"The frigate 'ROANOKE,' subsequently to the Civil war, was roconstructed at the Brooklyn navy yard. Her masts were removed; her sides armored: wod her broadside battery was replaced by an all-big-gun armament of six heavy guns mounted in three armored turrets. The correspondent who sent us the above illustration suggests that she was the first of the "Dreadnoughts."
U. S. S. 'ROANOKE,' 1863. is this the prototype of the modern dreadnought."

“The impact of both new technology and the growing influx of immigrant workers can best be seen in the New England textile mills. In the 1820s and 1830s, young women from the farm country of New England went to work in the massive brick textile factories springing up along the Merrimack River near Lowell, Massachusetts, and other New England towns. In 1820, Lowell--then called Chelmsford--was a sleepy village of about 200 farm families, located about 25 miles northwest of Boston. Six years later, it had grown into a town of 2,500 and was incorporated as the town of Lowell. In 1830, the population surged to 6,000, and tripled to 18,000 just six years later. By 1850, Lowell boasted a population of 33,000.
What created this booming growth was the rise of the textile industry. Other New England mill towns also grew, but Lowell quickly became the center of the New England textile industry and drew workers--mostly single women as young as 16 or 17--from across New England. These women generally came from the middle ranks of farm families, those that were neither impoverished nor wealthy. The desire to be financially and socially independent, to finance an education, or to simply experience the pleasures of living and working in a larger town drew many young farm women to the mills. Some women did contribute their earnings to their families, but mostly they worked in the mills to earn their own income.
…Mill owners insisted that their female hands be in their boarding houses by 10 o’clock each evening, and they urged boarding house keepers, usually older women, to report any violators to the management. In the early years, women were required to attend church services regularly, and some mill owners even deducted pew rent from the women’s earnings and paid it directly to local churches. These close living and working arrangements created a camaraderie among the women workers, a community of like-minded women who eagerly wanted to improve their minds and their lives. Throughout the 1830s and 1840s, they organized and attended lectures, language classes, sewing groups, and literary ‘improvement circles’--after working a 12-hour day. From one of these circles was born the Lowell Offering, the first journal ever written by and for mill women. The journal published poetry, short stories, and commentary penned by the female workers.
Workers also organized themselves into labor-reform groups to crusade for better working conditions and shorter workdays. As technological innovations enabled women to work faster and produce more, mill owners assigned more machines to workers--without raising wages. For example, at Hamilton Company, one of the mills in Lowell, the average number of looms per weaver more than doubled between 1840 and 1854. The workload for spinners increased as well. Workers were expected to operate more machines at a faster rate. But wages remained the same--although the company reaped higher profits from the workers’ increased productivity.
…In 1846, Elias Howe introduced the first sewing machine. Five years later, in 1851, the addition of a foot treadle for easier operation made the machine an indispensable tool. But instead of easing the sewer’s burden, the sewing machine increased it. Hand sewers could no longer compete with the sewing machine. In one day, one sewing machine operator could do as much work as six hand sewers. Hand sewers were forced to buy or rent sewing machines, or work in garment factories, where they had no control over their wages or hours.
To make matters worse, seamstresses, like the mill workers of New England, were expected to work faster and produce more while working for the same wages. New technology, such as the sewing machine or improved looms, enabled consumers to buy manufactured goods at reasonable prices--but at the expense of factory workers, who were not paid a fair wage for operating this new technology.
…Despite the long hours and low wages, women still preferred working in factories to being domestic servants. At least factory workers had some free time; servants were on call 24 hours a day. Domestics worked up to 16 hours a day, with one afternoon off each week. They earned $1 to $1.25 a week plus board. Servants’ duties varied according to their employers’ requirements and the number of other servants employed in the house. But in general, the work was very demanding. Domestics devoted entire days to washing, baking, ironing and cleaning each room. They were accustomed to heavy physical work--cleaning out fireplaces or emptying chamber pots--and trudging up and down staircases several times a day.
