'Andrew Scott’s career has been a slow yet steady one. Like many other actors, he started in the theater and had small roles in both movies and TV. With his talent, little by little, he earned better roles until they hired him to play Moriarty in Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock. For many, he came out of nowhere, but by then, he had been a working actor for more than a decade.

After that role, many new opportunities arose: a villain in Spectre, and especially, his performance in the second season of Fleabag. With that, some new, interesting offers came. Later this year, he’ll be Ripley in the Netflix adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s character, made popular by Matt Damon. This year, he should have gotten a nomination for an Academy Award for his incredible performance in All of Us Strangers. Today, we’re looking at his TV career and his best performances in that medium.

10. The Hollow Crown (2012-2016)

The Hollow Crown was an interesting project: using Shakespeare’s plays about the different English Kings, with every episode being about one of them. Ben Wishaw had one of his best performances ever playing King Richard II, and so did Jeremy Irons as King Henry IV.

This Role Wasn't His First Shakespeare Rodeo

The actor has worked in the theater before, so this wasn’t his first time saying the words of Shakespeare, and it shows. Scott appeared as King Louis XI of France in the story of Henry VI (Tom Sturridge), and he makes his Louis both regal and noble yet capricious and irascible, making his time on screen count while also moving the plot along.

9. Band of Brothers (2001)

Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, Band of Brothers is still one of the greatest TV shows about war, even all these years later. The show follows the Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division during World War II.

The Actor Leaves a Mark

The show was one of the first chances for many actors who would become known, from Simon Pegg and Damien Lewis, to Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, and Andrew Scott. The actor only appears in one episode, “Day of Days,” as John “Cowboy” Hall. They say there’s no small part, only small actors, and Scott proves it here, as even if it’s a small role, the actor leaves a mark, especially on the audience and the character played by Damien Lewis.

8. Black Mirror (2011-Present)

Black Mirror has become the smartest sci-fi show on TV and one of the best anthology TV series of all time. Every episode is its own thing, and that allows for great closed stories like "San Junipero" or "The Entire History of You" and getting fantastic actors to play those parts. Bryce Dallas Howard, Mackenzie Davis, Jesse Plemons, Daniel Kaluuya, Hayley Atwell, and Scott are just some of the actors to appear in this anthology series.

The Actor Plays Tragic, Broken, and Devastated, Spectacularly

Scott was the lead actor in season five's “Smithereens,” playing a tragic character named Chris. The character is a ride-share driver who kidnaps a worker at the social media company, Smithereen. The actor plays tragic, broken, and devastated, spectacularly. As the story goes forward, he portrays even more dark and sad layers to this character, who is completely lost in life after a tragic accident.

7. Oslo (2021)

Based on the play of the same name written by J.T. Rogers, Oslo is a TV movie about the secret negotiations in the Oslo Accords between Israel and Palestine. The accords wouldn’t have worked without a Norwegian couple, diplomats in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mona Juul (Ruth Wilson) and her husband, Terje Rød-Larsen (Scott).

He Plays the Doting Husband With Grace

Scott is great at playing the doting husband, who is trying to help while acknowledging their roles might put both him and his wife in trouble. As the host, his character tries to take some weight off the conversations by creating a space with free-flowing whiskey and food, and the actor sells that idea and how much in his element is when he’s able to know more about the people who are with him, and not their position in the negotiations.

6. The Pursuit of Love (2019)

Written and directed by actress Emily Mortimer (Match Point, Mary Poppins Returns), who might become the next actor turned great director, The Pursuit of Love adapts the book of the same name written by Nancy Mitford. This is the story of two cousins in 1945, Fanny (Emily Beecham) and Linda (Lily James), as the two couldn’t be more different and want different things in life.

He Steals Every Scene He’s in

Scott has the most eccentric and fun character in the whole show, Lord Merlin, a neighbor for whom the word dandy was created. The character and Linda are two peas in a pod, and Lord Merlin tries to protect her from her many romantic adventures, good and bad. The actor steals every scene he’s in, as his Lord Merlin always knows what funny things to say, loves parties, and even dyes his pigeons in strange colors. 5. School of Roars (2017-Present)

School of Roars is an English-animated show for kids. Their lead characters are five monsters who go to Monster Preschool to learn how to deal with many problems, from not breaking things to not being a sore loser.

