Bonsai Hermit Crab - 491 Pieces
I might have a problem. Can you blame me though crabs are freaking awesome! The bonsai tree is a very special set to me, it's the first set I bought myself and had an absolute blast building it. Unfortunately this will be the last Crab for a bit since I'm trying to build based on ones I actually have, so once I'll get another botanical I'll make another crab!

I've been building way too many constraction figure so about a month ago I made this little diorama. Originally I wanted to add a signpost as well but there weren't any printed tiles that matched with the rest of the build. This build contains 296 pieces and the minifigure is kinda rushed and I was inspired to make this by the tree in this video.

20240222: the History of LEGO Castle day 053. 1590-1 / 1596-1 Ghostly Hideout (1993, 37 pieces, 22 different parts) The Ghostly Hideout is the last of the Wolfpack sets. Built on two green 2x10 plate, almost all of the buildable parts are black except the dark gray "Large Ugly Rock Part" (LURP) 3x8x7 triangular rock panel. The set also includes two large leaves and a dark gray parrot. The rock and the black bricks and panel create a space where the glow-in-the-dark ghost can be either hidden or moved into the visible space via a sliding panel on the bottom. The two minifigures for this set include a glow-in-the-dark ghost and a Wolfpack person with a brown torso and brown arms with a silver wolfhead on a black triangular pattern with a red border, black legs with a red belt, a red plastic cape, and a yellow minifigure head with black bangs, beard stubble, and a patch over one eye with a black hood. The Wolfpack member has a dark gray sword and a triangular shield with a silver wolf head on a black background with a red border. The Wolfpack shield is only found in four other sets (6038-1 Wolfpack Renegades, 6075-1 Wolfpack Tower, 5059-1 Castle Equipment, and 6105-1 Medieval Knights). This is a really fun little build and the sliding platform with the ghost is very entertaining :) This set was included in a 1993 Castle 3-Pack alongside 1547-1 Black Knight's Boat and 1624-1 King's Archer. Parts inventory for this set can be found on BrickLink or Rebrickable and a free download of the instructions can be found on ToysPeriod.

During a long-running, long-overlooked section of LEGO history, the brand ran the Belville theme with small plastic dolls larger than minifigures...and inadvertently created one of the most articulated, most displayable small doll/figurine toys I've ever encountered. And LEGO simply did not sem to realize this. These dolls connect to LEGO studs for standing display, and can hold most anything a classic minifigure can, with the elegance of the LEGO system making their potential for accessories limitless while their posing makes them display naturally with them. Read more about this bafflingly impressive figure engineering and the context of Belville in the controversial annals of "girl LEGO" here.

Most straight relationships in media: “Even though there's no development and no chemistry and we don't look like we love each other that much we'll date because we're straight and that's what we're supposed to do. Right??”
Most queer relationships in media: “If saving you is a sin, I'll gladly become a sinner.” — “Dying together also included a ‘together’.” — “You changed my destiny from the moment we touched.” — “I would know him in death, at the end of the world.” — “The hero and the warrior were like the sun and the moon...”

Chrysanthemum Hermit Crab - 247 Pieces
Around January or February I bought the Chrysanthemum botanical set and after finishing it my mom said something around the lines of "Well you couldn't make anything else out of this." so me being kinda petty, decide that the only natural course of events was to force carcinization onto this flower. I originally had a different body design but I really didn't like it, so one day I just redesigned it completely in about 2 hours. Instructions will come out eventually.

Lego Magnemite -103 pieces
I just built this little guy, because I got inspire by this video. Originally I was working on another build but then it hit me that those qaurter dome pieces would be great to build a Magnemite with. The magnets are a little too big but the only other piece with a similar curve is too small.

20240216: the History of LEGO Castle day 047. 6009-1 Black Knight (1992, 24 pieces, 11 different parts) The Black Knight is a very small set with limited buildable pieces, as it's just the knight on a black horse with a brand new, two-clip red saddle. Buildable parts of this set include a small brick built armor stand with a lance with a red flag. The minifigure has a black torso with black arms and the printed silver breastplate with black legs with a red belt. The knight has dark gray armor, a dark gray helmet with a black visor, and the brand new dragon plumes, which in this set is red, and includes the large dragon top, and "wings" for each side. This set also introduces the ovoid shield, in this case a blue dragon with red wings on a yellow background with a blue border. The newest minifigure part, and the thing which forever changed the direction of LEGO castle, is the introduction of the printed minifigure head, as this is a yellow head with a printed red mustache and goatee. Though the black bangs and red lipstick "female" head was produced in 6071-1 Forestmen's River Crossing and 6081-1 King's Mountain Fortress, those were only one isolated minifigure face in two different sets. From this point forward, almost all minifigure heads are printed with facial characteristics outside of the "standard smiley face", and in the castle theme, that means no more gender ambiguity. This was the last LEGO set I purchased FOR DECADES. Not just the last castle set, but the last set in general that I purchased until about 2012. Keep in mind, back in 1992, there really wasn't any way to get other parts or switch out things you didn't like. The internet existed but wasn't as easy to use as it is today and BrickLink didn't even exist until 2000 (then BrickBay, designed and built by Dan Jezek) and the LEGO Group didn't purchase BrickLink until late 2019. The LEGO pick-a-brick wall only existed in physical stores and those were not as common as they are today and ordering specific parts wasn't nearly as easy as it is today. All that to say that my favorite childhood toy no longer produced a product I felt comfortable buying and playing with, as there was no financially feasible way for young me to change out the all-scruffy facial hair for gender non-specific minifigures. Now. This set has a LOT of cool knight accessories. The armor, the helmet, the dragon shield, and the dragon plumes are all very cool. And now I've been able to find many of the dragon plumes and shields "in the wild" and purchased a bunch of helmets, so I can make my knights however I want, and so those elements are incorporated into my current builds. But back then? Young me was devastated. Parts inventory for this set can be found at BrickLink or Rebrickable and a free download of the instructions is available at ToysPeriod.
