Requested: Idk if this would be better suited for a preference or HCs but can i request Y/N being the covert caregiver or “mother hen” of the Thunderbolts? Not in an obvious way like nagging them to improve their habits but more like… wordlessly fixing problems and making their lives a little easier. Like they’re about to leave for a mission and find someone has restocked their utility belt full of first aid supplies. Or Y/N noticed everybody squinting and rubbing their eyes at the bright ass fluorescent lights Val installed and spends their day off replacing them with ones that won’t give everybody migraines. Texting the groupchat like “meeting at 6, everybody to the living room for debrief” and they show up to find a debrief… and lasagna. Like they’re not trying to baby the team or anything just quietly being considerate. Bonus points if any attempt to thank them directly ends up like “don’t mention it. Literally. I will Instantly Die if you mention this again.” - @mywinterivy

You do it both because you love it, that's how you take care of the people you love, but also because they need it. This team is riddled with issues and trauma and grief. Someone needs to look after all of you and it definitely not going to be Valentina

You don't even really mean to at first. What you do, it just comes naturally, without a second thought. You don't think anything of it

Polishing John's shield when it looks worn and a little lackluster

You sharpen Bucky's knives after you hear him talk about how dull they were getting. You were already doing yours, and you had the time, so why not help him out? It was the least you could do

Not just their weapons, like adding more bullets to Ava's belt and making sure her guns were all loaded, but also things around the tower and helping out psychologically

You made dinner every Sunday where they'd all have to sit around the table and talk to each other and eat a decent meal for once in their lives. If you had a mission or a meeting, a group text would be sent out about rescheduling. They learned eventually there were so few excuses actually taken seriously for missing "family dinner". Someone them even liked it, like Yelena and Alexei, who never missed and even offered to help out around the kitchen

"What are we having tonight?"

"Lasagna."

"Do you have my hot sauce?"

"Of course."

Doing the food shopping for the team and coming with a long list of different dietary restrictions. Yelena had a problem of only having snacks on her list, like candy and popcorn, instead of meals. John needed a specific number of protein drinks and supplements, otherwise his whole routine would go awry. Alexei always had more vodka and booze than anything else and you'd always put a cap on how much he actually got. It didn't matter that he has super serum in him, drinking that much wasn't good for anyone

You always come home with something special like a sweet treat or new coffee for everyone to try. You love how excited they all get trying to find their items as they unpack the bags. In these moments, you definitely feel more like a parent than a teammate

"Where is the rest of my vodka?"

"They ran out. Mhm, yeah, some kind of shortage. . . "

You're always there with a mug of tea and a blanket for when they need someone to talk to. At first it was just Bob who spoke lightly about how he's been feeling. Not just his moods, which are all-encompassing and need immediate attention, but also side effects of his meds and his cravings to go back to the drugs. How much easier it all felt when he could get high and escape the mania/depression. He thanks you a dozen times, but you really don't mind. You like helping him, all of them. You can see the change in him almost immediately, how light he feels afterwards after keeping such impactful secrets to himself

Yelena starts to talk a little about Natasha, sharing stories mostly, until there's one night she finds you and she has this heartbroken look on her face. It's been so long since she's visited her sister and she fears she's moving on, leaving her behind. You assure her she could never forget about Tasha, that it's okay she hasn't visited because she's been busy with the Thunderbolts

Even Bucky comes to you, very occasionally. He doesn't even plan on talking. It's just the two of you in the kitchen and he starts telling you about Sam. How his friendship meant a lot to him and he ruined it. How he'll never find anyone like Steve and yet he can't move on. About Hydra and Wakanda and all the attempts he made to leave this life behind. He doesn't want to be comforted, so you just let him speak, and when he's done he apologizes, but you won't hear it

Ava comes to you about her chronic pain. She's frustrated with herself, her body and her condition. Frustrated that she hasn't gotten used to it yet. Frustrated she feels exhausted most days because of it. Frustrated that there's really not anybody who could fully understand

You know their deepest fears, and greatest shames, and most powerful grief and though you're not under any kind of oath, you'll never tell it to another soul. Valentina tries a few times to pry, to "get to know the team better" but when she realizes it's like squeezing blood from a stone, she gives up and lets you do your thing

John will often come to you for baby advice. You just seem to know these things, it comes to you so easily, and he's trying to be better. Less angry, working on his depression, so that he can be a better, more involved father

Birthdays are a big way you show your love, too. It doesn't have to some big, elaborate party, just a homemade cake and their favorite dinner. Alexei and his red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Yelena's rainbow funfetti. Bucky with his blueberry and Ava with her double chocolate. John's traditional vanilla and Bob with his coffee cake. You perfect the recipe days in advance so that, on their birthday, everything turns out perfect! Many of your teammates never had or celebrated their birthdays, so it's your own attempt to reclaim it as something good rather than something ignored or forgotten

You're constantly doing things around the tower like leaving little notes are reminders:

Bob, remember your suit is in the wash

Ava, I have leftovers for you in the fridge

Bucky, your arm is still in the dishwasher. Don't forget!

They never admit to it, but they greatly appreciate this and everything you do. Sometimes they'll leave you thank you notes or little gifts. Bucky and Ava will get your favorite coffee and a sweet treat from a beloved bakery. Bob will make you cookies from scratch and though they're somehow rock hard and raw, you love them anyways. John will try to be as nonchalant when he thanks you for dinner and offers to wash the dishes

While you appreciate all that they do for you in return, you hate that sort of attention. You never mind doing this for them. It brings you a lot of joy. So being thanked with so much sincerity, it freaks you out. Eventually, in return, your team learns to thank you in a way that doesn't seem like so much, so overwhelming. Now they leave you gifts without a note and the appreciation goes unsaid, but not unnoticed
