I'd love to have something witty to say here, but I think this one post speaks for himself in a way no words could.
Originally, I wanted to do a "simple" redraw of a silly meme, I have no idea HOW it eneded up being a four pages comic. And WHY there's also a JOJO reference within of all things. So uhm, anyway...
✨ Sources and references ✨
The "Dilf Detected Comic" [original unedited comic, meme format, meme format if you want the rebloggable tumblr version]
The "Oh? You're Approaching Me?" panel from the manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (chapter 143)
Hope you've liked the Aries™ Rizz©® ok bye
#wren draws stuff#artist on tumblr#art#fanart#comics#saint seiya#saint seiya fanart#knights of the zodiac#los caballeros del zodiaco#cdz#les chevaliers du zodiaque#i cavalieri dello zodiaco#aries mu#taurus aldebaran#appendix kiki#aldemu#aries kiki#taurus harbinger#appendix raki#visually I had this drawing sitting on my desktop since August in a folder named “Aries_RIZZ_2024”#what else to say. First 2 images kinda ate with colors and backgrounds fr. WE'RE GOING PINK BOIZ (I thought I was a pastel blue person 😞😖)#tbh this is the first time I'm drawing Harbinger 💖 he's so silly I love him. Also he's like... meme material... I have to meme redraw him#also the jojo part eh. I think I could have done better but I didn't want to change the iconic pose too much and I end up like that#not bad but I think I could've add my own twist to it instead of simply copying it :/ next time I guess#or maybe spending less time adding 300 flames overlay effects hmm... I don't know really😬🤯#also raki my beloved 🥰💖 might draw her a bit more (she's funny to draw and I'm tired of drawing only men)#Also yes Mu is trying super hard to rizz poor Alde 😳 Kiki tried the same with Harbinger#but he slept for most of the original Aries Rizz Class. Kids these days don't have attention span anymore 🙄🙄🙄 (boomer humour or whatever)

Jack Playlist!!
Playlist explanation under cut! :] :] :]
Lovers Rock by TV Girl - [Jack x JOAT song lol] Jack’s main love song. He’s crushing again but he always gets afraid at this part. He wants to be with him but he’s afraid to let another person into his life only for him to lose them later on. But still, he can’t stop himself from falling. It’ll only be a matter of time.
The Red Means I Love You by Madds Buckley - Just Jackie being a silly vampire. Most likely directed towards Andrew, his vampire hunter boyfriend. His Castle arc is the one where he finds himself embracing his vampiric side the most.
Supersonics by Caravan Palace - Vibing song. Mostly just imagine the Jack Class running around and causing trouble. Just them vibing and committing atrocities.
Absence by Rio Romeo - Directed to TFC Heavy. He wrote him a personal letter to him before he left the Classic Team. They were an on and off thing, but that didn’t mean that they didn’t have fun together.
Taking What’s Not Yours by TV Girl- THE Jack song. He often takes memorabilia with him whenever he leaves a certain point of his life behind. He has items from lovers, writings and such times in his life that feel important etc. He also lives with survivor's guilt so that’s why this song is perfect for him with its sort of melancholic tone (?)
Cynical One by TV Girl - Lots of themes about love and heartbreak. Mostly used this song for the mood of the night. He sneaks out often to be by himself and contemplates the nature of his life, along with all the regrets from losing each person he cared about. And the fears of the future when new people come into his life. He’s very scared of the future.
Pretty Boy by TV Girl - A song from the perspective of Andrew to Jack. Their relationship is casual because of their contrasting views, but he can’t help but sympathize with the supposed monster. He’s so much more human than anyone else and only Andrew will ever see that.
Fuck it by Rio Romeo - A look into his dismissive and pessimistic outlook whenever he gets sad and such. Very sarcastic as well, which fits him well.
Panic by Caravan Palace - Jack vs Maya. Looks like the rat found his match… The genre is also a good combination of their own genres that define them.
#my things#tf2#my ocs are my children#tf2 oc#team fortress 2#team fortress oc#TF2OcContest2024#tenth class oc#jack tag#for now I’ll get back to drawing stickmen#I’ll put in new propaganda and such of jack and maya somewhere in the middle of the month#oc playlist#mu sick#Spotify#also mick I hope u don’t mind the jackjoat shipping :]

STUDY ME
pairing: perfect student! male OC x male reader [faceclaim]
synopsis: No one’s ever ranked higher than Haruki Mikage—until you do. You’re new, unsettlingly smart, and partnered with him for a major project. Haruki’s trying to stay composed, but your odd habits, offhanded comments, and freakish talent in the kitchen are messing with his head. He should’ve ignored you. He doesn’t.
content warnings : 18+, academic rivals to something else, reader is creepy-smart and says weird shit unprovoked, golden boy Haruki smokes under pressure, slow burn with freaky tension, blowjob at the end of ch1 (reader giving), reader’s thoughts are not normal, shared trauma over academic excellence, high-school setting, light humiliation kink energy, some bullying, borderline-obsessive chemistry, they’re both unwell but in different fonts. also: the project does get submitted on time. barely.
word count: 3.4k
The paper wasn’t even all the way up on the board before someone in the hallway let out a low whistle.
“Yo, he’s not first anymore.”
The teacher pressed the last corner of the sheet flat against the corkboard with her palm, used a pin to anchor it in place. She stepped back. The crowd surged forward.
Haruki Mikage didn’t move from his desk.
He didn’t have to. He already knew what it said.
He’d been top-ranked every semester since middle school—longer, if you counted the city-wide assessments and mock entrance exams his mother used to post on the fridge like they were participation ribbons. Everyone knew his name. They whispered it before exams, hated him for it after. Professors adored him. Classmates tolerated him. His grades were a forgone conclusion.
But still, there was that whistle.
That murmur again.
The skin between his shoulder blades prickled with something unfamiliar.
He’s not first anymore.
He set his pen down.
Someone pressed a palm to the open door. “Mikage.”
Haruki looked up.
It was Kinoshita from 2-A. Always too loud, always too nosey.
“There’s a new name up there,” Kinoshita said, eyes wide, half in disbelief and half in that messy kind of glee people reserved for perfect students slipping. “You’re second.”
Haruki blinked once.
Kinoshita grinned. “They only wrote the family name. No one knows who it is yet.”
Haruki didn’t answer. He just turned back to his notebook and wrote the date in the top right corner. Kinoshita lingered in the doorway a second longer, waiting for something. A reaction. A twitch. Even a shrug.
He got nothing.
Haruki didn’t even look bothered.
But the tip of his pen was pressed too hard into the paper. Ink pooling.
∘₊✧
He didn’t go look at the list.
Not during lunch, not after school. Everyone else swarmed the board. The hall smelled like shoe rubber and shampoo and stress. A few people snapped photos. One girl squealed. Someone muttered your last name and said, “It has to be a mistake.”
It wasn’t.
Your name was written in blocky black print above Haruki’s, the gap between your scores barely two digits wide—but it was enough. It was real.
You weren’t in his class last year. No one knew who you were. You didn’t even have a photo in the club yearbook. No whispers, no rumors, no posts online. Just a name no one recognized and a score too high to ignore.
That should’ve been the end of it.
One test. One fluke.
People were curious, but curiosity burned out fast here. Unless you were someone interesting, someone visible, someone like Haruki—nobody lasted more than a few weeks before fading back into academic noise.
Except you didn’t fade. You didn’t do anything. You just existed in the background.
Quiet. Distant. Present. Like static. Like a blank space on a page that never stopped drawing the eye.
He should’ve forgotten it.
But your name kept coming up—softly, between other people’s conversations. No one knew where you were from. Or why your name was never on any club roster. Or what kind of person beat Haruki Mikage and then refused to show their face.
Someone in class said you were weird. That you mumbled to yourself. That you drew creepy shit in the corners of your worksheet margins and then never turned them in.