Scott’s Voice Acting Talent on Full Display

It might feel weird to find the actor who has played Moriarty and the “Hot Priest” and who is going to be playing Mr. Ripley, doing voices in a kids' show, but such are the talents of Andrew Scott. The actor has done voiceovers before, and in this show, he voices many adult characters. He’s the narrator, but also Mr. Snapper, Mr. Bogglelots, and Mr. Marrow, having his voice-acting talent on full display and proving he can do anything.

4. Modern Love (2019-Present)

Modern Love is one of the most underrated series on Prime Video. Based on the weekly column of the same name, published by The New York Times. This anthology series is all about those kinds of stories with an incredible cast, from Anne Hathaway to Dev Patel, Tina Fey, Julia Garner, and Andrew Scott.

He Perfectly Sells His Character’s Evolution

Scott’s biggest role is in the episode “Hers Was a World of One,” where he plays one-half of a gay couple adopting the future baby of pregnant Karla (Olivia Cooke). The actor plays the uptight member of the couple; the one who isn’t comfortable with the arrangement, especially when she moves with them. Once they live together, his character has many problems with Karla’s way of life in the third trimester of her pregnancy. Scott and Cooke have great chemistry together, and both perfectly show how their characters find common grounds and evolve just before she goes into labor.

3. His Dark Materials (2019-2022)

Based on the novels by Philip Pullman, His Dark Materials was a TV series about Lyra (Dafne Keen), an orphan girl who is looking for a missing friend and finds a conspiracy to get the most important material in the whole world, Dust. In this alternate reality, every character has an animal companion named daemon.

The Actor Is Having the Time of His Life With This Character

He’s an explorer; he’s a powerful being; he has lived many lives. The actor is having the time of his life playing this magical character with a traumatic past, as it allows him to display all his acting talents. Scott appeared in seven episodes as John Parry/Jopari, a marine and explorer and father to Will (Amir Wilson), one of the most important characters in the show. Fun fact: the show has a Fleabag reunion, as Scott’s character daemon is voiced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

2. Sherlock (2010-2017)

Sherlock was the latest look at the famous character. This time, by moving him to present-day London. It has a breakout performance by Benedict Cumberbatch as the detective, with the support of Martin Freeman as Watson. The show had three 90-minute episodes a season, and its last season was in 2017. Even then, audiences are still hoping it might come back eve if it's just as a film, which might be a great idea.

He Played Sherlock’s Nemesis, Moriarty

Scott appeared in nine episodes as Sherlock’s nemesis, Jim Moriarty, in the performance most first saw him in. This Moriarty was a much more unhinged and cruel villain, a full-on sociopath whose only objective was to kill Sherlock, and Scott sold the hell out of that character. The creators were so impressed by his performance that they kept adding him in new episodes, so he could continue doing his crazy Moriarty thing, tormenting the heroes and creating absolutely Machiavellian plans.

1. Fleabag (2016-2019)

Scott was the most important part of Fleabag’s season two, after Phoebe Waller-Bridge herself, as he played the “hot priest”. The character was as complicated a mess as the show’s heroine, and that’s why they understood each other and fit together so well, so much so that he was the only one who could see Fleabag was breaking the fourth wall and looking at the audience every once in a while.

A Nuanced and Beautiful Performance

For many, Fleabag is one of the greatest TV shows of all time, and Scott’s performance had a hand in that. His priest is not the typical one, as he’s conflicted and has his own crisis of faith. He’s also in love with Fleabag. The actor is able to convey those conflicting feelings perfectly, with nuance, and show them to the audience all at once. His “It’ll pass,” is one of the most devastating yet beautiful words said by the actor in his career, as it says everything it needs, making for one of the best endings in TV history.'

Mark Waid Drops JSA Nuggets and New History Hints at WonderCon!

The Comic Book Club has a fantastic recap of Mark Waid’s “50 Answers in 50 Minutes” panel at this year’s WonderCon. Waid took on a wide range of rapid-fire questions, touching on everything from the New History of the DC Universe to Hawkman, his favorite JSA member, and even Hourman’s buddy Snapper Carr. Here are a few highlights:

The biggest continuity twist to deal with in New History of the DC Universe? He notes that the previous history had 100 pages in 1986, he has 120 pages for 80 years. “I’m doing my best,” says Waid. “The hardest one to wrangle, besides Hawkman — nobody understands Hawkman,” is Wonder Girl. He also notes it’s the current DC Universe, not any of the pre-Crisis continuities, which helps a little bit.

