Introduction (:
Hook: Grab the reader's attention with an interesting fact or question.
Do you ever wonder what could go beyond the status quo in the healthcare system; especially if you realize that there were about 48 million non-elderly Americans who were uninsured in 2010. (Finegold et al., 2021). The absence of health insurance can have devastating consequences for the financial well-being (FWB) of those who suffer from a severe illness or get seriously injured in an accident. Financial challenges faced by uninsured individuals in case of a mishap include delinquency on medical and non-medical bills, reduced access to credit, and increased chances of fling for bankruptcy (Dobkin et al., 2018; Hu et al., 2018)
It might be possible that the status quo only needs minor changes to improve the system overall; especially when considering that people in the political system spout wanting more of a market-based or more of a command-based system when we already have a mixed economic system. This is especially true in the United States of America.
Background Information and Literature Review:
Consider that many people cannot afford health care; even when there have been attempts to get more people health care insurance. They have to rely on someone else's money to provide their health care; whether that is help from the government or a not-for-profit organization (which includes friends and family).
Thesis Statement:
My question to answer is this:
When is it necessary to utilize government help for funding health care and when is it necessary to utilize not-for-profit organizations? This involves Medicaid, Medicare, the AA health insurance marketplace, and COBRA (which includes health care for adults and children with low-income and people who are 65 and older who qualify because of illness or disability. Also, consider private donations. How do you go about improving the health care system? As I stated before, it might need a smaller change than a larger one.

Main Body:
History
Historically, governments in most low- and middle-income countries established a national health service, wherein a government department, typically a health ministry at the national or sub-national level, allocated general revenue through line-item budgets to cover staff salaries, medicines and operating costs for a network of government-owned health facilities. Some governments also had parallel risk pooling arrangements, including social health insurance for formal sector workers, and many governments eventually introduced user fees in public facilities to mobilize more financing for the health sector.7

Three types of economies include command economy, market economy and mixed economy, and within each type, there are three main branches of economics Types of Economic Systems | SNHU:
The Status Quo (a mixed economy)
A mixed economic system is one that combines aspects of both capitalism (i.e. market-based) and socialism (command-based). A mixed economic system accepts private property and permits economic freedom in the use of capital, but also allows for governments to interfere in economic activities in order to achieve social aims. Most countries in the world have mixed economic systems.
Advantages and Disadvantages of a Mixed Economy
A mixed economy combines several of the desirable qualities of both capitalist and socialist economic systems. The capitalist principles of free enterprise, market-based prices, and private property create incentives for innovation and efficiency, while elements of a welfare state and price controls guarantee a minimum standard of living.
However, social welfare programs can create a high tax burden and distort the market. Price controls, such as minimum wage laws, can have the unintended effects of reducing employment, according to the Philips curve. Other interventions, such as housing guarantees or free healthcare, can sometimes result in shortages because pricing does not reflect availability.
A mixed economy also allows the government to set its strategic priorities through selective interventions in the economy. For example, the United States gives favorable tax treatments to certain agricultural and manufacturing industries, because they are considered crucial for the country's long-term economic health.
Mixed economies can also result in less competition or regulatory capture, as private interests lobby for favorable regulations and tax treatment. This can have the perverse effect of regulations being determined by industries rather than policymakers.
Pros
Increased efficiency and productivity due to market-based incentives.
Welfare protections for the poorest members of the population.
Allows the government to set strategic priorities through economic policy.
Cons
Does not avoid the market-distorting effects of government intervention.
May succumb to regulatory capture as business interests campaign for favorable regulations.
Higher taxes to pay for welfare state policies.
Mixed Economic System: Characteristics, Examples, Pros & Cons
Command Economy – A command economy is an economy in which the government controls all economic activity and transactions. A country with a communist government is an example of a command economy.
Advantages of a Command Economy
Centralized Planning: One of the primary advantages of a command economy is centralized planning. Government authorities can set clear goals, allocate resources strategically, and coordinate economic activities to achieve specific objectives. This can lead to efficient allocation of resources for critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Income Equality: Command economies often prioritize income equality by implementing policies that aim to reduce wealth disparities. Through progressive taxation and social welfare programs, they can provide basic necessities to all citizens, ensuring a certain level of economic equality.
Stability and Predictability: Government control can lead to economic stability and predictability. Prices, production, and wages are typically regulated, reducing the likelihood of market fluctuations and economic crises.
Disadvantages of a Command Economy
Lack of Incentives: In command economies, where the government owns or controls most industries, there can be a lack of incentives for innovation, efficiency, and entrepreneurship. Without competition, there may be little motivation to improve products or services.
Resource Misallocation: Centralized planning can result in resource misallocation, as decisions are made by government authorities rather than responding to market demand. This can lead to overproduction of certain goods and shortages of others.
Bureaucracy and Inefficiency: Command economies often involve extensive bureaucracy, which can hinder decision-making and lead to inefficiencies. Long approval processes and red tape can slow down economic activities.
Command Economy: What It Is, Pros and Cons, Examples - Harbourfront Technologies
Market Economy – A market economy is free of all government control. “The economic outcomes are determined by the market forces and the so called ‘invisible hand,’ to use a term coined by philosopher Adam Smith,” Yates said. The invisible hand is a metaphor commonly-used among economists to describe how market forces work together
What Are the Pros of a Market Economy?
1. It provides a society with the right goods or services at the right time (catastrophic health care) Because competition works with supply and demand in a market economy, businesses and individuals receive access to the exact goods or services that they need. Although the quality of these goods may vary based on who manufacturers them, different socioeconomic classes can access specific goods within their price range that they wish to own. This eliminates the ability to have a central authority dictate who should receive access to specific goods and at what price.
2. A market economy promotes entrepreneurship. Because the emphasis within a market economy is on innovation, it creates an environment where entrepreneurship can thrive. It supports the process of discovering new products or services that will be wanted, while allowing individuals and businesses to decide which products or services will best meet their needs. It is a structure that provides profits for businesses of any size while creating satisfied customers at the same time.
3. It creates competition. A market economy thrives because businesses are forced to continually innovate to survive. Businesses that refuse to innovate will be left behind because there will always be someone willing to look at things in a different way. This motivation is the foundation of a market economy because it must be there to encourage better products and services to be offered over time.
4. It reduces the need to store products. Because the laws of supply and demand are enforced in a market economy, manufacturers produce goods based on the demands that the society requires. This reduces the need to store surplus products because anything that is extra will be sold at a deeply discounted price or simply destroyed. The goal is to find a balance between society’s demands and the number of goods that are produced.
5. Market economies tend to provide more jobs. Small businesses in the US economy represent 99.7% of all businesses. Businesses with fewer than 20 employees in the United States account for 89.6% of the workforce. With a market economy, the focus on innovation allows these small businesses to find a niche and provide local jobs that can pay well. Although larger companies may outsource jobs to save money, local jobs come from individuals and partnerships that exploit a good idea they may have.
6. Prices are usually kept down in a market economy. Because competition is present within an industry, prices tend to stay lower because businesses are attempting to obtain as many customers as possible. It is this element that is a core philosophy in the Republican health care proposals that circulated in 2017. By introducing competition in the insurance markets across state lines, the goal is to drop policy pricing for many consumers.
What Are the Cons of a Market Economy?
1. Market economies tend to produce inferior goods and services. The goal of a market economy is to find balance between cost and profit. Businesses will minimize costs and maximize profits. That usually means skilled workers who demand high wages will be replaced by low or average-skill workers who can still produce a reasonably good product, but at a cheaper price. That means a market economy rarely provides the best possible goods and services that could be produced.
2. It harms the environment. A market economy places an emphasis on the cost of good produced over any other factor. That means there are fewer environmental concerns that are addressed during the production of goods. When it costs less to dump waste in nature than it does to properly dispose of it, the lack of governmental interference or a central authority would allow such an action to occur.
3. Outsourcing is frequent in a market economy. Because the goal is to produce the highest quality goods at the lowest possible prices, many companies outsource jobs and manufacturing to foreign providers. Outside of the developed world, wages are much lower. Most of humanity lives on less than USD $10 per day. If a local worker needs $10 per hour for their needs and a worker elsewhere will work for $10 per day, outsourcing allows a business to create better profits.
4. Commodity prices typically rise in a market economy. Commodities are primary agricultural products or raw materials that are bought or sold. Coffee is a commodity, as is copper. In a market economy, these are the items that are essential to the manufacturing process. Without them, a business cannot create goods or services for sale. Because supply and demand applies, and most businesses need commodities to function, the pricing of these goods is higher and that increase gets put into the final consume price tag.
5. Economy imbalances occur frequently within a market economy. The Great Recession in 2007-2009 occurred because of a lack of regulation in several sectors, including housing, around the world. Similar recessions have occurred throughout history because a market economy eventually creates an imbalance. When more businesses attempt to maximize profits without regard to risk, eventually a negative event occurs and the consumers tend to be the hardest hit by the fallout.
The pros and cons of a market economy show that the forces between businesses and consumers can be beneficial, even if there are minimal controls or regulations in place to dictate that relationship. Although there is a risk for harm to workers and the environment, similar risks exist in other economy forms as well. With the emphasis on innovation and the chance for entrepreneurs to thrive, the positives of a market economy are often seen as outweighing the negatives.

