Rabbit aka PhonyMangaka Debunks Hbomberguy’s “RWBY is Disappointing Video” and explains why the Critics are wrong about RWBY. Part 2 of 2
Insert Monty Fight Here Spends a bit talking about how the animation and the writing of the show is set up between Monty, Miles, and Kerry.
Kind of hard to tell if he likes the general idea of it, because he's using an example of Ruby vs Roman and the Club thugs.
Seems positive
Alright so a problem he listed out was how disjointed the scene of the two teams getting the relics and "Running to live another day towards the cliffs"
But it just cuts to another fight were the teams have to engage with the Deathstalker and Nevermore.
And he got it very wrong
He claims it doesnt connect, but Ruby clearly says "make it back to the cliffs" and you can obviously see that's what they're going to do.
It's the deathstalker and the nevermore that are clearly chasing them that they are forced to fight. Just didnt pay attention?
"Character arcs tend to start and stop... Weiss was annoyed at Ruby being made a leader... During the test Weiss said she was going to be nicer."
I do agree with this somewhat.
The Weiss racism plot was mostly offscreen, and I would have liked for the friction between Ruby and Weiss to have lasted an extra episode, but I'm not too hung up on it.
However, this reading can be a bit surface level.
Yes, Weiss agreed to be nicer to Ruby however that was done bc SHE thought she'd be made leader bc she believes she is better than Ruby both bc of her age and her status as the heiress of the SDC.
So no, it makes perfect sense why she's annoyed, it's just dishonest of you to really paint that picture when all it takes is just watching episodes that aren't even 15 minutes long.
And another thing is. It's not that Prof Port told- her to just "stop it" as he puts it.
He basically dresses her down and shows her how childish and unreasonable she is.
Weiss does let her feeling's and headstrong way of thinking get in the way of her, but it's not like she WOULDN'T reconsider her ideals/values. This is the same- person that was okay with Blake being a former terrorist in the end despite the things that the White Fang did to her family and her social life growing up.
"All Weiss needed was a man in a position of authority to tell her off"
If Glynda did the same, the same thing happens??
Like yeah...
This is the same person that wanted to call the police and trusts them to do their jobs, of course Weiss listens to authorities and values their opinions moreso over her peers.
"Her character arc is about her dealing with her abusive and controlling father so it- comes across as gross that they would let this happen."
.......................
Are you seriously comparing Professor Port to her Father??
Is that what we're doing?
That makes literally 0 sense lol?
Miles and Kerry talk about how they view RWBY as cool kids and not just female- mcs.
And the reason why he brings up those clips is to basically... idk call them a hypocrite because they made jokes about Yang?
He mentions the time Miles tweeted the Yang vs Tifa fight and says "My money's on the hot one" and also Kerry saying "Yang is the happy joyful on Everything you want in a girl."
So basically using those two instances were they
1. Promote a Deathbattle video so they can get more views.
2. Have to explain who each character is on the team RWBY
Also please credit who you use for fact checking!
https://youtu.be/EmHM_0Mfe3g
That video was from @NerdCaliber from way back in 2013, not a bad interview and even if it was from way back then, i suggest giving it a like!
He now goes into Jaune and the Jaune arc. Which ok, once again I admit that a lot of people do have it's gripes with it. Gripes I can-
Very much understand.
If this volume was longer, and the episodes were too, I very much do believe that so many people wouldn't be so upset by it as they are.
The writing for Jaundice isn't bad either.
It's about a kid who gets bullied because he's weak but tries to deal with it on his own, despite the fact that he very much DOES need help.
We get to see his struggles and with the pep talk from Ruby and with him ACTUALLY standing up for himself in the end, it isn't as simple as "kill a monster that's threatening the bully and that's how you solve it"
As hbomberguy puts it.
It's
"You have to find the inner strength within yourself to stop being a doormat and stand your ground."
Jaune stands his ground, he gains that confidence, and he tells Cardin to never mess with his friends ever again.
He was determined and the facial expressions really hammered home to Cardin that Jaune isn't going to fold to him or his team anymore.
For the last time, I agree that it's weird to put it in the middle of an already short volume with very small run time.
Honestly RWBY SHOULD have had more to do in this Volume-
That I think could have been spent with Weiss's racism and her preconceived notions about the White Fang and those in it as well as just Faunus in general be explored in seeing how she deals with it.
That WOULD have been better and I admit to that fully.
"Penny and Sun just appear... Nothing you could have cut to establish these characters."
Tbcf, Their introduction is fine.
Sun hopping off of a boat that he illegally boarded?
Just Sun things.
Penny getting knocked over for standing in the middle of an alleyway?
