This is, unfortunately, my last entry for Juleap. I was expecting to do a couple of entries more, but, as we say in México: "No me da la vida." Which practically can be translated to "My life isn't long enough to do stuff."
This fanart was intended for July 23, which is Mérante's birth anniversary, since he was born on that same date on 1828 (Yes, he was a real figure!). I took as a reference a portrait that's shared on his biography on the Official page of the Opera Garnier.
Huh, a bit of French culture in the context of the Paris Olympics Games...
Made with watercolor paint over Sketch paper and finished at July 31 of 2024.
Time of making: 158 min. Approx.
Points per character: 79 points.

I reblog this post so you can have an idea how things will be done in the Juleap event. We'll be following the same rules, explained above. ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻
Tumblr media
Hello everyone! So some folks over in the Marigold Bridge server have been asking about doing another event, since the Secret Santa we did last December went pretty well. And since Coco Day, February 27th, is coming up, doing an event soon seemed like a good idea. But… things like Secret Santas and other such exchanges take a lot of time and planning! So… I thought we could do something else–a different type of event, and one I’ve run before for other fandoms.
A Fandom Friendly!
What’s a “Friendly?”
A friendly, according to the Wikitionary, is “a game which is of no consequence in terms  of ranking, betting etc.” In this case, it’s a competition with no winners or losers–this is purely for fun!
What is the Coco Fandom Friendly?
The Coco Fandom Friendly is a relaxed, week-long, fandom-wide competition (so you do not need to be a member of the server in order to participate) that fandom members of all ages and levels of skill can participate in. It also does not require any type of stressful commitment–either you participate or you don’t! Essentially you will create a fanwork (or fanworks) of any kind about your favorite character(s), and the characters that get the most love win!
Wait, so the CHARACTERS win? Not one of the participants?
That’s right! The participants do not win or lose! In this competition, you are not fighting against anyone else. Instead, you are trying to help your favorite characters win by creating fanworks of them!
Is there a prize of any kind?
Not really–just the excitement of participating in a fandom event, and knowing that you helped your favorite characters in a competition.
What kind of fanworks are allowed?
Anything! They can be art, writing, music, animation, photography, fan videos, etc. Entries can also be gen (no shipping), or feature nearly any ship (with some exceptions–see below). AUs and fancharacters are perfectly fine as well! Just make sure it relates to Coco, of course.
Is there anything that’s not allowed?
Yes. There are a few things that are UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES allowed:
1) Not SFW entries of any kind (this is an all-ages competition, so please keep it tasteful!) 2) Entries using other people’s art or writing (such as a fanvid that uses other people’s artwork) 3) Entries involving any ships that feature incest or adult/child ships (I don’t think I need to elaborate here)
Can I submit things I’ve created in the past?
Nope! Your entries must be completed during the week of the competition, which will be February 21st through February 27th.
But what if I’m not good at art/writing/anything??
It doesn’t matter how good or bad you are! The only thing that matters in this competition is how much time you put into what you make! That’s why you will earn points based on how much time you spend on your entries.
When you work on your entry (or entries–you can make as many as you want!), you need to time yourself (using a stopwatch app, an actual stopwatch, or just looking at a clock to see when you started and when you finished), and then when you post the entry, you will say how many minutes you spent on the piece, and what characters are in it. Each minute you spend on the piece is worth half a point.
For example, say you spend an hour working on a fanfic about Héctor and Imelda. That’s 60 minutes, and with each minute being worth half a point, that’s thirty points for each character (so 30 points for Héctor and 30 points for Imelda–it’s not split!).
Is there a limit to how many points we can earn?
Yes–you can only earn up to 100 points per character (which would mean spending like… not quite 3.3 hours on something). So don’t feel the need to only earn points for one character–you can earn points for as many characters as you want! Share the love!
How do I submit an entry?
Any time between February 21st and February 27th (so, starting at midnight, EST, on the 21st, and ending on 11:59 PM, EST, on the 27th) you can post your entry with the following formatting:
Coco Fandom Friendly Entry [Title] Characters: ____ Minutes
As well, YOU MUST TAG THE POST WITH #COCOFANDOMFRIENDLY ! This is extremely important!! If you don’t, I might not see your entry!!
What characters are we earning points for?
The characters are split into three categories, and there will be a winner for each. These categories are…
Primary Miguel Héctor Imelda Ernesto
Secondary Elena Coco Óscar & Felipe Julio Rosita Victoria Chicharrón Pepita Dante
Minor Enrique Luisa Socorro Manny & Benny Rosa Abel Carmen Berto Gloria Franco Gustavo Frida Ceci Emcee Misc. Alebrije (includes fancharacters) Misc. Character (includes fancharacters)
In order to earn points for the characters, they must be involved in the piece, and you must list them by name in the entry format. In order for them to be involved in the piece… it depends on what kind of piece you’re doing–for art, the character just has to be in the picture. For something like writing or fanvid, however, a brief mention or glimpse of a character doesn’t count–the piece has to focus on those characters.
So… I think that covers everything! Remember, don’t start working on your entries until February 21st at midnight EST!
If anything about these rules seems unclear or if you have any other questions, feel free to send an ask to this blog, and I’ll help you as best as I can.

