Buck is so fucking tired. Its been months, months trapped in this godforsaken day.

Hes tried everything to get out, he tried making up with his exes (except Tommy), hes tried talking to everyone he knows (except Tommy), hes even tried many implausible and at times downright stupid things (only half of those were based on ideas from Chimney and Eddie.)

Today was a break day. Hed needed a few to recover after his last attempt. At least the airtime had been nice for a few seconds before the pain cut straight to the next day. No strategizing either, not that he was getting much of anywhere since he had to remind whoever he was with that day, (usually Eddie, sometimes Hen or Chim, occassionally Maddie, rarely anyone else after the first few times) of every scheme hed already tried.

No today he was doing the only mildly interesting part of this living prison, exploring the city. He'd found a new farmer's market, went to the beach, and now he was stopping to get coffee.

As he exited the building he ran directly into someone, spilling his coffee all over himself. The burn honestly didnt much phase him anymore. Not after day 87 anyway. Still.

"Dang, watch it man," he said, none of the usual fawning apologies he'd have given before the loop.

"No it was my... fault," came a voice he knew so well yet hadnt heard in almsot a year now.

Well, for him almsot a year, for Tommy Kinnard standing in front of him it was only like 2 months.

"Oh this is fucking great," he said to himself before pulling out his phone. "Hildy make a not not to come here next loop I'm not doing this again," he said as he turned and started to walk away.

Then a hand grabbed his wrist and tugged, he tried to wrench his arm away but Tommy was just as strong as he was.

"Evan, what did you just say?"

Buck shook himself loose after another jolt of his arm before looking at Tommy. It still hurt, fuck it did, but he had worse things to deal with. "Don't worry about it Tommy. You don't ever have to worry about me again, you made that clear." Again hes about to turn away when Tommy calls out to him.

"Are you in a time loop?"

That was a new record. Chim had been the fastest to ever get it at 2 hours. Slowly he turned around, despite his better judgment.

"Considering you won't rmemeber this tomorrow, and we wont see each other, yes Tommy Ive been stuck in a time loop for months now. Its getting pretty fucking old actually." Despite the fact he was definitely being a bit bitchy, Tommys face was doing some confusing journey between surprise, relief and then happiness. By the time he stopped talking the man seemed to be vibrating before he pounced, hugging Buck so hard he thought he might crack a rib.

As much as Buck might have missed this, he was pretty fucking confused. "To-mmy..."

Tommy let go, pulling back and laughing a bit hysterically. "Evan," oh, his name sounded so good on Tommys tongue how had he forgotten "i thought i was going crazy."

"What?"

Tommy shook his head. "I mean, i didnt believe it at first. Obviously you know my skepticism, even after the Billy Boils thing." Tommy gave him a softer smile then. "But after a while, and a few different trips to the hospital it became clear there wasnt anything physically wrong with me, which meant either i was crazy, or, well, I was stuck in a time loop."

Buck stood there staring at the man he'd once been on the cusp of loving, of spending forever with, and realized they were both stuck, potentially forever, in a single day.

"I cant believe this... have you met anyone else thats on the loop?"

Tommy shook his head again, glancing around before motioning for them to take a seat outside the cafe. He grabbed some napkins, giving them to Buck to wipe at his stained shirt.

"No. Ive talked to a few people, Lucy, Sal, even Howie a few different times but never even considered someone else might be stuck too."

Buck dabbed at his shirt with little actual concern. He was more focused on this trippy development. "And youve tried to get out?"

"Oh boy, yes, tried doing everything right, doing nothing, tried talking to my dad even, that was a big mistake." His head tilted to the side in that way Buck remembered fondly, when Tommy was trying to dodge the severity of something he didnt want to admit hurt. "Heck I even called Abby thinking maybe i needed to apologize or something but... nothing." He held out his empty hands and shrugged.

Buck couldnt help what came out next. "Didnt call to apologize to me. And Id know, considering im also in the loop."