How did the New History of the DCU come about?  It was in the works before he came back to DC. “I made it abundantly clear I would burn that place to the ground if I didn’t do it.”

Favorite JSA character?  Original Mr. Terrific.

Can you bring back Snapper Carr?  I will find a place for Snapper Carr.

Has anyone ever said what was up with the third Robin? The one who was a founder of Young Justice and later joined the Teen Titans. Cause for a while he was basically, he was acting like he wasn't a founding member of Young Justice, trying to dodge photos and news. That brief reality show they had, that Snapper Carr helped set up, he pops up calling himself Mr. Sarcastic in a weird thrown together costume. This was well after Batman's urban legend era. I certainly don't expect him to have ever said anything, but he has had some more media savvy teammates

I cannot express to you how sometimes the Bats are just sometimes Like That (tm). The Bat Family are notoriously insular and a bit strange and no one can really know for certain why they do the things they do only that they close ranks very tightly and despite any outwardly noticeable spats or separation their bond is a very close knit one.

The 3rd Robin always represented something of a new era. We can tell he's not any of the other Robins by looking at the details. While all the male robins are young white(ish) men with short dark hair we know he's not the 1st or 2nd Robin because he's wearing pants and actual shows and we know he's not the later robins because he's not either a blonde woman or 4 feet tall.

He entered the picture a short while after the death of the 2nd Robin, and just in time too as many outside observers made note that Batman was starting to fly further and further off the rails without having a partner to balance him out including the famous story of him nearly staging an assault on the UN building in New York to find and murder the Joker who was responsible for the crime.

From the jump this 3rd Robin was much more independently minded than either of his predecessors and was seen working on his own far more often than either of the previous two. He's also seen as being the protege who takes after the Dark Knight's title of World's Greatest Detective most closely, said to have skills of deduction that flummox even Batman in certain cases. But with that in mind he does still take his cues from Batman. The lack of publicity and the increased obfuscation related to his membership in Young Justice could mean many things. He could have had a secret identity scare just before or ongoing during his early membership with the team, it could have been an intentional tactic by Robin or Batman for some grander purpose or it could be that the man himself was just a bit more caution that was strictly required. I doubt the idea that it was some kind of grand plan though since from what his teammates said he was also hesitant to share his secret identity with THEM for the longest time, a very odd and unorthodox habit that seems to have caused friction in the group, Hero teams being aware of one another's secret identities is, as you can imagine, a common mark of trust within a team going back to the early days of the Justice Society. Going back to watch their abortive reality show though, I think "Mr Sarcastic" was an intentional farce. Robin didn't seem to like the idea of the show existing and was trying to make it look ridiculous and discourage its success. Because while the Bats may be gothic they are also notoriously impish when they have half a mind to be.

Constantly just dropping some casual “i mean it’s really obvious!- (cut to mind boggling physics twisting gameplay) but I mean it’s kinda cool” style comments in the middle of his videos like I’m not losing my mind at the idea of making a trap door. “Oh snappers!” Sir. Sir are you aware I’m currently six feet under?

“You have a way with words, Miss Danvers.”

Kara would never forget that statement. It was early on, she barely knew Lena then, but somehow, Lena uttered the words that shifted Kara’s career path, put her in a position to do good for her community not just as Supergirl but also as Kara Danvers.

Kara remembers how hearing Lena say those words made her feel at the time. Self-conscious, a little shy, but at the same time, they lit a fire in her. If someone as successful and powerful as Lena Luthor thought she had a talent for writing, thought she had the chops to be a reporter in her own right, then maybe she should really give that a proper try. Lena had said the words at a point where Kara wasn’t sure she was cut out for the job. Snapper had been hard to work for, often ignoring her suggestions for stories to cover and relegating her to do menial tasks that were not much better than running errands for Cat Grant. Kara had spent several evenings with Alex in those early days, complaining about her job, about Snapper, even bouncing ideas for entirely different careers off her sister.

But then Lena told her that she was a good writer.

And it changed everything.

When Kara gets home that evening, late after a few meetings at CatCo that required the newly installed Editor-in-Chief to be present, she finds Lena curled up on the couch, flipping through CatCo’s latest print edition.

“Hi,” Kara greets her, the stress of the day evaporating as soon as she steps more fully into the apartment.

