Or is it better to just say nothing, leave it there, and just decline the offer if one is made? What would be your recommendation on that? And what about when signing with a larger publisher via an agent - do agents usually try to remove these options or keep them? I'm guessing try to remove it if it's with a small press/publisher you're not sure you want to keep publishing with but agent tries to keep it if with Big 5 press as could lead to second deal - but maybe I'm wrong!

When agents are negotiating contracts, it depends on the situation.

In the case of a debut author and a great publisher, I'd be OK with an option, but I would want it to be limited to next [same type of] book. In other words, if they are publishing the author's debut MG fantasy, they can have first dibs on the author's next MG fantasy, because I'd like for them to keep working with and promoting for many years to come. That's kinda how you build a career! But I wouldn't like them to necessarily also have dibs on a picture book or some other kind of book my client might write.

In the case of a prolific author who has multiple regular publishers, we'd either want to remove the option entirely, or else limit the option to "next [same type of] book in the same series / with the same characters" -- The reason being, while obviously I *want* them to publish a whole series of picture books featuring Caprice the Capybara, I don't necessarily want them to have a claim on all non-Caprice picture books, or other kinds of books that aren't picture books. (Obviously I'd show them anything that seemed appropriate, but I wouldn't want to be OBLIGATED to ONLY go to them if they have other publishers too!)

If it is a thing where we know it is a one-off and we would prefer they not have dibs on any future work, we'd ask to remove the option, or, if they really wanted it in there, OK, but it's very limited (as above, next book in the same series kind of thing) -- because if the author isn't writing one anyway, then so what? They will just never turn in another one, problem solved.

If it's a thing where we literally CANNOT give them dibs, because somebody else already has dibs, or because it's something like an illustration deal or whatnot, then we ask to remove it, and they will likely be fine with that.

I would suggest that if you are negotiating your own contract, you do like an agent, and either ask them to remove it, or limit it to next [same type of] book in the series or with the same characters. AND, make sure the option starts after the book under contract is ACCEPTED -- not after publication. AND, make sure that you only have to turn in a sample or proposal, not a whole book (in the case of a novel). AND, make sure that they have a limited amount of time (no more than 60 days, preferably 30) to consider it.

Her favorite food is Bananas and any other kind of banana dish, especially banana pudding with Nilla Wafer (since it was one of the very first foods she had in her human form with her adoptive human family)!

And she cannot have anything that contains salt, since her human form is allergic to salt because salt would kill her in her snail form!

Since they have a very calm, austere, and deadpan attitude most of the time and her time being trained to be a soldier, she actually doesn't have much of the ability to be angered even when it seems she should be

The only times she does get angered are when her family and/or friends are put in danger or when she sees any kind of bullying (esp to her friends and family, even strangers)!

24. Do they have any creative hobbies? (art, writing, music, etc)

She loves any sort of creative activity that you can do in Girl Scouts (such as crocheting, paper crafting, painting, making friendship bracelets, etc), scrapbooking, journaling, and photography!

Gosh, since they love all animals of shapes and sizes, it would actually be way too difficult for her to ever pick a true favorite!

But some of them are capybaras, mustelids (like weasels, ferrets, otters, and badgers), beavers, raccoons, horses, bees, grizzly bears, sugar gliders, squirrels, opossums, tanukis, dogs, parrots and parakeets!

And many many many more!!

16. Do they have any pets? What do they call their pets?

Well, besides her animal companions/mascots, her family's zoo's animals all count to her as her pets as well!

Plus at home, she also has 3 dogs, 3 parrots, a ferret, a chinchilla, and a capybara named Mandarin!

Her parents and her siblings (both her younger brother and sister) have their own respective pets as well that I sadly won't get into here, but maybe next time if you ask

28. How do they show that they care about someone? How do they express that they don't like someone?

Since May/PPP is a very outwardly affectionate person in general, she LOVES to show her love and appreciation for the people and animals she's close to in any way she can, which includes physical affection (like hugs, high fives, and pats on the shoulder), words of affirmation, gift giving (especially on birthdays and holidays, even ones she doesn't celebrate), gestures of kindness and charity, and overall just being as helpful as she can be!

If she doesn't like someone, which is rare, she will be very quiet around the person and keeps to herself the entire time she's in their presence. She also becomes uncharacteristically stand-offish and stoic towards them

Especially if she feels the person could possibly be a dangerous/really bad person!
