Got my driver’s license, so yall getting a Modern ‘Good’ Morzan AU, and who drives like what.
Eragon: blasts music like there’s no tomorrow. Might be deaf at this point, but the ADHD must be silenced with rock songs.
Murtaugh: terrified of turning left, but other than that he’s a decent driver. He can’t remember the last time he’s ever did an oil change on the car.
Brom: “don’t turn on your turn signal, that’s how people know where you’re going.”™️
Puts everyone in music timeout if he misses a turn
Arya: only one who can ACTUALLY drive. But she does go fast.
Morzan: hits a curb and goes ‘oopsie’. If he crashes and dies, just know he went out like a man (he’s belting Madonna)
Oromis: had his license taken away, but will still judge your driving even if he’s wrong.
Nasuada: passenger princess. In fact, she never even got her permit. But she doesn’t need one as everyone just drives her where they wanna go, because she’s the one that orders for you at a restaurant, and knows how to do an oil change.
Roran: can’t drive a small car, but can drive a tractor like a race car, and has a pickup truck that’s so busted up you don’t even know how it’s still running. It’s living off blood, sweat, tears, and the power of god.

I just wanted to say. I found a hc that is HEARTBREAKING but I kinda love it a lot?? it makes me sick
I love the idea of Selene being resentful of Eragon, and developing a deep love for Murtagh after he is born, with him being the "real" kid from her husband, while Eragon is a proof of her "mistake"
I can't tell how cannon complacent it is, bc I haven't read the books in a while, but I wanted to know your opinion about it!! (Also I would love to hear your opinion or hc about any of their relationships)
Ooooh, that's interesting. I don't know of Selena would necessarily resent Eragon for being a "mistake," since I think by that point she was miserable with Morzan and actually loved Brom. So imo, her marriage to Morzan probably felt more like the mistake than her affair with Brom. I like to think that if things had worked out better and she'd lived, she would've found Brom and gone into hiding with him to raise Eragon (or at least have stayed close by in Carvahall like Brom did in canon), then eventually tried to go back and rescue Murtagh after Morzan's death (ooohhh, now that I'm thinking about it, that would make a super cool AU). But I can see her sort of resenting Eragon's safety and opportunities compared to Murtagh's and having a lot of guilt over Murtagh's situation.
As far as headcanons about their relationships, I think by the time Brom came along, she definitely wanted out of her marriage to Morzan and saw Brom at first as a ticket out/way to establish some control over her life. But then I think, based on what the original series said about them, she did eventually fall for him and likely wished she was married to him instead. At that point, I thinks he likely regretted running off with Morzan in the first place and felt a lot of guilt over Murtagh's situation, but knew there wasn't much she could do without endangering both of her children and it probably tore her up inside. Extreme trauma/stress like that during pregnancy can really fuck you up, and while I don't think we ever really knew for sure why she was so sick before/after delivering Eragon, I think that was likely the cause and why she's no longer here. It seems clear in the Murtagh book (and a little from the original series) that Murtagh himself felt a little abandoned by her, but also idolized her just because for so long she was the only affection he got. It sounds like she wasn't around much and "distance makes the heart grow fonder," so I feel like he probably really longed for her a lot of the time when she wasn't there. It seems like he has some more understanding and sympathy for her situation in Murtagh and holds more resentment towards Eragon just because of how lucky he was compared to him, and sort of sees himself as Selena's "true" son because of how often he makes comments along the lines of "unlike Eragon, I'm not a bastard." I'd love to see a bit more in the next book about how Murtagh feels about his mother and Brom's affair and Brom himself. I think I remember in an interview, Paolini said if Brom had been able to rescue Murtagh, he would've and tried to raise him as his own even though it would've been painful.
I think Eragon really idolizes his mom and understands how difficult her situation was as well, but he didn't get to know her like Murtagh did, so he doesn't really have that "how could you leave me" resentment that Murtagh likely still has a little bit of. I'd also love to see more into how Eragon feels about Murtagh after having more time to understand his situation and sit with it a little more. He seems a little insensitive, judgey, and just doesn't even try to understand how Murtagh's life was from his POV in the original series (which always annoys me; I know he's young, so I hope that's something that improves with age for both of them) and says some very cruel things to him as a result. I'd really like to see his opinion grow and change and have them maybe meet and have a conversation about it in the next book, cus I think that's very needed for both of them.
Sorry for how long it took me to respond, but thanks for the ask! I love talking about this stuff, so my inbox is always open.

This was done RIGHT when I started the ‘good Morzan’ ideas.
This is 100% Murtaugh walking to his dad. Idk why I lied to myself saying it could have been like 10 other babies.

