#pokemon #pokemon ruby and sapphire #hoenn #gen 3 #flygon #aquanutart #i made this in the dead of winter a couple of years ago #after wanting for the whole year to enter the tcg illustration contest but i ended up working on something at the last minute as usual #i don't like competition but i enjoy having a reason to draw a pokemon with a lot of other people #i was waking up early before work to keep making progress on it but i thought i wasn't going to make the deadline #and when i had just decided i had done as much as i could and couldn't get it finished #i went out on that cold snowy day and on that day and that day only for some reason my car wouldn't start #we tried starting it with jumper cables but i'm not sure i know how to use them.. anyway i had to call someone and wait for them to come #i had to call in late to work and then i was waiting for two hours. which was just about enough time for me to keep working on this #i was able to submit it seconds before the deadline the next morning #and it's very cool to me that i was able to participate even though i didn't place (i'm actually glad i didn't place)#(because i would rather it go to someone who worked longer on their entry and/or started earlier before the deadline)#(i just wanted to join everyone in drawing a pokemon but i would prefer for it to just be its own thing and not compared to other pokemon)#this is partly why it's cool to me to have the tcg cards from the contest i also entered!#i chose to draw flygon because gen 3 is one of my favorites and i grew up in the desert and always wanted to imagine pokemon running around #that was the last era of my childhood before i moved and had to grow up where everything was new and different #for 12 years overseas i was homesick for this sun #i'm in a snowier place now but i see the sun even in winter so i'm happy!#since drawing this i appreciate and notice flygon a lot more! i always thought trapinch was very cute #i love the scene in twilight wings final episode when flygon is looking around and scanning; it's so cool #and because of this i got very excited to see flygon in the pokearth documentary flying like a dragonfly #i had wanted to imagine it landing a bit like a bug

I haven't played in a while, so they're still so baby in-game... they're only level 10-11... 🥺 Therefore their moveset is still kind of ehhh haha. Sorry for not drawing them all, tbh I got kind of bored after taking way-too-long on that Vine Whip art, but I hope you like these anyways! They're the four moves they use the most!

Olive's ability is Overgrow. Her moves are Vine Whip, Sludge, Leech Seed and Tackle!

Thara's ability is Blaze. Her moves are Psybeam, Ember, Scratch and Tail Whip (which kind of felt like a waste of time later on so I deactivated it)

I have now played Pokemon Red through Black, skipped XY, played Sun and PLA, and a few hours of the diamond and pearl remake. I can say without hesitation that the pivot to 3D was Pokemon's downfall, the mainline games are objectively worse, and if life were just, Game Freak would be crushed by their own arrogance. Unlike everyone else, I don't have nostalgia to lie to me, so I know I'm right

#PLA was good but served to highlight the flaws of the new games like #the core gameplay of a 2D sprite tileset rpg really isn't improved by the ability to move diagonally #the resources used to limp after the expected features of higher end games would have been better served on the stuff you're good at #I said before that I missed the dual screens of the DS line #but I had no idea how detrimental having one big screen would be to the Pokemon specifically #The barrenness is soooo notable a trainer attacks you and you're transported to the void dimension #Forced to look at bad zoom shots of your frozen grin and the trainer apperating in and out of existence and empty gradient grass #Pokemon

i dont talk about him much but i really do fucking love chilled. like the way he isn't afraid to talk to anyone and will just do bits with people he doesn't know is both a joy to watch and a quality I admire so much about a person.

one particularly interesting theory to come out of the leaks is the idea that Swadloon used to once be a part of the Petilil line

It's been confirmed in interviews that the Petilil line was originally three stages (which stage wasn't confirmed, but middle seems likely)

Despite a massive amount of Gen 5 sprites being leaked, there were no additional unused sprites for the Petilil line found

However, Swadloon's earliest sprites show it with a white face, while the earliest Sewaddle and Leavanny sprites show them with yellow faces

The Petilil line, however, have white faces

Swadloon's early sprite works incredibly well between the two

Like, absolutely nothing is confirmed, but I will be thinking about this until the day I die
