i love the contrast that luxu's function as the MoM's "warp point" creates with sora's use of kh's wacky heart-based time travel magic. the MoM keeps luxu deep in his orbit, fills his head with his memory and ideals, sets him on an unavoidable path all in the MoM's name. luxu needs to have the MoM's indelible mark on his heart and mind, to carry him with him forever, to bring him forward into any new world he finds for himself. we see how many people sora connects with out of a genuine, spontaneous sense of love and openness, he wants to help people, to let them into his heart as much as he becomes a part of theirs. luxu and the MoM's relationship may be friendly, may be close, but fundamentally it is planned out, deliberate, transactional. luxu isn't loved- he's needed- he's a tool. i love the mobile games this is sick. something something riku something something terranort something something org13-

I love the song The Moon Will Sing for so many KH characters in the way that it’s become a domino effect specifically with Luxu to Xemnas to Roxas

I could have been anyone, anyone else before you made the choice for me

Luxu’s path was chosen for him and he was never given an option for his life only the goal given to him by MoM

Xemnas as apprentice Xehanort had his path chosen for him by old Xehanort and Braig, old Xehanort in the way that Xemnas is part of him and Xehanort because Xemnas for this specific purpose of creating Kingdom Hearts and Braig just had to keep Xemnas on track as an apprentice

Roxas the second he was created was already told who he was and his purpose by Xemnas before Roxas could experience anything and without memories of his own he had little options but to do what he’s told

Luxu through becoming numb to his constant possession of people and loosing the will to question MoM since at this point it will have all been for nothing if he stops

Xemnas only exists because of Xehanort and Terra

Roxas wouldn’t be who he is without Sora

I imagine Luxu being so angry with MoM for all of his lies and secrets and Luxu just wants to understand what all of this pain was for

This is like Roxas’ rage when you have to fight him in Sora’s heart in KH2 and Roxas trying to come to terms with why it has to be Sora to stop Xemnas even though he wants to be the one to do it

It's done! Or at least I'm done and feel finished with it anyway. I really liked the scene this is referenced from from a color/perspective angle so why not a screenshot repaint for practice?

Materials: oil paint on 6x8 canvas panel, it's slightly curved/warped for some reason? which may be why light reflections on it are a little odd sometimes. But it's all fine and not a huge deal. This took longer than I thought only because I went to go visit a friend (in February) and only got back around to finalizing earlier this month (March), hahaha. I'm still somewhat skeptical of the two different colors for the background mountains/trees but it is what it is, fun experiment either way. My favorite parts to do were definitely the sky and the flowers though. Realizing that this man is Just A Shape also helped me feel better about him there LMAO

Not really a fan of how the light is in my apartment generally, I still think there's either unnecessary/unintended light reflections going on but its gotta just be the canvas panel texture tbh, it does that both in photos AND in person at some angles. And I didn't want to use phone editor filters either, so, c'est business....it would look smoother with a varnish coating to fill those texture gaps in so might report back on that later (if I remember to!)

Ultimately this was pretty fun practice, like with many things I need to just get going and Do More Shit bcs I like the process and its cool to share the results too.
