I fell in love with Kacey Musgraves and dubbed her my queen in 2014 after I saw her do Follow Her Arrow on the Grammys that year. I finally saw her live on this tour in Boston (Sept 7th 2024) and it was astounding. I have never seen such immaculate arena production. I went as far as to purchase tickets to go see her again with my sister in Texas, I even got plane tickets, and then realized I have a gig to sing at that eve! But Kacey really is that good. I was gooped and gagged at the show. I cannot believe she did Family is Family (an absolute anthem in my household) in this set! Before playing that song, watching this could not live up to my experience of seeing her live. I truly laughed, cried, my mouth was agape, and when it wasn't on the floor it was singing along to this angel. The way that this show only solidified how much I love Deeper Well. Jade Green was a highlight for me (a song that hadn't grabbed me when I listened to it just off the record), but honestly Cardinal blew my mind so entirely, I was hooked from the opening. The lift!! Having Kermit during Lonely Weekend made me laugh so much. Then all of the B Stage material just had my soul ascending. I had thought The Architect was going to wreck me but it was Follow Your Arrow. I was surprised by how much Golden Hour material there was and only Justified from star-crossed. Her songs throughout her career have always meant so much to me. Also huge shout-out to Julia for being my friend and being down to go to this! I love you, Julia! We had bonded over how Deeper Well, the song, had stirred our souls. Right song, right time. This song gave me the strength to leave my band of 10+ years because I was no longer getting anything out of it. I have harkened it to a John Prine song and that's what I've always loved about Kacey, her ability to build on the past and the tradition of country music. What a special weekend. I regret not seeing Kacey sooner. Forever, My Queen. I ended this viewing like I ended that show, sobbing over Rainbow, and the belief that it will all be alright.

Rejuvenating my long buried love of country music by remembering I can just listen to female artists and not subject myself to men who have nothing interesting to sing about
#lainey wilson#my beloved#kacey musgraves#went to her concert in GR a couple weeks ago and it was fucking great#remembered that I obsessively listened to my mother’s Sara Evans CD that I nearly wore it out#it’s also like really funny that I started writing a new fic and a good chunk of its soundtrack will be lainey wilson

im not gonna lie guys it's ok to smoke weed at an indoor concert sometimes. it just depends on the artist. you can't expect to go to a kacey musgraves concert and not smell weed for instance. if you have more realistic expectations you will find happiness more easily

nine albums that got me through 2024

thank you so much for the tag @thyme-in-a-bubble 🖤
in no particular order-
deeper well - kacey musgraves
-deeper well was like my anthem last year. a lot of growing, a lot of letting shit go, & a lot of letting people go that weren’t good for me. I actually got to go to this tour this year & it was LIFE CHANGING
the tortured poets department: the anthology - taylor swift
-I don’t think this one needs an explanation lmao. this album made me realize I’ve never gotten over anything in my life & that’s okay. I actually got to go to the black dog in london back in november & the brews were 10/10 & I did miss blondie while I was there
rumors- fleetwood mac
-I also got to see stevie nicks in concert last year & I thought I was gonna pass away. that woman is a literal witch bc I was ENTRANCED. she still sounds exactly the same & is still breathtaking. I literally bawled like a baby hearing landslide live
take me back to eden- sleep token
-this was a big concert year for me, bc I also got to see them live. they’re one of my all time favorite bands. also vessel is literally a sorcerer bc it started raining during rain
inside- bo burnham
-2024 was a rough year for me, & I found myself playing this album a lot for a multitude of reasons, but especially after the election 🙃
megan- megan thee stallion
-I fucking LOVE megan the stallion. the cobra remix with spiritbox literally altered my brain chemistry. I want a whole album of that. my mood instantly improves as soon as one of her songs comes on. I listen to her music a lot when I lift weights 💪🏻
the rise and fall of a midwest princess- chappell roan
-don’t ask me how many times I listened to my kink is karma & redwine supernova (casual was up there too & good luck babe & basically the whole album)
short n’ sweet- sabrina carpenter
-I couldn’t stay away from this freaky lil polly pocket & I do love espresso
the great impersonator- halsey
-halsey is my absolute favorite artist, & every time she puts out an album, it punches me right in the chest. I love all the blends of genres & styles on this one. this album didn’t get nearly any of the credit it deserved
no pressure tags: @itwasthereaminuteago @phoenixe3 @sunflowersandsapphires @realfernmayo @desert-fern @hellskitchens-whore @pleasurebuttonwrites @quakeismyhero & anyone else that would like to join!

