I actually learned most of it (the deeper nuances and facts, the bottom of the iceberg) while I was writing. That is honestly the fastest way for me to learn history, like an intensive course.

Yes, having to constantly research and cross-reference every tiny detail (I’m obsessed w historical accuracy/detail) while writing each chapter is a must (for me).

But you can get away with writing with “surface-level” knowledge of the Middle Ages too. You don’t have to go into excruciating detail about how everything works. Depends on the approach of each writer’s story and specific plot.

•Just knowing the basics so that there are no anachronisms. Like for example (literally just the most common mistake I see) adding plate armor in this era, instead of accurate gear (gambesons + chainmail + surcoats, etc.) and accurate helms—yes I say helm and not helmet lol. (Baldwin should have and use a helm btw!)

Helms and shields are super fun, because they could be very colorful. Shields in this era would be carrying more and more decorations and symbols, and helms could be painted to match them.

••Paying attention to armor and weaponry in research is one of the most important.

KoH makes some general mistakes (exs: Swords. Templar crosses; should be worn over the upper left chest.) (but also some are intentional creative choices) so I wouldn’t use the movie as reference. True, many times I draw Baldwin with his movie looks, but that is just to make my art more quickly recognizable for what it is about. I have my own historically accurate/inspired concepts, many of which I have not shared (either unfinished or don’t have the time) 😭🫠

•And other important aspects: the protocols of court, the officers of the kingdom, and how the military orders work. The Kingdom of Jerusalem had its own particularities and peculiarities/quirks, so referencing from Europe wouldn’t work in some cases.

Idk if you’re asking with the intention to write your own, maybe I’m just yapping now. But whether it’s for that or if it’s just for learning for fun, you can find all this rather easily online—and if you needed anything in specific, don’t doubt asking me! I’ll try my best! :D

Okay so new accidental proposal idea for Bagginshield.

There's a big party in Erebor for reasons. Thorin is still not fully healed and when Bilbo asks if he's ready to go lay back down since he's been up way more for the day, Thorin says he must be the first to dance so everyone else can start too and dance at least a little more than one or two songs and glances tiredly at a group of dwarrow.

So Bilbo stands up, and being a well raised gentlehobbit, dramatically sweeps into a bow and offers his non dominate hand palm up and keeps his position as he asks if Thorin will dance with him. There is a huge pause.

NOW either Thorin can choke out a yes and take Bilbo's proffered hand and the hall erupts in cheers OR for comedy Balin can basically remind everyone that Bilbo is a hobbit and does not know their ways and Bilbo gets to be rather embarrassed that he technically proposed to Thorin in the most serious of ways for dwarrow, one that would only be done for a love match, and so publicly makes it way more intense. While Bilbo was just holding to proper Shire manners by not staring at the asked so they can feel less pressure to say yes if they don't want to.

I think if I had the health for writing that I would go with the first way as accidental proposals are so fun in my opinion but just wondering which way others would take it. So which would you pick if you were writing a story or would you have another way?

Oh, absolutely Thorin would accept! I'd probably write it that Balin or someone would be About To Explain, but Thorin, who 100% thinks Bilbo - clever, sneaky little hobbit - did the research and Knows What He's Doing, says yes before anyone else can jump in.

And then everyone else wonders if Bilbo did in fact, know what he was doing.

And Bilbo gets Very Confused when people keep congratulating him, and very exasperated with Thorin who keeps asking him about Proper Party Planning Procedure, and he keeps demuring because he knows Hobbity Manners, not what's appropriate for dwarves! Which Thorin thinks is yet more Respect For His Culture, and pushes for the hobbity answer anyway, which devolves into hours long discussions of Hobbity Propriety, and maybe that's when Thorin starts to get an inkling...

So he does the sensible, responsible, grown-up thing - hah! - and talks to someone not Bilbo about his growing concerns that he's planning a wedding Bilbo doesn't realise he proposed. And that someone (Balin? Dis?) face-palms because they're a bit too deep in planning a mountain-wide celebration to just drop it now if Bilbo didn't mean it.

And then someone (I'd go with Dain because Dain's my favourite, but Ori or Kili would be funny too) just blurts out something about 'the wedding' and Bilbo gets all 'Oh! A Wedding? Is that a big deal to dwarves?'

'Is it not to hobbits?!'

'Well, the actual... getting married part is important, of course, but we don't really celebrate it so much. It's all very personal and private, you see? It's common knowledge in the Shire that if someone up and vanishes for a little while, they're probably off getting married.' A long pause as Bilbo stares off into the distance looking more and more perturbed. 'Oh good gracious me! Everyone back home is going to think that I-'

'Well, aren't you?'

'Aren't I what?'

'...getting married?'

'WHAT?!'

And then probably cut to an epilogue-scene where Thorin and Bilbo are getting married in some very long-winded, official ceremony deeply steeped in Ritual and Tradition, and in between speeches and vows and probably Balin droing on and on and on (possibly reciting lineages? That seems like a thing that might be very important at a dwarven wedding), Bilbo and Thorin are having a hissed argument on the topic of 'I can't believe you thought I'd propose like that!' 'I can't believe you thought I was asking all those questions theoretically!' 'Oh, pardon me for thinking you might be interested in learning about my culture' 'That is not what I meant and you know it' 'Oh do I? You don't seem to know what I mean by things, so why would you expect me to know what you mean!' etcetera and so on.

I'd probably try to figure out a way to have it devolve into aggressively complimenting (complisulting?) each other somehow, so that Balin could ask for their personal vows/declarations of affection and intent, and they'd just... carry right on without missing a beat.

(Some dwarven songcrafter would turn it into a rom-com duet. In Khuzdul, so Bilbo has no idea it exists for years and years and then gets to reprise the 'Tell Me What Things Mean, You Great Lump!' argument when he finally does realise what it's about.)

