What if the morphing tech didn't work on one if the original human animorphs?

Hmmm.  I think the outcome would depend on the human Animorph in question.

Cassie would slip pretty easily into a support role if she was a non-morpher who was nevertheless in the know.  I could see her supporting her friends in all kinds of ways (helping them get DNA) and being a lot better off for it.  There’s also a big advantage to be had if she’s not a morpher but the team still meets at her house, because then any potential leak around their meeting place wouldn’t necessarily lead back to the others.  If Cassie was a non-morpher, the team would function in a similar way and a lot of Cassie’s role within the series (especially around Aftran) would probably be similar.

Jake would try to stop anyone else from being an Animorph if he himself couldn’t, and he might even succeed with everyone but Tobias.  (I know Tobias actually likes Jake in the first book, but Tobias knows no gods, no kings, no masters, and especially no war-princes.)  In that scenario we’d see a situation like that one AniTV episode where Tobias tries to fight the entire war alone, and where Jake gets lured into joining the Sharing by Tom and then one by one recruits all of the others.  That episode ended with Tobias getting controller-ified following an attempt to save Rachel, but maybe if Ax managed to rescue himself then he and Tobias could form a two-person team instead.

Marco would be outwardly ecstatic, and would brag about not having to turn into a fly at every opportunity.  But secretly he’d worry, and deep down he’d be insecure about not being able to help more.  I could see him being the Guy in the Chair for everyone else on the team, doing online legwork with WAA accounts and hacking yeerk coms.  He’d complain constantly, of course, and would correct anyone who tried to describe him as an Animorph, but he’d also be an integral part of the team.

Tobias would do something horribly self-sacrificial to try and help the war effort.  I’m not 100% convinced there would be a war effort if Tobias couldn’t morph, given how much he drags the other four kicking and screaming into the plot.  But assuming he still managed to form the team, that Tobias tendency to want to take all the risk onto himself would probably come out.  I could see him becoming a voluntary controller to spy on the Sharing and/or work with the Yeerk Peace Movement.  I could see him going to live in the hork-bajir valley full-time as a human (assuming the Ellimist finds a different way to make that happen) to help Toby.  I could see him dying in battle as a human, or letting himself die in battle, much as I don’t want to.

Rachel would put on a mask, pick up a baseball bat, and go start kneecapping controllers.  As MM4 shows, girl does not need morphing to be a badass.

Playing around with a human-to-Andalite morphing sequence, then got the idea it could be a possible redraw of book 8's cover! I'm not sure which way I'm gonna run it, I kind of like both the original sequence (top) and the cover framing (bottom).

Obviously, poofy jackets aren't gonna work like morphing outfits, so you gotta tie it around your waist if you don't want to lose it. Or you could keep it on I guess, but I figured this was more interesting!

Andalite Chronicles thoughts (pt. 3):

Elfangor might think that his mistake is disobeying Alloran, but IMHO his real mistake is underestimating "primitive aliens". He confidently tells Loren that there's no way Chapman can possibly fly the Jahar — and next thing he knows, Chapman is landing the Jahar on the taxxon world. He assumes that the taxxons are mindless when not yeerk-controlled — and the taxxon rebellion catches him flat-footed. He doesn't ask Loren for help, assuming she's too primitive to help — and then she explains the Time Matrix better than he can.

Do we ever see a human character morph a taxxon? I don't think so. New theory: andalites are uniquely bad at controlling taxxon morph, because they're so unused to tasting things and the idea of food being a source of pleasure in its own right. Tobias is out of practice with taste, but we know that Tobias does unusually well at controlling taxxon morph compared to Ax, and compared to the three andalites here. So maybe it wouldn't be so bad if Rachel or someone had morphed a taxxon after all.

Interesting that Esplin 9466 gets promoted partially because he recognizes an andalite in morph when no one else can. Setup for him having that bias for the entire rest of the war, methinks.

Related thought: I'd love to see a world where Arbron gets ahold of the Time Matrix. He's probably try to use it to change the taxxons' evolution so that their metabolism isn't such a mess, which could go really badly or really well depending on if he's really as good at xenobiology as Elfangor says he is.

Up a little late this morning, practicing differentiating Human and Andalite faces with my Animorphs OC Benjamin by drawing him morphing into an Andalite! There's a sort of neat visual effect going on, it looks like he got taller even though when I use straight lines going horizontally, he really didn't. I think it's the eyestalks that are causing it.

I was thinking about how morphing could be used after the war and it would be amazing to see how it would affect the fashion industry.

Like estreen runway models incorporating Frolis manoeuvres into their walks or they’re partially morphing feathers/scales/changing colours to compliment the design.

New trends with more versatile spandex type clothing being made so morphers have more options to choose from.

Or maybe even a runway showcasing new morphing attire with models walking out as animals and de-morphing to reveal the outfit.