4. Address Social Determinants of Health (involves catastrophic and chronic healthcare issues and/or problems):
Recognize and address the factors that influence health:
Consider socioeconomic status, access to education, housing, and transportation, as these factors significantly impact health outcomes.
Develop programs to address these issues:
Partner with community organizations to address social needs and improve access to resources.
5. Improve Care Coordination (catastrophic and chronic healthcare issues and/or problems):
Implement care coordination strategies:
Ensure seamless transitions of care between different healthcare settings and providers.
Focus on chronic care management:
Provide comprehensive and coordinated care for individuals with chronic conditions to improve outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
6. Decentralize Public Health Services (involves catastrophic and chronic healthcare):
Empower local health authorities:
Decentralization can lead to more efficient and responsive healthcare systems that are tailored to local needs.
Promote collaboration between different levels of government:
Effective healthcare systems require strong collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies.
7. Invest in Innovation (catastrophic and chronic healthcare issues and/or problems):
Support research and development: Invest in medical device and pharmaceutical innovation to develop new treatments and technologies that can improve healthcare outcomes.
Encourage collaboration between researchers, healthcare providers, and industry: Foster a culture of innovation to drive advancements in healthcare.
Discuss Significance: Explain the importance of your research and its implications.
Across the globe, there are different systems that work to provide adequate health care. Of course, this can be kind of confusing because of how much people in the political system say that the system is more market-based and/or command economics systems. Most of them have mixed economic systems and not market-based and/or command economic systems. It can be paid for with the help of private donors and/or not-for-profits organizations (usually provided by philanthropic organizations) or government programs.
Here are ten major philanthropic organizations that fund health projects:
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
Rockeffeler Foundatin
Ford Foundation
Open Society Foundations
Healthcare Focus
Funding Priorities
Advocacy and Policy Change
Wellcome Trust
MacArthur Foundation
Bloomberg Philanthropies
10 Major Philanthropic Foundations That Fund Health Projects - fundsforNGOs
The importance of this research is that there could be more effective, more efficient, and would provide more equity to help people to get the health care they need. This is necessary, even if most of the health care system is already a mixed economic system.
Offer Final Thoughts: End with a concluding statement or suggestion for future research.
There is always the question of, can things be done better! And, as much as things have gotten better, there is still the chance that things could get even better! That is what I addressed in my conclusion, when describing how the different systems would work and how effectively and efficiently, and equitably the mixed economic system already is!

Countries are now undertaking reforms that move them from passively paying facilities based on pre-determined bud- gets or bills they present to the purchaser, to more strategic forms of purchasing. These forms of purchasing involve decision-making about the benefit package, providers contracted and payment methods.1–3 Many governments have initiated government-funded health insurance, wherein a public health insurance fund contracts and pays public and private providers to deliver a defined set of services to all citizens.8 Several countries, especially in Africa, have either capped or abolished user fees in the public sector, and introduced payments to public facilities to re- imburse them for the fees forgone. Some governments have also implemented new performance-based financing programmes that introduce payments to facilities and/or providers that are more explicitly linked to outputs.9–12

