Aperçu of the week
"I know foreign policy is not for the faint of heart, but right now, I am sick to my stomach as the administration appears to be walking away from our allies and embracing Putin, a threat to democracy and U.S. values around the world."
(Lisa Murkowski, US Senator for Alaska since 2002 - and member of the Republican Party)
Bad News of the Week
It is already written in the Bible: “He who is not with me is against me” (Gospel according to Matthew). Which is of course black and white. Without shades of gray. So beyond any reality. Nevertheless, it is often used in political absolutism, which is also increasingly taking hold in democracies. Germans are familiar with this from their ambivalent relationship with Israel. Anyone who is not actively pro-Israel or criticizes any specific detail of the government's actions is a blanket anti-Semite. The way Republicans use the word “American” borders on the religious, but is at least ideological. “Un-American”, on the other hand, is the ultimate fall from grace: how can you not recognize and revere the obvious ideal as such.
We Europeans know Americans in our continental memory as liberators. Which was in fact the case during the Second World War. Without the Americans, Hitler's imperialism could not have been stopped in the Second World War. Afterwards, we were happy to accept support from the “Marshall Plan” (officially the European Recovery Program) for the reconstruction of the countries of Europe - from which, incidentally, Great Britain and France benefited the most. Then came Coca-Cola, Hollywood, Marlboro, Ford, Hot dog, Elvis Presley, Mars, Levi's, credit cards, Kellogg's, Disney, bubblegum. Everything that crossed the Atlantic was good and great. Which hasn't changed much to this day - McDonalds, Microsoft, hip hop, Nike, Marvel, super models, teleshopping, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Taylor Swift, etc. - you name it.
Anyone could have seen that where there is a lot of light, there is also a lot of shadow. The McCarthy era, Three-Mile Island, the deaths of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, Watergate or the Korean and Vietnam wars could have been a warning that not all that glitters is gold. But when the Iron Curtain fell and the capitalist model of society seemed to have triumphed so clearly over socialism, the 20th century finally entered the history books as the “US century”. Unfortunately, this apparently led to a feeling of superiority, almost to a bubble of fundamental infallibility. Economically, militarily and financially real, the claim was also made to define morals and values.
“America First” is much older and more fundamental than the reign of Donald J. Trump. A closer analysis clearly shows that the USA has never done anything simply pro bono. All international programs from the Marshall Plan to USAID have always served their own interests. And multilateral institutions such as the World Bank, whose processes are based on the economic weight of its members, are also instrumentalized. Things get interesting when the organization wants to act independently - like the World Trade Organization (WTO), which Trump is currently threatening to leave - or is defined as independent from the outset - like the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which the US has never recognized.
For a long time, all (Western) Europeans saw themselves as transatlanticists. Big brother America would take care of us. But it has been in retreat for a long time. 200,000 soldiers were stationed in Germany until 1990. Today there are still 35,000 - who primarily look after themselves, see Rammstein as a hub for interventions in the Middle East. Just around the corner from us in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, all that remains of the former Flint barracks on General-Patton-Street in Bad Tölz is the bowling alley.
The current dealings with Ukraine fit precisely into this pattern. Does supporting or dropping Ukraine serve American interests? This obviously depends not only on the subsequent reward in the form of natural resources, but also on the submissiveness shown. The next step is to stop military aid. “The president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,” says the White House officially. What it means is rather to be committed to Trump and contributing to American interests. Résumé: The American Dream can easily become a nightmare for anyone outside the US. Europe better wakes up.
Good News of the Week
As children in Germany, we all read Karl May. While most of us preferred the Wild West stories about the Apache chief Winnetou and his pale-faced blood brother Old Shatterhand, I found the so-called Orient cycle about Kara Ben Nemsi and Hadschi Halef Omar more interesting, my favorite book being “Through Wild Kurdistan”. I can still remember searching in vain for the country of Kurdistan in my school atlas. Before I learned the background thanks to many Turkish “guest worker” children at elementary school and in the neighborhood. Because many of them came from south-east Anatolia. Which should actually be called Kurdistan.
