They had been friends for years. Friends. That’s what their relationship was. That’s what it had to be. Except for Amy it was different. Will meant the world to her. 

But  she knew that to him, they were nothing more than friends. So she tried to bury her feelings for him, with Tom, with Iain, with Rash. They were all nice and all three relationships ended amicably. One thing that was missing? They weren’t Will. 

Amy’s mind was racing, Will had gone out to a scene over an hour ago, the casualties were starting to roll in. But there was no sign of Will, as she stood at the desk sorting through files she heard Jan’s radio go off as she walked past “ Secondary collapse at the scene. Doctor Noble’s been caught under some debris after the patient was successfully extracted. We need a second Doctor out here ASAP.” Jan and Amy locked eyes

 “Amy...” 

She put down the files and looked across the reception, catching sight of Dylan “I’ll go.” she stepped out from the desk and moved to Dylan “Doctor Keogh. I need you to take over for a while, Will’s been trapped at a scene and they need another Doctor and..” Dylan looked at her and nodded “Doctor Knight, I will  take over here.  Take a breath and go.” She nodded and thanked him. 

Running past Jan to change she called “Wait for me! I’ll be right back.”  She quickly changed and put on an appropriate pair of shoes and she walked quickly out of the building to meet Jan and Iain. Iain then moved and opened the back door of the ambulance for her “Thank you”

Iain smiled at her then “Yeah no problem.” as Jan pulled out of the ambulance bay and set off toward the scene he watched her, chewing her lip as her leg bounced with nerves “Hey Amy? Are you alright?” She looked at him then “Huh.. oh yeah.. I’m fine it’s just…”

“It’s just that it’s Will it’s okay.” She nodded then “Sorry uh… what are we looking at once we get there?” Iain bit his lip then “Amy. I need you to not panic” she looked at him “They managed to extract the last patient before the secondary collapse but…”

“Oh God…” Iain took her hand and squeezed it noticing her start to panic “Amy. listen. They started working on extracting him as soon as it happened. Last time we checked in they were close to where it happened. They will find him.” she nodded, her leg starting to bounce again. 

They drove for 10 more minutes before Jan called “Pulling onto the scene now!” As the ambulance slowed to a stop Amy pulled the door open and jumped out. Following her quickly he grabbed her arm “Amy! Amy wait! We have to establish what’s going on!” 

“We know what’s going on Iain! He’s trapped!” he pulled her into a hug then “Hey. We will find him.” She struggled against the hug but eventually grew tired of fighting and hugged him back. They stood like that for a few minutes and then: “We’ve got him! Minor injuries but in need of pain relief! Could also do with more hands to get him down!” and with that the two broke into a run as Jan sighed and shouted after them “Just be careful you two! We don’t need to be calling more doctors out!”

Once they got to him Amy let out a breath she hadn’t realised she’d been holding  “Well hello Sir, how are we doing?” she asked relief flooding her as he cracked a smile. “Ah you know me. M’grand.” he laughed slightly wincing as Iain and  the rescue team moved him onto the backboard “Alright love we’ll get that sorted” she administered the pain relief and followed close behind carefully as they lifted him down from the pile of debris and Jan stepped forward “Alright boys we’ll take him from here” loading him into the ambulance. “The-- the patient…” Will asked “In the ED and being treated love.” she smiled “What did I tell you about playing the hero?” she chided as Will watched her lips he smiled, and locking eyes with her “God I want to kiss you” she smiled   “Here? Right now?” Will nodded “Yes here. Yes now.. But only if you want to.” she glanced at Iain who had a glint of knowing in his eye “Don’t mind me”

She laughed slightly “Oh shut up Iain.” she sat down next to Will “So you want to kiss me?” she took his hand “I do” she leaned down and kissed him softly “Amy…?” he asked as she pulled away, she laughed “Yes Will?”

“I’d like to take you for a drink.” she smiled softly “Oh yeah? Okay we’ll go for a drink” he smiled “Kiss me again?” he asked as she leaned down and kissed him again she heard “God I love you” she smiled and pulled away “William Noble it’s always been you.”

