"What do you see in him?" "Everything you don't." - Jensen Ackles & Female Reader
Summary: Jensen says something at a con that initially bothers you that prompts a conversation where you admit that there are certain parts of his job that you could easily do without, not sure how that's going to affect your friendship moving forward.
A/N: I just want to make it clear that this is not criticism or commentary on what Jensen said at the Comic Con panel mentioned here or anything else he has said previously or even of his career or persona. This is just a story idea, an exploration of a theme or thread that could be within that world if that makes sense. This is a kind of sequel to "Come Pick Up Your Ghosts", and can be seen as a possible prequel leading up to "i want better for you...what's better for you than me?". Jensen and the Reader are still platonic here but if you squint, you might see a tiny little something. Just to clarify, there is no cheating/infidelity going on here, implied, suggested, or otherwise. All unbeta'd. Prompt: "What do you see in him?" "Everything you don't." Warnings: language Word Count: 5372 First posted on here: 7/28/24
Your assistant placed a file on your desk, grabbing your attention. “For the Whitman case.”
You briefly glanced up at her. “Great, Lauren, thanks.”
She nodded, picked up your empty coffee mug, and beat a hasty retreat to get you a refill, closing the door behind her. You couldn’t help but smile as you went back to your computer screen. Lauren had only been working for you a few months since Janice had retired, but she already seemed to be a great fit and had everything down pat.
You still missed your former assistant sometimes, though. Not only had you both worked together seamlessly for years, she had become a close friend and an almost motherly figure to you in times when you needed it most. You kept in touch and she invited you for holiday dinners, but as happy as you were that she was living her best life these days, there were still some moments that creeped up on you when you missed her dearly. And this morning just happened to be one such moment.
Your phone began to buzz with an incoming call. You glanced at the screen, huffing out an irritated breath at the name that popped up. Speaking of some sage motherly-like advice, you sure could use some right about now. Aggravation wasn’t your usual reaction to your best friend calling you, but this morning before you came to work, you had been catching up on some of the highlights of his panel the other day and there was one soundbite in particular that had you clicking your tongue in disappointment. You had briefly spoke to Jensen on Saturday night and he had texted you yesterday but you hadn’t known any of the specifics of how the panel went other than “It went well.” Not until you opened your newsfeed on your phone earlier and a headline popped out at you about Vought Rising and The Boys cast’s appearance on a Comic Con panel this weekend, with a video attached. That video led you to look up others until you finally arrived at the one that made you close everything out altogether and concentrate on finishing your coffee to hurry out the door.
You rolled your eyes in annoyance when your phone continued to vibrate and you hit the button on the bluetooth headset in your ear. “Hey,” you greeted curtly when the call connected. “I can’t really talk right now, Jensen. I’m about to meet with a client and—”
“Why haven’t you been answering my texts or calls?”
“Shit,” you silently mouthed to yourself and clenched your hands together. You then quietly cleared your throat. “I just told you. I have a full schedule this morning and I can’t—”
“Bullshit.”
Okay yeah, it was bullshit, he was right. Well, actually not entirely; you really had been trying to bury yourself in work since you arrived, earlier than normal (you’d even beat Lauren into the office), in order to prevent you from thinking about what he’d said and why it bothered you so much. “It is not bullshit,” you stated calmly, your jaw tensed. “I have a lot of work to do to prepare for court later this week. I told you that.”
“Y/N, you texted me early this morning, saying and I quote ‘Good morning, going to be super busy this week. Tons of work to do,’” he continued reading the message you had sent him before putting your phone on Do Not Disturb until about half an hour ago. “‘Hope you have a good shoot in Vancouver. Talk soon.’ Really?”
At that time, Lauren had decided to reappear with your new coffee. You gave her an appreciative nod and opened the file she had left for you, scanning the documents inside. “Yes, really. I just told you, I have a full week.” You waited until Lauren left and the door was closed once more. “I don’t see why that’s an issue.”
“You know damn well why.”
You expelled a quiet breath, telling yourself to bite your tongue and remain professional. It usually worked but Jensen had always had a way of getting under your skin.
“You knew I was going to call you once I got to set this morning. We even agreed on the best time for me to call.”
You did and you knew that your text was going to bother him once he received it, proven by him immediately trying to call you after you had sent it. But you just needed some space to think.
Jensen was up North shooting an episode for a series he was guesting on, coming off of Comic Con in San Diego. He had asked you if you wanted to go with him, since you had never been, but you had politely declined knowing you had an upcoming court case that you needed to prepare for. And now, having seen the video and heard what you did, you were glad you hadn’t taken him up on his offer. You would have been unable to hide your disappointment the entire time until you both went on separate flights, you going back home and him heading to Canada.
“What the hell, Y/N?”
“I’m just busy,” you muttered, gazing over the papers in front of you, pen in your hand, poised and ready.
“You forget how well I know you. That text is your polite way of saying ‘don’t call me, I’ll call you’ which means you’re pissed at me and you don’t want to talk.” You winced at his matter of fact tone. He wasn’t exactly wrong. “So again, what the hell?”
Now that he had you on the phone, calling you on your attempt at temporarily pushing him away via text, you started to examine just why you were annoyed with him — something you had been trying to avoid much like his attempts to contact you the last few hours. Suffice it to say, he wasn’t going to let this go, you both were bound to get into an argument, and then you were going to get the space you wanted, albeit a cold and tense space, until one of you caved and apologized. Something that had become somewhat of a routine in your friendship, though rare since you both usually got along very well.
So now that he was holding your feet to the fire per se, now that he was not letting you push him away so easily, you had to really think about why you were pissed, why your gut had clenched when you first heard the voice of your best friend come down the line, and why his careless off-the-cuff joke had bothered you so much.
“Y/N,” he spoke to you in a quieter tone than a moment ago. “Come on, talk to me. What’s going on?”
You took a deep breath and tossed your pen onto your desk, sitting back in your chair. Fuck it. “‘Old titties’? Really?”
There was a beat of awkward, tension-filled silence, before Jensen immediately filled it. “Wait a second. That’s what you’re pissed at me about?” He let out a laugh of disbelief. “Seriously?”
You flinched and immediately sat up straight, grabbing papers and loudly straightening them into a neat pile on your desk. “You know what? I have a court case to prepare for and I also have a 12:30 who just arrived. I have a full day, you have a full day of shooting, so let’s just end it here, shall we? Have a great week, Jensen, and good luck. Talk soon.”
The laughter immediately stopped. “Whoa, hold up a second. Y/N, don’t—”
His voice was cut off as you pressed the button on your headset and then grabbed it, tossing it angrily onto your desk. Your phone started to buzz again but this time, you snatched it up, put the call to voicemail, and powered down the device before dumping it into your handbag and shutting the drawer it sat in. You clicked a button on your office phone and a moment later, Lauren’s voice filled your office.
“Yes, Ms. Y/L/N?”
“I’m going to be working on the Whitman case for the next couple of hours so please hold all calls.”
“Absolutely. Would you like me to order lunch for you in the meantime?”
A little bit of your fury went out of you at her sweet offer. Right, you were a professional, and no matter how much your friend had just pissed you off, you wouldn’t allow it to affect your work. “That would be great, Lauren. Thank you,” you let out in a deflating and tired breath.
“Of course. If you need anything else in the meantime, Ms. Y/L/N, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
You couldn’t help but smile at the phone. “Thank you.” You clicked off the button and dropped your head in your hands. You could still hear Jensen’s laughter and “ That’s what you’re pissed at me about? Seriously?” You couldn’t completely blame him for his reaction; you knew it was something small and stupid to be angry with him for. His response to Jeff’s question on that panel had nothing to do with you after all. But the minute he’d said those words, you couldn’t help but think back to that scene he had filmed with the two older actresses from season 3. Granted, a sexual attraction to much older women was part of Soldier Boy’s character, but at the time you’d watched that scene, while it had been amusing as it was meant to be, you couldn’t help but have respect for the two actresses willing to strip down and put themselves on display for the camera like that. That couldn’t have been easy, no matter the type of the career they had embarked on, and you were in awe, wishing you could have confidence like that when you reached that age. Hell, you could do with some of that confidence nowadays. You hadn’t had sex in forever and no one had seen your bare body outside of your doctors in the last five years or so. You also hadn’t been to the beach or any pools in that time so no one had exactly seen you in any swimwear either.
