The line that Soda can put just about anyone to sleep, implies that Ponyboy has seen Soda put multiple people to sleep. We know that for Darry it’s Soda’s back rubs, but what about everyone else.

Ponyboy, who is only able to sleep because Soda shares a bed with him. Even with all the aspirin Pony takes, it’s Soda’s arm swung sleepily across him, Soda’s mere presence, that reassures him that if he has a nightmare he won’t have to wake up alone.

Sandy, who falls asleep on Soda’s shoulder because when she leans against him he goes more still and calm than anyone would think him capable of; staring down at her mesmerized like he’s trying to freeze the moment in time, stroking her hair softly enough to remind her that there’s still gentleness in Tulsa.

Steve, who’s treated to a full body tackle when he crashes on the Curtis couch, Soda playfully refusing to move from his position as human weighted blanket until Steve gives up and goes to sleep. Soda pretends he’s doing it to annoy him, because he knows Steve would die before admitting that touch and weight soothes him, and because the best antidote to a home he gets kicked out of is a home he couldn’t escape if he tried.

Johnny, who sometimes gets skittish at physical touch, so Soda sticks to talking. He just starts rambling about whatever, his animated voice just a few subtle notes softer and lower and less excitable than usual, keeping Johnny company while taking the focus off of him; taking off all the pressure for Johnny to interact or take up any space in order to be given it, and letting him just be.

Two-Bit, whose beer Soda replaces with water at the point before sleepy drunk becomes sick drunk, when he can still get a good night’s sleep, entertaining him with jokes and stories and getting him buzzed on friendship instead of booze.

Of course, Ponyboy says Soda can put “almost anyone to sleep.” Unsurprisingly, Dally is the exception. Soda’s tried, inconspicuously watching tv when Dally crashes on the couch, but Dally just waits him out until Soda’s the one who falls asleep on the floor. Only then does Dally let himself relax, because maybe he sleeps better when someone he trusts is close by, but he would never be vulnerable enough to let himself be “put to sleep.” Which is why Soda fakes sleep, and why he never lets Dally or Pony or anyone else figure it out.

but you’re still together, it’s a healthy relationship

most of the time, you’ll actually walk him home from wherever you are since it’s safe for you to walk home on your own, but since he’s a greaser it’s not safe for him

when you met the gang they taught you how to fight in case some greasers or even some socs tried to fight you

by walking him home, you’ve actually prevented him from getting beat up

you like to take him out to get food or something he wants when he gets a good grade since he gets happy when they’re high

sometimes you’ll get lower grades than him and you two will study together, or reversed

you’ll get him a new book every time he finishes another one, by the end of the year he has a new shelf just filled with books you’ve given him

you occasionally read him to sleep when he’s having a hard time, or again reversed

he falls asleep pretty quickly when you do this and he really appreciates it

you always sit together during assemblies and choose to be each others partner in the classes you have together

if you don’t decide to do track one year you’ll go to his meets, and after you always take him out to eat since you’re proud

if he’s extra tired then he’ll ask to go home so you will

as soon as he told the gang that he was dating someone they were excited for him, then they found out you were a soc

dally told him to break up with you without even knowing you, johnny told him to give you a chance

when johnny invited you to the curtis house to meet his friends, you brought presents for all of them since you wanted to make a good impression

you had your ways about finding what they like and don’t like

they immediately took a liking to you when you gave them presents and a kiss on johnnys cheek

you’d patch him up and give him bandaids to take home after getting beat up by socs or his parents

sometimes you’d give him money and he would use that money to get you something you’ve been wanting for a while

he’s always so thankful for everything you do for him and everything you give him

your parents love him and how he treats you so they also let him stay over at your house

sometimes when it’s sodas turn to get groceries from the store, you’ll go along with him

he just wants to be around you whenever he can

Everything about you exuded beauty, the way you smiled and how you hair fell about your shoulder. You were, perhaps, seen as the prettiest girl in your school, and while you could flaunt it, you preferred being humble about it.

The sun beat down on your face, illuminating your soft lines and plump lips. You peered down the street to watch for oncoming cars, the gang following in stringing clusters behind you.

It was the first week of summer break, and Darry decided to take you all to a small beach village as a nice vacation and because the weather was so nice.

You shielded your eyes from the bright sunlight and crossed the open road to the pier that overlooked the sea. You could hear the waves crash against the rocks and the hoots and holler of the gang. A blond boy stepped up to you, eyes squinted because of the sun. He smiled at you, his freckled cheeks dusted with a pink blush.

"Hello?" You smiled, shining like a pearl.

"Hello," He smiled back, "You from around here?"

Your lips drew back into a thin line, annoyed at the attempt.

"No," You stated plainly, turning back to the sea. The gang filed in behind you, watching the young boy with a mixture of emotions but none, you could sense, we're good.

"Well, I could introduce you to the place," He gestured out to the village and you shook your head.

"Not interested, thank you," You said, and Soda patted your shoulder.

"You sure? I'm pretty well-versed in this area," He smiled again.

"Kid, she said no, beat it," Dallas said, lighting a cancer stick and letting the smoke curl in the sea breeze.

"Yeah man, back off my sister," Sodapop clicked his tongue I'm annoyance.

"Chill man," the boy raised his hands in surrender before walking away.

"This girl gets hit on everywhere we go," Two Bit remarked, lazily looking out over to the sea.

"Yeah, it's really annoying" Ponyboy grumbled. You laughed lightheartedly and continued walking down the pier.

"Hey, if a guy every bothers you like that again, come tell me, alright?" Darry patted your shoulder.

"See, I wouldn't mind getting hit on like Y/n" Steve said, taking off his obnoxious sunglasses that he swore made him "look cool".