Another said you laughed in the middle of a chemistry lecture, and no one knew why.
Someone else said they saw you eating cold rice balls under the gym stairs, headphones on, eyes closed, mouthing the words to something that didn’t exist.
None of that made sense.
None of it matched the clean, precise writing next to the top score on the midterm report.
But Haruki remembered it anyway.
∘₊✧
The first time he saw you was two weeks later.
There was no grand entrance. You just walked in a little after the second bell, half-zipped jacket, hair a mess, notebooks clutched to your chest like a bribe.
Haruki was already seated. Already organised. Already done with the warm-up quiz.
You didn’t look at him.
You walked past him, past everyone, and sat in the back corner of the room by the window. The only desk that hadn’t been claimed.
You slumped down. Dropped your bag. Took out a pencil that had bite marks in it and started copying notes from the board with a half-lidded stare.
Haruki stared. He couldn’t help it.
There were no rumours about how you looked—no pictures online, no Instagram stories. But this wasn’t what he expected.
You weren’t particularly neat. Or polished. Your uniform didn’t fit right, like it had been ironed two days ago and then slept in. Your fingers were ink-stained. Your collar slightly crooked.
You were pretty. But in a way that felt… accidental. Or wrong. Like a painting flipped upside down.
There was something strange about your face. Or maybe your mouth. It looked like it wanted to smile, but didn’t know how.
You looked up once during the lecture. Your eyes met his.
Then you winked.
Haruki turned back to his textbook immediately, his throat dry.
He didn’t look at you again for the rest of the period.
But he felt you looking.
∘₊✧
The class project was announced the next week.
“Pairs of two,” the teacher said, holding up a glass bowl with folded slips inside. “We’re going to assign them randomly. You’ll have three weeks to put your presentations together. Graded on both content and performance.”
She walked between rows with the bowl.
Haruki reached in, pulled a number: 9.
He waited patiently while the others filed through their slips. Then your name was called.
You pulled yours out. Paused. Tapped it twice against your palm.
You looked right at him when you said, “Nine.”
Haruki’s fingers twitched around his pen.
∘₊✧
He didn’t say anything until after class.
You were still packing up, slow and disorganised. You dropped your folder and didn’t bother to pick up half the papers that slid out. A few had doodles in the margins. They looked like vines. Or veins.
“Haruki Mikage,” he said.
You blinked up at him, surprised. “Yeah?”
He stared. Then, “That’s my name.”
You tilted your head.
“I know,” you said. “You're the guy with the stupidly perfect eyebrows.”
He stared harder.
You reached for your bag, smiling faintly. “Are we gonna start working on this project, or are you gonna keep staring at me like I just spit in your bento?”
Haruki didn’t respond.
You laughed softly—barely audible. Like you hadn’t meant to do it.
Then you leaned forward and whispered, “You always look like you’re trying not to judge me. It’s okay. You can. It makes your mouth look sharper.”
His stomach twisted. He stepped back.
You turned and walked off like nothing happened.
Like you hadn’t just said the first thing that’s ever made him lose his breath.
∘₊✧
The two of you met for the first study session in the back corner of the library, because, of course, you suggested it, and of course, Haruki said yes, even though it went against his better judgment, instincts, and every fibre of his tightly-wound existence.
“This is where the ghosts live,” you said, dropping your bag to the floor and immediately sitting cross-legged on the chair. “They’re chill, though. As long as you don’t read anything out loud in Latin.”
Haruki blinked at you over the top of his textbook. “I don’t read Latin,” he said flatly.
You grinned. “That’s good. You’ve got exorcism hands, not summoning hands.”
“What does that even mean?”
“It’s a compliment.” It didn’t sound like one. But also—it kind of did?
You kicked your leg a little, humming under your breath. Then you reached over and grabbed his pen. Didn’t even ask. Just took it. Twirled it between your fingers like a wand and said, “Alright, Harvard. Let’s get this nerd orgy started.”
“…Excuse me?”
You looked at him innocently. “You’re telling me you don’t think studying is a group kink?”
Haruki did not dignify that with a response.
You leaned back in your seat and tilted your head, staring at him like you were taking inventory of something beneath his skin. Then:
“Have you always been like this?”
“…Like what?”
“Like a boy who was genetically engineered to be the president of every club. Like a human version of whatever’s in those vitamin gummies for your brain.”
Haruki frowned, flipping to the next page of the syllabus. “And you’ve always been like this?”
“Unfortunately,” you replied, deadpan. “I tried being normal once. Got a nosebleed.”
He didn’t believe a single word out of your mouth.
He also couldn’t stop looking at you.
Not in the overt, obvious way. Just… his eyes kept landing on the curve of your neck when you tilted your head back to think. Or the way your lips moved when you mouthed words to yourself under your breath. You chewed your pen sometimes, distractedly.
You had a pretty mouth. Haruki wondered what it would feel like around his fingers.
You tapped your fingers against your leg in a rhythm he couldn’t decipher. You made references he didn’t understand.
“Did you know Freud had a raging thing for eels?”
“…What?”
“He dissected like so many of them. Never found the testes. Drove him insane. I feel like you’re my eel.”
Haruki slowly set his pen down.
“I’m… what.”
“I don’t get you,” you said, voice lighter. Not teasing now. Just honest. “You’re like this shiny, polished, student council-approved perfection android. But then you make these tiny expressions when no one’s looking. Like you’re pissed. Or bored. Or like you wanna scream into a pillow for eight hours.”
He stared. Speechless.
You tilted your head again. “Have you ever screamed into a pillow?”
“No,” he said slowly, carefully. “Have you?”
You smiled. “Only when someone's on top of me.”
Haruki’s brain short-circuited for a second.
You opened your notebook like you hadn’t just dropped a sentence that would require him to pray afterwards. “Okay, let’s start with the thesis breakdown. We can decide if you wanna present or I wanna present, but either way, I get to say the weird part.”
“There’s… a weird part?”
“There’s always a weird part,” you said, eyes sparkling. “It’s the whole point of writing anything. Gotta add the bite.”
He didn’t know what you meant, but his pulse ticked up anyway.
You worked surprisingly well together.
You were smart. Not just academically, but weird smart. You pulled random quotes from obscure films, recalled footnotes Haruki had skimmed past, and made connections he hadn’t even considered. And the worst part was—your instincts were always right.
You were completely unserious about your own reputation, but deadly serious about the work. Which meant that Haruki—perfectionist, ruthless, prideful Haruki—couldn’t even hate you for beating him.
All he could do was sit across from you while you explained why you thought the author used soil erosion as a metaphor for emotional decay and pretend his leg wasn’t bouncing under the table.
When the session ended, you leaned over his side of the desk to grab your drink—and stayed there.
You were too close.
Too casual.
Your hair was a little messy. Your breath smelled like melon soda and mints. And when you pulled away, you laughed like you knew exactly what you were doing.
“I’ll text you,” you said, swinging your bag over one shoulder. “Unless you’d prefer I send smoke signals from the roof.”
“I don’t have your number.”
You blinked.
“Oh. Right.”
You held your hand out. Palm up. Waiting.
Haruki hesitated. Then handed over his phone.
You typed something fast, then handed it back.
The name you saved in his contacts wasn’t your name.
It just said: [threat level: weirdly hot]
He didn’t correct it.
∘₊✧
Haruki stepped out onto the rooftop with his blazer slung over his shoulder, tie loosened just enough not to look sloppy. He didn’t really care if people saw the cigarette between his fingers — nobody ever said anything. Not to him. It was the kind of privilege that came with being him.
Top grades. National mock test finalist. MVP of the volleyball team. Editor of the student journal. The golden boy. Your mother’s favorite. Your teacher’s pride. The one who always knew the answer but never rubbed it in.