Truthfully, aging was a bit of a sensitive issue for you. Not in a superficial, skin deep kind of way, but very much in a holy-crap-my-body-is-starting-to-turn-against-me-with-every-single-year way. As you got older, you continued to have more and more compassion for your elders, knowing that someday you would eventually reach that phase of life yourself. It made you appreciate your present everyday life all the more, but that didn’t mean you liked being reminded of where you (and every single person on the planet) were eventually headed. So any new gray hairs you found; any sign of aging in your skin; the fact that you absolutely had to get up at least once a night to use the bathroom now, no exceptions; how you couldn’t go without at least 7 hours of sleep a night or you’d be exhausted the whole day and even sometimes still were, not to mention the day after that and the next — you weren’t exactly thrilled to get those reminders.
You knew what Jensen had said had nothing to do with you in the slightest and you weren’t narcissistic enough to act as if it had or take personal offense to it. Even though you had been disgusted at his choice of joke, you knew he was simply on and he was providing entertainment for the cast and crowd, like he always did. People laughed at the joke and you knew none of them viewed it the same way you did. Not one of them felt as if it was an unfair indictment of your sex when they got older (something that couldn’t be helped) or if it was a commentary of disgust at the average older woman’s body as she aged or even something completely misogynistic (and even if it was, it was in character which is usually what Jensen tended to aim for when doing these appearances). No, you knew it had been taken as a simple joke as you should have taken it but you couldn’t help your visceral reaction of irritation followed by massive disappointment in your friend.
The Jensen you knew was not the Jensen the world saw. In your friendship, you had gotten to know a very different person altogether. While he enjoyed garnering laughs from people and was very quick to make witty remarks and jokes that added to a pleasant atmosphere that he encapsulated, you found over time that you really didn’t care for his public persona at times. Or at least when it came down to things like that. You knew it came with the job he was in, but you much preferred your friend to the Jensen Ackles that was solely for public consumption and engagement. Which is why you supposed you never took him up on his offers of visiting sets he was on, attending any Hollywood events such as The Boys Season 3 premiere in Brazil, or even meeting him at any of the several conventions he had booked over the years. Early on in your getting to know him, you had trouble reconciling the man you saw privately with the man who sat up on those stages or in front of those cameras. There was nothing wrong with either of them but over time, you found you much preferred it when there were no cameras, no screaming fans, no celebrities or Hollywood executives around — just him.
That didn’t mean you didn’t support his career; of course, you did. He had been successful on this chosen path way before you ever met him and he loved doing it. How could you not cheer on your best friend in a job that not only was he good at but also made him happy? But God, sometimes you wished fame, PR, and performativity weren’t part of the package. Despite the very nature of the business he had chosen to be in.
You straightened up and pulled the Whitman file closer to you. He hadn’t done anything wrong, nothing that you should feel angry with him for, and you would apologize to him later. Right now, though, you needed to get your head back into your own career and prepare for court that would be happening in the next two days’ time.
This whole thing was going to have to wait. Until you could make sense of things for yourself at least.
You watched as the couple on your screen awkwardly flirted, popping a yogurt-covered raisin into your mouth. The film wasn’t one you would usually check out; romantic comedies weren’t really your thing, especially the ones made these days. But there had been a particular selling point that caught your eye, that then had you watching the trailer, and before you knew it, you were fully invested in the movie and actually laughing at some of the cringe-inducing moments but also blatantly honest humor present throughout the story.
You were so invested that you jumped when your phone began to loudly buzz on the coffee table. You paused the movie and leaned forward to glance at the screen that had just turned on with a notification, sighing tiredly when you saw the name on it.
You picked up your phone and clicked on the message.
Just got back to the hotel. Long day. I’ll be up for a bit though. Call me if you want.
You pressed your lips together, thinking it over for a moment. You still hadn’t spoken to Jensen since your terse call earlier and you had cowardly kept your phone off for the rest of the day. Which meant that when you turned it back on the minute you walked back in your door, you had several voicemail messages (two were from him) and quite a few text messages (most were from him) suddenly blowing up the device. Everything from justified disbelief to annoyance to explanations to apologies to requests for you to answer him saturated your last several text messages. You hadn’t responded to anything from him just yet; you had been waiting until you felt ready to embark on that conversation, not sure how much you wanted to delve into when you both had it. He would want to know exactly why that joke had upset you, as any other person naturally would, and you weren’t sure if you felt comfortable enough to tell him and dump some of that crazy of yours at his feet. You knew you weren’t crazy obviously, but how could you tell your best friend that his doing a part of his job (successfully you might add) bothered you? And that you got mad at him for it? What, was he supposed to change that up because it hurt your feelings or added to your discomfort with said part of his job? Now, that was crazy.
You took a deep breath, ate a few more raisins, sipped your water, and decided the hell with it. Time to face the music. You pressed the phone icon next to his name and put your bluetooth in, waiting for the call to connect as you braced yourself for any justified irritation you might encounter. You were going to rip the band-aid off and apologize; he deserved nothing less from you after you had avoided him all day.
“Hey,” his voice greeted you warmly, something you hadn’t been expecting. It completely disarmed you, especially when you could hear the exhaustion lacing his tone.
“Hey.”
“You ready to talk now?”
You hadn’t really been truly ready about a moment ago even though you were going to push through it. But now, hearing the tired voice of your best friend after a long day of not being able to talk to him because you felt like you couldn’t — yes, you were. “Um, yeah.”
“Good.” You could hear him shifting in the background, letting out a weary sigh as he presumably settled wherever he had moved to. “Are you going to tell me why?”
You bit at your lip. “I just didn’t care for it, I guess.” You then dropped your head into your hands. Oh God, you did sound crazy.
“Oh-kay. Was it the word choice? Because I only—”
“No. No, it…” You expelled your own sigh, frustrated with yourself. “It had nothing to do with any of that.”
“Then what did it have to do with?”
You chewed at your thumbnail, not really wanting to tell him since you would sound even worse than you already did.
“Y/N,” he prompted. “What pissed you off about it?”
You dropped your hand to your lap and shook your head. Fuck it. “I just hate the forced performativity sometimes, okay? I get it, it’s part of your job, and I need to just shut up and stay in my lane. But you’re my best friend, I care about you, and sometimes I really, really dislike watching or hearing that side of you. Which is exactly why I choose not to engage with that world you’re in. Because to me, no matter how good you are at your job, and you’re incredible at it obviously, that performative bullshit isn’t you. Not the you I’ve gotten to know, anyway, and certainly not at that level. Like, sure, you try to make people laugh all the time and crack jokes, and I know you were probably a little nervous being on that panel so you had to break the ice somehow, I get it, but Jesus, Jensen. I just…” You let out another sigh and pinched the bridge of your nose, clenching your eyes shut. “I’m just not a fan of when you have to tap into that. I feel like sometimes you say things for the audience’s sake that just make me cringe sometimes and that I just can’t get behind. And that pisses me off because I want to support you but when you say shit like that, like some of the soundbites you’ve had these past few months, I just can’t. And I hate that, because I know that’s not you . And I absolutely fucking hate how judgmental I know I’m being right now but I can’t help how I feel. So that is what pissed me off about that stupid, insensitive, frat boy-ish, sexist, and quite frankly ageist joke, okay?”
A deafening silence filled the conversation then and you mentally cursed at yourself. Great. Well, this might be the end of your friendship and where you two parted ways. While the idea of it broke your heart, you couldn’t really blame him. You had just unleashed an incoherent rant of a word salad that anyone might take a second look at the concept of continuing a friendship with you for. You had called him to apologizehow had you gone this far off the intended track?
“Okay.”
Your eyes snapped open. “Okay?”
“Y/N,” he started gently, sounding like some guy on a nature documentary or something who was trying to soothe a wild animal into not seeing him as a threat. “It was meant to be a joke for the character. Just something to make people laugh while staying in character.”