A top minister in Premier Blaine Higgs's government says she is resigning from cabinet immediately and will also quit as a member of the legislature "in the near term says she made the decision "after much consideration and discussion with my family" but did not provide any reasons in a statement released Friday morning.
She said she made the decision "with mixed emotions. … Serving the people of New Brunswick and representing the wonderful people in my riding of Saint John Harbour has been a true privilege and honor of a lifetime."
The premier is not required to call a by-election to fill a vacant seat in the 12 months before a scheduled general election, which is considered a key battleground in the provincial election scheduled for this fall.
The Liberals have nominated Saint John City Councilor David Hickey to run there, while the Greens have chosen Mariah Darling, an activist and education coordinator with a local LGBTQ organization.
They both said Friday that Dunn's departure was another sign of the Progressive Conservative Party veering further to the right.
Darling said Dunn's resignation "shows some cracks in the Conservative party right now" and called it "a real sign that people in Saint John Harbour need new leadership and don't need to look to a party that can't keep their own members currently."
Dunn was seen as a star candidate when she was elected in 2020 and was handed several cabinet responsibilities, including economic development, immigration, and Indigenous affairs on post-secondary education, training, and labor, in June 2023 after Higgs shuffled his cabinet in the wake of a revolt over his changes to the education department's Policy 713 on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Dunn opposed the changes but was not in the legislature the day six other Progressive Conservative MLAs voted against the government on the issue.
Higgs said at the time the fact she was not there for the vote was why he kept her as a minister after dumping two of the others who broke ranks reporters Friday that he expected his internal critics to put Dunn's departure "in a negative light" but said, "I don't think that we should read anything more or less into the fact that it's an opportunity for others to get involved in politics."
Dunn's announcement came just hours after Natural Resources and Energy Development Minister Mike Holland announced he'll be leaving politics when the provincial election is called this year, a regional vice-president of the PC party who supported a push to remove Higgs as leader last year, said the two departures are a sign of "poor management and poor leadership in the PC party" that rests with Higgs.
He said there was no mechanism to remove Higgs at this point, but said he hoped the premier might still step down before the election.
Holland, however, said he was leaving because he's accomplished everything that was on his to-do list when he became minister in 2018 and it's time to pass the baton.
He added that his decision was "not whatsoever" influenced by divisions in the PC caucus and cabinet over Premier Blaine Higgs's handling of he wouldn't have been able to accomplish initiatives such as the doubling of protected areas on Crown lands without Higgs's support.
Elected politics "is meant to be, you come in, you do your work and you pass it on," Holland said.
The Progressive Conservative party has scheduled a candidate nominating meeting in the Albert-Riverview riding for Feb. 14. The riding on the new electoral map is a redrawn version of Holland's current Albert riding elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2020, said his decision was also driven by the fact that his partner lives in Nova Scotia.
Economic Development Minister Greg Turner will take on Dunn's responsibilities for post-secondary education, labor, training, and immigration, while Holland will absorb her Indigenous Affairs portfolio.
Higgs is facing the loss of other ministers when he calls the election this year said in October he will retire when Higgs calls the election, and Health Minister Bruce Fitch also hinted last fall that he will not run again.

Assembly Elections 2023
Equations Of The Five States Few Days Before Elections?