Like I said this arc really gets going really quickly

Our first look at the seraphim was during the attack of the Marines on Amazon Lily, but now we get to see another one of them, one that looks like Jinbei, as the cogs in the corner of our minds are already turning. Oh!! So this is why they got rid of the warlord system! We also get to meet more of Vegapunk’s satellites, and I love that as they’re all fun characters. I’m also happy with the fact that Shaka is immediately on the side of the Straw Hats. Meanwhile the other group find a junkyard while trying to run away from the pacifista policeman, and they come across a certain weird robot that I’m sure isn’t going to be important later in the arc

Egghead is the arc where we learn the truth about what happened later in Ohara, which means that Saul fortunately survived along with the books. This is a wonderful moment for Robin and I also really like the flashback between Vegapunk and Dragon, which shows us that Ohara was one of the reasons that Dragon actually decided to start the Revolutionary Army, which will play a role in later flashback. Vegapunk himself is a much more passive man and while, sure he grieves what happened to Clover, for now, he’s much more focused on research, which is a flaw of his character that will pop up again and again

We finally get to meet Vegapunk in the flesh and he’s a really funny guy. I do have to admit I laugh whenever he says his silly things. It’s really interesting how he’s introduced, because Bonney hates him for what he did to her father, but Vegapunk doesn’t seem like a malicious man. There is a point that he makes about how everybody should be able to share knowledge, with Jinbei pinpointing that maybe that’s not that good of an idea, because if everybody shares knowledge some people might use it for bad things or to push their agendas. Vegapunk doesn’t even consider this, instead, he is much more focused on the good side of science and how he needs to continue his research which will be a common theme with him again and again

It’s interesting that once CP0 show up on the Island, Stussy seems to know a lot about the place. Lucci is indifferent, Kaku is excited, but there’s this lingering feeling that Stussy knows much more than she should, which is such good foreshadowing for a later reveal

Meeting One's Match - A Yan!Ganon x Sheikah Fem!OC fic idea.

Not a request, just wanna hear your thoughts & critique.

I'm not really an OC blog but I do love making and seeing others OCs. I think you have all of your ducks in a line with her.

I think this part: "She's also very hands-on & has a philosophy of 'why ask someone to do something that you can do yourself, but the right way?'" would strike the most friction between her and Ganondorf. I could be misinterpreting this but it sounds like Nemma would be the type to go off and do her own thing. Like while everyone is around planning the best way to go forward she would just go ahead and do it her own way. While this may be be the most efficient way to do things, I feel like there will be this need for control with Ganon as well as a "what if something happened to her?" in the back of his mind. I feel like he'd see her as not only his wife but also his strongest warrior so losing her would be not only emotionally crappy but also tactically crappy as well. This coupled with her backstory sounds like Nemma doesn't like to rely on people and might be prone to trying to take on everything and everyone on her own. Maybe part of her character arc could be learning how to work in a group?

It also sounds like Nemma might be slightly inspired by Miyamoto Musashi (thank you Puppet History). If not I think it'd be really helpful for you to look into him.

As for her design, I think you should maybe add a hat if she travels often. She can still have a top knot with her daggers if her hat has a hole at the top for it. I'm a sucker for historical fashion so I think you should do research on what time period(s) Sheikah dress is inspired by in TOTK and go from there. I would also recommend thinking about what kind of lifestyle she lives when designing her. However, don't think too hard because honestly making OCs is about having fun!

I don't really know too much about weaponry and it seems like you put a lot of thought into Nemma's weapon. This is not a critique on your weapon choice personally, but I kind of roll my eyes a bit when I see a katana. Again! YOU PROVIDE EXCELLENT REASONING FOR HER CHOICE OF WEAPON AND THIS ISN"T A DISS ON YOU! Maybe you could look into other types of Japanese weaponry for Nemma just a way to explore some options? Or don't if you really want her to have a sword! Everybody has their own attachments to weapons and fighting styles (polearms and crossbows my beloveds). There are also other Japanese style swords you could look into if you want! I'd keep in mind her lifestyle and which would be more practical for her to have. If she is traveling alone it might be more practical for her to have a one handed weapon and a shield since a two handed weapon would leave her open to attacks. I know more about European medieval junk than Japanese military history so idk? I also tend to look to a lot of history when creating OCs since humans have had very common ideas and have been in similar situations since forever. I also only bring up Japanese history because that's what I'm assuming the Sheikah people are inspired by seeing that Nintendo is a Japanese company. I could be wrong since pretty much all of my art history knowledge and fashion history knowledge is based on Europe.

The story sounds interesting and I'd love to read it! Reading through it and before getting to the end I was thinking "oh this is not going to be a healthy relationship." I think that Ganon would want Nemma primarily for her strength and abilities over her as a person. I think Ganon's character arc within the story could be him getting out of his war mentality, or Demon King mentality like you said, and seeing Nemma as a person and not as a weapon. While I see Nemma's character arc being her finally being able to let loose so to say. Being able to rely on another person and not have to carry the weight of the world all on your own.

You mentioned a size kink so I only bring this up because I assume there's going to be some NSFW details in the story. I see sparring being a sort of foreplay for these two. Maybe a wrestling kink? I also get some vibes of Ganon being willing to let Nemma dom him. I also just love seeing a big scary man get dommed by his wife.

Also don't worry about your art style not matching the universe you're trying to fit your OC into. You're not story boarding for a company so just have fun! Unless you want to experiment with different styles then go ham!

If you're wanting to use the more or less than 12 seasons point, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend looking at Aboriginal Australian cultures! There's like thousands of groups with their own slightly different languages, mythology, traditions and, of course, seasons!

***: I'm a teenaged white Australian through and through and I am in no way an expert- just providing some guidance on where to look for research based on what I've been taught and experienced of my country's native cultures from an outside perspective. Take the details of what I say with a good shaking of salt- not only am I trying to avoid doxxing myself, I'm also trying not to risk being inaccurate or accidentally racist while shading the knowledge I have. Anyway back to it :)

One of the groups that live around where I do have six seasons, up in Darwin I believe there's a similar number, a few less or more I don't quite remember (I haven't been back in a while). There's a lot of climates, biomes, and wildlife types in Australia to create different seasons depending on where you are, so even if your world has snow, take a look! We have places where it snows (Canberra, some of Tasmania, probably in South Australia too) so we've got just about everything- rainforests, too. (Everything except volcanoes, anyway.) So look to them for guidance on how their seasons are structured!! I won't go into detail on the way it's structured where I live, because that would megadoxx me instantly, but it's pretty interesting- remember, seasons are primarily determined by the plants and animals that adapt to changes in the weather. If new plants of a certain species begin to sprout at a certain time of year, that's an easy marker for a new season- especially if it's common and happens around the same time as other plants begin to sprout or flower, or the weather changes! Seasons are flexible in a lot of Aboriginal cultures, in my experience***, and pretty much never have a specific start date- specific, structured calendars seems to very much have been a thing originating from the northern hemisphere or something. Or maybe it's just Australia. Either way, there wasn't any specific day or "month" a season started- usually, things began to happen, and you'd go oh. [season] is beginning, so we should adapt our hunting/foraging/general living strategies! It's a very go-with-the-flow thing, the natural calendar, and having more than four seasons often reflects that. So look to it!! I'd like to get more people interested in Aboriginal Australian cultures anyway, it's so much fun to learn about and such a good wellspring of knowledge to draw off for writing because they're all so unique. 💛

