The Jacquet round is over.  I don’t have a lot to say about it this time, mostly because I took the first pictures for it in early July and I finished writing it today, October 22.  I think this is the longest it’s taken me to finish a round in Bluewater.

Gilbert and Denise didn’t have too many adventures or funny moments, and their story didn’t really advance all that much this time around.  Honestly, I was mostly spending time with Denise because I’m sure she’s going to be gone in another round or two.  

One interesting thing I want to point out is that both Gilbert and Denise are changing their clothes slightly as the rounds go on.  Gilbert is back to his usual bright blue shirt after wearing black/gray for the first two to honor his dad’s memory.  Denise went from all black to purple this round, showing that she is slowly getting over Yves’s death as well.  

Next up are Chester Gieke and Cyd Roseland, which means we may be going on vacation again. (I honestly don’t remember...) See you then, whenever then happens to be!

I got so weary of endless testing that always seemed to take longer and longer that the next time my game passed the test, I went back in for some medieval makeovers. (The repositoried Celtic Bed set is 100% the culprit of the moment. I am now replacing it with the original and will then have to test for the next problem CC.) No lot builds, because I am missing a lot of stuff I want in, and I don’t fully trust Buy/Build Mode not to crash yet.

and Denise! They wound up slightly bland for Yeomen, but I don’t think either of them cares that much about style and fashion. Currently, I’m planning to have them run the local Hedge Tavern--although I recently realized that the idea is for Yeomen to be farmers, not Peasants, and am debating whether I need to have a hedge tavern in every subhood. Bluewater Village can support both a tavern AND a yeoman farmer, though, with two Yeoman families.

And Melody! I’m particularly pleased with Melody’s unladylike outfit, which I feel matches her original look pretty well, but they all turned out nice. They’re the Merchant family of Bluewater Village, and will probably own a Food Market like most of my starting Merchants. Might reevaluate that once I see how things go.

Finally, Florence Delarosa, the Gentry of Bluewater Village and my last sim of tonight! I’m not sure I noticed before her unique face shape, which is very cute when styled well, and I like how she turned out! Have not decided yet what her occupation should be, but her top priority is gonna be finding a husband with no inheritance of his own, so she can keep her title and position.

So, a very small update. Next sims to makeover are the Ramirez family, followed by Strangetown which I’m looking forward to. Strangetown, then Riverblossom Hills, then Veronaville, then Sim State University, then La Fiesta Tech, and finally Academie le Tour. That’ll be all the playables, and I’ll snag townies as they appear. I won’t be ready to play until I finish remodeling or rebuilding all the homes and businesses I need in Belladonna Cove, though, but makeovers are fun. I’m probably also going to do extremely light remodels on the other buildings in BDC, just enough so they look reasonably medieval from neighboring lots. Full remodels will be saved for after they are purchased and put into play.

I’m also pretty much out of stuff I can add to my spreadsheet or obsess over while I can’t play the game yet, which is a bummer, but for those unaware I am very proud of the calendar I worked out and the ages and birthdates I calculated for everyone. I also made up rules for ships and war and came up with some ROS events... I really need to be able to play! All I have left is assigning traits, secondary aspirations, and hobbies, all of which are better done in game anyway. Oh, and I also realized that some of the houses I have built might be too big, and LOTS of the premade houses coming up are going to be too big for the class of the inhabitants, so I’m gonna calculate a land value based on the size of the lot x 100, and sims living on a lot which has a value exceeding their social class-based rent will have to pay an additional 10% of the land value as part of the rent. This will encourage sims to move to a more appropriately sized lot if they can’t afford the one they came with.

What was Gilbert doing while his mom was out of town?  Not throwing a wild party, obviously. He’d promised.  But that didn’t mean he couldn’t have a bit of fun...

He and Breanna went on a date to the local beach.

Denise came home on Tuesday morning to find her son juggling espresso cups in the kitchen.  They were happy to see each other.

After their evening at the beach, Gilbert and Breanna spent a night at the local motel, doing exactly what you think they were doing.

And I think we’ll end this round with the Jacquets right here, with Denise giving Gilbert his present.

As the round began, Denise got an odd phone call.  She honestly didn’t understand most of what the person on the other end said, but the bottom line was, she owed extra tax money.  She told Gilbert about it and he investigated.  It sounded like a scam to him, but no, it turned out his dad had done something wrong in his taxes the previous year and they owed about $5000.  Gilbert took care of it.

Previously at the Jacquet household:

Denise decided that her grief for Yves wasn’t going to keep her from living life. She went back to the bakery with Gilbert. 

Denise noticed that Breanna seemed to have a crush on Gilbert and encouraged her to ask him out.

Gilbert and Breanna went on a date and had a very good time. 

Denise adopted a cat named Hardimos.

“Hey, mom?”

“Yes, Gilbert?”

“I know we had that issue with the back taxes, but we’re doing really well and we’ve got some extra cash.  What would you think about taking a vacation?”

“A vacation? Gilbert, I haven’t had a vacation since you were a boy.  Why do you think I need one now?”

Gilbert ran a hand through his hair.  “I just thought maybe you’d like a break. You could relax, let your hair down, do some more painting maybe? You deserve it.”

“You’re very sweet, Gilbert, but how could I leave you to run this place by yourself? Even with that Breanna girl, I just...I’d worry the whole time.”

“I can handle it.  Bre and me can do this together no problem. And you could call every night to check in.”

“And you’re not just doing this to have the house to yourself to canoodle with her? I remember, when you were fifteen, your father and I went out for one evening and you threw a party.” 

Gilbert rolled his eyes. “Mom, I was fifteen.  I’m an adult now.  I promise I’m not trying to get rid of you.  I just think you deserve a bit of a break.”

“I’ll think about it, Gilbert.  All right?  I’ll think about it.”

Thanks to a fantastic new mod by simler90, Breanna can finally wear her work uniform and keep her face at the same time.  Huzzah!

A few hours later, Denise walked upstairs to Gilbert’s room. “Gilbert?”

He turned from the computer desk.  “What’s up, Mom?”

“I’ve thought about what you said, about a vacation.  I think...you’re right.  I could stand a few days off.  I haven’t had a vacation since your father and I went to Champs les Sims for our 20th anniversary. If you think we have the money for it, then I’ll go.”

Gilbert grinned.  “We definitely have the money.  Where would you want to go?  Champs les Sims might be a little expensive, but there are places closer than that for a getaway.”

“Such as?”

“Come here and I’ll show you.”

Denise came over to the computer and Gilbert pulled up a few different websites.  Eventually, Denise decided on a trip to Three Lakes, a mountain community a few hours north of Bluewater.  Gilbert helped her choose a resort to stay at, since she was dead set against staying in a tent, and they booked a flight for a couple days later.  Once it was all done, Gilbert stood up and hugged his mom.

“I really think this’ll be good for you,” he said. “And I swear, I won’t throw any wild crazy parties while you’re gone.”

They went swimming in the ocean (not for very long, considering it was cold!)

They also had fun on the pirate ship.

Cyd Roseland stopped by as Gilbert was cleaning up at the end of the day.  They hadn’t really met before, but Gilbert was interested in Cyd’s cool outfit and they ended up having a good chat.  After finding out that Cyd had recently returned from Takemizu Village, Gilbert had an idea.

After three days, Denise was ready to go home.  She’d had an interesting time.  It would have been much better if Yves had been with her, but she did feel more relaxed than she had for ages.  Still, she was ready to go back to Bluewater.