Political News In Hindi, There are not many days left in the voting process for the elections to be held in 5 states including Hindi heartland states. Voting will start from 7th of next month. About a month before the voting, the political parties release the list of candidates and the election campaign is at its peak, but this time all the five equations seem to be changing with each passing time. Out of the 5 electoral states, there is a direct fight between BJP and Congress in 3 big states, while in the remaining two states, there is a big fight between the regional parties of Congress. However, after the distribution of tickets among the political parties of all the five states, the fire of infighting has no longer remained internal but has reached the streets. After the party canceled the ticket, the game of defection has also started. In such a situation, let us know what the current equations of all the election states say and who is stronger than whom.
Dilemma Between Both The Parties In Rajasthan:
Rajasthan is the only state in India where the public changes its government every five years. At the beginning of this year, this trend seemed to be repeating again, but the infighting among BJP leaders, the anger of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and the pro-people policies of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot have put Congress ahead. According to local and other election surveys, at the beginning of this year, BJP was reported to be ahead of Congress, the biggest reason for which was the open verbal attacks between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former Rajasthan Congress President Sachin Pilot.
Former Chief Minister Sachin Pilot had accused his own party's government of corruption several times in the last 5 years and had also gone on fast. Apart from the Gehlot-Pilot political tussle in the state, there were other big issues which had put the CM Gehlot-led government on the back foot, but where the opposition should have capitalized on these issues, they fought due to the ongoing opposition within their party. It seems to be coming out. The rift between Rajasthan BJP President Satish Punia, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia is well known. It is being said that while there is a tussle between two leaders in the Congress regarding the post of Chief Minister, on the other hand, there are 3-4 such leaders within Nahajapada who are now staking their claims in the Jan Sabha.
However, BJP was ignoring all these problems and giving competition to Congress, but the biggest increase in this problem happened when the news started coming that the BJP high command had appointed its senior most leader and former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia in the state after the 2018 defeat. Have since been ignored. Keeping all these incidents in mind, many surveys were conducted regarding the election results and are being conducted even today. Presently, the situation is such that despite the anti-Congress wave, it seems to be giving a tough fight to the BJP, which is being attributed to the lack of leadership in Rajasthan BJP and other life-benefiting schemes like Ashok Gehlot's dearness allowance and Chiranjeevi Yojana.
Chances Of Biggest Upset In Telangana:
Chief Minister KCR's Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi) has formed the government in Telangana for two consecutive terms. Out of the total 119 assembly seats, KCR's TRS had established its dominance in Telangana by winning 63 in the 2014 elections and a spectacular 88 in the 2018 elections, but this time the elections can increase the problems for KCR and his entire party. After the landslide victory in 2018, allegations of corruption started being made against KCR, his daughter K Kavita and many MLAs, the effect of which was seen in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election s held in the year 2020.
While TRS had won 99 seats out of 150 Municipal Corporation seats in 2016, in 2020, under the leadership of MP Bandi Sanjay, it won 44 seats, defeating TRS and the party led by its associate Asaduddin Owaisi. On the other hand, TRS had slipped from 99 to 56. BJP started establishing its roots in Telangana after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. From 2014 to 2020, he had performed well in the Lok Sabha and Assembly, which seemed to indicate that the BJP is moving towards winning another southern state of South India after Karnataka in the 2023 Assembly, but in 2023, the BJP won in Karnataka. The shameful defeat changed everything for the BJP.
Due to opposition within the party against President Bandi Sanjay, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy was made the party president, after which the BJP started moving towards its decline, of which the Congress took full advantage and, beating all the figures, led by State President Revanth Reddy. I is currently appearing ahead in all equations. Revanth Reddy and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi have held public meetings and presented themselves as a better and different option before the people of Telangana. At present, Congress seems to be far ahead of the other two parties in almost every opinion poll. The fight which was BJP vs TRS till a few months ago has now become TRS vs Congress.
MP Politics - Shivraj Mama Reduced The Fear Of Big Defeat In Madhya Pradesh:
It is said that Madhya Pradesh is a laboratory for BJP. From 2003 to 2018, BJP had one-sided rule in the central state but the defeat with minimum margin in 2018 changed the politics of BJP. A year after the defeat, BJP formed the government in March 2020 by including 22 MLAs including Jyotiraditya Scindia in the party, but the anti-BJP wave among the public had not ended. Till 6 months before the election date, there was a strong and historic victory under the leadership of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath. There were several protests against the BJP government in the last one year, there were allegations of corruption in examinations and increasing crimes against backward classes in the state. Almost every section had expressed their anger against BJP, in which some solutions were found but many were left disappointed. Seeing such a huge anti-incumbency against BJP, according to political pundits and different media surveys, BJP was seen lagging behind Congress by a huge margin, but 4-time Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chouhan played his ace and shocked everyone. The name of that ace was Laadli Brahmin Yojana which worked to benefit 50% of the voting class i.e. women in the elections and to calm the opposition wave. Apart from this, within the last 6 months, CM Shivraj also held many big public meetings in which he also met women directly. However, while Shivraj is making moves to save his government and society, Congress on the other hand is seen sleeping. Just as BJP proved unsuccessful in Rajasthan as opposition, similarly Congress proved unsuccessful in Madhya Pradesh. The faster the elections were approaching, the faster the Congress was deviating from its vision. Congress failed to capitalize on the biggest protest in the state, due to which BJP got a chance to make a comeback. Now the current situation is that according to political pundits and recent surveys, Congress is ahead but the margin seems to be the same as the 2018 election results.
Bhupesh Kaka Flame Will Remain Intact In Chhattisgarh:
In Chhattisgarh, which is the second stronghold of BJP in Central India, Congress had defeated the 15-year-old Raman Singh government in the last elections. From 2003 to 2018, BJP had won 3 elections but due to anti-incumbency against Chief Minister Raman Singh and other cabinet ministers, BJP had to face historic defeat. Of the total 90 seats in the assembly, Congress had won 71 seats. Even after five years, BJP is not in a position to recover from this shameful defeat handed by Congress. In the last five years, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has taken Chhattisgarh to new heights of development with his policies, due to which his image has been established as a better Chief Minister, the answer to which BJP has not been able to find till now. Although CM Bhupesh Baghel has launched many flagship schemes, there is one such scheme which has made him the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh for the second consecutive time that is Godhan Nyay Yojana, under which the government will buy cow dung from farmers and cattle rearers at the rate of Rs 2 per kg. After purchase, women self-help group members will convert the cow dung into vermicompost and other products. This scheme had opened new employment opportunities for the unemployed poor living in both rural and urban areas. Not only this, the Bhupesh Baghel government was successful to a great extent in the Naxalite violence that had been going on in the state for years. After Chhattisgarh 2018, Congress had defeated BJP in the 2021 civic elections also. Now the current situation is that even the BJP high command is not seen making much effort in Chhattisgarh and the Congress is moving towards a one-sided victory in the various surveys that are coming out continuously.
Difficulties May Increase For Zoramthanga:
Mizoram has been a bone of contention between the Mizo National Front and the Congress ever since it was separated from Assam state in 1972 and attained full statehood in 1987. In the 8 assembly elections held since 1987, both the parties have formed their government in Mizoram 4 times each. Congress was considered very strong in Mizoram till the 2018 assembly elections, but due to anti-incumbency against party president and 4-time Chief Minister PU Lal Thanhawla and Mizo National Front coming together with BJP-led alliance, Congress got only 40 seats in the 2018 elections. Got 5 seats. Mizo National Front chief and current Chief Minister Zoramthanga took oath as the Chief Minister for the third time. However, Zoramthanga's situation seems to be worsening in 2023.
The violence that has been going on in Manipur for the last 5 months has increased the distance between Zoramthanga and NDA. Zoramthanga had expressed strong opposition to the government over the Manipur violence and called for the NDA to be out. On the other hand, now the anti-incumbency against Zoramthanga is at its peak, Congress has now tried to take advantage of it, but in this the fight will not be 2 but 3, which makes the Mizoram elections more exciting. In 2017, former IPS officer and Congress MP Lalduhoma had founded a new party, Zoram Nationalist Party, to end the duopoly of Congress and MNF in Mizoram Assembly.
Political News - In the 2018 elections, Lalduhoma's3 party had secured the second position, defeating Congress Com. According to political pundits and surveys, no party is seen getting absolute majority in this election, but there is a big increase in the vote share and seats of Congress and Zoram Nationalist Party, which can increase the problems of Zoramthanga. .
The election bugle has been sounded and public meetings are being held with full enthusiasm by all the parties. This time, the elections of these five states will not only decide the condition and direction of the general elections to be held in 2024 but can also rejuvenate the future politics and many big leaders, which we will know on December 3.

Mukesh Bhakar from Landun, Manisha Pawar from Jodhpur, Dr. Archana Sharma from Malviya Nagar, Manoj Meghwal from Sujangarh, Rita Choudhary from Mandawa, Indraj Singh Gurjar from Virat Nagar, international gold medallist and politician Krishna Poonia from Sadulpur.
Congress Nominates Candidates in Rajasthan Elections

Nine applicants who were female were included in the first list of the 33 members.
In 2018, the Congress secured 100 seats, while the ruling BJP managed to get just 72. Following many days of impasse, the grand old party named Gehlot as the new chief minister, with Sachin Pilot, the state Congress president at the time, serving as his deputy.