Besides enduring the back-breaking work, servants also had to endure the snobbery of their social ‘superiors.’ During the colonial era, servants were treated as part of the family and joined in all household activities. By the mid-19th century, however, they were regarded as mere hired hands, and were viewed as an inferior class. The Boston census of 1845 categorized servants as part of the ‘unclassified residue of the population.’ No wonder that young women wanted to avoid the social stigma of being a domestic.”
- Harriet Sigerman, “‘I Never Worked So Hard’: Weavers, Stitchers, and Domestics.’” in An Unfinished Battle: American Women, 1848-1865

today is a twofer brought to you by @buddyhollyscurls
1. Are you named after anyone?
No :^) people have asked me before if I was named after Princess Diana but. No it’s just the only other name my parents could agree on for a girl. I’m the second born in a set of twins with two older brothers, so my parents never anticipated having to name another girl until they got the news.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Couple days ago over pain and health anxiety.
3. Do you have kids?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no. But I have four chickens that I love dearly.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
I’m generally pretty witty and jovial but I’d say I’m less sarcastic than just silly and goofy. I’m not one of those people that sees sarcasm as the funniest sort of humor; I use it sparingly. I prefer to be the joke.
5. What sports do you play/have played?
NONE lol. But watching swordfights in Shakespeare plays recently (and also a cute artist’s model I used to have a crush on) has made me have passing thoughts of “what if I tried fencing...” (never gonna happen though, especially not now with my health being what it is)
6. What's the first thing you notice about people?
Physically or personality-wise? If someone meets me in real life they probably notice my red hair, I suppose, since that’s a rather rare trait. But I don’t post my face all that much, especially not anymore, so it’s not like everyone who interacts with me here would first notice that. They probably notice my eclectic mix of interests and eccentric personality first.
Although in real life I’m very reserved; I don’t share much of myself. People often pick up despite that though that I’m rather intelligent, and I don’t say that as though *I* think I’m exceptionally intelligent, but that is the way people treat me automatically sometimes when I’m not necessarily trying to show off. Idk it’s weird. I’ve always very much been the “quiet smart girl” when that’s not what I feel best represents me. It’s a very limiting role to be assigned. It’s like being written off, in a way.
7. What's your eye color?
Bleu, bleu, l’amour est bleu...
(that is a Vicky Leandros song)
8. Scary movies or happy endings?
Scary movies WITH happy endings. Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale.
9. Any special talents?
One could argue my poetry portrays some level of talent... cough follow @creatediana
10. Where were you born?
The Merrimack Valley region of New England. Miss Mary Mack Mack Mack all dressed in black black black. Fun fact that song is a reference to the Merrimack River and NOW YOU KNOW.
11. What are your hobbies?
Probably reading and writing are the major ones, but I’ve also enjoyed a lot of music in my life (both playing it and listening to it... but I’ve always been better at listening than playing). Acting and theater for a very short stint, although I wouldn’t be opposed to doing it ever again under the *very correct* circumstances (which would basically have to fall in my lap because I’m never seeking that shit out again).
12. Do you have any pet?
My doggy Dickens who is a little bastard fucker and also my sweetheart. Dickens ‘n chickens.
13. How tall are you?
5′7″ but... I can get on my knees if you need me to be smaller
14. Favorite subject in school?
I loved all of them, truly. Especially in college, my enjoyment depended a lot more on the enthusiasm of my professor than the subject. But one thing I’ve learned to love more in recent years is science and the visual arts. Those always eluded me when I was younger. But back in the day my favorite classes were theater, English, Spanish, history, and my guitar classes. Typical humanities girly.
15. Dream job?
Job? Fuck you, pay me.
I’m a schoolteacher.
I would like it better if it had more financial incentives and if there weren’t so many systemic failures in the education system.
I tag: uhhmmm let me see... I’ll do @sneez @david-watts @dylaissante @angelblooms @personshapedsplder @titoro @shecomesincolors @nebylitsa @porsiempretriste and @renjunnipeikko .... if you can HANDLE IT
(or just if you want to)
(anyone can do this actually and tag me back I love you guys xoxox)

Sad to hear they've given up trying; my elementary school was involved in one of those reintroduction efforts. We had a fish tank in the front lobby of the school that they put the eggs in so we could watch them hatch & grow and then, when they were big enough, we went on a field trip to the release point & everyone got to let a little salmon fry loose in the river. They even taught us a song in music class about restoring the Merrimack river (it was called "All Along the Merrimack" iirc)!