"I would," Johnny remarked, walking alongside you.

"I mind when it's my damn sister getting hit on," Sodapop adjusted his hat, the coastal winds ruffling his hair.

"Oh please, it's fine," You shook your head and laughed.

"Seriously, kid, if someone bothers you like that, you come tell us" Two Bit looked you in the eye, his serious face catching slightly off guard.

"Alright" You gave him a soft smile.

Darry won’t ever admit it, but he treats you like damn royalty. You’ve got him at your beck and call, and he will do almost everything for you. 

If you need to carry something, he’ll take it off your hands no matter how heavy it is and won't accept any arguments. He will always walk on the outside of the path, making sure you’re away from the road with his hand protectively on the small of your back. If you so much as mention being tired, he’ll force you to relax whilst he finishes whatever it was you were doing. 

Sodapop Curtis:

Soda spoils you and isn’t even ashamed to admit it. He showers you in compliments, telling you how pretty you are, how nice your outfit looks, and how perfect your hair is. He’s always   you little gifts, such as flowers or jewellery, refusing to let you pay him back and shrugging   your thanks like it’s no big deal.

If you need anything, he’s doing it for you before you can even finish asking him. If you’re cold, he’s giving you his jacket; if you’re tired, he’s letting you rest on his chest. 

Ponyboy Curtis:

Pony isn’t as flashy as the others, but he still cares about you deeply and treats you like a princess nonetheless. He’ll write you sweet little notes and slip them to you randomly and will feed you compliments like a second language.

He’ll randomly come and sit with you, playing with your hair to relax you or pulling you against him to make sure you’re resting and comfortable. Most of the time, he’ll offer to do things for you before you even realise they need doing.

Johnny Cade:

Johnny is so incredibly gentle with you and treats you with so much care that you might as well be royalty at this point. He notices the smallest things, such as when you’re uncomfortable, and will be at your side in seconds to fix it. 

He’ll always stop whatever he’s doing to help you. If you trip, he’s catching you before you can even register that you’ve stumbled. If you’re cold, he’ll wrap his jacket around you, ignoring the way the chill seeps into his own bones. If you’re happy, he’s happy.

Dallas Winston:

Dallas might not seem like the type, but when he likes someone enough, he will spoil them. It’s not rare that someone sticks around like you do, so he will spoil you rotten to show how much he cares for you, even if he never says it.

He’ll do everything he can to keep you happy, even if that means getting into trouble. He steals all sorts of things for you, going as far as stealing you nice clothes and jewelry. If anyone disrespects you, he’s handling it immediately, and while he acts tough, if you so much as pout at him, he will absolutely melt and give in to you. 

Steve Randle:

Steve loves treating you like a princess, like it actually brings him joy knowing he makes you happy. He’s always showing you off, bragging about how perfect you are to everyone, and it probably drives them insane, but he doesn’t care.

He’ll insist on driving you everywhere, and the passenger's seat is yours. No one else is allowed to sit there, even if you’re not in the car. If you mention that you want something, he’s rushing out the door to get it for you no matter what it is. 

Two-Bit Mathews:

Two is another one of the guys who spoils you rotten, and he doesn’t even care. He’ll playfully call you princess and bow to you whenever he feels like it, loving the way it makes you smile. 

He always lends you his jackets or shirts, even if his wardrobe isn’t particularly large; he just loves seeing you in them and knowing you’re warm. If you’re upset, he isn’t hesitating to find out what the issue is and will always try to cheer you up as best he can.

♡ lighting his cigarettes for him. It started as a one time thing, just lighting it when he'd dropped his wallet and you'd picked it up for him. But he liked it. And you noticed it so you did it again and suddenly, it was a tradition between the two of you.

♡ reading with him in bed. He loves it when you read aloud to him, softly and quietly at night. The bedroom window's open, a cool breeze blowing in. His chest in bare and your head in on his shoulder, book on his chest as you read to him, playing with your hair a little. Your voice is the prettiest sound in the world to him, hanging onto every word.

♡ laying beneath the stars together. Johnny spends a lot of time hanging around outside and because you spend a lot of time hanging around Johnny, so do you. More then anything else, he likes laying under the stars with you, watching as you point out constellations to him and tell him the old myths people used to tell.

♡ tying flowers rings around your ring finger. He wants to marry you. From the moment you first kiss him, Johnny Cade knows that he wants to marry you one far, far away day. For right now, he's just a dumb kid with no real home and nothing to his name but one day, he won't be. One day, he'll take off with you and drive somewhere far from this place. He'll get a job and a little house and he'll be able to buy you a ring...but for now, he plucks up wildflowers and ties them around your ring finger.

Later, he'll learn that you kept everyone of those little flowers pressed between the pages of a poetry book, every ring he ever gave you preserved.

♡ buying you a locket. Just about every guy he knows gives his girl something to symbolize the relationship (Dally gives his ring, Soda gave Sandy a charm bracelet) and Johnny decides to do the same, giving you a silver heart locket with your class pictures inside (I think Mrs. Curtis always paid for Johnny to have his class picture taken, she insisted on it and his parents bothered with it).

♡ he doesn't sneak or steal around you. Yes, Johnny's willing to sneak into places or steal something he needs. But when he's with you, he doesn't do that. He'll always buys the tickets or sodas or whatever else. The most you ever do is go to the movies, mostly, you just like to hang around at the lot, the park, school, or your house. But Johnny does like to take you to dances, mostly because he likes to see you in a pretty dress (oh, he thinks you're so pretty and he's so proud to be your man) and to dance with you.

