Confession time:

I never really like Rogue One. I don't really know why because it came out four years ago (I mean, three and two monthes but yeahr) but I remember leaving the cinema with my dad and I was like "meh". It wasn't bad to me but also not outstandingly good.

I kinda forgot it existed but now with the sequels being finished, I saw the dvd in the local store and got it. Because, you know, thinking about it - I should have loved it. First of all, I love star wars. Second, I am all in for drama and good character building and an amazing plot and Rogue One has all of that.

So I got the DVD late last year. And I just finished watching the movie. It is 1.30am and I am sobbing. I was right with the "I should have loved the movie" thing.

Rogue One is amazingly beautiful. Cassian went from being someone who follows orders, no matter if he believes they are the righr thing or not, to being someone who fights for what he believed in. Who dies for it. And Jyn is the strong and powerful woman I love to see in Star Wars and that I hope every girl out there can look up to. She does not need to be saved. She is her own woman, yet doesn't come along as egoistic or a mary sue (smt that I missed a bit in Captain Marvel tbh). I had heard the "I am one with the force, and the force is with me" mantra before but I didn't realize it was from that movie so that feels like a full circle moment for me.

Why didn't I rewatch the movie earlier? Why am I so stupid and never gave it a second chance? God, I am an idiot.

You want to know why Inigo Montoya remains such an iconic and beloved character even 35 years after the Princess Bride came out?

It's because he's one of the few characters in fiction who has a story where he has dedicated his life to revenge, his whole motivation is about getting revenge....and he gets it! and then he isn't empty or despairing! he doesn't regret it! he's totally satisfied!

because so many stories about revenge or rage are about characters "seeing the futility of their actions" or learning "their desire for revenge has only made them the monsters they hated" FUCK THAT.

Inigo Montoya kills the man who kills his father, is allowed to live in the narrative after and be happy about it and it is so satisfying. it's fantastic. it's iconic.

let more characters rage against the world, bring it down with bloodied hands, and let them be FUCKING RIGHT about it. Let them celebrate their success with sharp grins, and let them live happy, full lives where they always remain proud/fulfilled for what they've done

Four Years Worth of Interesting Performances...

Sometimes there are some performances at the National Finals that stick in the mind. They may not be the ones you'd choose to revisit or blog about, but the memory of them won't leave you alone.

Here are four performances from 1992-1995 that are, well, noteworthy.

Fabienne Pétrisse - "Mon mec est dans la finance" - Belgium 1992 Last Place. There are so many Belgian performances that aren't available to see - and this is one of the ones that is. So Belgium.

K-2 - "Pepeljuge su same" - Croatia 1993 Last Place. From the first Dora in 1993. K-2 have got the velvet outfits, the frilly cuffs and the chokers. Unfortunately this is the most off pitch performance I've witnessed so far.

Megapolis - "Pushkin" - Russia 1994 8th place out of 9. Russian reggae about Pushkin and a man with a 19th century pistol who looks fairly angry about something. Why? I don't know. At least we know it's not Chekov's gun.

Master Fatman - "Jordisk Kærlighed" - Denmark 1995 4th place in final. Currently rated at 4.5 stars on Eurovisionworld.com, Master Fatman was something of a Danish celebrity in the early 1990s. In 1995 he decided to try bringing his style to Eurovision. He tried again in 1996...