He flicked his finger again, on the screen to bring up the next slide. Ah, yes. Berenice Wolfe. Another new face, surely to be remembered. A former army trauma surgeon. Iraq. Afghanistan. And now, according to HR, a consultant on AAU. A co-lead, in fact, along with Ms Campbell. Serena had kept things brief on Berenice when he’d asked, only giving a barebones explanation as to how she had come to share her ward for over a year in relative peace. 

Ms Wolfe had apparently been a locum, to begin with, until Guy had recognised the acclaim the surgeon could bring and offered her a permanent post as a floating consultant between Keller and AAU. It was, Henrik surmised, another power game intent on destabilising Serena Campbell. If Guy had had his way, Ms Campbell would have quit altogether, or admitted to her overloaded capacity concerning her mother’s ailing health, and prioritise her deputy CEO duties in order to keep him happy. Henrik didn’t like those sorts of games. 

But that had never happened. Instead of being Guy’s creature, Ms Wolfe had gone the opposite way. She had rallied around Serena and kept the Acute Admissions Unit on an even keel when the other consultant had felt overwhelmed and unable to ask for help. When Ms Wolfe had become co-lead, it was not on Guy’s order, but at the forthright suggestion from his deputy, weeks prior to her mother’s death.

AAU had been a stronghold ever since. Despite Serena’s ambitions for CEO being dashed, when she had called Henrik, it was as calm as he’d ever heard her. Henrik’s eyes narrowed on the photograph of Ms Wolfe. A similar age to Serena, with a rather hawkish look to her and blonde curls. Aesthetically unremarkable to him, but he could see the drive in her eyes. Her background suggested nothing less. A knight to Serena’s queen on the chessboard, perhaps?

i like doing headcanons about a character’s background in case you can’t tell. we know canonically that his father was an irishman and that both of his parents died (illness? cholera i think but im not sure, need to check) and this probably happened when he was a kid. cholera as far as i know is spread through unclean water and happened (and.. still happens in some parts of the world) in places with a large population, so kieran probably lived in a city for a lot of his childhood, and he probably kicked around there for a while as a street kid after his parents died, before getting out west somewhere.

i like to think that he discovered pretty early on that he was good with horses, that he knew how to work with them and enjoyed working with them, and that he joined up with the o’driscolls less because of any sort of shared ethnic identity (though his family being irish certainly HELPED) and more because like.... it was a job, it was somewhere he could be put to use and have a purpose

Another note: My official editor is on a family trip so I’m self-editing this week. If you spot any errors, feel free to point them out and I apologize in advance! Also, sorry for the amount of dialogue

You had been in a sour mood recently because of various reasons but the main causes were stress and sleep deprivation. So far, you’ve done your best to stay positive and appear cheerful in front of others but, now you were home and on the couch. This meant you could finally let the down the façade.

Adding to your troubles was the fact that your boyfriend had disappeared earlier. He didn’t mention where but, you assumed it was probably somewhere for work. Heaving a sigh, you looked around the room for something to do. Seeing nothing, you slumped against the sofa and grumbled something incoherent.

Ironically, the world outside your house was nothing but peaceful. Oh how you yearned to be as cheerful as the children playing outside or the birds chirping nearby. Alas, there was nothing to brighten your mood.

As if on cue, you saw Childe enter the living room through the corner of your eye. In his hands was some sort of furry ball that you couldn’t make out. Then, you heard a high pitched mew. Perking up, you turned to confirm your beliefs.

Seeing the tiny kitten he was clutching immediately erased all the negative emotions you held. Something about the sight of your boyfriend carrying something so small and fluffy brought a smile to your face. “So, I take it you like it?” he asked.

“Of course, it’s adorable. What’s their name?” you said as you reached for the kitten. It mewled once again as it rested its paw on the back your hand. At this, your heart melted and you picked it up. The kitten was as soft as a bunny blessed by the god of clouds and you gave it a loose hug.

“I was thinking you should pick,” he said in response.

“Hmm... Tortilla,” you giggled.

“Huh? Why Tortilla?”

“Hehe, it sounds like Tartaglia.”

“What? No it doesn’t,” he said, scowling.

A/N: I was literally so tempted to name the cat Tartacki Majax, also credit to my friend for the idea of “What? Why tortilla?” “bc it sounds like your name” “NO IT DOESNT”

You didn’t respond, instead laughing once more before asking, “Hey Ajax, where’d you find a cat?” The harbinger hummed, “On the streets, don’t worry I didn’t steal them,” he chuckled.

You nodded and returned your gaze to the newly named, Tortilla. The kitten looked up at you with big eyes and you gave it a quick tap on the nose. “Boop!” you whispered.

poor henrik. the trailer made it look like he’d be a lot more yell-y than he was to donna. that little clappy thing he was doing as a fidget was cute tho.

but jesus that was cringy at the end, massive embarrassing tonal shift.

also I hate to say it but that scene where josh walked in on henrik did need to more obviously contain some blood - it was half a second and confused a lot of ppl.

I guess the scene from the trailer of josh finding hanssen in the basement is from a diff episode. aaand it looks like it really is going to be josh ‘connecting’ with him.

I think Marcus comes across as the bad guy is because of two main things - persuading the Anti-Bernie statements from the kids, and the cleaning out of the bank accounts. He had every right to be pissed off once he found out about Alex, but those two acts seemed distinctly vindictive. With that, I think he instantly went from being a relatively sympathetic character to an arsehole.

I agree. Ultimately, our sympathies are meant to lie with Bernie after "The Coward's Way" as she's the character we stick with on screen and we see how Marcus's actions affect her, and the rejection of her children as well. But with that, it means that we don't see Marcus's perspective.

The money stuff is tricky. Timeline-wise, the divorce papers are served before Marcus knows about Alex. As Serena puts it: he's obviously hurting and getting his retaliation in early. She has no claim to the house, all assets are joint and frozen. She's still wearing her wedding ring. And then by the episode, Marcus wants to sit and talk it all out. And they do talk. And talk. And agree to tell the kids together, it probably becomes fairly amicable. Then the truth explodes.

The kids get involved after the affair comes out. Barebones, your spouse of 25 years lies to you and cheats on you and you're humiliated whilst you're doing your job. You've spent years defending her career choices, sitting with your children as they worried and fretted about her coming home. No wonder he's emotional about it all. "Missing You Already" is the episode where Marcus turns the screws. And he has cause to, from a legal perspective.

The "letters" as people call them, would actually be statements. Bernie says: "He's got them to write statements supporting his case", so it's not like it was 'Dear Mum, you were crap as a parent' at least. I'm not letting Marcus off of the hook. It was vindictive and borne of anger. I think it was likely a dirty tactic pushed by his solicitor so he could get favourable terms out of the divorce. I think Marcus's logic towards all this is probably: "You reap what you sow, Bernie".

And Bernie's kids are grown up. Cam was at least 25 when the divorce happened. Charlotte not much younger, I don't think. So they were adults. They made that choice, even if, as Bernie states, Marcus got them to do it. We just see how much it hurts, we never know what they put, other than "chapter and verse on my failings as a wife and mother" - I'd be curious to know how cruel they actually were, and how much of that hurt was Bernie's self-inflicted thought pattern. When she says all those things the day she finds out about them, so it's very raw and there's Digby's funeral and a MAJAX so... yeah.

After all, she's not angry at Cam when he turns up on AAU. Doesn't demand that he retract it, or even mention it.

I think the last we hear of Bernie's divorce proceedings (I don't think we ever find out when it was finalized), was when the trauma unit opened and it was all still bedlam as Bernie's lawyer phones her up and says the money is leaving the accounts and Marcus won't go for mediation.

I feel like Marcus is probably emotional and easily swayed. From the sounds of it, he has a sister who never liked Bernie who could have got her claws in, and the money stuff sounds like lawyer-y manoeuvres as well. And he loved her. He loved Bernie and I don't think he ever stopped, and I don't think he likes that fact.

God, I don't half rant.
