MoviePass, MovieCrash (dir. Muta'Ali Muhammad).
HBO's documentary provides an exhaustive look at the spectacular rise and fall of the once-popular subscription-based movie ticketing service as told directly by the people involved. This includes the duo (Mitch Lowe and Ted Farnsworth) responsible for its wild overspending who took over the business and are currently awaiting trial for fraud. It's both an amusing and informative document of how two promising Black entrepreneurs, Stacy Spikes and Hamet Watt, tried to disrupt and grow the movie theatre industry only for a couple of dubious investors to eventually break it stunningly.

I took this photo last night after watching Lord of the Rings the extended directors cut in theatre. They had one movie at 6 Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. Thankfully I have moviepass so the whole thing was $20 for the month. Otherwise I think it's like $13 a ticket?
So last night at 1015 I sent this photo to my brother who watched the first two with me but couldn't for work purposes watch the third. Just a little brag of neener neener I saw it and you didn't. He responds with "I saw last night, crazy right?" which confused me until I took a second glance at the photo I took.

How to Blow Up a Pipeline: Incredibly well directed film - so tight. But, whenever we flashback to the past, something lags - perhaps because those parts rely most on the acting, and the acting is lackluster. Ingenious script, but the dialogue could have used another pass. I liked it.

Sarasota Film Festival 2024 - Top 10 Movies to Watch
As something of a homecoming for this critic, I will be attending the opening weekend of the Sarasota Film Festival this year. I grew up in the city and know what it means for the town and community. It also is a fantastic place to launch a young filmmaker. Friends of mine have not only participated in the festival but have also started Hollywood careers here. This festival holds a special place…
