So, considering what's going on with Riot right now, do you think Arcane Season 2 got caught up in all of this restructuring?
Yes and no. Arcane season 2 is part of the reason for the restructuring.
As I understand it, internally at Riot, after Arcane was a huge (and more importantly: prestigious!) success, the decision was made to basically hand the entirety of the game's lore and story over to the Entertainment division within Riot. These are the people in large part responsible for projects like Arcane, K/DA, Heartsteel, that animated series China got, all that sort of thing.
The writers at Riot were basically told to flat out stop producing new content and lore for the game - that's why there's BEEN no new story content for League for over a year - because everything was going to be consolidated under the Entertainment division from now on. This is why Riot started talking about "One Runeterra" and "Arcane is going to be canon" and so on.
The success of Arcane convinced executives that what League of Legends needs is a singular cohesive brand with its most successful public property leading the charge, Arcane is going to be the gateway drug, the hook on the end of the line that brings new players and new paying customers into the exciting world of the League of Legends multimedia IP universe!
Nevermind that Arcane's story and worldbuilding is fundamentally incompatible with >checks notes< the overwhelming majority of Runeterra as it exists and enormous compromises would have to be made to either the world of Runeterra or Arcane itself to make it work. Arcane is the big shiny prestigious mainstream Emmy-award winning project that every executive wants to put their name next to, and like companies Pivoting To Video in 2015 because Facebook showed them inflated viewership stats, Riot Games is Pivoting To Arcane. It's better than them pivoting to crypto and NFTs, at least, although I know for a fact that high ranking people at Riot tried to make that happen too.
Now, the primary cause for all of these games industry layoffs is that interest rates aren't zero anymore. Borrowing money isn't free, the curve of constant growth has ever so slightly slowed, taking on debt is becoming a little tiny bit more risky than it was previously, and corporations are responding to this with massive rounds of layoffs and constriction to show "financial responsibility" and prove to shareholders that they are prioritizing core growth strategies and blah blah blah etc. They're also trying to kneecap the growing labor movement in the games industry and exert downwards pressure on wages, but the interest rates seem to have been the main thing.
In Riot's particular case, a secondary reason is they want to pivot the focus of the company to support their One Runeterra pipe dream, so a lot of the people who got fired at Riot are writers, artists, creative leads and sometimes extremely senior and successful staff who are now surplus to requirements. This is also why Riot shut down Riot Forge in the same round of layoffs - can't have a bunch of talented indie devs going off making video games that don't adhere to the new One Runeterra policy. What if someone played Mageseeker and got confused how there can be mages all over Demacia but somehow there are no mages in Arcane's Piltover and Zaun. That's a plot hole! People write snarky articles about that sort of thing. It turns off new consumers! What if Cinema Sins makes a video making fun of it?!?
So yeah. A bunch of cocaine-addled fame hungry executive vultures at Riot are absolutely gagging on their own d*cks to put their name next to Arcane related projects, and since they were going to be screwing hundreds of people out of their careers, healthcare, and in some cases their fucking visa status anyway, it seems to have presented a nice opportunity to clear the board for their latest Visionary Scheme for the company IP.
That is as I understand the situation, anyway. I'm a bitter old man and most of what I hear is second hand and anonymous gossip through my social networks, take what I say with a grain of salt, but I've followed this company for (oh god) twelve years now and I have developed a tragically keen understanding of how its executive class operates.

So to sum up WotC's latest fuckup concerning their new giant themed book
Back during the creator's summit, WotC said this about LLM images

Now more recently, WotC was caught using blatantly LLM images for their new book, along with some category 10 classical Gygax racism and genocide endorsement
As outraged fans investigated, similarities were noticed between earlier concept art, which WAS done by real artists, and the LLM images

Now April Prime was only credited as a concept artist in the book (and not credited at all in that post), so what happened?
Enter Ilya Shkipin: an NFT shill, LLM enthusiast and overall waste of flesh. Ilya took credit for these LLM images, which as you've probably guessed now, were concept art that he stole from concept artists like April, ran through his plagiarism bots and claimed was his own work.
Now, you would think that WotC would admit their error and drop Ilya for this blatant theft of art and credit
And you'd be wrong
WotC not only refused to name or punish Ilya, but they're continuing to work with him and simply having him redo the LLM images he turned in for future printings of the book.
Sounds horrible enough? Here's the bonus round: CATEGORY 10 CLASSIC GYGAX RACISM AND GENOCIDE ENDORSEMENT