“I know that. I get it, but—”
“There’s nothing more to it than that for me. We were promoting the prequel, promoting the last season, they even had me sit next to Ant since we’re going to dive deep into the whole Soldier Boy and Homelander dynamic when production picks back up. That’s all it was.”
Guilt and shame started to gnaw at you. He had explained these things to you, back when you were getting to know him, and he took you through the ins and outs of his job — even the things the public didn’t see or know about too much.
As for the other stuff, I have to be honest, I’m not really sure what to say. I know you’re not crazy about any of it. I’ve known that for a while now. Every time you turn me down when I ask you to come to one of these things, always with the excuse of work or having to go to court. I didn’t push you on it because I figured maybe someday you’d be comfortable enough to say yes and let me show you how it all works. I get what you’re saying, I do…but, it’s my job, sweetheart.”
The term of endearment brought you up short and then made you feel even worse. It’s not that he hadn’t used it before, but something about the sad resignation that coated his voice right then caught your attention. What did he feel resigned to? “I know,” you whispered. “And I’m sorry.”
“Me, too.” His voice sounded a little thicker than before that had your brows knitting together. If you didn’t know any better, he sounded slightly upset. Perhaps this had definitely been a step too far and he was now going to give you the boot. Or perhaps it was something else…something else he hadn’t told you yet that was bothering him and that’s why he had wanted to talk to you today when he asked yesterday what the best time to call you was. Oh shit.
“Jensen?”
“Hmm?”
“Are you okay?”
He cleared his throat and you could hear him moving again, presumably sitting up. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m okay. Are you?”
You let out a quiet breath of relief when he sounded better than he had a moment ago. “Yeah.” You let a moment pass before you asked, ”You sure?”
“Yep.”
“Okay.”
Another minute of silence happened, slightly less tense than before but a little more awkward. Like neither of you knew where to go from here and you both were waiting for the other to break it to give you some sort of direction.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“Is that it?” His voice broke at the end of his question but he cleared his throat once more. “Are we…done?”
It suddenly hit you what he was really asking, why he sounded so resigned earlier. Your heart broke a little more at the realization and you silently cursed yourself again. Instinctually, you knew exactly what to say to lead you both out of this pool of uncertainty you had unwittingly pushed you both into. You let out an amused snort. “Dude, you saddled me with an angry poltergeist that cost me a small fortune in repairs and I didn’t show you the door then. What makes you think I would now just because you were doing your job?”
Another moment of quiet passed and you started to worry that you had ruined everything when he finally responded with, “I can’t believe you’re still going on about that. And I offered to pay for those repairs even though we both know ghosts don’t really exist.”
Your lips relaxed into a relieved smile. “Says the ghost magnet who knows they do exist.”
“Oh my God,” he muttered into the phone. “How is it that a successful lawyer like yourself still believes in that crap?”
“Probably because said crap destroyed my house while I had to stay in a hotel for two weeks. And how is it that a guy who played a ghost hunter for fifteen years, who dropped a very real ghost on my doorstep and saw the damage it did live on facetime still doesn’t believe in that crap?”
“Because they don’t exist.”
“They do.”
“They don’t.”
“They do and you know it. Otherwise, you wouldn’t let me smudge you every time you drop by.”
“I only let you do that because it makes you happy and this way I only have to hear ten times that night how I supposedly brought a temperamental ghost the last time I walked in without being cleansed , compared to the usual fifty if I don’t.”
“Oooh, buddy, guess what you’re getting for Christmas this year,” you teased. “I’m placing the order online right now.”
“Christ,” he mumbled. “Don’t you dare or you know what I’ll be sending you in return.”
“You better not. I’ll hand deliver it to your doorstep and let your ghost friends have fun with it and you.” You weren’t really going to mass order sage and send it to him like you had threatened a few times before which had prompted him to threaten to send you several ouija boards in retaliation. Your friendship was a strange one sometimes, you’d be the first to admit it, but truthfully, you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thinking about that, your smile faded and you pressed your lips together. “Jensen?”
“Mmm?”
“I really am sorry.” You truly were. You felt badly for even getting pissed at him in the first place. You still weren’t entirely sure why seeing him like that bothered you so much, despite already knowing the performativity was part of his job. It didn’t change the Jensen you knew and when he was on , it didn’t affect you. So why would it disturb you that deeply? You refused to look at it any closer, though; you had done enough living in your head for one day. And right now, you wanted to make things right with your best friend.
“It’s okay.” From the way he said it, you knew he was telling the truth. “But can you promise me one thing?”
“Yeah,” you whispered.
“Can you just…talk to me next time and not ice me out like you did? I was wracking my brains all day trying to figure out why that joke would bother you enough for you to clam up and push me away like you did. You’ve never done that before, no matter how pissed off I made you or whatever arguments we’ve had, and I just— I need for you to talk to me when that happens. No matter how pissed you are. I know that you need your space sometimes, I do too, but…don’t shut me out. Not like that. Okay?”
“Okay,” you choked out, clearing your throat and scrubbing a tear from your cheeks. You were definitely not on the verge of crying. Not at all.
“We’re still going to talk about the job thing but I’d rather do that in person if you don’t mind,” he murmured. “I don’t really want to have that conversation over the phone.”
“Okay,” you repeated.
After a moment he asked, “So, what are you up to right now?”
You wiped away another tear that was absolutely not rolling down your cheek. “Um, just watching a movie.”
“Oh yeah? What movie?”
“Uh, Anyone But You? The new Glen Powell movie on Netflix?”
“Glen Powell,” he scoffed, making you smile when you heard his tell-tale annoyance at the mention of your current celebrity crush. While you both loved the Top Gun movies, something you had in common, he had finally figured out why you wanted to watch the sequel more times than the original. He would literally grumble and wear his grumpy Dean expression, much like you imagined he was now. Sure enough, he grumbled, “What do you see in that guy?”
You couldn’t help but huff out a chuckle. “Everything you don’t.” You stared at the image on the screen of a shirtless, wet Glen that you had paused on. “Like lots and lots of muscles,” you answered honestly as you eyed the fine looking man on your television. You were biting your lip again but this time for a whole other reason.
“Muscles,” he muttered.
“And the most gorgeous green eyes you’ve ever seen,” you added.
“Seriously?”
“And a killer smile. Plus, he’s from Texas, did you know that? Austin, your old neck of the woods.” You knew he knew all of this but you couldn’t resist needling him a little. His reactions were always amusing as hell.
“Oh yeah, I know,” he said in a mocking tone that betrayed that he was less than thrilled at your listing off of Glen’s attributes.
“You know, maybe I should take you up on your offer to go to one of these public events if he’s also going to be there.”
“ That’s why you would finally say yes?”
“Among other things,” you teased.
“If I find out he’s going to be there, I’m not inviting you.”
“Jensen!”
“I’m just kidding…maybe.”
“You better be,” you growled.
“Yeah, yeah. Glen Powell,” he muttered again, making you smirk. “Lots and lots of muscles, green eyes, killer smile, from Texas…” An aggravated sigh came down the line. “Fine. What part of the movie are you on?”
“No, you have to watch it from the beginning. I’ll watch with you.” You eagerly clicked out of the movie and went back to its menu.
“So you can see more of Glen’s fine muscles?”
“It’s about the definition, not the bulk.”
“Uh huh.” He faked a gagging sound, making you chuckle. “You’re lucky I care about your happiness, Y/N. That’s the only reason I’m even indulging in this ogle fest masquerading as a chick flick.”
“Hey, it’s not a chick flick and Sydney Sweeney is in it, too, so don’t act like this great selfless sacrifice you’re making is going to be hellish torture for you.”
“Sydney Sweeney? Now, why didn’t you start out with that? Hell yes, we’re watching this movie. Let’s go.”
You rolled your eyes, shaking your head and smiling. Typical. “You ready?”
“Not sure how long I’m going to last before it puts me to sleep, but yeah, ready when you are.”
“Okay.” You pressed the start button and saw the familiar production logos pop up.
A moment later you heard, “Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m really glad you called.”
You couldn’t help but smile as you laid your head down on your couch pillow. “Me, too.” And you were. Regardless of anything else, no matter your disagreements past or present, first and foremost he was your best friend. As he began to tease you when Glen first appeared on screen, you couldn’t help but smile; in the end, that was all that mattered.
Disclaimer: No disrespect is meant to Jensen, Danneel, or their family. I don’t know either of them or anyone connected to or associated with them. I merely take things from interviews, con videos, podcasts, and his public persona to create the “Jensen” seen here. This is purely for creativity and entertainment purposes. Just for fun.