And here he was, burning through his second cigarette of the afternoon, hoping it would quiet the spinning in his head.
He hated that it didn’t.
The shouting started before he even made it down the last step.
“Why don’t you just eat somewhere else?” someone hissed.
“I’m not in the mood to deal with this freak show today—seriously, you always pick the corner seat like it’s your kingdom or something.”
Haruki’s foot hit the bottom stair.
He knew that voice. Loud. Entitled. A second-year student from the basketball team who walked around like he owned the school just because he had abs and rich parents. The group around him laughed, but it sounded more like barking.
You were sitting alone, lunch in your lap, face unreadable. Picking at your rice like you couldn’t hear them.
You didn’t flinch. Didn’t look up. But your hands had gone still.
Haruki’s voice cut in before he could think about it.
“You talk a lot for someone that far below average,” he said flatly.
Silence.
The air shifted.
The guy whipped around, only to pale when he saw Haruki standing there, jacket off, sleeves rolled, cigarette still burning between his fingers.
Haruki didn’t raise his voice. He didn’t need to.
“Keep walking,” he added.
The group scattered. No one apologised. No one even made eye contact. They just fled, like hyenas realising the lion hadn’t left after all.
You glanced up at him with a half-smile. “Wow. My hero.”
“You shouldn’t let them get to you.”
“I don’t.” You popped a cherry tomato into your mouth. “I just added them to the list.”
“…What list.”
You didn’t answer. You just chewed and smiled.
∘₊✧
Later that week.
You opened the door in a loose black T-shirt and grey sweatpants, hair wet from a shower and sticking to your forehead in damp, clinging strands. You looked cosy in a way that made Haruki’s lungs feel too tight.
“You made it,” you said, stepping aside to let him in. “Wanna see something cool?”
Haruki followed you in, expecting weird posters, weird books, and maybe an Ouija board or something.
What he didn’t expect was—
The kitchen.
Clean. Lived-in. There was a wooden cutting board already dusted with flour. Soy sauce, mirin, and sesame oil lined up neatly on the counter. A cast iron pot simmering quietly on the stove, steam curling like the first exhale of a ghost.
You tied an apron around your waist and turned slightly. “Sit.”
He did.
The scent was unreal.
Rich and savoury. Ginger and garlic blooming in oil, followed by a splash of sake and the quiet crackle of meat hitting the pan. Chicken thighs, if he wasn’t mistaken—bone-in, skin crisping in real time as you basted it with soy and sugar.
The sauce thickened into a lacquered glaze, caramel-dark and glistening. You flipped the pieces with casual precision, face calm in a way he’d never seen in class. Focused. Almost elegant.
You weren’t speaking. Just humming. A low, tuneless little rhythm under your breath.
He watched the way your fingers moved—quick and practised as you sliced scallions into fine curls, sprinkled furikake over the steaming rice. You moved like you lived in the kitchen, like it wasn’t a performance.
The food was simple, but the kind of simple that only comes from knowing what you're doing. Like you’d made this a hundred times for someone you cared about.
No one had ever cooked for Haruki before.
He didn’t realise how tightly he was gripping the edge of the chair until you set the plate in front of him and the smell hit him like a memory he didn’t have.
He blinked. “This is…”
“Chicken nanban,” you said. “I made the tartar sauce from scratch.”
Haruki picked up his chopsticks, swallowed something thick in his throat, and took a bite.
The chicken cracked at the surface, still hot enough to burn, still sweet from the soy and vinegar glaze. The homemade tartar had bits of pickles and onion, just sharp enough to cut through the richness. The rice underneath had soaked up some of the sauce, sticky and warm.
It was stupidly good.
He kept eating quietly. You sat down beside him with your own plate and started scrolling through your phone, legs tucked up under you.
“Why do you know how to cook like this?” he asked finally.
You shrugged. “I like taking care of things.”
“…People?”
“Depends,” you said, tone lazy. “You wanna be taken care of?”
He looked at you. You didn’t look up.
The silence between you stretched like sugar—warm, sticky, slow.
He put his chopsticks down.
You turned to him.
And smiled.
Haruki wasn’t sure what he expected your room to look like, but it wasn’t this.
Simple, mostly. Clean. A little lived-in. The walls were bare except for a stack of books pushed into a crooked shelf, a futon folded neatly in one corner, and a secondhand desk with a few pens left uncapped. A soft hum filled the silence — maybe a fan from the hall or the fridge ticking quietly through the wall.
You tossed your bag down and sat on the floor like you didn’t feel the shift in the air. Haruki did. His skin felt too tight. The space between your bodies suddenly felt loaded.
“So this is where you hide,” he said, trying to sound casual.
You looked at him. Really looked at him. Then shrugged.
“I like quiet,” you murmured. “It’s hard to find in school.”
Haruki didn’t know what to say to that, so he didn’t say anything at all.
You watched him for a long beat, then patted the space in front of you.
“C’mere.”
He hesitated. You raised a brow. And then he moved — sat down across from you with crossed legs and a heart that wouldn’t stop thudding.
You didn’t touch him at first. Just stared. Haruki stared back. He wasn’t used to that, either — being looked at like he was something to be read, not admired. It made him feel strange. Exposed.
“Haruki,” you said, voice softer now, almost uncertain. “Do you ever stop thinking?”
His mouth opened — then closed. He didn’t have an answer.
You leaned in, slow like a question. Gave him time to stop it.
He didn’t.
So you kissed him.
Just once, at first — a slow press, the kind that didn’t demand anything. Then again, this time deeper. Haruki inhaled sharply, hands hovering like he wasn’t sure where to put them. You pulled back only slightly.
“You can touch me.”
The words were soft. Not teasing. Just an offer.
Haruki’s fingers found your shoulders, then your jaw, then finally threaded into your hair like it made sense.
You kissed him again.
And again.
Until you shifted, pushed gently at his chest. He leaned back onto his elbows, lips parted, breath shaky. You sank to your knees in front of him, palms brushing the hem of his shirt.
He watched, stunned, as your hands moved with practised ease — unbuttoning, unzipping, until he was bare from the waist down. The air was cool against his erection. Your breath was warm.
“Wait—” he managed, voice a little broken. “Are you… sure?”
You looked up at him with the faintest smile.
“Very.”
And then you lowered your head.
The first touch of your mouth on his cock made his breath stutter. He’d never—no one had ever—
He clutched at the sheets beneath him, back arching slightly. You didn’t rush. Just took him in slow, deep, unhurried. Your hands on his thighs kept him steady, kept him grounded.
Haruki didn’t know where to look. Your lips, your eyelashes, the ceiling — nothing helped. His brain was static.
You hummed against him, the vibration sending a full-body shiver up his spine.
“Fuck,” he gasped, hands fisting the blanket. “That—wait—don’t—”
But he didn’t want you to stop. Not really. And you knew that.
You pulled back just long enough to whisper, “It’s okay. You can let go.”
And when he did, it was quiet.
His jaw went slack. His head tipped back. Your name curled off his tongue like something reverent. He was shaking.
You swallowed, slow and clean, and wiped the corner of your mouth with your thumb.
Then you looked up at him.
Smiled like it was just another Tuesday.
“You taste like stress and bad decisions.”
Haruki lay there, bare and ruined, heartbeat in his throat.
You stood, grabbed your water bottle, and stretched like a cat.
“Wanna stay for dinner?”

Someone should honestly write a "4 Times That Shang Qinghua and Shen Qingqiu Accidentally Acted Like Partners (and 1 Time They Finally Realized It)" thing. That would be so fun.
Here's some of what I got so far, though they're a tad incomplete. Feel free to add on!!!
Sharing a Bed
Shen Qingqiu stumbled into the peak lord meeting right before the starting time, eyes barely even open. He was impeccably dressed, as always, but the slight puffiness of his eyes and the way he was fighting back a yawn signaled to the fact that he might have rolled out of bed barely 5 minutes before.