Hi Gina,
I have a question about Larry. I know this has been a difficult day, so it's completely fine if you don't feel like answering right now.
Is Harry singing "You're Still The One" at Coachella considered proof that they’re still together (at least in 2022)?
I ask because Harry sang the same song in 2019, and it was speculated that Louis was at that concert. Also, was that debunked?
Thanks for answer, Gina!
Hi darling. I don’t think you can call it “proof” because we don’t know without a doubt why H sang the song. But over the many many times he’s brought it up it seems very likely it connects to Louis. And then he played it with Kacey Musgraves (and told her it had to be that song if they were doing a duet and smirked as she changed the lyrics to “they’re still together, still going strong”).
As far as I know, it hasn’t been debunked that Louis was at that MSG show in 2018.
And then Harry played it again at Coachella in 2022.
STILL THE ONE

on repeat [rewind] tag game
Rules: Shuffle your 'on repeat' playlist and post the 10 first tracks, then tag 10 friends to do the same.
tagged by the wonderful @iphyslitterator, thank you! I did this one recently and my on repeat hasn't changed much but, seeing as I will never pass up a chance to share my impeccable taste in music, I'm doing it anyway, just using my repeat rewind list instead (and lo and behold, it's still half songs from my bucktommy breakup mix)
-
La da da by Glitterfox the bass line and overall build up in this scratches my brain in the best way
San Andreas by Louise Burns idk anyone who knows louise burns but she's such an underappreciated gem. just. impeccable vibes.
Hard On Equipment (Tool For The Job) by Corb Lund he ain't never read a manual 'cause that's like cheatin' / he don't mind a little grease on his hands while he's eatin' / he's got busted up knuckles, his thumb got bruised / jesus christ! / was a carpenter, too <- corb lund is a goddamn lyrical genius and this song is so fucking funny
Balaclava Kiss by Vision Video that good goth resistance music, yeah babeeey. this whole album is amazing. the band is good people. the frontman releases a pinup calendar every year. what more could you ask for.
Get Better by Frank Turner they threw me a whirlwind and I spat back the sea / I took a battering but I've got thicker skin / and the best people I know looking out for me <- I love angry stubborn optimism. just like. thriving out of spite, yeah?
Obsession by Joywave the song that inspired me to make an adhd-vibes playlist. and it fucking slaps.
Wanna Be Loved by The Red Clay Strays they say that faith can move a mountain, but I'm built for the climb / so tell me, am I faithful or just too stubborn? / tell me, what will I find? / can you tell me I'm worthy or important / am I working hard enough? / I just wanna be loved <- such an evan buckley song to me
Built to Break by Glitterfox another bucktommy breakup song whoops
Modern Horror by Vision Video anticapitalist goth bop. great for singing along to in tiny dark concert venues.
if this was a movie.. by Kacey Musgraves 1. love kacey musgraves and 2. top tier bucktommy breakup song
-
not tagging bc I have no clue who has or hasn't done this but if ya wanna be tagged consider yourself tagged (or tell me and I'll tag you)
#I feel like this sums up my taste in music pretty well lol#just missing some obscure atmospheric black metal#and some folk tunes maybe#tag game#music

so, i want to get into nickel creek, where do i start?
a comprehensive guide / masterlist by desire mona :-)