After the Tamils on the Indian subcontinent, the Kurds, who number at least 35 million, are the largest people without their own country on the planet. They are geographically spread across Iraq, Turkey, Iran and Syria as well as the diaspora - as they are oppressed practically everywhere, many Kurdish families seek their well-being abroad. The Kurdistan Workers' Party PKK (Partiya Karkerên Kurdistanê) plays a major role in this. What sounds harmless is not only regarded as a terrorist group by Turkey, but is at least critically observed in the rest of Europe. According to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the German branch of the PKK is with around 13,000 members the largest “foreign extremist organization in Germany”.
The head of the PKK is Abdullah Öcalan. He has been in prison for over 25 years. The Kurdish leader is now calling for a renunciation of violence: “All groups must lay down their arms and the PKK must disband.” This is the first peace initiative in over a decade in a conflict that is believed to have already claimed tens of thousands of lives. And it has been coordinated with the Turkish ultra-nationalists of the MHP party, of all people, who are part of the government.
If the followers listen to their leader, this would have a variety of effects - all of them positive: no more terror attacks on Turkish institutions. No more exaggerated state and police assaults on Kurds. A real chance of democratic representation regionally and in Ankara. Economic development opportunities through the establishment of businesses in Kurdistan. Increasing prestige for Kurds worldwide. And no more deaths.
Personal happy moment of the week
My mother had two strokes and a brain haemorrhage. For other 87-year-olds, that could have been the end. But this tough girl just fought her way back. And actually seems to be able to recover. I am so relieved.
I couldn't care less...
...for carnival. As on New Year's Eve, I often struggle to feel like partying just because it's on the calendar. But carnival is primarily made up of dumb humor, flat music, bad alcohol and dubious traditional customs that often descend into sexism - see, for example, the “women's hunt” in the Baden carnival. Thank you, I don't need any of that.
It's fine with me...
...that the conservatives of the CDU/CSU are currently attracting the indignation of civil society. And many politicians from other parties are even talking about a frontal attack on democracy. The parliamentary group (which is still in opposition) had submitted an official request to the federal government regarding the possible state funding of non-profit organizations, including through subsidies. This is because Campact, Grannies against the Right, Greenpeace, Foodwatch and PETA are all NGOs that can be classified as rather left-wing. It is perhaps no coincidence that they have only recently called for resistance against the conservative shift to the right. Honi soit qui ma y pense...
As I write this...
...I listen to the music of the Brit Awards. As I've never heard of most of the nominees, I shouldn't be surprised that I've never heard their music either. And I've never clicked skip so often. But when the radio in the car is set to “AbsolutebOldies” and I realize already from the title that “A Complete Unknown” must be a biopic about Bob Dylan, I guess I'm just out of time. PS: With Ezra Collective, a cross-generational link has been found after all. It looks like jazz always stays avant-garde.
Post Scriptum
After the whole state last Sunday, the federal state of Hamburg has now voted this Sunday. And the result is fundamentally different: the ruling red-green coalition of Social Democrats and Greens has lost percentages, but retains a majority. Alternatively, an alliance between the leading Social Democrats and the Conservatives would also be possible. A pleasing side aspect: the far-right AfD is only in 5th place - after the Left. And the pro-European Volt won more votes than the Liberals. It would be nice if this example set a precedent nationwide.

first of all, the duffers absolutely didn't have the full series planned out from the start because Stranger Things was originally pitched as a limited series with 1) the potential for a direct "sequel" that would follow the younger kids as adults (basically, they pitched "It") or 2) an outright sci-fi horror anthology. second of all, even if the duffers did have everything mapped out from the start that doesn't mean that plan isn't garbage.