Yes, that is a group of people being referred to as an "infestation" to be exterminated. And you have to make sure you ethically put them all to the sword, lest they rise as an icy mummy called a Frostmourn. If the name Frostmourn sounds familiar, that's because it's one letter off from the World of Warcraft sword: Frostmourne. A difference small enough for ActiBlizzard, one of the few game companies worse than WotC at this point, to turn angry copyright lawyers loose in their direction.
And that about sums the whole clusterfuck up. Remember to drop 5e and pick up a ttrpg that doesn't suck, such as Pathfinder, Savage Worlds or Fate: Core

Man, the shift in tone between Originium Dust and Lucent Arrowhead is pretty fucking wild, and I think it's best characterised by the emotional catharsis of the protagonists of either event - Ash and Ela.
I'm going to elaborate below the cutoff in case someone sees this and hasn't finished reading Lucent Arrowhead yet.
Originium Dust is much beloved for the insight into the life of the Infected, the little and least wanted people on Terra, and especially how they die and why Infection is so feared. It is not a happy story, not even remotely. It is not funny and is as straight as a lance at the end of which is taped the message "NOTHING, NOT EVEN ROCK CANCER, JUSTIFIES BRUTALITY AND ABUSE AGAINST THOSE WHO CANNOT DEFEND THEMSELVES".
It is an isekai story where a bunch of serious, professional military operators from their world's most distinguished pan-national special forces coalition are displaced in space and time and must reckon with life in a new world where much of the mores they took for granted are cast aside in the name of expediency (because goddamn Terrans treat the Infected so much worse than the world treats people with chronic and terminal illness and disability).
Lucent Arrowhead, in comparison, is much more of a fun story. It has jokes, like the way Mateo is a completely incompetent buffoon, Doc having a breakdown at people mispronouncing croissant, or - particularly - the NFT scene. It is still about how shitty people are to the infected, but it lacks that singular focus of Originium Dust.
And this really is best exemplified by the conclusion to the arcs of the two protagonists, Ash and Ela.
At the end of Operation Lucent Arrowhead, Ela finally gives in to what she wants to do and delivers a correctional beating to a goddamn idiot and selfish jackass to instill proper morals. She's pretty calm, collected and knows exactly why she's doing this - she's offended at Reynell's selfish stupidity, and wants him to reconsider his life choices.

You can see it in the art. This is the face of someone for whom giving someone a morals-improving beating is not too far out of the ordinary, someone who is making a deliberate, conscious choice. Someone whose story did not push her anywhere near a breaking point.
You can probably guess where I'm going.
Because the counterpoint to that CG - which is clearly and delibeately evoking the comparison to what happened at the end of Originium Dust - is Ash's breakdown.

Every single bit of this CG is drawn to make it clear that this is someone at wit's end, someone who hit their breaking point and whose reaction to witnessing personally and upfront some of the vilest, most horrible cruelty towards the least deserving man she has met in this new world was to start punching and keep going until literally pulled off of her target by her friends. The blood, the facial expression, the glasses, everything is meant to make it clear that this is someone thrown completely off balance, and it works.
Because Originium Dust isn't trying to be funny, it's not trying to make jokes, it's simply making abundantly clear what happens to the least and weakest. Originium Dust released (on CN) in March 2021, height of the lockdowns, half a year after Chapter 8, back when this game was still about the plight of the Infected rather than the latest iteration of Something Is Bad In Victoria. It wanted to make an important point and didn't let anything - levity or otherwise - intrude on that.
I think Lucent Arrowhead is an OK event. But Originium Dust was better, in significant part because it pushed its cast so much harder into Terra and its horrible no good very bad realities, because it made its protagonist lose her cool at the crushing injustice of it all.

Learning that Will Wright's latest project was a NFT mobile game destroyed me. It's like learning that Martin Scorsese is directing diet yogurth commercials.