He ignored the stares that he received as he made his way over and slid into the seat next to Shang Qinghua, groaning. Shang Qinghua raised his eyebrow at him, mildly amused. For once, he was the slightly well-rested one and his friend was the sleep-deprived mess. Despite this, he started pouring a cup of tea for the other.
"Shen-shixiong, did you even sleep properly? You were the one who told me to go home and get more sleep." He finished pouring the tea and passed the cup to his friend, before pouring himself a cup.
Shen Qingqiu groaned even louder at his words but accepted the cup. "I know, I know. I just couldn't get to sleep, though." He took a small sip and sighed in delight. "It's just that your bed is so much more comfortable than mine, so--"
Shang Qinghua, midway through drinking his tea, choked.
Silence.
Absolute silence. Mu Qingfang slowly put down his brush while Qi Qingqi's eyes darted between Shang Qinghua and Shen Qingqiu, a smile spreading on her face.
Shen Qingqiu's slowly turning cog wheels finally realizes what he just said and the people he just said it in front of. Shang Qinghua made a slight wheezing sound.
Yue Qingyuan set down his own teacup, smiling pleasantly. "Shang-shidi's bed?"
"His guest bed!" Shen Qingqiu nearly yells. "I meant to say his guest bed, obviously that's where I sleep when I stay over, where else would I sleep, of course! I sleep in the bed that is not his!"
Shang Qinghua begins to nod his head frantically. "Yes, yes, he sleeps in my guest bed." Noticing the still dangerous glint in Yue Qingyuan's eyes, he begins to wave his hands around as if trying to stave off his impending doom. "N-not that Shen Qingqiu sleeps over often, or anything, ahahaha! It's just a spare bed that I happen to have--"
"I see," Yue Qingyuan interrupts, still smiling. Never before has Shang Qinghua feared for his life like this. He continues cheerfully, "Thank you for the clarification. Why don't we get this meeting started."
2. Robe Mix-Up
Shit! Shen Qingqiu had completely forgotten that he had to teach a morning class and was running late. He might have had too much fun last night reading trashy novels and bitching about them with Shang Qinghua, only to forget his responsibilities to his students. Upon waking and realizing the sun was already up, he nearly shoved Shang Qinghua off the bed trying to get up.
In his hurry to look presentable and still arrive on time, Shen Qingqiu grabbed the nearest outer robe that he could find and slipped it on, while simultaneously trying to fix his hair. Shang Qinghua, the traitor, simply rolled over and muttered something in his sleep, despite the chaos. He rolled his eyes at his best friend, despite the other not being awake to see it.
Finally ready, Shen Qingqiu rushes out of his bamboo house and starts to speed-walk, doing his best to still look majestic and peak lord-like, and not like he was running late to his own class. In his hurry, he doesn't notice the wide-eyed looks he was garnering from the older disciples he passed.
It was only when he steps into the classroom, and the previously hushed whispers and laughter of the teens fall dead silent, that he notices that something is wrong. They all stare at him.
"Good morning, everyone," Shen Qingqiu says pleasantly. No response. What, did he have something on his face or something?? He discreetly wiped at his cheeks, wondering what they were looking at. "Did something happen?"
"Shizun... isn't that...?" Ming Fan hesitantly spoke up, eyeing the blue robes that his teacher was wearing.
Shen Qingqiu followed his disciple's line of sight and looked down.
Ah. An Ding Peak Lord Blue. He must have accidentally grabbed Shang Qinghua's robes when getting dressed this morning.
Wait.
Fuck.
Shen Qingqiu can feel his face freeze.
Another brave disciple spoke up. "A-are those Shang-shishu's--"
"No," Shen Qingqiu says. His eye began to switch.
"But--"
"I said no."
Unfortunately for him, word spread fast, and by midday meal, there were people whispering about the fact that Shen Qingqiu had left his residence wearing Shang Qinghua's robes.
Shang Qinghua tsk'd at him from over the tea table they were taking their lunch at on An Ding Peak. "You just had to take my robe, huh? If you wanted to wear my clothes so bad, you could have just asked." An Ding disciples gawked at them on their way to do errands. One walked into a wooden post.
Shen Qingqiu glared at him, ears still burning red from embarrassment. "Shut up, Qinghua."

Misunderstandings really really suck Pt.2
Edit: Part 1 link since it took me all day to find it again
Damian had a Rival.
Scratch that, Damian had a Nemesis in the form of a girl in his class by the name of Danielle Nightingale. Although she insisted she be called "Ellie" instead.
The trouble started on the first day of classes. Damain had just arrived at the Manor recently, and unfortunately his father had decided that he needed to go to School in order to keep up a Civilian charade. So, he had been sent to Gotham Metro Academy, a rather prestigious school that he could not give less of a fuck about. Why would he willingly subject himself to the borderline preschool teachings of a Civilian school when the League had taught him everything he needed to know years ago? Of course, that was his attitude before he met her.
Danielle was in the seat right next to him for most of his classes, and at first they had not interacted all that much. She had attempted a friendly greeting at first, but Damian had quickly shut her down in a rather rude way.
It wasn't until the next time they took a Science Test together that they really regarded one another. It was supposed to be a test to see where their education level was, but Damian had decided he would Ace the test and move onto some more interesting stuff.
He finished his test within a few minutes and got up to turn it in, at the same time Danielle did. He looked over at her and saw that she was just as surprised to see him getting up. Later on, they learned that they were the top 2 scorers in the class by a wide margin. Danielle had gotten a 100%, while Damian had gotten a 99%. She gave him a smug Smirk, and that was when he decided that he would best her no matter the cost.
From there they made every class a contest. Always on opposite sides for PE, always competing for the best scores on Tests, they even made getting to the cafeteria a race.
Damain found that he genuinely enjoyed competing with her, since she was the only one who could keep up. And they could never decide on a good winner. Danielle always beat him in Science Classes, but Damian was the better in the Math Classes, and somehow they always tied in PE no matter the sport they played.
And after a while, they began to talk with eachother about stuff aside from their little contests. He learned that she was going to the school on a Scholarship, which was why she always tried her best to excel in exams. He learned that her older brother owned a small Shop a few blocks from Park Row, which he used to provide for the both of them to live comfortably. He also learned that he enjoyed his conversations with her as much as he enjoyed competing with her, it was genuinely fun to just sit down and talk to her once in a while.
He finally decided that they had grown from Rivalry to full on Friendship about halfway through their first year of school together. He had found her backed into a corner by some snobby rich kids who didn't like that a "street rat" was getting better grades than them so often. To her credit, she was holding back her emotions much better than he would have.
When he tried to help her, they turned on him. They began mocking his status as a bastard child, calling his mother many horrible names, and even began to make racist remarks about his Arabic heritage. He didn't even get the chance to retort before one of the kids was on his back clutching his broken nose, Ellie standing next to him with her arm extended. The other one soon followed, this time by Damian's hand.
Of course the incident got them both detention, but from then on he knew she was his friend.
...
Damian began noticing something was off about Ellie about 1 year after meeting her. Her 12th birthday had just passed, and the new school year was just beginning, and for some reason she was much competitive than usual. She didn't seem to think he had noticed, but she hadn't tried this hard to beat him since they had first met. She wasn't talking to him as much, distancing her self more and more as the weeks went on.
It finally came to ahead during a game of Dodgeball in their PE class. She had been competing with him relentlessly, but even then she wasn't preforming up to her usual level. He could see she was tired, exhausted even, from such a simple exercise, sweat pouring from her skin in buckets. Which didn't make any sense, since he had seen her do much more intense things without breaking a sweat.