♡ your initials on his jacket. There's a little pocket on the inside of his jacket, just where his heart is. Johnny usually just keeps money in it (harder to steal from a fella when it's in a hard-to-reach place) but, after you start seeing one another, he keeps your picture there too, your initials scribbled on the pocket in black ballpoint pen.

♡ always touching on you. In a sweet way, of course. Johnny's just an affectionate thing and needs to hold you, to feel you, to touch you and know that you're real and that you love him. So he plays with your hair and holds your hand and kisses you when no one's looking.

♡ kissing his jaw and his scars. As affectionate as he is, he needs to feel it too and to know that you love him just as hard as he loves you. And there's nothing he loves more then your lips on his skin, his scars, taking the painful parts of him and making them into something pretty. It doesn't seem to matter how scared he is or how much something hurts, you always seem to ease his heartache. Always.

♡ passing little love notes. This is before the age of text messages, emails, and apps, you'll have to pass messages the old fashioned way: love notes. You write yours on pretty paper and he writes his on scraps of notebook paper, Johnny's spiderweb scrawl a little messy, in a charming sort of way.

You keep all of the love notes too, in the same shoe box as the poetry book full of flowers.

♡ for the longest time, he only uses that switchblade to cut up fruit for you. And he hopes that is all it'll ever be for, You have a habit of getting some fresh fruit after school for a little snack, going to the park, and just hiding away for a while. Reading, working on homework, just watching the world around you. Johnny joins you in it once you get together and now you share the fruit, his blade cutting it up and his lips kissing the nectar from yours.

♡ sneaking him into your bedroom because you don't want him out there all alone. You worry about Johnny. Constantly. About his home life, about his street life, about the danger he's in no matter where he goes, but with you...with you he's safe and sound. And knowing that, you always want him closer. So you take to sneaking him into your room and laying in bed with him, kissing and whispering until he falls asleep and you just look at him a while, moonlight on his bare skin, hating the world for being so hard on him.

First Dates with Curtis Gang !! (HCs)

(These might sound a bit ‘inaccurate’ to some, but I personally think everyone would be a bit nervous/shy on a first date as well as being more soft. I mean, it’s a date with just the two of you, trying to look tough isn’t their biggest worry lol. I try to keep everything as accurate as possible. I also tried to keep these as gender neutral as possible but I am a cis fem so I can really only see scenarios through my own eyes. I’m trying!)

Warnings - Just fluff, how I think a first date situation with each member would go

Ponyboy

He would lose his mind trying to make everything perfect. I feel he’s not the type to ask someone out without being friends or at least acquaintances first, he has to know you. He needs to know some of your interests, things you dislike - basics. He’ll curate the date and try to incorporate things he knows you’re into to create better conversation.

He definitely thought he was going to get rejected when he first asked you on the date. He mentally rehearsed what he was going to say for at least a week until the date planned finally arrived. He purposefully tried to look his best that exact day to impress you further.

Ponyboy would sooo take you out on a movie date ☹️. He would go for someone who shares similar interests as him - the love for movies a big one on his checklist. He would save up to buy tickets for the both of you to look good instead of just sneaking in. He might even bum Darry of a few cents to ensure he had enough.

“So… how’s about we go see a movie tonight? Tickets for two, on me.”

He definitely smiled like a complete idiot after the question was posed, feeling embarrassed already.

His biggest accomplishment of the night would be to ‘subtly’ hold your hand. He’s too scared to straight up grab it, so he would try to work his hand towards yours as the movie progresses.

He felt more mature than usual. A first date with you was probably his first date ever so it was probably an even bigger deal to him than most.

Johnny

He had his eye on you for a good while before he finally found the right opportunity to ask you out. I can see him watching you from afar in class or somewhere during school, sitting there and drowning in admiration. He would give little side glances with a straight face so that nobody would think he was looking your way. He is Mr. Nonchalant at its finest 🙁🙏🏻

He would finally break it to Dallas he’s got the hots for “some kid at school” and ask how he should make a move. Obviously Dallas would tease him a bit, only to give him tips Johnny would never use. “You go up to ‘em, tell ‘em where the date is - introductions later. Add a little kiss on the cheek and there ya go.” Johnny would probably force a laugh or something and make a mental note to do the exact opposite.

HE WOULD ASK YOU TO A DINER !! I literally can’t stress this enough, Johnny needs to be able to be a listener at times and the speaker at others. He would strategically plan this shit out and eliminate any other ‘typical first dates’ besides going out to eat. Conversation gets awkward? He’s planning to shovel some food in so you feel obligated to talk more. This gives him a good opportunity to get to know you more and ask for your opinions on the food there, which flavor of milkshake you prefer best, or small talk about school and things you may have in common. He’s such an observer and he’ll find lots to talk about when it’s just you two.

Similar to Ponyboy, he was probably so worked up about thinking of asking you on the date. I can see him picking at that little area of skin beside his nails while he asks you, giving you a lopsided smile because he felt stupid. He’d try to think of some excuse to talk to you before asking you out.

“So I was thinking if you, y’know… wanna get something to eat later…? We could go to that diner if you’re up for it.”

He would literally not stop smiling when you accepted the offer. Johnny would do a good job at hiding the flustered feeling pretty well, but hiding a smile that big is hard for him.

I honestly don’t see him as the type to try to impress people. He is who he is and he wants someone who will actually be interested in his normal self. I don’t see him trying to fancy himself up or anything along those lines.

During the date he would try to sneak as many little glances as possible without trying to show it. Obviously he finds you attractive if he’s desperate enough to ask you out, but he doesn’t want to seem too obsessive.

