Sly Fox, Dumb Bunny II
Sly Fox, Dumb Bunny II - Eris x Archeron!Reader
Summary: You find yourself ensnared by a sly, cunning fox. A very handsome, irritating one.
Warnings: none
a/n: sorry for the long wait with this one! Hope you guys like it!
Part I
· · ─────── ·♡· ─────── · ·
You slipped into the private library in the House of Wind, humming slightly to yourself. The faint scent of crackling embers and something else indiscernible met your nose as the door slammed shut behind you but you brushed it off, figuring it must've come from the fireplace on the other side of the large room.
You meandered to the section that was filled with romance books—the ones Nesta had made sure to stock up on ever since she became the owner of this place along with Cassian. You brushed your fingers against the spines of the books, pulling out some that had interesting titles and stacking them in your arms.
A Heart Ablaze.
The Prince of Fire.
Your skirt flitted against the tops of your boots as you walked. You bit your lip, pulling out another book. This one titled, The Flames that Bind Us. You’d read it before but it was one of your favorites.
“You should be a bit more aware of your surroundings, bunny. You have no idea what sort of monsters are lurking around.”
You gasped, jumping in fright and dropping your stack of books to place a hand on your chest. You whirled around with a wildly beating heart.
You had recognized the voice immediately but you were still taken aback to see Eris lounging in one of the armchairs by the fireplace. He was sprawled out in the chair like it was his throne, a glass of whiskey in one hand and his other lightly stroking the soft velvet of the armrest. His red hair gleamed the same color as the burning flames behind him.
Your gaze dipped to his chest, to his cream colored tunic that had a few buttons undone, exposing the silver layered jewelry resting against his chest. He wore dark brown breeches, perfectly tailored for his long legs and brown riding boots. How he managed to make such casual clothing look elegant and refined was beyond you.
When you met his eyes again, those devastating amber eyes, Eris gave you a fox-like grin that looked anything but friendly.
“What are you doing here?” you asked as you bent down to pick up the books you had dropped. You held them against your chest like a shield.
“That is no way to address a Lord,” Eris purred.
You huffed, fighting the urge to roll your eyes.
“Apologies, my Lord,” you replied, sarcastically. “What a delight it is to see you again. What brings you to our humble court?”
Eris’s eyebrows rose in amusement.
“If you must know, I’m here for a meeting with your High Lord and Lady,” Eris said. “Pray tell, what are you doing here, bunny?”
His eyes darted to the books in your arms and you blushed, trying to discreetly cover the titles. Eris didn’t need to know your reading preferences.
“If you must know,” you said, mocking him, “I live here.”
You split time between here and the River House. Mostly because Nesta had once accused you of favoring Feyre. You hated nothing more than to be used as a pawn against your sisters. But being the youngest, your role in the family oftentimes required you playing mediator between your siblings. Sometimes, messenger too.
“Poor little bunny,” Eris teased. “Locked up here in a cage.”
“Stop calling me that!”
You glared at the handsome Lord, hating the way that made him seem even more amused.
Eris said nothing, just twirled the glass in his hands as his eyes assessed you. You felt the hairs on your arms stand up, felt a chill run down your spine at his look. His smirk never left his face. You were quite sure he had been born wearing it.
“Don’t you normally meet with Rhys and Feyre in Hewn City?” you asked, unable to take the silence. You should probably leave, but something kept your feet glued to the floor.
Eris shrugged. “Sure, when our business involves Keir.”
He spat out the older male’s name with disgust.
“I’m surprised they didn’t order you to stay in your room knowing I was here,” he continued, his amusement back once more. “Can’t let the little bunny be ensnared by a fox again.”
His grin was more of a display of teeth. It did nothing to quell your nerves.
“They never tell me anything,” you murmured, annoyed.
Your lips slammed shut when one of Eris’s eyebrows raised, like you had just unknowingly passed along information you shouldn’t have.
The doors to the library slammed open and you jumped, sucking in a breath at the sudden noise. Azriel stormed in, his eyes narrowed at Eris. You suddenly felt tense, sensing the way the energy seemed to shift in the room. He stopped once he was in front of you, crossing his arms over his broad chest.
“What are you doing here?” he hissed at the redhead. “You’re supposed to be waiting for Rhys and Feyre in the war room.”
Eris didn’t seem frightened in the slightest, unlike most fae did when staring down the shadowsinger.
He plucked a piece of lint from his tunic, unbothered. “Apologies, shadowsinger. I got lost.”
You doubted that and by Azriel’s growl, you realized he did too. He turned to look down at you, his lips pressed in a straight line with a stern look.
“Go,” Azriel barked, nodding his head towards the door. You bristled at the command, as if you were a dog he could order around.
But it was Eris who stood to his full height and snarled, “Don’t speak to her like that.”
Your eyes widened in surprise. You stepped out from around Azriel to see Eris staring down the shadowsinger. You swore the flames in the fireplace grew, the crackling of the wood the only thing breaking the tense silence.
You shifted on your feet, clearing your throat as the temperature rose—Azriel’s shadows growing with it. You placed a hand on Azriel’s shoulder, trying to calm him.
“I’ll leave,” you said softly, glancing up at Eris but his focus was on your hand touching Azriel, a muscle in his jaw ticking.
“It was lovely speaking to you again, my Lord,” you said, sarcastically, bowing your head at Eris. At the sound of your voice, you watched as Eris’s mask slipped right back into place, all the tension leaving his body.
His gaze met yours and he shot you his infamous fox-like grin. “Indeed, Lady.”
Azriel growled, lowly, and that was your sign to leave. You scurried out of the room, ignoring the butterflies in your stomach—the ones that had been there since the moment you laid eyes on the handsome Lord of Fire.
· · ─────── ·♡· ─────── · ·
It had taken a lot of persuasion on your part, but you had finally talked Rhys and Feyre into letting you have more of a role in their court. They had decided to let you shadow Lucien as an emissary, but so far the only place you had gone with him to was the human realm—not that you minded.
You were currently in the deserted manor that Vassa, Jurian and Lucien were now living in since the end of the war. You had just had a meeting and dinner with them, but out of politeness, had offered to clean up which left you in the kitchen alone, scrubbing dishes. You supposed you could’ve used magic, but decided on doing it the only way you knew how: the human way.
“I thought I smelt a bunny in here.”
You let out a squeak of surprise, dropping the plate you were drying back into the filled basin. Water and soap splashed all around you, speckling the smock you wore over your dress and the counter.
You yanked a small hand towel free and began to blot at the water spots as you whirled around to face Eris. The grin he wore only infuriated you even more.
“Must you always sneak up on me?” you grumbled, tossing the towel back on the counter.
“You need to be more aware of your surroundings, bunny,” Eris purred.
“Oh, for Gods’ sake, stop calling me that!”
“Perhaps when it stops to suit you so well.”
“It doesn’t suit me now,” you argued back. “I am not some little bunny.”
“Are you sure about that?” Eris took a step towards you but something about his demeanor made you mirror his step backwards, your backside hitting the counter behind you. His grin sharpened at your movement.
“Are you scared of me, bunny?”
Your cheeks flushed, your heart skipped a beat in your chest.
“N-no,” you stuttered.
He took a step closer, that fox-like grin still on his face.
“Really?” Eris mocked. “You seem quite scared.”
“You tend to have that effect on everybody.”
“Do I?”
You knew he was teasing you, but it didn’t stop your heart from pounding nor did it do anything to quell the butterflies in your stomach. He was close enough now that you had to tilt your head back to look up at him. You had almost forgotten how tall he truly was.
You nodded, losing your voice as he took another step closer.
“And why is that?”
You cleared your throat, your hands finding the edge of the counter behind you so you could brace yourself. “It probably has to do with your reputation.”
“I have a reputation?”
The question sounded more like a joke on his tongue. Eris raised his eyebrows at you in suggestion and you swallowed audibly.
He took another step closer, now easily within reach of you. The hairs on the back of your neck stood up, a small tremble shook your legs. But it wasn’t an unpleasant feeling. It was more like anticipation. But for what? That was the part you couldn’t figure out.
“You know you do,” you said, narrowing your eyes. “You’ve gone to great lengths to make sure of it.”
Something inside of you could see the mask Eris liked to wear. Another step closer and you could feel the heat coming from his body. It seemed to reach out to you, like standing near a warm fire. Your body softened in response.
“You’re right. I have,” Eris cooed. “But I don’t care about everyone. I want to know if you are scared of me.”
He was so close now, only inches away from you, his handsome face looming over you. The sun setting caused a golden hue to stream through the window, making his crimson hair shine like molten metal.
“No,” you whispered, your head now fully tilted up to look at him. “But I think…I think I should be.”
Based on everything you had been told about him, at least.
Eris’s eyes darkened as he gazed down at you. The silence was thick, the tension in your body heightened. You were captive to his stare—to those whiskey amber eyes. Something ached terribly in your chest.
Eris reached out a hand, hooking some of your hair behind a pointed ear. He leaned down, resting his hands on the counter behind you, caging you in. It almost seemed as if he was going to kiss you but instead his mouth landed by your ear.
“You’re right, bunny,” he purred. “You should be.”
A chill ran down your spine as Eris stood back up. He seemed to relish in the way your body had responded to him, his grin turning smug and haughty. You should step away from him. Logically, you knew you should move. But something kept your feet ensnared—just like that day in the library.
His stare held an intensity that made your mouth dry. Something loomed beneath–the weight of all the secrets he seemed to keep. Your eyes were a stark contrast to his. Wide and full of every emotion that ran through you, no deception to be found.
Footsteps coming towards the door to the kitchen broke whatever spell you had been under. In a blink of an eye, Eris was almost on the other side of the room, his back resting against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest.
The doors pushed open and Lucien walked in. He paused on the threshold, his eyes narrowing on his brother before they drifted to you. He looked you up and down, as if he was inspecting you for damage. Seeming content that you were in one piece, he glanced warily at Eris.
He rolled his eyes at his brother’s grin.
“Leave Y/n alone,” Lucien grumbled. “She doesn’t like your little games. Come, you requested a meeting with me. Let’s get this over with so I take her home.”
He nodded his head towards the door before leaving Eris to follow him. Eris gave you one last parting look on his way out. A look that would linger in your mind for the following weeks.
· · ─────── ·♡· ─────── · ·
The Dawn Court was radiant and you couldn’t stop spinning in circles, taking in the opalescent golden stone palace, grand staircases and ornate archways. Morning glories wrapped around pillars, drooping wisterias hung from every railing. It was beautiful, breathtaking. You could hardly believe your eyes.
You smoothed down the skirt of your midnight blue ball gown, feeling slightly out of place amongst all the pretty pastel colors of the Dawn Court. It was the first time you’d been out of the Night Court, besides that slight, accidental trip to Autumn.
Later today, you would be meeting with the rest of the High Lords, as well as Vassa and her court to discuss a peace treaty. Rhys had insisted on bringing you despite Feyre’s hesitation. But he had made the point that the humans might take more kindly to someone familiar, someone who used to be like them.
Nesta had been the first choice, but she and Cassian were still away on their mating vacation. Elain had been set to come today instead of you until Rhys had found out that Lord Nolan and Graysen would be attending the meeting and thus, Elain was spared the uncomfortable reunion and you were put in her place.
Not that you were complaining. You were excited to finally be involved.
The courtier from Dawn led your group to the suite your court would be staying in. It was carved from sunstone, with a lavish sitting area and private dining room—all decorated beautifully with jewel-toned fabrics and cushions stacked along the thick carpet. Bird cages hung from the ceiling in the corner of the room, right next to a large window that overlooked the countryside.
Once the courtier left, Rhys was quick to throw up several wards around the room. “Don’t get too comfortable yet. Eris is slipping by to meet before the official gathering.”
Mor groaned and plopped down on a settee, throwing her arm over her eyes.
“Perhaps you’d like to go rest for a spell in your room, Y/n?” Your sister suggested.
You saw her words for what they were though. They didn’t want you around when Eris came. You might’ve tried to argue against it but decided to not push your luck today. They were already letting you come to the meeting.
You gave her a small nod and disappeared into one of the rooms. Still feeling a bit nauseated from all the winnowing, you laid down on the soft bed and drifted off into a mid afternoon nap.
It only felt like a second had gone by when you eventually woke. You cursed as you looked out the small bay window, seeing the sun far lower than it had been when you had fallen asleep. You rose quickly and smoothed out your hair and dress.
You sat down at a small vanity and touched up your makeup before finally leaving your room, not even checking if they were still in a meeting with Eris or not, not wanting to be late.
Your door creaked open and several heads twisted your way—including a very handsome one with flaming red hair. You blinked in surprise, your cheeks turning a bit pink at the sudden attention.
“My apologies,” you murmured, embarrassed. “I didn’t know we still had company.”
Your eyes darted to your sister, hoping she wasn’t upset with you, but Feyre’s face didn’t falter. Her eyes only softened as she looked at you. “It’s okay, we’re almost done here anyways.”
Eris shot up suddenly, knocking his chair back.
“What is she doing here?” he hissed.
Your eyes widened in shock, taken aback by both his words and his tone. Rhys’s eyebrows raised and Feyre frowned at the redhead.
“What does it matter to you?” Rhys asked, his face carefully blank.
Eris scoffed and straightened out the sleeves of his coat. The frazzled look in his eye flickered away and his perfectly crafted mask was back in place. “It matters little to me. But considering you’ve gone to such lengths keeping her hidden, I’m surprised you’d allow her here knowing who will be at this meeting. My father is going to be displeased to know that you have not three but four Made females residing in your court now. It might make him…less agreeable.”
“You think having her here is going to cause problems with your father?”
“I know having her here is going to cause problems with my father.”
You bristled at the way you were being spoken about as if you weren't standing in the very same room as them.
“Why should we care about your father’s feelings on the matter?” Azriel spat out, crossing his arms.
“You want him to sign your little peace treaty, do you not?” Eris sneered at Azriel, his tone full of condescension.
“We also need the humans to agree upon the treaty,” Feyre cut in. “And Y/n has been working with your brother as an emissary to gain their trust. Since Lucien cannot be here, it is vital that she is present at this meeting.”
“You're delusional if you think it’s going to be harder to get the humans to sign the treaty than my father,” Eris said in that haughty tone of his. “He still thinks about that kernel of power you took from him. Power is all that matters to him and having all four made sisters in your court is going to be an issue in his eyes.”
“We have other ways to entice your father,” Rhys said with a shrug.
You were still taken aback, unable to even form words to leave your mouth. You hadn’t been aware that your presence would cause such drama. You were nothing. No one. Just another Archeron sister. You didn’t even have powers outside the normal High Fae ones, like summoning things and winnowing.
You didn’t miss the blink of fear that passed through Eris’s eyes, but no one else seemed to catch it. He still stood, his palms now pressed against the table separating him from the rest of your court.
“Why is it that no one knows about her, anyways?” he asked. “Why is it that all reports only mention the other two sisters being put in the Cauldron and not Y/n?”
A shiver ran down your spine at the sound of your name on his lips. But whatever feeling that was passed as a memory of that horrid day came at the reminder of the Cauldron.
“Put the little one in first,” the King of Hybern ordered, smugly, as he kept eye contact with Feyre. She was pleading with him to let you go. Pleading and begging with her own life. You knew why he chose you to go in first. He knew that it would cause Feyre more grief, more stress.
The feeling of hands all over you as you fought against your binds. Hands that were dragging you closer and closer to the huge Cauldron that sat in the middle of the room. You were screaming through your gag. Tears were streaming down your face.
You could even hear your sister’s ex lover demanding the King put a stop to this.
“She is just a girl, a child,” someone in the room hissed. “Stop this!”
And you supposed you were—especially to the fae. You were almost seventeen, your birthday falling on the Autumn equinox, when both day and night were equal lengths. It was all you kept thinking about as you were dragged to the Cauldron.
Four months.
Four months until Autumn.
And then you had been pushed underneath the dark water and your humanity had been stripped away from you.
Your heart was pounding at the thought of that day, of everything that had happened afterwards. Eris’s eyes flickered to you for a moment and you got the sense that he almost knew where your mind had drifted. Feyre gave you a look of concern.
It struck you now that it had been three years since that day.
Three years.
Three years since your life had been forever changed.
“Your contacts must not be very good at their jobs,” Rhys said in answer to Eris’s question. But you were also pondering it. Why is it that most of Prythian did not know of your existence? Why is it that the reports of that day only ever mention Nesta and Elain?
Eris didn’t look like he believed Rhysand either.
“Fine, whatever, I don’t have time to argue with you. My father is expecting me back any moment now,” Eris finally said, standing to his full height. His gaze drifted to you for a second before he glared down at Rhys.
“Send her away,” he spoke through his teeth and then he winnowed away, leaving only crackling embers in his wake.