Following Madhya Pradesh, it is now Rajasthan's turn. The names of BJP candidates have been finalized for 24 seats; the list will be released soon.
The first list of BJP candidates includes most of the seats where the party's position is strong. Additionally, candidates' names may also be announced for seats considered relatively weaker, about five to six in number. The national leadership of BJP had requested a list of potential candidates for approximately 65 seats from the leaders participating in the core committee about two weeks ago.
After Madhya Pradesh, the first list of BJP candidates for Rajasthan could be announced at any time. The party has confirmed candidates for more than a dozen assembly seats. Following consensus in the State Core Committee on these names, the national leadership of the party has also expressed agreement. Candidates' names will be declared for both strong and relatively weaker seats. The first list of BJP candidates includes most of the seats where the party's position is strong. Additionally, candidates' names may also be announced for seats considered relatively weaker, about five to six in number. Two weeks ago, the national leadership had requested the list of candidates. About two weeks ago, the national leadership of BJP had requested a list of potential candidates for approximately 65 seats from the leaders participating in the core committee. These leaders had submitted their respective lists to the leadership. Consensus was reached on one name among all leaders for two dozen seats. Consequently, it was decided to release candidates' names for these seats in the first list. A member of the core committee disclosed that Lok Sabha MPs Diya Kumari, Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria, and Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena have almost reached consensus on contesting the assembly elections. According to sources, the first list will include the names of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, opposition leader Rajendra Rathore, Deputy Leader Satish Poonia, Kirori Lal, and Diya Kumari. These seats will be included in the first list. Out of the 200 assembly constituencies in Rajasthan, BJP holds a strong position in Bundi, Kota South, Ladpura, Ramganjmandi, Jhalrapatan, Khanpur, Asind, Bhilwara, Vidhadhar Nagar, Sanganer, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Ajmer North and Ajmer South, Bhopalgarh, Bikaner East, Ratanpura, Alwar City, Sojat, Pali, Bali, Sursagar, Chaumu, Fulera, and Jhotwara. The names were submitted to the national leadership by the core committee members. These seats are considered the strongest for BJP. Moreover, in the last two to three elections, candidates from these five to six seats have faced defeat. Their names will also be in the first list. According to sources, Navalgarh, Sikaraya, Lalsot, Fatehpur, Dantaramgarh, Vallabhnagar, Badi, Bassi, Todabheem, Nathdwara, Bagidora, Sanchore, and Sardarpura are included in the list as the weakest seats for BJP. Relatives of MPs and senior leaders will not receive tickets. A member of the core committee revealed that there is a clear directive from the national leadership that tickets will not be given to any relative of a sitting MP or senior leader. MP Jasakaur Meena wants to field his daughter Archana from Sawai Madhopur, Rahul Kaswa wants to field his father Ramsingh from Sadulshahar, and MLA Suryakanta Vyas wants to secure a ticket for his son. However, according to the party's established guidelines, contesting for these seats is being considered difficult. Out of 15 seats, victory was only achieved on three. The argument against fielding relatives in elections is that in the 2018 elections, BJP had given tickets to relatives of leaders on 15 seats. Out of these, only three managed to win, while the rest lost. Therefore, the party believes that voters do not favor dynastic politics. Read the full article

Hades II Deep Dive (Part I)
This is not because I expect any of this to actually be true - I just have too much excitement about this game and decided to apply my hyperfixation to ◇ RESEARCH ◇ and ◇ NARRATIVE GUESSING ◇!
This is gonna be a long deep dive, and I’m gonna try to structure it coherently by dividing it into sections: characters, setting, and miscellaneous. Sources will be provided in a bibliography and in-text, because none of us can escape MLA no matter how far we run. Here we go!
[Edit after one entire day of drafting: when I said it was going to be long, I really meant "this is going to be massive." So this is part 1 of TBD. Please enjoy...whatever madness this is.]
PART I | PART II |
CHARACTERS
Melinöe
Mythology
The explosion of videos and articles on Melinöe after the announcement of the game means that you’ve likely encountered some of the mythological history behind her (and by some, I mean all, since there’s little surviving primary material on her.) The hymn in which she appears is Orphic Hymn 70. As always, there are a few different translations, but the broad strokes agree.
Melinöe is described as “saffron-cloaked” (Athanassakis, 2013), “saffron-robed” (Mastros, 2018), or even “saffron-veil’d” (Taylor, 1792). This is clearly where she draws her orange top from. She is said to be a “two-bodied specter” (Athanassakis) or “a phantasm, two-formed” (Mastros), which is probably where the ghost arm comes from, though Taylor interprets the text as limbs “partly black...and partly white.” (If I were reaching, I could say this is why much of the first part of the trailer is done in silhouette, with lots of contrasting dark and light.)
She was born at the mouth of Cocytus, one of the five rivers of the Underworld (more on that later). According to the hymn, her father is Zeus, who took on the guise of Hades and coupled with her mother Persephone.
Here’s where we get into the fun stuff, though. In Mastros' and Athanassakis’ translations, Melinöe is a “nymph of the earth” who doesn’t just live in the underworld - she appears on the surface at night in different forms to drive mortals to madness. Interestingly, the hymn seems to celebrate this ability, framing it as driving the madness out of souls. The hymn ends with the speaker beseeching the goddess to “show to the initiates a kindly and holy face,” and in Taylor’s version specifically, to bless “mystics, and [their] rites divine” in shrines.
The other surviving piece of Melinöe mythology is a bronze tablet from ancient Pergamon, depicting three goddesses: Dione (a Titan and the mother of Aphrodite), Phoebe (at first considered a Titan and grandmother to Artemis and Apollo, and later conflated with Artemis herself), and Nyx. Inscribed around the outside are the words “O Persephone, O Melinoë, O Leucophryne.” The purposes are unclear, but it may be a divination or scrying tablet.

In-Game
It’s debatable how much of this mythology will influence the actual character, especially given that this hymn is Orphic, and therefore comes from an unreliable (though lovable!) source in-universe. They’ve made some (wise) changes already, including ditching the Zeus-in-disguise angle to make Melinöe’s father Hades straight up.
It’s clear, though, that they’ve done their homework as usual: Melinöe’s clothing and her ghost arm are straight from the hymn. The frequent motif of the moon makes sense (as does her weapons being called “weapons of Night”), as Melinöe walks on the surface at night. And her being on the surface instead of in Hades has a mythological precedent, if Supergiant wanted to do a completely reversed "trying to break into the Underworld." (I don't think this is the case, but it's there.) She also has connections to the mystical elements Supergiant wants to explore, blessing shrines and being invoked in divination. For example, this could be a shrine here:

It will be interesting to see if the Titans on the tablet show up in any form, or if the List of Fated Prophecies is replaced by a divination tablet.
We can also make predictions off the original game. It’s a no-brainer that Supergiant will want some contrast with the first game, so I’m pretty confident that Melinöe will be serious and dutiful to a fault, where Zagreus was rebellious and banter-y. Just look at...well, all her lines from the trailer - “Not good enough” ; “No. I was born for this.” - as well as this screenshot:

[“I’ve no excuses for my failure, Headmistress. But I swear to you and all the gods above and below, I’ll slay the Titan yet!”]
That’s not a rebel. That’s someone so responsible they’re gonna grind themselves into the ground. (Which also fits with her apparent deference to her father Hades - of course Hades is going to favor a kid who does what she’s told.)
Narratively, of course, this means that she’ll probably arc toward rebellion/coming into her own, so we’ll see how that goes, and if her brother Zagreus helps any with that.