They are the first. They made it through their general classes, passed CPR and additional tests, and achieved the minimum 3.3 GPA to become nursing students in their junior year. Then they studied, worked in health care, learned to draw blood and give injections, practiced their skills, and studied some more. Now, they will be Saint Leo University’s first graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. Twelve students make up the first cohort to graduate from the university’s nursing program. They are: Nathanael Allen, Wesley Chapel, FL, Wharton High School, Tampa, FL; Kimberly Cotal, Spring Hill, FL, Central High School, Brooksville, FL; Mekhai Dinnard, Wesley Chapel, Wesley Chapel High School; Emily Edwards, Cape Cod, MA, Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School; Martina Encomienda, Wesley Chapel FL, Cypress Creek High School; Emily Gray, North Kingstown, RI, North Kingstown High School; Emma Hayhurst, Merrimack, NH, Bishop Guertin High School, Nashua, NH; Grace Lundfelt, Land O’ Lakes High School; Laynee Marsee, Dade City, FL, Pasco High School; Alexis Musser, Dade City, FL, Pasco High School; Brenna Reinhard, Tarpon Springs, FL, East Lake High School; and Ava Valenti, Manorville, NY, Eastport-South Manor High School. “They didn’t simply meet the expectations of our program; they helped shape them,” said faculty member Paige Porter, who holds a Master of Science in nursing with a specialization in nursing education. “Their legacy sets the standard for those who will follow in their footsteps.” Saint Leo University Bachelor in Science Nursing Program’s Beginnings Not only did the university recognize the need for nurses when it launched the bachelor’s degree in 2021, but so did the Florida Legislature, Gov. Ron DeSantis, area health care and government leaders, and several generous donors. They provided additional funds to build the program and create learning spaces for the future health professionals. In February 2025, Saint Leo held the grand opening for its new nursing space on the second floor of Benedictine Hall, which includes two conference rooms, two classrooms, five offices, three simulation rooms, one assessment room, one simulation control room, nursing lab, lounge, and study spaces. “Our simulations were very well thought out and creative, using the most up-to-date technology, allowing us to experience certain health situations such as delivering babies and providing wound care,” said senior Laynee Marsee, of the opportunities provided by the new simulation rooms and equipment. Self-Care Equals Better Patient Care Four themes are embedded in Saint Leo’s nursing courses: evidence-based practice, interprofessional communication, culture of health, and clinician well-being. Saint Leo’s nursing students not only are learning how to take care of others, but they’re also learning to take care of themselves. Dr. Kathleen Van Eerden, dean of the College of Health Professions, who is also a registered nurse, noted that during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, “we saw many nurses leave the profession. We saw how important it was for nurses to be resilient and to manage stress.” She said it was important for Saint Leo’s program to help students build the skills they need to be happy in their choice, so that they have a long career in nursing. “Understanding that nursing has a high probability of burnout and compassion fatigue can help me be more aware of work-life balance and taking breaks when I need them,” said soon-to-be nursing graduate Nathanael Allen. The focus on clinician well-being is important to the Class of 2025. “It’s made a difference in how I handle my stress,” said Mekhai Dinnard, who balanced her studies with working two to three jobs — as a nurse extern at Moffitt Cancer Center and as a registered behavior technician working with children on the autism spectrum. “Nursing school is hard and being a new- graduate nurse will be extremely hard as well, especially in the beginning. It’s important that I prioritize my mental health in order to give the best care possible to my patients.” Saint Leo Provides a Unique Approach to Nursing Education During Spring Semester 2024, the nursing program’s then-juniors embarked on a new journey in clinical education and gained one-on-one training with nurse preceptors (mentors) at AdventHealth Zephyrhills (FL).  Thanks to a partnership between the university and AdventHealth, an innovative Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) was created to prepare train future nurses and potential employees. In the typical clinical model, a nursing instructor in the hospital mentors eight nursing students, and each student initially is assigned to one patient. But with the DEU model, because the student is paired with their mentor, the student works alongside that nurse, who usually is assigned a caseload of patients.  