She's perfectly average looking, except for the fact one eye is bright amber, and the other a brilliant blue. There are a great variety of Pokemon that are all unfamiliar to the viewer, together with other children and all of them are running around in a playground, while her back is pressed firmly against a tree trunk. She's silent as she sits there, focused only on what she writes, and the actions of the childrens Pokemon. Nobody ever comes up to her while she's doing this. She doesn't mind. She doesn't want to play anyways. She would rather be taking notes. But today is different than most days, it would seem, as her writing is disturbed by a shadow peering over her pages coupled with a high-pitched voice. "Hello! What're you doing all alone? What're you writing about? Don't you want to play...?" She shakes her head. "No. I'm good. This is more fun to me. I like watching Pokemon more than running around. Please go." "Well, that's okay. I like to watch Pokemon too! But you seem lonely over here all by yourself. Do you want to watch them together instead?" She stares, thinking for a minute, before she replies. "... You're exhausted. The pounding headache radiates to your sore feet as you shuffle into the Autobot base. You probably look like shit, and there's a good reason. You've come into contact with too many bodily fluids of different kinds today, and you sorely need a decontamination shower. Not to mention the number of times you've had to re-insert IV lines in a very, very confused elderly woman. You had given up the fight and called her doctor to tell him that you were not willing to get sucker punched in the guts again. Days like today make you question your career choice.

But as sucky as it is, it's also rewarding. Your knowledge and expertise have often helped the kids when they're injured, sick or straight-up infected by the blood of an ancient god of chaos inhabiting the very planet your sore legs are walking upon.

Yeah, other healthcare professionals could learn a thing or two from you.

Speaking of other 'healthcare professionals', Ratchet has been getting on your nerves more than usual lately. Ever since Raf almost died at the hands of dark energon, he insists that he helps with the health and wellbeing of the kids, despite knowing next to nothing about the anatomy and homeostasis of humans other than the fact that "If they get underfoot, they will go… squish." in his words. So, in his minimal spare time, he researched different diseases and injuries common among humans and the treatments for each. And while you appreciated his dedication to better his understanding of humans, he was becoming a hypochondriac in the process.

Like right now. You had walked in on Ratchet, giving Jack a complete head-to-toe assessment. The poor kid was lying face down on one of the human-sized gurneys while Ratchet poked and prodded at his back, and oh my god, is that a scalpel.

"Ratchet!" You call out, running over to the gurney as fast as your tired legs can manage, "What the hell are you doing?"

"Nurse Y/n, you're just in time!" Ratchet exclaims, "I have detected a malignant mass of cells on the left periscapular region of Jack's skin and require your assistance in its removal."

You could not have deadpanned at him any harder, "You got all that just by looking at it? Let me see."

Ratchet steps back as your dermatitis-ridden hands touch the 'malignant mass of cells' to examine it, and you roll your eyes to find that it's not what Ratchet thinks it was.

"Ratchet, that's just a mole." You say, then you give Jack a few pats on the back, "It's alright, nothing to worry about. You're free to go."

Jack drags himself off the gurney and hastily puts his shirt back on, mouthing a silent 'thank you' as he speed walks as fast as he can away from a very stunned Ratchet, who still wields his scalpel. You look back up at him with a very unimpressed look, folding your arms.

"Are you serious?" You say, "You were just gonna slice off a mole because you thought it was malignant?"

Ratchet huffs, putting down the scalpel before throwing his servos on his hips, rolling his optics, "If you had any competence at all, you would've already examined it months ago and determined that this 'mole' is, in fact, deadly!"

"He's had that thing for years since he was born!" You growl. Your patience is wearing thin like your skin that's been abused from all the alcohol gel you used today, "June told me he's already had it looked at. You need proper reason and consent from the patient before taking a blade to the skin. Jack was clearly unwilling. Did they not teach you this stuff in 'Robot Medical Ethics 101' or whatever the hell you call it?"

"Jack is a child," Ratchet scoffs yet again, and it's taking all of your strength not to climb up his chassis and strangle his neck cabling into oblivion, "I am a physician. I had merely overridden his consent and took matters into my own servos."

You facepalm so hard that you are sure your face has condensed into a black hole from the force. Frustrated, you then rub your forehead, "Look, I know you're trying to help the kids. I can see that. But I really need to shower before my legs collapse. How about I do that and then come back to teach you the proper method of patient evaluation and consent procedures?"

Ratchet quirks an optic ridge before a small smile ever so slightly creeps onto his dermas, "As much as I dislike the thought of a human teaching me about medical procedures, I would very much appreciate the gesture."

Heard everyone is sick for the holidays, including yours truly so here's some sick comfort! Its been a while since I played, and I'm npt caught up in the archon quests so Im sorry if theres any inaccurate headcanons in here, otherwise I hope yall enjoy ^^

Aether

This sweet man would be good at taking care of you, just possibly not the best

He and Lumine got sick when they were little and had to help each other out, so he obviously knows what to do, but its been a while

For this headcanon, lets say you have the common cold, but Aether is so caught up in trying to figure out symptoms and medicines and he always wonders when the next time he or his friends will be attacked, so our boy is overthinking a whole LOT

He probably thinks you have the flu, he heard it was spreading in Mondstadt and you then conviently passed out when yall went fishing w Paimon

first thing he does is pick you up and lay you near a statue of the 7, before grabbing a cool rag

Everything probably would roll smoothly if it werent for paimon distracting him

He takes a deep breath and continues w paimon pestering him lmao

just imagine waking up on the comfy grass and hearing a hushed argument until Paimon just starts yelling and makes your head split in 2

Aether would put his hands on your ears when he tells paimon to leave

He sighs and gathers you into his arms to hold you, he truly was worried

He would try to make you chuckle a bit with some dad jokes to downplay his worry

I can see him trying to take all the burden on himself so you dont have to suffer any longer than you have to🥲 pls let him know that youre okay

he ends up cooking some fish for you, even if youre not hungry, he will try to make eating seem fun? in a way ig

he'll make the train noises or the airplane, maybe even tickle you a bit to get you to open your mouth

he'll also give you a bit of his clothing if youre cold, if youre the opposite, he will grab some more water from the pond you were fishing at