EDMONTON – An Ontario MP and an Alberta MLA will not be participating in the 2021 iteration of the notorious al-Quds Day hatefest, following successful advocacy by B’nai Brith Canada.
Marwan Tabbara, Independent Member of Parliament for Kitchener South-Hespeler, and Rod Loyola, NDP Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Ellerslie, had been listed among the speakers for the online Canadian al-Quds Day event, to take place on May 8.
Shortly after B’nai Brith reached out to Loyola and Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley, Loyola relayed his withdrawal from the event. Following a direct conversation with B’nai Brith, Tabbara backed out as well. B’nai Brith explained that al-Quds Day calls for the elimination of Israel, rather than a two-state solution, and has been a continuous source of antisemitism since it arrived in Canada.
At last year’s online al-Quds Day event, a speaker described all Israelis as “thieves and murderers.” In 2018, a featured speaker said he was praying for the “eradication” of Israelis. In 2013 and 2016, speakers called for Israelis to be shot, and in 2014, a Muslim cleric called for “Yahoodi” (Arabic for “Jewish”) to be “dismantled”. The 2018 speaker, Shafiq Hudda, was also set to headline the 2021 event.
Tabbara was Chair of the Parliamentary Canada-Palestine Friendship Group until June of last year, when he withdrew from the Liberal caucus in the House of Commons. Tabbara also told B’nai Brith that he had never committed to participating in the al-Quds Day event and that organizers used his name without his knowledge.
“No Canadian elected official should lend their name to promote this blatantly antisemitic event,” said Michael Mostyn, Chief Executive Officer of B’nai Brith Canada. “We thank MP Tabbara and MLA Loyola for listening to the concerns of the Jewish community and ultimately doing the right thing.
“B’nai Brith will continue to speak out whenever and wherever the forces of Jew-hatred attempt to exploit public figures in a bid to promote their toxic message.”
The May 8 event is being promoted on social media by the so-called “Canadian Defenders for Human Rights,” or CD4HR. Firas al-Najim, the group’s manager, filmed himself harassing Jewish seniors in a Toronto park in 2019 and led a failed campaign to boycott various Jewish-owned businesses in the Greater Toronto Area.

Lethbridge Police Officer Monitoring Activities
Ms Phillips: We need to trust law enforcement. If there’s no trust, there’s no public safety, and in Lethbridge citizens need to see there are concrete steps being taken to restore trust. A story broke over the weekend containing disturbing details about how the Lethbridge Police Service has treated me, a reality I’ve been living with for four years. I filed a Police Act complaint in 2017 for in-uniform officers taking surreptitious photos of me and disseminating them on Facebook accompanied by probably defamatory statements. I got the results of that complaint in 2018. I thought it was all done. I didn’t share it publicly. I didn’t even tell my colleagues.
Unbeknownst to me, there was a separate investigation undertaken that I was never told about, in which I was a party apparently but never informed. That 2018 investigation found that LPS officers made a plan to follow me explicitly for political reasons. The investigation that was withheld from me was leaked to Medicine Hat TV and reported in July 2020. It came as a shock to me and to the country. I appealed the whole sorry mess. I then requested my personal documents. I got back 9,300 pages of mostly redacted files, but what I did get in there was a sheet of paper showing that multiple officers accessed my personal files several times with no law enforcement purpose listed.
Here we have an MLA and a minister that’s been photographed. A plan to follow her was hatched. Her records were searched. False content about her was circulated by in-uniform police officers thousands of times, and who knows what else. I don’t feel safe in my community. No wonder it is so hard to recruit women into politics. But I am not a victim. I was certainly a target by police officers who don’t understand the basic lines of professional conduct. I’ll be fine, but I am going to see this through on behalf of all of the people who don’t have the resources I have to improve the way law enforcement conducts itself.
I have dedicated my adult life and my career to democracy. Those principles will guide everything I do to make sure there is accountability at the Lethbridge Police Service.

Your reflections should be attentive to the intersectionalities of race, ethnicity, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic class and gender
4.Include Images, video, audio, links or other media elements for your selection.Make sure you cite everything you use. Please make sure to use either MLA or Chicago 16th Style for citations. The more media-rich the post, the higher the grade.
The first media selection I will be writing about is the hashtag #oscarssowhite. April Reign created the hashtag five years ago when the nominees for the 2015 Oscars were announced. All 20 acting nominations were given exclusively to white actors. In 2015, the Academy membership was overwhelmingly white and male (92% and 75% respectively.) Reign was watching the nominee announcement one morning while getting ready for work and immediately noticed the lack of diversity, prompting her to tweet “#OscarsSoWhite they asked to touch my hair.” This created a snowball effect of more tweets: “#OscarsSoWhite they wear Birkenstocks in the wintertime.” and “#OscarsSoWhite they have a perfect credit score.” Franklin Leonard, the founder of Black List, noted that this was only a year after “12 Years a Slave” won and how minority communities felt they were led to believe that there had been a real change in the white-washed Hollywood industry. In 2015, there also weren’t any women directors nominated or any visibly disabled people, so although #oscarssowhite directly refers to race, it’s really about the underrepresentation of all minority groups. This has been a common trend from our class materials. White people are constantly put in the center of all the media we consume, in television and in movies. We are constantly being taught that white means neutrality, a white person could be anything. They can play characters that are complex and are given proper arcs and development and their race has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Something that is interesting to note is that in the Oscars, the few women that have been nominated for best actress or supporting actress, a large part of them are playing roles of women going through hardships, or women who have lived a life full of struggles. Cynthia Erivo was nominated for the role of Harriet Tumban in “Harriet” in the 2020 Oscars. Erivo portrayed the life of a woman born into slavery who escaped and became an abolitionist and political activist. In 2014, Lupita Nyong’o won best supporting actress for her performance in “12 Years a Slave” but got snubbed from even a nomination for her part in Jordan Peele's critically acclaimed horror movie “Us.” Nyong’o faces the task of playing two completely separate actors, so what’s the difference between her characters in both movies? Trauma. I feel like this relates closely to Dyer’s “On the Matter of Whiteness.” Lupita Nyong’o gets recognition from the Academy when she plays a character based entirely around her race (and the suffering that came as a result), but when she plays a fully realized, multifaceted character (two actually) in “Us”, a nomination is not merited. This goes back to the tradition of white representing relatability and neutrality and non-white meaning a representation of their race.
There’s a trend of seeing nominations for Oscars throughout the years being predominantly about the experiences and lives of straight white men. With the larger part of the Academy being that demographic, we can infer that many times, the way they choose actors and films to nominate, it has to do with the lens they view it through. Perhaps if the Academy was more inclusive in its members (more women, more people of color, more people from the LGBTQ+ community), Oscar nomination lists would look much more different. Through the entirety of the Oscars (over 90 years), only a total of five women have ever been nominated in the category for best director and out of all of them, only one has won, being Kathryn Bigelow for “The Hurt Locker” in 2010. There have been some changes in the Oscars since 2015. In 2020, Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” made history by being the first non-English film to win best picture, and also getting five other awards, including best director and best original screenplay. However, none of the nominations went to the cast despite their top tier performances. Also in 2020, Greta Gerwig was snubbed in the best director category for “Little Women.” Gerwig was nominated in 2018 for “Lady Bird”, being the only woman nominated for best director in the last decade. In 2019, three out of four of the acting categories were won by non-white actors (Rami Malek, Mahershala Ali, and Regina King.) Since the start of #oscarssowhite, the Academy has doubled the number of POC members from 8% to 16%, which is still ridiculously low. Incredible directors and films with representation and diversity continue getting snubbed by the Academy (Kasi Lemmons for “Harriet”, Lulu Wang for “The Farewell”, Lorene Scafaria for “Hustlers.”)
In Peggy McIntosh’s list at the end of “Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack”, she includes:
6. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely and positively represented.
12. I can go into a book shop and count on finding the writing of my race represented, into a supermarket and find the staple foods that fit with my cultural traditions, into a hairdresser’s shop and find someone who can deal with my hair.
26. I can easily buy posters, postcards, picture books, greeting cards, dolls, toys, and children’s magazines featuring people of my race.
All of these have to do with finding proper representation of your race. This is something that white people don’t really have to worry or think about as much. We’ve seen it year after year at the Oscars, nominee lists full of white actors and directors. The lack of people of color on these lists has nothing to do with their merit or the quality of their work. It doesn’t have to do with box office numbers or how the audience or critics respond to it. This problem is ingrained into the whiteness of the Academy, and until they open up a space for diversity and inclusivity, the situation won’t ever truly change.

