My favorite speleothem by far are rimstone dams, and by extension, calcite rafts. Rimstone dams are awesome, and occur aboveground too! They can grow quite large, with the biggest I've seen being 10ft high, though that particular one was dried up. I should also mention, calcite rafts can settle on any suitable body of water in a cave, but when they're on rimstone dams it feels extra special to me and so I associate the two with eachother. The basic chemistry behind calcite rafts is that as surface water evaporates it will precipitate calcite on the surface because the remaining water has supersaturated CaCO3 concentrations and can't "fit" any more CaCO3 in it, leading it to precipitate. Depending on other factors super saturation does not need to be present but that's a whole other post. Anyway, they're super cool! And also super fragile!! There's a great research article done by the folks at Timpanagos National Monument where they observe the accelerated growth of calcite rafts (and other speleothems) during COVID. Highly recommend!

Still thinking about hcs while cleaning out my notes, and like, this one sorta goes as both a hc and a random design choice I've kept, (tho I haven't posted or saved any of the related doodles :/) but in considering how much Fulcrum's k-class reformatting changed him, I really like the idea of it throwing off his original proportions some
Like, k-classers generally all appear fairly similar build-wise.

There's a blueprint that's being followed there, and those that are being reformatted are going to have to fit it.
(Unless there's multiple blueprints, different size classes of k-cons, and Fulcrum was just caught somewhere in the middle zone size and payload-wise?)
So some mechs are going to have to be broken down to fit into this new shell, either by getting stretched out or pulled inwards to be ultimately crammed into shape.
Cybertronians of course come in all shapes and sizes, and they don't always align with humanoid-esque proportions, obviously, but I like to think the k-class reformatting offered an awkward and impractical in-between of all types.
Of course Fulcrum fit into that general humanoid-shaped category before the refit, regardless of whatever his alt-mode kibble or lack thereof would have added. But he's just the standard non-combat levels of lightly armored, average height, though a little lanky already, but generally sort of boringly, humanoidly, practically proportioned.
Then comes the refit.
To make more space for the bulk of his built-to-shatter shell, arms and legs are broken, hastily extended, and loosely jammed back in place, leaving them slightly too long, hinged a little too low and off balance, and uncomfortably loose in their sockets.
Everything but the barest essentials of his core and inner-framework are gutted to make space for the payload. Leaving his balance entirely off-kilter, with long hollowed out limbs built solely to surround the heavy core with an armored casing, that aren't at all altered with any natural movement or livability in mind.
Basically this fine specimen-