Aether was taking a long time at the pond so you gathered some flowers you found about the area, you were fine for the most part but you felt imbalanced

you saw aether in the distance and you walk to him before accidentally collapsing in his arms

if you get a low grade fever when you get the cold, he will freak out a bit, especially if you start coughing and he will take you to barbara

when he learns its just a cold from the church he will sigh in relief, glad youll be okay

he feels a tug on his sleeve and in his view he'll see some dandelions ticking his face as you push the flowers towards him

he pats your head and takes your gift, he'll continue to make you rest in the church and continue visiting til you get better! he n paimon will bring a few gifts too :D

Albedo

this mans is basically your own doctor and I feel like if he gets bored, he will abandon his work in a heartbeat (unless one of the mondstadt officials request his research djdjdj)

You're in dragonspine, a freezing place that you probably shouldnt be in due to your lack of clothes

when you start to sneeze a few times, albedo doesnt think too much at first, he's seen many people sneeze and be fine a few mins later

but when you keep sneezing, he keeps side eyeing you, silently observing you until you sneeze for the 5th time

he'll head over to you (you were looking at the view near his study in the mountains) before feeling your forehead and taking you away with the tug of his hand

lets say you get emotional when youre sick, so when you see albedo soft for you, you start to cry

he's obviously alarmed bc he doesnt know what emotions are-

just kidding, but he's mostly knowledged by the chemicals that go into how emotions are formed, having empathy is still a bit of a task for him

you'll start crying when he gave you some leftover soup from lunch and when he sits next to you, leaving a hand on your knee to quietly let you know that he's there

needing some emotional support, you place down the soup and give our cute piece of chalk a hug while feverishly murmuring nonsense about how much he means to you

he slightly chuckles, he's never seen you in this vulnerable state before

he'll place you in his lap, gently rocking you like he does w klee when she's sleepy

he'll even play w your hair to keep himself content

ik this man will get bored but he will do anything to make you feep better

sure he has his studies but he will continue to hold you until you sleep

when youre too sleepy to acknowledge anything he'll give you some meds before dreamland takes over

Bennett

has no idea what to do

also i only just realized how long these prompts are so i will try to shorten them a smidge

anyways he thinks he got you sick

he'll try to get you meds and then totally buys you the wrong ones

when he comes back to your bedside, he will be whimpering w sad eyes, but w one headpat from you and some encouragement he will try to get some soup

I think he'll then ask his dads to help bc boi needs support

when you actually sleep, you'll wake up w him on the complete other side of the room so he doesnt wake you lol

he'll have a card for you that all your friends signed and his dads actually bought you some soup from Sara and got medicine from the church

you thank bennet when you see how hard he worked for this

he has a dozen billion siblings

he knows what to do but will pretend he doesnt

He'll try to give you meds w out a glass of water to wash it down until you bonk him in the head w your sword

but if you actually start getting delirious or smth will he stop the happy go lucky act

he'll try to keep you asleep all day; only waking you when he needs you to eat

some crackers n gingerale👍🏻 his go to

he'll also have some weird family remedy like those potatoes in your sock or a clove of garlic by your bedside

but in the end he will cuddle you if you need some emotional support of help sleeping

he'll tell you funny stories of his family or stupid convos he has had w the fatui to make you smile

once youre all better he will tease you for the next 2 wks that you needed prince charming to save you from your illness

Diluc

I can see this man walking into your room late at night, he thinks youre asleep

he'll sit by your side and run his fingers through your hair and apologizing for not being there for you

he actually learned to make some soup himself just for you

and he bought some flowers on the way home

I can see him be more of a materialistic guy and you having to remind him that you have more than enough

if you 'wake up' when he's playing w your hair, he'll read you a story (like oml he has so many books) and hold you in a side hug

one of my favs but sorry he will be a wreck

he will probs be coming back from work w kokomi, going over new strategies blah blah

when he sees you on his doorstep, burning up and in tears

first of all, you scared this man to death✋🏻 its late at night and he thought you were a hobo w one too many drinks

he'll sigh w relief and bring you inside once he realizes that you arent capablw of too much in your ill state

he'll ask some guards walking by to get some medicine for your fever

I'm sure he has some blended juice or a convient meal to heat up, he is in the army

TotK Zonai and Sheikah Headcannon

Hey! I'll be spit-balling here so excuse me if it's a bit jambled.

My personal headcannon is the Zonai were a powerful tribe that existed alongside the Sheikah tribe. Zonai were described as powerful and barbaric, while the Sheikah were described as very intelligent. Maybe the differences in beliefs and values caused the two to fight? Power vs. wisdom has been a very common theme in the series. Since the Sheikah had the support of the royal family and goddess Hylia, they may have been able to force Zonai into undesirable terrain. The areas inhabited by Hyrluians and Sheikah were towards the middle of Hyrule in BOTW, so it is possible the Zonai had to travel around the middle to avoid conflicting with the Sheikah. This could explain why their architecture can be found in the corners, Faron, and the dark area near the lost woods. However, there are suggestions that the Zonai and Sheikah collaborated, with many Shrines being found in Zonai-built architecture. This could be the two tribes coming together after seeing visions of the future, or it could be the Sheikah building Shrines after the Zonai had lost power/died out. In addition, it looks like they came together to sealed gannon in the temple. There is very little information about the Zonai, so maybe the Royal family was purposefully hiding information about them. They could be tied to a massacre that the Royal family wants the rest of Hyrule to forget.

I have another theory that the mysterious figure shown in the trailer is the Goddess that the Zonai, Twili, and Gerudo worshipped. This Goddess could have given these tribes access to 'dark' magical knowledge. Since this Goddess was unfamiliar to the Hylians, they may have labeled her as inherently evil. In addition, most of the tribes who worshiped her came into conflict with Hylians at one point. I don't think she will be a villain in TotK. I think she (or her reincarnation/chosen one) will serve as a guide to Zelda and Link.

I think it would be fun to have a character who has narrative parallels similar to Zelda be the reincarnation of the other goddess. I imagine her as a former member of the Yiga Clan who's father is Sheikah and mother was a deserted Gerudo warrior who joined the Yiga Clan. She learnt ancient and forbidden forms of magic and knowledge from her parents, but once the tribe fell apart, went to explore the ruins in the Faron region and discover herself. Her personality would be rambunctious, curious, and intelligent, like a trickster. Her personality/journey could serve as a contrast to Zelda's, came from an evil tribe, dark magic came very naturally to her, was allowed to research ancient technology from a young age, confident and rambunctious, etc. She could help Zelda and Link to learn about the various ruins and unfamiliar magic. Her and Zelda could be seen to represent the dragon circle seen in the trailer.

