The Ultimate Guide to Cross Platform App Development Frameworks in 2023

However, businesses are now switching to cross-platform app development to reduce development costs and time. Compared to native app development, there are countless benefits that attract companies to choose this method. If you are still thinking about your development approach, this article will shed light on why you should choose cross-platform mobile app development. Cross-platform mobile app development is an approach that allows developers to build a single app for multiple platforms. Developers can use a single codebase, so they don’t have to develop multiple versions of the same application. They can write the code once and deploy it on multiple platforms to streamline development.

so I'm in the office when I hear it. the EIC, in the corner, my manager's manager, lights up the batsignal and voices a cry for aid:
"is anyone here who speaks Welsh?"
immediately, all heads turn to Charles' desk. Charles is Welsh. Charles takes several days to recover from the shock every time someone on a National Trust podcast mispronounces Llanidloes. surely Charles will answer the call.
Charles, the bloody nerve of him, is on Annual Leave to spend the Easter holidays with his son.
at this point I realise that several heads, including my manager's, are turning to me.
I do not speak Welsh.
I was brought up by a Welsh speaker, my grandmother, but given that we live in London and noone else in the family speaks Welsh, I only really picked up the most basic of family pleasantries. I can say cheers and goodnight, I can offer and order hot beverages, and I can answer the six questions people immediately ask when they find out you speak even a little bit of Welsh (the answer to all of these is as far as I can tell, yes but nobody says that. yes but it's baby talk. yes but it was a marketing scam. you know the ones)
I also have a master's degree in, amongst other things, medieval Welsh. as attention turns to me, I weigh up the possibility that the EIC needs someone to urgently translate Culhwch ac Olwen into modern English.
it seems unlikely. however, my CV says I have basic Welsh, and I need this job, so I head to the EICs desk with the thudding tread of someone bound for the gallows
further context-- 90% of my job is combing through business documents for aside phrases indicating business changes. this takes a lot of cross-referencing and close reading. I find this hard in my native language. I find it extremely hard in languages I'm fluent in. the idea of doing it in Welsh, a language where my conversation options are limited to "good morrow sir! the English advance on our left flank!" or "Mr fishy likes to swim", fills me with fathomless dread. in my head, I am writing my application to the next job.
the EIC turns a page around on the desk. "how do you pronounce this?"
I look at the word, relief beginning to sink in. Welsh is phonetic. even if I don't know this word, I can read it.
I do a double take. "Dai?"
"are you sure?" the EIC asks. "should I call Charles on his holidays just to check?"
"it's Dai," I repeat.
"it's not different if it's Welsh?"
I have absolutely no idea what she thinks the Welsh are doing to innocent vowel sounds that the English are not already doing. "it's Dai. like Dai Llewellyn."
"it's the same every time?"
"... yes"
"oh good." the EIC puts away her sheet and lets me go back to my desk.
as I sit down, the news editor at the next desk looks up. "so," he asks. "is it true that the Welsh for jellyfish is

hi, i'm not the person who asked you about the life update, but could you elaborate on how being a creator means to live in a world of ideas instead of the real world? i'm just really curious about your reasons for quitting, specially because i want to create things in the future (not necessarily streaming, but anyways), hope you have a good day!
i'll be talking mostly about streaming for the sake of this answer, but this is similarly applicable across a wide range of platforms:
the job of the streamer is, effectively, to be the life of the party every single day. your goal is to be the person that has something interesting to talk about, and is quick with a joke, and has nuanced understandings of certain things, without actually obtaining any sort of "expertise" in anything lest you alienate viewers. short of having a stated goal for a stream, the only goal of the streamer is to let people relax with a voice they enjoy, saying things they like hearing. you can become very strong in different aspects of streaming, like in the production, or as someone who focuses more on a skill they've honed like art or speedrunning, but the demographic of streamers which pulls, by far, the most significant viewership, is personality based streamers.
this becomes more complicated when, for example, you are very interactive with chat, or you stream with multiple people at once. now, to maintain this charismatic sway you have (the one that got you the job in the first place), you must be able to adapt to and bounce off of other people, as you are now no longer performing alone. naturally, there's a need to not only manage your own flow of consciousness, but also to be at least partially in sync with someone else's.