Going to draw attention to this part of the panel where Jensen and Misha spend five minutes just talking about all the great guest stars and recurring actors they've had on the show, how great the characters are, and how the cast is not only talented but there was a really high amount of good people they love hanging out with. Both Jensen and Misha spoke enthusiastically about that, but Jensen in particular here again spoke very eloquently and warmly about the extended cast, as he has repeatedly before now. It's unfortunately necessary to highlight this about Jensen given certain standom narratives some insist on that don't at all reflect Jensen's full actual views, his love and respect for the whole cast, and his artist eye view of appreciation for what those characters and actors brought to the story.
Queued up to the start of the segment

OKC was not my best con and I was definitely struggling with anxiety from chaotic changes in schedule and my worst enemy, "comparison is the thief of joy." But there were still a few cute ops out of it.
Squish with Alaina and Jeannine in which I did know what to do with my arm.

Louden Swain, sans Mike (who was MIA for this con) in which Shanda and I made a confused Billy the star of the show.

I missed out on this op in Austin so was happy to snag one for OKC. The Radio Company panel was the absolute highlight of the con <3

Once again, I failed to look at the camera, but got a good ol' squish. And was briefly delighted that Jensen called me "sweetheart" as I was exiting... until I almost immediately heard two other people say he'd called them the same and it took all the wind out of my sails (I was having a hard time, okay).

This is one of the Cas-iest, Cas ops I've had. And Mish did this cute arm grab squeezy thing as we were separating that did actually make me feel pretty okay for a bit.

I mention I was having a hard time not for sympathy or anything but because sometimes it feels like sharing how many cons I do feels like this ideal world I'm painting, when the reality is that I'm often feeling invisible and like I'm chasing interactions that others grab with ease. I spend far too much time at cons alone, stuck in my own head, and often undermining myself in interactions. And leave each one thinking, "I'll do better next time." Sometimes I do. We'll see if I manage to do better in Novi.

