[ad_1] New Delhi: The last rites of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92, will be performed today at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi at 11:45 am with full State honours.   Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold the funeral at a location where a memorial could be built to honour Singh’s contributions. Kharge said this would be a fitting tribute to Singh’s stature and in line with the tradition of building memorials for former prime ministers at their cremation sites.  The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed the arrangements, stating, “It has been decided by the Government that State funeral will be accorded to Dr. Manmohan Singh. The funeral will take place at 11:45 am on 28th December 2024 at Nigambodh Ghat, New Delhi.”  Singh’s body will be kept at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters from 8:30 am to 9:30 am for people and Congress workers to pay their last respects. The final journey will begin at 9:30 am from the AICC headquarters to Nigambodh Ghat, Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal said.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was among the first to pay homage at Singh’s residence on Friday, called his passing a major loss for the nation. “Dr. Manmohan Singh’s death is a big loss. The country has lost an eminent statesman, renowned economist, and distinguished leader,” Modi said.  Draped in the Tricolour, Singh’s body was placed at his residence, 3 Motilal Nehru Road, where his family, including his wife Gursharan Kaur and daughters, were present. Several leaders, party workers, and the public paid their respects at the sprawling Lutyens’ Delhi bungalow that was Singh’s home for over a decade.  Singh, known as the architect of India’s economic reforms and a skilled consensus-builder in politics, passed away at AIIMS Delhi late Thursday night. The government has announced a seven-day State mourning as a mark of respect for the former prime minister.  Manmohan Singh is survived by his wife Gursharan Kaur and three daughters. PAC to Investigate SEBI Chief Madhabi Puri Buch Over Conflict of Interest Allegations
Madhabi Puri Buch, the Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), is under scrutiny after allegations surfaced regarding a conflict of interest during her tenure. The Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has initiated an investigation into claims that Buch continued to receive payments from ICICI Bank while holding her regulatory position at SEBI. These payments, which included pensions and Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), have raised questions about whether Buch’s financial ties to the bank compromised her impartiality as the head of the market regulator.
The Congress party has been particularly vocal, accusing Bush of receiving substantial sums from ICICI Bank, amounts that allegedly exceeded her salary during her time at the bank. These payments reportedly varied in amount and frequency, sparking concerns about transparency and Buch’s potential conflict of interest. Congress leader Pawan Khera has pointed out that the bank even paid Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on her ESOPs, a benefit he claims might not be extended to all employees, further intensifying scrutiny.
The PAC, chaired by K. C. Venugopal, has added this issue to its agenda following demands from several members during a meeting in late August. They are expected to summon Buch later this month, along with officials from the finance and corporate affairs ministries, to delve deeper into SEBI’s functioning and Bush's involvement with ICICI Bank.
In addition to these allegations, Buch has been linked to the Adani Group controversy through a report by Hindenburg Research. The report claims that Buch and her husband owned stakes in companies tied to a money syphoning scandal involving the group. These allegations were strongly denied by Buch, who maintains that all required financial disclosures were made to SEBI during her tenure.
Buch, who became the first woman to lead SEBI in 2022, has built a reputation as a reformist leader, introducing stricter regulatory frameworks for India’s financial markets. However, the controversy surrounding her financial ties to ICICI Bank has cast a shadow over her accomplishments. While her supporters argue that the payments were legitimate retirement benefits, the investigation by the PAC will determine whether any ethical lines were crossed.
The outcome of this inquiry is likely to have significant implications for Buch’s career and SEBI’s reputation, as the committee seeks to ensure that regulatory bodies maintain integrity and independence.

With Eyes On 5 States, Congress Top Panel To Meet In Hyderabad Today
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Congress will hold a mega rally in Hyderabad on Monday Hyderabad, New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will meet today to finalise the strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in five states. The three-day crucial meeting in Hyderabad is aimed at boosting the party's campaign in the poll-bound Telangana, officials said. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will chair the CWC meeting. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will also be there, they said. Party general secretary K C Venugopal said he is confident that Congress would form government in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram that go to polls later this year. There could also be a discussion on holding 'Bharat Jodo Yatra 2'. On Monday, the grand-old party will hold a mega rally in Hyderabad. "We will announce six guarantees for the people of Telangana. We hope that when the elections come, the party will get a clear mandate from the people," said senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. Mr Ramesh termed the CWC meeting as historic that will be "transformative" for Telangana politics. Launching a scathing attack on the BRS government led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, he said, "Understand one thing that the Modi government and the KCR government are two sides of the same coin. There is no difference between them, in Delhi there is Narendra Modi and in Hyderabad there is KCR.". Telangana is set to witness a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling BRS and the Congress. The Telangana election will serve as a litmus test for the INDIA alliance before the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress reconstituted the Congress Working Committee, and made some surprise additions last month. The committee was formed 10 months after Mallikarjun Kharge became the party chief. It has 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees and 13 special invitees. With Eyes On 5 States, Congress Top Panel To Meet In Hyderabad Today Read the full article

After MP status, Rahul gets back official bungalow
The Lok Sabha House Committee re-allotted the 12, Tughlaq Lane Bungalow to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, a day after he was reinstated as Lok Sabha MP.
Tumblr media
NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha House Committee re-allotted the 12, Tughlaq Lane Bungalow to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, a day after he was reinstated as Lok Sabha MP. “The whole country is my home,” Gandhi quipped when asked about his reaction to being re-allotted the bungalow, which has been his home for nearly two decades.
Gandhi vacated the official residence on April 22 after the LS housing committee, which deals with matters related to the housing of members of the Lower House, served a notice asking him to vacate. Ever since, he has been staying with his mother Sonia Gandhi at her 10, Janpath residence.
“I am ready to pay any price for speaking the truth,” he had said after vacating the house. On Monday, the Lok Sabha secretariat restored Gandhi’s status as an MP, days after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a defamation case.
He was disqualified as a member of Parliament on March 23 after a Gujarat Court sentenced him to two years. Meanwhile, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said on Tuesday that Gandhi will visit his constituency Wayanad in Kerala on August 12–13.