He’d offer to walk you home and be the bigger person even though he doesn’t like to roam around alone at night anymore. He’d be a little hesitant, but he wants to feel protective of some sort and what better what to show it than walk you home and keep you safe?

Dallas

Surprisingly, if Dallas truly has interest for someone he won’t be so bitter about it. He can’t control how his own personality is perceived by others, but he’ll surely tone it down a bit just for your sake.

Social anxiety is afraid of Dallas. He’ll be in the middle of the most mundane task when he notices you. I can totally see him at a gas station, filling up Buck’s car, or attempting to steal some cigarettes from a corner store when he bumps into you. Unlike the others, I feel as if he goes solely off of looks before personality. He’s so raw and isn’t afraid to speak his mind.

His flirting style is a bit aggressive but it surprisingly works half the time - if the attraction is mutual of course. Dallas would say some corny pick up line or straight up call you some pet name before posing the question. He’s definitely the persistent type for sure. If you turn him down he’ll try and persuade his way into the date becoming an official plan.

“Damn, baby - I forgot all about our date tonight,” while proceeding to show he’s checking you out, no hesitation. While you’re over there confused out of your mind, he’ll laugh to himself and attempt to get you to play along.

“I’m serious. Be over at Buck Merril’s Roadhouse at ten.”

I can’t see him doing anything cutesy or romantic on a first date. He’s like the opposite from most, he’ll save the sweet stuff until he’s comfortable and knows he can be more vulnerable with you. His idea of a first date is something he would most likely do with friends.

Dallas would invite you over to lay down with him and get to know your personality better. He’s not so excited to know all of your interests and desires yet, but rather how you are as a person and your morals. He’d probably try to put on a movie in the background while inviting you to share a blunt in bed. He finds conversation to be what reels him in most, and he knows the best conversations flow when high.

He would be such a tease the entire night. He would let small comments slip, even small touches and gestures to help ease you into growing more comfortable with him. He’ll make it his goal to have you wanting more and more of him - hopefully leading to more dates to come.

Sodapop

He probably fell in love at first sight and immediately knew the two of you would have chemistry.

I just know he saw you at the DX and waltzed right up to you with that big, charming grin on his face.

Soda is definitely more bold when he asks somebody out because he knows he’s handsome. Anyone in their right mind wouldn’t reject him.

“Name is Soda, Sodapop actually,” while he proceeds to introduce himself to you and converse for a few minutes before asking the big question. I feel he’s such a friendly and kind person so he’d definitely be good at making interesting conversation and let it flow naturally before he even attempts to mention a date.

“We should totally see each other sometime. Like - soon.” followed up with a sweet smile while he waits for your response.

I feel like he’s such a family type of guy. He would have to make sure you love his friends as well as Ponyboy and Darry only because he sees them as brothers too. I feel like Soda would have a big hangout with the gang where he invites you and weasels his way into claiming it’s a ‘date’.

I think of something casual and fun like a bonfire where you all chit chat and make s’mores, huddled up against each other. This seems more of like a fall/winter type of date but HEAR ME OUT!!

So of course, you accept his offer and head over to his place where you meet the others and accompany them while sitting beside Soda.

He would for sure tell them about you before hand and try to make them get their act together because he feels as first dates are more important than others. Leaving a good first impression is vital. “Just be cool, we’re gonna have fun, don’t embarrass me this time... please?” with a cheesy ass smile to seal it in.

STOP BC SODAPOP IS SUCH A KISS GOODBYE TYPE OF PERSON !!

Soda would try to get all cuddly and shit by the fire the whole night, progressively getting more bold. He would start with small compliments and smiles, moving towards looping an arm around you, etc. By the end of the night he feels like he’s made enough progress to get a little goodbye kiss from you, even if it’s a small peck on the cheek.

“Aw, come on, no kiss?” as he gently places his hands on your upper arms.

Steve

Steve seems like such a sweet guy once you get past the whole ‘tough guy’ exterior he likes to keep up. He would definitely have to know you a bit before asking you out, so I think you would be somewhat friends with him previous to the big question.

He lovesss people with that natural spunk so I can see him taking you out to some party for kicks. Nothing crazy, but some small venue where music is bumping and the two of you can just share a good time without having to worry about much else.

OKAY SO Steve is definitely more of a bolder type of person when it comes to asking someone out. He’s not shy or nervous or anything - more so expectant.

He gets a bunch of attention from all kinds of customers at the DX although they usually rush to see Soda first.

He gets a lottt of tips from Soda on how to shoot his shot and not get flat out rejected.

Steve would probably have been crushing on you for a good while before making a move. I can see the two of you are engaging in the gang’s typical activities, hanging out or chit-chatting in the lot. Steve tries to subtly have some alone time with you when he executes the big question. I just know he asked Soda and/or Dallas to help distract the others 😭

He’ll try and keep his cool even though he’s beyond excited to finally spill it. I’m talking like clearing his throat and uncontrollably smiling seconds prior.

“What do you say to maybe goin’ to some party with me come this weekend?”

All goes accordingly and here comes the day of the date. He’ll try his absolute best to look spotless just to further impress you.

He would offer to pick you up and everything as he tries to seem like a gentleman.

Once you arrive, he would break the ice immediately and take you by the hand to dance, not caring enough to waste time being stuck in that awkward phase.

I just know he would get so flustered when you come in close contact or have some form of physical touch within a specific dance. Steve Randle is touch deprived. He loves that shit.

During upbeat songs he would actually kill it and own the dance floor with you with no shame whatsoever.

Whether it’s an upbeat and groovy song or a more slow one, he’d make the most of every moment with you and try to make this night one to remember in hopes you’ll want to go out again sometime soon.

Darrel

Darry would be the best boyfriend to ever exist, lemme tell you right now.