Just Penny things
Like he said. it's the last two episodes.
They can be built upon more in the next few volumes.
It's like saying "Why is Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury are in the last episode.
Surely you couldn't have cut an episode or two to introduce them" those are ACTUAL side characters.
JNPR actually has importance over any of the tertiary cast.
Says things I agree with, like production being disjointed.
Don't really agree with the sentiment that the show isn't cohesive.
If anything, I feel like the volume is just too short. If CRWBY were to redo it today Most of the complaints would be nonexistent, obviously of course.
But that's what happens when you have more than when you first started out with.
"Lets not assume this is author self insert wish fulfillment... It's just really weird you picked Neptune... gets into love-triangles with female characters that you write... Just feels weird."
Like... Just say you think it's author self insert wish fulfillment.
That's obviously the picture you're painting.
You're literally not doing ANY amount of nuance to even dictate that you think differently.
The pussyfooting is just lame.
Like also implying Kerry is a creep because "Neptune hangs out with Yang" going back to that old interview were he calls Yang "anything everybody would want in a girl" with then a cut of him saying "she's 17".
Bro just stand your ground and call him a creep.
Because that's LITERALLY what you're trying to get at, at worse or Calling in his behavior as questionable at best.
Both of which, is so demented.
Considering it was Monty (the guy you're dedicating this video too btw) told them which character they'd voice.
Raises points about naturalistic exposition in regards to the prom and how it's all about prom (ignoring the B plot with Yang and Blake too I might add).
Major complaint though is that he feels like there's no plot going on... Which is the actual point?
The "plot" is being halted because Yang basically getting Blake to stop overextending herself with the White Fang and to chill out.
They're still KIDS, much like how Ozpin told Glynda.
They can have a moment where they're embroiled in small scale drama of love triangles and prom.
Besides, the end of the episode is still a thing, where the CCT is broken into and Ruby discovers a certain shadowy figure in that room.
Things are still happening.
The prom was a great excuse for the protagonists to chill for ONE night before a mission and the antagoinsts- to do some dastardly devious machinations.
Claims Ruby fell into the plot, ie Mount Glenn, but also conveniently ignoring the worldbuilding (the same thing he harps on about earlier in the video) that explains Elder Grimm and what happened to the people of the settlement.
And the narrative reasons is that it's an old decrepit settlement, so of course their would be sinkholes.
Though, it's moreso a flimsy defense so yeah I could see why he wouldn't like how that happens.
But it also bugs me that he never mentions what happens BEFORE Ruby fell.
I don't really see the need to really complain about "it has a working rail system?!?!?!"
I mean yeah?
We don't know how long they've been planning this sort of invasion, but with all the material they gathered and the helping hands around them.
It's not farfetched to think- They could get it working.
Especially since the railroads weren't really messed up.
It's just, a nothing complaint imo.
And it definitely is organic??
Like what's more natural than
"Hey uh theres a bunch of terrorists and Roman Torchwick getting on a train leading to Who knows where. How about we board it and try to stop them?"
I mean that's a pretty damn good reason to get on the train.
One thing I can say about hbomberguy.
He will praise the ever living fuck out of Monty and Shane's animation.
(deserved mind you).
But will leave no room- for Miles and Kerry to even BREATHE.
This man has his foot on both of their necks and just keeps applying pressure like, damn dude
"It's objectively an awful song."
YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH THERE WILL BE NO CAFFEINE SLANDER AT ALL YOU VILE BEING!!
IT'S ONE OF THE BEST RWBY TRACKS AND I WILL NOT STAND FOR YOUR NEEDLESS MUDSLINGING!!!!!!
Also, if we REALLY wanna talk about side casts...
CFVY, depsite how fucking cool they are, are the literal definition of a side cast.
They came in, kicked ass and took names like fucking bosses.
They didn't need a whole biography before they came and what is it with people- mainly critics and youtubers, who believe every single person in the universe needs whole entire episodes and dialogues to understand every single character in existence.
Like damn maybe we should give Tock a backstory too
"Who is this guy, what are his-"
Bruh it's not THAT deep
"That's the story????"
Huh???
The... The story is that they "stopped" whatever plans that the White Fang and Roman have cooked up.
Like, this is all a set up for the end of Volume 3 where the complaints you're bringing up DO have consequences.
Because of the Grimm invasion- Atlas is allowed to bring in it's robots and even more of it's warships...
Know what happens next???
Exactly.
It's bread crumbs.
A domino effect.
Where things are leading up to the bigger picture.
"There is no build up for Velvet to put away her weapon at Coco's request bc-we haven't seen it".