Meeting Jared
Pairing: Jared Padalecki x Reader (Y/N)
Additional Characters: Emma -> Reader’s best friend, Jensen Ackles.
Summary: Reader attends her very first Supernatural convention with her best friend and gets to meet her favorite actor Jared Padalecki.
Warnings: none.
This was a request sent to me by @deanwinchestersgirl8734 ! Hope you enjoy it! Also you are soooo lucky you’re gonna meet Jared girl I’m so jealous! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
The sun shone brightly over the convention center, the warm rays casting a golden hue on the gathering crowd. It was your first Supernatural convention, and the excitement buzzed in the air, mingling with the hum of conversation and the occasional burst of laughter. Your best friend, Emma, had managed to score tickets, and both of you had been counting down the days eagerly.
Dressed in a Dean Winchester cosplay, complete with a leather jacket and a slightly scruffy look, you felt an exhilarating blend of nerves and excitement. Emma, channeling her inner Castiel, adjusted her trench coat and gave you a reassuring smile.
"We're finally here!" Emma exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. "This is going to be epic!"
You nodded, unable to suppress your grin. "I've been dreaming about this day for years."
The convention hall was a sea of Supernatural-themed booths, selling everything from T-shirts to replica weapons. Fans milled about, some dressed as their favorite characters, others just basking in the shared love for the show.
You and Emma wandered around, taking in the sights and sounds. You marveled at the intricate cosplays, posed for pictures, and picked up a few souvenirs. The schedule for the day was packed with panels, signings, and photo ops. But the highlight, the part you were most excited for, was the panel with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.
The auditorium was packed, the energy palpable as fans eagerly awaited the arrival of the stars. You and Emma found seats near the front, your hearts racing with anticipation. The lights dimmed, and a roar of applause filled the room as Jared and Jensen took the stage.
Jared's presence was magnetic. His tall frame, easy smile, and infectious energy filled the room. As he and Jensen bantered back and forth, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and answering fan questions, you felt a deep admiration for their camaraderie and genuine love for their fans.
When the Q&A session began, you hesitated, but Emma nudged you encouragingly. Summoning your courage, you raised your hand. To your shock, Jared pointed at you.
"Yes, you in the Dean cosplay," he said, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
You stood up, your heart pounding. "Hi, Jared, Jensen. First of all, thank you for everything you do. My question is, what's been the most memorable moment for you both while filming the show?"
Jared and Jensen shared a look before Jensen replied, "Honestly, there have been so many. But I'd say one of the most memorable was filming the 200th episode. It was a huge milestone for us and the entire crew."
Jared nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that was definitely up there. But for me, it's the fans. Every convention, every encounter, reminds me how special this show is because of all of you."
The audience erupted in applause, and you felt a surge of warmth and connection. This was more than just a show; it was a community.
After the panel, you and Emma decided to explore more of the convention. As you were browsing through a booth selling Supernatural-themed jewelry, you felt a tap on your shoulder. Turning around, you were met with the sight of Jared Padalecki himself.
"Hey," he said with a grin. "I just wanted to thank you for your question earlier. It really got me thinking."
You blinked, momentarily speechless. "Thank you, Jared. That means a lot."
Emma, ever the supportive friend, nudged you subtly. "We're huge fans," she said, her voice filled with enthusiasm. "This is our first convention."
Jared's smile widened. "Well, I'm glad I could be a part of it. You both look fantastic, by the way. Love the cosplays."
Your cheeks flushed with pride. "Thanks! We put a lot of effort into them."
He chatted with you both for a few more minutes, asking about your favorite episodes and characters. The conversation flowed naturally, and you felt an incredible sense of ease talking to him. Before he left, he handed you a small card.
"There's an after-party tonight for some of the fans. I'd love it if you both could come. Just show this at the door."
You stared at the card, hardly believing your luck. "Thank you so much, Jared. We’ll definitely be there."
As he walked away, Emma squealed in delight. "This day just keeps getting better!"
The after-party was held in a nearby hotel ballroom, transformed into a Supernatural-themed wonderland. The lighting was low, casting an intimate glow over the room filled with fans, cosplayers, and a few of the show's cast and crew.
You and Emma entered, flashing the card Jared had given you. The security guard nodded and let you through. The atmosphere was lively, with people dancing, chatting, and enjoying the themed drinks and snacks.
You spotted Jared near the bar, talking with some fans. He saw you and waved you over. "You made it!"
"We wouldn't miss it," you said, trying to keep your cool.
Emma nudged you playfully. "We still can't believe this is happening."
Jared chuckled. "Well, believe it. You both deserve it. Now, how about a drink?"
The night continued with laughter, conversation, and a few rounds of drinks. Jared introduced you to some of the other cast members, and you found yourself in awe of how down-to-earth and friendly everyone was.
As the party wound down, Jared pulled you aside. "It was great meeting you both today. I hope you had an unforgettable time."
You smiled, feeling a mix of gratitude and disbelief. "This has been beyond anything we could have imagined. Thank you, Jared."
He gave you a warm hug. "Take care, and keep being awesome fans."
As you and Emma left the party, you felt a sense of euphoria. The convention had been everything you dreamed of and more. Meeting Jared Padalecki was the cherry on top, an experience you would cherish forever.
Emma wrapped an arm around your shoulders. "Best. Day. Ever."
You nodded in agreement, a content smile on your face. "Absolutely."

CHICON 2008 Request (and a tiny sample!)
This is a shot in the dark, but I thought I’d ask. Does anyone have a video of any quality, good or bad, that covers the below portions of the CHICON 2008 panels? I have videos for the vast majority of it, but there are a few small gaps annoying me and I'd love to fill them in. If you have something you’d be willing to let me use in my next set of enhanced con videos, please let me know. I would of course give you credit if I use them! Or anonymity if that's what you prefer. Even an audio file could be useful.
If you don't have anything but you're willing to reblog to increase visibility, that would be awesome too. I haven't had any success the few times I've tried to directly contact fans who were posting content back in these early days, so I don't think many are still out there, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.
Gap #1: The beginning of Jared’s solo panel, before he starts telling the story about his dogs sleeping with Jensen. I managed to find a very low-quality 30-second video near the beginning where he talks about the fan video that played, but it cuts off. The better-quality videos start just before Jared tells the dog story.
Gap #2: After the J2 panel, immediately after Jared finishes signing the posters and leaves the stage. The videos show Jensen clapping for Jared as he exits, but they cut off mid-clap. The next video picks up post-clap with Jensen saying, “Maybe we should wait ‘til he’s out of the room.” I think there are only a few seconds missing, not really enough to be annoyed by, but... 🤷♀️
Gap #3: At the very end of Jensen’s solo panel, as he’s getting ready to leave, he thanks the fans and talks about how many more viewers they've had that season. The last video cuts off before he finishes talking.
Other than that, I have a complete span of content for all three of their panels. It adds up to about 1.5 hours that will be split into 3 videos. I think the gaps are all short. I read through some fan reports and I didn’t see anything mentioned that wasn’t covered in the videos I have, so we're probably not missing anything big.
I'm only just starting the editing process on this set. so it will be a while before I have a new video to release. In case you missed it, I did publish the CHICON 2008 breakfast video earlier this week. Meanwhile, I’ll leave you with this tiny sample of one of the things I’ve wanted to do so many times while watching con videos.
I always go slightly bonkers when Jared and Jensen go off in separate directions on stage, because the camera can’t possibly follow both of them. I usually end up pulling up all the videos and trying to find one that follows each of them so I can flip back and forth between them. 🤣 Now I have the power to take two separate videos and show them simultaneously. This silly thing makes me very happy.
Context: this was at the end of the J2 panel. Jensen made a show of removing Jared's chair, and then Jared took Jensen's chair and replaced it with a smaller chair. It will be more coherent when you see the full video; I mainly wanted to highlight the split screen parts for this post.

Ayyy sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but do you happen to have or know of a post or some kind of rundown that kind of gives the highlights of what's happened with Cockles/Misha/Jensen/Destiel at the cons recently? I've stopped going on Twitter, which was my main source of fandom news. So I've been disconnected for a while, and I desperately need to know what's been happening lol. I love seeing everyone freaking out about stuff, but I have no context 😂
Hi! There isn’t one single vid out there, people posted some snippets from the panel over on twitter. The main discussed thing was Jensen again telling the story about how he met Misha on the set and thought he was a freak and how he has grown to respect and love him. Here’s the vid of that I stitched together from twitter vids. Misha also took a pic of Jensen with a pack of skittles (bc of the whole diddle a skittle thing) and as per tradition they were holding up the queue in photo ops bc they wanted to talk to each other instead 😅 That’s the run down for ya! So the usual jenmish shenanigans!

