im gonna shower in a sec but if you want to rant about kitties be my guest, coyote and mallow (or. white molly with colored tail)

best ask ever

so, when i picked mallowtail to die, i honestly had no idea she had kits. four, actually. three new warriors, mint, dove and milkweed, and a specializer, coyote. at first i was like "oh ill give them to another molly!" and then i realized:

coyote was front row in front of a pair of softpaws when mallowtail and tundranose fought. he was right there.

so.

coyote was incredibly close with his mother. he was apprenticed under her to become a hunter, he always asked her to help him train in his spare time, they loved each other. he idolized her. he didnt get any of her hot-headedness, so he and his father were nearly identical. mallowtail was incredibly proud of him, and his siblings.

when mallowtail began to argue with tundranose, he was right there. on the opposite end of his siblings, he was closer to her. he watched her commit her crime.

he tried to stop her. he really did. he cried for her, cried mom, mallowtail, mama. he did everything he could other than intervene with the fight, which is nearly a law in and of itself, though it wont be until a little later in the story.

when mallowtail is executed, coyote is the only one of his siblings there. mint, milkweed and dove were too wracked with anticipatory grief that they couldnt bring themselves to go.

but coyote went. and oh, he watched.

and all he came away with was, "god, i couldve saved her. this is my fault."

it wasn't obviously. he was the equivalent of a college student, only eighteen or nineteen in human years. he wouldnt have been at fault for a decision his mother made all on her own as an adult.

but he still felt like it was his fault.

now, a fact about coyote! he loves kids. he wanted kits so bad it hurt sometimes. he always dreamed of finding the perfect molly, settling down and having a litter or two together.

but because he was so sure it was his fault his mom died? he could never bring himself to have kits. what if it happens to them? what if history repeats itself, and they feel like his death is their fault? hes so terrified of these non existent cats being wracked with guilt like he is that he refuses to have kits. he wants them! he wants them so, so bad. but he will never let himself say that out loud.

he'll just be an uncle to his littermates kits.

some ii warrior cats designs! in order they're yin-yang, test tube, fan, paintbrush, lightbulb and marshmallow! this is an idea that's been sitting in my head for a few months so i'm excited to finally share it. my idea is that fan, or fern in this au, starts off as a kittypet who excitedly watches over the clans and he is found out by the leader (probably mephone4? who knows yet) who lets him join as an apprentice (he's about 7 moons/7 months at this point). blazepaw (they're all around the same age) is super put off by the idea with a kittypet joining the clan but keeps it civil as the newly named sparkpaw makes quick friends with their friends lightpaw and thistlepaw. also mallowtail will end up running away with apple (haven't decided on a warrior name for her yet, maybe applestem?) to become a kittypet, where she will take on the name marshmallow if yall are interested in this please let me know because i'd be happy to share more!

Starting Allegiances

these are what the allegiances look like for the day rusty meets graypaw, bluestar, and lionheart for the first time!

i stayed up until 5am finishing this last night, because not only did i do research looking for every single cat that was or could have been alive at the time, but i also wanted to put them in age order (the only exception for this is boulder, who he and russetfur joined shadowclan while wolfstep and foxheart were apprentices, and while russetfur is younger than wolfstep, boulder is actually more about ashheart, newtspeck, and frogtail's age)

i'm not doing "books" exactly, they'll be more in like "parts" or "acts," so every time a major point in the story ends will be when i update the allegiances! the next allegiance update will be after brokenstar and his followers are ran out of shadowclan and windclan returns

the clawing of tundranose.

the ambrosial - moribund

stag lashes her tail. her paws ache from hunting most of the day, but she looks ahead anyway. she doesnt know what the maple colony cats will do. little curl whimpers, moving away from an angry looking cream and grey tom. the tom falters slightly, before doubling down. mink shoves herself between them, staring the tom down without shame.

fly nudges her gently, murmuring, "they might just be here to take the kits home. we cant be aggressive."

"we aren't," she breathes back. "we're being standoffish. its different."

she can hear the eyeroll more so than see it.

stag glances up at the sky, finding no moon. she backs up, curling her tail around lark. "go find the gazers," she tells her friend. lark nods, darting past the group of pine and maple warriors and out of the camp.

stag places herself back next to her brother, and waits silently. pollen yawns, rubbing against her shoulder gently. she smiles, pressing back against her. if nothing else, this has certainly brought all of them together.

lark returns a bit later with tundranose on her tail. mistyeyes dashes after them, eyes blazing.

"what, in the name of the collective, is going on here?"

tundranose presses against his friend, tail puffed and back arched. he's the only of the gazers to have a full sentry's training under his paws, and he certainly doesn't mind using it. stag watches the other gazers- and willowbubble- settle at the edge of the camp circle, watching closely. sunnygaze looks displeased already. stag swallows her wince.

she doesnt know sunnygaze as well as his colony does, but hes not shy when it comes to meeting apprentices at their first gathering. he had been bright and friendly when they'd spoken. it takes a lot to make him angry. this seems to have done it.

coal swallows audibly, slinking behind her and pollen rather than beside them. she wonders if he sees sunnygazes expression too.