He also knew that she was a Metahuman, and therefore had more stamina than a normal person. (She had told him over the summer, after deciding that she trusted him with her biggest secret)
Before the game had even ended, he was asking her to just tell him what was wrong. She denied that anything was wrong, right up until she collapsed in the middle of the game, unconscious.
He had immediately rushed her to the Nurses Office, where she finally opened up about what had been disturbing her so much recently.
She was dying.
She had a genetic disease, linked back to her Meta-Human abilities, that was slowly killing her. And they were running out of the medication needed to treat it.
She took out what looked like an Epi-Pen and injected herself with the medication inside. Damain could instantly see the color come back to her skin, her muscles got less tense, and her breath became more steady.
"That was one of our remaining Doses", she explained, "This dose will last me about a month. We have enough left to last until December, but after that there won't be anymore left. It was only ever produced by a single pair of scientists out of state, and they died in a car accident a few years ago."
Damian is extremely worried, his best friend is dying and he doesn't know how to help. He tried to offer his dad's help, but she refuses.
"I'm a Metahuman, if a person as high profile as your dad stepped in to help, it would draw attention to me. And Gotham is way to dangerous for a known Metahuman to live, especially a 12 yr old one." She says, "And besides, my brother says he's working on replicating it. I trust him, and he's been researching it relentlessly."
It takes a while, but Damian agrees to let her take care of this.
Over the next few months, Damian and Ellie act as if everything is normal. From time to time they will talk about it, but they largely try to ignore it for the most part.
Sometimes Ellie will joke about it though.
"At my Funeral, make sure they don't lie. I was a fucking Goddess of Chaos and I won't have them defiling my name by spouting out that whole 'heaven has another angel' bullcrap."
"In my Will, I'm gonna set up a whole Indiana Jones Style Quest for you to follow before you can claim anything of mine. You gotta work for it."
"Don't worry, I won't haunt you after I die. I'll be too busy conquering the Afterlife to manage anything like that!"
"At my Funeral, I want you to make a speech that's just 'this is so sad. Alexa play despacito'. Nothing else, just that."
It goes on like this for months, and both of them have mostly accepted that their time together has a potential time limit, so they try to make the most out of it.
Damian even forces her to formally introduce her brother, an older guy named Danny, who is very enthusiastic to meet him. Apparently Ellie had trouble making friends in her last school, and he was just so happy she had found such a good friend in the last year.
They even invited him to visit whenever he wanted. Sometimes he would even stay the night, sleeping in Danny's room while Danny took the couch.
He even found the Lab, or makeshift lab, that Danny had made to try and find a way to replicate the Medicine for Ellie. Damian had to admit, Danny was a certified Genius, and he had Hope that Danny would find a way to save Ellie soon.
He asks for an explanation on the Medicine, and Danny explains it as "Ellie's powers draw on a type energy called Ecto, which helps keep her body stable. Unfortunately, she has a birth defect that means she can't absorb it faster than she uses it up naturally. What the Medicine does is bolster the amount she already has in her system to make it more potent and last longer."
He even shows Damian his notes, and at his insisting he begins teaching Damian about Ectoplasm and the science behind it all.
Damian begins coming over on the weekends to hang out with Ellie and check up on the progress of the Medicine. He tells the rest of his family that he just wants to get a little more comfortable in his Civilian Life, and is indulging in his urge to actually be a kid. (They still don't know about Ellie's situation, cause she asked him not to tell anyone.)
...
A few months later, Jason comes back from patrol and informs the rest of the team that he just found a Scienist creating a Super Soldier Serum in the middle of Gotham.
Unfortunately, Damian was staying over at Ellie's house for the weekend, and didn't get the memo.

Hello I have a question everyone is going on about Hua Cheng hating Feng Xin despite being loyal to Xie Lian. What do you think of the reason Hua Cheng hatred towards Feng Xin?
Hey Anon! thank you for your question, I'll do my best to answer it :)
First of all, I think it's important to keep in mind that Hua Cheng has reasons to hate Feng Xin outside of his treatment of Xie Lian. Though out of the two, Mu Qing treated Hong Hong-er the worst - arguing that a visibly starved and abused child was lying about having no one caring for him and then later kicking him out of the army out of jealousy - Feng Xin really wasn't much better:
The young child shook his head, but Mu Qing said, “There must be. If he doesn't go back, his family will surely be worried sick looking for him.”
“No, no way! There's nobody!” that young child cried, sounding like he was afraid to be sent back, and he opened his arms reaching for Xie Lian. He was still covered with mud and blood, and Feng Xin couldn't stand it anymore.
“What're ya doin’, kid? Things were urgent earlier, so whatever, but shouldn't you know better by now? This is the crown prince. His Highness the Crown Prince. Do you understand?”
That young child's arms immediately shrank back, but he was still gazing at Xie Lian.
Vol 2, page 362
We see this treatment of Hua Cheng continue all the way to the reveal in Mount Tonglu's caves: because of what Hua Cheng is - a beggar child, a ghost king - he shouldn't be near Xie Lian - a crown prince, a god - and his adoration for Xie Lian and desire to be near him is openly treated by Feng Xin as inappropriate and disgusting, as something Xie Lian needs to be “protected” from at all cost - if Xie Lian wants to or not.
After walking for a while, Feng Xin spoke up. “No. I still don't think Your Highness should hold a strange child for everyone to see.”
“What's the problem?” Xie Lian asked.
“You're the crown prince!” Feng Xin exclaimed. While he spoke, he saw a worn-down handcart further up the alley and said, “Put the kid in the cart and pull it.”
Mu Qing immediately voiced, “Just so we're clear, I will not pull that thing up the mountain.”
”No one's asking you to,” Feng Xin said. He reached out and yanked the child from Xie Lian's arms, and the child started struggling again.
Vol 2, page 364
Because Xie Lian is nobility, in Feng Xin's eyes he shouldn't be seen carrying a child of the lowest class. Keep in mind that it was Xie Lian's own decision to carry Hong Hong-er himself and that the child had repeatedly made clear it didn't want to be carried by anyone else. But Feng Xin still takes Hong Hong-er away from Xie Lian, the only person that the child feels safe with and is being treated well by. Not to mention that he's yanking a child around that he knows has recently been brutally beaten, with no apparent care for its injuries.
Once Mei Nianqing divines Hong-er's fate, Feng Xin treats him like everyone else does except for Xie Lian - as if he's not a human being but some kind of dangerous monster that Xie Lian shouldn't even touch:
The Deputy State Preceptors blocked Hong Hong-er, and the State Preceptor backed away, yelling, “Make him leave the mountain, hurry! Don't touch him, I mean it! That fortune is too toxic; don't touch him!” The Deputy State Preceptors hurriedly moved aside, and Mu Qing and Feng Xin didn't know whether to act.
Seeing that everyone was avoiding him like he was poisonous vermin, the child was shaken and started thrashing even harder, biting and screaming with all his might. “I'm not! I'm not!! I'M NOT!!!”
Suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped around his waist, encircling his small form. A voice came from above his head. “You're not. I know you're not. Don't cry, now. I know you're not.”
[...] A while later, the State Preceptor said, “I mean it. It's best if you let go.”
Feng Xin finally came to his senses and exclaimed, “Your Highness! Let go! Be careful of…”
Vol 2 page 380+ 382
So what we've established is that Feng Xin treated Hong Hong-er at best like a nuisance that Xie Lian shouldn't be seen caring for because of the class differences, and some kind of dangerous inhuman thing at worst. Now, since that was the way everyone but Xie Lian was treating him back then, I actually don't think it would stand out to Hua Cheng that much - but what would stand out to him was that Feng Xin, just like Mu Qing, repeatedly tried to separate him from Xie Lian, both through words and through actions, and that he went against Xie Lian's wishes in doing so.
Now we can tackle the other part of your question, Hua Cheng hating Feng Xin despite his being loyal to Xie Lian. And I think to answer it fully, we must first ask ourselves - was he loyal?
