This is a beautiful series. I smiled, laughed and cried. This is the story of a mother who loves her children and will fight to the teeth to protect them. As a mother myself, I could understand her feelings and her actions. Queen Im Hwa Ryeong is an intelligent woman, street smart, and she has learned to play the politics game to protect her five sons. He eldest, the Crown Prince and his own wife, little boy and his youngest on the way are her pride and joy. He is the model child everyone would want to have. She worries about his health.

When the king decides to look for a substitute for the Crown Prince's assistant, the Queen will have to prepare her other four carefree sons so they can show they are just as worthy as their other half-brothers. But as she tries to do so without alarming them, she runs around inside and outside the palace looking for them.

Her second son, Grand Prince Seong Nam, was taken away from her when he was born. She was able to bring him home after years of living outside like a commoner. He feels like an outsider inside the palace and likes to train outside, but he loves his brothers, and cherishes his relationship with his older brother.

Grand Prince Muan is a young man in love with a woman of low birth. His mother is constantly getting him out of her home and bring him back to the palace.

Grand Prince Kye Seong is a quiet young man who brings peace to his mother but carries a secret that could kill him.

Grand Prince Il Young is in his early teens and too young to care about politics.

As the political intrigues unravel, we see her relationship with her sons strengthen. This a woman who will protect, not only her children, but the king's other sons. . . She is strong and flexible, accepting and a problem solver.

I liked her relationship with her sons. How she interacts with each and gives them the support they need while also giving them wings. I also like her relationship with the King. Out of all his wives, the audience can see a special bond between them. He values her opinion and respects her. She respects him, although there are things she will always keep away from him in order to protect her sons. She is indeed her son's secret keeper and their support.

I really love what the title symbolizes. The umbrella she puts over her boys' heads when it rains and what it all means.

I truly love this story!

İntikam hikayesi olmak isteyen ama daha çok gizem olabilmiş bir hikayedi. İntikamı temel almaya çalışsa da gizemli sularda yüzerek seyirciye ters köşeler yapmaya çalışan ilginç bir hikayeydi. Dizi ikiz kardeşlerin görüntülü telefon konuşması ile başlıyor. Ok Chan-Mi(Shin Ye-Eun) ile Ok Chan-Kyu(Kang Yul) Busan’daki yetimhanede büyüyün kardeşlerdir. Küçük yaşta Ok Chan-Kyu evlat edinilince iki kardeş ayrılmak zorunda kalır ama hiç kopmazlar. İsmini Park Won-Seok olarak değiştiren ailesi ikisinin iletişimde olduğunu bilmemektedir. Görüntülü konuşması yarıda kesilen Ok Chan-Mi, 3 gün sonra kardeşinden haber alamayınca Busan’dan Seul’e gelir. Okulda kardeşini ararken, 3 gün önce intihar ettiğini öğrenir. Kardeşinin öldüğünü öğrenmesinin şoku ile yıkılan Ok Chan-Mi kardeşinin intihar ettiğine inanmaz. Polisten de destek bulamayınca kaydını kardeşinin okula aldırıp katilin peşine kendisi düşmeye karar verir.

Şimdi bu nokta da okuldaki karakterleri tanımaya başlıyoruz. Seul’a gelir gelmez Ji Soo-Heon(Lomon) ile tanışıyor. Ufak bir sürtüşme ile arkadaşlıkları başlıyor. Ji Soo-Heon tek başına yaşam mücadelesi veren bir çocuk. Annesi bakıma muhtaç olduğu için hastanede kalıyor. Başka kimsesi olmadığı için de küçüklüğünden beri gidip geldiği boks salonunun üst katında yaşıyor. Geçimini sağlamak için birçok işte yarı zamanlı çalıştığından çok arkadaşı, abisi ve seveni var. Aynı zamanda bu kadar dram yetmediğini düşünmüş olacaklar ki bir de beyin tümörü var. Tümörün durumuna göre bir anda kötüleşirse 1 sene ömrünün olduğu, kötüleşmez şans eseri bu şekilde kalırsa yaşamaya devam edeceği gibi saçma sapan bir açıklama yapılıyor. Okulda seviliyor, işi yerlerinde seviliyor. Tam bir halk kahramanı gibi.