He’s definitely a big family guy as well, so it’s not surprising he would want someone who’s willing to commit and have intimate and vulnerable moments with.

Since he’s 20, I feel this is a time for him where people his age start to forget about having a stupid high school relationship and begin looking for a serious relationship.

I’m getting ‘friends throughout teenage years, lovers as young adults’ kind of vibes from Darry. The two of you most likely kept in contact and see each other here and there since senior year ended.

Darry would have mentally prepared himself to ask you out for a date at least a week in advance after noticing he’s caught feelings for his high school buddy.

He was most likely pacing around and trying to script out his lines before he finally gathered enough courage to call you. Since seeing each other face to face is harder to get around with work and watching out for his brothers, he resorts to calling you late at night when Soda and Ponyboy are asleep.

He wouldn’t stall or try to linger on about the topic, he would get straight to the point, just like ripping off a bandaid.

“Hey, it’s been a minute since I last saw you and everything. How does a date sound? I’ve been eyeing that restaurant downtown for a while…we might enjoy it.”

I know he would be giggling and smiling nonstop after you accepted his offer 😭

Come the day of the date, Darry had saved up enough to make a reservation at the somewhat fancy restaurant he mentioned on the phone call. (It’s canon that Darry would most likely be a soc if it weren’t for the gang so I’m envisioning this date based off of that.)

He would so give you his jacket/blazer before he sat down on his side of the table. I’m talking like wrapping it around your shoulder type of thing.

The restaurant is definitely more fancy than the usual diner he’d buy some cheap fast food from, but not fancy like some banquet. He would try and make everything run smoothly by planning it beforehand with the booking, nicer outfit, and picking you up to drive you there.

During the date he would sit and admire you from across the table as you awaited your food, loving the sound of your voice as you rambled on and on. He would’ve planned this whole thing out, trying to come up with a date where you could get to know one another without having to do much else. The point of the date is to talk, not have fun and goof around - but maybe catch up on life together.

Two-Bit

He isn’t one to settle down and usually goes after someone on a lonely night or just for kicks. When he does fancy someone for a long period of time, he makes sure you know it.

I get a lot of ‘friends with benefits’ kind of vibe from him because he seems to be the friendly type who can get along with pretty much anyone. Since he finds you attractive and a pleasure to be around, you settled for this weird arrangement.

Weeks into this situationship type of bond, he realized he may want more than a casual flirty friendship.

He’s definitely bold too, like BOLD.

Two-Bit wouldn’t be shy or anything when asking you. I think he would straight up say something blunt like “Let’s go on a date. Sound like fun?” And then proceed to list date ideas to you.

HE WOULD TAKE YOU SOMEWHERE FUN!!

I can see him taking you to a car show or something and being able to crack jokes and show off his knowledge on cars to you. He brings the good vibes and fun, so even if the date doesn’t sound too appealing to you, you’re guaranteed to have a good time with him.

At the show, Two-Bit would definitely gasp and fawn over every pretty car and continue on and on about the make, model, and how unique the style of it is. He would make small comments and flirtatious suggestions just to make you smile.

“Like that one? Imagine all the fun dates we could go in that!”

Y’all might flame me for this but I think he loves hugs 😭. By the end of the date he would initiate a semi-long hug and smile smugly while you caved in and hugged him right back.

Also gonna get flamed, but he would call you cute names and things super casually. In the middle of a sentence he’ll refer to you as “baby”, or “darling” even though the two of you aren’t dating.

He’s a sweetheart deep down and yall know it. He would go the extra mile when he genuinely likes somebody. He would act a gentleman and share his interests with you. HE CARES!!

You met Darry six months ago while you were at the grocery store. You were clearly having trouble trying to reach something on the top shelf and he offered to help you, retrieving the item and handing it to you with a charming, kind smile. The two of you ended up talking in the spice aisle for nearly ten minutes before you both realized that you had places to be. Darry had scribbled his home phone number on your grocery list before leaving. Since then, you mostly saw him on the weekends when he wasn’t working, or on the rare occasion that he wasn’t totally exhausted after work, you would see him for dinner.

It took a while for him to introduce you to his brothers, and eventually the rest of their little gang. But when he did, he came to notice that the boys treated you differently than anyone else. They seemed to respect you, and they didn’t really pick on you or mess with you like they did other people. That was also partially because you seemed to take care of them, and honestly you didn’t even think much of it. You just found yourself doing little things for them here and there. It started with you cleaning up Darry’s work boots one night, and then you ironed Sodapop’s work shirt one day while he was running late for work, and you’ve helped Ponyboy with his homework on multiple occasions when he was struggling through his math homework. 

It made Darry’s heart swell, especially when you took care of Ponyboy and Soda. Ever since their mom died, they haven’t had a female, or even somewhat of a motherly figure in their life. Darry could be tough on them, so having your gentle nature around was almost comforting for them.

Today you had the day off of work so you spent some time at the Curtis’ house. Darry was working so you tried to clean up the place to take it off of his shoulders. Besides, you sometimes spent the night with Darry and ate dinner with them, so you figure you might as well pull your own weight and treat the place as your own. 

“You know Y/N, this ain’t even your house. You don’t have to clean up after us.” Pony says while he sits on the couch and Johnny sits on the floor near the coffee table, and the two of them were playing ‘go fish’.

“Well- I stay here enough and eat enough of yall’s food, I might as well. And I don’t want Darry to have to worry about it when he gets back from work.” You explain as you wipe down the kitchen table with a damp cloth.

Ponyboy smiles softly at that before he looks down at the cards in his hand. “Well… I know that Darry really appreciates it. He probably don’t show it or say it, but… I know he does.” Pony tells you with a little nod.