It's true that Feng Xin stayed with Xie Lian longer than Mu Qing did after the banishment, but his choices during that time tell their own story:
“Actually, it's… Your Highness, do you still have any money on you? Or something that can be pawned?”
Xie Lian was perplexed that he'd ask such a foolish question at a time like this. “Huh? Why do you ask?”
Feng Xin was sweating, but he replied boldly, “It's nothing… Just… If you happen to have some, can you… lend it to me?”
Xie Lian laughed bitterly. “Do you really think I have anything?”
Feng Xin sighed. “I didn't think so.”
After giving it some thought, Xie Lian asked, “Didn't I give you that golden belt?”
“That's not enough,” Feng Xin mumbled. “Far from it…”
Xie Lian was shocked. “Feng Xin? What exactly did you do? How could a golden belt not be enough to cover what you need? Did you beat someone up and need to pay them off? Tell me?”
Feng Xin came back to himself and quickly said, “Oh no! Don't take this to heart. I was only asking!”
Xie Lian pressed him over and over, but Feng Xin still swore everything was fine. Finally, Xie Lian said with worry, “Well, if there's anything, you must tell me. We can think of a solution together.”
“Don't worry about me,” Feng Xin said. “There's no way a solution will just fall from the sky. Your Highness, you just focus on solving your own problems.”
Vol 6, page 219
While superficially this might look like Feng Xin is trying not to burden Xie Lian with his problems, when we look at the actual context we realize that that's not why he is lying about what's going on. This is set during the time where they're barely managing to scrape enough food together not to starve, and are struggling to make enough money to buy medicine for Xie Lian's sick father. And Feng Xin knows this, knows that anything of value should go towards their continued survival - that's why he rejects Xie Lian's repeated offers of help and lies to him about there being no particular reason he's asking for money. Is that loyalty?
Soon after, he heard the Queen sigh. “If this keeps up, how will my son ever get better?”
Xie Lian could feel something amiss with those words, and Feng Xin replied in a quiet voice. “He's only like this because he's exhausted. Too much has happened lately. Will Your Majesties also keep a close eye on him? Please let me know as soon as possible if there's anything not right with His Highness, but don't tell him you did. Also avoid saying anything that might provoke him-”
Vol 6, page 220-221
Feng Xin told Xie Lian he believed him when he said that Bai WuXiang was back and was stalking him, but behind his back, it's a different story. Not only does he doubt Xie Lian’s grip on reality and his own mind, he urges Xie Lian's parents to also keep up the pretense and then report to Feng Xin behind Xie Lian's back. Is that loyalty?
And we need to keep in mind that this isn't a one time deal but a pattern of behavior that keeps repeating. Feng Xin keeps treating Xie Lian as too naive to be trusted to make his own choices, hence his trying to keep Xie Lian from caring for Hong Hong-er, trying to “manage” Xie Lian like an unruly child, and then all the way to conspiring with Mu Qing to kidnap Xie Lian away from Hua Cheng no matter what Xie Lian wants because they think they know better.
Xie Lian knelt by the stream and puked his guts out for over an hour, heaving until blood came up. After descending the mountain, he walked through the city for a long time, aimlessly wandering the main streets without a destination in mind. Suddenly, a hand gripped his shoulder and yanked him into an alley. Xie Lian looked around and saw an incoming fist before he even glimpsed the other's face.
“Where did you run off to for so long?!” Behind the fist was Feng Xin's furious expression, but by the time Xie Lian saw, he'd already been knocked to the ground by the punch. Feng Xin hadn't expected to knock him down so easily. Confused, he looked at his own fist, then at Xie Lian on the ground. Before he could think to help him up, Xie Lian had already crawled back up by himself.
Feng Xin's face changed, but in the end, his temper was still flaring. “You've got such an attitude! Dropping only a word before running away and disappearing for two months! Do you know how worried Their Majesties have been?!”
Vol 6, page 263
This is after Xie Lian ran away when he found out Feng Xin didn't believe him and was then lured to the abandoned temple by Bai WuXiang and severely tortured and violated. He was obviously not alright when he left and just from the fact that he disappeared for that long it should be obvious that something is seriously wrong - yet Feng Xin doesn't care about finding out, he's so angry at the way Xie Lian is “failing” to be the perfect image he's made up in his head that the moment he sees him again, he punches him in the face. Is that loyalty?
“Why are you being like this? When did you become this way?” Feng Xin mumbled. “I… I really don't know… I'm… Why did I follow you all this time - ?”
“Then stop following,” Xie Lian said.
Feng Xin couldn't wrap his head around that. “What?”
“I said, don't follow me anymore,” Xie Lian repeated. Then he slammed the door.
Four hours later, there was finally some rustling outside the room and low voices speaking. It seemed Feng Xin was bidding farewell to Xie Lian's mother and father. Feng Xin's voice was extremely low, the queen's voice was choked with sobs, and the king didn't say much, but there was a lot of coughing. The door opened a moment later, then closed. Feng Xin's voice vanished, and the sound of his footsteps grew more and more distant. Feng Xin had left.
[...] Before Feng Xin had left, Xie Lian had been afraid. Now that Feng Xin was gone, he wasn't scared anymore. But even though he no longer felt fear, he felt a deeper agony. Xie Lian had initially held a one-in-a-million bit of hope at the bottom of his heart. He'd hoped that Feng Xin would still stay even if Xie Lian admitted he had done things he shouldn't have, even if he became the worst version of himself. After all, the two had never left each other's side since he turned fourteen and Feng Xin was selected to be his personal attendant. They were master and servant, but more than that, they were friends. And Feng Xin had no one to care for aside from the crown prince either - or, at most, him, and the king and queen. But Feng Xin had really left.
Vol 6, page 273-274
And finally, as Xie Lian begins to crack under the weight of his trauma, Feng Xin leaves. Is that loyalty? Or, more precisely, we have to ask ourselves - who was it that Feng Xin used to be loyal to? Because from what we've seen, it was less Xie Lian the person and more the perfect image of a crown prince and a god Feng Xin wanted and repeatedly tried to force Xie Lian to be - a crown prince who doesn't behave inappropriately by carrying beggar children, who doesn't go against the orders of his Shifu, a perfect god who never falters and doesn't show mental or physical strain no matter what he goes through.
Xie Lian stopped eating and said gently, “But I can sort of understand… your feelings.” After a pause, he continued, “There was a period in my own life that wasn't easy. Back then, I'd always think about how wonderful it would be if someone could still love me for who I was, even if they saw me rolling in the dirt and couldn't get up. Though I don't know if there's anyone out there like that. And I'm scared of showing that part of myself too. But if it's someone San Lang yearns for… I think that even if they saw you at your worst, they wouldn't say something like, ‘ah, you're not so great after all'”.
His face grew solemn. “To me, the one basking in infinite glory is you; the one fallen from grace is also you. What matters is you, not the state of you. [...]”
Vol 4, page 182
This is why ‘what matters is you, not the state of you” is the foundation of Xie Lian and Hua Cheng’s love - they love each other for who the other is, not who they could be or should be by any given standard.
Now, someone might say this is all well and good but Hua Cheng wasn't present for the above scenes with Feng Xin and Xie Lian, so those can't be reasons for him to hate Feng Xin. To which I would say, 1. the above examination was about questioning whether Feng Xin really was as loyal to Xie Lian as that discourse seems to insist by looking at what the text actually tells us. And 2., Hua Cheng did encounter Xie Lian several times during his first banishment. And every single time, Xie Lian was alone, in increasingly bad mental and physical states, with no one helping or caring for him.
The first time they meet again, after Mu Qing has just left Xie Lian and Hua Cheng is a ghost fire:
“I won't forget. Your Highness, I am forever your most devoted believer.”