So I found my own text post in a raven cycle fan post on Instagram (which was VERY surreal) so I figured I would elaborate on why I think gansey is autistic (or maybe more in the category of Asperger’s which is no longer a diagnosis since it’s just another way that autism can present itself but that’s what I was told I have and I can see some of the traits in him. Folks who were told they had Asperger’s are generally the “very smart and bright child who doesn’t know when to stop talking” variety of autistic, myself included, because were apparently very clever and smart but we can’t read facial expressions well).

I’m not saying this is 100% canon and everyone has to believe me, it’s just how I perceive him and I figured I would explain why! Also this is based purely on book one because I haven’t read the rest of the series yet :)

Eating mint leaves. One of the things that often accompanies autism (and other neurodivergencies but I’m focusing on autism here) is unique sensory things. Many people find it difficult to feel certain textures or don’t like being hugged which is referred to as sensory sensitive, but people can also be sensory seeking in a way that they enjoy textures that others don’t (such as walking around barefoot to feel the contents of the ground outside). The mint leaves are not only natural bee and wasp repellant, they also smell distinct and the leaves have a specific texture to them that isn’t really a typical crunchy or smooth one like lettuce. I once put a tomato leaf in my mouth when I was overwhelmed and it didn’t taste half as good as it smelled but it did have a funky texture that grounded me and helped me think more clearly

Masking. One thing autistic people learn to do as they grow up is called masking aka hiding their autistic features so they don’t get made fun of or treated poorly. Blue often notes that Gansey has a specific demeanor in public or when he needs to be in control of others where he seems more polished and confident in himself (the “president cellphone” side of Gansey). Sometimes, though, this side of him slips away and reveals almost a different person underneath. A lot of this is seemingly attributed to him being rich and his parents raising him to be polite and formal and such, but I could see it as his in public masking side as well

Special interests. I mean, who knows anything about welsh kings other than a very niche group of people? This was attributed to his near death experience where someone told him he would live because of Glendower, but I can see it as a hyperfixation of sorts too. He researches Glendower and the lay lines constantly, sometimes it’s the only thing he thinks about. He also lovingly crafted a journal detailing his findings and grows uncomfortable when it’s not around. The thing that really had me convinced of this was when he mentioned Ned Kelly and Blue didn’t know who that was. Gansey was genuinely confused for a second because he thought that was common knowledge. Man, I don’t know how to tell you this, but Australian outlaws aren’t exactly common knowledge to most people

Talking. I have never been too great at talking and only recently gained more confidence in it because I feel like I finally figured out how to understand when people are joking and when I should joke with them (I was bullied a fair amount as a kid so it took me a while to understand that friends sometimes tease each other by insulting each other. That means that half of the teasing I got in middle school could have totally been people trying to be friendly with me in their way and I just didn’t know that because I took their words at face value but I suppose we’ll never know). Multiple times in book one, Gansey thinks to himself about how he needs to use his words more wisely and think about them more carefully before he speaks so he doesn’t upset anyone. I do the same thing

The pig. Autistic folk are often very comfortable with things that others deem unusual and many of us have a hard time with change. Driving his car (which is a nice car but also old, unreliable and in his dad’s opinion, a bad idea) could be a form of Gansey staying in his comfortable zone because it’s what he’s used to. I do the same thing with my devices or blankets or clothes, I wear them out because I don’t want to replace them until I have to. They’re what I’m used to, after all. Upon getting a new computer and phone when it was time for me to upgrade both, on both separate occasions, I had a very strong reaction to the new device and the fact that they were mine and had to put them down for a long period of time to calm down because them being new and unfamiliar was too shocking for me (I did a lot of hand waving and shaking and teeth chattering which is what I do when I’m overwhelmed).

So yeah that’s my reasoning behind thinking Gansey could be autistic. There’s so little food and authentic representation aside from “little white boy who doesn’t talk, hates being touched, and likes trains” or “super genius with a stone face who is so tragically misunderstood” so I tend to look for it where I can haha. Howdy doody, professor! i'm messaging you as a Fairy type specialist who lives in the water focused resort city of Humilau. Over the summer, my Brionne and i have been trying to teach the rest of my little team to swim so that they're better prepared to handle battle with our many Water type opponents. My Mime Jr. is a very fast learner and presents no problem whatsoever, ironic considering they're the youngest. The main issue is the other two, Togetic and Impidimp. My Togetic is absolutely terrified of getting wet (baths have been an issue practically since he hatched, lol), so he just tires himself out attempting to hover high above the water as long as possible. Impdimp, on the other hand, refuses to take the lessons seriously and mostly spends his time bullying Togetic or gnawing on everyone's floaties and bodyboards. Do you have any advice on how to calm these two down? i'd really like them to learn so that they stand a chance against the other trainers here, but more than anything, i just want them to get along and overcome their issues in general. Thanks for reading and i patiently await your reply!

Togetic can take dust baths for the most part, they prefer it heavily over water, a damp cloth would suffice for any dirt and grime on their face or body. If they get too wet, they struggle to move quick enough and fly, so it’s far easier to mist them, let them preen their own feathers, and offer up a non-water method of caring for themselves. Once the baths have eased off their body will produce natural oils that are more resistant to water, and bring about healthy glossy feathers. Being scrubbed clean removes these, and makes life a lot more difficult. The most you’ll see a togetic do in the wild is splash about in bird baths, puddles, shallow creeks, fluff up a bit, then fly off. They’re not suppose to get too wet. If your Pokemon still seems resistant to the dust too, it might be worth socialising them with other flying types. Your partner may not know the behaviours needed for their own health and care seeing as they were hatched. It’s stuff they learn from their parents, so you know, most don’t get too much time to do that with their popularity. It’s not very common to even find them in the wild, and any colonies are often kept secret by researchers, to protect the species. If you can’t find another one of its own kind to pass this knowledge on, a friendly flying type would do, even a pidgey will know the correct ways to clean and care for their feathers, and they can share that information with your buddy if they seem confused at the process. With less cleaning in the conventional sense, your Pokemon should brighten up a bit and improve mood wise. Some Pokemon really do prefer the natural ways, baths aren’t for every species, some just do it different.

As for the behavioural thing, they must have some common ground. It’s the best place to start, and build up slowly from there. They obviously don’t get along, and that’s ok, they don’t have to be friends, they don’t have to even work together, they just have to tolerate being around one and other. Forcing friendships just isn’t the way for long term success and happiness. Sometimes Pokemon just don’t get along, a clash of personalities isn’t uncommon.

Put yourself in their shoes. If togetic gets too wet, it’s compromised in both speed and stamina, lugging around a lot of excess weight, making hovering above even harder. Get them something that floats to perch on and take breaks, your brionne could easily drag out a little dingy or something. They just don’t like being wet my dude, it’s not a case of them misbehaving or being difficult, it’s how they are, you gotta work with that, not against it.