Layers of Hell
For Deadboyween Day 10 - Hell, I decided to try and pick out some extra details from hell, from a combination of what we can see of Edwin's notes in the show, what we see on screen and cross-referencing information on Dante's Inferno which it is based on.
0. Vestibule Edwin's notes: Endless staircase
Limbo Edwin's notes: Do Not Ring
2. Lust No written notes from Edwin here just a floorplan, I wonder if the Xs are doors that go nowhere or doors that don't lead out of Lust
3. Gluttony Edwin's notes: written notes on the floorplan show the way to level II (Lust), the way "Back to Doll House NO." and the way to Avarice with text "Wrong Way. AVARICE. Everything too heavy."
3.a. The Doll House I'm including the Doll House inside Gluttony since that's the level it seems to be connected to based on the floorplan, though that seems to have been via tearing a hole through the wall so there should be another proper connection somewhere, based on that and Edwin saying that the babydoll spider would need to find another way through, and it did. It's also interesting to note that Charles sees a couple of misery wraiths hanging out around a door which matches the design of the door into Simon's punishment room, though this scene takes place after Simon has moved on so it is unlikely they were drawn to him specifically, possibly these rooms hold other punishments for other people as well? We only get a very quick glimpse of Edwin's notes on the doll house while Charles is looking at the ripped section of the Gluttony page but what we can see shows a partial maze with some areas crossed out, a question mark in one area and couple of places just labelled "No." There are also drawings of the gates that are found in the doll house, notably these match the design of the gates that seem to lead into the area the babydoll spider drags Edwin to, presumably it's lair. Edwin's notes: No. ___(Bolt?) the gate
3.b. Simon's punishment room I'm including this here because Edwin found his way into here from the Doll House. One of the most interesting things about this room in terms of hell itself is that it shows that: a. The blue light can come for souls in hell b. The endless' realms can connect here (I wonder if Desire looks in on the Lust and Avarice levels?)
4. Avarice Edwin's notes: Heavy labour, everyone in your way
5. Wrath No notes
6. Heresy No notes
7. Violence Edwin's notes: trapped, impaled, submerged in blood
8. Fraud Edwin's notes: snake pit, regain human form by biting other humans circle I. whipped circle II. covered in excrement circle III. flipped + feet set on fire circle IV. ___(swim?) in hot pitch circle V. head twisted backwards circle VI. weighted clothes circle VII. snake pit turn into snakes circle VIII. ____(wrapped/wreathed?) in big flame circle IX. wounded, disfigure circle X. leprosy, dropsy, ____(rashes?) Interestingly circles 4 and 5 are switched in Edwin's notes as compared to the info I could find on Dante's Inferno, so in Dante's Inferno circle 4 has all their heads twisted backwards and circle 5 has them thrown in boiling hot pitch/tar.
9. Treachery Edwin's notes: frozen + stuck + chewed on
Overall thoughts: Given the lack of notes on Wrath and Heresy, it's likely that Edwin either spent little to no time in these circles or he wrote about it in detail in another page of his notebook (as he did with the doll house). On the other hand given the notes covering all 10 circles of Fraud, he spent enough time there to have seen all 10 of them and has paid particular attention to circle 7 both in his drawings and his side notes. He also has some notes on both Treachery and Violence, which makes me think that he spent some time in Fraud and while trying to escape from there saw the circles either side, just like he has notes on Avarice from trying to escape from Gluttony in that direction.