Self-driving car technology is progressing as well. Autonomous features like lane assist, adaptive cruise control, and automated parking are common. Ride-sharing companies are also piloting robo-taxis in urban centers.
Beyond cars, smart transportation includes connected bicycles, e-scooters, and drones. These innovations contribute to cleaner cities and more efficient travel.
Public transit is also getting smarter with real-time tracking, predictive maintenance, and eco-friendly buses. Together, these trends create a more sustainable and intelligent transportation ecosystem.

For years, a Chinese-language market for crypto scammers and money launderers—by some measures, the internet's biggest black market of all time—operated in plain sight on the messaging service Telegram, facilitating tens of billions of dollars in illicit finance. Now, thanks to the scrutiny of one team of crypto crime researchers and Telegram's ban hammer, it's gone.
Haowang Guarantee, the crypto-fueled crime bazaar more widely known by its original name, Huione Guarantee, declared in an announcement posted to its website sometime in the last 24 hours that it would be shutting down. The move comes in response to Telegram's action on Monday to ban thousands of accounts and usernames that served as the infrastructure for the sprawling marketplace of third-party vendors, many of whom provided money laundering and other services to the burgeoning industry of East Asian crypto scammers.
“Telegrame were blocked all of our NFT, Channels and group on May 13th 2025, Haowang Grarantee will cease operation from now,” the company wrote on its website in a short, typo-ridden statement in English, apparently using the acronym NFT to refer to the blockchain-based non-fungible tokens that serve as proof of ownership for certain Telegram usernames. “Thank you for your attention.”
Prior to its abrupt shutdown, Haowang Guarantee—which despite its rebrand was still partially owned by Huione Guarantee and its Cambodia-based parent company Huione Group—had allowed third-party vendors to sell a wide variety of services to crypto scammers, all via Telegram, using deposit and escrow systems to “guarantee” the transactions. Huione Guarantee merchants primarily offered money laundering via the cryptocurrency Tether, but they also sold other components of the crypto scam industry, ranging from potential victim data for targeting, telecommunications infrastructure, deepfake software, and even GPS-enabled collars and electric batons used to enslave workers in the scam compounds that have spread across Myanmar, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
Telegram's sudden move to ban the marketplace's accounts appears to have been spurred by WIRED's inquiry to Telegram late last week about new findings from researchers at the crypto-tracing firm Elliptic. Since July of last year, Elliptic has highlighted the enormous volume of money laundering and other illicit transactions taking place on Huione Guarantee and later Haowang Guarantee. By Elliptic's accounting in a January report, the market and its rebrand had facilitated more than $24 billion in total transactions, which would make it by far the largest single black market operation in the internet's history. That figure has since jumped to $27 billion, according to Elliptic.
Elliptic's latest findings concerned a second Telegram-based market known as Xinbi Guarantee, which offered a similar model of third-party transactions and had facilitated $8.4 billion in deals since 2022 that researchers say included not only money laundering for scammers, but also stolen data, harassment for hire, and apparent sex trafficking. When WIRED asked Telegram about Elliptic's findings regarding both markets, the company responded with broad bans of Xinbi Guarantee and Haowang Guarantee accounts.
“This is a huge win. The largest dark-net marketplace to have ever existed has been shut down,” says Elliptic cofounder Tom Robinson. “It's a game changer in terms of overall online criminal markets, and it's huge for victims of online fraud. This marketplace was a key enabler of the global scam epidemic, and I think this will put a real dent in the ability of online scammers to do what they do.”
In a statement sent to WIRED Monday, Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn wrote that “communities previously reported to us by WIRED or included in reports published by Elliptic have all been taken down,” and added that “criminal activities like scamming or money laundering are forbidden by Telegram's terms of service and are always removed whenever discovered.” Telegram declined to comment further following Haowang's announcement that it was going offline.
Although it wasn't mentioned in Vaughn's statement, Telegram's ban may have also been related to an announcement earlier this month from the US Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network that Huione Group, Huione Guarantee and Haowang Guarantee's parent company, would be added to a list of known money laundering operations in an attempt to limit its access to US financial institutions.
While Haowang Guarantee responded to Telegram's bans by almost immediately shutting down, Xinbi Guarantee appears to be making an effort to relaunch itself on new Telegram channels, Robinson says. Elliptic says that Haowang Guarantee's owners also own a stake in another similar Telegram-based market called Tudou Guarantee, according to a Telegram post from one of Haowang's administrators, and they may seek to rebuild their business there. Tudou Guarantee has already seen a significant surge in new users, Robinson says.
Whether the two markets succeed in relaunching, Robinson notes, will depend largely on how serious Telegram is about its efforts to prevent them from using its messaging services.
“Are they going to pursue all of these marketplaces and continue to do so as new ones emerge?” Robinson asks. “If so, I think that Telegram is no longer a realistic platform for these marketplaces, and they'll have to look for somewhere else to operate.” He suggests the crypto-scam market operators would then likely try to migrate to another messaging service with less oversight, or even a decentralized one where they can't be effectively banned.
Haowang, in particular, has powerful backing from a company with links to businesses associated with the Cambodian ruling family. Huione Guarantee's parent company, the Cambodian financial conglomerate Huione Group, includes a company linked to the family of Cambodia’s prime minister, Hun Manet. Hun To, the prime minister’s cousin, serves as one of those companies' directors—and has also been linked in an Al Jazeera investigation to an alleged scam compound.
All of that means Telegram's takedowns are by no means the end of the crypto-scam industry, says Robinson. They may, however, represent a serious setback for the markets that cash out its profits and launder its money.
“Online crime is a cat-and-mouse game in general. But these are very large mice,” Robinson says. “It's a big blow to the criminal ecosystem that will take a long time to recover from.”