Now impidimp I’ve had limited experience with, I must admit I didn’t even catch one when I visited galar, simply noticed them in the environment. Regardless of their species, you can look at their behaviour. Biting, bullying, having fun in their eyes. This is a Pokemon with a lot of energy and they need some serious direction in their training. Turn any activities into games, preferably ones that interest them. Lessons can be dull for any youngster, so taking five minutes to look up some fun ideas that suit their personality wouldn’t go amiss. Maybe don’t take the togetic? It’s not like they’re built for the water, and they’re burning themselves out trying to keep up, and aren’t getting on with the impidimp.

Not every Pokemon is built for our lifestyles, or a home with many varied Pokemon. I’m all for bringing out the best in Pokemon sure, but sometimes it’s evident that a Pokemon isn’t comfortable or as happy as they could be, and perhaps different kinds of activities and other Pokemon may suit them better, maybe even a part time job or new hobby while you’re out swimming? Anything that interests them should be looked into. Working with them at home on dry land might be best to play games and partake in activities that bring them together, to show them that in some situations they have to rely on each other. Here we do relays with mixed teams, each area of the assault course they go through is suited to different Pokemon, so they can all show off their skills and prove their metal, not only to themselves, but to their fellow partner Pokemon, who begin to understand that sometimes they need help from others, and they don’t get it if the others don’t like them. It can help a bit, and usually is a lot of fun.

A final note, do they want to fight? You seem keen on them standing up to other trainers in your area, but not all Pokemon want to battle. Try them out in different avenues, contests, cooking, sports, their talents may lie elsewhere.

Hi! Glad to write this one, it seems fun. I'm gonna go ahead and make it Autobots Reacting To A Techno-Organic Reader and add the part about the Decepticons trying to recruit them in some of it, assume that the reader has become techno-organic in whichever/whatever way you’d like. Also assuming this request was meant to be romantic, so I'm going to write it kind of that way, if that's alright. Hope you enjoy!

Optimus Prime: Dude... He’s overly cautious with you. Doesn’t want you to use your powers until you fully understand them, doesn’t want you in the eye of the public, doesn’t want the Decepticons to know you exist, but it’s out of some weird combination of guilt and love that he has over you. He’s fallen in love with you from the very start, but he feels guilty that you’re always brought into his conflict with the Decepticons and even targeted by them, and sometimes that comes off in the wrong way. There’s conflicts all the time between the two of you, because while you argue that you’re an adult who’s fully capable of handling your own safety, he argues that he’s just trying to protect you and that for both of your sakes, you need to heed his advice. I imagine one of these arguments gets so heated that he just comes out of the box and admits to you that he’s not doing it only out of obligation, but out of the intense love he feels for you. 

Ratchet: He’s definitely more mature than the others about it. He worries about you, but knows that you’re a capable adult, and that you aren’t his property to protect and lock down, but a beautiful, thinking, strong techno-organic who he simply wants to see happy. So, his form of protectiveness is mostly just tagging along when you go places and helping you when you either ask for it or clearly need it, but those things don’t happen very often. He’s happy supporting and loving you from the sidelines.

Bulkhead: You revealed that you were techno-organic to the Autobots as soon as you met and that you’d grown up that way after some sort of failed experiment that you didn’t want to get into the traumatic details of, but Bulkhead felt like he understood you pretty well. Both of you were large and scary compared to others of your species, often feared without others getting to know you first because of your power, judged without question, so he felt like he got you to a certain extent. He becomes noticeably protective of you after you start trying to join their battles with the Decepticons against Optimus’s orders, telling you that it’s not your responsibility to get involved in their conflict. You end up confessing afterwards that you love him and appreciate how kind he’s been to you, and that any battle of his is a battle of yours, and he can’t help but feel the same way. 

Bumblebee: Bumblebee is both irresponsible and obsessed with you from the very start, which is a horrible combo. He was interested in you before he found out you were techno-organic, before you even technically joined their team, but for some reason, when you revealed your powers to the Autobot team to protect him from Blitzwing in the middle of a battle, he was told by Optimus to protect you- which made sense, of course. Decepticons were closing in on them and both the Elite Guard and the Decepticons wanted to take you for their own causes, and with Bumblebee being the closest to you and the best at getting out of conflicts fast, it was his job. He doesn’t take it as seriously as he probably should and uses it as an excuse to spend time with you, but you don’t seem to mind, enjoying the time watching movies and playing videogames and teaching him your hobbies/skills. 

Prowl: Prowl finds techno-organics quite fascinating; you’re soft skin and (h/l) (h/c) hair and (e/c) with metal on your body in your transformed mode. You’re very alive and soft and delicate, but strong and durable and tough at the same time. He admires your beauty, your intelligence, your abilities, and doesn’t mind you assisting him and his team in combat like some of the others would, but he finds that he frequently has to help you assist in warding off attempts from Decepticons like Starscream, Lugnut, Blitzwing, and even Swindle to convince you to join them and help their cause with your powers. He doesn’t mind that either, enjoys the bonding that comes with battling by your side, even. The two of you sneak off a lot and go on camping trips together.

Ultra Magnus: The main reason you interact with him is that since unlike Sari, you’re an adult, and he wants to get to the bottom of how Cybertronian technology got into human hands to make techno-organics like yourself and Sari. So, with you and your team’s permission, he has the best scientists in the Elite Guard come to earth to do studies and research on you. He’s typically around supervising, and you and him become close, to say the least. He didn’t think he’d have much in common with you since you’re a young adult human and he’s an older Cybertronian, but you two have a lot of the same struggles; alienated by those you’re around for the power you hold, a lack of close relationships, unsure of how to handle all of your responsibility and the pressure to perform that comes with both of your positions. It’s difficult, and though he doesn’t divulge much, he finds it therapeutic to talk to you when no one else is around and finds himself harboring feelings for you after a while. 

Sentinel Prime: Sentinel assumes you’re just any regular human until he sees you absolutely clobber the Headmaster in your newly transformed, techno-organic body to get his body back for him after you and Optimus find his head on the city streets of Detroit. He didn’t know you possessed that kind of power and realized there was a reason for that lack of knowledge when Optimus immediately started scolding you for using your powers. After that, you were on the news since some reporter caught camera footage of you in your robotic form, and Decepticons started trying to lure you out of the base and talk to you/talk you into joining them. If Sentinel was being honest, he’d been wary of you at first for being organic, but after you stepped up to get his body back for him with Optimus despite him having been so rude to you, his opinion changed, and he quickly started developing feelings. So, he volunteered himself to help guard you from the Decepticons and train you to fully utilize your abilities, even if you were fully capable. Throughout the weeks of him being by your side, he softens up around you a lot, learning to laugh and joke and even be vulnerable with you until it hits him- oh, dear, he’s smitten with you. Definitely the most protective out of all of the Autobots and doesn’t like you being out of his sight, loves spending time with you even though he won’t admit it, etc. 

