Looking for Ursa right after being banished had some...wildly unexpected results. One: Zuko actually found her. Two: she wasn't alone. Three: leaving her children behind in order to protect them was, apparently, just something she did.
Looking at the bright side, Zuko now had a three-year-old younger brother to look after. Looking at the dark side, Zuko now had a three-year-old kid he needed to parent while also keeping him a secret from his father because—may Agni help him—the Fire Lord would have to go through Zuko first if he dared to even look at Lu Ten II.
(AKA an AU in which Zuko is a good big brother and doesn't want another kid to grow up like he did.)

And it's only... 51 days late. It's fine it's fine#Thanks to everybody in the dfpu chat who helped me come up with stuff to doodle for the border. It was a big help and a lot of fun!#we really did recreate what is going on in the drawing!#also thanks to snails muffin and terror for the animation pointers & terminology#Smear frames were def the way to go! Not whatever I was trying to do before asking for help#I guess this counts as my first *real* animation so hooray!#I *might* use some of the remaining prompts for future drawings but at this point I have other things I want to work on#even though I was only able to finish a few of these I felt like I still learned a lot#it definitely got me into the habit of drawing every day#and I'm still doing that so this event was a big win in my book!#and no joke I really did color pick from the load cursor just so I could do the silly spinning thing

It was also because there was so many other things going on in the background.#Great things that I was like “oh but that's got great comic potential - oh but *that* would be a fun thing to focus on - oh but THAT -”#And sometimes when I get overwhelmed I simply say No...No to drawing out 5 additional comics for the second siege.#I do still deeply adore the Jin Ling and Jiang Cheng moments. I loved all the juniors kicking ass in front of their mentors and parents!#It bears repeating that a core message in MDZS is about how the next generation has the capacity to grow past their predecessors.#That they are going to chose what to believe and will come to their own decisions. That they will be better for it.#And! That it is not just the new generation! Lan Qiren picks up his sword and fights as well!#This is a story about hope lying in the future if you choose to nurture it now. Not all seeds will grow but some *will*.#For now...we can just ask ourselves the question of what we want that future to be. And start somewhere.#Maybe it is learning how to draw comics. Maybe it is learning how to be kinder.#Maybe it's about getting good gains and never putting your shirt back on. Godspeed Lan Jingyi.#...I may make a poll to make the decision on whether he stays like this or not (or secret third option?)