No it's to keep the audience in suspense/garnering hype to what exactly Velvet's weapon could be. It's not supposed to be revealed just yet, but later on in the story.
It wasn't meant to be a joke or a play on OF a joke.
It's just a story beat/reveal.
"It doesn't feel right to speculate."
But spends a minute and a half speculating that Coco and Velvet were supposed to have bigger roles in the story because of how long and how much effort it took to rig her and fan submissions too.
Uhhh... Maybe that's just... How rigging- goes???
I'm pretty sure there were efforts similar that went into RWBY, JNPR, Sun and Neptune, Neo, etc.
Not everything has to be this big/large grandiose purpose you're trying to place on these characters.
And even if they were, ideas and plotlines DO get scrapped many times Through production, either because it doesn't fit, or because they wanted to do something else entirely.
But this is ALL speculation. You and me both are doing that.
He ends off this segment by saying that this was all production and execution angle and how the fights are great and everything else sucks and how it's mismanaged and poorly connected.
Even though I've gone through his "connections" and just found that he wasnt paying attention to most of the scenes and the dialouges is both funny and frustrating.
"Two full seasons of teething problems" yeah that's true.
I mean yeah lol, not gonna fight that there.
Are... We really comparing this too Jojo's??
Oh.. We are?? Aight then
And now we're comparing it to Cowboy Bebop.
just about the first robbery scene and characterization and things like that...
But... Have you ever considered that... maybe, just maybe, they were doing two different scene. If you're going to sit here and try to rag on- RWBY for "not understanding how the robbery scene works."
Then that sort of point can be used across every single piece of media that has a robbery scene in it. And even then you still were able to get basic things out of her "it's not much" and??
You still have about, 9- volumes worth of content to get to know more about her.
"It's all coincidence driven story."
There isn't just one way to write a story bomber. literally, if you want to watch Cowboy Bebop so much then go rewatch it.
These shows set out two different types of vibes.
Not- Everything is 1 to 1. Just a lot of nitpicks mainly.
Nothing really substantial is said here besides just ranting about Ruby's lack of characterization. Blank Slate, making a stab at her for liking books.
Like, I dunno man, it's just cumbersome at this point.
So remember when I said it's going to be a 2 parter. I lied.
I only got through 27 minutes today and I'm already tired of this video.
SO part 3 tomorrow and that should be the end.
Goodnight Night City!!

Ok so, before I go to sleep. There's a thing that's been bothering me about people's reaction of team RWBY when they learned the truth of Ozpin.
Yang; the girl that was just recovering from PTSD, just fought the person that cut her arm and few weeks before that saw her bitch of a mom; had a honest to god valid reaction, like idc if she was too much or whateva.
Raven told her that Salem couldn't be reason with or defeated back in v5 and Yang shut her up, trusting Ozpin and Qrow. The fucking reason why Raven left was because she was afraid. This kid has to learn all that her bitch of a mom told her was true, that she didn't lied to her and the worst of all? That's the reason why she just left her.
Then Blake has to learn the White Fang? All the racism, everything she fought all her life? Has a fucking reason and that's all the Ozpin and Salem fight.
Like, they are traumatized children that learned something that directly affected their lifes, specially Yang and Ruby.
The whole reason why Raven left, Summer disappears, Taiyang depression, Qrow alcoholism, all are directly affected by the whole war between Ozpin and Salem. We are talking here of two kids that were stolen a better childhood.
So yeah, Ozpin had it so badly and it sucks how his trauma was display like that without his consent but at the same time this is something that affected at least Yang and Ruby even before they were born because it affected their entire family dynamics and relationships.
This affected Blake as well as a faunus.
The fact that Yang lost an arm, Blake had to faced her abuser, Weiss fought a bunch of Grimms and was in a war zone, Ruby saw Penny and Phyrra died because Salem wants Ozpin dead? Yeah, I would be pretty mad af too
#rwby#team rwby#ruby rose#weiss schnee#blake belladonna#yang xiao long#summer rose#taiyang xiao long#raven branwen#qrow brawnwen#team strq#ozpin#salem#bumbleby#this is like few years late but it kinda bothers me how people are still upset with yang reaction of learning the truth abou salem and ozpin#this affected her personal life is a really direct way#same with blake and qrow

What made you like Whitley?
(Honest question, not trying to be rude or anything like that)
Ok, let me tell you with as much detail as I can. Because it feels like it just happened but it was more like something that started with indifference and climbed up bit by bit.
This is long so if you don't wanna read it, ok. It's basically me overanalyzing and defending a character since his introduction.