Lena looks up and smiles. “Hey you. There’s Chinese takeout in the fridge. I can warm it up if you want to have a quick shower?”

Kara drops her jacket and purse on the kitchen island and walks over to Lena, pressing a quick kiss to the top of her head.

“That sounds perfect.” 

After a pause, she leans over to peek at the article Lena has open in her lap. It’s a short interview Kara gave about becoming Editor-in-Chief, a puff piece, really, but in it, she credited Lena for inspiring her to be the best reporter she could be.

When she pulls back a little, Lena is looking at her, eyebrow raised, and smirks.

“You still have a way with words, Mrs. Danvers.”

“It’s Luthor-Danvers, I’ll have you know.”

Lena laughs a little, but pulls her closer for a kiss. “Go have a shower. Food will be ready when you’re done, and then I want to see if I can make you forget all your words later.”

Little Scraps of Wisdom Anniversary!

Hi everybody! @spectralsleuth's fic Little Scraps of Wisdom was first posted a year ago today and me and @alicat54c got together with some other people to make an anniversary gift <3

If you haven't read it, it's REALLY good, it's a series of stories about Yoshi/Lou escaping Draxum with the kids without being mutated, and him integrating them into human society. Audio's writing is so lovely! <3

Premise of this gift is that the tots from Little Scraps of Empathy (LSoW / Empathy is Learned crossover; also very cute) found Ghost in the sewers and decided to bring him home with them while their family is out.

“You’ll love our big brothers, Mr. Ghost!” the little spotted turtle, Touma, chattered. “Mikey makes the best food, and teaches me how to make the best food too!”

“You guys must eat really well, then,” Ghost murmured, casting apprehensive looks around the home.

“Hm!” Touma squeaked. “Mikey made a whole salmon for Raph yesterday! I got to help!”

“You should sit!” Aoi, the little slider, patted Ghost’s knees. “Dad says it’s polite to sit nice guests on the couch, not stand in the hallway.”

“Oh.” Ghost shuffled further inside, eyes scanning as he let the four little ones guide him into the other room, where he perched on the edge of the couch.

He could see an old magazine on the coffee table, depicting a grinning human in yellow tinted glasses. There were more beneath that, but Shima, the little soft shell, climbed onto the couch next to him, peering into his face intently.

Ghost hesitated before reaching out and petting over his head slowly.

Shima’s glowing red eyes scrunched shut as he leaned into the touch, tiny churr in his throat, before settling back against the opposite arm of the couch. 

“What were you guys doing out in the sewers?” Ghost asked, eyes softening at Shima. “You’ve got a nice house to live in here.”

“Dad never said we couldn’t go outside,” Aoi argued, fiddling with something under the table. “Just that we shouldn’t touch Donnie’s plants, in case, um, something.”

“Eaten,” the snapper, Kouji, signed, flopping onto the floor, where a pile of blankets and cushions had been stacked,

“Thanks for helping us find home!” Touma chirped, struggling to climb onto the couch cushions without digging his claws into the fabric.

Ghost scooped him up, placing him on the couch. His eyes kept drifting over the magazines on the table, then back up to sweep all the entrances.

Touma cuddled against him immediately, little yellow spots creasing like freckles as he smiled. “Thank you Mr. Ghost!”

“Yeah…” Ghost petted over Touma’s shell. “How did you all end up here…?”

“We used to live in the storm drain, before Dad found us,” Aoi chattered. They seemed to be setting up a game of chess on the coffee table. “We wanted to see what the storm drains here were like. We didn’t mean to get lost! But it’s okay, we found you! Dad likes turtles, so Dad’s gonna like you too!”

Ghost hunched his shoulders slightly, taking note of the exits once more.

Touma chirped, cuddling against his plastron. His grip was strong for a turtle of his size. “It’s okay, Dad’s nice! He makes sure no one screams at us! You don’t have to be scared!”

“Oh, no, it’s not–” Ghost paused, taking a breath and curling an arm around Touma. “That’s… good to know.”

“Do you want to play with me?” Aoi’s red eyes peered up at Ghost hopefully.

Ghost surveyed the board game, nodding. “You play?”

“Hm!” Aoi nodded. “Leo, my big brother, is teaching me how to play better, and lots’a other fun games too! He’s the best! Do you know any fun games?”

“Some…” Ghost sat forward on the couch to peer at the board. “You can go first.”

“Okay!” Aoi moved a knight. 