beyond these complications, you must also consider drawing in new viewership. when i was a streamer, i was quite successful, relatively speaking. pulling 300 viewers consistently is something a very slim amount of streamers can actually do, and even then i was still making under 50k a year, which is not bad, but also not good. in paying for my apartment, my insurance, my travel fare, and all the other stuff that living independently draws money out of you with, i was more often in the red than i was in the green. hence, the need to draw in new viewers, which cannot be done without something eye-catching.
think about this: there are, at any given time, TENS OF THOUSANDS of streamers live in your native language on twitch, and they are all FREE TO WATCH. the attention market is sparse because the streamer market is oversaturated. and considering all of THEM want new viewers too, everyone is constantly refining and improving their craft, which requires everyone to move creatively in tandem with each other lest they get left behind.
if you are a streamer making ass-dollars and ass-cents, it becomes easy to begin resenting people like jerma, solely because everything he touches seems to turn to gold. i personally found it easy to feel very disappointed in myself when peoples projects that seemed so simple would take off. it was a constant "why didn't i think of that!" situation, at least for me. and when you don't have the energy to keep that up, or the social stamina necessary to figure that all out while also being upbeat and happy in front of people near daily, it can become very draining.
what i mean specifically when i say the "world of ideas", is like. there would be times where i could schedule out my failures weeks in advance. i'd be so in my own head about the process, i could see the exact path i could see myself taking that would lead me directly to ruin. how playing games i actually enjoyed would steadily drop viewership, or how focusing on my studies would make people forget about me. and of course this is augmented by my anxiety, i know this is absolutely not the case for every streamer, but that overwhelming feeling of needing to find a new game to play, or a new gimmick to use, or a new ploy to get money that doesn't make you feel guilty even though your source of income is mostly queer and mostly poor young adults and your rent is coming up and you're $200 short but you also just had a fundraiser last month about a DIFFERENT emergency but you cant make it a bummer or else people wont want to tune in so you have to make it something fun like "you laugh you lose!" or "$1 art request streams!" while feeling nothing but anxiety while youre trying to sound like youre enjoying yourself even when youre asking 250 people to donate every 30 minutes or so and nobody seems to want to and chat is moving slowly and. and and.
well, it starts to eat away at you.

Dear Pearl Clutching Anon,
This woman is the worst mythomaniac and the most pathetic know-it-all of the entire fandom. Mark me: probably a sock account of one of the Mordor sopranos, who'd like to play it cool otherwise. She is an impostor, pretending to be a Scot. But her grammar and spelling recurrent mistakes point to anything else but an English native speaker.
Prized and praised as she is by the dim-witted, she is living proof of the fact that you cannot reasonably and endlessly pretend to be an expert in hair implants, cocktails/bartending, audiovisual production, copyright, alcohol sales and pretty much everything in between. To me, she is at her most pathetic when she pretends to analyze the legal intricacies of the French regulations applicable to public alcohol tasting events.
What happened, in fact, at the Landcon 6 whisky tasting?
Ok. So, this was announced by the French organizers on March 5th and presented as a limited audience event, priced at 350 euros.
This idiot's comment is absolutely priceless:
She would be surprised to find out that, unlike the US, there has never been any Prohibition decreed in France (Hell would have frozen). Even more interestingly, the only venues where French law specifically prohibits alcohol tastings and sales are enumerated very clearly in regulations far above her intellectual abilities:
The main idea is that you cannot sell/organize alcohol tastings in public health venues (hospitals, clinics, etc), rehabilitation clinics (d'oh!) - both for alcohol and drug addictions -, schools, youth summer camps, sports arenas, swimming pools or any other public or private sports venues.
(Source: French Public Health Code, https://www.dalloz.fr/documentation/Document?id=CODE_CSPU_ARTI_D3335-1&scrll=CSPU022225&FromId=CODES_SECS_CSPU_TALPHA)
To these limitations, the French national professional organizations add, as best practice, the following: churches, cemeteries, prisons, military barracks, railway/public transport facilities (including depots).