Manipur: Rahul takes chopper to reach Churachandpur after being stuck for hours at Bishnupur
The Congress leader was on his way to relief camps in Kuki-dominated Churachandpur along with K C Venugopal and other leaders when his convoy was halted at Bishnupur near Imphal.
Tumblr media
GUWAHATI/NEW DELHI: Violence hit Manipur on Thursday and witnessed high drama as the police blocked Rahul Gandhi’s convoy citing law and order issues, triggering a political slugfest between the Congress and the BJP.
The Congress leader was on his way to relief camps in Kuki-dominated Churachandpur along with K C Venugopal and other leaders when his convoy was halted at Bishnupur near Imphal. The local administration led by the district magistrate and the Superintendent of Police prevented them from proceeding further.
Later, when a large crowd gathered around the convoy and demonstrated both for and against the Congress team’s visit, the police fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Following this, Gandhi returned to Imphal and took a helicopter reportedly provided by the government to reach his destination.
Churachandpur is one of the worst affected towns in the ethnic rioting which broke out in the state two months ago. After meeting inmates at the relief camps, Gandhi said: “I came to understand what has happened and to try and bring back peace.”
He had lunch with children at one of the camps. Later, Gandhi met the leaders of civil society organisations and the families of victims. Meanwhile, a major political showdown erupted following the police action with the Congress accusing the BJP of trying to stop the party leader from talking to the victims of violence and the BJP blaming Gandhi for being irresponsible and proceeding with the road trip even after the local authorities requested him to use a chopper to visit the Kuki-dominated areas.
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said: “PM Modi has not bothered to break his silence on Manipur. He has left the state to fend for itself. Now, his double-engine disastrous governments are using autocratic methods to stall a compassionate outreach by Rahul Gandhi.”
Echoing Kharge, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said: “The PM may choose to remain silent or be inactive but why stop Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to listen to all sections of the Manipuri society and provide a healing touch?” BJP national spokesperson and Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra said the local administration had asked Gandhi to use a chopper but he stubbornly refused and hit the road.
Action based on Intelligence inputs: cops Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day visit to ethnic strife-torn Manipur, was stuck at Bishnupur near state capital Imphal for a few hours after his convoy of cars was stopped by the police and local administration. According to police sources, there were intelligence inputs that his convoy may come under attack

[ad_1] GG News Bureau New Delhi, 2nd Dec. The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Monday amid intense protests by opposition members, who raised issues regarding the Adani indictment in a US court on bribery charges and the recent violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. As soon as the House reconvened after the first adjournment, opposition members rushed to the Well, demanding a discussion on these issues, while some raised slogans from the aisles. Despite the disruptions, the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024, was introduced by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. BJP’s Sandhya Ray, who was in the Chair, urged members to allow the House to function and pointed out that the voters’ issues were being watched. However, the protests continued, and Ray adjourned the House for the day. This followed a similar scenario last week when the Lok Sabha was also disrupted over the same issues. Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju was seen talking to Congress leader K C Venugopal and other opposition leaders. The Adani Group has denied the bribery charges in the US case, asserting that neither Gautam Adani nor his nephew Sagar have been accused of violating the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Opposition parties scramble to respond to BJP’s pressure over Udhyanidhi’s remark on Sanatan Dharma
The TN minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comment on Sanatan Dharma has stirred a huge controversy and after pressure from the BJP, all the opposition parties are working together to give a befitting response. The Congress officials came up with different perspectives whereas West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee advocated her values for Sanatan Dharma and said that each and every religion should be valued and respected. Other, majority of opposition parties maintained their silence.
Rajnath Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Prahlad Patel, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Anurag Thakur collectively called out the opposition alliance and asked them “not to play with Hindu sentiments”. Congressman Priyank Kharge came in the defense of Udhayanidhi and said that any religion that does not respect other religions or does not give value is not a religion but is ‘as good as a disease.’
However, Stalin’s comment was criticized by senior BJP leaders including Kamal Nath and Karan Singh. “Udhayanidhi's preposterous statement... Is most unfortunate. I take strong objection...” Singh said.
“These may be his personal views. I am not in agreement with him,’ Nath said.
“Udhayanidhi’s preposterous statement that Sanatan Dharma should be eradicated is most unfortunate. Crores of people in this country follow, to a lesser or greater extent, the tenets of Sanatan Dharma. I have the highest regard for the magnificent Tamil culture, but I take strong objection to the statement,” Singh said.
Trying to tread a middle way out, K C Venugopal said, “Our view is clear that we support ‘sarv dharma sambhav Bharat’. That is the Congress ideology.” However, he added, “Every party has their freedom to give their views. Their views. We respect everyone’s beliefs.” Adding more to the squabble, Karnataka minister and son of the Congress president Priyank Kharge came in support of Udhayanidhi’s statement.

It was unknown how many people were held as police deployed pepper spray to disperse protesters in Shanghai and struggled to put a halt to demonstrations in other cities, including the capital Beijing. The municipal government of Beijing decided that it would stop building barriers to keep people out of housing developments where illnesses are present.