#strangerthoughts#sorry ST reddit is driving me INSANE. please crawl back out of the duffers' asses#these guys literally lost the plot back in S3 and course corrected so hard that everyone collectively experienced whiplash#if they had any kind of plan in mind it definitely wasn't until after S2#I would argue it wasn't until after S3 tbh#like. S1 was definitely intended to stand alone#S2 was a direct continuation that only happened because netflix saw the show as profitable#and the duffers scrambled to yeet something out in a little over a year#which is why the justice for barb plot is a thing and el's plot is so disconnected from the rest of the season#they had no idea what to do with her when she was SUPPOSED TO DIE#S3 feels like the duffers pitched an anthology season and netflix said no#like. I could have liked S3 as a standalone campy action comedy#but it being a wacky season in the midst of non-wacky seasons makes me wonder what the duffers were smoking#and if the duffers had a solid plan for vecna before S3 I'll give them my left kidney free of charge#because S4 is a messy season. they crammed things in there that did not need to be crammed in#they bloated the cast and clearly had no idea what to do with 75% of said cast#and when I talk about the episodes being too long I'm directly referring to how in the last episode the kill vecna crew are being#STRANGLED BY VINES and PINNED TO A WALL for like thirty minutes straight#at that point someone should have suggested they reevaluate what they just wrote. because what they wrote sucked#I genuinely don't think the duffers will ever be show runners again#I think they'll continue to direct. which they are pretty good at. but I don't see them ever writing anything majorly successful again

I do hope New York Theatre Workshop will come out in favor of a ceasefire soon or something or the staff is vocally pro-palestine because the organization can't openly be so due to board members, because if not their choice to produce a show on Gaza feels incredibly hollow to me
#also this is non-profit theatre. donate that money to Gazan families#Caryl Churchill had the right idea when she said 'you can perform my play about palestine for free as long as you collect donations'

Are you 🫵 pissed off about the Lilo and Stitch monstrosity remake? Do you want to know how you can actually make a difference in supporting the people and ecosystems of Hawaii?
Tourism is a big issue in Hawaii (which the remake got rid of the original's commentary on because it makes foreigners look bad). I'm not gonna promote it, BUT I know that realistically, thousands of people arrive here every single day by the airplane-ful. And the majority of them aren't educated on the socio-cultural and economic impacts of tourism. SO, I'm making this post in an effort to educate visitors. If you or someone you know is visiting or moving to Hawaii (whether by circumstances in or out of your control), here are some suggestions on how you can give back!
You can donate to the Hawaii Community Foundation, which has been instrumental in giving aid to the displaced community of Lahaina after the Maui wildfires in 2023. They also provide scholarships to students of under-represented communities.
If you're interested in visiting Kualoa Ranch, you can do their Mālama Experience where you get your hands dirty giving back to the ‘āina (land)!
There are other organizations you can join to volunteer with, too, like Kupu and Mālama Maunalua. Check them out; maybe you can help with a beach cleanup or plant native trees! These are both non-profit organizations that accept monetary donations.
Visit the Bishop Museum to learn about Hawaiian history and culture! They also have events focused on sustainability and conservation.
If you're visiting Hilo on the Big Island, go visit the Laulima Nature Center! They're a non-profit aimed at protecting Hawaii's native species, and they even have an online store that ships to the US mainland and internationally! (After I post this, I'm gonna head on over and get myself a manu o Kū pin ♡)
A few other tips I have:
DO: Respect the locals' homes. Several beaches and hiking trails have access points in residential areas. Please be mindful to keep your voices down when passing by, and park ONLY in designated parking areas.
DO: Wear reef-safe sunscreen! Sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate are banned in Hawaii because they are known to damage coral reefs.
DON'T: Approach wildlife, particularly honu (sea turtles) and 'īlio holo i ka uaua (Hawaiian monk seals). Stay at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from turtles and at least 50 feet (15 meters) away from monk seals. If you see someone harassing animals, report them to the statewide NOAA Marine Wildlife Hotline: (888) 256-9840. You can also contact the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources.
DON'T: Collect sand, rocks, or other natural items to bring home with you. This is to protect the ecosystems and also out of respect for Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians), who have cultural beliefs regarding lava rocks in particular. Taking lava rocks is extremely disrespectful.
DON'T: Litter! Please throw away your waste in proper trash cans. If you see a bin that says "ʻōpala," that's a trash can!
Many Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) are moving to the US mainland because the cost of living in Hawaii has been driven up so high (because of people moving here), they can't afford to live in their ancestral home. So, if you are going to visit or move to Hawaii, please:
- Make the effort to support local businesses, especially those owned by Native Hawaiians!
- Educate yourself and your loved ones about actual Hawaiian culture!
- Try Hawaiian food, like poi!
- Learn some Hawaiian words and don't be afraid to ask how to pronounce words correctly!