An Observation!
I've been following both the artists and programmers' communities for a while. I observed that the artists' community tends to be more prone to depression and sensitivity, while the programmers' community often appears more indifferent, with a casual perspective toward life. I’ve wondered why this might be the case. Even I, when take on the role of an artist, feel more sensitive and get easily saddened, but as a programmer, I take things more lightly.
After some thought, I realized that artists often seek validation and the spotlight. They post their artwork on social media, where it’s measured by likes and comments. However, since it’s social media, they often don’t receive the level of recognition they expect. Sometimes, they receive criticism, which can be disheartening. When a post gets likes, dopamine levels rise, creating a sense of temporary happiness. The more likes they receive, the more they post, but this doesn’t lead to lasting happiness. It can become addictive, and when those likes don’t come, dopamine deprivation sets in, leading to feelings of sadness or depression. Social media algorithms play a role in this, ultimately benefiting from the time users spend on these platforms. The more time you spend there, the more they gain, while you might end up feeling unfulfilled.
On the other hand, programmers don’t typically post updates on social media (because they can build their own platforms!). They track code on GitHub, finding satisfaction from solving bugs and seeing their products used. Their joy comes from people finding their work useful. Think of all the software you use daily—how many developers can you name? But you could probably name that fan artist who frequently shares their struggles online. The programming community often feels more supportive, with less focus on competition. It’s a peaceful space compared to many artist communities.
So, what’s the solution? Should artists stop posting on social media? Well, maybe not entirely, as it can be a way to attract big companies or art connoisseurs. But perhaps artists could seek other ways to share their work, like through collaborations, virtual exhibitions where artists and outside visitors alike can view each other’s art, or art fairs where diverse works are showcased. These approaches could offer a healthier balance.
I remember participating in Juleap (a Ballerina movie event) hosted by a friend, and I felt immense and genuine pleasure from creating art and stories for it. I didn’t expect likes or comments—I was simply excited to explore a new community and try new things. It helped me realize my potential, which was priceless. So, perhaps instead of seeking validation, artists could explore new creative outlets and focus on personal growth. And maybe stop checking notifications every minute!

My second entry for the Juleap event on Tumblr! I kinda got inspired to keep doing watercolor paintings, this time with Camille. I wanted hers to be very contrasting with Félicie's. The redheaded girl's was full of life, nature, color. In this one, I decided to use lighter and cold tones, and the only background in here is a white courtain from which the lights filters into the room. Of course, given to the lack of objects, it took me less time to paint. And it's not like I love to draw her suffering, on the contrary, this hurt me to draw, but I wanted to explore that melancholic, troubled and lost nature she has beneath her easygoing appearance.
Made with watercolor paint over Sketch paper and finished at July 15 of 2024.
Time of making: 120 minutes approx.
Points per character: 60 points

This is my very first entry for the event, and, I hope it won't be the only one I make.
I like those photos of girls wearing flower crowns, they look cute, and I thought Félicie would look like it as well. 😊 I thought that watercolors would work for this art piece, although this technique isn't one of my strengths. But, as Félicie herself knows, you can't learn anything unless you try, even if that means to make some mistakes along the process. 😉
Made with watercolors over Sketch paper and finished at July 10 of 2024.
Time of making: 415 minutes approx. (I forgot sometime in the making to time myself, so I had to guess what time I didn't count 🙈)
Number of points per character: 27.5

So well, I've been like, very busy these past two weeks, and I lost motivation to create during that time, but I'm back with a little video I wanted to do for a while. (Also, I obviously had to recreate a long dead trend, as it is my costume but I don't care. 😜)
Meet the Ballerina/Leap! Characters! I had so much fun making this meme! 😊 I hope to be back with more content!
Made with CapCut at July 25 of 2024.
Time of making: 63 minutes, let's round it up to 60.
Points per character: 30 points.