So smol, so precious… tiny baby

now i'm thinking about the banishing of the names and its making me genuinely crazy
just like imagine the creature that is literally bound to your soul, the one in the world that you are the closest too, someone you have spent your whole life with, sharing thoughts with sharing joy and jokes with. the creature that knows you better than anyone else, better than yourself, the creature that chose you, and stuck by you at your worst and your best.
imagine watching them lose themself completely, lose their name, their identity, their whole self, they're reduced to a wild animal. it's a fate worse than death and all you can do is watch, there's nothing in all your years of magic that can help you now.
your dragon isn't even dead, it's still alive it's standing right in front of you but it's wrong, the look in its eyes is blank, not the intelligent gaze you've come to expect, it's mannerisms have even changed, it holds itself differently too. it's all wrong.
and your struck with the realization that you'll never get your dragon back, even if you survive this they will never be the same, you will never fly above the clouds with them your consciousness melding together, you will never lay under their wings and be known truely, and when you try to call out their name you can't.
every memory you have of them is changed now too, a blank space in your mind and-you realize-your soul itself. maybe you let out an anguished scream but it's not right, you want to be able to call its name, to see even a flicker of recognition in its eyes.
there's nothing though, even as you scream and cry the creature shows no signs of empathy or understanding. it tears you apart, any semblance of sanity you still had is gone.
and like man i would go insane too
anyways i wrote this bc i read a good fic that inspired me so go read that i just reblogged it

Eragon: "So, what did Morzan look like?"
Jeod: "Hot."
Eragon: "What."
Jeod: "I mean evil. Very evil. Had a very weird laugh too."

How would the IC characters react to being forced to put on a face mask and get their nails painted?
Wrote this entire thing and then my browser froze and deleted it lmao. sorry this took so long. Great ask!
ERAGON: Is confused, but as long as it makes you happy.
ARYA: *yowling cat noises*
OROMIS: Refuses to answer straightforwardly how he feels about this and is talking in circles.
MORZAN: Already secretly paints his nails goth black but would still stab you if you tried it.
MURTAGH: Drops his head dramatically on the table with a loud “UGHHHH” but lets you do it anyway.
NASUADA: *hesitant* “…Fine, but only if it’s red.” *points at EXTREMELY specific red-wine-maroon mail polish you’ve never seen in your life.
GARROW: Would make Birka and Brugh interchangeably step on you.
RORAN: Could not care less as long as Ismira helps with the nails and he can do it with Katrina, or at least talk to her.
ISLANZADÍ: Would absolutely not allow it unless it was an obscenely dramatic glitter polish.
ALÍN: “GLITTER!!”
SAPHIRA: Only accepts if the nail polish color compliments her scales.
THORN: Watches quietly and starry-eyed as you take the time and care to make his talons look nice. He is smiling the whole time.
FÍRNEN: Fidgets and moves like a little kid the entire time because he is excited.
GLAEDR: *earthquake noises*
GARZHVOG: Will allow it if you listen to and share the stories of his people and share some of your own.
BLÖDHGARM: Will allow nail polish, forbids the face mask because fur and damp do not mix.
ORIK: “I’ll be a BEWTIFUL FECKIN’ PRENCESS, HVEDA, DON’T KNOCK ET TILL YEH TROY ET!”
UVEK: “Good color. Very strong.” His nails: 💅

I like to think in my AU Selena and Morzan are co-parent besties rather than actual lovers for any period of time outside of them having Murtaugh.
MOSTLY for the funny idea Morzan is fully aware Selena is with Brom and that he’s spying as a gardener but finds it funnier if Brom wasn’t aware he knew. And Selena and him go over all the dumb crap Brom has done within the past week over morning coffee.

Oromis doing the same training techniques on Eragon as he did with Morzan and brom, is the equivalent of that one almond mom giving you parenting advice while their kids are actively licking a wall.
#I said what I said#inheritance cycle#christopher paolini#eragon shadeslayer#eragon#funny#eragon bromsson#this was funnier in my head#but seriously you look at him and back at Brom and Morzan and you’re like “who’s idea was that?#love his dumb hypocrisy spouting butt tho

Murtagh was so angry at Oromis for hiding and not trying to help, but Murtagh still had hope that Oromis would save him from Galbatorix.
And immediately after that, Galbatorix used Murtagh's own body and hand to kill Oromis, and, with him, he killed Murtagh's last hope of ever being free
#it was the first time Murtagh lost control over his body and his voice#and he couldn't have done anything to stop Galbatorix#Murtagh just watched how his hand kills Oromis the other Rider#the same way as Morzan killed other Riders before#btw Murtagh hasn't actually believed that Eragon could defeat Galbatorix so in that moment he lost his hope#my headcanon: Murtagh after that cried near Thorn#murtagh morzansson#murtagh#inheritance cycle

Just throwing a question in here since I know there are people here who read the Werecat AU; Anything (scenes, conversation topics, characters interacting etc.) you'd like to read? Or read more of?
I've got a few ideas but they are vague for now. Open for suggestions! (But no guarantees of course ... and yes I'll be working on a new chapter for side by side soon).
#pondering somehow having Morzan show up at Arngor to keep Murtagh from going north#problem with that is that Galbatorix won’t be far#and that would mean trouble#if Morzan alone isn't enough#also Eragon finding out about certain things about eastern werecats and giving murtagh nervous looks maybe#inheritance cycle#the world of eragon#the inheritance cycle#eragon#morzan#galbatorix#murtagh#fic stuff#murtagh morzansson#eragon shadeslayer