- Donate to a food bank!
- Watch films and read books written by Native Hawaiians!
My hope is that whoever sees this post will use it to educate themselves, their friends, and their families who are considering visiting.
My background is in sustainability and the environment, so that's what I know to suggest off the top of my head. If any Kānaka Maoli read this post and have suggestions to add, please do!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Become a Waste Warrior Today
An easy beginning to a sustainable life
Think of a typical day. Plastic wrappers from snacks, shopping bags, and takeaway containers often land in a pile that seems to disappear once you throw it in the bin. But in reality, it doesn’t just “go away.” Unmanaged waste is a growing threat to fragile ecosystems like those in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Start at Home: Easy Steps Toward a Waste-Free Life
A lot of people feel overwhelmed when it comes to reducing waste. But the truth is, you don’t need a grand gesture—small changes add up over time.
Here are a few easy practices to get started with-
Say no to single-use plastics: Carry a cloth bag for groceries or a reusable water bottle when you’re out.
Get creative with reusable: Repurpose glass jars as storage containers or use old T-shirts as cleaning rags.
Segregate your waste: It’s simple but so effective. Separate recyclables, compost organic waste, and keep only the absolute non-recyclables for disposal.
Donate clothes and toys: Instead of throwing them away, pass on gently used items to local charities, shelters, or NGOs. This reduces waste and helps those in need.
Organize or join clothes swaps: Host a swap with friends or participate in community events to exchange pre-loved items and give them a second life.
Shop groceries in bulk: Buying from wholesale shops or stores that allow you to bring your containers minimizes the use of single-use plastic packaging.
Waste Warriors takes these principles and amplifies them through workshops and clean-up campaigns. Their goal is simple—empower people to take control of their waste and protect the environment.
Back in 2012, Waste Warriors began as a grassroots effort. Today, they’ve grown into a non-profit organization tackling waste management in some of India’s most scenic yet vulnerable regions.
Their story is inspiring because it’s rooted in action:
5,570+ metric tons of waste diverted from landfills, thanks to recycling
1,60,00+ people engaged in awareness drives, clean-up events, and behavior change campaigns.
600+ businesses enabled to be cleaner and responsible with waste disposal
Beyond just cleaning up, Waste Warriors is influencing systemic change—whether it’s working with local governments to develop waste management solutions or collaborating with CSR initiatives to drive social impact in marginalized communities. Read more about Waste Warrior’s impact over the past 12 years.
Volunteer with Waste Warriors
One of the best ways to support Waste Warriors is by rolling up your sleeves and joining their team. Whether you’re hiking through the Himalayas collecting trash or hosting recycling workshops in schools, there’s something meaningful for everyone.
Volunteers help with:
Leading clean-up drives to protect scenic trails.
Teaching waste segregation in local communities.
Supporting projects that connect waste pickers to opportunities, fostering rural livelihoods.
It’s not just about the work—it’s about becoming part of a movement that’s building a cleaner, greener future. You can follow this link and fill up a simple form to express your interest to volunteer with Waste Warriors.
Why Your Support Matters
At its core, Waste Warriors is about community-driven solutions. When you support them, you’re enabling change at a grassroots level, whether it’s through better waste collection services, recycling programs, or empowering communities to adopt sustainable practices.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
The next time you’re about to toss something “away,” think about where it ends up. Imagine the impact if we all decided to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle a little more each day. Together with organizations like Waste Warriors, we can protect the environment, one small step at a time.
So what are you waiting for? Start today—reduce your waste, spread the word, and join the movement to create a sustainable future.
Waste Warriors is on an ambitious journey to make the Indian Himalayan region clean – one mountain at a time. Join Waste Warriors in their mission for sustainability in India and help protect the natural beauty of the Indian Himalayan region. Read more about their work here and be a supporter of this systemic battle.