"we're here to take our kits home," the maple deputy growls. her name is spiderfoot, stag thinks. "they've been breaking the rules for months. we thought we'd lost them entirely."

tundranose blinks. "and yet you wanted to place them under camp-arrest. they're using their collective given rights to protest an unjust rule. i, and all of the other gazers, believe this camp is a wonderful use of young minds and paws. warriors visit often and soft-paws are taken care of. elder cats train younger cats. why be angry when you can be impressed?"

spiderfoot scoffs. a white molly steps up beside her with a glare. stag doesnt recognize her, but coyote tenses. "we cant be impressed by rule breaking."

tundranose shakes his head. the while molly next to spiderfoot steps forward, placing herself halfway between her deputy and tundranose, claws unsheathed. tundranose looks down at her, tail flicking.

"lark," he calls quietly, "come here please."

lark presses against him as he murmurs to her, then licks her ear and sends her off. stag thinks briefly that her friend could have been a messenger as she dashes back out of the camp.

tundranose turns his attention back to the molly. "mallowtail," he addresses her. how he knows her name, stag doesn't want to know. "do you need to do this?"

"i need to protect my deputy," mallowtail breathes. "just a safety measure."

tundranose steps towards her shortly, barely moving a full paws length. mallowtail digs her claws through the dirt, tail puffed. "what makes you think i would attack unprovoked? i'm not a hot-headed sentry anymore. im a gazer. i won't attack unless you attack me first."

mallowtail doesnt respond, but halfheartedly swipes in front of her paws. someone gasps from the edge of the clearing.

tundranose, clearly, dislikes this. he darts forward, knocking the white coated molly off her feet and stepping over her. mallowtail yelps, paws flailing for grip and finding tundranoses chest, digging in. tundranose winces, then presses down on her belly with one of his back paws. mallowtail hisses and begins to attempt to wriggle out.

apparently in her attempts, her claws dig fully into his skin and cut.

tundranose growls, raking his claws across her belly and snapping his jaws in his face. she yelps, still trying to get away.

..it doesnt end well for her. tundranose steps away what feels like ages later, staring her down as he does. sunnygaze walks over silently, nosing over tundranose throughly. he presses his paw to his friends pelt, and pulls it away covered in a bright sheen of blood.

tundranose's blood.

..mallowtail harmed a gazer.

oh, heavens. coyote lets out a harsh breath, staring at his campmate wildly.

sunnygaze raises his head. the white in his muzzle shines in the moonlight.

"mallowtail, hunter of maple colony has done harm upon tundranose, gazer of pine colony. this is an offense punishable by death. the collective will be called upon by mid night tomorrow to decide her fate." his gaze turns to spiderfoot. "until then, she will be kept in her camp under direct supervision of her deputy or leader, and allowed only within three tail lengths of another gazer."

mallowtail whimpers, but says nothing against the decree. stag stares horrified.

they caused this. they killed mallowtail.

"canon" is in quotations because a lot of this is guesswork about who logically would be around at that point in time, but aren't listed in the allegiances or mentioned in the book

general stuff that's still the same as last time:

this is where things start to get pretty messy due to the sheer number of prequel cats i need to make decisions about, pretty much entirely in rc and sc. i'll provide insight into why the ones i have listed are still around as these prequel cats do just tend to randomly fall off the timeline with no explanation or canonical deaths

cinderkit and brackenkit are listed as kits instead of apprentices bc they are not apprenticed until like 100 pages in

swiftpaw is still listed as an apprentice bc he is apprenticed in like the first chapter

ashkit, fernkit, and tulipkit are listed. elderkit is already dead and tulipkit dies this book

shadowclan:

they lose a LOT of cats from the previous allegiances due to their last mentioned appearances being at the end of yellowfang's secret and not a lot of them reappearing in exile from shadowclan or tigerclaw's fury

whitepaw/whitethroat - not mentioned until rising storm, but needs to be a warrior by then. i made him a kit in the itw allegiances and thus now he's an apprentice

applepaw/applefur and ratpaw/ratscar - not mentioned until tigerclaw's fury but need to be warriors by then. i made them kits in the itw allegiances and thus they are now apprentices

brightflower, crowtail, archeye, featherstorm, hollyflower - alive and rejoined shadowclan's camps at the end of exile from shadowclan

volewhisper - alive and rejoined shadowclan's camp at the end of exile from shadowclan, but specifically needs to die before blackfoot returns due to continuity issues with blackfoot's reckoning

ashheart - not mentioned or listed in tpb, but alive bc she needs to make semi-canon kits with cinderfur in rising storm

scorchwind - not mentioned or listed in tpb, but alive bc he needs to make rowanstar and cedarheart with darkflower

morningflower - the way that she and gorsekit are described make it sound like she gave birth like the day before fireheart and graystripe showed up, so she is tagged with (expecting kits)

tawnykit/tawnyfur - an apprentice in rising storm and a warrior in a dangerous path, so she is likely a kit around this time

eaglekit (ashfoot's kit) - not listed bc i think they have died

elders - there are about 5 unnamed elders described while windclan is crossing the road. the only specific elders that have strong cases to be around are crowfur (he is in a forest of secrets) and cloudrunner (he is gorsepaw's father)

i have them listed under rogues and loners, but sometime during this book it's likely that stagleap and sorrelshine rejoin windclan after the clan returns to their territory