I got my reasonable Pokemon Day Predictions done. I think I'll make a tradition of making hilariously wrong predictions since I did it last year.
So now, the Pokemon Presents from Hell, 2025 that hopefully has no chance in hell of happening
Ishihara opens by slowly unbuttoning his shirt, staring blankly into the camera with uninterrupted eye contact for 5 minutes. He is clearly not enjoying this, but neither are you.
Home has an "adjustment price update" where everything gets more expensive. Oh but you get a free Mew now. Every time you purchase. Shiny locked. BTW these will take up your freemium box if you forget to pay.
Pokemon Go decides to take up 10 minutes going over their latest addition: Grock, the AI pokemon
Pokemon Masters reveals its first collab: Persona 5 (and thus EOS in a year)
Cafe Remix reveals a horror story of mixing a Sinistcha and Polteageist's juices into a Shuckle and shaking it around. The taste is salty and has a strange odor.
The TCG mobile game now charges you real $500 for a Charizard card
Unite reveals its newest character: Vaporeon. The announcement begins with "Did you know that in terms of-"
Pokemon reveals its latest collaboration partners: Tesla and Twitter
NFTs
ZA is canceled after the teraleaks. Instead, they punish us with Hey You Pikachu and Pokemon Channel ports to NSO.
New anime based on the discarded folk tales found in the teraleaks. Yes. Including the Octillery.
They announce pokemon gen 10, and it is now a live service game akin to Genshin except they only start you with about 20 pokemon, 2 badges, a small handful of moves, and your starters are the Kanto trio. Coming this year, and they started development last october. Expansions will be on sale for $20 per badge.
Detective Pikachu 2: the Ballad of Mr Mime, in which a it is a gritty rise to power movie of DP Mr Mime and Ludicolo coming to power in a style inspired by The Godfather and American Psycho. Directed by Quentin Terantino, with an exciting announcement of a female Cinderace joining the cast, and Quentin himself also being it's trainer and- oh it's canceled
Oh! And one more thing: Taylor Swift song

There's been lots of Pokemon crossover lately. Project Voltage being one of the most well-known ones, using the Vocaloid/Japanese voice synthesizer "Hatsune Miku". So I'm planning to remake my gijinka thing again.
Behold, Beautifly Yumi for my Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gijinka AU! The plot is heavily based from Explorers of Sky's story, but with a few subplots involving various Pokemon (Jirachi recruiting, Wurmple rescue, Suicune search mission, Mewtwo's challenge, etc).