As already discussed by my fellowmate regarding the significance of the Rights of Nature, I would like to emphasize that this ecocentric approach represents a crucial step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Recognizing the Rights of Nature fosters a paradigm shift toward climate-smart and environmentally sound governance by adopting principles and practices aimed at protecting the environment. This marks a transition from a dominion-based relationship with nature to one grounded in mutualism. By allowing destructive practices like fracking, mining, and factory farming, current environmental regulatory frameworks essentially legalize environmental harm. Rights of Nature laws, on the other hand, provide a framework that puts ecosystem protection first and gives communities the authority to oppose harmful developments. In 2006, for example, Tamaqua Borough in Pennsylvania became the first American municipality to enact such laws, establishing a precedent for acknowledging the legal rights of nature.
In Bangladesh, the Turag River was declared a living entity, granting it legal personhood under the National River Conservation Commission. This recognition was accompanied by promises of rapid action to safeguard the river. However, challenges persist, as many water bodies in the country remain “dead” due to pollution from the indiscriminate dumping of industrial and human waste. Similarly, Ecuador has been a pioneer in integrating the Rights of Nature into its legal framework. A notable example occurred in 2021 when the Ecuadorian Constitutional Court revoked mining permits in Los Cedros, a cloud forest in the Andes known for its rich biodiversity. The court ruled that these permits violated not only the rights of local communities, such as the right to clean water and a healthy environment but also the inherent rights of the forest itself.
While recognizing the Rights of Nature is a significant step, its effective implementation often depends on aligning political interests and human actions with ecological goals. This underscores the need for strong governance and enforcement mechanisms to ensure that such legal frameworks are not undermined by competing interests or insufficient action.
As highlighted above, the Rights of Nature are always in alignment with human interests. The Rights of Nature serve as a bridge between environmental preservation, Indigenous rights, and human rights, and they are highly compatible with human interests. However, to maintain planetary habitability, ecosystems’ rights must occasionally take precedence because they provide humanity with vital life support. The human right to a healthy environment has been acknowledged by countries such as Finland, France, and Spain, which emphasise that securing robust legal protections for nature itself is essential to achieving this right.
Such disputes can be settled with the aid of well-defined legal frameworks that incorporate ecological thresholds and promote coexistence. Interspecies rights present another challenge, as conservation initiatives frequently give apex predators precedence over the interdependent functions of every species
in an ecosystem. This imbalance can be addressed by policies that take a comprehensive approach and are backed by traditional knowledge and community involvement. Furthermore, the Rights of Nature contradict conventional wisdom regarding sustainable development, which frequently ignores ecological health in favour of massive projects like mining or dam construction. Development objectives and environmental priorities can be matched by implementing decentralised legal frameworks and strengthening environmental impact assessments. For the Rights of Nature to be implemented effectively, I feel coalitions among stakeholders must be formed in order to identify needs and challenges. This ensures that solutions are inclusive and balanced.

To the people in the OTW Tumblr Inbox asking about how the OTW is responding to the American Election.
This is a separate post (and not a response to a specific message) because we all need to see it.
Folks have been asking Support (through the form) as well as the other social media mods, and we have now been given the following to tell you.
We are continuing to closely monitor political developments that may affect AO3 and the OTW as a whole. First, we want to assure you that there are several factors that tend to protect AO3 and its users from legal risks and challenges. These include that we are a non-profit, do not host images, do not use algorithms to promote or advertise content to users, are not aimed at children, and collect very little user data. The results of the 2024 U.S. election are deeply concerning, but the OTW remains committed to providing an inclusive space for fannish expression and will continue to fight for fans' free expression, both in court and through legislative efforts, in the U.S. and worldwide. We have seen that fans are a powerful force for promoting free expression, and we will continue to inform people about opportunities for their voices to be heard. If a bill is likely to be passed in the future that could impact our ability to provide services, our legal team will be prepared to offer updates, guidance, and legal support to our users. Fans are not alone in this fight. Both the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) (https://www.aclu.org/news/civil-liberties/the-aclu-is-fighting-back-against-trump ) and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) (https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/11/2024-us-election-over-eff-ready-whats-next ) made preparations for this outcome and have developed strategies to combat anticipated efforts to curtail online freedoms. We urge our users to support these organizations and others as they fight for your rights and ours.

How to help the people in Spain
As you may have seen online, Spain is going through a flash flood since October 29. It's mainly affected the Community of Valencia but also some parts of the south-west and the cold drop is now moving to the north-east.