(Source: Vin & Société's Guide juridique de la dégustation/Tasting Legal Guide - https://www.syndicat-cotesdurhone.com/upload/article/file/202103guidejuridiquedeladegustation-60658bb9468b4.pdf)
To my knowledge, Landcon's venue was neither a cemetery, nor a church (the latter could be, however discussed: wee & lame joke, btw). And for that poor woman's information, you would not need an exemption, but a permit, or licence. In current French law, there are four such sale permits, ranked from I (soft drinks, such as Orangina) to IV (all drinks, including spirits). The fabled Licence IV (also the name of a beloved 90s French kitschy music group, LOL) is now impossible to obtain and if you want to have one, you have to buy the venue (cafe, nightclub, bar, bistro, restaurant or buvette) that had it issued first, many moons ago.
That problem solved, we would have to further analyze the type of event hosted by the Landcon. Was it a tasting or a sale, according to French regulations?
If it was a tasting, no licence is needed. If it was a sale, you might need a temporary licence, granted by the Mayor, provided you have notified them at least 3 months before the event. These are also famously hard to get and very sparingly granted, too.
Because tastings are an exception, they are strictly defined by French regulations as 'free alcohol consumption' and their regulations are excruciatingly detailed. Procedures and limitations vary according to the type of event: sports, tourism promotion, markets and fairs, public gatherings or cultural events (which is the one that seemed the closest to our situation). But a cultural event-cum-tasting would have to be completely free of charge (no paying access tickets), in order to be exempt from any legal obligation. This was not the case, as we know there was a rather steep, 350 euros fee, to be able to attend it:
(Source: Vin & Société's Guide juridique de la dégustation/Tasting Legal Guide - https://www.syndicat-cotesdurhone.com/upload/article/file/202103guidejuridiquedeladegustation-60658bb9468b4.pdf)
That new activity was certainly not a tasting, as defined by French law. An amateur could then conclude, that S's event was, in fact, a disguised sale and that he is either a sinister fool or a filthy conman.
The trouble is, French legislation tolerates one single, overruling exception to everything I wrote above: sale by the producer of said alcohol. It is to be found (or rather interpreted - and it has been so by myself AND the French professional organizations), in the Code Général des Impôts/ French Tax Code:
To avoid a tedious legal translation, the idea is that if you do not sell your own produced booze, you are automatically considered as a stockist/trader and as such, subject to alcohol sales' regulations. If the Landcon organizers would have sold/promoted Laphroaig, for example, they would have needed the permit. But hosting a paying tasting event organized by SRH, promoting SRH's whisky and which profits entirely belonged to SRH is a sale by the producer, as defined by French law, not needing a permit:
(Source: Vin & Société's Guide juridique de la vente/Sales Legal Guide - https://fgvb.fr/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Vin-et-Societe-Guide-juridique-de-la-vente-19042021.pdf)
So: even if the tasting event was, in fact, a sale, French law allows a producer to sell his own alcohol, for promotion purposes as a side event, with no further need to obtain a permit. And this is exactly what their legal team rightfully advised them to do and completely what I would advised them to do, too.
That woman is so often and in so many ways completely wrong, that she is absolutely ridiculous. She (and also her other Big Friend) should perhaps stop pretending to be whatever they are not. Infantilizing, bullying and snarling at people does not help with their credibility.
Such women are genuine Frauds and absolutely despicable. People spend years fucking their eyesight in law school and we do not joke about interpreting and reading legalese. Ever. But to see idiots pretending to know just because they fucking used Google for ten minutes is just infuriating: it took me two hours to find the exception and another two to write this comment.
I hope this long, tedious answer was helpful, Anon.

(Semi-)OC Profile: Cyrus Vermillion
Another “semi-OC" and one of my main characters in Scarlet Cross!
He’s our favorite plant mage as a trans boy. There is no Mimosa in this universe, and all archives regarding Lady Mimosa Vermillion have been altered by ink magic. There is only Lord Cyrus Vermillion (ʘ‿ʘ✿)
Age: 15 (as of chapter 8) Height: 158cm (hoping for a second growth spurt) Birthday: August 26th Blood Type: O Astrological Sign: Virgo Likes: potion-making, plants and insects, sweets and black tea that would complement them Love Interest: Yuno Grinberryall (ship name “Icarus”)
@artistic-endchamber DREW A BEAUTIFUL RENDITION OF THIS BOY HERE!