Jazz: He thinks you’re neat! As a bot who loves earth and earth culture, he’s fascinated by you, someone who’s both human and Cybertronian by the looks of it; you’re beautiful, intelligent, strong, and have an array of powers that you don’t bother hiding from anyone. However, that makes you a prime target for the Decepticons, who try to either eliminate you or recruit you whenever you have encounters, so Jazz is put in charge of keeping you safe and away from Autobot/Decepticon encounters while he’s on earth. You’re upset by it at first, upset that you can’t help your friends and need to be protected, but Jazz tries to ease the brunt of the emotional wound by keeping you company instead of acting only as a guard. The two of you share earth music, talk into the late hours of the night, and go exploring your favorite spots despite everyone telling you to stay at the base (it’s fine as long as he’s protecting you, right?). He falls for you pretty quick, admiring your strength and sense of adventure, and he has no problem singing his praises to you.

Do you have any thoughts on how the guardian role is handled lore wise? Would you change much about being the guardian?

Oh yes I do and there's so much that I would change up.

The more we see of the Guardians, the dumber they are and the more pointless they are. To a point it's a wonder if they were worth the inclusion as they don't amount to much and are just useless. I'm putting this undercut as I just go off.

- Lore wise, they set it up that adults are naturally more powerful, so why did Fu pick two kids to fight his battles for him? Why not adults? Why did he leave them on their own instead of offering them some means to have an edge over HM?

- Of the Ladybug and Cat, we have yet to see anything unique that the Cat brings to these fights that the other 15 miraculi that Fu has with him couldn't do. You need a distraction that's going to mess up the akuma? Monkey and Fox. You need a protector/aggressor? Bee, Turtle, or Dragon. Ladybug is a must as its the only cleanser so far and has ML to boot, but Cat doesn't need to be out there, and as soon as HM had quite publicly stated that he wants LB and Cat, Fu should've reclaimed the Cat immediately to secure its safety and that HM won't get both. Another or two could go out to replace it.

- Why was picking Adrien a good idea? If Fu had just arrived in Paris, ok, but Backwarder reveals he's been living in Paris for a while. And with that, he's seen Adrien's face everywhere.s Adrien is potentially the most well known kid in Pari. Technically, for Fu's want of secrecy, why pick the most iconic face in Paris to get a miraculous? That sets up one of your heroes to always have attention on him. Fu picking Adrien doesn't make any logical sense.

- Why is Fu ok with endangering one kid but not the other? Why does Marinette get a test set up that risks her life and Fu's if it hadn't gone well and Adrien just helps an old man up, a common decency that most would do. It's like two extreme differences that don't work well in comparison as Marinette gets the risky test and Adrien it looks like he got his miraculous on a silver platter as he got the far easier one that takes the least effort to be a decent human being.

- Fu being a terrible mentor and hero picker in general and the whole shebang with Syren. If Adrien is not meeting his standards or if he doesn't trust Adrien at all, why is Adrien being allowed to continue as a hero? Or if he really wants Adrien to stay, why isn't he doing anything about Adrien? Why isn't he telling Plagg to encourage Adrien to step up and get serious? If he can take on the role of being Adrien's Chinese teacher, why not do that to try and guide Adrien to improvement so he can also be trusted with Guardian secrets too and truly help Marinette out. He's got two options when he doesn't trust Adrien or finds that he's meeting his standards: he takes the miraculous back or he addresses this issue himself.

- I also call big BS about him not doing anything at all when he comes upon Adrien detransformed on the roof with Plagg. Cause he's risking himself going out to find Chat Noir only to find him detransformed. That realistically should raise some brows and concern him. Adrien at least should've gotten a lecture or warning.

- Also the reveal that kwamis aren't allowed to know about their own power. that to me is off putting. It really stresses that kwamis are beneath them, these very ancient and powerful beings that have probably seen a lot. And canon validates it by making them children (which to me is the writers being lazy so they don't have to do complex characters).

- The whole thing with Fu's backstory. Dumbest backstory I've ever heard and it just paints Guardians in a really bad light, and by extension, real life monks. Monks didn't go to people's homes to take children. If they did take kids with them, those kids had nowhere else to go and offered them a place to stay until old enough to be on their own. And that test, omg, wtf. Ok, I can get the idea of a test of temptation, but there are other ways to perform it without starving a kid. Especially leaving said kid alone unsupervised with 19 powerful miraculi two of which have wish granting abilities. How would the Guardians even know if Fu used a miraculous as they left him alone with mriaculi. If Fu wanted to, he could've made a wish to never be picked.

- Fu didn't even do shit when he finally had a chance to face off against HM. He just sat in his damb ball and allowed himself to get knocked around. At least try and roll over him! Be a ping-pong ball! DO SOMETHING. Like, why did you even pick Turtle??? Turtle wasn't able to do anything against Butterfly! I thought it could as Fu had been ready to go in Origins, plus the 5 are based off Wu Xing, by set up, Fox and Turtle should have some sort of an edge over the Butterfly. But I guess that means there could be other options aside form LB and we can't have that, Marinette's miraculous needs to be the only thing to take on the Butterfly to really stress on the fact that it comes down to only her.

- The memory wipe thing that's an apparently must when you retire from being the Guardian. Honestly I think that should've been saved as a last resort if you're ever captured and could be forced to leak info, not when you retire. Doing so removes a valid source of advisement that a new Guardian can rely on. History is there to learn from it and this tradition removes a source of history to learn from, either from having guidance or seeing what the old did and how you want to change things. This also makes me concerned as I see Adrien taking advantage of an amnesiac Marinette.

- I went off about the NY Special revealing there's more Orders here.

- And lastly, Su-Han, the other Guardian to see aside from Fu. And with him, it solidifies how stupid they all are. When the Butterfly is being misused in Paris, why is someone aggressive and judgmental coming to Paris? Why is this guy even working with kids when he doesn't like kids? And the reveal that Guardians don't use miraculi at all. That just makes that test all the dumber with testers being unsupervised. And for Guardians not meant to use miraculi, how come Marinette gets a nice perk as LB that she can pull a miraculous out of her yo-yo? They're probably playing that she's "the first" to do so but realistically, I'm pressing x to doubt. In the long history of miraculi and when Guardians were around, you expect me to believe that Guardians never used miraculi themselves? What if there was no one to turn to, do they just the disaster happen? ...Well, based on how terrible canon is setting them up, I wouldn't be surprised.