Recently, there was a video of the main J2 panel in Indianapolis (https://youtu.be/VWS4URkl-sg?si=nf8C7scfim0Jyx8o - 25:50-31:42) and someone asked J2 a question about sending highlight reels for acting roles, which they laughed at and said they don't really do that anymore. Both commented that their time in the industry and lasting connections they've made have allowed them to share relevant clips related to a specified role they want, get straight to meetings to discuss if they're a good fit for the script and role, etc. Jared mentions he's sent clips of when he was younger for more heroic roles. Jensen specifically details stuff like having experience with the showrunner and lead for Tracker, going on a Zoom meeting for when he was gonna be on Rust, and how his role for The Boys was the most intensive one to try out for. I wanted to know your thoughts on what both of them were saying, but also would like to know if the lasting connections made on the set of Supernatural (or other sets) are maybe the only advantage Jensen has when it comes to obtaining his current roles without more effort.
Also, this is related but unrelated, Jensen mentions ten minutes before that he's busy and excited with his new roles, trying to be a dad, and also mentioned that Chaos Productions has something in the works, but I felt like him talking about his own work had more enthusiasm than him talking about his family or his company.
It used to be that all actors required a reel to submit (by agent) or self submit. These days due to digital, there’s been a shift towards clips that are on brand. For example, if you are a leading lady you need to identify your main types( roles you’re most likely to get cast for) and record shot clips of such roles. You might do one where you are in procedural show, a comic one, one where you are the teacher or sister( because those are a part of your types) and then once a role pops us where the breakdown of the character matches that essence (e.g Fiesty Medic) then your agent will send the relevant clip directly to casting to show them you can indeed do fiesty and medical. This goes for any type of character. Basically casting requires hard proof you can do *that* specific character well and cares less about your reel overall. Of course, this doesn’t mean reels are obsolete, they are still a great marketing tool for actors, it’s just that once you reach a certain tier or when you have little experience, clips will serve you much more. They can get you in the room and on your way towards being booked. So, if you are an actor, I highly recommend identifying your main castable types and then creating on brand clips of scenes that match those types. Your agent will thank you for it and you could even post those online and get even more visibility.
As for headshots, sorry to break it to Jensen and Jared but they are still the actor’s calling card, no matter what tier you are at. They aren’t A listers so they won’t be shortlisted for a lot of roles, they need good headshots. It does help.
As for Jensen, it all depends on his team, he is pretty clueless about his own industry and so far has only been able to land roles thanks to networking. I hope his team pitches him to the right people outside of his SPN circle. Countdown might give him more visibility, if it goes well, and so might the SB spin off.
he’s always going to be more excited about work because that’s where his core value lies. We are each different and our core vary, one of Jensen’s core values is definitely having work as an actor.
As for what they both said, my fear is they are relying too much on their current status instead of being proactive, which is what any actor should be at any tier, especially if they plan on becoming A List. Marketing materials for actors are highly important, don’t just rely on your agent finding and sending a YouTube clip. You can do so much more.
Thank you for this beautiful question. 🧡

We’re thinking of bringing the cast of #Smallville together for a super reunion weekend! Which Metropolis should our caped crusaders and supervillains come to? A. New Jersey B. Orlando C. Chicago Let us know what city you’d love to see them in!
Interesting... I wonder if 2023 showed them that Smallville was kinda worth the cost (vs casts like TW which don't seem to have been)? With SPN cons dwindling, I wonder if instead of trying to make SPN cons into J2 and friends or whatever they were trying, they are going to do this instead - see how Smallville does on its own? For one thing, the J2 and friends thing doesn't work because Jared isn't going to many anymore so it would be Jensen and friends... But this way they can still invite Jensen to the Smallville cons even if they end up cutting back on SPN cons in 2025. So basically if they cut back on SPN but add some Smallville, they can pretty much keep Jensen's con appearances to what he wants them to be (~12 CE cons a year) while still cutting back on no longer cost effective SPN cons.
Obviously this is all just speculation, but I thought it was interesting. They were clearly testing which actors (outside of SPN) would work to add going forward and it sounds like Smallville worked. But to me the most interesting part is them trying to break Smallville off into its own thing instead of trying to continue to merge it with the SPN cons like they claimed was their plan going forward. Either they think its more profitable on its own, or they are pre-emptively preparing for SPN cons to dwindle in the coming years and are trying to set up other avenues to continue getting income but also to keep Jensen with them for longer (they are already struggling without Jared, if they lose Jensen too that would be very bad for them).
Hmm... so they tested them out on the SPN tour and now CE's testing a Smallville con? You know, good for them. You're right, at least they're attempting to branch out. I don't know if it will be successful, but it's apparent they needed to do something besides banking on Vampire Diaries and SPN as their bread and butter.
The scenario you present of having Jensen go to Smallville cons is very interesting. Obviously, he's connected to the show, so it would be an option. Question is, could he put aside being the main headliner? Could CE even pay him as an extra headliner if they're already paying the Smallville leads? And if Smallville ends up being successful, while SPN is dropping off, would Creation just join the two (or even three with VD) and just do creatively-named CW cons with each show being highlighted on a specific day? I suppose there might be issues with the stars wanting the best day/panel times, but it might be where these conventions are heading in the future.
And all it takes is Jared saying he's no longer exclusive with CE. (Yeah, if Jensen dropped out, it would also signal the death of SPN cons, but Jared was the one that started the ball rolling, lol!)

Her Surprise (Revised Edition for 2025)
Chapter Five: Until the Applause Fades
I didn’t remember walking off the karaoke stage. My brain had shut down the second Jensen Ackles’ voice joined mine on the chorus, his hand brushing against mine like a passing current. The lights, the music, the cheering—it all faded into static.
Now I stood backstage, the echo of the applause still rattling through my bones. Ari stared at me, wide-eyed and grinning, while I blinked like someone had hit the pause button on my life.
"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice a little breathless. "You just sang with Jensen Ackles. That happened."
"Did it?" I murmured, still half in shock. "Because I think I blacked out somewhere between the first verse and him joining in."
"Nope. You stayed standing. You sounded amazing. And he smiled at you like he was impressed."
Before I could reply, Jensen walked by on his way back to the green room, offering a nod and a quick smile. "Great voice out there. Thanks for letting me crash your moment."
I think I managed to say, "Anytime," but it was probably closer to a squeak. And just like that, he was gone again.
Ari nudged me hard in the ribs. "You okay? Breathing? Heart still in your chest?"
"Not sure," I admitted. "I think I need to sit. Or lie down. Or relive that moment another thousand times."
Back in our hotel room, I paced the carpet in a daze. Every second of that performance kept playing in my mind on a loop. The lyrics. The lights. The way his voice blended with mine. How he smiled at me before the final chorus. But I kept telling myself—
This doesn’t mean anything. Not like that.
Jensen was just being nice. Supportive. He always interacted kindly with fans. That was his job.
And I wasn’t naive. I knew better than to spin a fleeting moment into a fairytale.
Ari flopped down on her bed, scrolling through her phone.
"It’s all over Twitter already. You guys are trending," she said, raising an eyebrow. "Hashtag #JensenDuet."
My stomach twisted. "Is it good or bad trending?"
She didn’t answer right away.
"Ari?"
She exhaled, then turned her phone around.
It wasn’t the worst. But it wasn’t all good either. Most people loved the moment. But some comments hit harder than I expected:
*"That was cute, but why did he pick her?"
*"Bold move singing with a fan like that. Props."
*"Girl's got pipes, but the look… hmm."
I sat down slowly on the edge of the bed, my hands curling into fists on my thighs.
"Don’t let it get to you," Ari said softly. "The people being jerks are just projecting. The rest? They're jealous. You were amazing."
"I know," I said automatically. But it didn't mean I felt it.
The next morning, I woke up feeling the aftermath of the adrenaline rush. My head buzzed. My heart still beat a little too fast every time I thought of the song.
Jensen hadn’t messaged or sent a note, and I didn’t expect him to. He was a celebrity. I was a fan. The lines were drawn.
Still, as Ari and I got ready for the day, I couldn’t stop thinking about how real it had felt for those few minutes on stage. And how hard it was to accept that moments like that were just… moments.
"You okay?" Ari asked as she tied her hair into a high ponytail. "You’ve been quiet."
"Yeah. Just… sorting my brain."
"You sure? Because if I see another tweet about your outfit instead of your voice, I’m throwing someone into a trash can."
I smiled faintly. "Appreciate the loyalty."
She came over and bumped my shoulder with hers. "You don’t need his attention to validate your worth. But if he does come over today, just be you. That’s all you need to be."
We grabbed coffee in the hotel lobby, and sure enough, Jensen passed through on his way to a photo op. He paused when he saw us.
"Hey! Morning. You guys headed to panels?"
We nodded. I was too surprised to speak right away.
"Good," he said with a small grin. "Have fun today. And thanks again for the duet. It was the highlight of my night."
He gave a small wave before heading toward the signing tables.
When he was out of earshot, Ari grabbed my elbow.
"See? He remembered. He meant it."
I didn’t answer right away. But deep down, I knew she was right.
Maybe he didn’t fall for me. Maybe there wasn’t a spark that would lead to some fairytale romance.
But maybe—just maybe—he saw me. Just for a moment.
And that was enough.