But also, behold, some picrew visuals!

Picrew Credit: Left | Right
Additional Details Below the Cut
Cyrus and Yuno’s ship name is Icarus. I decided to go the mythological/aesthetic route because Yuno can fly and Cyrus’ name literally means The Sun. Also, Cyno sounds like a futuristic space pod, and Yunorus sounds like a virus.
Since Mimosa looks like Tetia in canon, Cyrus here looks like a red-headed version of Lumiere. I imagine Tetia and Lumiere to have similar facial structures, given that they’re siblings, and let's face it, most anime faces look similar thanks to the nature of anime art styles. Patry is not happy about this resemblance.
But before his transition, lots of people (including his sister Rose, a.k.a. Girl!Kirsch) said that he looked like his mother, Fleur Vermillion (neé Silva), who looks like a silver-haired version of Tetia. He still takes after his mother, but because of his hair and his clothes, the resemblance is less noticeable to most people. He and Mother have the same smile and the same uncanny way of pestering people with sweet affirmations. Patry’s just in denial.
Plant mages are naturally gifted potion-makers, and Cyrus is no exception. He learned to brew potions from a witch named Edna at the Black Market (recommended by Owen, who also had his fair share of dealings there). At first, Cyrus was only there to learn how to brew the phloxglove potion—a puberty-blocking potion for his transition (and a pun because “foxglove” + “night phlox”, with night phlox being a key ingredient in this potion). Then, he realized that potions have wide applications to supplement recovery magic, so he decided to learn everything he could.
Whenever Cyrus was in the Black Market, his codename was Ambrose (inspired by Ambrosia). He also stumbled upon an injured Zora (whom he calls “Mask”) who won a dueling match at the Black Market amphitheater. He could only do first aid and heal non-fatal wounds since he didn’t have a grimoire yet, but still, he accidentally became a vigilante because he couldn’t leave an injured person alone, no matter how rude they were. And when he learned that Zora wasn’t the only reckless fighter here, he kept coming back to make sure no one would die from their stupidity.
As a consequence, “Mask” ended up meeting “Ambrose” every week for two years. He also bullies Zora into teaching him some basic runes, which means that when he goes to Heart to study at 13 years old, he asks to learn Mana Method instead of (per my headcanon of Mimosa’s first time in Heart) focusing on natural wonders like plants native to the kingdom. That means Cyrus can already use rune arrays by the time of the main plot.
Cyrus never gets a crush on Talia, unlike his canon counterpart’s crush on Asta. There is no love triangle in Ba Sing Se in Scarlet Cross. The “divergence” here is caused by the fact that Cyrus first officially meets Talia while she’s with Leopold, so Cyrus’ first impression of Talia is “aww look, it’s Leo and a Smaller, Louder Leo, that’s delightful”. The association of Talia with his cousin ruined any semblance of romantic inclinations Cyrus might’ve otherwise had.
Fuegoleon gives Cyrus a congratulatory gift on the day he moves into the Golden Dawn base: Calvin the Venus Flytrap. Calvin is a good, enchanted plant boy. Calvin is Cyrus’ beloved minion. Calvin will devour the limb of his master’s enemy and be proud of it. (I’ll add a hyperlink to Calvin’s profile here once it’s ready.) @artistic-endchamber also has an enchanted plant counterpart for Mimosa in their universe, Celia the Venus Flytrap. If Celia and Calvin ever meet, they will mate, and the world may not survive.
With Cyrus’ name and orange hair, it is only natural that @artistic-endchamber’s OC Mai calls him “Big Brother Citrus”. His eyes are also golden, which is pretty darn close to the shade of lemons, so that’s a double citrus attack.
Yami calls Cyrus “Treehugger”, and Edna (the potions master) calls him “Greenie”. Zora calls him “Pipsqueak” instead of Ambrose to spite him. And his mother, Fleur, calls him Sunshine. Fleur belongs to @f-oighear and she's the best.