alie! I absolutely adore this mirrorball x buck set that you made last year! (/post/701462848238403584/) (also I can't believe it's been a year, like seriously what is time?) I was wondering how you did the shattered glass effect in the first gif? in particular how you made the black and white gifs appear distorted within the glass if that makes sense? thank you!!!
ahhh thank you so much renee! literally what is time lol, this gifset is still one of my faves that i made. the shattered glass effect is mostly just a lot of layer masks to be honest hahaha. i'm so glad i still have the psd, so here's how i did it under the cut~
(this tutorial assumes you know how to put multiple gifs in the same canvas and are familiar with layer groups and masks)
I. PREPARATION
first things first, create an empty canvas of your desired size. mine was 540x540 px.
then, you need to find a cracked glass texture. if i remember correctly i simply googled something like "broken glass png", "cracked glass png", because i wanted something already transparent.
(a texture that's something like black lines over a white background definitely works too, you'll just have to put that layer's blending mode to darken or multiply.)
here's the png i used (and a download link for best quality):
and after positioning it into my canvas.
II. CREATING MAIN SECTIONS FOR GIFS
so basically when i did is i sectioned parts of the texture for each gif that i wanted to put. following the texture's lines, i zoomed in and carefuly drew a first shape along the lines with the polygon tool. you can also put a color fill layer behind the cracked glass layer so it's easier to see, like i did.
once you have your shape selected, click on the folder icon (1), then on the layer mask icon (2). it should give you a nice masked group to put gifs in hehe
then i repeated the process until i had all of my desired shapes. i've put some color layers so it's easier to see, but here are my 6 main shapes and how my layer groups look like so far:
III. GIFFING TIME
after screencaping and making all 6 gifs required for each section, you need to put all of them in the same canvas. i simply put one smart object gif layer in each group created earlier. then, i resized and rotated each gif to fit its group (by hitting ctrl + T while selecting the gif layer), as you can see with the gif labeled 6x02 in the layers preview. for the coloring, i went simple with black and white for most of them.
once i have all six gifs sharpened, colored, and placed in each shape group, the gif looks like this. the broken glass texture does most of the work to be honest:
obviously the center gif doesn't have any kind of effect, it's just colored as usual, so i'm not gonna go over it. it's just one gif layer in a masked group.
IV. SUBSECTIONS FOR DISRTORTED EFFECT
okay so for the distorted effect it's even more layer masks! basically i created more smaller sections within each main shapes already, still following the cracked glass texture's lines with the polygon tool and put them in individual masked groups like i did in the second step. here's how i ended up dividing each main sections:
yep, each color here is a different masked group, for example the 2nd and 3rd shape sections:
for each main shape section, you want to duplicate your gif layer the same amount of times as you have subsections within that shape. so if the main shape has 5 smaller subsections, i want 5 layers of that same gif. just make sure to not change its duration or position yet, and make sure the coloring layers/group stays on top of the groups in its shape section. then, simply put one gif layer duplicate in each group. example of my layers for the second shape so far:
then just repeat this until all subsections have its own gif layer.
V. DISTORTED EFFECT
this is the best part! and it's really easy. basically you want to slightly move each subsection by a few pixels, so they're in a slightly different position than the ones next to it.
to do so, select one of the gif layers and with the arrows on your keyboard, move it left or right, and even up or down if it looks good. i do this for all duplicated gif layers, making sure it looks like they're all slightly offset. focus on the cracked glass overlay's lines while nudging the gif layers, it's easy to see how the shapes break when you move them. for example here:
this is really just all trial and error, you just need to move each subsection gif layer by a few pixels with the keyboard arrows until it looks good to you.
here's my result once i've done this for all (23!!) subsections:
VI. FINAL TOUCHES
i don't think i did much else to this before typography besides adding a bit of contrast overall and a thin drop shadow to the cracked layer texture on top of everything. if you have a transparent png this definitely helps to give a bit more dimension to the effect. so here's the final result:
i hope that was clear enough hehe :D

Y/N Intro - Fracture
Navi | Fracture M.List | intro i | intro ii | Prologue
══════♤══════♧══════♡══════♢══════
"Vice-Commandant sent me to give you this."
“Is this the report on the incident?”
"Yes sir."
══════♤══════♧══════♡══════♢══════
CONFIDENTIAL RIDER REPORT -Y/N
Recipient: WL Kim Hongjoong, Second Wing From: V-Cmdt █████████ Subject: Cdt. L/N Y/N - Incident Debrief & Squad Transfer
═══════════════════════════════════
Rider: Y/N L/N Current Assignment: Wing 2, Flame Section—Squad Pending Previous Assignment: Squad 1 - Declared dissolved, all members KIA with exception. Dragon: Dànshael - Female Blue Daggertail - Aethelynor Line Signet: Heartstring - Observation based. Secondary anomaly noted but unverified. Classification escalated to Tier III pending further analysis. See Addendum.
═══════════════════════════════════
Incident Summary: Cadet Y/N is the sole survivor of the destruction and following dissolution of Squad 1 (Wing 2, Flame Section), following a low-risk perimeter patrol along the Western perimeter on ██/██/████. Operation was routine and not expected to encounter resistance beyond baseline. No significant enemy movement was reported within a 15-mile radius.
Post-Incident analysis and secondary reconnaissance indicate corruption of an unidentified nature. Evidence and survivor report strongly suggests that one rider was affected first. Mental compromise or effects of an unknown influence spread rapidly through the squadron, likely or suspected to be psychological in nature, possibly facilitated through dragon bonds. Behavior degraded within moments; squad turned in on self. Chain of command rapidly collapsed, squad was decimated in approximately eight minutes.
Cadet Y/N remained unengaged in the violence, and was found two hours later by recovery team, physically intact but visibly shaken. Dànshael—here on referred to as Dàn—was notably found unconscious but unharmed next to her rider. The cause of the dragon's condition is currently unknown, as there were no external wounds or signs of magical interference detected, and there is no precedent for a dragon to enter an unconscious state without severe trauma.
Cadet reported a phenomenon referred to as "thread distortion", it is believed to be in reference to her signet's perception-based abilities. Cadet was transferred to isolated medical containment for 48 hours before being transferred to standard medical facility. Cadet is set to resume training under probationary terms after finality of transfer to Squad 3—Wing 2, Flame Section—following WL and SL approval. In the event that it is not approved, Cadet is likely to be transferred to Squad 1, Tail Section, Wing 2.