I've been watching RWBY since V2, I belive. I enjoyed it, not really my favourite show but still watching the episodes and when a new Volume droped I watched, nothing more, nothn' less. That was until volume 4.
Weiss was my favourite since the begining because in my eyes, she was a character with development potential, or more than anyone else. And I was particuraly excited when we would get info on how she was raised and her relationship with her parents to be explored. What I didn't expect was for her to have a little brother. To be fair none of us did.
So he was introduced, they talked, and that was it. I didn't think of him more until I watched the reactions to the episodes he appeared in. The reactors were so negative towards this character, one that did nothing but talk and be onscreen smiling or sneering. They dubbed him as evil, cunning, mannipulative and an exact copy of Jacques. And I couldn't understand why, I re-watched his scenes to try and comprehend this point of view and came back the same if not in more disagreement than before about this.
I studied his character, unintentionally, but still. The conclusion at the time remained the same, 'An annoying little brother', period. Because he did nothing! I wasn't going to hate or dislike a KID character whose roots and backstory is almost the same as Weiss's (Who was very snarky and racist, but got better at the end), and couldn't deffend himself much less get out of a toxic household.
I'm the fourth oldest in a family with 8 children, I know what is like being both a little sibling and an older sibling. So his behaviour wasn't anything grand I just saw him as any little sibling would act, but with that tense and cold layer on him, and not the warm teasing or just the kind of teasing that a sibling with a normal relationship would have. The more I looked and wondered the more I sympatized with him and could see that something in his personality was off.
I watched videos of people deffending him, found myself agreeing with them and next thing I knew, V4 already ended and he took the spot of my favourite character that was meant for Weiss.
That's why I was so happy by V6 when it was confirmed that in V7 they would arrive at Atlas. I wanted to see more of his interactions with both his family and co (strangers to him), I belived that by watching him have a conversation with someone he didn't know, wasn't from Atlas and didn't get why he himself was such a big deal, would give me more info on how he acts when his normal defences don't work on people like that. And maybe, just maybe see how he truly is.
That didn't happen but thanks to mama Schnee's 'don´t forget about your brother' we got another kind of info from that little sentence. One that most of whitley stans already knew but it was confirmed for the whole world to see. Whitley Schnee is a victim of abuse too.
So that's it, that is why I like Whitley. The slow burn, draged out plot of development that this backround kid character managed to get his hands on was more entretaining that whatever speedrun romance Blake and Yang had (I like bumblebee, just not how it was constructed, srry). And I'm looking forward on seeing more, because he hasn't even begun to heal or properly develop yet.
So yeah, sorry this is so long. I understand and respect if you don't like the character tho. I'm just here having fun.
#I WAS going to say something like#i like him bc he's an interesting character but I was like 'no'#'let me go off'#right behind him is Mercury's backstory#i crave the fight scene betwen him and hisfather#i feel like i repeated myself over and over#i hope my point came across#whitley schnee#rwby#rwby volume 8#rwby volume 7

https://rwbyconversations.tumblr.com/post/626550438587678720/the-scarlet-letter-lets-talk-about-rwbys-male
Can’t even say I stan RT since I helped in developing your own break in RT’s abusive business practices.
So let’s start with a blunt statement: RWBY’s male LGBT representation has not been good. If the series’ handling of female LGBT rep is good (which… well there’s worse shows) and the general standard for how you write LGBT characters in a show like this, its handling of male rep has been… how not to. And Before the Dawn kinda solidified the idea in my head that the show’s handling of its male LGBT cast just isn’t good enough, either by the standards of when RWBY began in 2013, or today in 2020 when compatively massive steps have been taken over the past decade to show a more diverse list of characters… or at least a more diverse list of female characters.
So how do you make good male LGBT representation? If we’re talking about how something is done badly, you’d think some ground rules would be established. ... Yeah, he never does that.
It’s big romance is (unless the writers are very stupid) going to be between Blake and Yang, their first out character was Ilia, Coco got sent to the Book Dimension where she confirmed “I use my sunglasses to perv on women without their knowledge” which uh… yeah you can definitely tell RWBY is written by men… and Volume 6 had Saph and Terra being a good example of an LGBT couple without any real drama. In the last three years alone, the show has drastically increased its lesbian and bisexual characters, alongside even including its first out trans character in May Marigold (albeit only revealed on Twitter). In general, these depictions of sexuality have been pretty OK. Would have liked it if Ilia wasn’t immediately written out of the show after Volume 5 as it made her feel a bit more disposable than intended but whatever, subject for another day.
A. What examples do we have of Bumbleby being canon? One or two animation things and voice actors? Cool, when’s White Knight becoming canon.
