Heartache on the Rocks
Pairing: Francis Wilkerson x Fem!Reader
Summary: Francis misses Malcolm and Reese's graduation and has an argument with his girlfriend because of it. In order to cope, she gets drunk.
Warnings: Arguing and drinking (reader gets drunk). Someone attempts to roofie the reader.
Notes: This one is a bit angsty! A lot of dialogue between reader and the Wilkerson boys :))
Word Count: 3.65k.
Author Signature: 🦋
Y/N walked out of Lois and Hal’s bedroom, where her and Francis had been staying for two days, after getting dressed from her shower. She had done some lawn work for the day- wanting to do something to help out around the house- and needed to shower to get all the dirt off of her legs. The mother and father duo were out of town and had asked her and Francis to watch the boys (mostly Jamie and Dewey), which she gladly agreed to- Francis doing so with a little more reluctance.
Malcolm leaned against the kitchen counter, rolling his eyes with his jaw set, “You could’ve at least texted.”
“I told you, I had work.” Francis replied defensively as he reached to grab a soda from the fridge, Y/N leaning against the wall and looking at Malcolm curiously before directing her attention to Francis, “What did you miss?”
“Oh, nothing,” Malcolm said sarcastically before continuing, replying to her question instead of his brother, “Just my graduation!”
Y/N’s jaw dropped in shock that she had never been informed of the event, “When was that?”
Then before he could reply she turned to Francis, “And why did you never tell me!?”
“It was a week ago when I had work! I wasn’t going to be able to go!” He replied and then turned to Malcolm, “I don’t have the luxury of dropping everything like you do. Some of us had bills to pay.”
“You could’ve at least done something to show that you care!” Malcolm argued, his frustration evident as Y/N’s heart stung.
“You’re being ridiculous.” The older brother said, rolling his eyes in annoyance.
“No, he isn’t. He’s hurt, Francis.” Y/N scoffed and then looked at the kid who was going to be her brother-in-law soon, “I’m sorry, Malcolm. Congrats on graduating. If I had known, I would’ve gone.”
“I appreciate that.” He nodded and then turned to glare at Francis.
Francis furrowed his brows, looking at his girlfriend as his voice rose, “I had work, how many times do I have to say it?”
“Yeah, but you could’ve taken off. Graduation is an important event, and I would’ve even gone without you if I had known about it.” Y/N told him, shrugging her shoulders slightly.
“You’re taking his side? Why would you have gone!? You’re not a part of this family!” Francis shouted, Y/N’s heart dropping to her stomach at his words while Malcolm’s eyes widened- Francis’ yelling drawing the attention of the other three boys in the living room.
She scoffed, “Wow. I guess the fact that we’ve been engaged for 2 years and that our wedding is in 4 months means nothing?”
“Y/N, don’t be overdramatic about this.” He snapped, his arms going out to his side in frustration.
Y/N pursed her lips, biting her tongue angrily as she walked towards the front door.
“Where are you going?” He yelled from behind her.
“I’m not a part of this family! Why am I here?” She shouted, grabbing their car keys from the table and then walking out of the door, slamming it behind her.
-
Y/N arrived at one of her favorite spots in town to drink, The Tipsy Lantern.
She walked into the door with a grin, sitting at the bar and ordering her favorite drink.
A few moments later, the bartender slid her drink in front of her with a nod before walking away as the girl shouted a quick thank you.
It didn’t take her long to down the drink, the burn of the alcohol being ignored as she bobbed her head to the music that was playing.
She raised her hand to grab the bartender’s attention, the male walking over to her a few moments later.
“Can I have a few more of these please?” She asked with a smile, gesturing to her empty glass.
His eyebrows raised, considering the girl had drunk the cup considerably fast, but he nodded, “Sure, coming right up.”
The girl thanked him, pursing her lips as she ignored the consequences that were bound to come with having this many drinks.
She was a bit of a lightweight, easily able to get drunk, but she decided to not think of that small fact as the bartender slid four more drinks to her.
Y/N raised one in the air as a bit of a salute to him before drinking the whole thing, letting out a satisfied sigh as she finished it.
Her phone vibrated in her pocket, causing her to pull it out and glance at who was trying to get her attention.
Once she read Francis’ name, she rolled her eyes, opening the text just so she could leave him on read.
His message read, Please come back.
And that was all.
She laughed under her breath before turning her phone off and taking a sip of her third drink, the effects of the alcohol beginning to weigh on her system.
The girl hummed along with the music as someone sat next to her, Y/N ignoring them due to the fact that she didn’t really want to speak to anyone right now.
She was quick to finish her third drink, picking up another one that was in front of her while the person next to her spoke up, “Rough night?”
Y/N looked over to the male, scoffing, “You don’t know the half of it.”
“Let me guess… got into a fight with the boyfriend?” He asked with raised brows.
The girl downed half of the drink in her hand before looking at him with a snarky smile, “Fiancé. Not that it’s any of your business.”
“Oooh, she’s feisty.” He chuckled, shaking his head before ordering a drink from the bartender while she finished hers and grabbed another.
The song over the speakers changed and Y/N grinned, “Ooohhh, I love this song!”
“Then go dance.” The guy suggested with a laugh, causing her to tilt her head with a grin, “You know what? I will.”
Then she downed the rest of her drink, leaving the one she had left at the counter as she went to the dance floor. Y/N joined a crowd of girls and danced to the song, all of them giggly and loud as they had fun.
“You need a drink!” One of the girls in the circle encouraged, causing Y/N to nod as she remembered the one she had left over, “I’ll be right back!”
She stumbled slightly as she made her way back to the counter, noticing the guy that was next to her drop something into her leftover drink.
“Hey!” She slurred, “What d-did you just do to my drink?”
“Nothing, doll. Why don’t you just sit down?” He replied, taking a sip from his own beverage.
Usually when they went to bars, Francis would watch her drinks since he didn’t drink alcohol anymore. But, of course, when he wasn’t here something happened.
The thought only caused the girl to grow sad, a longing feeling growing in her chest.
She pulled money out from her purse that was on her arm and handed it to the bartender in order to pay for all her drinks and then grabbed the one that was left over and threw it on the male that had drugged it, “Asshole.”
The guy yelled after her as she left, but she ignored him as she walked- or more so stumbled- out of the bar doors.
Y/N didn’t even go for the car keys, having enough of a conscience to know not to drive drunk, and instead called an uber to take her back to the Wilkerson household.
-
Once she arrived at the house, she paid the uber and hopped out, tripping over her shoes and falling onto the sidewalk with a yelp.
She was quick to stand back up, paying no attention to her scraped knees as she walked to the door.
The girl grabbed the handle, only to realize it was locked. She pouted before knocking on the door, looking down at her knees and trying to wipe some of the blood off before it got answered, but it only smudged the red substance instead of cleaning it up.
She groaned in frustration but quickly looked up as the door opened, Y/N making eye contact with Dewey.
“You’re back!” He said and then turned to the living room, where his brothers- except for Francis- sat.
Malcolm looked over and his eyes widened, “Y/N! Francis just left to go l-”
He got interrupted as she stumbled into the house, grabbing onto the couch for support.
Reese furrowed his brows, “Woah, she’s drunk.”
“Did you drive like this?” Malcolm asked in concern as he grabbed her elbow, gesturing for Reese to grab her other arm.
The two boys helped her over to a chair as she replied with a laugh, “No, Malcolm. I know you’re the genius and all, but I’m not a complete dumbass! Where’s my fiancé?”
“Reese will get him for you.” Malcolm stated before glancing to his brother, who just looked at him in confusion.
The middle child rolled his eyes before making his instructions clearer for his older brother, “Go call him and tell him she’s here, idiot!”
“Oh- right.” Reese muttered, getting up and grabbing the phone in order to dial his brother’s number.
The conversation was quickly over because right after Reese mentioned Y/N’s name and that she was at the house, Francis hung up to rush over.
Y/N stumbled slightly, making her way to the kitchen where Reese was, the other boys following, Dewey grabbing Jamie and settling the boy on his hip. She smiled as she looked around, squinting as her eyes landed on Malcolm, his face doubling for a moment before she blinked to try and get her vision corrected.
“Why are there two of you?” She slurred, furrowing her brows as she rubbed her right temple.
Malcolm exchanged a glance with Reese, concern etched into his expression, “Y/N… how much did you drink?”
The girl was quick to hold up three fingers, but then hesitated and added another one, “No, wait. Five? Yeah… I… I think it was five? Maybe four? I don’t know. The last one doesn’t count though because I threw it on some asshole instead of finishing it.”
Reese raised an eyebrow, sitting in one of the kitchen chairs and leaning back, “You’re trashed. Why didn’t you call someone to come with you?”
“Because, Reese, I’m a strong, independent woman! I don’t need anyone to babysit me, I’m fine!” She grinned, punctuating her words with a clumsy wave, narrowly missing the edge of the counter.
Dewey frowned, Jamie still sitting on his hip, “You don’t seem fine.”
The girl blinked, her lips trembling as her emotions overcame her, “I just feel so bad about missing Malcolm’s graduation.”
Then her eyes widened in realization, and she turned to Reese, “And it was your graduation too! I missed both of your graduations!”
“It’s not your fault.” Malcolm told her quickly, his voice softening as she sniffled, wiping at her eyes. “I mean it, Y/N. You didn’t even know about it, and if you had, I’m sure you would’ve come. This isn’t on you.”
“But it is!” She cried dramatically, throwing her arms up, which caused her to wobble. Reese quickly shot up, steadying her by the arm before she had the chance to fall over. The girl patted him on the head before speaking, “I should’ve known! I should’ve like, felt it in my soul, or something! You know? Like, ‘Oh, Malcolm and Reese are doing something important today!’. But noooooo, I was just at home while Francis was at work because my soul is stupid and didn’t tell me!”
Reese smirked, shaking his head with a small laugh, “Okay, you’re definitely drunk.”
“And sad!” She added, holding onto the older boy’s arm as she looked at Malcolm with teary eyes, “You guys are like… the little brothers I never had!”
She glanced at Dewey and Jamie, “You all are!”
Then she looked back at Malcolm and Reese, “And I let you guys down!”
The boy sighed, walking over and putting a hand on her shoulder while Reese continued to hold her up, “You didn’t let me down. Or Reese. Seriously. You’re here now, and that’s what matters.”
“Yeah. If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t even care about the graduation!” Reese shrugged with a small grin.
The girl’s lip wobbled as she smiled at them, “You guys are so sweet. You deserve better than me. You deserve someone who can like, time travel, and go back in time to make things right.”
“Time travel?” Reese chuckled, “Yeah, she’s gone.”
Y/N jabbed a finger at him, hitting his chest as her eyes narrowed in a playful glare, “Don’t laugh at me, Reese! I’m having a moment!”
She sniffled as she stumbled towards a kitchen chair, Reese guiding her carefully to make sure she didn’t fall.
Dewey stepped closer, still holding Jamie, who reached out to the girl with grabby hands, “Do you want to hold him? He likes you.”
“No! I can’t hold the baby!” She said, shaking her head, “I’m a mess! What if I drop him? He deserves better, too! So do you, Dewbear!”
“Dewbear?” Dewey asked with raised brows and an amused smile as Malcolm spoke, “Okay, now you’re being ridiculous, Y/N.”
Reese grabbed a glass from the cabinet, filling it with water and sliding it in front of the older girl, “Drink this. You’re gonna feel even worse later if you don’t.”
She picked up the glass, staring at it in awe before looking up at the boys, “You know, water is great. It’s like the healer for all things in life!”
Malcolm rolled his eyes, though there was an amused glint in them, “Just drink it, Y/N.”
The girl did as told, chugging it quickly and then slamming the glass on the counter with a grin, “See? I’m responsible!”
Just after she spoke, the sound of the front door opening caught everyone’s attention. Y/N froze, eyes wide as she heard Francis’ voice call out, “Where is she?”
She immediately began to panic, “What do I do? I can’t talk to him like this! I’ll just cry, and then maybe yell, but I’ll cry!”
Malcolm helped her up and shoved her in the direction of the bathroom, “Go brush your teeth!”
“Yeah and spray some perfume or something to help hide the smell!” Reese added, the girl nodding in response and stumbling her way towards the room. “Dewey, go with her!” She heard Reese order the young boy, footsteps pattering down the hall and into the bathroom afterwards.
Bile rose in her throat, causing her eyes to widen as she leaned over the toilet, vomit flowing from her mouth as Dewey entered with Jamie, the boy grimacing in disgust.
He still pulled her hair back, though, so that it didn’t get caught in her vomit.
Once she was done, she quickly grabbed a piece of toilet paper, wiping her mouth and throwing it in the toilet before flushing and looking at Dewey and Jamie, “Sorry.”
“It’s okay.” The boy shrugged, “You should probably start brushing your teeth now, though.”
“Right.” She muttered, standing up and rinsing her mouth out with water before getting to brushing her teeth.
As she brushed, she grabbed her perfume, spraying some on her body frantically.
Suddenly the door swung open and she turned towards it with wide eyes, making eye contact with Francis. The male quickly spoke, “Where were you?”
“Nowhere.” She replied quickly, spitting the toothpaste into the sink and putting her toothbrush away as Dewey slid out of the room, “I just needed some time to myself, okay?”
He stepped into the room, his arms crossed as he analyzed her. His sharp gaze softened once he noticed her puffy eyes and flushed face. “You smell like perfume.” He stated before glancing at where she just put the toothbrush, “And you were brushing your teeth when I walked in. Baby, were you drinking?”
She sighed, leaning against the sink as she felt a headache coming on, the girl squinting to try and ease it as she slurred a reply, “Maybe?”
“Y/N, you know you’re a lightweight. What if something bad happened? Did you dri-”
The girl flung a hand up, cutting him off as she stumbled slightly, Francis reaching a hand out to steady her before she smacked it away, “No, I didn’t drive! Car is still… at the place. I called an uber. I’m not stupid, Francis.”
He furrowed his brows, quickly replying, “I didn’t say you were stupid.”
She swayed slightly, movements exaggerated as she jabbed a finger into his chest, “Sure sounded like you did!”
The girl huffed and then narrowed her eyes at him, “You’re always so bossy! Mr. Bossy Boss guy, gotta control the world!”
Francis sighed, stepping closer and grabbing her hand that was continuing to poke his chest, “I was worried, okay? When you didn’t come back, I thought-”
“What?” She interrupted with raised brows and a scoff, “That I ran away to join the circus or something?”
The girl giggled at her own joke before her face dropped, her voice wavering slightly as the next words left her mouth, “Don’t worry, Francis. I wouldn’t want to burden you by sticking around where I don’t belong.
His eyes snapped to hers, his voice firm as he spoke, “What the hell are you talking about?”
Y/N shook her head, unsteady and gripping the counter tightly to keep herself upright, “You said it.”
She sighed before mumbling, her words slurred together, “You said I’m not a part of this family.”
Francis groaned, running a hand through his hair, “I didn’t mean it like that. I was mad, okay? I said something stupid, you know I don’t think that.”
“Do I?” She asked, eyes welling up with tears again, “It felt like you meant it, Francis… and that hurt because I-” She hiccupped, “-I love your family. Like love-love them, you know? And I try so hard, but then you-” She cut herself off with yet another hiccup, her eyes glistening with tears again, “You act like I’m nothing.”
“No, you’re not nothing.” He said desperately, voice quiet as he stepped forwards and grabbed her hands, “You’re everything to me, okay? I screwed up, Y/N. I know I did. But I didn’t mean what I said. I swear, baby.”
She sniffled, blinking her eyes up at him wearily, “I don’t know if I believe you.”
Her words were a bit dragged, her emotions amplified by the alcohol in her system as she moved her gaze to the ground.
“Y/N,” Francis said, brushing a tear off her cheek, “Look at me.”
She tilted her head in a dramatic motion, blinking slowly as she tried to focus her vision on his, “What?”
“You do mean everything to me. And not just to me, but to the boys as well. They love you like a sister. Malcolm told me that.” He said with a small smile.
Her lips quirked up a little bit, “Malcolm’s the smart one.”
Then she furrowed her brows, “But you’re kinda dumb for making me upset.”
He chuckled, nodding his head, “Yeah, I’m kinda dumb. I’ll fix it, though, okay? I promise.”
She nodded, her head falling forward to rest against his chest, “You better! And not just with me, fix it for Malcolm and Reese for missing their graduations! Or I’ll- I’ll do something. I don’t know what yet, but something.”
He wrapped his arms around her, steadying her as she wobbled again, “Okay, deal. For now, though, let’s get you some aspirin and on the couch. You need to rest.”
Y/N nodded, once more, into his chest, her hair brushing against his shirt and getting more messed up then it already was, “Okay. But you have to come too… and the boys!”
Francis laughed softly, kissing the top of her head, “Whatever you want, baby. Let’s go get you settled.”
“Francis?” She mumbled as he guided her towards the living room, where it looked like the boys were sitting.
“Yeah?”
“You’re kinda okay, I guess.” She slurred with a giggle, leaning heavily into his side.
He smirked, pressing another kiss to her temple, “Thanks, sweetheart. You’re not too bad yourself.”
The girl laughed, her voice trailing off as they joined the rest of the family, Francis trying to make sure she got comfortable on the couch, next to Reese, before he went to go get the aspirin.
Her head lolled to the side, landing on Reese’s shoulder. The boy let it rest there until Francis came back and sat on her other side, pulling her against him and handing her the aspirin.
She took it before looking around and noticing that Dewey was next to Reese on the couch, Jamie on his lap, and Malcolm was in the armchair.
“Malcolm, join us on the couch!” She pouted, scotting over slightly and making room between her and Reese.
He furrowed his brows, looking at the small space that was left on the crouch and thinking about how crowded it would be. He looked over to Francis, who nodded towards the empty space.
Malcolm sighed before nodding and joining them on the couch, the six of them squished together.
Francis grabbed a blanket that was next to him and threw it on his fiancé as she spoke, “Okay, what do we want to watch?”
The boys immediately began shouting ideas, arguing with each other over what the better option was.
Y/N just grinned as she listened to their bickering, not able to imagine herself in a better place than with her family.

These guys would make me cry in .5 seconds
House crossover goes out to the friend who listened to me ramble about these fuckers (and special mention to @username0derogatory0 , saw your post while going through the tag. i doubt that this is what you where imagining but i tried haha)
Doodles of Paul Higgins as Michael Dugdale and Jamie MacDonald: it is hilarious to me that this guy hot two roles as a government official character, but with basically opposite personalities. Dugdale is pushed around by tides he doesn‘t understand, Jamie is a tsunami personified.I suck at drawing him but I‘ll get there.