Saint Leo students worked side-by-side for 12-hour shifts with their mentors and university nursing instructor Porter. In 2025, the DEU program expanded to include AdventHealth Dade City. “I chose Saint Leo’s nursing program because of its dedication to building a brand new nursing program that is committed to excellence and student success,” Emma Hayhurst said. “The program's emphasis on hands-on clinical experience with the DEU preceptorship model and a supportive learning environment aligns perfectly with my goals as a future nurse.” For Ava Valenti, her favorite part of the nursing program was the clinicals. “Especially the DEU where I got to apply everything I learned in real time with a single preceptor,” she said. “The hands-on experience made the lectures come to life and helped me build confidence in my skills.”  Saint Leo’s senior nursing students found the DEU experience with AdventHealth invaluable. “Our preceptors went out of their way to teach us everything they could and let us gain clinical skills,” Brenna Reinhard said. “Using the DEU model, there was never a time we felt unwelcome within our clinical experience.” Fellow Class of 2025 member Grace Lundfelt added that Saint Leo’s nursing program “gave me courage to have confidence in myself and my skills,” she said. “Doing the DEU program expanded my knowledge and independence in my skills. After completing the DEU program, I felt confident in every unit I went to.” As the students worked in and learned about various units at AdventHealth Zephyrhills and Dade City, as well as working in behavioral health, community care senior/geriatric care, they gained insight to different types of nursing. “My most important moments were spent in their ICU, where I was able to know with confidence that I wanted to pursue that type of nursing,” Martina Encomienda said. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to rotate through Critical Care with them.” Kimberly Cotal enjoyed her DEU experience as it built a solid foundation for her future career. “I was on Med Surg 3 for two semesters and was with the same preceptor the entire time, who was a wonderful and extremely knowledgeable nurse,” she said. “I liked this approach because we were placed with nurses who wanted to teach, rather than being pushed off onto just any nurse, and were able to see what a nurse’s day truthfully consists of.” Learning about all the opportunities available in the future was key for nursing student Alexis Musser. “I look forward to all of the opportunities to come,” she said. “I feel a sense of security knowing that there are so many different jobs and specialties within the field of nursing. There is never a ‘dead-end.’” Learning from Each Other As Saint Leo’s nursing students prepare to graduate on May 7 and enter various health care fields, they’re proud to be the first cohort. “This program taught me that I am far more capable than I ever thought I could be,” said Emily Edwards. “I have learned and experienced more than I thought I would in the short time I have been in the program. It has given me the strength I needed to not only pursue this career, but also find a passion for it. Emily Gray said she chose Saint Leo’s nursing program because she knew that her education would be tailored to fit her needs. “Through this growing program, students have been encouraged to provide input and express their perspectives,” Gray said. But the learning wasn’t all on the part of the students. Porter said she learned “as much from them as I hope they’ve learned from me. They reminded me of the power of perseverance in uncertain moments, the strength found in community, and the incredible transformation that takes place when students begin to believe in themselves.” What’s Next for Saint Leo U's 1st Graduating Bachelor's Degree Nurses? The seniors will take part in a pinning ceremony at 10 a.m., Monday, May 5, in the Greenfelder-Denlinger Boardrooms at the Student Community Center. They will receive a pin representing their graduation from Saint Leo University’s nursing program. Nursing pinning ceremonies are rooted in history and the ceremony today has ties to Florence Nightingale, known as a founder of modern nursing. For her work during the Crimean War, she was awarded the Red Cross of St. George in the 1860s. Now, Saint Leo’s nursing graduates proudly will wear their pins, indicating they have the skills and compassion to join the field. Some of the students have accepted positions or have offers locally at AdventHealth, Lakeland Regional Health, Tampa General Hospital, Moffit Cancer Center, and BayCare health care facilities. “They are ready — more than ready — to take their place in the world as nurses,” Porter said. “And I’m truly honored to have been part of their story.” Feature Image: 2025 First Graduates of Saint Leo University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program Seated: Laynee Marsee, Emily Gray, Kimberly Cotal, Grace Lundfelt, Mekhai Dinnard, Martina Encomienda Back row: Brenna Reinhard, Ava Valenti, Emma Hayhurst, Emily Edwards, Alexis Musser, Nathanael Allen Photos by Caroline Jorgensen, Saint Leo University Read the full article

Grutter v. Bollinger
By Catherine Kavalauskas, University of California Davis Class of 2026
January 1, 2024
Tumblr media
Grutter v. Bollinger is a 2003 landmark Supreme Court Case. The suit surrounds the Equal Protection Clause under the 14th Amendment. In summary, the suit questions the constitutionality of factoring in race in admission decisions to diversify student bodies.