Tommy didnt say anything for a long moment until. "I thought about it. So many times. Talked myself out of it. Didnt think it was right to only contact you to try to free myself."

"Self sacrificing idiot," Buck said, tossing a balled up napkin at his chest.

"Guilty as charged."

That admission actually made Buck smile for the first time. "Dang, only took you a full blown time loop to admit it huh?"

Tommy laughed. "Groundhog day hell has humbled me I guessm"

Buck quirked an eyebrow. "What does any of this have to do with a holiday about a rodent predicting the weather?"

Tommy looked surprised, the expression soon melting into a sort of shocked amusement. "Ill explain it to you later. Looks like we've got the time. A lot of it actually."

"Yeah, I guess we do." Buck looked at him, and it still hurt, but there was camaraderie there, stuck in the same situation with only one person that understood. For the first time since the breakup he felt like things were starting to make sense again. And maybe, just maybe, if they could find a way to move past this day... well maybe they could find a way to move past their own problems too.

"have we not had a good time together" shes pointing yaz to the rule that yaz very well knows is there: we can travel if you dont ask me any difficult questions. yaz knows this is the rule - "because you ask too many questions", "this team structure isnt flat" - but she also was the one to invite the doctor into her home so im pretty sure she also knows shes not gonna kicked out that easily. she has some leeway. which she has been using between revolution and flux, which is why the doctor reminds her of the rules

i dont think she'd kick her out though. she wouldnt. i think it's just that the more you break the rule, the more unpleasant she becomes to be around, and eventually youre gonna walk out on your own. she doesnt want you to, she'd rather you stay and dont ask questions. but if youre gonna try to ask questions anyway, i think thats whats gonna happen

Yeah I know lots of us get canon and fanon confused and some never watched Danny Phantom which is why I’m going to *friendly remind everyone* that if you don’t want to use the Ghost King Danny thing, it’s—it’s fanon. Like. You do not need to go out of your way to make it Not A Thing, if you find it’s hindering your plot line or whatever. You don’t have to write around it. At this point, you might need to clarify it’s not something you’re doing, since it’s so common, but like—if I have to read one more plot where they’re twisted up in knots to avoid it, like. Pls. You can do what you want and that includes this, we already disregard canon all the time, you can buck common fanon as well I’m—

That’s not to say I’m against Ghost King Danny, but I’m starting to think it’s one of those things people are afraid to stray from because they think it’s it’s one of the more… pillar parts? Of Danny’s character and canon? When it’s, like, not. If you want to write in reasons why he’s not king and etc etc you CAN, it’s your story and maybe it even serves your plot or tone or you just want to, but you can also just not even have it be a consideration. You’re free to just not do it.

Yesterday Bow's mum brought Pixel some new treats. They are catnip flavored, which I've never gotten her before because I was just not sure if she would enjoy it or not. I didn't open the bag at the time; I stored it, sealed, in a biscuit tin I keep under the bed with all her treats in it.

About 3am I woke up to a horrible metallic clanging, followed by a rustle of plastic.

As is my usually procedure in these circumstances I made a "leave it!" noise at her a few times before realizing she was not going to pay attention.

I got up from the bed and discovered the catnip treats bag laid on the floor, so I put it back in the treat container and sealed it more firmly. But before I could get back to sleep, CLANG, wobble wobble, plastic noises. I repeated the process still more carefully and shoved the tin further under the bed where it would be harder to knock over.

CLANG.

Okay. Fine. I had to take the wretched tin and put it ON MY BEDSIDE TABLE. Even so she spent a couple of minutes trying to to creep up and knock the lid off, only it was braced too well and she couldn't get to it.

This evening when I opened the tin for her evening treat, the previously sealed catnip treats bag had little cat tooth holes in it and one long gash where she had almost, but not quite, broken the whole bag open.

This is all to say, she likes catnip flavor I guess.

Not quite, but I understand what you're asking.

