An English Language Journey Is Cultivating Knowledge Through Hard Work Every Day...
Tumblr media
Just as different plants require different types of soil and care, do other languages require different approaches to learning?
Do the challenges and rewards of gardening or farming parallel the challenges and rewards of learning a new language, and how so?
How can working in a garden or on a farm provide a sense of accomplishment that can also be felt in language learning?
Learning a new language can feel daunting and challenging, but it can also be rewarding and enjoyable with the right mindset and approach. Language learning can be compared to gardening or farming, where consistent effort and care are essential for growth and success.
Just as different plants require different types of soil and care, other languages may require different approaches to learning. That's why finding strategies that work best for you and your language learning goals is essential.
Teachers can incorporate gardening-themed activities that allow students to apply the metaphor to their language learning to make language learning more engaging and motivating. For example, teachers could organise a vocabulary "planting" activity where students brainstorm new words related to a specific topic and "plant" them in a virtual garden. Then, throughout the semester, they can water and nurture these plants by using the new words in sentences, speaking activities, and written assignments. That can provide a tangible and visual representation of their language growth and progress.
Another idea is to create a garden-themed language learning scavenger hunt, where students search for new words or phrases around the classroom or outside. That can help students associate language learning with fun and excitement and give them the opportunity to use their newly acquired vocabulary in real-world situations.
Additionally, incorporating gardening-related videos or documentaries into the language learning curriculum can spark students' curiosity and encourage them to explore new vocabulary and concepts related to the natural world.
Through these interactive and creative activities, ESL students can feel more engaged and motivated in their language-learning journey. They can also gain a greater appreciation for the natural world and the beauty of language.
As a gardener tends to their plants, language learners must cultivate their skills through regular practice and exposure to new words and phrases. Building a solid vocabulary is critical to effective communication. It can be achieved through a variety of methods, such as reading books and articles, watching movies and TV shows, and interacting with native speakers.
As students cultivate their vocabulary, they will come across a range of words and phrases crucial to communication. To incorporate new words into familiar contexts, language learners can gradually build their vocabulary and become more confident and effective communicators. And by using gardening as a tool for language learning, learners can also gain a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, just like when they see their garden bloom and thrive.
In conclusion, by incorporating the gardening/farming metaphor into language learning, ESL students can feel more motivated, engaged, and connected to the natural world. With consistent effort and a growth mindset, they can cultivate a "garden of language" that will flourish and thrive for years.

Dragonflys are incredible creatures masked by exciting stories and deep symbolism. They are most notably recognized as symbols of change. More specifically change in the perspective of self realization, and personal evolution. Dragonflies are incredibly evolved species that are comfortable on land, in the air, and on the water. They can hover in place, fly extremely fast (up to 30mph) and can even fly backwards. Most of their head is eye...so they can see almost a full 360 degrees! They have also been found to come in over 5000 varieties! Why am I telling you this? There's a lot we can learn from such an advanced creature that still has time for stillness... It's all about finding a balance. No matter how advanced, or strong, or fast, or versatile they are. They still need calm... "When I run after what I think I want my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me. From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me, and attracting me..." -Rumi #successcoach #successquote #dragonfly #dragonflies #naturewisdom #learnfromnature #selfreflection #patience #learningfromnature #symbolism #animalsymbolism #connecttonature https://www.instagram.com/p/CCgnYLYj9E4/?igshid=uhczdupqcqfc

Tuesday Planting Tips🌱: Four Tips to Success in Hydroponic Growing: The absence of soil in a hydroponic system means there must be something that the plants can be propagated in and supported by for the nutrient solution to flow effectively through. The determination of a good growing medium is one that allows a good balance of oxygen and moisture to be absorbed by the roots of the plants. #FullCircle26inc, #agtech, #fullcircle26incSTEM, #3DModelofSustainability, #urbanfarmingforeducation, #foodsustainability, #growfood4life, #hydroponics, #growathome, #STEMprojects, #STEAMeducation, #steameducationforkids, #stem-education, #learningfromnature, #jannieshydroponicsexplorersclub, #growingcommunity, #Cool_NewGreen_CEO, #freshtotable, #weteachhydroponics, #learnhydroponics, #hydroteaching, #learntogrow, #FC26I, #nextgenharvest, #tuesdayplantingtips, #nextgenerationharvest, #agtech https://www.instagram.com/p/CqDGrKbLD6I/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Today, we made a Wormery! Or, three, actually - one per Bean! As part of our at home learning, we’ve been looking at life-cycles and the natural world. So, we decided to take a look at the life-cycle of an Earth Worm too and to make our own DIY wormeries so that we could study these amazing creatures in more detail. I set this up as a Tuff Tray activity with some printed fact sheets from @twinklresources / @twinklparents and a copy of the life-cycle so that we could discuss this and talk all about worms as we set to work, constructing our wormeries. Earth worms are one of the world's unsung heroes. They loosen and mix up the soil, break down and recycle decaying plant matter and fertilise the soil by bringing nutrients closer to the surface. Earth worms burrow through the soil creating channels that add oxygen to the soil and allow carbon dioxide to escape. The channels also allow rain to drain away. All of this helps contribute to a rich and fertile compost that helps other plants, flowers and vegetables grow to be strong and healthy. They are a vital part of the ecosystem. So, what do you need if you want to try making your own wormery too? Equipment needed: 1. A clear, plastic bottle (1.5 or 2L) 2. Safety scissors 3. Compost or soil or a mixture of both 4. Sharp sand 5. Some small stones/pebbles 6. A few worms per bottle 7. Water sprayer to dampen layers 8. Worm food – grated carrot, vegetable peelings, dead leaves, shredded newspaper 9. Some dark/black card or paper You can see step-by-step instructions on our Facebook page (@ThreeBeansPlaytime) #threebeansplaytime #3beansplaytime #wormery #eyfs #eyfsideas #learning #learningathome #homelearning #homelearningfun #lifecycles #twinkl #twinklparents #learningfromhome #learningfromnature #youtuberkids https://www.instagram.com/p/B_yVX3mnv7A/?igshid=ni53p3l827gz