I really didn’t think I could make another one in like two days! But tonight it struck me that I don’t have to create masterpiece every time I draw! Why not make a chibi Victor sticker instead? How long could it take? I’m like doodling every night before bed! And now you’re seeing the outcome!
Time taken: 36 minutes
Victor grabs: 18 points!

Félicie Milliner: Fearless A B/L! FMV Tribute
A Gaulmont and Lionsgate's "Ballerina/Leap!" movie fan music video tribute, with the song "Fearless." written and performed by the indie artist Malinda Kathleen Reese. Another Juleap! entry for Félicie.
Time of making: 130 minutes aprox.
Points per character: 65 points.
Sooo, hehe, do you guys remember I did a poll contest of your favorite 3D animated heroine a while back? Hehe, I didn't until I recently checked my previous posts. 😅 Félicie had won the popularity contest in my channel, and I had just promised to make a music video for her, but I wasn't able to do anything since I had just entered college and the computer went "poof!" Until now, that I'm on vacations and I have the computer back. 😊
I thought of many songs that could fit Félicie, but I finally opted for this one, sung by MALINDA, one of my favorite indie songwriters. This song is also one of my favorites, as it reminds me of my restless, curious young self, and how now it describes how it feels to be finally at the place I always dreamed to be. Its ups and downs, and how the World and my vocation still asks me to be... fearless. That's why Félicie is my comfort character, because I relate to her a lot...
I'm not exactly proud on how this turned out, as I have complications cutting scenes and not leaving them that long, but that's just not my style. I'm old school, and I apprecciate when a single scene can tell a story without a lot of transitions.
This is fanmade and for entertainment only and I don’t want to own the copyrights. The copyrights belongs to their respective owners.

Welcome to Juleap 2025!
Tumblr media
What is it "Juleap" all about?
Started by the user @greatmarta , is a fandom event similar to the Coco fandom friendly, in which people can make as many content as they want of any of the characters that appear in the movie. The more content a certain character gains, the more possibilities are there for this one to win by the end of the month.
Following this example, we have our own fandom friendly for the movie Leap or Ballerina, hosted on July.
These are the rules you have to follow, as originally redacted by the creator of the event:
Time yourself as you draw/write. Divide the number of minutes by 2. Each character featured in your work is awarded that number of points. At the end of the month, the character with the highest number of points wins.
Please tag your works as "#b/l!fandomfriendly".
Another rules to take into consideration:
1) No NSFW entries of any kind.
2) No entries using other people’s art or writing (such as a fanvid that uses other people’s artwork)
3) No entries involving any ships that feature incest or adult/child ships (I don’t think I need to elaborate here)
Canon characters (your work must feature at least one of those):
- Félicie Lebras/Milliner
- Victor Hubert
- Madame Odette
- Monsieur Louis Mérante
- Rosita Mauri
- Camille Le Haut
- Régine Le Haut
- Rudolph Rankovsky
- Nora
- Dora
- Mathurin
- Mother Superior
- Monsieur Luteau
- Auguste Emmanuel Vacourbeil
- The Opera Janitor
Happy creations! 😃🎉

Juleap is over, but I wanted to complete my series of B/L! watercolor portraits. This one is Odette, and I used as a reference for the painting, a picture from a dancer that the fandom considers a high inspiration for the character in the movie: Emma Livry.
Odette, unlike Mérante, wasn't a historical figure. On the other hand, Emma Livry was, one of the many dancing couples that Mérante had. "There was a fire on the stage" can be interpreted with many meanings, and what happened to Emma Livry in the end can be one of them.
She was a top star at the Opera, "the best of her generation" until one day while rehearsing, her dress caught on fire with one of the gas lamps at the stage. Most of her body got burnt and, unfortunately, Emma died at a young age after that incident.
Made with watercolors over Sketch paper at August 2nd of 2024.
