan Jedi possess keen ears and noses, and their culture prizes ambition and intelligence gathering above all else. However, Bothan Jedi learn to practice humility and view the Force as a galaxywide web of life that goes far beyond anything their kind on Bothawui would consider. Their robes tend to be a bit more ornate than their peers’ attire, but none of it reduces their talent for stealth.
Alderaanian Jedi are drawn to the arts, history, and politics, which is why so many find their calling as artisans, archivists, and diplomats. Some prefer to be “anonymous” in the traditional Jedi robes, but others adopt linen tunics and woolen shoulder cloaks as their native attire. Following the destruction of Alderaan, many Survivors and their descendants who aspire to be Jedi consciously adopt the style and habits of Princess Leia Organa after she’s revealed to be Force-sensitive as well.
Kaminoan Jedi hail from a storm-ravaged ocean world and an austere scientific culture. Their approach to the Force is clinical and aloof on the surface, but full of rich emotion and strength when they reach out with their powers. Many show a talent for healing and research. They and the Quermians share a need for robes that accommodate their thin bodies and long slender necks.
The Jedi of Yoda’s species are rare, but most are legendary whenever they arise in the Order. Some speak in an archaic dialect of Basic, switching around the order of their subjects, objects, and verbs. Little is known about their homeworld or culture, but each member of the species is drawn to the Force in one way or another, whether in reverence or using its power. They wear smaller robes and use lightsaber shotos because of their stature, but most of their kind are capable of dramatic feats of the Force’s power that often leave them exhausted afterward.

Inktober with "Outlanders". Part 2
Tumblr media
7. Passport. Lamarr always has his ID in order, but this does not help him avoid suspicion, scrutiny or additional interviews, especially on planets that have suffered greatly in the past from the actions of the CIS, such as Ryloth.
Tumblr media
8. Hike. One of the avian natives of Rishi greets Sheeku, who was able to climb to the top to enjoy the beautiful mountain landscape almost from a bird's eye view.
Tumblr media
9. Sun. Sheeku takes advantage of the beautiful sunny weather to try out one of Utapau's unique extreme activities - varactyl mountaineering. In this case, it is necessary not only to maintain balance, but also to observe the dactillions soaring in the sky, whose habits will tell you when the wind begins to rise in order to have time to descend safely.
Tumblr media
10. Nomadic. Lamarr might call Ithor a paradise he would love to live in, so impressive are its carefully preserved nature, the life-respecting mentality of the Ithorians and their floating cities that drift above the surface of the planet.
Tumblr media
11. Snacks. This is Khauruk, the editor and one of the cameramen of the travel show "Outlanders". He is a serious and silent Wookiee with rather light fur and sad eyes. If Sheeku and Lamarr made the first season entirely on their own and for their own money, then Khauruk already worked with them on the second season. Their invitation to collaborate helped him leave Kashyyyk, where his fate could have been very sad. Well, starting from the third season, a full-fledged crew was already assembled, and Khauruk was an integral part of it. He likes his job and knows how to improve the quality of the footage, therefore he is interested in technical innovations always hoping that the crew will be able to afford them. His editing work never begins without a bowl of fresh wookiee-ookiees, which are said to have not only a pleasant taste but also an invigorating property.
Tumblr media
12. Remote. Sheeku does not hide his tears as he looks from the orbital city at the planet Duro, such a distant historical homeland that he has finally almost reached. He had wanted for so long to return to the roots of his family and his entire species, at least for a while.

im surprised nobody's asked this blog the obligatory "thoughts on other bosses" question
anyways thoughts on the other bosses in the asylum
[I was occupied with school and other stuff hi gusy im actually bac k]
"Other bosses? Well, the uncertified surely are a terrifying foe to deal with. I hold a lot of respect for them, their creator on the other hand... Not so much."
"I'm great friends with draco! I don't really like sir combat, a bit too strict. And minos? Well i haven't talk with him yet, he seems scary.
"I really fucking hate weegee. Uncert are fine, it just THOSE KAMI DUMMIES THAT RUIN EVERYTHING. And klev, pain in the ass to pr. Other than that, no opinions on the other bosses."
"We can tell- Klev?... Is he still suck in slungus?"
"Yeah."
"I used to friends with klev! We fell apart through, after he got sealed. I hope he's okay."
"Anyways, i hang out with 10hbm often so i dont have anything negative about him. A good friend of mine actually. Trash can, uhh."
"Their name is trash gang."
"A. Yeah trash gang, i dont care about them."
"Then what's the point in mentioning it?."
"Thought it would be funny to mention their name. Oh how forgetten they are."
"(This mf istg) Now that you mentioned 10hbm. I thought he was just a myth, meant to scare asylumers. Until i well, went to the forest and try to hunt him."
"You lost, didn't you."
"Welp, lets not talk about that."
"Y'k, i remember this one boss, that used lighting with his fist. Oh! Ithor, thats his name. He was-"
" I don't recall a boss named Ithor. Ya sure you aren't remember things wrong."
"No i-. Oh, you don't know. Nevermind."

doing that thing where i yell about star wars food again and-
Jewel-fruit from Ithor is described as having a hard shell
Jewel-fruit from Mon Calamari is described as being very sweet, and used to make alcohol, so probably juicy.
The fact that the Mon Calamari jewel-fruit is not described with a hard shell might mean it doesnt have as hard as a shell, and the Ithor jewel-fruit not being described as very sweet might mean its not as sweet as the mon calamari jewel-fruit. so why are they named the same name? Why do they come from two different planets?
My theory: Someone took jewel-fruit from Mon Calamari and tried to grow it on Ithor but even though Ithor is also a wetland planet it is not 90% water the way Mon Calamari is so it evolved to save water and became harder and less sweet.
do yall agree or disagree