In 1997, Barbara Butter applied to the University of Michigan Law School. The university is one of the top Law Schools in the Nation. In brief, Butter is a white woman who is a resident of the state of Michigan. According to Oyez, she applied to the law school with, “a 3.8 undergraduate GPA and an LSAT score of 161.” Generally, law schools focus on student’s academic ability along with their experiences, talent, potential, etc. These factors are evaluated through a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and an essay that describes how the applicant will contribute to the school and diversity, etc. Moreover, after reviewing her application Butter was denied admission, despite her test scores and high GPA (2).
Since the university decided to reject her, the university has confirmed that they factor race in making admission decisions because it serves a “compelling interest in achieving diversity among its student body.” Moreover, Buttler filed this suit, arguing that the school violated the Fourteenth Amendment. She argued that the school took race as a predominant factor, granting applicants within minorities a greater chance of admission than students from other racial groups (with the same credentials).
The underlying question that the Grutter v. Bollinger Supreme Court Case presents is whether the University of Michigan Law School’s use of racial diversity/ preferences in the admission of students violates the Equal Protection Clause (of the Fourteenth Amendment).
In conclusion, the Court ruled that the Equal Protection Clause does not prevent universities and other institutions of education from considering race in admissions to increase diversity within a student body. In their ruling, the Court recognized the educational benefits that come from a diverse student body. Moreover, studies have shown that diversity within schools and universities is crucial. Diverse populations of students lead to “stronger empathy, self-confidence – feelings of self-worth, and greater collaboration” (3). Furthermore, diverse communities of students allow students to benefit educationally as they are introduced to, work with, and learn from people of various backgrounds and cultures.
Additionally, not only did the Court recognize the educational benefits that come from a diverse student body, but they also argued that Buttler cannot base her rejection off predominantly race. Moreover, the Law School applicant process conducts an individualized review of each applicant, therefore, an individual cannot base their rejection or acceptance on a singular variable such as race. Many factors contribute to the acceptance or rejection of an applicant alongside race (4).
This case emphasizes the importance of continuing to educate the public about the importance of diversity within educational institutions. Diversity among student bodies not only benefits all students within that body, but also grants equal opportunity to people of all cultures and backgrounds.

NAME:   Emily Merrimack AGE:   Thirty (A Hundred Twenty-One) SEXUALITY:   Pansexual HEIGHT:   5′9″ PRONOUNS:   She/Her OCCUPATION:    Former Stage Actress & Zombie ABILITIES:    Undead physiology, unaffected by stabbing, can detach and reattach limbs (when as a zombie), no need to eat or breath, immunity to physical pain, phasing (when as a zombie) and transformation
If anyone were to ask about the story of Emily Merrimack, it’s likely the one they’ll receive is a story filled with so much love, wealth, and admiration, but also one that ends with such an unfortunate tragedy. However, that is only one part of her story, for as fortunate as her beginnings were, no one knew how tragic the ending of her short-lived life truly had been. Nor how her death was a mere accident—but a murder.
Born in 1902 to a family of wealth, Emily was but a kind-hearted and sweet soul. Even as a child, she never was one to let things such as her family’s wealth and fortune get to her head. Rather, she adored the simpler things in life, such as being outdoors, playing music, or mingling with the town’s folks regardless of what class they were. And it was that kind-heartedness that many adored about Emily, most falling for her charms and wishing nothing more than the best for her in life.