Signet Analysis (Provisional)
Officially recorded in file as Heartstring, signet manifests as a passive perception-based ability that allows Cadet to visually "perceive" connections between people, dragons, information, and systems as glowing filaments that shift in color based on dynamics or relations.
During the incident with Squad 1 that led to it's breakdown, this ability appeared to allow the cadet to distinguish which individuals were compromised, tracking the corruption to point of origin, allowing her to predict the spread pattern. This likely enabled her to avoid engagement and isolate from further influence.
However, field observations and recorded reactions during the incident, as well as basic training exercises, suggest a secondary, active component—currently undocumented. Cadet has not exhibited conscious awareness of dual Signet functionality. It is suspected that what has been observed is an advanced use of her signet, with differential suggesting it could also be a layered or compound signet manifestation. This latent function appears to allow her to manipulate or apply pressure to weak points within a system—tactical, social, physical, or psychological. This function has previously been overlooked, relating to the cadet's ability to physically perceive how things connect and therefore break, this manifestation blends closely with her signet's primary function and sensory framework. Continued observation without disclosure to cadet is recommended at this time.
NOTE: While there is no conclusive evidentce, internal investigations have flagged the possibility that the unconscious use of a potential secondary signet function may have contributed to Squad 1's instability. Whether this was a catalyst or simply a reactive measure remains unknown.
═══════════════════════════════════
Behavioral and Psychological Report:
Post-recovery evaluations show acute survivor's guilt, heightened pattern-recognition, and relational aversion. Cadet demonstrates composure under stress but evades direct discussion regarding squad's final moments. Cadet's heightened awareness following trauma has led to a tendency to "read" others before engaging, indicating instinctive Signet usage.
Cadet's dragon, Dàn, exhibits heightened protectiveness, uncooperative behavior, and appears to actively discourage close proximity from unfamiliar dragons or riders following incident. Engage with caution.
═══════════════════════════════════
Recommendations:
Escalation of Signet Classification from Class II (Restricted) to Class III (Classified).
Maintain Tier III Classification of Incident at this time.
Restrict mission exposure to controlled or supervised scenarios until confirmation of stability.
Do not disclose dual-signet theory to Cadet at this time.
Psychological review to be administered quarterly under indirect protocols.
Approve integration into Squad 3 with standard probationary Surveillance. Recommended pairing in Squad 3 with low-conflict cadets.
Flag as potential asset - corruption detection and containment. Monitor for corruption resistance markers.
═══════════════════════════════════
Addendum A - Signet Irregularity Study
Resonance testing post-incident reveal fluctuating cognitive output during high-stress situations, particularly in emotionally charged or relationally unstable environments. Theoretical modeling suggests an inherited signet structure that has yet to stabilize, that may either be:
Dual-Signets manifesting in close synchorny (Currently indistinguishable as separate abilities), or
A rare, multi-functional signet with both perceptive and manipulative properties, likely passed down matrilineally.
It is noted that the Cadet's mother reportedly displayed a similar, though less intense, anomaly during her active service in the Rider Quadrant, though records were sealed following discharge and ultimately death. Lineage analysis suggests maternal inheritance is likely.
Observations confirm heightened activity or signet under emotional or interpersonal duress. Effects include targeted influence over psychological or structural vulnerabilities.
Operational implications are significant. Cadet's capabilities may prove advantageous in:
Identification, isolation, or neutralization of corrupted personal and double-agents.
Stealth and infiltrative scenarios requiring emotional or hierarchical manipulation and perception.
Targeted destabilization
Therapeutic restoration of units post-engagement
However, overuse of signet complex presents escalating risks: relational dissociation, neural fatigue, cognitive fragmentation, and involuntary use of manipulation function of signet. Without further study and control, Cadet may pose an internal security risk.
Cadet to remain under active observation. Recommended structured stress-evaluation trials, temporary restriction from command-critical missions, and close monitoring of signet manifestations.

Summary: As winter wraps its chilly arms around them, Y/n and Elijah's bond deepens from tangled up in satin caps, unruly curls, to the sweet chaos of braiding hair. Pairing: Elijah Mikaelson x Fem!reader Prompt(s): Friends to lovers, "i can't believe you talked me into this.", "Stop moving and let me braid your hair." Warning: a whole lotta fluff A/N: I haven't really seen much fluffy Elijah Mikaelson fics lately, so I thought I'd write my own :) REQUEST FORM II NAVIGATION
Winter had woven its frosty fingers through the city, coating rooftops and streets in a delicate layer of snow. For Y/n, it meant pulling out her trusty satin cap to tame the wild waves and curls that cascaded down her shoulders. The chilly air had a knack for stirring up her hair into a frenzy of frizz, much to her frustration.
Amidst the wintry backdrop, Y/n found comfort in the warmth of friendship, particularly in the company of Elijah Mikaelson. Their bond had grown stronger over time, from casual acquaintances to confidants who shared secrets beneath the glow of moonlit nights. Yet, there lingered an unspoken tension, a thread of something more that neither dared to unravel.
One evening, as the snow danced outside Y/n's window, Elijah arrived at her doorstep, a soft smile playing on his lips. "I thought we might enjoy some hot cocoa together," he suggested, the warmth of his voice melting away the chill of the night.
Y/n welcomed him inside, her heart fluttering at his presence. She couldn't deny the butterflies that danced in her stomach whenever he was near. But tonight, as they sat by the crackling fireplace, a different kind of nervousness tingled within her.
Elijah noticed the satin cap perched atop Y/n's head, a curious glint in his eyes. "What's this?" he inquired, reaching out to touch the smooth fabric.
"It's my secret weapon against the winter frizz," Y/n admitted sheepishly, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "The humidity always wreaks havoc on my hair."
Elijah chuckled softly, his fingers lingering on the satin material. "I must say, I've never seen such a...contraption. But if it works for you, then it's worth its weight in gold."
As the night wore on, their laughter filled the air, mingling with the aroma of cocoa and crackling flames. Y/n found herself drawn to Elijah's magnetic presence, the way his eyes sparkled with understanding.
But it wasn't until a sudden gust of wind rattled the windows, sending Y/n's curls into a frenzy, that Elijah made his move. With a gentle hand, he reached for the satin cap, his touch sending shivers down Y/n's spine.
"May I?" he asked softly, his gaze searching hers for permission.
Y/n nodded, her heart racing with anticipation. "I can't believe you talked me into this," she whispered, her voice barely above a breath.
Elijah flashed her a charming smile before carefully removing the satin cap, revealing the tousled waves and curls beneath. His fingers brushed against her hair, eliciting a soft gasp from Y/n's lips.
"Relax." he replied, his voice low and husky.
With practiced ease, Elijah set to work, his fingers deftly navigating through Y/n's locks. He parted her hair into sections, gently coaxing the curls into submission. Each touch sent a jolt of electricity coursing through Y/n's veins, igniting a fire that burned brighter than any winter night.
"Stop moving and let me braid your hair," Elijah teased, his lips curving into a playful grin.
Y/n complied, her heart pounding in her chest as Elijah wove intricate patterns into her hair. With each twist and turn, their connection deepened, intertwining their souls in a dance as old as time itself.
As the last braid fell into place, Elijah stepped back to admire his handiwork, a look of satisfaction crossing his features. "There," he said, his voice filled with pride. "Now you're ready to face the winter with style."
But for Y/n, the real magic wasn't in the braids or the satin cap, but in the way their friendship had grown into something deeper. And in that moment, surrounded by the cozy glow of the fire, wrapped in Elijah's arms from the chilly atmosphere, she looked into Elijah's eyes, and she couldn't help but wonder if this little encounter changed anything.

The Great Sphinx
Who Built the Sphinx? The Sphinx Temple Has the Answer by Mark Lehner
Many alternative thinkers claim the Sphinx is much, much older, that it existed thousands of years before Khufu. But our study of the Sphinx and the temple lying just below it—the Sphinx Temple—says no. As certain as we can be about such matters, Khafre created most of the Sphinx. However, Khufu might have started it.
The stone-by-stone map of the Sphinx Temple allowed us to investigate a telltale clue about who built the Sphinx. Quarrymen cut the core blocks (the ones forming the core of the temple walls) so thick—some weigh up to a hundred tons—that many of them include three geological layers. And it was clear that the layers in many blocks were the same as those that run through the bedrock of the Sphinx itself. The blocks had to have come from the U-shaped ditch around the Sphinx. When workers quarried the ditch they left a large block of limestone from which the Sphinx was carved.
As I moved about the Sphinx Temple during my first year of the mapping project, I was struck by how the geological layers run continuously in many places, from one block to another, as the layers must have run in the bedrock. The gangs of young men who moved these mighty stones did not have much chance of mixing them up from quarry to temple wall. The Sphinx and its temple must have been part of the same quarry-construction sequence. But could I prove this?
The following year I met Tom, who had the expertise needed to geologically “fingerprint” the blocks and trace them back to the quarry. Tom looked at the Giza Plateau less as an archaeological site and more as frozen sea floors, petrified, pancaked, and stacked into the bedrock layers from which the pyramid builders quarried blocks, created tombs, and carved the Sphinx.
These layers formed during the Eocene epoch—some 34 to 56 million years ago, as a great primordial sea retreated northward. Under its ebbing waters, a colossal bank of nummulites, unicellular plankton-like organisms, built up. A sandbar developed on the embankment, and in the more protected waters behind it, a shoal and coral reef grew. As the sea retreated to the north, the area behind the sand bank became a muddy lagoon, inhabited by burrowing bivalves and sea urchins. A regular sequence accumulated, which petrified as soft, yellow, marly layers interspersed with harder beds.
In carving the Sphinx directly from the natural rock, the ancient Egyptian quarrymen cut a cross-section through the principal geological layers of the southeastern slope of the Moqattam Formation. The hard layers of the shoal and reef, for example, make up the lowest layer in the Sphinx and its ditch.
Tom and I began our Sphinx Temple core block study by examining each layer, or bed, of the Sphinx. We gave each bed a number and marked them on photographs and on profiles of the Sphinx. The beds were easy to distinguish as they weathered differentially: harder beds protruded, softer beds receded. Also, the relative abundance of different fossils varied. Members I and II showed the greatest differences: I is a very hard gray reef formation, while the first bed of Member II, 2b, is one of the softest of the yellow marl-clay layers. Members II and III are distinct, but the boundary is not so clear as between I and II. Aigner, following an earlier geologist, set the boundary between Beds 7 and 8.
The massive fine-grained bedrock of Beds 8–9 made for good sculpting, with far more endurance than the soft-hard-soft sequence of Member II. This is why the 4th Dynasty builders reserved Member III for the more exposed head. Details like the eyebrows have survived wind, rain, and sand for 4,500 years.
But from which beds exactly did they cut the core blocks? Would this tell us where they were in fashioning the Sphinx at the time they built the Sphinx Temple? To answer these questions we logged each block. We recorded their lithic qualities and fossil content, and assigned each block to one of seven types, A through G.
Most of the Sphinx Temple core blocks are Type A and consist of three layers: upper and lower hard massive layers separated by the soft, yellow marl layer in the middle, which runs continuously through separate blocks over long stretches of temple wall. These blocks come from beds that correspond to the lower chest of the Sphinx.
Type C blocks come from beds that correspond to the Sphinx’s upper chest, top of the chest, and base of the neck. In the Sphinx Temple these blocks cluster near the front. The quarry workers hewed the blocks from layers that would become the lion’s upper chest and top of the back and then dragged them to the eastern front of the Sphinx Temple. As quarry workers cut deeper, to the middle and lower Sphinx chest level, haulers and builders composed most of the core walls of the temple.
Block types B and D did not come from the Sphinx ditch. They most closely match strata to the southwest, exposed in the quarry cut for the Khentkawes Monument. They are less frequent and more intermittent in the temple walls than the A and C blocks. This could indicate that the builders stockpiled these blocks and brought them into the walls whenever there was a hiatus in the quarrying, dragging, and placing of the A blocks from the Sphinx ditch.
Khafre’s workers started shaping the Sphinx as they built his valley temple. And they were probably still shaping the lower lion body, cutting it out of its surrounding ditch, as they made the Sphinx Temple, Khafre’s last major addition to his pyramid complex. But they did not finish. They left the Sphinx Temple incomplete, without its exterior granite casing.