Xie Lian forced down a sob. “...I've already lost all my believers. Believing in me won't do you any good; it might even bring disaster. Did you know? Even my friend has left me.”
The nameless ghost declared as if swearing an oath, “I won't.”
“You will,” Xie Lian said.
The ghost was insistent. “Believe me, Your Highness.”
“I don't,” Xie Lian said. He no longer believed in anyone, especially himself.
Vol 6, page 136-137
After the failed robbery attempt, when Xie Lian gets drunk and falls into a grave:
“God fucking dammit!” He slapped the ground and yelled, “Is anyone there? Is there anyone who can help pull me out?!”
Of course there wasn't anyone. There was only a small ball of haunting ghost fire, blazing unceasingly as it flitted about. After Xie Lian fell into the pit, the ball of ghost fire rushed over, seeming to want to pull him up - but it would never be able to touch him.
Vol 6, page 175
When the group of heavenly officials and Mu Qing drive Xie Lian off the blessed land and Hua Cheng can't help him because he's still a ghost fire:
Xie Lian lay sprawled face-down on the ground in a state of disbelief, his eyes bulging. One of the heavenly officials had shoved him while he was standing there at a loss and made him take that hideous fall in front of so many eyes. It was too humiliating. There were voices all around Xie Lian, high and low, filling the air and invading Xie Lian's ears. He stared with eyes that couldn't be wider at the blackened ground in front of his nose, then he slowly raised his head.
Mu Qing was standing not too far away from him - standing among those heavenly officials, his head turned away, not looking at Xie Lian. Just like the rest of them, he had no intention of lending Xie Lian a hand to help him up. And thus, Xie Lian understood. No one would lend him a hand to help him up.
Vol 6, page 196
When Xie Lian is brutally tortured and violated by being stabbed over and over:
Unwilling to consider this any further, Xie Lian couldn't help but cry out. “Hel-”
Before the phrase “Help me” could leave his throat, the same icy black belt was thrust into his body once again. Xie Lian's eyes widened in horror. The razor-sharp sword was stabbed in, then pulled out. The next person followed without wasting a second, and the next stab was shoved into practically the same spot. The sound locked in Xie Lian's throat finally broke free, and a long, painful scream tore through his entire body.
Vol 6, page 255
And it doesn't stop there - Feng Xin and Mu Qing both ascend again while Xie Lian is lost in the mortal realm, and Hua Cheng is the only one looking for him. That Feng Xin spent so much time in the mortal realm because he was searching for Xie Lian appears to be entirely fanon, as I cannot recall a single instance where the text actually suggests this. And then when Xie Lian ascends for a third time, Feng Xin and Mu Qing are too cowardly to face him, and only seek him out in disguise. And again, they repeatedly try to separate Hua Cheng from Xie Lian:
After a moment, Feng Xin turned to Xie Lian. “If there's nothing else, you’d better hurry back to the Heavenly Court. Many of the heavenly officials have no idea what happened in that ruckus, and they're still waiting for news above. Jun Wu should have been informed by now. You need to report back and give them a proper account.”
Hua Cheng laughed out loud at his words.
“What're you laughing at?” Feng Xin demanded.
“And here I was marveling at how straightforward you are, but it turns out you like beating around the bush too,” Hua Cheng said. “You just don't want His Highness to associate with the likes of demons and ghosts like me, so why not say so openly? Think it's not your place?”
Xie Lian cleared his throat softly. “San Lang…”
“As long as you're aware that he shouldn't be associating with the likes of demons and ghosts,” Feng Xin said coldly.
Vol 2, page 261-262
So, to sum up, when we look at all this from Hua Cheng's perspective - why wouldn't he hate Feng Xin? He's had zero positive interactions with the man, repeatedly witnessed him going against Xie Lian's wishes, and had Feng Xin try and separate him from Xie Lian over and over again. From Hua Cheng's perspective, Feng Xin abandoned Xie Lian to his suffering and forgot about him, while Hua Cheng never wavered in his faith, and didn't give up on looking for Xie Lian even after hundreds of years.
Throughout the entire novel, Hua Cheng is the only one who consistently respects Xie Lian's autonomy - the only times he ever intervenes is when Xie Lian is about to do something that threatens his own physical and/or mental wellbeing. Many other characters, Feng Xin included, repeatedly ignore or even violate Xie Lian's autonomy and the novel makes quite clear how important and profound the distinction is between how Hua Cheng treats Xie Lian and how everyone else does:
Feng Xin glanced at him and couldn't help but say, “...I'm a little surprised.”
“What?” Hua Cheng replied, not turning or showing a single trace of curiosity.
Feng Xin scratched his head. “Since you're so biased against Mu Qing, I assumed you'd think he wasn't worth saving and wouldn't want His Highness rescuing him. I thought you'd prevent him from going.”
Only then did Hua Cheng spare him a glance. “Half-wrong, half-right.”
“Huh?”
“The first part isn't wrong - I certainly don't think he's worth saving,” Hua Cheng said. “I don't care if he lives or dies.”
“Isn't that a little too blunt?!” Seeing that apathetic expression made Feng Xin start to sweat; when he realized that this man definitely held the same attitude toward him, he sweat even harder!
Hua Cheng snorted, then after a pause, he added, “But only His Highness can decide what he wants to do. I will never oppose his decisions.”
“...” Feng Xin had never heard anyone say something like that before - not a man to a woman, and most definitely not one man to another. But he was quite sure that Xie Lian would only get all worked up and flustered again if he'd been here to hear it. “Ah… I see,” Feng Xin said, not knowing what face to make.
Vol 8, page 44-45
And just to make this clear - this is not me hating on Feng Xin. We also could probably all have lengthy but ultimately futile discussions on what loyalty personally means to each and every one of us, which is why when it comes to discourse like this I think we have to focus on what the text says. And I think through this examination it's become quite clear where the limits of Feng Xin's loyalty lay in relation to how it was tied less to Xie Lian the person and more to who he thought Xie Lian should be, and how even beyond Feng Xin's ultimate lack of loyalty Hua Cheng has many legitimate reasons to hate him in regards to how both he himself and Xie Lian were treated by Feng Xin.
Hope this answered your question!

"Hot Take: Rhaenyra Ascending the Throne Wouldn't Make Life Better for Women
One thing I always debate with many Black fans is the notion that Rhaenyra becoming Queen would therefore help improve life for women in Westeros. I just saw a post online claiming if Rhaenyra had ascended peacefully the life of Targaryen women after her wouldn't have been so bad. Examples cited included Naerys not being forced to marry her brother for example, or that there would be more Queen Alysannes or Queen Visenyas who fought or passed laws. Therefore by taking the throne, the Greens are then directly responsible for the misery of every woman after the Dance. I can understand where they're coming from I mean Rhaenyra is a woman who is well aware of the issues facing her on the basis of her sex in Westeros. Naturally, one would believe she would be inclined to help fellow women out. Rhaenyra in the show is pretty white-washed at times, so naturally she appears far more virtuous than she actually was. The women in general in the show are portrayed as far-more peace-loving and competent than the men, which is disegenous in itself.
However, I am of the belief that even if Rhaenyra ascended peacefully and didn't get any backlash for her actions or her faction's actions (ex- B&C, suicide of Helaena, taxation of the smallfolk, knight inquistors executing supposed traitors, violating guest right to attempt to assasinate Nettles, arresting Corlys Velaryon, torturing Tyland Lannister, etc.), Rhaenyra wouldn't have been able to really deeply improve the lives of women in Westeros and life wouldn't have been so so much better. Here are my reasons why, and feel free to join the conversation.