Mimes can-- but do not need to if they do not want to-- seek out a host that is capable of life, but currently is not alive. Life in this instance means capable of functioning through an energy source, and not alive means not actively receiving the required energy in order to function.

So this includes: the recently but vitally intact deceased as well as animals, dying plants, unpowered electronics, dead but undamaged electrical grids.

I believe from a scientific point of view, they would be participating in some form of forceful mutualism, especially in organic hosts where they prevent further decay of the body by providing energy and reviving dead cells. In return, mimes gain near-complete control of the mind and body of the host, and are the only thing that can ensure the body continues to thrive as intended.

It’s a dream he’s had all his life, always the same. A well lit room, pale whites and blues, a window open with a fresh breeze, and a boy in a bed with a smile on his face and sunlight streaming right through him. His hand is in the air like he’s reaching towards something, and Buck can see through it to the leaves on the tree outside. He realizes that the something he’s reaching towards is Buck himself, and he tries to reach back, but their hands never touch before he wakes.

Buck opens his eyes in the dark of the bunk room, station alarm going off overhead, and rolls out of bed.

I have the thought that, for Mesmer's birthday, Vertin got her cleaning supplies, bleach, toothpaste, and a new toothbrush

To anyone else, it would seem random; but to Mesmer, who's a 'bit' of a clean freak, it's the best gift she's ever had 🥺

Not that she'd say it aloud, though. But the look in her eyes and the slight smile is more than enough for Vertin ^-^

It's always endearing when you receive something you like and appreciate than something pretty or expensive.

Mesmer doesn't mind the Bracelets and necklaces, but when she receives a new bottle of the soap she likes a lot or a new broom of good quality, she brightens up significantly.

It's a weird gift, and people would probably look weirdly at Vertin for giving such uncommon gifts, but she doesn't care. What's important is to see Mesmer's usually poker face brighten up with a slight smile every time she receives something she actually likes.

so i actually am working on a fic with this exact concept rn! it's just slow going bc the early chapters are canon rewrites and i didn't wanna do that so im stomping my feet about it. but if i did a true, 100% swap I'd probably do this. Having Nick being bullied is hard bc he is not vulnerable enough in canon for bullies to find something to exploit from him. I think the easiest/low hanging fruit would be his weight because he is a bigger boy in canon and I've heard that weight related bullying in the UK can be pretty intense? However, I could see in an AU where maybe he's Frencher and the accent is more intense, him being bullied for being French, having divorced parents and/or David having begun the bullying and it just continued after he left Truham and maybe the reason why Nick is bullied is weirdly unclear, everyone just fell into peer pressure to be mean to him LMAO. charlie would not do rugby! in canon he only does rugby because of nick and has no real interest in it. i think something more interesting would be if he played tennis and is popular and good at it in that way that a lot of queer boys become popular? sort of leaning into that bitchy gay-boy trope for his own comfort even though that's not who he really is. So, cue their meet-cute where they're put together in Form. Maybe Charlie feels safe being soft with Nick and maybe Nick feels a bit safer being more vulnerable with Charlie. Nick would challenge a lot of Charlie's beliefs on how he has to act socially. Nick doesn't bother bending himself into molds because he's tried and it's only made the bullying worse. Charlie tries to instill more confidence in Nick because Nick is, in his opinion, an objectively attractive person but he's also so KIND. I don't think Charlie would get why Nick is so kind to him bc Charlie would be surrounded by people who talk a lot of shit behind his back or even to his face sometimes. And the plot beats would change. I like to think there'd be a bigger conflict around Charlie truly loving Nick, but being too afraid of losing his position in the Truham social hierarchy to date him openly, and Nick trying to balance if Charlie's love is worth never being acknowledged publicly even though he covets Charlie quite severely + Nick struggling with his mental health to the point of having quite a large breakdown later on that sort of forces Charlie to reckon with what he wants vs. what he thinks he wants and Nick not forgiving him for a very long time.