B. I’ve heard Barbara say similar shit. Acting like that’s a male thing is fucking sexist.
C. I’m sorry but by every single standard of LGBT writing I’ve heard-wouldn’t they be considered tokens and flat caricatures? Since they’re so irrelevant and have so little character? They’re barely even characters INCLUDING their kid.
Sorry but considering how there’s no ground rules made for what is good LGBT rep- I can only go off what others have said. And so many, OVERWHLEMINGLY MANY, people have said Saphron and Terra aren’t good.
D. Okay the Illa thing is yet another example of why ground rules need to be set. Saphron and Terra BOTH are written out in Volume 6 so wouldn’t they get chewed out too? What makes Illa getting written out different or more disposable?
RWBY’s male rep though is a bit spottier. There’s the plant bois in Volume 5’s premiere, we nearly had Pilot Boi until some last-minute revisions, and… Scarlet.
Look about the same as the female LGBT audience to me. Why is this so bad?
“Why Scarlet’s a bad launchpad for male LGBT rep”
I don’t like Scarlet or how his sexuality has been handled. Scarlet’s homosexuality wasn’t revealed in the show, or by the writers, or even in anything that’s actually canon. He’s confirmed gay in his sole of dialogue in a non-canon fan anthology, where the manga’s Twitter team had to say that Miles suggested the idea and approved of it.
In short, Scarlet is Dumbledore’d, where his sexuality is revealed in out-of-show material and in a way that doesn’t make it supremely obvious (Miles himself never commented to confirm this so this news was limited in how far it could spread. I’m genuinely curious how many people still don’t know Scarlet’s gay), and Scarlet himself is a nothing character who was written out of the show after Volume 3 and only reappeared in Before The Dawn, half a decade after he vanished. Compared to Ilia, as this came out after Ilia’s entire arc in Volume 5, it’s not a great starting point for mlm rep. But things would have been forgiven if it had gotten better, if the show did have more male LGBT characters introduced, even just on the Saphron/Terra level of just being around for a few episodes before leaving. Then it would have been a misfire but then we could all say “Things got better.”
Why should I care?
See, part of the job of a critic is to make the problems understandable to the audience. I emphasized ground rules because it gives the reader a base level understanding of what constitutes as good in this case. Why should I think Scarlet is bad when Saphron and Terra are on the same level and you said they were at least acceptable?
It… didn’t. Which is why when Before the Dawn released in 2020, a full two years after Scarlet was first confirmed gay, while the franchise had more than doubled its wlw rep, Scarlet remained the one male character in the entire franchise who had a name and liked men. I remember vividly a fake leak for After The Fall which claimed Yatsuhashi would come out to Velvet and admit to having a crush on Fox. And I remember as well how many people were disappointed when it was said to be false, because it would have been nice for Yatsuhashi’s character, especially after the fleshing out he gets in the CFVY books. If Yatsu had come out as gay in the books I’d like his writing enough to say he’s a good case for rep, albeit with the caveat of “This is all in side material.” But in reality, the leak was fake and Coco was confirmed gay instead.
I remember the same leak. Yatsuhashi also disappeared at the same time and even if he was fleshed out-he’s still irrelevant to the show so wouldn’t he be bad? And if it’s about having fleshed out characters, why did Illa whose a fully realized character get shaded while effective background characters praised?
Unfortunately, Before the Dawn proceeded to ruin Scarlet and made me at times feel genuinely uncomfortable as a queer man! Let’s talk about that.
And people said the same about Saphron and Terra and people get backlash for praising them over other lesbian characters.
I hate Before the Dawn. It’s… bad. I read it while on a vacation and the only solace I had about the entire thing was that I’d bought an M&M chocolate bar. The bar was finished before the book. That bummed me out. It’s not a very well written book, the prose is very Early 2010s YA Writer, none of the characters are memorable and there’s various Fun Incidents like “NGDO using children as bait for Grimm,” and “Neptune’s hydrophpobia being used as a threat to torture him and the scene is played for comedy.”
A. NDGO is repeatedly shown to be massive assholes in the book.
And B. I can’t really find anything wrong there. In one of my favorite shows, Justice League Unlimited, criminals get threatened with actual torture and even death and it’s treated as a joke. Yeah the context is different in that the victim are criminals but both the villains and Neptune get over it so quickly I see no real problem here. Especially since Jaune’s own low self worth was a joke up to Volume 5.
Theo was cool. I can’t wait to see him as written by good writers, he should be a highlight of the Vacuo arc.
Don’t go blaming E.C. Myers for this- Miles and Kerry helped. You’d have to call them shit writers too.