1. Societal and Major structural change is slow.
Ultimately, this is a medieval world based in medieval values and belief systems. These systems include women being second-class citizens and beholden to men. I mean look at our world! It took thousands and centuries for women to get to where we are today. Life for women in medieval societies are sad and oppressive, hence the way most women gained power and agency was relying on their relationship to other men. I remember a line from the dubious Tudor film The Other Boleyn Girl where Elizabeth Boleyn stated that essentially the way to get power isn't by stamping your little feet, but allowing the men to believe they are indeed in charge. That is the epitome of how most women got their power in medieval societies, very few could claim power in their own name without relying on men to a large degree.
Ultimately, what I've come to learn from studying history is societal change is slow and it takes a long long time for real structural change and equality to occur. Just look at how long it took for women's rights to take flight in the West. There were always whispers throughout history, but it took so long for the whispers to become crowds of shouting, using a metaphor here. Look how long it took for slavery as a whole to be outlawed. It takes a long time for morals and beliefs deeply ingrined in societies like normalizing slavery or women being less than men to change. Rhaenyra becoming Queen wouldn't leave her without enemies. People would still doubt her, undermine her, view her as less than. Rhaenyra becoming Queen wouldn't have been so much of a "Look women can do it too!" moment as one would hope. She isn't an absolute monarch so it would be harder for her to implement societal changes, especially when she is inheriting a country after a war or major tensions. It's about pulling the realm together. Rhaenyra could inspire more changes in the future but no major changes or improvements would happen in her lifetime.
2. Rhaenyra Isn't Always "for the women" she takes plenty of advantage of male primogeniture and patriarchal oppression
Because of how much they changed in the show, naturally Rhaenyra appears far more virtusous or "for the women" than she actually was. A book-accurate Rhaenyra wasn't pursuing the throne to prove a point to men or actually create societal change, but rather out of her own ambition and belief to be the rightful heir. She wasn't fighting for women's rights to inherit but rather HER right to inherit.
The lords supporting her weren't trying to put their daughters ahead of their sons. The lords supporting her were still plenty sexist in a way, they chose her because they either detested Aegon and the Greens, still felt some obligation towards vows made by order of King Viserys, etc. They were still putting their first-born sons ahead of daughters they may have had before then.
Even so, Rhaenyra herself isn't a feminist. She in the books especially takes advantage of patriarchal rulings and male primogeniture as well. Laena Velaryon is older than Laenor Velaryon by I think 2 years or so. By Rhaenyra's logic and the logic of the Blacks who believe in her shouldn't then Baela being the eldest of her children get Driftmark. Laena was older than Laenor yet she wasn't set to inherit Driftmark once Laenor was born. she was excluded. As Laena was the eldest, shouldn't her daughters be set to inherit Driftmark. Maybe not Baela as she is bethrothed to Jace to become Queen should Jace inherit, but then how come Rhaena was only set to be Luke's consort versus Lady of Driftmark in her own right? Because of male primogeniture. Rhaenyra was taking advantage of male primogeniture to name her (bastard) son of Laenor Luke as the next Lord of Driftmark rather than Rhaena who has a stronger claim using the same logic.
Rhaenyra as well denied inheritence claims for Lady Stokeworth and Lady Rosby. That being said its not out of the question that Rhaenyra can't take advantage of patriarchal rulings, as plenty of medieval women in real life and in Westeros do so, but don't ignore that.
3. Isn't it disengenous to expect one woman in a position of power to be responsible for "unappressing" fellow women
I wrote about this topic a while back so let me just quote myself from a previous post on Feminism in Westerso:
"To me, it’s disingenuous to believe one member of an oppressed group (women in this case) in a dubious position of power, whether it’s Rhaenyra or Alicent, is therefore solely responsible for finding a way to free the oppressive group within the system and the ultimate key to social change and if they don’t actively try to do so or fail to do so they are horrible people. It’s more complicated than that. It takes more time than that and it takes more than one single person in a position of power. It’s a gradual change. When living as a marginalized person (despite being in high positions of power Alicent and Rhaenyra are still oppressed) in a system that is oppressive and built against you, it takes more than just you to make social change. Society in Westeros and in the real world resists change. It takes more to make significant social reforms. It takes a lot of time and patience and it takes an effort that spans more than your lifetime and even that of your great great great great great grandchildren"
I think this states it all when I wrote this. Despite being in a high position of power, how much change could Rhaenyra truly inspire or implement in the present and the future, especially since the oppression of women goes so deeply structurally? It will take more than just her becoming Queen, it will have to continue after her, and can we really guarantee any of her descendants will advocate for women?
4. Women were Oppressed Even Before Rhaenyra, citing Visenya and Alysanne doesn't count, the Targaryen/Valyria society is oppressive as well.
The post I found cited Visenya and Alysanne as examples of strong women but I think failed to realize they too were oppressed and downgraded by men, so this issue of structural oppression of women goes far deeper than one could acknolwedge. THe Targaryen family isn't as progressive as one may want them to be. Values of Old Valyria aren't exactly helpful for women at times. I mean a man in Valyria could have as many women as he wanted, but women couldn't do the same. Visenya herself was older than Aegon, but was denied inheritence of Dragonstone and couldn't be Queen in her own right and rather had to settle as being Aegon's consort. Alysanne herself was denied by Jaehaerys at times and part of why she was so respected was based not just in her intelligence but how much Jaehaerys respected her, but even so she coudldn't implement as many of the changes she could want. Ultimately her value as a Queen was deeply tied to her fertility. If she wasn't able to have so many children, the opinion of her and respect of her in Westeros would be impacted and her marriage to Jaehaerys strained. Of course, one could cite the relationship of Aemma and Viserys, but even then... still.
I mean, the show failed to mention too that the succession crisis with Jaehaerys wasn't even fully about Viserys vs. Rhaenys. It was really more so about Viserys versus Rhaenys's son Laenor. At the later point, after Rhaenys was rejected, Corlys and supporters advocated on the behalf of the young Laenor.
5. Rhaenyra Isn't the Best Example
Ultimately, yes Martin is commenting in the Dance how flawed feudal systems and medieval politics are---people are excluded from leadership or the lines of succession on characeristics out of their control like their sex or their parentage, however, even so if Rhaenyra was being rejected on the basis of being a woman, that is not the full answer as to why she wasn't considered a good candidate by others. I mean 1/3 of the country supported Aegon. Yes, Rhaenyra being a woman ties into why many did not support her, but there were other reasons why that were just as important.
For one thing, Rhaenyra was siring obvious bastards and defying another tradition that turned so many lords and ladies alike. Rhaenyra having bastards is a bigger issue than the show fails to realize and emphasize, especially since they portrayed them as so obviously bastards versus the book which is slightly more subtle. Bastards were believed to be born in lust and decietful by nature. Even Jace knows deep down his reputation and position as a future King will be deeply impacted by his parentage. Having bastards was a huge scandal. She also married a man who was denied inheritence, the man whom she stepped over to become Viserys's heir because he was deemed too dangerous. There were other examples besides misogny as to why Rhaenyra was deemed not a good choice by some.
Ultimately, she wasn't even the main being fighting for her rights. I liked book-Rhaenyra and i found her character very compelling, but even I as a Green who liked book-Rhaenyra (just not as much as I liked Aegon) acknolwedge she wasn't a warrior queen fighting for her rights, a good chunk of the work was done for her because she was grieving her children. Daemon, Jace, Corlys, so much heavy-time work was done for her. Rhaenyra never dragon battles the way Aegon does (foolish as it seems).
Which is why I felt the season 2 did poorly because this was the chance for Jace as her heir and Corlys to shine and show their leadership skills and political intrigue, because Rhaenyra is supposed to be swimming in her grief. There is a way to give her more agency whilst still highlighting that her grief deeply impacted the way she operated and how she lead her faction.
That being said, just because Rhaenyra isn't a feminist who will help foster the change needed to help women in Westeros have more rights doesn't mean you can't root for her."
