Minecraft Tutorial: Functional Flatscreen TV Using Command Blocks
(Meaning that you can turn it "on" and "off" using buttons to place and remove a painting. This will not make an animated TV.)
You will need:
8 Black Concrete (can be replaced with another black block, if you prefer)
2 or 4 Blocks to make the table/panel below your TV (in this tutorial, I use 2 Looms and 2 Chiseled Nether Bricks)
2 Command Blocks
2 Buttons
Step 1: Build your TV
Make a 4 x 2 rectangle out of the black concrete, then build whatever table/panel you would like below it. This can be be flush with the wall or freestanding. The table can be any block you like, as long as there's room for 2 buttons to be placed on the front of it.
Step 2: Find the coordinates of the screen
Temporarily place one of your buttons on the block of concrete that on the bottom row and one block in from the left. Press f3 to open the debug menu, find the "Targeted Block" line, and look directly at the button. Copy down the three coordinates listed (WITHOUT the commas between them). You'll need these later. Remove the button.
Step 3: Install your command blocks
Place the 2 buttons on 2 of the blocks in your TV's base. Then, break the blocks immediately below (or behind, if it works better for your build) each of the blocks with the buttons. Place the two command blocks in these spaces.
Step 4: Command for placing the painting
Paste this command into the first command block:
summon minecraft:painting x y z {Facing:[],Motive:fighters,Invulnerable:1}
Replace "x y z" with the coordinates you copied down earlier. Remove the [ ] in "Facing:[]" and replace it with the number indicating which direction the colored part of the painting should be facing: 2 is north, 3 is south, 4 is west, 5 is east. In my case, it's 2.
After pasting and specifying the values, your command block should look something like this:
The "Motive:" field in the command specifies what painting will be placed (This can be changed to anything on the Minecraft Wiki's list of Painting Namespaced IDs if you want to make a different size TV). The "Invulnerable:" field just makes it so the painting cannot be broken by players in survival.
Step 5: Command for removing the painting
Paste this command into the second command block:
kill @e[type=minecraft:painting,sort=nearest,limit=1]
You don't have to edit this command. Here's how the command block should look:
Step 6: Testing that it works
Fill in the floor back in, hiding the command blocks. Finally, press the buttons to check that they successfully place and remove the painting. Enjoy your TV!