I had two hopes for Before the Dawn- “Don’t be bad,” and “Let Scarlet and Sage be well written.” I’d liked how After The Fall had handled some of its characters (barring, y'know, Coco perving on women), especially Fox and Yatsu who were surprising in how much I liked them. I was looking forward to seeing Myers give Sage and Scarlet similar treatment- two relatively nothing characters meant he’d have a blank slate to write them however he wanted, he could give them unique personalties and if nothing else it could be cool to see their Semblances.
You know how frustrating it is to see people blame Miles and Kerry for shit that Monty had a hand in and may have even been responsible for?
Yeah well we finally found the flipped version-
Miles and Kerry worked with Myers on the book. Just as Monty is just as much at fault as Miles and Kerry, they’re just as much at fault as Myers.
And then I read the book. (Sage fans I am so sorry for you, you got baited harder than Johnlock fans)
I thought we were talking about male LGBT rep.
Scarlet’s a giant dickhead in the book. It’s his sole character trait and his inner monologues go on, and on, and on about how much he hates Sun, how he revels in mocking him. Most of his dialogue is sarcastic put-downs about Sun and how lame he is, and Sun is never properly allowed to defend himself or point out how going with Blake meant he was able to help save Haven Academy.
You mean like how character criticized Yang for being so reckless even though she was trying to save Blake?
It shouldn’t matter what the intent or results are- Sun and Yang still did bad things and affected the people around them. They should be criticized, especially Sun here since A. He’s still doing it in the book, B. He hasn’t had any real flaws in the show which means his dynamics and interaction are limited and C. This addresses what people bitched at him about in Volumes 4 and 5 thus robbing them of the excuse to chew him out anymore.
(hey remember when Sun in Volume 6 expressly says to Blake “I was a bad leader for ditching Neptune and the others, and I need to work on that” only for Before the Dawn to have him staunchly refuse to accept that he let the team down? I don’t think Myers did but I do)
Remember how characters in RWBY don’t always learn their lesson, especially when it’s related to mental issues like...say....losing their parents and trying to run from their problems?
Also remember how MILES AND KERRY ALSO HELPED WRITE THAT BOOK?
Scarlet being a ratty bitch would be one thing if, again, the franchise had done more rep. He’d still be a badly written character, but it wouldn’t sting as much. But because Scarlet is still the only expressly confirmed male LGBT character in canon (the book teases that Nolan is gay but there’s never confirmation either way beyond him smiling at Scarlet), it means that he has to represent that entire ideal. So when the one gay man in Remnant is being an asshole and a snide loser, that means that by extension, this is how the franchise sees gay men. And that fucking sucks! I wanted to come out of Before The Dawn singing its praises, I wanted to like the book, but it was a massive letdown, especially coming off of the other big 2020 RWBY controversy involving gay characters.
Fun fact: LGBT people can be assholes.
In fact, Scarlet would be the ONLY LGBT character to be snide in the show. Kind of makes him unique in that regard. ...If he was an asshole in canon. When in canon, he’s portrayed as hurt and bitter over Sun’s repeated irresponsibility and doing what anyone would do in his situation.
So honestly, he’s pretty fucking human which I would praised BEYOND being LGBT.
Yeah. We’re doing this.
Remember, you choose to do all this.
Clover and Fair Game: Technically not queerbaiting. BUT:
But nothing. Once again, without any ground rules for what you constitute as ‘queerbaiting’- I only have myself to rely on. And just about every serious definition says Queerbaiting is baiting LGBT rep or pairings to get people to watch the show.
Issue? Not only was Fair Game not used to promote the show, there are other LGBT characters in RWBY. You can’t be queerbaited anymore than a straight person can be ‘straightbaited’ (We’ll be getting into SO MUCH MORE than this later...).
Let’s pre-empt this: Clover wasn’t queerbaiting, and Fair Game, while cool and I dig it, kudos to them for becoming one of the top 5 RWBY pairings on AO3 in one year that’s fucking impressive (I say with mild malice as an IronQrow main), never had a chance. The writing never seriously boosted it barring one interaction which was flirty (them talking in the lobby of the Schnee Manor), and everything else was out of show boosting through the social media teams and CRWBY hyping it themselves by saying they liked it. If you wanna blame people, blame the animators who went off-script with stuff like Kim Newman adding the wink as a deliberate nod to the Volume 4 waitress, or the social media team deliberately using the same policies for Fair Game as they do for Renora and Bumblebee.
So nothing I should give a shit about since marketing teams often work detached from the actual product and are notoriously CUTTHROAT.