Gifted with the ability to play the piano, originally Emily went for high education regarding arts related with music. She was fortunate to have been able to pursue any form of education she desired for she knew she never needed to worry about where she was going in life. However, music did not become the path she ended up with. Rather, during her learning, Emily discovered a new form of art she soon fell in love with— the art of acting. It was as if by chance she discovered it when an old schoolmate of hers asked if she should recite lines with him for he needed to learn his part but couldn’t do so without a partner. And it was that moment when she first held that hastily written script within her hands, and she was told to emote the words before her with as much passion as she could was when Emily knew that this was the path she wished to pursue.
Though she was never one who lived for the spotlight or attention, she soon found herself immersed by the art that was pretending to be someone else. In fact, Emily became so good at it that by the time she was twenty-one years of age, it didn’t become long before she began landing roles. Of course, the parts were nothing more than minuscule at first (although many would claim that if she had wanted to, she could've landed her first major role from the start with how wealthy her family was), but with time those parts than became bigger and bigger until she finally landed her first major role. Her time within the limelight flourished then.
For the next couple of years, there was not a time, day, or place where people weren’t uttering her name. Everyone knew who Emily was— everyone adored and loved her! Not only was she a star in their eyes, but she was still as kind-hearted and sweet as she could be. Who didn’t love her? And she too loved everyone in return. But though she had the admiration of the public and was doing what she loved, there was one thing still missing in her life— partner she could spend it with.
It wasn’t as if she lacked any suitors— on the contrary there had been many who wanted her. Not only was she talented, kind, and wealthy, but she was also a beauty known for miles around. Anyone would kill to be able to call Emily theirs. But even with so many suitors, none were able to succeed in winning her heart. Until she met him.
Barkis Bittern was a poor man who came from nothing, but he was also charming, handsome, and had a way with his words that helped him get to where he was in life. Emily met him during her latest filming, as he was her male lead within the film. At that time, she was familiar with many faces, but his was one that was new, and like the friendly and good-natured person she was, Emily introduced herself to him. Of course, he already knew who she was, but unlike others who fawned over her, Barkis greeted her warmly and gently in return. Since then, she would greet him every single day before filming, giving extra time to speak with him and inquire about his day. But as time went on, the longer the conversations between one another became, and the closer and more she familiarized herself with him, she rapidly but surely began to fall for his charms. Until before she knew it, Emily had fallen completely and utterly in love with Barkis.
Falling in love with Barkis may not have been her intention, but once she had fallen there was no turning back for Emily. This was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, and once he confessed to have fallen for her in return that meant for the next step— asking for her hand in marriage. Now, her parents were not accepting of her relationship with him. On the contrary, they refused his request for Emily’s hand as her father and mother deemed Barkis unfit for her due to him having no fortune to his name. Despite this, Emily didn’t care. She didn’t want a partner who was as wealthy as she was, she wanted a partner who would love and cherish her for the way she was, so what does it matter if he had no fortune? It’s what he felt on the inside is what counts!
Her parents’ refusal had left Emily heartbroken, yet Barkis convinced her that they didn’t need her parent’s approval and they could still elope without it. Wanting nothing more than to be with him, Emily agreed. But with the filming and how busy her schedule was, she didn’t have the time to do so. That was when Barkis came up with an idea. In the film they were filming, there was a wedding scene within the forest where their characters wed one another before a sword attack occurs, and so her love thought that instead of them merely playing the part, why not have the scene become a reality? At first, she didn’t believe they could achieve such a thing but the longer she thought it over, the more enticing the idea was. Especially when it meant her parents couldn’t stop them even if they were to find out. And so, Emily agreed.
