SUMMARY: Killing a few head honchos in the Japanese army isn’t going to secure Korea it’s independence, but it’ll sure feel good.

THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: Sharpshooters with bad eyesight, questionable mustaches, prison breaks, scarves, coffee, ruthless generals, traitors, spies, secret hideouts, department store weddings, metal fingers, and birthright doppelgängers.

HOT TAKE: I had a lot of fun with this! Great action, compelling acting, gorgeous sets, and a plot that went a lot of different places before coming back to meet itself at the end.

I did feel like the familial reunion plot might have gotten a little cut for time since it really didn't seem to satisfy, but I admit this movie made me want to punch and root for folks, and in my eyes, that a sign of a good movie.

Movies and shows about this era are tough to handle, even as someone unconnected with this cultural history, solely based on my empathy and ideas of justice. There were so many people fighting to stay alive in so many different ways--some by staying under the radar, some by using violence, some by trying to make good with the Japanese. Each one of their journeys are tragic in their own way, and so many people suffered so that their children and grandchildren could live to see an independent existence.

Just rewatched Tune in for Love after a long time and now I'm sure it's one of my favorite romance movies of all time. It just excels at everything I love about this genre: the mixture of fluff and angst, the yearning, the longing, the insane chemistry between Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In... It's basically perfect. Also, I need both of them to reunite in a full-length drama, please 🥹🥹🥹
