I know we hate the idea that old men die sometimes on this app but let's take a second to ponder the reaction to Stanley Pines' ACTUAL death.

Stan became a beloved figure in Gravity Falls—Mr. Mystery, the almost-mayor, the guy willing to bet on red and then mysteriously win when it lands on black. Yeah, some of that was under false pretenses, but his false pretenses were better than, say, Gideon Gleeful. He has direct proof of his goodness as a man and he wears it like a fucking badge of honor around the kids.

It's only sensible that every resident of Gravity Falls that knew him—even in passing—would drive out for the funeral.

And Ford sees this, dead set in his grief and he's... not shocked, maybe ashamed? That he couldn't bring his brother the community he brought Ford so Stan befriends (loosely used befriend here) the entire town as Ford. And that.. eases him somehow. Knowing that even 5, 10, 15 years after the portal closed he still had people. He'd had Dipper and Mabel and Soos, but he truly had people.

Yeah, his bad habits may have gotten him in the end, but he was hardly robbed of anything. He lived the life he wanted to live and he accomplished what he wanted to accomplish.

Stanley Pines died twice in his life.

To the government, cold and alone and in a ditch.

And to his family, in a warm hospice bed with the brothers he missed and the greatest grandniece and nephew he could ever have asked for.