The day they filmed the wedding scene would be the day where Emily will breathe her final breath. Dressed in a stunning white gown that was very reminiscent of the one belonging to her mother, she was both nervous yet excited for what was to come. To the eyes of the director and film crew, this was nothing more than a scene that will be immortalized forever, but to Emily this will be the day which she would look back on and fondly remember whenever she looks into the eyes of her true love. The wedding tune began to play, and finally it was time for her to walk down the path. And as she did, all the woman’s gaze was focused solely on her love’s until she was finally standing beside him under an oak tree. Barkis then recited the vows of his character while Emily did the same, meaning every single word that came out of her mouth. But before they could slip on their rings (their actual rings in which they had bought once they decided to elope), the consumption from their wedding common cup had to be done. Barkis consumed his, while Emily consumed her’s. The taste had been bitter within her mouth and hard to swallow, causing her to nearly choke and yet she persisted— acting as if nothing was amidst. And then it happened.
Just as she had been leaning real close to Barkis and finished slipping his ring onto his ring finger, Emily felt a sudden stab to her chest, and before she could even react, the staged attack that was meant to happen later occurred sooner and what meant to have been a failed attempt in swinging a sword at her looked to be a real attack with the way her once purely white dress began to stain a deep red. Emily had then staggered until she fell back against the oak tree with her hands held against her sides and throat burning even more now. Barkis ran to her side, and once she stared back up at him with wide and fearful eyes as she slowly bled out. That’s when she noticed the cold and heartless look, he gave her in return. What used to be eyes filled with so much love and warmth whenever he looked at her was nonexistent, and when he gave her a smirk that only she saw, and that was when Emily realized. She had been tricked.
Her heart stopped beating, and Emily collapsed and died under the oak tree of the forest that day, startling and shocking those around them as they could not believe what had happened before their eyes. And somehow, Barkis was able to play off her death as a tragic accident, claiming that the sword must have intentionally struck her and hit a vital organ resulting in such a rapid death. Though in disbelief of what had happened, everyone on set that day then vowed to close the project and discard any tapings of her death, refusing to let the public see what had occurred. And once news of Emily’s death had been let out, it shook everyone to their core as the beloved actress with a promising and fulfilling life was no more. They all mourn for her lost, and though her parents were not accepting of her relationship with Barkis, once they found out that their marriage had been real and the two were able to wed just before she had her final breath, that gave her husband the rights and access to her fortune and status. But even without it, no one denied the man who just lost the love of his life so tragically.
Though technically she had married Barkis, he had not married her in return as no ring had actually slipped through Emily’s finger before she died. Yet due to their positioning, the discarding of the tapes, and it being mainly Barkis’s words (along with the receipts for their real wedding rings) it was believed to be true. Only Emily and Barkis knew it was not.
Just before Emily had her final breath, she made a vow to herself once realizing her ex-fiancé’s betrayal—she vowed to remain under the tree until her true love came to ask for her hand in marriage, thus setting her free.
Whenever one passes by the oak tree, they say a branch that looks to be like a hand with its ring finger sticking out can be seen.
Some also say they can feel the presences of the former actress, as if she’s still there— waiting for her actual true love to appear.
Though she didn’t pursue music, Emily still enjoyed playing the piano and wanted nothing more than those moments where she played a tune with her love right by her side.
Gets easily jealous but is never one to be confrontational about it. She merely likes talking out her feelings instead or wallowing in self-pity until she no longer feels that way.
Emily was always fascinated by butterflies, especially the blue ones. Has even stated before that if she died and were to ever be reincarnated, she’ll like to be a blue butterfly in her next life.
Had an old Victorian charm to her despite being born in the early 90s. It might be due to her parents influence yet many people seemed to find that appealing about her.
She recently turned thirty years old by the time of her death.
At the current year of 2023, it would nearly be 91 years since the day of her passing.

I saw the first fable take you made and I loved it. Will there be any more like that if so? Would you take any idea requests?
Nah, sadly I don’t take requests for my lineless comics. They’re kinda special that way-based off songs I grew up listening to, personal dreams, just me trying develop and display my characters I love, tributes to stories I read as a child. A lot of me goes in to it that way. But there will be more stories like that-fun facts. The First Lineless comic- ‘Lord Puppyskins’, was based off a nightmare I had and  ‘Merrimack’ was a reject Poem for an english class