Hey kids, overpopulation is a myth and Thanos was a little b*tch.
(Links are integrated into the text cause this ain’t done in APA or MLA, but still, do some searches and come to your own opinions. That’ll help you practice researching on the web and having critical thinking skills. And some articles are hidden behind pay walls, but I wanted to make sure you guys could at least read the first page for your own eyes.)
Don’t let the greedy rich or big corporations fool you into thinking that impoverished people around the world and in your local ghettos having babies is why world hunger/thirst exists.
We have shizltons of food. According to this 2018 report from the World Hunger Education Service, we’re already producing enough food in the world to support every person living in it. Additionally, according to this article in the Journal of Sustainable Agriculture that was written by Eric Holt-Giménez, et al., the world’s food production is on par with providing sustenance for about 10 billion people (an abridged version of the JoSA article is here on HuffPost, thank you Mr. Holt-Giménez). As of, aboooout...5 hours ago when I first started writing this post, the world population was at 7.77 billion, and that’s rounding up. We have another 2.23 billion people that need to be born right this second for that fear to be actual Danger Zone levels that common media is insisting we’re getting close to (a whole 28.7% population jump right at this moment, when we’re only increasing by about 1% per year at the moment). That, and our methods for food production increases the amount of food at a higher exponential rate than the human reproduction rate.
Ah, actually, according to Dr. Doug Boucher on the Union of Concerned Scientists blog, human reproduction hasn’t been exponential for a while. Reproduction rates have been in roughly a straight line since the last exponential curve that occurred and ended in the 1960s... Hm. Everyone remember baby boomers? There’s a reason that generation is called baby boomer—all the post-war survivors were very, very interested in passing on their genes and continuing the human race after such a drastic event caused them to believe that they would not survive long. That high of an increase was never going to be constant, so the idea that the world’s population is still increasing in the same rate as a post World War generation is shortsighted at best and flat out stupid at worst. As of the 1960s, worldwide birth rates have been on a gradual decrease, with some countries now complaining that it is decreasing too much (Yeah, I’m looking at you China...and, surprisingly, Europe’s looking a little worried, too). Still, we will still need to continue food production in order to stay above the need line since we’re at about 1% general world population growth each year now, however, as The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations states, the main issue among others regarding food production is not to provide more for already wealthy nations or that there would be too many people to provide food for, but to efficiently distribute food to developing and/or impoverished countries or poor communities, as noted in their 2002, 2006, and 2012 reports.
Now, that was just food. Water’s a similar yet different story. Even though only 2.5% of the water on Earth is fresh and only about 1% of that is usable because the ice caps are big chunks of freshwater, the Earth is pretty dang big. For example, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) states in an estimate that freshwater lakes make up about .26% of our freshwater amounts...which is about 21,830 cubic miles of water. The average U.S. shower head lets out 2.5 gallons of water per minute. If you take a 10 minute shower....nah, let’s go further—if you take a 20 minute shower, that’s 50 gallons of freshwater for cleaning your body. Terrible, right? Well, the conversion between gallons and cubic miles is to divide the gallons by 1.101e+12. For those of you who don’t like letters in math or scientific notation, that “e” indicates how many times the “point” needs to move forwards or backwards.
So, let’s do the math. To convert 50 gallons to it’s needed amount in cubic miles, we have to divide 50 by 1.101e+12, or, 50 / 1,101,000,000,000. What’s that Johnny? Looks like your 20 minute shower just used up about 4.5408e-11 cubic miles of freshwater!! Still don’t like letters in your math? That’s 0.000000000045408 cubic miles of water! Just for funzies, if all 7.77 billion people took a 20 minute shower at the same time, each one using 0.000000000045408 cubic miles of water, everyone would use about 0.35282016 cubic miles of water at the same time. But what about baths? In the U.S., a common bathtub holds about 80 gallons (302 liters) of water. That’s not counting the small bathtubs that only hold 40 gallons, but I’m going for the larger denominator here. So, once again, we have to use that equation to get some cubic miles: 80 / 1,101,000,000,000 = 0.000000000072653 cubic miles per 80 gallon bath. But really, who uses the whole bathtub when taking a bath? But again, for funzies, if all 7.77 billion people, including infants, took a full, 80 gallon bath all at once, that would be using about 0.56451381 cubic miles of water. How many cubic miles of freshwater rivers do we have? 21,830? You mean we haven’t broken a single cubic mile of water yet even with everyone having a spa day? That’s craaaazy.
Does food/water production loss occur? Yeah, it does. The average loss occurs at all points of production, but you see a bigger impact of loss at consumer levels, according to the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). I’m not talking about a dad cooking a few too many hash browns for breakfast, I’m talking about major chain restaurants that buy up large amounts of food and end up not using them before expiration. The same for water—while sometimes usable water is not always accessible, more would be had it not been for water pollution caused by major corporations and governments who don’t take the time to clean and replace their city pipes to make water usable IM F*CKIN LOOKING AT YOU, FLINT, MICHIGAN. Additionally, water goes through a constant recycling process, thus the Earth never runs out of water. So we really don’t need or have to dig and construct through Native American burial grounds to make pipelines, all while using resources that pollute and cause further issues with the environment—casual reminder that clean energy is ready to go at any time and some places have already started the move to 100% renewable energy and it could potentially start with the right planning—we just need to redistribute the water in ways that make a bit more sense. The same with the food; the major issue is making sure that the people who needs it gets it, not how much is currently being produced.
Ah, speaking of other resources, all of this stuff is interconnected, you know. As you might have read in the previously provided articles, food and water production is integrated with other resources, whether it is in the production of those resources or the resources are used to produce food/water. Corporations use high amounts of freshwater to provide energy for our crops while sometimes mixing the water with harmful pesticides or feeding the animals with water and food pumped full of harmful drugs (not all the drugs are bad, but some are), then other corporations use and waste tons of food that end up getting dumped into landfills and producing enough methane to give cow farts a run for their money. “Overpopulation” has been attached to hunger, climate change, economic deficits, poverty, etc., but what it really looks like for the food issue at least is that it’s an issue with misplaced distribution and a waste of resources at the usage level on a macroeconomic scale. I would hazard to state that, considering the interconnected nature of different living necessities, the lack of adequate distribution is the cause for the other issues as well. In fact, it is proven by several articles and studies listed that it is not “overpopulation” but poverty that is the Number 1 cause for hunger and a lack of access to water. But that’s another rabbit hole.
So then, if it’s not an individual person issue or because of more babies being born each year, especially to people in certain *coughnonwhiteand/orcolonizedcough* countries, I guess you could say it’s... corporate lies.
Yep. Corporate lies + alternating between microaggressive and macroaggressive racism combo. You know, considering “who’s having the babies.”
Not saying that you’re a fool if you want to help the environment in your little ways, like monitoring personal food waste and taking shorter showers to keep the world well fed and watered. In fact, doing so is good in their own little way for personal mindfulness and beliefs as long as you don’t do that thinking your micro-action is having the macro-impact of a big industry.
I’m saying maybe shake your fist at your favorite restaurants and corporate leaders before looking at your local ghetto or across any borders and wondering if you should reenact that part of slavery and/or colonization where people were forcefully sterilized.
#static speaks#overpopulation#world hunger#water crisis#myth#i was listening to a YT video and this guy started going on overpopulation and I got peeved#so i decided to write a whole essay about it#it's been nearly 5 hours since I watched that video#if only i had this same motivation for my personal writing lmao