95 bodies have been found at the time I'm writing this (edit: 205 now), there's still people missing and entire towns are isolated as they don't have electricity and their roads have been destroyed. A lot of people don't have tap water or any means to cook. If you're wondering why people didn't evacuate beforehand, it's because authorities didn't care enough to warn people so technically everyone had to go to work and school. Though politicians should be held accountable, the most important thing at the moment is to help those in need. So here's some ways you can help both people and animals that have been affected.
NGOs and fundraisers
MOST NEEDED AT THE MOMENT: You can donate to Valencia's food bank by making a transfer to this bank account: ES86 2100 2806 6402 0009 8998.
Horta Sud is a county in Valencia that has been the most affected by the floodings. People are leaving their houses because they're scared of the infrastructure getting damaged and even walking by foot to Valencia capital to get food. You can help those families via this gofundme.
Hambre Cero is a Spanish non-profit that was founded after the earthquakes in Indonesia. They will be giving food to those who need it. Here's different ways you can donate.
This gofundme is joining efforts with the town hall of Valencia to help people who have lost their homes.
Una copa por Valencia ("a drink to Valencia") is a campaign organized by Spanish influencer David Aliagas. The idea behind it is to donate the amount of money you would spend on drinks on a night out. He'll be joining effort with local non-profits. You can help here.
Here's a thread of artists that are accepting commissions in exchange for donations for Valencia.
Spanish Kpop fans are organizing a collective fundraiser.
EDIT: took Cáritas and Spanish Red Cross out of this post after this tiktok made by a volunteer went viral and a lot of people posted their experiences working for these NGOs. Apparently they're not distributing food. Instead they're telling people not to send more food and send money instead so they can keep part of it.
Help people directly
Help Sara, Steven and Bruno rebuild their home in Valencia.
Help this high school teacher buy a new car to get back to work.
Raúl was about to open his barbershop on October 31 but it was destroyed by the flood. Please help him get his dream back.
Help the neighbours of Aldaia (Valencia) rebuild their homes.
This artist has been affected by the floods and lost their car. They've opened emergency commissions.
You can help rebuild the town of Letur (Albacete) by donating to this gofundme that's directly coordinated with the town hall.
Rebeca is a seamstress. Her studio was both her workplace and a place were came together for a sewing club in the afternoons. It was destroyed by the flood. You can help her rebuild it here
Animal shelters
Refugio Minipow was home to 50 rabbits and guinea pigs. Thankfully, the owners were able to move all the animals to their homes and those of their neighbors, though the shelter itself has been destroyed right after recent renovations. There's different ways to donate here.
El Refugio de María a dog shelter in Sueca (Valencia), is completely flooded, leaving the dogs visibly distressed, as shown here. You can donate to PayPal [email protected]
Modepran is a dog shelter in Campanar (Valencia) where infrastructure damage has left some dogs without a proper sleeping area. You can donate through PayPal here.
Gatos Campo de Gibraltar is a cat shelter in Los Barrios (Cádiz). need of assistance for relocating cats to new homes and rebuilding damaged facilities. You can donate to their PayPal [email protected]
Protectora San Antón is an animal shelter for cats and dogs in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). The entire place is flooded and the animals don't have a comfortable place to sleep in. Cats can't even walk on the ground. You can donate to their PayPal [email protected]
I'll be adding more as I find them. Thank you everyone for your help.
Edit: adding this because I keep seeing people on Twitter and Tiktok say it makes no sense to give money to people in a "first world" country. I need you people to understand that living in a western country doesn't equal politicians caring about you.
This whole thing started because politicians weren't doing their job and they're still not doing it. People (literal civilians, not firefighters or policemen) are literally pulling bodies from under cars and putting them inside the trunks so children in the affected areas don't see them. There's underground parkings still flooded by water and we don't know how many people may be inside them.
France offered to send us 200 firemen and the Ministry of Interior literally REFUSED. Some of these French firemen came on their own anyway. But that's what our politicians are doing. Negating help and pointing fingers at each other so they don't seem guilty.

🗣️ This is for all new internet connected cars

A new study has found that your car likely knows more about you than your mom. That is disconcerting, but what’s even more so is what is being done with your information. It’s all about the Benjamins. Our private information is being collected and sold.
The Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit that studies internet and privacy issues, studied 25 car manufacturers. And it found every manufacturer sold in America poses a greater risk to your privacy than any device, app or social media platform.
Our cars are rolling computers, many of which are connected to the internet collecting information about how you drive and where. New cars also have microphones and sensors that give you safety features like automatic braking and drowsy driver detection. Those systems are also providing information. Got GPS or satellite radio? Then your car likely knows your habits, musical and political preferences.
Did you download your car’s app which gives you access to even more features? Well that also gives your car access to your phone and all the information on it.
The study found that of the 25 car brands, 84% say they sell your personal data.
And what they collect is astounding.
One example the study sites is KIA’s privacy policy. It indicates the company collects information about your sexual activity. I initially didn’t believe it until I pulled KIA’s privacy policy and read it. And it’s right there in black and white. "The Yurok will be the first Tribal nation to co-manage land with the National Park Service under a historic memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday [March 19, 2024] by the tribe, Redwood national and state parks, and the non-profit Save the Redwoods League, according to news reports.
The Yurok tribe has seen a wave of successes in recent years, successfully campaigning for the removal of a series of dams on the Klamath River, where salmon once ran up to their territory, and with the signing of a new memorandum of understanding, the Yurok are set to reclaim more of what was theirs.
Save the Redwoods League bought a property containing these remarkable trees in 2013, and began working with the tribe to restore it, planting 50,000 native plants in the process. The location was within lands the Yurok once owned but were taken during the Gold Rush period.
Centuries passed, and by the time it was purchased it had been used as a lumber operation for 50 years, and the nearby Prairie Creek where the Yurok once harvested salmon had been buried.
Currently located on the fringe of Redwoods National and State Parks which receive over 1 million visitors every year and is a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site, the property has been renamed ‘O Rew, a Yurok word for the area.
“Today we acknowledge and celebrate the opportunity to return Indigenous guardianship to ‘O Rew and reimagine how millions of visitors from around the world experience the redwoods,” said Sam Hodder, president and CEO of Save the Redwoods League.
Having restored Prarie Creek and filled it with chinook and coho salmon, red-legged frogs, northwestern salamanders, waterfowl, and other species, the tribe has said they will build a traditional village site to showcase their culture, including redwood-plank huts, a sweat house, and a museum to contain many of the tribal artifacts they’ve recovered from museum collections.
Believing the giant trees sacred, they only use fallen trees to build their lodges.
“As the original stewards of this land, we look forward to working together with the Redwood national and state parks to manage it,” said Rosie Clayburn, the tribe’s cultural resources director.
It will add an additional mile of trails to the park system, and connect them with popular redwood groves as well as new interactive exhibits.
“This is a first-of-its-kind arrangement, where Tribal land is co-stewarded with a national park as its gateway to millions of visitors. This action will deepen the relationship between Tribes and the National Park Service,” said Redwoods National Park Superintendent Steve Mietz, adding that it would “heal the land while healing the relationships among all the people who inhabit this magnificent forest.”"

I'm in trouble 🪦🍉🇵🇸
there is something important that we should take care of together.

Ihya Company
After deep reflection and great effort in light of the genocide, we are a youth team, I decided to establish a non-profit collective company aimed at:
1 . Bringing young people with high efficiency in software development and maintaining the remaining experience and training them for free👨💻📱
2 . Bringing young men and girls with the best in design and editing, training them and providing electricity for training for free as well👩💻👨💻
3 . Providing good Internet for a solution for exams for the benefit of students who could not provide good Internet since any place where you will use the Internet will need a very high cost 💶
4 . Stationery and books are provided to students who are unable to buy these things.📚

For that :
We need to save money to start the project on Monday in two days
Revival is based on your donations to start what we planned for, so we need to reach $2,000 as soon as possible. The revival campaign received $392.
Company's private donation campaign (ihyaa).
Note that if Monday comes and we don't collect the amount we will pay to rent the place, at least we will leave everything we started because of the lack of money and the amount is very small, which is $2,000, including office rent, electricity and water. Note that the appointment is today and it is on Saturday, but the owner of the place gave me another chance that he can't start the initiative