Seok Jae-Bum(Seo Ji-Hoon) ise yarım dönem kayıp ile okula yeni dönen bir öğrenci. Geçirdiği trafik kazası nedeni ile 6 ay komada kalmış uyandığında da hafızasının bir kısmını kaybetmiş. Garip yazılmış bir karakter. Ama bir önceki izlediğim vampir dizisindeki vampirlerden bile daha karizmatik bir karakterdi. Davranışı, konuşması gizemli halleri derken “kral adam” vallahi dedirtti. Gizliden gizliye Ji Soo-Heon’un müritleri diyebileceğimiz, ilk kez gördüğüm albino Koreli Tae So-Yeon(Chung Su-Bin) ve hamile olduğu için okulu bırakmış, ama biraz karnım çıkınca tekrar giderim madem diye yeniden geri dönmüş olan Hong A-Jung(Woo Yeon) var. Ji Soo-Heon’a yanık olan şeytan karakterimiz ise Kook Ji-Hyun(Lee Soo-Min). Tam bir manipüle makinesi olarak bütün okulu mikser gibi karıştıran isim ise Gi O-Sung( Chae Sang-Woo). Okulun en sevimsiz zorba karakteri ise Sa Jung-Gyeong(Jin Ho-Eun)du.

Başrol kızımız Shin Ye-Eun’u “The Glory” dizisinde zorbaların zorbası kızın gençliği rolünde izlemiştik. Bu dizide zorbalarla mücadele eden hanım kızımız, orada tam bir baş ağrısıydı. Bu bakımdan iki zıtlığı da başarılı oynadığını düşünüyorum. Aynı zamanda kendisini Yumi’s Cells dizisinde Ba-Bi ile Yumi’nin arasına giren kızcağız olarak da izledik. Lomon’u ise All of us are dead dizisindeki combiye aşık olan cabbar genç öğrenci olarak hatırlayacaksınız.

Dizi ile ilgili yoruma dönecek olursam, hikayenin sade anlatımını çok beğendim. Her şey izleyiciyle birlikte ilerledi. Biri bir şey biliyormuş da bize söylemiyormuş, yok efendim biz öğrenmişiz de karakterler bir türlü çözememiş gibi insanı fıtık eden durumlar yoktu. Diziyi Ok Chan-Mi olarak izliyorsunuz. İkizinin başına gelen her yeni öğrendiği bilgide onunla hareket ediyorsunuz. Küçükken hikayenin burasında şunu seçiyorsan bu sayfaya git gibi kitaplar vardı. Ben diziden o tadı aldım.

Gerçekten ay ne saçma diye düşündüğüm bir nokta olmadı. Hatta çok farklı senaryolar kafamda canlanmıştı ama benim ön göremediğim bambaşka sonuçlar izledim. İzlerken tahmin edemediğim az dizi olduğu için bu bakımdan da beni çok tatmin etti diyebilirim. Son ana kadar her yeni çıkan bilgi bana keyif verdi. Tek hoşuma gitmeyen, eksik bulduğum şey romantizmdi. Ok Chan-Mi’nin iki erkekten biri ile yakınlaşmasını beklerdim. Sonunda bir el ele tutuşma gösterdiler ama asla tatmin edici değildi. My Name dizisindeki gibi daha ateşli bir yakınlaşma bekledim nedense. O da benim ayıbım.

Sonuç olarak diziden ben keyif aldım. Farklı ve ilginç bir hikaye olarak buldum. Tavsiye eder miyim? Ederim. Yüksek vaatleri olmayan, söylediğini veren ve tatmin eden bir diziydi.

Gsoul -Lost Game

It was a story that wanted to be about revenge but ended up leaning more into mystery. Although it tried to ground itself on the theme of vengeance, it mostly swam through mysterious waters, constantly aiming to surprise the audience. The drama starts with a video call between twin siblings. Ok Chan-Mi (Shin Ye-Eun) and Ok Chan-Kyu (Kang Yul) grew up together in an orphanage in Busan. When they were young, Ok Chan-Kyu was adopted, separating the siblings, though they remained in secret contact. His new family, unaware of their communication, changed his name to Park Won-Seok. During a video call that abruptly cuts off, Chan-Mi senses something is wrong. Three days later, after receiving no news, she leaves Busan for Seoul. There, while searching for him at his school, she learns that her brother supposedly committed suicide three days prior.

Devastated, Chan-Mi refuses to believe he took his own life. After failing to get support from the police, she transfers to her brother’s school and decides to find the killer herself.