NVIDIA CEO Predicts AI-Driven Future for Electric Grid
Introduction:
In a talk at the Edison Electric Institute, NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, shared his vision for the transformative impact of generative AI on the future of electric utilities. The ongoing industrial revolution, powered by AI and accelerated computing, is set to revolutionize the way utilities operate and interact with their customers.
NVIDIA CEO on the Future of AI and Energy
Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of NVIDIA, highlighted the critical role of electric grids and utilities in the next industrial revolution driven by AI. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), Huang emphasized how AI will significantly enhance the energy sector.
“The future of digital intelligence is quite bright, and so the future of the energy sector is bright, too,” Huang remarked. Addressing an audience of over a thousand utility and energy industry executives, he explained how AI will be pivotal in improving the delivery of energy.
AI-Powered Productivity Boost
Like many industries, utilities will leverage AI to boost employee productivity. However, the most significant impact will be in the delivery of energy over the grid. Huang discussed how AI-powered smart meters could enable customers to sell excess electricity to their neighbors, transforming power grids into smart networks akin to digital platforms like Google.
“You will connect resources and users, just like Google, so your power grid becomes a smart network with a digital layer like an app store for energy,” he said, predicting unprecedented levels of productivity driven by AI.
AI Lights Up Electric Grids
Today’s electric grids are primarily one-way systems linking large power plants to numerous users. However, they are evolving into two-way, flexible networks that integrate solar and wind farms with homes and buildings equipped with solar panels, batteries, and electric vehicle chargers. This transformation requires autonomous control systems capable of real-time data processing and analysis, a task well-suited to AI and accelerated computing.
AI and Accelerated Computing for Electric Grids
AI applications across electric grids are growing, supported by a broad ecosystem of companies utilizing NVIDIA’s technologies. In a recent GTC session, Hubbell and Utilidata, a member of the NVIDIA Inception program, showcased a new generation of smart meters using the NVIDIA Jetson platform. These meters will process and analyze real-time grid data using AI models at the edge. Deloitte also announced its support for this initiative.
In another GTC session, Siemens Energy discussed its work with AI and NVIDIA Omniverse to create digital twins of transformers in substations, enhancing predictive maintenance and boosting grid resilience. Additionally, Siemens Gamesa used Omniverse and accelerated computing to optimize turbine placements for a large wind farm.
Maria Pope, CEO of Portland General Electric, praised these advancements: “Deploying AI and advanced computing technologies developed by NVIDIA enables faster and better grid modernization and we, in turn, can deliver for our customers.”
NVIDIA’s Breakthroughs in Energy Efficiency
NVIDIA is significantly reducing the costs and energy required to deploy AI. Over the past eight years, the company has increased the energy efficiency of running AI inference on large language models by an astounding 45,000 times, as highlighted in Huang’s recent keynote at COMPUTEX.
The new NVIDIA Blackwell architecture GPUs offer 20 times greater energy efficiency than CPUs for AI and high-performance computing. Transitioning all CPU servers to GPUs for these tasks could save 37 terawatt-hours annually, equivalent to the electricity use of 5 million homes and a reduction of 25 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
NVIDIA-powered systems dominated the latest Green500 ranking of the world’s most energy-efficient supercomputers, securing the top six spots and seven of the top ten.
Government Support for AI Adoption
A recent report urges governments to accelerate AI adoption as a crucial tool for driving energy efficiency across various industries. It highlighted several examples of utilities using AI to enhance the efficiency of the electric grid.
Exeton’s Perspective on AI and Electric Grids
At Exeton, we are committed to leveraging AI and advanced computing to drive innovation in the energy sector. Our cutting-edge solutions are designed to enhance grid efficiency, boost productivity, and reduce environmental impact.
www.exeton.com

An amazing experience at the Nordic Igem Conference

The Aalto Helsinki Igem Team have recently participated in the annual Nordic conference, hosted by the Southern Denmark University (SDU) at Odense, Denmark, from the 28th to 30th of July, 2023. The team has returned to Helsinki from the conference carrying with them some amazing memories, resourceful connections and an extensive learning curve.
We had the opportunity to engage with other teams, gaining valuable insights into their projects and the challenges they faced. We also connected with them on LinkedIn or other social media platforms and explored potential collaborations. For example, the Stockholm team’s interest in testing our biomass with their sensors for microplastics was a thrilling prospect.
We also learned a lot from the alumni panel, the judges’ feedback, and the presentation tips from Christian Eiming, who emphasized creating a clear storyline by following the “Hollywood script formula”. We intend to take all their valuable advice to heart and improve both our wiki and our presentation skills.
The conference was a great opportunity to network, learn, and have fun. We are grateful to the SDU team for organizing such a wonderful event and to all the teams for their inspiring projects and collaborative spirit. We look forward to facing upcoming challenges with newfound knowledge and stronger connections, aiming for a remarkable iGEM success.
What did we learn?
At the Nordic conference, we gained valuable insights on improving our Wiki and presentation skills.
Thøger Jensen Krogh, an iGEM alumni and now iGEM mentor with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Bioinformatics, emphasized writing the Wiki text early on and refining it later to ensure a clear and concise representation of our work. We intend to follow this advice and write everything down as a rough draft instead of allowing perfectionist inclinations and writer’s block to get in our way. To enhance navigation, he suggested incorporating tour guides or clear drop-down menus. Overviews should be in layman’s language for accessibility, while detailed pages should use academic language for crucial project information.
The presentation tips from Christian Eiming focused on creating a clear storyline by following the “Hollywood script formula” which includes suspense and conflict to engage the audience effectively. Simple visuals and only highlighted data were recommended to keep the audience’s attention on the presenter. We intend to take all his valuable advice to heart and improve both our presentation slides and the way in which we present. We will then consult with him on our updated presentation and ask how we could further improve.
Towards the end of the conference all the teams presented their projects in front of a judging panel. Feedback from the judges highlighted the need to envision our end product more clearly for the audience. Then the Alumni panel shared their iGEM experiences, emphasizing the importance of building team spirit, setting achievable milestones, and celebrating small victories. They also mentioned valuable skills like maintaining a "keep pushing” mentality, taking on responsibility, effective delegation, and setting realistic work goals. These lessons will guide us in enhancing our project’s human practices and overall success.
We also congratulate the ABOA team for winning the golden pipette for their amazing presentation. It was an extensive learning curve watching the amazing presentations from the 9 brilliant teams.