The "Circle" Theory of Internal Martial Arts ( Part II )
The essence of circle lies in the roundness of strength. When standing in a stance, the whole body must embrace the circle of the six directions: the spine is like a bowstring stretched out in a circle, the chest seems to encompass the world, and the tiger's mouth is round and supported as if holding a baby. The two knees are clamped in a circle like buckling a jade ring, and the soles of the feet grip the ground like suction cups attached to stones. This kind of stance seems to be standing still, but in fact the internal energy flows like a millstone grinding beans. When practicing the Five Elements Fist, the splitting, collapsing, drilling, and cannons all follow the circular path. The splitting fist is like an axe breaking a log. When starting to drill, the little finger points to the sky, and when falling, the palm spits out thunder; the collapsing fist is like an arrow piercing through the nine layers, the elbow does not leave the ribs like the moon circling the ground, and the punch goes out of the center line like the sun patrolling the sky. This kind of boxing is hard and soft, straight and curved, just like the Tai Chi Yin and Yang fish connected head to tail.
When practicing the circular method, one should understand the three realms and nine turns. In the initial stage, practice the bright force, and seek the opening and closing of the big circle. The limbs are stretched out like the wings of a roc hanging down to the sky, and the muscles and bones are stretched out like the branches of an ancient pine tree. At this time, the power is external, like a rushing river, and it is important to "the qi penetrates the finger joints and the power reaches the four extremities." However, this state is prone to stagnation, and it must be relaxed and soft from time to time. When it comes to the dark force stage, the big circle must be reduced to a small circle. The body is like a cat catching a mouse, and it rotates like a gyroscope. At this time, the power is restrained, like mercury pouring into nine bends, and it is important to "hidden in the three gates and the mind penetrates the fingertips." The realm of transformation force is the most mysterious, and the circular method becomes invisible. Every move seems ordinary, but in fact, the whole body is circular. At this time, the dantian is like a millstone grinding the power, the spine is like a dragon and a snake coiling, and the internal energy circulates without stagnation, which is in line with the boxing classics saying "clear the inside and relax the body."
The beauty of the circular movement lies in the transition between attack and defense. In Xingyi fighting, the most taboo is to go straight. I have seen two masters competing. A used the collapsing fist to attack the middle road. B did not block or defend, but turned sideways to transform the sharp edge, twisting his waist and hips at the same time, and intercepted the middle section with the horizontal fist. This rotation and cutting is just like drawing an arc with a compass, using the force to hit the force to the extreme. I also saw the application of the chopping fist. When the hand is drilled and turned, the forearm rotates outward like twisting a twist, which not only deflects the attack but also accumulates the power to counterattack. This circular movement is just as the military strategy says, "Use the roundabout way to be direct, and use the danger as an advantage." It is indeed the only way to break a thousand pounds with ingenuity.
The most important thing in practicing the Yuan method is the harmony of mind and intention. When standing still, you should imagine that your whole body is like an inflated ball, which will turn when touched and move when pressed. The practice of the Five Elements Boxing should be like flowing water, which will go around rocks and fill gullies. The splitting fist is like an axe breaking through the void, and you must have the intention of splitting the chaos; the drilling fist is like lightning piercing the sky, and you should have the intention of penetrating metal and stone. When you reach the stage of transforming strength, you must combine your mind and internal strength into one, so that when you move, you are like a ball rolling on the ground, and when you are still, you are like water filling a bowl. In this state, not only is the boxing method harmonious, but the mind is also transcendent, which is in line with the Taoist practice of "returning to the baby".
The culture of the Circular Way is the essence of Chinese martial arts. Xingyi boxing brings this way to its extreme, turning the human body into a giant ball of heaven and earth, with the internal strength running like the earth and fire, and the moves moving like the stars. If a boxer can understand this mystery of the circular movement, he will know that the boxing method is not about the height of the posture, but about the harmony of strength and intention; the competition is not about winning or losing, but about the harmony of yin and yang. I have been immersed in Xingyi for sixty years, and only then have I realized the principle of "the great circle is like a lack" - the most brilliant circular method is in the state of being like a circle but not a circle, between existence and non-existence. The samadhi in this cannot be fully described in words. I hope that future generations can realize it in the boxing posture and study it in actual combat, and finally reach the state of the harmony of Xingyi.

Sly Fox, Dumb Bunny Part II Preview + moodboard

Sly Fox, Dumb Bunny - Eris x Archeron!Reader
Part II Sneak peek
“Sure, when our business involves Keir.” He spat out the older male’s name with disgust.

Eyes on Fire (pt 2)
*Enemies to Lovers inspired by the Year Zero music video*
Papa Emeritus II x Reader (18+)Word Count: 3.4k (Part 1) (Read on AO3) (Part 3)
Summary: Hoping to escape the headaches of Imperatrix's life you spend time in a forbidden section of the Abbey. Meanwhile, a sleepless Papa Secondo goes for a walk in the early morning hours to clear his mind.