It wasn’t Eddy’s fault that things escalated, and he himself has said that in retrospect, he should have warned people that this never had a shot.
But I can’t blame the Fair Game fanbase. Because Fair Game took off like wildfire. It came right as the fanbase began seriously asking for more male rep, Qrow’s pretty hot, and the Clover wink came right after the Great IronQrow Reawakening of November 9th, 2019. The rocket was primed, and they rode it to the moon. Finally, to these people, after seven years RWBY seemed to be doing something with mlm rep in show. People started getting into RWBY just for Clover and Qrow’s interactions. And if heroes were boring, Watts and Tyrian also had a fantastic dynamic that made Nuts and Volts one of the more popular villain ships overnight. Things seemed to be turning around! RWBY was remembering that gay men existed! You could hear the choir sing!
... You JUST said that show didn’t bolster the ship aside from one interaction (one that pales to the shit I use to say in private to fuck with people). It was obviously NOT meant to be a serious component of the show. If people got into a show for something it was never meant to stick to- it’s their own fault for when that part falls away.
… And for those people, that meant that episode 12 hit like Truck-Kun.
People got pissed. People were horrified. And it didn’t help that some members of CRWBY had said in the build-up that episode 12 would have some shots that made them nauseous (probably the Tyrian thumb thing) Out of context, it looked to these fans like CRWBY were basically laughing at their suffering, like they were saying “Lol, you thought you had a chance, get fucked, I hope your vomit burns on the way up.”
Yeah, Fair Game was never gonna be canon, and I think some people ran too far with it. But in the wider context of how desperate RWBY’s mlm community had gotten for basic crumbs of content? I can see why they’d run with what they had. The writers aren’t at fault for what happened, but CRWBY didn’t help matters. And that desperate mix of what felt like official backing from the crew, jokes about how cute the ship was, and the hope that finally the show would have onscreen rep? I can see why people ran with it.
Ah huh ah huh ah huh-
Now do that for the first three Volumes of the show with a bigger fan favorite, more build up and kill one half of it off at the end of the show’s big dark turn while the creators are even MORE unsympathetic.
Sorry but when compared to Arkos, this looks fucking minscule. And you invoked the Arkos comparison due to the numerous parallels. And just like with the Arkos fans, I’ll disregard this without a second thought.
‘But Mlm are STARVED for content-’
Then go somewhere else. I’ve been saying this to your Wlw AND Straight counterparts for years. You are not entitled to have ‘a meal’. The show didn’t advertise in universe around rep- That is not the point. This is like saying you hate nachoes because it dares to have chips instead of more toppings.
So why is the show more lackluster in depicting mlm characters?
I don’t think you ever answered that the question ‘is the show’s mlm lackluster?’ because you spent a third of this post talking about something you basically admit doesn’t count.
Money. Let’s be honest, most RWBY fans don’t care if the show doesn’t have good male rep. I’m willing to bet some of you reading this won’t care and just dismiss it as not being that big a problem.
I dismiss all the romance related shit as not being that big of a problem, so what?
I don’t think the writers care if the show doesn’t have good mlm rep because they’re not poaching that market. They’re after what they see as a bigger, more lucrative market, which in this case is female LGBT rep. That gets people buying games, watching shows, raising awareness and boosting awareness of your property, which means you make more money. In short: Two women kissing hits more markets and generates more attention than two men.
I’d believe that if not for the fact that there is barely any lesbian merch for RWBY, which would be the key way to cash in on that market and squeeze them for as much money as possible. In fact, there’s barely ANY shipping merch from Rooster Teeth. Rather unusual if they’re trying to cash in on a market.
‘Well what’s YOUR explanation?’
Easy: Misandry and moving goalposts.
Guys notoriously get shat on in the fandom more than women. Jaune is STILL being called a spotlight stealing MAry Sue and numerous people are siding against Ironwood because he’s a man. So making good male LGBT rep would just be inviting more pipe bombs in the mail.
And a large amount of people like to claim RWBY has yet to give GOOD female LGBT rep, constantly raising the bar to get what they want. And considering they make up the original hatedom in the show- they naturally hold more power.
Tl;Dr- You fucked yourselves out of good male rep by having male characters having any focus whatsoever be a death sentence.