so ive gotten like. probably 3 or so asks about this + i need a pinned post for the nickel creek community so im making this. keep in mind that i am still a relatively new fan so i definitely dont have the seasoned advice that someone who's been listening for a while would have.
more info under cut!
lets start with the basics -
who is nickel creek?
nickel creek is a 3 piece bluegrass band from california made up of chris thile on mandolin, sara watkins on fiddle, and sean watkins on guitar. all 3 members are vocalists and sing lead vocals on various songs, but youll most likely hear chris on main vocals in a majority of their songs. though they are categorised as bluegrass / folk, their music delves into sounds from a variety of different genres, so a general acoustic label would probably be more fitting. they were originally known as "the nickel creek band" starting in 1989, but they dropped the "the" and "band" in uhhhhhhhh... some time before 2000.
what should i listen to first?
thats honestly up to you, i think anywhere is a good place to start since literally everything they make is good, but i can give u some kick off points so u can know whether or not u like them the quickest i suppose. i was introduced to them at a pretty young age, and the 2 songs that i remembered after years of not hearing them were the lighthouse's tale and this side.
lighthouse's tale - youtube, spotify, apple music
this side - youtube, spotify, apple music
after deciding that i should fully commit to the creek, i started with the tiny desk. i was BLOWN away by how kickass their live vocals were. i went thru and i listened to their albums one by one after that, but i'll have a list of all the albums later on.
"ummmm mona that's too many fucking buttons!!"
ok FINE here's two much easier ways but i think the way i did it was best. whatever.
both my father and my fellow creeker coworker discovered them from their best of album released just after they began their hiatus from 2007-2014. that was a good starting point to go through and listen to the rest, but beware that there are two (very good) albums that came out after this was released.
reasons why: the very best - youtube, spotify, apple music
OR i'll be extra nice and make a spotify playlist for you that i'll eventually make a youtube playlist as well (but not apple music im not paying for that shit <3)
(DO NOT LISTEN ON SHUFFLE - IT IS IN INTENDED ORDER)
every nickel creek album (even the baby ones)
*im doing my best to link physical copies from their official merch site, but some vinyls havent been reissued. if theyre not sold then ive linked the amazon page, but if theyre just sold out then ive linked the merch page anyway. physical copies linked are cds and vinyls respectively, sorry tape users.
little cowpoke (1993) - internet archive, cd
here to there (1997) - youtube and theres a cd but its over $100 so
nickel creek (2000) - youtube, spotify, apple music, physical copies (cd on official merch site is sold out as of 10/2/24)
this side (2002) - youtube, spotify, apple music, physical copies
why should the fire die? (2005) - youtube, spotify, apple music, physical copies
a dotted line (2014) - youtube, spotify, apple music, physical copies (no dotted line physical copies on the merch site, sorry!!)
celebrants (2023) - youtube, spotify, apple music, physical copies
ok fine i like these guys, what can i watch?
OH IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED!! here are my favs, you can do some exploring on your own as well!
their music videos
celebrants music videos (these are live performances)
2002 live @ aol sessions
2000 acoustic innovators documentary
toxic cover
studio session @ the current + interview
cmt's on the verge
new haven 2024 concert
kill bill cover w/ kacey musgraves
ok but what else have they done?
well all 3 members have their own solo careers, as well as separate bands and projects that theyve done. i wont be linking anything for this section, so you're just gonna have to do some digging for yourself.
chris thile:
solo career
unbelievable amounts of collaborations, too many to list
punch brothers
mutual admiration society
live from here
probably other shit, chris is kinda everywhere
sara watkins:
solo career
watkins family hour
im with her
mutual admiration society
sean watkins:
solo career
watkins family hour
fiction family
works progress administration
mutual admiration society
in conclusion + notes

Top 10 Albums
I have to only choose ten holy shittttt. Thanks for the tag gorgeous @milkywayes
Rules: List your top 10 favorite albums, and (if you want) include a brief description for why each one made it onto the list. Then, tag 10 (or however many you want, really) others to do the same.
I tag: @shepsfishtank @that-wildwolf @dynamitegun @mostmagical
My 10 Favorite Albums:
Golden Hour- Kacey Musgraves I'm not even a huge country person but this is filled with nothing but no skip bangers
2. You Don't Mess Around With Jim- Jim Croce My favorite artist of all time, Time in a Bottle fills me with more emotion that any other song I've ever heard in my entire life
3. x Infinity by Watsky This was the first album I ever consciously listened to front-to-back, and still to this day it's a religious experience
4. Rumours- Fleetwood Mac Might be a basic choice, but I am basic.
5. Deju Vu- Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young I grew up on a lot of older folk music, and this album is the absolute peak top of that genre
6. Black Pumas- Black Pumas This was the first vinyl I bought with my own money on a whim after seeing them on the Grammys, still my favorite album when I want to impress people with my music taste.
7. Evermore- Taylor Swift Another basic choice for a basic girl
8. Greenlights- Lorde Listen I was a teenager for peak Lorde, I think this was the greatest album for my teenage years
9. I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it- The 1975 Again, 2010s teen here, absolutely formative. Still the best concert I ever saw (or didn't, seeing as I was blackout drunk for the entire thing)
10. Everyone Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We- The Cranberries The CRANK THAT SHIT album I listen to when I need to clean my entire apartment
HONORABLE MENTION: The Shrek 2 soundtrack I bought from Half Priced Books for $1.50 in 2007 that went platinum in my mom's minivan