(Dividers by @wrathofrats)
There was only one place you wanted to be...
A place far away from Papa’s dining room, the bustling great hall, and the dormitories flooded with siblings preparing for a night full of debauchery and sin. You wanted to be in the one place that felt most like home with the people who felt most like family. So you climbed. Stride by stride you moved down ancient and worn stone steps covered in cobwebs and dust as you made your way toward the ghoul dens.
The Abbey had stood on the same grounds for hundreds of years. In that time many improvements had been made. A swimming pool was added in the 1890s, the great hall was expanded in the 1920s, and more recently the kitchens had gone under a total rehaul, with new top-of-the-line appliances and expresso machines flown in from Italy. But the one place the ministry hadn’t touched in all those years was the space below.
The basement of the Abbey was a restricted section for all siblings. Partially because it was a bit unsafe and partially because the ghouls were too much of a handful to be trusted with nice things. There was no electrical power down below. The stone walls in the basement were lit only by candle sconces that threw around long casting and eerie shadows. To those unfamiliar, the basement probably looked more like a crypt than it did a home for hell-spawn creatures. But the ghouls liked it that way and so did you.
At the bottom of the stairs, you snatched a candle from one of the wall scones. For some reason lately, there had been an influx of rats scurrying around the Abbey. The last thing you needed was to accidentally step on one. That might just send you to orbit.
By candlelit, you followed the halls through their maze of twists and turns before stopping in front of a massive set of wooden double doors. A large bronze knocker cast in His image hung from the center. You picked it up and slammed it against the splintering wood door three times.
BANG. BANG. BANG.
“Yeah. Yeah,” you heard a familiar voice call from the other side. “Hold onto your granny panties would ya.”
The door groaned in a heavy sigh as it opened. A scrawny maskless ghoul stood in the entryway. Two white horns protruded from the crown of his head and ashen black skin covered his body. When his orange eyes met yours his spaded tail flicked from side to side.
“Hey! What’s up little snack pack?”
“Hey, Dew,” you sighed. “Can I come in?”
“Sure thing babe.” The fire ghoul bowed with a flourish and waved for you to enter. “Right this way little lady. You look like shit by the way.”
You rolled your eyes as you stepped past the ghoul. The main room of the ghoul den was decorated in what a generous person might call an “eclectic style.” Mix-matched furniture from varying decades was strewn around the room in random places. A few soft carpets were layered on top of one another to confront the cold that seeped into the stone floors during the winter months and much like the stairs leading to the basement, candles burned on the walls basking the place in a soothing warm and yellow light. It wasn’t beautiful. It wasn’t even that clean. But maybe because this was the only place in the Abbey that wasn’t dripping in opulence, it felt like being wrapped in a warm hug. And you needed that right now.
In the center of the room, Cumulus and Auoroa lounged on a lime-green sofa. On a small coffee table in front of them, snacks and drinks were laid out. They waved for you to join them.
“Hey guys,” you said, plopping down on the couch between them with a huff. Dew grabbed a guitar from a table by the door and sat in a chair across from you. Aimlessly he started picking at its strings.
“Hey, love,” Cumulus said smiling from your left. Like Dew, her skin was the color of burnt embers but her eyes differed. They were a beautiful soft gray. The same color as the sky before an evening storm or the pebbles on the beach by the lake south of the Abbey. “What are you doing down here? Shouldn’t you be in that shiny new suite of yours? Mountain told us it was real pretty.”
“Honestly today’s been a day,” you answered, sinking further into the couch. “Just wanted to hang out if that’s alright. Unless you guys had plans. Then I can fuck off.”
“Nah. No plans,” Aurora assured you, popping a chip into her mouth before offering you one. “We were just gonna practice for a bit. Unless you wanna talk about your day?”
“God no,” you answered, taking the chip. “Listening to you guys sounds really nice actually.”
“Oh thank Satan,” Dew huffed. Both Cumulus and Aurua shot the fire ghoul daggers and he stopped strumming the black and white guitar in his lap. “What?! Don’t lie you both wanna sing. You have been begginggggggg me to practice with you. ‘Dew please play with us,’” He impishly sang. “’Dew no one plays like you. Please Dew. You’re so talented with your fingers Dew.’”
“No one said that,” Aurura grumbled, throwing a chip at him. It landed squarely in between his eyes.
“Also we don’t sound like that. Plus if she’s having a bad day some humans like to talk about their feelings,” Cumulus added, picking up another chip and throwing it at Dew. “It’s called empathy dipshit.”
Dew stuck out his tongue and you laughed. You were surrounded by idiots. Sweet and loveable idiots. You were feeling better already. After a few more minutes of juvenile bickering, the hellspawns eventually settled down and started to play.
For as long as you’d known Dew he’d been a cocky shit, always bragging about his skills with a guitar. But as you listened to him play you knew he’d earned every brag he’d ever boasted. He was a magician with strings. Plucking and picking with a mesmerizing mastery that had to have been a gift from Satan himself. But the ghoulettes were just as spellbinding. Their harmonizing voices bounced off the high-bowed walls like sirens, lulling you into easy relaxation. At some point, you decided to crawl off the couch and lie on the floor, curling up in a pile of pillows and blankets and letting the music soothe you.
“That’s really pretty…” you murmured half-asleep, during a short break in the music.
“Mhmm. It is,” Cumulus purred from her spot on the couch.
“What’s it mean?”
“You don’t speak Latin?” Dew asked incredulously, before taking a long draw of some water Aurora had passed him.
You propped yourself up on your elbow and looked back at the fire ghoul. “Eh. I’m a little rusty.”
“Through hardships to hell.”
“What?”
“That’s what it means,” Dew answered, setting his water aside. “Per aspera ad inferi. It means through hardships to hell.”
“Oh,” you said shirking back to the floor and into your covers. It hadn’t occurred to you that this song might be incredibly personal to the three ghouls. They had quite literally crawled through hell to be here in this Abbey and serve the ministry. They had come from the real below.
“Did you guys come up with that?” You didn’t know much about their journey. You’d always assumed it wasn’t your place to ask or to know, but the song… it had been so haunting and yet… so strangely familiar. Even though you hadn’t understood the words, the music had clung to you. Like thick sticky syrup, it had swirled into your blood and mixed in your veins. You felt an inexplicable connection that was as old as time.
“No. We didn’t write it,” Cumulus said quietly.
“Who did?”
The three ghouls looked at one another. Seconds passed like minutes.
“Papa.”
There wasn’t much point in staying in the dens after that. You’d come down here to escape thoughts of Secondo only to be reminded of him all over again.
The climb back toward your suite didn’t take long. The Abbey was quiet this late at night. The hallways were empty of their regular hustle and bustle. Most siblings were asleep in their beds or tangled up in the sheets of another. You reached your door in record time. You pulled out your brass key and slid it into the door... but it was already unlocked.
You heard the crackling of your fireplace before you saw him. He was seated with his back to you in one of the tufted leather armchairs across the room. There were no lights on and you couldn’t see his face from the doorway, but none of that mattered. You knew who it was. Only one person owned the tense curve of those broad shoulders. It was him. It was Secondo. He was here in your room.
“Do I repulse you, sorella?” His voice boomed over the fire.
You froze in the doorway. Legs cemented to the ground, heart ready to bound out of your chest. What was he doing here? Had he come to expel you from the church? Was he going to smile as he tossed you out on your ass?
“Speak up sorella,” Secondo commanded. “I will repeat my question. Do I repulse you?”
“N-no, Papa,” you managed to squeak.
“Come here. I want to look at you while we have this conversation.”
Fuck. So this was it. The sadist was going to make you leave right here and now in the middle of the night. You moved across the room and into the dancing firelight.
After what had happened in the dining room you weren’t prepared to meet Secondo’s eye line again. So you delayed it. Slowly you looked him over, starting at his feet and working your way north.
Secondo wore a pair of black Oxfords, buffed and polished so pristinely that you saw your reflection staring back at you. A few inches higher black socks peaked out from underneath a pair of crisp black slacks. And on his steadily rising and falling chest, he’d opted for a button-down of a matching color. A black and emerald Grucifix hung from his neck. Head to toe he was dressed in black.
He looked like an undertaker. You closed your eyes. You weren’t ready to be laid out on his slab.
“You will answer me honestly, sorrella. No lies to your Papa.” It wasn’t a question but you nodded anyway.
You opened your eyes and looked at Secondo’s face. Since dinner, he’d washed away his sacred paints. A pair of dark aviators were perched on his crooked nose. He looked every bit like the Papa the siblings whispered about. An angry, bitter man, full of rage waiting for a spark to ignite his fire.
“You won’t partake in the offerings?” He questioned.
“No, Papa.”
“It is late, sorrella. I will not drag this out. Tell me your reason and do not lie.”
Secondo was right.
It was late. The clock in the corner of your room had finished its 24-hour cycle and the hours had reached into the early morning. But you were sick of having this conversation. You were sick of defending yourself. Fuck it. If Sister Imperator hadn’t told him you would—cards on the table.
“I don’t like to be so casual about who I have sex with.”
For a moment Secondo looked confused before he burst into a fit of laughter. Bending at the hip, he slapped his gloved hands on the arms of your chair. “Say that again sorella. That is the funniest thing I’ve heard all day.”
You wanted to slap him. Anger pooled in your stomach. Your fist clenched at your side. “I believe sex means something more when there’s more than just a physical connection.”
Secondo laughed again and you bit your cheek. “You know you sound like a Catholic when you say these things. ‘Means something more.’ Are you going to tell me that the next sister I sleep with I should marry and that I should make as many babies with her as possible?”
Secondo rose from the chair and stepped toward you. Inches separated you. You could smell his cologne. Rich and deep. Sacramental incense lingered on his clothes. He stared down at you over the ridge of his nose. His brows cast long, and angry shadows over his already glowering features.
“Do not confuse our rituals for something deeper, sorrella.”
“Of course, you would misunderstand me.”
The words slipped from your tongue before you could think twice. But you didn’t want them back. You meant it.
You’d seen Secondo.
You’d watched him as he moved through the Abbey every day and every night. He only ever thought of himself. He was a taker, never minding what others needed. What others wanted. So why would a conversation here and now be any different? Why would he consider any other person’s perspective but his own? He didn’t even remember what he’d said to you. How he’d hurt you.
“Watch your tone diavolessa,” he growled. “I am your Papa.”
Exactly right, you thought. You are my Papa but you are not my owner. My maker. My master. You have no right to claim me or to force me to do anything. I own my destiny. Not you. You took another step closer to Secondo, the front of your habit brushed against his dress shirt. Unafraid you tilted your chin up. Fire blazed in your eyes. Heat emanated from his chest.
“Apologies, your dark excellency. I will ask Sister Imperator to move me back to my former post in the gardens.” You didn’t want to give up your new apartment but you’d rather fight for lukewarm water in the communal showers than deal with him another day longer.
“That is…” Secondo paused and you closed your eyes bracing for the blow. Send me away. Do it. Send me back to the land of the undeserving and misguided. Do it now. I’d take them over you. I’d take anything over you. “Thatisunnecessary. I will see you tomorrow.”
Without another word, Secondo brushed past you and walked out your door.
There was no point in going back to his quarters. Secondo wouldn’t sleep. He hadn’t slept well in days. Tonight would be no different. There was too much on his mind.
He needed to clear his head.
So Secondo stepped out into the night.
The air was crisp and cool. Fall would be here soon and the flowers would shrivel. But for now, life still breathed in the grounds and the air still smelled sweet. Secondo followed the dirt path from the south entrance of the Abbey down to the gardens. His older brother had taken meticulous care of them since his retirement, practically spending every waking hour pruning and pampering his beloved piccoli fiori. Primo’s obsession had grown so strong that he’d even moved out of the Abbey’s suites and into a small log cabin on the edge of the ministry’s grounds so he could be closer to his work.
But Secondo hadn’t minded.
It made Primo happy and he could still find his brother for a chat whenever he needed to. If it weren’t for the early morning hour he would have sought out Primo for one of those talks now. The old man was more of a comfort than his father had ever been and his mind had been a mess for weeks. But the sun was almost up. Surely Primo in his old age was sound asleep somewhere. So Secondo chose to stroll the grounds alone and linger in the messiness of his mind.
He wandered through rows of vibrant roses and multicolored hydrangeas, passing various fruit trees and flowering cherry blossoms until he reached something he had not seen before. Underneath a centuries-old weeping willow, Primo had planted something new. In tightly packed rows narrow plots of spectacular white and pink flowers bloomed amongst leathery deep green shrubs. It was beautiful. The shrubbery looked like rhododendrons, but the flowers… Secondo had never seen anything like it. They resembled the cooper bells that hung in the Abbey’s highest towers.
He needed to smell them.
Secondo crouched down on the dirt path and reached for their pretty petals.
“Careful fratello.” Secondo quickly dropped his hand. “She is not so friendly this one.”
Clad in a red robe, Primo emerged from the dark path. His hands were clasped behind his back and he eyed his younger brother with a loving smile.
“Shouldn't you be asleep fratello?” Secondo asked, pushing off the ground with a groan that denoted his age and stood to his full height. “The sun will be up soon.”
“Ah, I was going to ask you the same,” Primo’s smile widened, strolling over to stand next to Secondo. “Do you like the fiori? They are beautiful, no?”
“Si. They are,” Secondo answered truthfully. “New additions?”
“Not entirely fratellino. Many moons ago these flowers used to surround our little Abbey. If you would indulge un vecchio uomo I would like to tell you their story.”
Secondo nodded, “Of course, Primo.”
The elder Emeritus led his younger brother to a stone bench under the willow tree. They sat down together. Secondo looked over the rows of flowers as his brother began to tell his story.
“Before you and I, walked these grounds there was a beautiful sibling who cared for the fiori and impianti. She came to the church with an extensive knowledge of botany and quickly thrived here. From the things she grew, she established the first apothecary in the ministry. She helped many siblings. She was happy and content. Eventually, she fell in love with a brother and he with her. But one day when the sister walked these grounds she witnessed a betrayal. Her mate with another. Her heart was broken. But the sister would not let this indignity stand. She introduced a colony of bees to the garden and let them feed on the nectar of these very beautiful fiori.” Primo’s gloved hand pointed to the rows of pink and white bell flowers in front of them.
“And then the ever-patient sister waited. She waited and pretended everything with her lover was bene, while in the night he continued to be with another. But after a time she returned to the garden and to her bees. She collected their honey knowing their nectar had been poisoned by these beautiful fiori. One evening the sister made her lover a pot of tea and added a spoonful of her wicked honey. As he drank the brother’s lips began to burn. Pain flamed his mouth and throat. He withered and convulsed in pain for hours. The legend diverges here. Some say the brother died. While others claim he recovered but fled the ministry in fear of his beloved’s vengeful wrath. In both versions of the tale these flowers were ripped from our grounds.”
Secondo sat quietly trying to make sense of his brother’s story. Ever since he could remember his elder brother had used longwinded tales to teach him lessons of the world or of the church. But tonight for the life of him, he could not figure out what Primo was to say. What did these poisonous flowers have to do with anything?
He was too tired. A puzzle was the last thing he wanted. He couldn’t hide his annoyance.
“Why are you telling me this brother?” Secondo asked exasperatedly. “You know I don’t care about these plants the way you do.”
“Ahh,” Primo hummed. “That may be true but tastes change fratellino. Things we once thought were insignificant can become valuable to us, no?”
“Primo I don’t under-”
“It’s nice to have beautiful things around, even if we cannot touch, si? Even if we cannot taste?”
Secondo raised an eyebrow. “What have you seen fratello?”
“It should not matter what I’ve seen. You must see for yourself.”
Secondo angered. Standing quickly he spun and stared down at his brother. “How quickly you forget what it is like Primo!” he shouted. “I need guidance. I don’t need this. I don’t know why I bother when you only speak in riddles.”
Secondo turned his back and stormed away from Primo, but before he got lost amongst the roses he heard his brother's voice.
“He has not forgotten you nor have I. Patience fratellino. Plans are already in motion. You will not be denied.”