Before Cyrus came out as trans, his nickname used to be “Sunflower”, to go with his deadname “Mimosa”, a flower that can sometimes be sunshine yellow. But he told his mother that he didn’t want to be a flower anymore, because he associated flowers with girls at the time (considering Fleur and Rose’s names). That’s why Fleur changed his nickname to Sunshine.

OC MEME
tagged by @vspin. Thank you fren!
name: Morgan. Just Morgan.
nickname(s): someone probably called her freckles a few times?
pronouns: she/her
star sign: not applicable
height: I hadn't thought about it honestly...a little bit shorter than Astarion since that tends to be how I draw them.
orientation: Pansexual, but prefers men due to them being a forbidden fruit for most of her early life.
race: Human. Probably.
romancing: Astarion and Halsin
fave fruit: Pears
fave season: Winter, less work to do and more time to play in the snow!
fave flower: She doesn't know much about flowers, but she likes the white ones that look like bells.
fave scent: Fresh bread. It's nostalgic for her, she was tasked with being the Baker Mother's assistant and helped with making everyone's daily bread. She likes walking through food markets near her shop in Baldur's Gate to smell all the fresh pastries and bread products.
coffee, tea, or hot chocolate: hot chocolate because caffeine sets off her wild magic, but she'd really prefer a nice sweet wine.
average sleep hours: normal human sleep hours
dogs or cats: No, her and her Vampire lover have normal pets, like a brain that is also a Kitty and 4 undead ghoul servants they named Gortash, Ketheric, Orin and Brain.
dream trip: She'd like to see another big city someday! She likes the bustle of the crowds, the local marketplace and food scene, various festivals for all sorts of holidays she never knew of, for races she is still learning about.
amount of blankets: Everyone who sleeps loves many blankets, this is known, and her boyfriend generates no body heat and actually steals all of hers. I feel like the blanket situation during most of the early acts is pretty poor, they probably have something basic to keep off the worst of the chill but nothing cozy until they get to the city proper. Then the Elfsong Tavern has all these thick, furred blankets and she just cocoons herself and hisses when Astarion tries to touch her with his ice cold hands.
random fact(s):
(stealing your fact about languages >:3c) Morgan's native tongue is an obscure dialect of Elvish that is spoken mostly by Feywild Eladrin. I feel like she should have an unusual accent because of this but I kind of just like, write her with a valley girl accent because that's how I talk, lol.
her wild magic is very active and tends to surge in response to her emotions. She's learned to control her emotional responses pretty well and is a fairly zen person overall. She took up meditation after accidentally setting loose a couple of cambions in the marketplace during a heated haggle. Oxus is who suggested and taught her the techniques! Then during the events of the game, she starts joining Halsin in his morning meditations, which is how they start to grow close.
tagging @withersily, @collegeoflore, @eeblingtheshade, @grandmother-goblin, @thebearmuse and @bl3ss3dbyt1amat or like, anyone else that wants to do this ofc!

do attractive women or women who wear makeup do better at jobs/interviews and is it the same for men? are women ''punished'' for not wearing makeup. are both attractive men and women preferred or does one suffer from lookism more
This was incredibly interesting to research! In short, it appears that there is a general attractiveness advantage, but that this may be context dependent (e.g., stereotypically feminine jobs) for women.
---
The "Attractiveness Advantage"
There are several literature reviews [1-5] that suggest attractive individuals tend to see relatively better labor market outcomes. These [2, 4, 5] suggest possible reasons for this effect, ranging from employer discrimination to self-selection to evidence of statistical differences in productivity (e.g., customers buy more from more attractive people).
This paper [5] suggests "interviewers compare traits inferred from a candidate’s physical appearance with traits associated with their prototype for the job position." However, they also make sure to note that "although interviewers more readily infer certain traits, the accuracy of those inferences varies."
A Gendered Phenomenon
More recently, researchers have started to consider whether this effect is gendered.
This 2024 review [1] of almost 60 articles is particularly interesting. It discusses how a similar number of articles have reported a positive effect of attractiveness for both women and men. However, they also note that a number of articles have reported attractiveness was disadvantageous for women; no such evidence exists for men. They conclude "attractiveness is a rather universally beneficial for men, whereas it may be more context-dependent for women".
