So I heard mermay is a thing. Here is my just in time contribution.

Also I might or might not planning to make this into an AU with possibly a comic. ( After my mini Leo series)

Lore for the AU is below the cut. 

The story is still vague but it’s something like this: Splinter gets some illness and Draxum tells the turtles that the only thing that can heal him is a mermaid’s pearl, which is grows on their chest (specifically around the manubrium sterni) and they are religiously protective about is even thought it regrows under 3 weeks. The boys go try to ask the mermaids, but the fishy ladies get angry at them and chase them away. While on the run, Leo turns around and snatches a pearl. He gets caught tho and cursed to turn into a mermaid or well merturtle.

Then he does the only rational thing to do when you screw something up. Try to run away and never be seen by your brothers unless you fix the situation. Except, he has some seriously persistent brothers who will find him.

Good news is, now Leo can grow the pearl needed to cure Splinter himself. Bad news, who’s gonna cure Leo?

I wanted to do something for mermay, so here are my designs for some merturtles!

Leo is a Leafy seadragon,

Donnie is a Vampire squid

Mikey is a Epaulette shark

And Raph is a Scorpionfish!

Summary:

Fun fact: Since I was heavily inspired by @chaoticspeedrun Little Merturtle and Anastacia AU, my Tangled AU was originally going to be Mikey x Reader. Y/N would have been Flynn Ryder, with Mikey as Rapunzel. The disaster twins would have been the Stabbington brothers, Raph would be Maximus, and I was still debating whether Big Mama or Draxum should play Mother Gothel.

I had this idea where Y/N and all the turtles get stuck in the cave and are forced to work together. This would somehow lead not only to romantic moments but brotherly bonding around the campfire at night.

When I started considering this plot point, I wondered if focusing on found family would be easier for my AU than juggling that and the romance. When I started seriously considering this, some questions I couldn't answer with the romantic approach were answered with the brotherly storyline like who was Mother Gothel and their motivations.

That's how Tangled Shells came to be. I have no good reason to share this other than I can.

Hey I really like your stuff and it kinda inspired me to make my own version of mer turtles and creating a whole backstory for them. Would it be alright with you if I were to post them in a blog of my own? (I will of course credit you as my inspiration.) These are the designs I created for them today, if you think that they are too similar I can change them up a bit.

[OP: Heyy, so sorry abt being super late to respond to this btw. I'm very flattered I inspired someone to make their own mer versions of the turtles, and i rlly hope it's not mean to ask you to change it a lil bit. Mer aus are very common, but I do feel like the way you drew your merturtles were rather similar to mine and I do encourage you to not go specifically off of my designs! Aka, I'm not opposed to the idea, but I'd prefer if you changed a few things, if it's possible ^^]