The roles so far:
Skitty: Aelita (Player character/Hero), later evolves into Delcatty, but much later than Riolu/Ulrich
Riolu: Ulrich (Partner), later evolves into Lucario after the Darkrai fight
Beautifly: Yumi (Recruited at Mt. Horn), she was recruited during a monster house mission.
Glameow: Odd (Recruited at Crystal Crossing), this is the only gijinka I didn't plan to evolve bc I had a bit trouble designing Purugly
Jeremy is planned to be a Jolteon and William is planned to be either Houndour or Nidorino.
The ones that are gijinka are the main 6 CL Characters and the Future Pokemon/time travelling trio (Dusknoir, Grovyle, Celebi). I'm not sure about Sissi's gang being the PMD's team skull, but let's see
Later pics are the details about her personality, moveset, etc. (more under the cut)

The moveset is the latest moveset, NOT the one after recruiting. She only learned Absorb, Gust and Stun spore after joining the team at first.
scarf thing is a Vivid Silk, which is an item exclusive to the Wurmple line (in the games it's just written "Beautifly exclusive item) that absorbs rock-type moves as HP, so it's pretty neat.
There are some items like that on the PMD2/Explorers games, but they depend on the Pokemon on your party, and it's usually for a certain evolutionary line. Vivid Silk is for the Wurmple evolution Line, Sun Scarf for Sunkern line (Sun Scarf negates Fire-type moves into HP), etc.
Her fans are used for Silver wind and Aerial ace, her wings are used for gust.
Beautifly Yumi's absorb/mega drain/giga drain is just like Dusknoir's thing here lmao

I think what artists, musicians, writers, pretty much every creative person really, all need to understand is that under capitalism, everything they make is worthless. AI, piracy, whatever, they're all just windmills you're tilting at. Even if by some miracle you did manage to defeat it, it would soon be replaced by some other terrible mechanism which alienates you from your creation, because that's how Capitalism works.
This is just the latest iteration of a process that's been happening for over 500 years now. It's just now instead of enclosing a physical commons for the private profit of aristocrats, oligarchs are enclosing the digital commons. Consolidating the public spaces of forums, message boards, webrings, and other democratically driven online spaces into the few mega-sites of Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, and so on has run its course. Now the capitalists have turned to trawling the rest of the internet to try and wring whatever value they can get from it.
And just like the process of enclosure or mechanization or industrialization, there's no putting that genie back in the bottle. They've already scoured the internet for untold trillions of pages of data and images and what not. The damage is done. It doesn't matter what further damage is going to come from it either, because the dirty not-so-secret of the tech world is that this is it. They have no more bright ideas. Pretty much every great thing to Google's name, they bought. All their in house initiatives failed. Google video? Google groups? Google glass? They make their money selling ads that nobody cares about. Same with Facebook. They just spent billions to create a crappy Second Life clone that no one gives a fuck about. These tech corporations are massive, lumbering, doomed empires, especially now that covid has pretty much brought the era of 0%-interest loans to an end. Without the billions of dollars of venture capital being pumped into Uber and Twitter and all the rest, now they've got to actually start making money, which none of them are actually able to do. Now they're desperate for some new gimmick to latch onto to try and turn a profit or attract ever dwindling venture capital. Bitcoin was the last big scam. Remember Libra? NFTs were the big thing after that. NFT images! NFT tv shows! NFT games! Here we are a year later and no one fucking talks about them any more. AI is just more of this magic bean bullshit.
Aside from all of that, even if AI was managed to be beaten back, you can assume that whatever the cure the powers that be settle on will be worse than the disease. Whatever "protections" get put into place will only be used against individual artists. At the end of the day, these big corps are just going to end up keeping all the information they've already stolen, the algorithms they used to steal it, and then will put laws into place legitimizing that theft after the fact. You're simply not going to win that fight, because the battle's already been lost.
The only long term solution to this is to attack the root cause, which is a system that relies upon exploitation in order to accumulate profit. Profits are what feed these massive corporate beasts, and as they're starved by falling profits, they'll only grow more ravenous and rapacious. We're only at the opening stages of this trend now, and things are only going to get worse.

"the mario and sonic at the olympic games NFT fiasco is just a pr scheme" makes way too much sense and I hate it a lot
It's the only logical explanation I can come up with for this, 'cause I genuinely haven't heard fuck all about NFTs since latest 2022.