“I just know he’s got a lot on his plate, and I don’t see you boys helping him clean up much.” You say, the teasing tone clear in your voice while you grin over at Pony. Pony’s expression turns sheepish immediately, and Johnny even chuckles at your playful scolding.

Later that evening when Darry comes home, you stand in the kitchen with him while you two wait for dinner to finish cooking. After a few moments, Darry turns to you as you’re leaning against the counter.

“You know, Ponyboy told me you scolded him like a mother today.” Darry says, and you groan and shake your head.

“I did not! I was just messing with him-” You insist, and Darry laughs.

“He knows that, doll face. I just… think it’s funny. You really do take care of us.” Darry says with a little smile while he reaches for your hand.

You think about it for a second, and you realize that you really do take care of these boys.

“Well… you’re my boys. And someone’s gotta keep some order around here.” You tell Darry with a grin. You hear the front door open, and you poke your head out from around the doorway to see Sodapop and Steve.

“Aht aht, don’t bring them dirty boots in the house. Leave ‘em on the porch.” You tell the two of them, and Ponyboy laughs as they turn back around and begin to take their boots off on the porch.

When you turn back to Darry in the kitchen, the man is just grinning from ear to ear.

“What were you saying about keeping order around here?” He asks jokingly and you can’t help but laugh.

“Hell, even Dally listens to you. You must have instilled some kinda fear in him or something.”

You laugh at that and shake your head, and you move closer to Darry so you’re tucked in his side.

“But… really. Ever since our folks passed, Pony and Soda haven’t really had… a woman to care for them, or like.. A mother figure. If you know what I mean.” Darry tries to explain, and you nod while giving him a little smile.

“I understand, Darry. Really- and… I’m happy to be that for them. I know I can never replace your mom, and I don’t want to- but… I’m happy to look after them. I know it's hard for you to do on your own.” You explain to Darry, and he lets out a quiet sigh while he looks down at you with an expression of admiration.

“Have I ever told you that I love you?” Darry asks, and you laugh softly.

“Yeah. Once or twice I think.” You tease him lightly before the two of you carry on with making dinner before the boys in the living room start getting too rowdy.

Dallas really liked taking photos

While he was roaming the US he ran an errand for this guy at a nicer store and in return the man gave him an older but still nice camera. At first he was like "What the heck man?! Why would I need this?!" But he started making good use of it. When he wasn't stressed about where to go next, he found the most scenic places and snapped a picture. Something about it was cool to him. Being able to find a moment in time that he could freeze forever. He started finding places to get them developed and stuffing them in an old notebook. (How he managed to pay for it or swindle the store is up to you)

When he made it to Tulsa he took a lot less photos. It wasn't exactly a pretty place and he didn't have much use for photos of the streets. But once he became a part of the gang, that changed. In particularly interesting moments he would quietly snap a picture and get them developed if he could (Things like Soda and Steve having gymnastics competitions, Two-Bit trying to hang on the ceiling fan, etc) The gang eventually found out and encouraged him. At first he kept pulling the "Well I have it, might as well make use of it." card whenever Soda or Johnny would ask about it. If Mr. Curtis said something about a career in photography, Dally would brush him off and say something like "It'd just be a waste of money, I'm no good at it anyway."

Then for his 15th birthday, the gang all got him smaller gifts. This was because altogether (With the help of the Curtis parents) they got him a bigger, main gift. Dallas had never celebrated his birthday before or ever gotten gifts so he was kind of confused at first. Then they revealed it to him. A brand new camera and a case to come with it. He thanked them for it and though he didn't show it to them, he was ecstatic. The first photo he took was to test it out and was of the gang and the Curtis parents all in the living room together. It's one of his favorites.

All the photos have 3 things. The date it was taken, his initials, and a little note about them. The notes range from just simple titles to "After this, Steve almost slipped off the roof and Soda fell into a tree."

He has 2 different albums now. One smaller one compiled of nature and stuff when he was traveling around. And a really thick one full of photos of the gang and things he found interesting. After he died, they were both moved to the Curtis house. They all flip through it whenever they miss Dally and Johnny.

Pony sifts through the small pile of things, taking the ever familiar jean jacket into his hands. "...How'd they get this stuff?"

Soda shrugs, resting his head on the side of the bed. "Dunno. Who gave it t'you?"

"Didn't say. There wasn't no note or nothin',"

"Do'ya think it could'a been Johnny's ma, or somethin'--"

"Nah." Pony cuts in, shaking his head. "Johnny's ma didn't care about him, you know that. It was probably just one'a the doctors from the hospital. Found some stuff, 'nd they didn't have blood family to give it to."

Soda looks at his brother for a long moment, his eyebrows furrowing in thought. "That coulda been it." He confirmed, simply.

" 'Least they got it to us, now, right?"

"Right." He smiles and reaches out a hand to Pony, landing it on his knee. He rubs a small circle on it with his thumb.

And it goes quiet. The two of them sit in silence, looking at the small bundle of items. After some time, Pony takes out a small pen and note, writing:

"Thank you."

“Soda, what the hell is that?” Steve asked with a gruff, wiping the sweat off his forehead with an oil rag.

“Uhh, pretty sure that's a jar, Stevie.” Sodapop replied, smirking at him.

“No, dimwit. What's that?”

Steve pointed at the label on it, which read: "TIPS. also taking questions – SODA."

“Oh, yeah!” Sodapop perks up, turning the jar so he could reread the note he had taped on there just an hour before. He stared at it lovingly, like as if it was the best creation he made.

“We're taking questions now, too!”