-just, a lot more refined and detailed.
Training would've essentially amounted past propaganda and how best to die, to mainly just learning how to sit, stand, and walk just enough to get to the jumping point with this new, disproportioned, and too awkwardly long, (or too short depending on the mech), k-class frame.
And like, this all doesn't stray too far from what we see of his initial design on Clemency. Him just sorta being long and awkward and scuffed to hell. But I like to think that awkward build doesn't change much after Spinister, assumedly, rebuilt his frame after Clemency.
The k-class alterations are bone deep, so to speak. To change them back at this point would require an even more strenuous and invasive refit than the first one, and safe to say Fulcrum obviously wouldn't be too terribly keen on that, even if they could afford it.
So all Spinister can really do reframing-wise, is just kinda sculpt and refine it all around his reformatted structure to turn it into less of a cage-like shell and more of an actual body.
Like bulking up plating in more natural places for balance, along with adding more breathable seams and flexible angles for better movement, while of course making sure to tighten those loose joints as best he can. Though he still has to account for the longer limbs and now empty core, so it's definitely not the same weight and balance of Fulcrum's original build. But, it is far more livable than what Styx had left him with.
I don't have much else to say on it, besides how him getting used to his frame being taller and longer is definitely an interesting nugget to roll around mentally outside of design inspo, and its one of my fav hcs to see mentioned in art, fics, or posts. (along with him having chronic pain bcs of the weird shitty joints)
Little things like him taking a few months to figure out how sit comfortably with new longer legs- folding them against himself awkwardly, or streching out in odd positions -much to the other Scav's amusement, or learning to keep himself from catching his arms and bulky shoulder plating constantly on things, which is also funny to everyone, until he knocks something over while they're trying to hide, then it's less funny.
Idk, there's tons of angst potential surrounding his reformat of course, but in canon he's all mostly vibes, so idk, it's funny to think of how he'd try his best to take his weird, gangly frame in stride outside of moments of despair. He's doing his best to make the nigh praying mantis levels of ~long~ and ~scrawny~ work ok
#im avoiding sleep rn a bit. so yeah. heres another post for today lol#this sorta went in hand with the 4th hc/fic-bit from the other post. as the notes were written not that long apart#but its its own thing. being a note that mainly served as possible inspo for art stuff#idk. i just like imagining him as being a little wonky. all long and spindly beneath the bulk of the armor casing#which isnt an uncommon hc at all from what ive gathered. i just wanted to ramble about it some anyways#on the topic of character design notes tho. theres a few other things i collected and jotted down#like krok for example. i like the whole gator claw thing. and the helm nubs being flashlights of sorts#i didnt realize it until i rendered that one meme deal of him. but i like making the darker parts of his armor iridescent#so its sorta like a brighter paint color is peeking out from underneath or smth. or maybe hes just actually a little iridescent idk lol#the helm lamps deal tho is a new one. bcs i didnt really care much for it until i considered how much more confusing it made his kibble#is he a croc? a shark? a plane? a boat? a submarine? hell what if hes a ufo?? itd confuse people. and i think thats neato#(also itd be reminiscent of the headlamps worn by miners or divers. which is a little extra neato imo)#god. i really could go on about all the random details and alterations ive been meaning to mess around with with their canon designs#but i know im gonna be miserable and car sick if i dont sleep some. augh >:/#just a week or two and then ill have all my stuff settled. and things will sorta be normal again. hopefully lol#fulcrum

Bugtober 2024- Day 15: AU
~And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit /… / hath his name Apollyon.~
I had several ideas for today, but ultimately I decided to draw Apollyon as its namesake, as well as my favourite character in BoI!
#bug fables#bug fables oc#oc: apollyon#bugtober#alt text in image#Honestly I never fully intended for Apollyon to remain their name but it kinda just stuck.#…which I’m glad that it did! I can’t imagine Polly being named anything else.#Fun fact about Pan as well! His name originally came from plans of having him be a miner of sorts and was a pun on gold panning.#I eventually reworked them into a chef and kept the name because it fit very well into the pun names for the other BF cooks.#my art

I think about all the FromSoftware bosses and NPCs that had roles that were drastically altered during development or character elements and lore that were swapped or cut out entirely, and it makes me wonder which aspects of Messmer's character got altered/swapped/cut during development that we haven't seen yet.
#elden ring#soulsborne#messmer#messmer the impaler#shadow of the erdtree#i'm sure someone will unearth this eventually since the data miners are always hard at work#basically sort of like how Pontiff Sulyvahn was originally supposed to be the final boss of DS3#and i think someone (Zullie? maybe?) did a video where they said Mohg was originally supposed to be just a generic dungeon boss

unions and guilds aren’t just about collective bargaining power, they’re about employee health and wellbeing and community and looking after each other and ensuring everyone is looked after well. that often exists totally seperate to the workplace! the reason unions spend all their time (and funds!) collective bargaining and not improving life for their members is a result of having cheapass capitalist bosses who necessitate this, not because that’s their core function.
#they used to like build miners halls and set up death payment schemes and sickness programmes for long term illnesses and social benefits#and all sorts! but none of that has happened since the 80s coz neoliberalism#unions#socialism#workers rights#late stage capitalism#anti capitalism