”hi, thank you for having this space here & offering your life experience. do you have any advice on how to get across a large amount of relevant personal information & personal history when you’re seeing a new therapist?
i haven’t been through anything as bad as you, although i’ve still been through enough chronologically i could make autobio comics as vast as yours if i wanted, & i’m mentally ill enough i feel as though it’d be actually personally irresponsible, to myself & to others, to not seek help & to let my past catch up to me & let my mental illness run unchecked.
it’s difficult with therapists though, bringing up something alarming from the past that they haven’t heard me talk about before can derail an entire session as they dig for info when all i really want to do is focus on something else in the present, but at the same time without that past context of whatever happened, what i’m saying in the present might not make any sense at all.
i’ve been writing it all down, which is valuable to me as well as a person with increasingly severe memory problems related to my trauma, but it can get to be too much or too confusing or too unsorted & almost makes me wish there was some sort of MLA format for writing about trauma just to give me a sense of direction to either follow or subvert instead of being just totally lost here.
i’m just curious if you’ve ever done this before, if you have any advice on how to streamline the communication process til mostly relevant information is left (maybe saving the rest for later) cause while i know it’s not quite this simple i don’t want to spend eons only going over my past. thank you so much! 💜”
Hi beautiful,
It sounds like you’re already pretty practised at documenting your life, which can only help you. Any information you can give to a new therapist is useful. But you are absolutely right - so many of the details in our history, particularly if they pertain to trauma, can completely derail a session from what you really wanted to talk about.
I’ve seen a number of new therapists over the years, and I’ve found that they all seem to make the same basic notes when trying to get to know you. You could make a kind of schematic for them to have as a reference which really cuts down on the ground work. It’s OK to give your therapist notes to read in their own time (and a good one will).
1. First is a diagram of your support network. Sometimes this looks like a family tree, if you are in close contact with your family, but it should also include partners, friends, and any work colleagues of note. You can use lines between each person and yourself to illustrate what kind of relationship it is - i.e. how intimate, or how stressful. For example, I would put a line between myself and my wife that indicates ‘very intimate, but low stress’ whereas with myself and my mum I would indicate ‘quite intimate, high stress’. Figure out what kind of shorthand works best for your diagram so that a therapist looking at it can easily determine the significance of each person. It makes it much easier when you have to say something like ‘I had a fight with Lisa today’.
2. Next is a timeline. You can include your childhood or not, completely up to you and how you want to spend your time. Include on your timeline anything in your life that you consider a big change - moving cities, graduating, new relationships or breakups, coming out, and of course any traumas. You can give as much or as little detail as you want. It’s also OK to include notes such as ‘March 2018 - big breakup with Tom, have already processed with previous therapist, no longer a source of pain’. Again, as much or as little detail as you want.
3. Finally, a list of your diagnoses (if you have one) and any treatments you have previously had that have or haven’t worked. For example, on my list, I would write ‘anorexia, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, bipolar, OCD, PTSD. Greatest success with CBT and medication, limited success with EMDR’.
You can tell your therapist as much or as little as you want, but feel free to give them notes that will help you. You can even write a mission statement if you want. ‘The reason I am coming to these sessions is because I want to process my feelings around X’. Your sessions are YOURS, and you get to choose how they are spent. I know it can be difficult to advocate for yourself, but you are also allowed to steer a session back on track if your therapist is getting bogged down in details. ‘I know you are really interested in my relationship with my parents, but today I would really like to talk about my nightmares’. Again, they are YOUR sessions, YOU get to choose what they cover.
Therapy can be daunting, but it can also be very helpful. I hope you will fall into a comfortable relationship with your practitioner that helps you to move forward on your journey. It sounds like you are taking really positive steps for your mental health.
Stay strong beautiful. You are worth it.
All my love,
Khale xox