“We? There ain't no we in you foolin' around, Sodapop. This ain't gonna get us no money!” Steve waved his hands at the jar to gesture to how it's a problem. Soda didn't really care, he was just proud of his jar.

“Uh, no, it ain't, but it does get us some good entertainment, don'tcha think?” Soda's face was bright as he turned the jar back around. “This place is boring! You can only flirt with girls for so long. Well, me. You got your own girl.” He pokes at Steve, winking.

Steve huffs and shakes his head, making his way around the counter and snatching up a waterbottle from underneath it.

“Yeah, well, you have fun with that.” He scoffs, before making his way out.

Soda sighs and shakes his head with a big smile. “I will!” he hollers back.

darry’s your eldest brother and is extremely protective of you, always checks up on you and asking about your day

he has the same expectations for you and ponyboy, he checks over your homework but is calmer with you

he wants you to be with some sort of guardian wherever you go, even if you’re walking down the street for fun

he knows it’s not the safest for you to be alone, especially at night

because he doesn’t have the best relationship with his brothers, he makes cake with you more often than he does with the others

he fucking hates kids so it’s a surprise he enjoys your presence

you remind him a bit of himself, you’re a bit of an ‘outcast in the outcasts’ because you’re the youngest and told you can’t do anything

so dally teaches you how to live in case you ever get put on the streets, teaches you what to do in the worst case scenarios

he’s hard on you though, it’s tough love and he can get really frustrated if you get hurt or in trouble because he’s taught you how to protect yourself

steals random stuff for you, most of the time it’s candy or random sweets like popcorn from the drive in, sometimes it’s a drink

TWO-BIT MATTHEWS

you remind him of his younger sister, he feels obligated to protect you in some way

most of the time, soda and darry are working so they aren’t home most of the time, pony’s hanging out with johnny so keith watches over you

sometimes he calls himself your babysitter because he thinks it’s funny, it’s even better that he knows you’re fully capable of taking care of yourself

he’ll tell you super inappropriate jokes and when darry’s there, he’ll smack him on the back of the head

he steals stuff for you too, whether it’s something related to your studies or a random item you want for some reason

STEVE RANDLE

originally didn’t want to be around you, he doesn’t want to be around ponyboy and you’re with him all the time

but eventually, steve warms up to you and lets you hang out with him and the gang sometimes

he’s actually pretty smart and not many people expect that from him, he helps you with homework even though he can get frustrated at times if you don’t understand

if you’re into cars, expect him to teach you all about them and for him to invite you to the DX

maybe he lets you help him fix some of the cars, of course you won’t get paid money, instead snacks he gives you for free

soda will come up to you in the morning as you’re barely awake, talking to you

Darrel Shaynne Curtis:

Darry, if he were to want one thing for christmas. He would tell you he doesn't want anything. But he actually wants a night of quiet, a night free of worries.

While it's really more of a gift for the gang, like going out on your dime and having a good time while you and Darry are at home alone. He's going to take advantage of that night.

Dinner date in, cuddling while watching a movie on the couch, taking a bath together, and if you're lucky, a passionate night that isn't just a quiet quickie.

Keith "Two-bit" Mathews:

Two bit? Well, twobit wants many things. Maybe a bottle of booze or a mickey shirt. Both are good options, but he want to have a new jacket.

Don't get him wrong, he loves his normal jacket, but he wants a winter jacket. His leather one doesn't do much in terms of winter protection.

It doesn't even have to be a good jacket, it can be second hand and he will still be greatful.

Dallas "Dally" Winston:

Bail, bail money.

On a serious note, get him a pet. I think Dally is alone with his thoughts a lot and it's scary for him. As we saw in the movie and in the book, he's on a hair trigger about if he's going to end his life. So I like to think he needs constant companionship.

A basset hound would be the best breed for him because those dogs are the best company and they will take all your attention away from your thoughts, in Dally's case, it's needed.

Steve Randle:

Same as Two-bit but for a different reason. Steve wants a new jacket simply because he doesn't have one.

His dad is abusive, Ponyboy said so himself. So his dad has probably given him the bare minimum and everything else he has has been bought with his own money or hand me downs from the Curtis's.

A winter jacket would go far for him as those types of jackets cost an arm and a fucking leg. He'll also be even more appreciative if it's a size or two too big so he can grow into it and get many years of use out of it.

Sodapop Patrick Curtis:

I think Soda would be happy with anything. But if you asked him, he'd tell you a chain. If you asked him on a deeper level, he'd tell you a simple chain so he can wear his parent's rings close to his heart.

Sodapop has his parents' rings, he holds them close and sometimes you can see him wearing his dad's ring on his left middle finger as it's too big for his ring finger.

If you got him a chain and then helped him loop his parents' rings around the chain, he'd cry. A hug from them would always be worth more, but just having their rings close to his heart.

Johnny Cade:

A blanket, that's what he wants for christmas. He wasnts a blanket that's only his.

Johnny has a shitty home life, fuck you Mr. and Mrs. Cade, and he's often left to sleep out in the lot or the Curtis household. Plus, if there's a chance you make the blanket by had or you spray it in your purfume/colonge, he will cry.

That's all he wants, he'll use it every day. He'll lay awake at night and smile when he thinks back to how he got the blanket.

Ponyboy Michael Curtis:

Pre book, he'll want some new track spikes. Post book, he'll want a copy of Gone With The Wind.

Post book, I think Ponyboy would quit track. Everytime the starter pistol sounded, he'd flinch and be reminded of Dally, so he quit track. So a copy of Gone With The Wind would be the best gift for him.