ive been thinking about computer-aligned eldritch benry concepts for not a game mode. hes sliming it up. hes 'scream'ing it. hes that black goop supercomputer from lucy. and most importantly. He IS Back In Town
#phlyaros' nonsense#just sort of talking bc i havent been able to elaborate on any of this in my head yet#nothing im saying is novel obv#i'm just. yknow. trying to think about it. he is not the machine but the ghost living in it#in canon he's like. so like to my understanding it's cursed video games that have been created with some kind of artifact (the obelisk(?))#so. benry is like. cursed. in nature to me lol#so not a game you would have to make him. have some kind of origin like that.#any variant of 'gordon essentially summoned/invited benry in' sounds fun to me#he played the cursed video game dude he is sooooo fucked. in the head#gordon IS those guys in creepypastas#anyways.#if gordon is a scientist for reals what does he do to invite benry in..#they used to play in the mud....#much to consider.#can you imagine watching your computer get up and eat an animal for the minerals in its body#benry would be very good at monitoring security if he was able to talk to computers. shrugs#he's doing things like sending gordon weird subconscious phone calls on accident. hes fucking up the lights when hes emotional.#he is not something that is by nature a computer but instead able to interface with them on some level#he doesn't need a mouse yknow#you call him and he crawls through the wifi to come over#he's using it as tools in ways a human cannot#i don't think benry is fully contained within a human body. i think exploring this is like stretching his fingers out

If you wanna really experience that Welsh pride I can only ever truly recommend just listening to Yma o Hyd on repeat
i do like that song my nana was real fond of it :) but also as a welsh-american (if i count as that at this point) it’s a bit. well we can’t exactly say despite everything we’re still here on account of the fact that we are not still there
#my glamorgan coal miner family came to the us for a better life and then became pennsylvania coal miners. what can you do#i think the welsh would get mad if i identified as welsh too loud. i’m from all sorts#it’s just my nana was SO proud to be welsh that that’s the one she passed down. if that makes sense

i do think cyberwizard drugs is a funny trait for victor. ostensibly this is for his magic and to maintain his connection to his cybernetics but its kind of like a guy who gets a medical card for back pain and then makes weed his primary personality trait.
#his concoctions.#🌟#the idea is essentially that all living things in big league are either considered magical or mundane#and while all living creatures naturally produce#and channel magical energy/mana; mundane beings dont have enough to meaningfully express it in any major way#while magical creatures naturally excrete enough of it to have effects ie: kaseys powers#this is a spectrum its not like a hard binary but humans are the most mundane of the sapient creatures#and as such for a human to do magic requires external mana sources and often something to channel it through ie a staff#because it would otherwise be too much for the body to handle and either your effect wouldnt work or in some cases it would backfire#victor is human (mostly) and uses his tech to augment his natural abilities (which are impressive for a human). but a lot of what he dabbles#in these days is pretty extreme and outside the realm of typical magic tools#ie: dimension splitting; summoning and dealing with demons; time travel; the light necromancy required to keep his body functioning#and all his personal cybernetics are magitech and built in such a way that they channel more mana without an external focus (so no wand)#so the idea is that hes made himself some sort of substance of high-mana shit (minerals and some animal products mostly) that helps him#handle the strain of the kind of work hes doing. with the upside-downside of occassionally tripping balls.

That was so sweettttt AWWWWWWWW i smiled so hard reading that
Love that you mix both the show and comic versions, both having its ups and downs and you combined it very well!
ASDFGHJKL i just needdd to get that out of my system because i’m a huge fan of boboiboy’s comic with the main reason being they - kokotaim - actually looked their age asdfghjkl
thank youuu!! i’m glad u think sooo!! ^^
#another reason why i sort of disliked how episode 3 windara came out was because of the characters#as in tok liam and papileon’s character depth sort of wasn’t fully grasped and depicted in the animation?#in the webtoon papileon was smart by ‘tricking’ bbb and fang into helping her save the adults#of course bbb and fang would’ve helped regardless if papileon tricked them or not#but her striking that deal shows that she’s smart#and that she’s always thinking abt how she could save the adults and all#tok liam was excluded from being picked to work as miners - which felt weird#because if he wasn’t chosen because of old age#was he like the only elderly in kampung kepaku?#oh well but hey at least we get windara animated ig#boboiboy#boboiboy ff#boboiboy windara arc#yuutsunaoi writes