At this point, we start meeting the school characters. Upon arriving in Seoul, Chan-Mi meets Ji Soo-Heon (Lomon). They first clash a little but soon become friends. Soo-Heon is a tough kid living on his own; his mother, who requires constant care, is hospitalized, and Soo-Heon survives by working multiple part-time jobs. He’s beloved both in and outside of school—a true “people’s champion” type. Just to pile on the drama, the writers also gave him a brain tumor, explained in the most absurd way: if it worsens, he has a year to live; if not, he could survive indefinitely.

Seok Jae-Bum (Seo Ji-Hoon) is another key character, returning to school after being in a coma for six months due to a car accident. He suffers from partial amnesia. Although oddly written, Jae-Bum somehow manages to be more charismatic than the vampires I recently watched in another drama. His mysterious aura made me think, “This guy is king material.”

Supporting characters orbiting Ji Soo-Heon include Tae So-Yeon (Chung Su-Bin), a rare albino Korean character, and Hong A-Jung (Woo Yeon), who left school because of her pregnancy but later returned. Kook Ji-Hyun (Lee Soo-Min) plays the classic manipulative troublemaker, while Gi O-Sung (Chae Sang-Woo) is the chaos-stirring mastermind. The most loathsome school bully is Sa Jung-Gyeong (Jin Ho-Eun).

Shin Ye-Eun, who plays Ok Chan-Mi, was previously seen as the young version of the vicious bully in The Glory. Here, she fights against bullies rather than embodying one, showing her ability to portray complete opposites successfully. She was also the girl who came between Ba-Bi and Yumi in Yumi’s Cells. Lomon is, of course, remembered as the bold student in love with his classmate in All of Us Are Dead.

As for my thoughts on the drama: I really liked its straightforward storytelling. Everything unfolded with the viewer rather than hiding secrets from us or dragging out revelations to the point of frustration. You experience the story directly through Ok Chan-Mi’s perspective, learning every piece of information alongside her. It reminded me of those old choose-your-own-adventure books—a nostalgic and engaging experience.

There wasn't a moment where I thought, “Wow, this is ridiculous.” In fact, I had several theories while watching, but the story went in directions I never predicted. It's rare for a drama to genuinely surprise me, so that was very satisfying. Every new revelation kept me hooked until the end.

The only thing I found lacking was the romance. I expected Chan-Mi to grow closer to one of the two male leads, but despite a small hand-holding moment at the end, there was no real romantic payoff. Honestly, I was hoping for something more intense—something like the chemistry in My Name. Maybe that’s just my own bias.

In conclusion, I genuinely enjoyed this drama. I found it unique and intriguing. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. It’s a show that makes modest promises, delivers exactly what it says it will, and leaves you satisfied.

THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Occupation-era experiments, blood spurts, sub-par meals, cargo ships, superpowers, mistaken identities, police negligence, manicures, gratuitous tattoos, fake metal grills, signal jamming, and corporate greed.

HOT TAKE: Looking back on the opening credits and counting how many film festival awards this movie received, all I can surmise is that everyone just went gaga over the amount of blood this film was willing to deal with. Like it's A LOT of blood. Spurting everywhere. Against science, medicine, and all that we know about Earthly gravity.

Be careful who you pick as your favorite character because there are like 30 of them and 99% of them will not last past the second act.

Hotel del luna

Hotel Del Luna is a mysterious place located in the city of Seoul. Jang Man Wol (IU) is a beautiful but equally hot-tempered woman who happens to be the hotel's manager. Following a serious mistake in the past, Man Wol can't leave the place. Things take an interesting turn when Chan Sung (Yeo Jin Goo) enters the scene.

A tale of ancient curses, lost souls and unexpected surprises, “Hotel Del Luna” is a drama combining mystery, romance and fantasy. I was transported by the universe and the protaganist's outfits are breathtaking. Each episode accompanies the story of a character, with a appealing plot runningin general.

The couple's dynamic tendency to argue makes some very funny scenes. On the other hand, Jang Ma Wol's past is captivating with the presence of a protagonist played by Lee Do Hyun.

One of my fav kdrama, and the most beautiful OST.

Mini-review:

This was exactly as fun as I hoped it would be. The writing did rely a bit too much on coincidences and small plot holes, but the characters and the story itself were entertaining as hell. I particularly enjoyed the whole thing about the urban legends and how they play into the mission, which is an original twist on the undercover spy trope. But really, the best thing about the show might be its cast. Seo Kang Joon is finally back and proving he's the perfect action hero, while Jin Ki Joo brings a lot of energy and spunk. Oh, and Kim Shin Rok makes for a delightful villain as well. So, even if Undercover High School isn't perfect, it will offer you a superfun experience filled to the brim with laughs and thrills.
