#Maze thoughts

Was working on a Maze doodle that has decided to evolve into a full work but I was messing with his hair and ya know. I gave him a lil ponytail, for when he's in his comfy clothes.

Maze wearing his worn out shirt and the bottoms of his reds. Maybe Zey got him some fuzzy socks.

Maze curled up in bed with his glasses on and hair pulled back so he can read his novel in peace while pausing to answer coms from his siblings and the other alphas he's friends with.

the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

after playing COH, i'm a bit sad to see how underrepresented it is in links meet aus (and just in general.) luckily, i am an artist, so i thought i'd try designing what COH link would look like if he was redesigned by various artists!

The “Jason died to teach Apollo empathy” take reallllly bothers me, because… no..? That’s not what happened..??

Ignoring the fact that Apollo was willing to take his own life minutes before in an attempt to save Meg, Piper, and Jason - he’s been putting his life on the line for others since THO.

You can make the argument that the only reason he went after Kayla and Austin was because they were his kids if you want, but even throughout The Dark Prophecy he was willing to die if it meant saving someone else. He went out of his way to save Lityerses despite the fact he was his enemy, he straight up admitted to Trophonius that he was willing to die for Meg even though she betrayed him for Nero in the prior book, and then he went back to fight for the Waystation with a broken arm because they went through so much effort in supporting him through his trials. It’s actually baffling just how easy it is for him to fall in love with humanity, it’s not something he had to learn!

Jason had stuck his neck out for Apollo in BOO because he saw injustice. He knew Zeus was looking for a scapegoat and he used what little power he had against the king of the gods to try to spare his half-brother. Jason knew that even though he had been nothing but loyal to the gods and had saved the world twice over (cough cough fighting a titan bare handed and defeating Gaea alongside the seven cough cough), he was still just a cog in the system. He was only mortal. The most change he could make to the status-quo was ensuring that the other minor gods were represented in Camp Jupiter, but then he was issued a death sentence months later, so what power did he have really?

But you know who could make a difference?

Apollo. Apollo could.

The thing is, as much as Apollo complained about being a mortal, I honestly believe he would have rejected godhood had Jason not died. He had almost died several times over and the only one who offered him any Olympian assistance was his sister. He resented the Olympians for having all the power in the world and choosing to use none of it to help him or his friends. Apollo's biggest fear - one that overruled dying in my opinion - was becoming a god again, once again a puppet of his father, and falling back into his old ways out of fear and self-preservation.

I can't even count the amount of times where he was on the brink of death and felt relief and satisfaction at the thought of everything being over. He didn't want to die, but it was an escape from having to one day stand up against his father, his abuser. It was the easier alternative even if it was ultimately the worse one.

But Jason made him promise to keep going. To remember.

He had to get back to Olympus, remember all that has been sacrificed in order to return him to godhood so that he could make a better future. He has to live forever to ensure that generation after generation of demigods have someone supporting them indefinitely. So that they would not be as fearful and powerless as he was. He has to be immortal again so that he can use his power for good, as much as that scares him.

He had to become a god so he can look Zeus in the eyes and say "No, this is never happening again."

That's what Apollo learned.

Y’all ever just wonder if Newt and Thomas or Sonya and Harriet—or whatever queer TMR ship you like—were queer before the trials but WICKED erased the entire idea of homosexuality when they went in? So if anyone felt a certain way about someone else in their maze, they would be more fearful to act on it because that had no defining recognition of anyone ever feeling the same way as them.

Thomas was in love with Newt. Newt was in love with Thomas. The thing is though, Newt had the flare. So, Newt knew that if he were to tell Thomas, then his death would hurt more. But Newt knew Thomas loved him, or could love him. And Thomas loved him through what he did for him. But couldn't place it. So yes, Thomas loved Newt and Newt loved Thomas. So, they had love..they just didn't have time.

Underrated Valgrace moment: after the big battle with the Giants in Blood of Olympus, Jason looks first at the Argo II (the last place that he saw Leo) and then his eyes find Leo in his crowd of friends. Leo is mentioned by name and described. No one else is. Not even Piper.

Jason’s priorities are literally “Leo is fine!!! And everyone else is also here I guess” LMAO

On a significantly less funny note: something about the way Jason and Leo instinctively look for each other in a crowd because their first priority in any given situation is that the other one is okay. Something about how Jason looks for Leo here and finds him. Something about Leo’s eyes instinctively searching for Jason in ToA and not finding him.

the way newt started calling thomas Tommy out of nowhere and no one questioned it makes me genuinely ill. its like neither of them realized it and just fell back into routine bc it was just how it was before the maze,, like a habit so engraved in their beings that it transcended wickeds memory manipulation. and dont even get me STARTED on the entire plot of The Fever Code this book destroyed me. i think abt that one chapter where thomas helps newt see his little sister for the first time in years on a daily basis. and the fact that thomas went into the maze for newt? yeah. "newt and the others" yeah. AND the entire scene with newt telling thomas about his suicide attempt, not knowing that thomas had witnessed it all in real time behind the cameras? YEAH.

something about the fact that in the movies newt wouldn’t have even bothered to tell everyone about the flare and they only found out bc he freaked out on thomas thanks to the effects of the disease. bc he probably prefered to suffer and die in silence bc he thought saving minho and the other kids wicked held hostage was more important than caring abt him slowly dying. and yet he was still afraid.

and in the book he found out at the same time as the other gladers he wasn’t immune and probably forced himself to keep it together so he wouldn’t bother and worry his friends (thomas, especially), and still was so scared of dying and probably angry at the fact his friends were immune and he wasn’t.