KPOP DEMON HUNTERS: WORLDBUILDING.
contents. i. preface / ii. system / iii. background - connection
note. the following texts are my own takes. they may not be entirely accurate in regards to traditional lore and religion, though i'm familiar with and have done substantive research. a lot of what is presented here is also heavily korean - adjacent just to build off of what the movie has offered, but i'll be providing more global concepts that can be expanded on for those with verses outside of korea and east asia. information here is not stagnant in nature and subject to change.
preface.
in the movie, we see different kinds of demon presentations. we met gwi-ma, who is king of this underworld in which the demons inhabit, and that they are battling with the hunters to prevent the barrier from taking a more stronger, permanent form. throughout the movie, a small number of demons are seen wearing traditional attire of jeoseung saja (grim reapers). the main driving force of the demons and the underworld is to steal/eat souls and deliver them to the underworld, to gwi-ma.
from what i know within korean mythos and religion, jeoseung saja are traditionally represented as neutral entities. they are deliverers, messengers, guides. their purpose is to deliver a soul that has died to the underworld, where they will meet judgement. there's a judge of the dead that would determine the fate of the souls (punishment, purgatory/limbo/ghost, reincarnation, paradise*). this underworld is typically referred as jeoseung, the main destination post - death, and where the jeoseung saja guide souls. jiok is what westerners typically understand as "hell" and it's the realm for punishment and suffering, and not all souls go there. there's also the many layers of hell but for the purpose of worldbuilding and acknowledging that the movie blends western and eastern depictions + creating their own thing, i'll be condensing some parts. there also aren’t “demons” in traditional eastern depictions the way western lore and media have portrayed, so this is another western mixture.
* paradise is not consistent across most traditional depictions.
focusing on gwi-ma, we see him as a shapeless, fiery entity in hell. his name is a combination of gwi (ghost/spirit) and ma (evil spirit), which kind of aligns with the role he plays here. typically, there's no singular "demon ruler", and gwi-ma is depicted more of the western version of "satan". he can control and speak to not only demons, but humans, once strong enough. he appeals through people's desperation and greed (relating to "ma" 마 in his name), as these souls are more spiritually vulnerable and inclined to lose their soul. in combination with the western faustian bargain and the crossroad demon folklore, gwi-ma has people trade their souls in exchange for what they desire, condemning them to his hell. gwi-ma would collect once the time was called, and these people would serve him in hell.
i'll get into the demonic and hell systems later, but i just wanted to lay out the foundation.
the movie makes it seem as though there are only two driving forces at play, the demons/hell and the hunters. jeoseung saja exist in the universe but as neutral entities who do their jobs. jeoseung (neutural underworld) exists. i'll dive more into this in the background section, but the demons and hell fractured from the structure and caused an imbalance. there are celestial beings of sorts that start a system of earthly guardians, another metric to thwart the demons. that system is the hunter system as we see played out. one last thing : the honmoon. hon (혼) is referred to as the soul, which fits in how the movie portrays their "honmoon" as an soul-shield-barrier-esque thing that prevents demons from breaking through.
system.
hell is hierarchical. there's many layers to it, it is a vast world. it is completely separate from the neutral underworld where souls meet judgement. there are primordial demons that are born through hell and made from higher-ups in hell that were not humans. these are the demons we typically see with less humanistic features. they are created from hatred, chaos, spiritual imbalance, or hellfire. additonally, over time, humans condemned to hell will lose human features ( beyond eye and skin color ) and begin to look more closely to their primordial counterparts.
human-borns exist at the lowest tier, but with the opportunity to rise through ranks.
single-minded primordials are second lowest, sometimes in the same levels as humans purely because they serve more as foot soldiers or moving bodies to carry out less-complex tasks or just kill/feed. an example of them in the movie would the water demons*.
lower-ranking demons exist in the middle. they're a mixture of primordials and humans.
higher-ranking demons are also a mixture of primordials and human-borns. primordials of higher-ranking tend to be more aligned with nobility and capable of more complex comprehension, typically warriors or strategists or lieutenants. there's a hierarchy within the higher-ranking in terms of proximity to gwi-ma. these are also the demons we see dressed as jeoseung saja who will actively steal souls.
gwi-ma exists as the highest ruler of hell, the entity that takes the souls, and powers hell. the more powerful he is, the more everyone in hell thrives. gwi-ma can watch over all demons, listen to or hear their conversations if needed, get into their heads, control their whereabouts, etc. everyone serves gwi-ma, whether willingly or not.
universally, there are hell factions with their own rulers of the same standing as gwi-ma. think of it as a coalition of sorts. they communicate at times but scarcely as they're more involved with region-specific concerns. region-specific hell systems vary, but humans will always remain at the lowest tier.
*water demons can be a mixture of humans that have long lost all aspects of humanity and primordials.
when condemned to hell, humans maintain their memories. it is part of their suffering. the longer they are in hell, the less they remember tangible memories, but they remember the feelings, the emotions. they won't remember what is causing the shame, guilt, rage, etc., but it persists. gwi-ma controls this. it is a universal desire of demons to not have to feel, and many strive to have their memories erased before they're too far gone. very rarely is this granted. this is also why we have seen some of the saja boys look like monotonal demons — they have lost a sense of self.
demons have powers. it is specific to ranking and type of demon. typical abilities include teleporting of sorts, shifting through spaces, shape-shifting. there's a wide range of them, higher-ups tend ot have most of it. demons are also physically stronger, faster, regenerate faster, etc. single-minded primordials would be limited to brute strength. bottom-tier human-born demons usually do not have any abilities or strengths whatsoever.
on the topic of demons dressed as jeoseung saja. it is symbolic and appearance-based only. they do not guide souls, they steal souls, which is the antithesis of the jeoseung saja. in a sense, they have bastardized it and exploited it. it fits their "role", but they are not guides.*
*there is room for the concept in that previous jeoseung saja may have fallen trap or defected.
when in human form, demons thrive as "humans". they eat, sleep, etc. it is very easy for most demons to want to remain in the human world.
as mentioned in the preface, the neutral underworld is where souls are typically brought to. they undergo judgement and are sentenced. there are levels of bureaucracies within this underworld, with closer connections to celestials and other higher-beings. these celestials are created the hunters.
the following can be applied globally with specific cultural differences. the hunter system is where powers of these celestials are given to select humans to carry out their duties. after much trial and error, the connection of human souls and the belief through music is what strengthens the barrier over hell, called the honmoon ( as it is called in korea ). there is less of a hierarchy with hunters. there are only previous generations and future generations to come. leadership comes based on proximity to celestial beings and master of skills, among other factors.
hunters are selected from young ages and trained. typically in groups, though there may be instances of solo acts in other regions. candidates are usually those who are predisposed to seeing otherworldly things or with stronger spiritual connections, but not always.
hunters are primarily seen in the arts, mostly music. this has to do with the reach that music has in terms of sound waves, frequency, and vibrations, but also in metaphorical reach to fans and audiences.
hunters will have heightened senses, including the ability to spot demons and their patterns in hiding. they also will be physically stronger with more stamina, but they are still human. they wound and hurt the same.
there is technically no "end" age for retirement. most hunters are killed before, but should they live it out, it usually comes with the "aging out" of a level of widespread influence. that, and physical aging on the body makes for a less efficient hunter. hunters past peak efficiency will lose most of their given abilities, they can still harness their weapons and assist, it just usually isn't as impactful if their physical health isn't. new generations are always a "when" not "if".
former generation will train the new generation.
hunters don’t have direct communication with celestial beings.
weapons are specific to the hunters. they can manifest it at will and it can become a tangible thing until decided otherwise. other people usually cannot wield it. usually. weapons are imbued with energy specifically to kill demons with ease.
the honmoon exists globally but its manifestation differs per region. it is not referred to as the honmoon in other regions.
the "golden" honmoon represents the strongest, most ideal state for the honmoon to be in. very few hunters have achieved this, and over time, the honmoon will still be weakened but this slows the process.
otherworldly entities can take on human forms. they can procreate, though very rare and not allowed ( punishable ). with half-demons, they're usually fated to end up in hell as the demon side can overpower them. this also means that gwi-ma is entirely capable of taking human form.
more to be added as needed.
background - connection.
there used to be a working foundation and structure of co-existing planes. there was the neutral underworld, with grim reapers guiding souls, and they were judged and provided their sentences. it was a system that worked, until ambition and greed weakened bonds and threatened the basic foundations of the after-life. the hells have started growing in power, and defecting. they broke the rules, killed grim reapers and other celestials, and most importantly : disrupted the balance by actively going after humans and breaking into the mortal plane.
the neutral underworld and its higher-planes combined forces to stifle the hells the best they could, creating the first layer of the honmoon to protect the living temporarily. but it wasn't enough. the system had been fractured and would cease the function normally as long as the risk of war looms and the demons regain access to the humans. while the hells have mostly lost their first attempt, they have yet to give up. the neutral underworld and the higher-planes have been unsuccessful in getting the hells to cooperate, and have resorted to repairing the system while keeping a close watch. the hells still needed souls to function, and the corrupted souls still needed to be punished in hell.
over centuries and centuries, the hells have gotten smarter. demons could take on the form of reapers. they were able to weaken parts of the barrier to overwhelm it in abundance. until the hunters were created, and the hells struggled once again. but as long as humans grew corrupt, as long as feelings of shame, anger, guilt, negativity, etc. existed, and as long as the humans could be tempted, the hells would survive.
#logged onto tumblr dot com on my work computer just to make a duplicate of this lmfao#but anywaysss yeah <3#tried to keep it as straightforward as possible and left it relatively open for lore outside of korea#u WILL see me creating the chinese ver for my chinese muses bc hehehehe#i'll probs make another study on the idol industry within korean and how dangerous it is with regards to korean values. standards. n bigotr#this is the worldbuilding i'll be based out of w my affiliates <3#mutuals are welcome to adapt and build off of this i just ask u dont . steal it even tho i didn't come up with the foundations#of western and eastern mythos and what kpdh has laid out#wahhhhh

