Random Thoughts and Imaginings

I think about a lot of things...constantly. Here are the thoughts that have been swirling in my mind of late. First off, delivery of the vaccine: it looks like many countries are struggling with rolling it out, not because they don’t have enough product, but because they either don’t have an effective system, (the US is in this position), or they simply don’t have the staff, even working them to exhaustion, to make it happen, (this is Canada and the U.K.). I know that countries have asked for retired doctors and nurses to come back, and thank you...many have done so, but here are my thoughts...remembering I’m neither a medical or logisticsprofessional, merely a curious person obsessed with problem solving. I’m wondering a few things...first off, I don’t know how much it is to reinstate your medical license, but can we have a limited one at a severely reduced cost, that’s only good for administering vaccine? Kind of like when you win big in Las Vegas, (like that ever happens, right?), and you get a Social Security number assigned that doesn’t allow you to work, only to be taxed. This would maybe entice physicians back for a short time with minimal outlay. Secondly, why don’t we ask those returning retirees if they would like to go to these outlying, remote areas? I can personally attest to the beauty of many of these places, and how lucky you feel to be able to see them. Many are so remote, or so prohibitively expensive to visit that you would never go, so turn this deed into an opportunity. Just my thoughts.

My next random thought is around contact tracing: I’m wondering how many affairs have been disrupted by contact tracing? Or if those “unknown” origins are from people protecting the fact that they’re having an affair? How many people have had their Bill Clinton/Monika Lewinski moment, (“I did not have sex with that women”)? I can imagine the conversation, “Honey it’s so strange that both you and my best friend have COVID, yet we haven’t sent them in a month due to restrictions, and neither of you know where you got it.” Things that make you go, “hmm.” This particular thought has been wandering around in my mind since a conversation with a journalist friend about whether people just “forgot” they had done something.

Lastly, in light of the 3 politicians in eastern Canada who have been busted either taking a tropical vacation, (with everyone being asked not to travel and to stay home), or having a bunch of people over for Christmas, then posting it on social media, (what an idiot), there’s been a lot of talk in my house around whether our socialized medical system should cover people who have been busted for breaking the rules. Why should all of us pay, (both financially and in our own lives), why should health workers be put at higher risk and further exhausted, because of their stupidity? Maybe if they knew that their actions would result in their insurance being voided, (kind of like your car insurance is here in B.C if you’re in a car accident and are found to be under the influence), they may reconsider their actions? Also, move them to the VERY end of the vaccine line. That goes for the church holding people as well. As a non religious person, I find it very uncharitable that their “right” to gather would be seen as Christian by the very person they profess to follow. I guess I’m just tired of not being able to gather, not to hug my parents, doing the “right thing”, while others selfishly put their own agendas ahead of everyone else’s in this country. Okay, rant over.

Tomorrow night we are going out for dinner. A dinner for two. Liquor sales are cut off by 8pm, so good job our reservation is at 7:20, lol! Then we’re home for the home wine tour.