Reading this book would remind him of his time with Johnny. When he unwraps it, he looks at the picture of Johnny and Dally on the mantle and smiles somberly. He then gently hugs you and whispers his thanks, trying to resist the urge to read out loud for you like he did for Johnny.

Could i request a platonic shy reader the gang just basically adopts? Her home life is rough so she basically stays on the curtis couch. Darry made her really nervous at first but she realizes he's just a big sweetheart and is very soft with her when she comes over with a fever just not feeling well? All the gang pitching in to help her feel better?

Every second that passed only made your body ache more. You were stuck in a tug of war between pain and uncomfortableness, the fever that you have putting pressure on you that made you weak frame shake. You were currently laying on the couch in the Curtis brothers house swaddled in blankets provided by Darry.

Darry would often peek his head in to check up on you, giving you a fresh damp towel and adjusting your blankets gingerly. You would always instinctively curl up towards him, even though he used to scare you out of your wits you'd grown to love him like a teddy bear.

Pony and Soda walked in, kneeling by your makeshift bed.

"Your mom called, she wants you home," Pony whispered. You shut your eyes and sighed before shaking your head.

"I don't want'a" you mumbled, pulling the blankets over your head and knocking of the paper towel. Soda pulled the blanket down slightly and reapplied the compress.

"We know, Y/n" he said, soothingly. Suddenly the door cracked open slightly, you squeezed the blankets in fear, thinking it wad your family here to come pick you up, however the rest of the gang stumbled in.

"Look who I found drinking outside," Steve said, pointing at Dally, Johnny and Two Bit boisterously before immediately quieting down when seeing you.

"Woah, what's happening here?" Johnny asked, his voice as quiet as a mouse like he was trying not to disturb people.

"Y/n's got a pretty nasty fever," Darry said sternly, closing the door to stop the light from hurting your sensitive eyes.

"Awww, poor baby," Two Bit cooed obnoxiously before settling down on the floor near the couch.

"How ya feeling kid?" Dally asked, handing you a cigarette.

Darry smacked it out of his hands, "That will probably make it worse," he scored Dally but he just shrugged and kicked his feet up.

"Steve, what was that tea you made me when I was sick. Your mom's recipe or something. It worked wonders for me, make it for them," Soda observed and Steve nodded.

"Alright, who wants to come to the store with me," Steve said, pulling out a wad of cash and counting his bills.

"I'll go, I need to get soup for Y/n," Darry said, grabbing the keys to his worn truck.

"And I'm gonna go get a couple more beers," Dally said smugly, getting up and stretching before heading out the door.

"And I'm going to take all of Dallys beers," Two Bit joked and followed him out. Soda, Steve and Darry followed.

The door closed and silence enveloped you.

"Finally, they're gone." Pony said, sitting next to you with a thick book. Johnny sat next to him.

"What're readin'?" You mumbled trying to catch a glimpse of the title.

"Gone with the wind, want me to read it outloud?" He asked.

You nodded eagerly and Johnny hummed a noise of approval too.

"Alright, just promise that you'll sleep after this chapter," he said, you huffed but smiled as Pony started reading.

James Mace

Though he keeps them basic, simple, short and sweet, Mace absolutely writes love notes. If you aren't already dating, he'd be the deepest of secret admirers, meaning you would get lovely gifts and things but never know who he was. Mace strikes me as the "hopelessly in love with his best friend" type. He's around to make sure his gifts are appreciated, stops if they aren't, and also escalates if you seem super interested 🥰.

Curtis Everett

Definitely a secret-admirer type but not really a letter writer. Curtis also keeps it simple. He prefers 'gifts' that make your day easier, so he coordinates more tedious tasks be done (if you work together) or does stuff like pay for your drink ahead of you in line at the café. Little things like that rather than deliveries of chocolates and flowers.

Jimmy Dobyne

Old school and old fashioned, Jimmy will write you the occasional letter. It's meaningful but not gushy. He's honest about how happy you make him and descriptive of your best times together. Every so often flowers or candy don't seem like enough, usually after hard times or big events. Valentine's as a holiday...doesn't really count.

Johnny Storm

Nah. If he likes you, you'll know, and if he can just text or call, he ain't writing shit on paper.

Jake Jensen

Digitally? Yes, tons of notes. Bunch of AI/deepfake videos of animals or famous people professing how much he loves you. Most of them are funnier than hell, several have brought you to tears, and I would not put it past him to sneak an intro to a marriage proposal in one...

Lloyd Hansen

He takes great pride in making all the little cards on gifts horrible. "So you smell better" on the perfume he buys you, "eat me and like it" on the chocolates, and, of course, "don't be fucking late" on the dinner invite. On the back it also says "wear something slutty."

Ari Levinson

No letters, sorry. Snail mail reminds him of deployment so he'd rather not. Ari did enough secretive stuff in the military, too, so he'll just openly admire you, thanks.

Ransom Drysdale

He tried once.

He then had to clean up an overflowing bin of wasted papers from shit drafts, and he's never fucking doing that again. He'll take you shopping. Problem solved.

Andy Barber

The only love letters/notes he's written have been in apology for having to miss a date or special occasion due to work. Sorry. I know that sucks, but overall, you'd also rather he spend time actually with you whenever possible instead of running around buying cards and writing notes.

Steve Rogers

They start as letters but end up half full of doodles. One of Steve's favorite subjects to sketch from memory is your profile. Your smile comes in at a close second.

Bucky Barnes

Would so much rather spend the time and effort with you, but if he has to be away (and he can find enough space for himself to quietly focus on it) then he'll write you. Though he's not as well-read or eloquent as Steve, Bucky has the advantage of being slightly dorkier and (deliberately) funnier. His love letters are sweet, spicy, and often hilarious.