This review [3] suggests "highly attractive women can be disadvantaged in applying for male sex-typed jobs, and less attractive women can be disadvantaged in applying for female sex-typed and neutral jobs". (This review also noted that "clearly competent women were rated lower than equivalent men for male sex-typed jobs unless evidence of communal qualities was also provided".)
Some specific articles [6-11] documenting the heterogeneity in findings:
This paper [6] found both that applicant attractiveness improved outcomes and that "for the male sex-typed managerial job, men received higher ratings than women, and the opposite held for the female sex-typed managerial job." But they did not find that attractiveness differential benefited women and men from within this framework.
This paper [7] found that "attractiveness of servers positively impacted participants’ perceptions of the servers’ interpersonal skill and participants’ tipping behavior" but the degree of effect was dependent on a complex interaction of many factors including the participant's own personal characteristics.
This Italian study [8] found that "attractive people have a higher chance of being contacted by the employers" and that "the lack of attractiveness produce an evident penalty for women, while being non native reduces the probability to receive a callback for men".
This study [9] found that "attractive applicants received higher hireability ratings than did unattractive ones" and that "being unattractive was more disadvantageous for a female than for a male sex-typed job". (This one has some really interesting interaction graphs if you want to take a look!)
This study [10] suggested attractive men but not attractive women had a "significantly higher rate of callback". (Their conclusions about this are ... fairly sexist.)
This paper [11] found that "attractiveness can be detrimental for women applying for masculine sex-typed jobs for which physical appearance is perceived as unimportant".
There's a few explanations for why we may be seeing these results. For example, perhaps employers are stereotyping attractive women as more "feminine" and therefore unequipped for a "masculine" job. Perhaps male employers are failing to consider more attractive women as anything other than a sex object.
Conversely, perhaps less attractive women are being stereotyped as "unfeminine" and therefore not equipped for a "feminine" job. Perhaps their employers believe customers will be less likely to regard these women positively. (Perhaps customers are less likely to view these women positively; the attractiveness advantage doesn't just apply to employers, it affects the customers as well.)

Makeup is connected to this topic in that it is used to "improve" attractiveness. Therefore, the above results (for women) can likely be translated to use/non-use of makeup.
Here's a few articles about this specific topic:
This paper [12] found that, for women, for a salesperson job "professional makeup positively affects recruiter’s perception, and considerably increases the number of convocation".
This paper [13] found: "Women presented wearing cosmetics were perceived as healthier and more confident than when presented without. Participants also awarded women wearing makeup with a greater earning potential and with more prestigious jobs than the same women without cosmetics."
This paper [14] found: "When women did not emphasize their femininity through the use of makeup, counter to gender norms and stereotypes, they elicited higher interpersonal discrimination as a penalty compared to when they used tinted makeup. In contrast, men did not suffer a penalty for appearing in ways that were counter-stereotypical of their gender (i.e. femininity through the use of makeup)."
This old (1986) study [15] reported that "cosmetics use had a negative effect on the expected performance of female applicants for a gender-typed (secretary) position, but no effect on the expected performance of female applicants for a nongender-typed (accountant) position." The second result appears to mimic the results from above (i.e, attractiveness is disadvantages for women in male-typed jobs). The first result is less clear, but the authors note that employers may find "dressing up the office" (i.e., hiring attractive women) more important than highly productive assistants. (In other words, the women who used cosmetics were presumed to be less skilled for a female-typed job, but may be hired anyway due to their employers desire to be around attractive women.)
So, they seem to roughly mimic the attractiveness advantage literature. I didn't find (but could have missed) any more recent articles that specifically examined the interaction between sex, sex-typed jobs, and makeup use. That being said, I think it's a reasonable hypothesis that makeup use is associated with similar labor market effects via the moderating variable of (perceived) attractiveness.
Conclusion
So, it looks like research generally supports the presence of a general attractiveness advantage. However, for women, this may apply to only certain situations (e.g., "feminine" jobs); in fact, attractiveness may even hurt women in some situations (e.g., "masculine" jobs). A similar phenomenon may apply to cosmetics use, but more research is needed to confirm this.