As they played, and whichever hand was free went to petting either Touma or Shima, Ghost wondered why a famous actor would adopt not four, but supposedly eight entire mutant turtles. He couldn’t see anything to gain from it, except perhaps more fame, but it came with more problems than it was worth. There were easier ways to get famous.

Ghost wondered why they were living aboveground, in a normal house, on a normal block, like they were humans. Was it possible?

Casually, he moved some of the magazines to look at the covers. If not Lou Jitsu, then it was Hamato Leonardo, posed and dressed like a model, bright red crescents always prominent. Ghost could feel his own Leonardo cringing at the thought of being seen, let alone modeling for a magazine on purpose. 

How did everyone know about them and nothing happened? Was it possible to live like this?

“Checkmate!” Aoi chirped, drawing his attention forward again.

Ghost blinked. He hadn’t been paying that much attention to the game and it had cost him. “Mm. You’re very good.”

Aoi beamed, tail wiggling. “Leo’s teaching me! He’s really fun to play with! Um, I like playing with you too!”

Ghost’s eyes softened. “Yeah. Me too.” He started to reset the board. “Another game?” He would pay attention this time. Give the kid a run for his money, as it were.

“Yeah!” Aoi chirped, already resetting the board.

“Shelldon says Dad and everyone’s gonna be home soon,” Shima hummed, playing with a tiny spider between their claws. It glinted metallically. 

“I should…” Ghost stood, stiff. “I should go.”

“You can’t go!”Touma cried, latching onto his arm like a vice.

“You gotta stay!” Aoi latched onto his leg just as tightly. He was trapped. 

“I can’t,” Ghost insisted, desperately. “I have to go, I can’t– I’m not supposed to–”

“Nooo!” Aoi whined, as Kouji wriggled out of his nest to capture Ghost’s other leg. “We want you to meet Dad and our brothers!”

“I can’t, I don’t belong here!” Ghost tried plucking them off carefully but they were like barnacles. If he wasn’t terrified of hurting them, he could have run.

If he really wanted to, he could have gotten away.

There was a rattle of keys in the lock, frantic worried voices on the doorstep. 

“Daddy!” The little turtles cheered, voices eerily in sync. 

The door opened.

Ghost swallowed.

Looks like he was stuck here for a while.

"You shouldn't put it off this long." I told him, as I hung up his jeans to try.

I may take his clothes back to my place and throw them in the dryer with my clothes.

"Thanks mom." He said sarcastically to me.

Just as we were about done, some dark clouds were gathering in the sky, making Eddie moan.

"Let's go to my place and dry this stuff. I have a load I have to put in the dryer."

Him and I quickly took everything down, and placing it back in the laundry basket just as the heavens opened up and it started to rain once more.

We got to my car, him throwing his clothes in the backseat as I started up the car.

He got in, joining me for the car ride back to my place.

The radio was playing, and I could tell he was upset about the music.

"You can change the station."

"Pfft, like any station around here will be playing my type of music. You know, the devil's music."

He made me laugh when he did the horn thing against the sides of his head and stick his tongue out.

"Hopefully I can save up and get a car with a tape player."

"Nah, your car is fine. Better than my van."

"That's because you need to get it serviced once in a blue moon."

Out of the corner of my eye I saw him just mouth 'yeah yeah.' and then look out the window, silence once more.

I put our clothes in the dryer, and found Eddid in my room, not where I left him mind you.

"Being a pervert again, Mr Munson?" I asked him as I leaned against my doorframe.

"Oh very much so." He turned around to face me, and my eyes widened when I saw what was in his hands.

"Okay, enough playing with my stuff, put it back Eddie." I tried to snatch the bra from his hand, but he took a step back.

"So which one are you wearing now?" He asked me, his eyes zoned in my chest."

"None of your concern. Give it back." I demanded.

"Come on, show me or better yet," He didn't even finish what he was saying as he snapped the glitter clear one, which I already knew what that one meant.

"Really Eddie? You want to feel me up?"

He gave me a small smile and shrugged.

"Fine." I closed the door behind me, not wanting to be interrupted by Steve or Robin when they come back home from work.

I took off my shirt, kind of embarrassed about what bra I am wearing right now.

It isn't one of my nice ones, and I was sure no one was going to be seeing it today.

Eddie's hands were on my shoulders, massaging them for a minute, and then his hands slowly slid down until they were cupping my breasts over my bra.
