NASA's secret mission: Bastet II
Tumblr media
In 1976, NASA launched a secret mission called Bastet II, an ambitious and controversial project to send cats into space. The aim of the mission was to study the effects of weightlessness on felines and to evaluate the possibility of using them as companions for astronauts on extended space missions.
Tumblr media
Despite the utmost secrecy, some information about the mission was leaked thanks to an insider who revealed the existence of photos and the mission logo. The pictures showed the cats inside a space capsule specially designed to house them, while the logo depicted a stylised cat with an astronaut's helmet and the inscription 'Bastet II'.
The reasons why NASA chose to keep the Bastet II mission secret are still not entirely clear. However, it is speculated that the space agency wanted to avoid controversy surrounding the use of animals in space experiments, especially after the criticism it received for sending dogs and monkeys into space in the 1960s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite the passage of years, the outcomes of the Bastet II mission remain shrouded in mystery. No official report has ever been published and the fate of the cats involved in the mission is unknown. Some claim that the felines managed to survive and were recovered at the end of the mission, while others believe that the mission failed and the cats died in space.
Tumblr media
The story of the Bastet II mission remains a fascinating and disturbing enigma, a dark chapter in the history of space conquest that raises as yet unresolved ethical and scientific questions.
Tumblr media
The name of the mission was very probably inspired by the goddess of ancient Egyptian religion, venerated since the Second Dynasty (2890 BC) whose name is rendered as B'sst , Baast , Ubaste and B'aset precisely. Bastet was worshiped in Bubastis in Lower Egypt, originally as a lioness goddess, a role shared by other deities such as Sekhmet. Eventually Bastet and Sekhmet were characterized as two aspects of the same goddess, with Sekhmet representing the powerful warrior and protector aspect, and Bastet, who increasingly was depicted as a cat, representing a gentler aspect. The fact that there is a number 2 in Roman numerals suggests that this was the second mission of this type. The movement of the mission which in Latin avoids ""The hasty cat makes blind kittens" makes us think of an attitude of NASA that wanted to take the necessary time to do things right. But what exactly it refers to remains a mystery

A satirical documentary (Like "The Compleat Al," a satirical documentary about Weird Al Yankovic)is called a mockumentary.
What is a satirical biopic (such as "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story") called?
Personally, I'm leaning towards biofic.

The Last Exorcism (Последнее изгнание Дьявола)
Екзорсист вирішив показати реальності "бізнесу", але тут зіткнувся з справді дивним випадком.
Одна з небагатьох вподобаних мені псевдодокументалок.
Фільм професійно та грамотно зроблено. І головне – він справді лякає.

What We Do In The Shadows
Tumblr media
What We Do In The Shadows - Jemaine Clement & Taika Waititi
This is part of my unedited thoughts series 9/10 What could be more normal than a documentary about a coven of vampires? When the film opens with archaic titles for: "New Zealand Documentary Board", you know you are in for something unique. The complete deadpan way in which the film is presented is brilliant. A documentary crew is following a group of vampire housemates in the lead-up to this year's Unholy masquerade. Viago (Waititi) is the narrator. Our in-shot guide into their world. He isn't the story's hero as this character has no arc.
Tumblr media
The hero of the story is Nick. A guy who is going to be their dinner but he escapes and is turned by the ancient vampire Peter. He then stuffs everything up by telling everyone that he is a vampire.
Tumblr media
This leads to a vampire hunter coming after them and the death of Peter. Eventually, Nick accepts what he has become. Bringing his human friend Stu to the masquerade at the end saves the day. There are a lot of sub-plots and backstories to cover as well. It does feel like a reality TV show in the way these stories are told. We get one-on-ones with all the characters explaining their origins. The rest of the show is vignettes of life as a vampire. There is some great stuff here. The two young girl vampires that kill pedophiles - great stuff.
Tumblr media
The introduction to technology is fantastic as well. They also make a lot of references to other vampire myths. Vladislav (Clement) is Vlad the Impaler himself. There are also visual references to other vampire films which are great little easter eggs.
Tumblr media
Overall it is a fantastic piece of cinema that gives you exactly what you want, just in ways that you didn't expect. All the performances are good. Underplayed but fantastic. Highly recommended!!! Read the full article

100% Accurate 😂
I myself finally actually got around to watching the Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi Series (on YT for those interested) & as far as I’m concerned, it was a stroke of genius for Koji Shiraishi to make the leader of his fictional ghost hunting team a straight up deranged prick rather than another rote faux-spiritualist sage like the Warrens from The Conjuring franchise. Kudo is essentially Zak Bagans from Ghost Adventures minus the fake tough guy persona thus actually being entertaining to watch.
PSYCHIC MEDIUM: it's weird that you don't seem to have a soul.
KUDO JIN: idk I guess. look, I've had some experiences. whatever. moving on.

It kind of just occurred to me how much the queer community is winning this summer. We had Nimona. We had Barbie (ace Barbie, Allan, just queer vibes all around). We had Good Omens season 2. We had Heartstopper season 2. We're getting High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 4 and Red White and Royal Blue two days apart from each other. We even have The Witcher finally delivering with Jaskier (or at least it did in the first part, haven't watched part 2 yet).
I don't know where I was going with this. I'm just happy about it.
