PixLens is a little acrylic cube designed by materials engineer Hakusi Katei (Monoli) that makes 16 × 16-ish mosaic—no batteries, no-screens, or post-processing required pictures. A pair of crossed cylindrical micro-facets on the front and bkack split light into rows and columns; each facet behaves like a tiny diverging lens, so every square of the area forms a chunky “pixel”.

It's been described as a “prism that Minecrafts scenery without electricity” … retina resolution? heck no, this is deliberate degradation. It's a cute art-tool, about 34 × 34 × 16 mm and 18 × 18 effective pixels, pop in a camera bag and drops straight in front of any lens—phone, DSLR, webcam, or even your eye… Each version-1.3 piece is CNC-cut, hand-polished, engraved with the PixLens logo, and released in pre-order batches of 500-1000 units.

The 144p resolution, grainy effects, and scattered audio yet why does it all look so good? It feels wrong but it feels so right. It’s familiar, yet the memory isn’t yours.

Camcorders and digital cameras are making a comeback! I treated myself to a camcorder as a birthday gift and as a fan of nostalgia, I couldn’t wait to start using it.

I read somewhere that if you want to edit, it’s best to pick your audio first and then match the pacing of your clip to it, and they were absolutely right.

There’s something about camcorder footage paired with 90s to early 2000s alternative music that feels like a distant memory. It’s unfamiliar because, back then, I was just a grade school student experiencing fleeting emotions and moments that didn’t quite make sense to me yet. Still, I watched time pass and now sometimes I wish I could go back to those childhood days.

For this video, I kept it simple: default camcorder settings, just the right exposure, normal lighting, and I let the natural beauty of the woods take center stage. Here’s the result:
