🌙 New Moon in Cancer – Motherly and nurturing energy for healing 🌙

The New Moon is exact on June 25 at 6:31 am (EDT) when the Sun and Moon align in watery Cancer, the sign of the Mother and family. Cancer is the Mother, the womb, divine feminine, the sensitivity and intuition that we all carry within, that we need to start using to heal ourselves, others and the world.

Cancer reminds us to connect back to the cosmic Womb of all of the creation, the wombs that have birthed us, the wombs of our lineage and to create a safe space for our emotions to flow.

Cancer is the sign of the home and family, creating a nurturing space which soothes our soul and hearts. Take the time to be in ritual around this potent time and connect back to your inner home and Mother.

We are entering the second half of the year, and had a summer solstice recently that alchemises the yin and yang energy. This month, the northern hemisphere has a yang fire energy (in the southern parts of the world it is the water element). This brings a lot of external energy, while the Sun in Cancer asks us to slow down, go within, and connect with our emotional body. The New Moon in Cancer will start a new emotional cycle around the mother, The Mother, womb and the Womb, our sense of safety and emotional boundaries, our connection to children/ our children, and also our inner child. This is a great time to also connect to the Divine Mother archetype.

For now, rest, receive, just be – within the arms of the Mother, for healing and nourishment.

The last lunar cycle has not been easy—and if you're feeling bruised, scattered, exhausted, or raw, you're not alone.

🪷 A Simple Ritual for the Waning Moon

You will need:

A glass of cool water

A pinch of salt

A candle (white, silver, or blue)

Optional: mugwort, myrrh, or cedar incense

Ritual Steps (done at night, or in the hour of the Moon):

1. Light your candle. Whisper:

“I enter the waiting room of the Moon. I am safe here.”

2. Hold the glass of water. Say:

“I surrender my pain to the waters. What I cannot hold, I release.”

3. Place a pinch of salt on your tongue, or into the water. Say:

“I preserve my strength in silence. I heal in stillness.”

4. Breathe in incense smoke or stillness. Say:

“I breathe in the spirit of healing. I trust what is unseen.”

5. Sit in silence. Listen. Rest.

This is a rite of non-action, of unwinding. You are not broken. You are becoming whole.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon. The celestial body of femininity, emotions, intuition, beauty, cycles, transformation, enlightenment... So much powerful symbolism, the Moon. Cancer is at home in the Moon's energy.

Tarot card fact: It might seem strange, but the tarot card, "The Moon" **actually** represents Pisces. That's news to me! (I'm still learning, but hey! That's why I'm sharing so you may learn with me, also.) The Chariot card actually represents Cancer. The Chariot represents DIRECTION, CONTROL, and WILLPOWER (Rev: Lack of... and Aggression). Meanwhile, The Moon card represents the UNCONCIOUS (mind), ILLUSIONS, and INTUITION (Rev: CONFUSION, FEAR, AND MISINTERPRETATION).

I did pull the Queen of Cups, with the luck of the draw... The Queen of Cups actually represents the SUN in Cancer (so, in a nutshell, Cancer season). Eh. Close enough...? I only pulled what my intuition drew out. Queen of Cups represents COMPASSION, CALM, COMFORT (Rev: MARTYRDOM, INSECURITY, and DEPENDENCE).

The New Moon in Cancer occurs on Monday 17th July 2023, at 18:32pm UTC, and at 11:32am PST at 24 degrees, 56 minutes of Cancer.

This New Moon in Cancer has a deceptive quality to it; the Moon is at home and very comfortable, however the grand square, forming from an opposition to Pluto in Capricorn, and squares from Pluto, and the Sun and Moon to the Lunar Nodes, is acting like one final push for us to release what pain, attachment and fears we have held onto, and which may be residual since the eclipses on the Taurus-Scorpio axis. 

Also interesting to note is that whilst the Mean North and South Node have already regressed into Aries and Libra, respectively; the True Nodes (the exact point of the Nodes at the time of the New Moon) remain at 0 degrees of Taurus-Scorpio, for an hour or so before they regress into the Aries-Libra axis, so this grand-cross is an opportunity for a double release of emotion and energy (both from the Taurus-Scorpio axis, prior to the regression, and the Aries-Libra axis, following the regression) which no longer serves, and shadow work.

It’s also an opportunity to set intentions for the Cancer themes in your life; to call in blessings for more abundance of happiness, health, love, joy and contentment for yourself and your home.