Jensen Ackles Solo Panel | JIBCon 2023 (June 17, 2023)

(NuttyForAckles)
Jensen was headbanging to Smells Like Teen Spirit with Jason, then mentioned that he has that "writer‘s strike hair flow". (x)
jensen will be at the monday concert (x)
‘Take the guitar away, I’ll just sing on Monday!’ (x)
Monday‘s band will be called "No Rob". (x)
Jensen has always wanted to go to Brazil. But when he finally got there, they had so much work to do that he had to stay in the hotel and he never left. He didn’t get to meet locals or see anything. In his mind he hasn’t been there yet. (x)
His prep for Beau Arlen & Ben? Since he didn’t have the history he had with Dean, he had to dig into personal feelings. (x)
Jensen has a major short term memory to learn lines but his long term memory isn’t as good. He has intense scenes and then purges the feelings. (x)
As Beau, he took what he’d feel if the things were happening to his daughter and then tailored it a bit. A lot of Dean was him. As Soldier Boy, for the scene with Butcher about his dad, he dove into Dean and John, because he has a good relationship with his dad. (x)
And in the end he just pretended. Some people can do it and some can’t. Some can paint, some can write, some can do Math. He can’t draw a stick figure, but he can *play* (x)
Dean and Soldier Boy were both just looking for their father’s approval. Jensen jokes that he wondered if he was being type cast. Ben had an opportunity to make it better with his son & grandson, but in the end he reverted back to his DNA. (x)
jensen said that for emotional scene he filmed for soldier boy (about soldier boy's father) he leaned into dean's relationship with john (because jensen has good rs with his own father) (x) he joked about getting type casted for characters with basically daddy issues (x)
Jensen and Jared have both been invited to Hot Ones and wanted to do it years ago, but they couldn’t work it out. And now they have stars so big, he probably won’t get invited anymore. (x)
someone asked about the rumors about batman and jensen was like “i don’t know” “even i know about it i’m not telling you” and he started laugh. (x)
What about being in a top 3 list to play Batman? He doesn’t know, but even if he would know, he wouldn’t tell us. Could he do it? Sure. Does he want to? Yes. (x)
‘When I’m Batman, does my voice have to be… much different?’ (x)
Musical interruption. Jensen is confused and wants to keep answering questions. (x)
The music indicated that he had to spin the wheel. It lands on “drink” and he hugs the wheel, “it’s like it knows me”. He doesn’t actually pour one though but goes back to answering. (x)

(NuttyForAckles)
There were many scenes surrounding the Impala where Jensen had to become Dean and he’d yell at the team when they were driving it or when Jared banged against the car or fart in it. “Not on the seat, she’s been through enough.” So he knew he had to own the car. (x)
One of his old friends got offered Eric Brady on DooL and he called Jensen before accepting. Jensen said “great, knock it out of the park.” (x)
Apparently Mr Rhodes, his first job, was a multicamera sitcom. It was the best schedule he’s been on so far. Soap Opera is next because they have 40+ actors. They will shoot all 80 pages his character has consecutively, shoot an hour or two. They produce one episode in 1hr (x)
You start by 9 am and get a few short breaks, end of the day, 7:30 pm, 80 pages done and he can go home. Daytime actors don’t get enough credit for having to jam in so much story in a short time. On The Boys they get 15 days for 1 episode. (8 on SPN). (x)
One of the actresses on DooL told him first day „hit your mark, say your lines, stay out of my light“. He said „yes ma’am“, earned her respect and she took care of him big time later. (x)
When he went to lunch with Alison Sweeney, who played his evil twin sister, she got heckled and Jensen defended her immediately. She told him to stop because if people hate her, that means she‘s doing her job. (x)
Rich tells us that Jensen is a sitcom and he has his own catchphrase. He plays Jensen entering the set at morning or any room late. "What are we doing?" He has developed a special greeting with Richard out of it. (x)

(NuttyForAckles)
Jensen spend several birthdays in Brad Creasser‘s house, with his wife cooking him dinner. He‘s a good friend of Richard‘s too. Rich acts out a scene on set one day and Jensen is in tears. (x)
When Jensen walked on set of Big Sky, he also went "What are we doing?" Nobody answered, so he repeated it louder. (x)

an addition to this post, as there is clearly so much more to unpack:
- in light of recent events, every j2 interaction from over the last year suddenly starts to hit different (e.g. the disastrous creation con panel)
- PR advisors inevitably descend, and j2 craft poorly written apologies that only highlight the growing rift between them
- an excess of bumpy road analogies appear on twitter
- the already strained mental health of the spn fandom starts to crack, with many people leaving for good
- jensen’s aunt goes rogue on twitter
- 24 hours on and spn tumblr is trying to reconcile genuine sympathy for jensen with the delirious highs evoked by the truly unprecedented levels of drama
- kripke tweets something that's probably meant to placate everyone but instead just further emphasises the rift between jensen and jared
- kripke hastily deletes his tweets and probably regrets every creating the cw show supernatural
- jared, without any sense of irony, implores people not to send hate on twitter. this receives an (understandably) mixed reception
- spn maintains its political reputation, as trump's former legal advisor comes out in support of jared
- somewhere in the us, a publishing intern is suddenly bombarded with lies about the author of an upcoming poetry collection, as, in an impressively horrible move, jared stans decide the way to solve everything is to send abuse about misha collins to his publisher
- non spn blogs start to become genuinely concerned by the fact half of tumblr is still a blazing furnace of destruction
- j2 stans continue to dig themselves even deeper into denial, claiming the entire twitter feud was simply a PR stunt
- misha collins makes a brief appearance as the voice of reason, and then sensibly sees himself out again
- some fans start to come round to the idea of the prequel, possibly because they've had time to consider, or possibly because, in comparison to the last 48 hours, nothing seems that bad
- just as things are starting to calm down a little, jensen uses the word "canon" in a tweet and the fandom implodes again (this time at the implication of destiel)
- jared notably still does not apologise for using shakespeare's words in vain against robbie thompson
- jensen causes yet another (admittedly, smaller) fandom meltdown by changing his twitter header
- "that's it... no more twitter today"
- despite the poorly crafted and unconvincing apologies, mainstream media won't shut up about the j2 fallout any more than tumblr will
- the schism between jared stans and hellers inevitably deepens
- somewhere in canada, jensen ackles probably has a breakdown
- misha collins does, as expected, post a nude video of himself to take the heat off jensen (*insert cockles joke here*)
- 72 hours on and peace finally seems on the horizon as, on the tumblr dash, compilations of misha collins in bathtubs start to outnumber twitter screenshots
- it seems like biden is okay (for now), but the real question is: has anyone checked on putin?