SO.

There is a lot I would change up about the Guardians and for this, I'll adjust canon.

- Adrien gets the ring another way, maybe a gift from his mom or aunt or grandparents. Realistically, there's no logical reason for Fu to pick Adrien. He just has too much attention on him and Chat being an unexpected miraculous user can make him wary, adding to him only trusting Marinette.

- I'd have Fu be more present in Marinette's life, a customer who comes in a lot. This way he can offer advise when needed but not take away from Tikki. And this has him more closely keeping an eye on things.

- I'd change up Fu's backstory. He got separated from his family in a flood, the previous Turtle saved him, tried to help him find his family and with no luck, took him to the Temple, but only the section where other orphans are where they work to help take care of it, oblivious to the miraculous near them. After a year, Fu is one of the few selected to be entrusted with miraculous knowledge. He's surprised but not all that for it as he'd rather go find his family still. Idk how Temple falls but its not that. That was just dumb and avoidable.

- I wouldn't have Adrien meet Fu at all. In truth, it actually could've been cut out entirely as Adrien meeting Fu didn't amount to anything. He doesn't help with Guardian duties, doesn't help pick heroes, hasn't stepped up at all in his role as a partner. And he's not as torn up about Fu's loss as Marinette is. Adrien meeting Fu was pointless in the grand scheme of things. Nothing was progressed or changed from Adrien meeting Fu.

- I'd have HM ONLY getting an edge on Fu because Mayura was there to help him, catching Fu off guard. I want to see the Turtle truly in action, to see what else it can do cause sitting there to be smacked around was just unimpressive. And if Asstruck even did as much research as he could, he'd know that in Chinese mythology, the Turtle is a boss. It's the keeper of history and symbol of immortality, and it's up there with Tiger as an animal that can go toe to toe with the Dragon. And of the Four Symbols (associated with 4 seasons), the Black Turtle is also known as the Black Warrior. There should've been a lot more to Turtle than just sitting in your shell and allowing yourself to be knocked around.

- Su-Han I'd drastically change up. I'd keep in him being critical and stern, but he approaches things smartly and patiently. Before he dives into aggression and accusations, he wants to know what's going on. Why does this 14 yo have the Miracle Box? How was the Butterfly obtained and misused? And what the hell is going on??? How are these people so small and how did they get into this thin glass box?? Computer? What's a computer??? Essentially, have fun with the fact that Su-Han is essentially a time traveler and one great bonding experience to have with Marinette while also offering some good comedy is him learning about the modern time and her acting as his guide. Su-Han can give her guidance that Fu hadn't been able to give, and Marinette can offer her own in a way that Su-Han will need. Which by extension could remove Marinette having a near mental breaking point and revealing herself to Alya, and could avoid some of that drama of what's coming.

- Speaking of which, Adrien. I'd use Su-Han to finally address the issues with Adrien as a hero and partner. Su-Han prioritized Marinette as she has the Miracle Box, but Adrien is someone he'd take the miraculous away from. Adrien would get a very clear warning and call out for his actions and role.

This prompt caused me to have revelations about Kinji's heritage. Thank you, anon friend, I hope you like Castlevania references. bloodlines

The day's battle wasn't, for the most part, too bad, but the Hitokarage were able to ambush Takaharu and Fuuka before the others could get there, and they're both pretty banged up. Fuuka got the worst of it by far and is now she's lying down making irritated noises while Kasumi takes care of her. Yakumo is researching this new yokai and arguing in a sort of vague way with their grandfather while Nagi gets books for him. And, across the room from where Fuuka is becoming an increasingly poor patient, Kinji finishes fastening a bandage around Takaharu's head and reaches for the cotton balls and rubbing alcohol to start taking care of the long cut on his hand and says, "Hey, Takaharu-boy, have you ever thought about traveling once this whole situation is taken care of? I bet you'd like Arizona."

"I mean, I haven't thought about it a ton, but that could be cool. Where's Arizona? Is that in America?"

"Yes, it's where I grew up. Although we traveled all over, of course. Hold still." Kinji squints down at the palm of Takaharu's hand as he disinfects the cut. "I learned how to do things like this, take care of big cuts, when I was very young and my father took me and Reiji on a trip to Texas to hunt with the Morrises. Well...Reiji got to hunt, I was staying at the house. But I got to help with bandages, Miss Morris showed me how."

Takaharu frowns. "The Morrises?"

"Yes! It was a big honor! Stop moving your fingers." Kinji's face is transformed by a grin as he grabs the roll of gauze again. "We're connected by a training lineage, though, John Morris taught my great-grandfather."

A slow nod. "Ok. Who's John Morris?"

There's a noticeable silence before Kinji says, sounding baffled, "Do you not know who the Morrises are?"

"No."

"They're one of the great Western monster-hunting families! Second only to the Belmonts, although they're actually related so it's not really second. I'm named after John Morris's father, he fought Dracula."

Takaharu's brow wrinkles. "We fought Dracula. He was named Kinji?"

"Well, we changed the spelling a little. Quincey Morris lost his life fighting Dracula more than a hundred years ago. Dracula was dormant for a while after that, he just sort of pops back up occasionally. Seriously, stop moving your fingers." Recovered from his shock at Takaharu's lack of familiarity with this apparently common monster-hunting knowledge, Kinji goes back to wrapping gauze around his hand. "And his son John trained my great-grandfather Kinshiro Takigawa, and Kinshiro trained my grandfather and grandmother, who trained my father, who trained me and my brother."

"That's pretty cool, I didn't know yokai hunters had lineages like that."

Kinji inspects his work and, satisfied, snips the end of the gauze and fastens the dressing. Then, after a moment's consideration, he lifts Takaharu's hand and kisses the back, right over the bandage. "There you go."

Takaharu blinks, looking surprised. "Was that part of the bandage process or are you just kissing me for fun?"

"It's how Miss Morris taught me to do it." Beat, as a flush slowly spreads across Kinji's nose and cheekbones. "Although now that I think of it, maybe she just thought it was a cute thing to teach a little boy to do."

"I mean, it's pretty cute now."

"You...think so?"

"Oh, yeah." Takaharu's broad grin returns. "You did get a scrape on your hand, want me to do you now?"