Hostile Conditioning Thresholds: Displays lower resistance to certain ultrasonic frequencies used in anti-animal deterrents.
Emotional Dysregulation Triggers: Strong emotional stimuli related to past trauma (see Incident #030) can disrupt task focus and cause aggression or withdrawal.
Operational Limitation Post-Morphogenic Exposure Risk Evaluation Summary: Shepherd undergoes full cellular deconstruction and reformation during morphogenic transitions between human and caniform states. Upon reversion to human form, all integrated clothing, tactical equipment, and external gear are nullified by the biological transmutation process. The subject re-emerges nude, without protective coverage or field-ready attire.
Operational Risks Identified:
Environmental Exposure: Susceptibility to hypothermia, chemical agents, or abrasions in uncontrolled terrain.
Tactical Vulnerability: Immediate post-shift incapacity to engage, defend, or retreat due to lack of armor or armament.
Unit Disruption: Potential for distraction, morale disruption, or psychological discomfort among human personnel.
Public Exposure Risk: In civilian-adjacent operations, post-shift emergence could compromise mission secrecy and provoke incident escalation.
Discretion Protocol: Visual engagement of Shepherd during reversion is to be limited. Non-essential visual contact is to be restricted.
Additional Notes: The issue remains physiological and currently unresolvable via augmentation without compromising morphogenic fluidity. A prosthetic gear-retention solution is under review but deemed non-viable in rapid-shift scenarios as of the latest R&D cycle.
SECTION VII: INCIDENT LOG EXCERPTS
Incident #030 – Exposure to Stimulus ("Whistle Echo Variant") Date: 14 Jan 2023 Outcome: Temporary feral lock lasting 5h17m. Operative displayed territorial aggression. No operatives injured. Induced via unknown high-frequency pattern in proximity mine.
Incident #091 – Tactical Disengagement (Morocco Urban Cleft) Date: 26 Sep 2024 Outcome: Subject entered canine form mid-assault and failed to re-establish identity for 3.4 hours. Autonomous escape and later regrouping suggest partial operational memory retention. Collar data lost in transit.
Incident #117 – Forced Capture Test Date: 09 Feb 2025 Outcome: Subject resisted physical interrogation for 72 hours. Under simulated neural interrogation, subject's memory nodes shifted erratically, preventing clean data extraction.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE [CONFIDENTIAL – REDACTED]
Diagnosed with Controlled Identity Dissociation due to dual consciousness bleed Behavioral Overlay: Canine Imprinting ResidualsCompulsion: Cataloging animal trauma in encrypted field logs Displays signs of interspecies empathy inversion: higher emotional response to canines than humans Regular debriefings required post-shift to confirm cognitive cohesion Trust rating: Satisfactory (fluctuating) Loyalty tier: ██ (Observed Deviations) Note: Obedience - Absolute.

LIMITATIONS
Canine Phenotypic Shift Cognitive Decline: Upon full transformation into canine morphology, higher-order executive functions and complex tactical reasoning are significantly impaired, resulting in reliance on instinctual behaviors that may hinder mission-specific objectives.
Verbal Communication Restriction: In canine form, expressive communication is limited to nonverbal signaling and basic command comprehension, thereby reducing effective real-time coordination with human operatives. To mitigate this, a custom-engineered neural-linked collar—designated Vox-Halo Unit 7—has been implemented.
Sensory Modality Vulnerability: Exposure to extreme environmental factors such as hyperthermia or toxic chemical agents attenuates olfactory and other heightened sensory functions, diminishing tracking and detection capacity.
Physical Trauma Susceptibility: Despite augmented regenerative and endurance capabilities, Shepherd remains vulnerable to high-impact ballistic trauma and sustained blunt force injuries, which transiently impair operational effectiveness.
Engagement Range Limitation: Combat proficiency is primarily restricted to close-quarters; proficiency with ranged weaponry is suboptimal, necessitating support elements for medium to long-range threat neutralization.
Cognitive-Identity Disassociation: Prolonged duration in canine form or repeated canine-hominid identity shifts may precipitate episodes of cognitive disorientation or temporary loss of self-awareness, compromising operational reliability.
Cybernetic Maintenance Dependency: Enhanced physical and sensory augmentations require scheduled recalibration and maintenance; operational degradation occurs in the absence of routine servicing or if systems are compromised.
Infiltration Countermeasure Sensitivity: Although adept in unconventional infiltration, Shepherd’s biological and sensory enhancements are susceptible to detection by advanced biometric and bio-signature surveillance technologies.
Manual Dexterity Deficiency: The canine anatomical form imposes significant limitations on fine motor skills, restricting capability for complex tool manipulation, technical sabotage, or field repairs.
Psychological Stress Response: Exposure to high-stress combat environments or trauma-associated stimuli can induce atypical behavioral responses, including heightened aggression or withdrawal, necessitating ongoing psychological evaluation and support.

Picrew Masterpost
So uh... I use picrew a lot. Like, a lot a lot. Because of this I have a lot of funky picrews in my catalog, some are really popular some less so - figured I'd make a master list with as many as I physically can. I'll try to list pros and cons* for each picrew - unfortunately, due to the image limit I can't include examples** *pros and cons are my personal opinion, I am not trying to insult any picrew on this list nor am I saying my opinion is the be-all or end-all. I will not be commenting negatively on any art styles in my con list, I will simply focus on what it does well and what I think could be better **If you have a maker you think should be added send me an ask with the link and lmk it's for this post For the sake of actually browsing this post, we're gonna have sections. Under these sections will be all the picrews relating to it. The sections, in the order listed, are:
Modern - has a majority modern clothing options
Fantasy - has a majority fantasy clothing options
Historic - clothing options or artstyle reflect a specific time period
Full Body - shows knees up of the characters or more
Group - more than one character in the image