Am I saying that Miles, Monty and Kerry deliberately sat down seven years ago and said “We’re not doing gay men because it won’t generate enough ad revenue and traffic to be worth the loss in revenue from homophobes?” No, that’s silly. But I’m saying that it’s less important for them, and it shows in the things that are small and add up. Things like Miles not verifying Scarlet’s sexuality or retweeting the manga account’s confirmation to spread the message (compared to how he enthusiastically confirmed Ilia being a lesbian himself during the Reddit AMA). It shows in how Pilot Boi would have been the first mlm character only to die in his second full episode until M&K were told about the Bury Your Gays trope. It shows in how Shannon believes that Ozma is “megaqueer” and Miles jokingly laughs it off instead of confirming it, leaving it to just be Shannon’s headcanon. It shows in how actor shipping is compared between the mlm and wlw ships, where Arryn and Barbara’s frequent pushes for Bumblebee are seen as “official confirmation that it’s endgame” while Michael and Kerry saying they enjoy Seamonkeys is treated as “well it would be cute if they did it, but they’re never going to.”
The whole point of AMA is answer questions, one of which was ‘is Illa a lesbian’ among SEVERAL others.
Yeah and Illa gets called a psycho lesbian.
Yeah and no other voice actor headcanon has been accepted. In fact, Kara pushes for White Knight and the writers don’t even so much as acknowledge that unlike Shannon. Also I dunno what ‘megaqueer’ means but his only on screen relationship was straight so that’s probably why it wasn’t confirmed.
Not the creators, don’t care.
I’m not gonna say anything like “CRWBY are gonna have Qrow end up with a woman like Robyn out of spite against the bad apples of the Fair Game crowd.” I’m not gonna say that I don’t think CRWBY cares about male representation in the series. It is, however, definitely a low priority for them, and because that leads to gaffes like Scarlet’s writing in Before The Dawn being offensive in his depiction, it only makes the contrast between the sexes all the more painfully apparent.
Again, the female side ain’t much better. Fuck, the straight side isn’t much better. This was never a focus of the show.
I’m kinda tired of waiting for Rooster Teeth to show that they do care about mlm. I’m kinda tired of RWBY’s male rep being written like it came from a 1993 time capsule where I have to enhance the screen to see a guy holding a sign of Sun’s abs or be content with the only onscreen rep still being the plant bois in Volume 5. I’m tired of how often the crew dances around answering basic questions about sexuality (and age, and birthdays, and heights, and so on) by treating it as a spoiler question, as if just wanting to know what way people swing would ever be a spoiler. I’m just… tired of all this. When the best mlm rep in Rooster Teeth’s history remains the two dads in Camp Camp who show up in a few episodes, that should say something really bad about your company and your biases (To say nothing of the recent Red vs Blue seasons and their blatant queerbaiting for Grif and Simmons and the whole can of worms that is Donut).
And their best rep in wlw according to some people is a psycho lesbian.
This is all just personal opinion that is next to useless without the basis needed for clear understanding. I don’t know what you would consider good male LGBT rep aside from a squeaky clean good guy...and many would decry that as condescending and unrealistic.
What can they do except ignore EVERYONE and just do whatever they feel like?
P.S. Someone’s representation is NOT their view on LGBT people. Especially since, as I have said, the reception of said rep can be outright contradictory.
I’d like to not feel like I’m borderline unwelcome because I’d like to see two men in this show kiss, and that the sole thing that represents people like me in this show is some British twat who complains about sand.
Oh fuck off. I’m also apart of a minority group (autists) and yet you don’t see me winging about how unwelcome I feel because there’s no autistic characters. I relate to characters like Ruby not because they have shallow autistic traits but because I constantly struggle with the same ideological dilemma Ruby does: the struggle to keep doing good in an uncaring, cruel world. THAT is what you should find relatable and welcome. Not something like sexuality.
I’d just like to feel like my sexuality isn’t a joke to Rooster Teeth (or at the very least, be like Donut and have it be a funny one). But at this point after the last few years? I feel like a very uncomfortable punchline to them. And it just sucks.
Cool-Welcome to club. You know, since EVERY sexuality has been used a punchline by Rooster Teeth.
Your sexuality should be the LAST thing that you use to find being welcome, especially with a god damn company. And you have no one to blame for your feelings but yourself here.
Your post is damn near useless and I don’t even know how honest that RT stuff is considering Miles and Kerry get away while E.C. Myers gets blamed for stuff you don’t like.

RWBY Ancestries Chapter 5 Part 1 of 3
* Hello everyone, here’s the new chapter of 2020. Sorry for late update and yes I know I’m evil for sliptting this chapter in three parts but I couldn’t find a way to include this chapter without it being too long to read. Also this will be interconnecting some characters we haven’t seen in this story. Hope you enjoy! *
*WARNING! Just a heads up we’re going to be seeing some sensitive material near the second half of this current part, related to abusive manipulation of family (Take a guess from whom) and if you are a victim of squeamish towards this kind of treatment I would advise skipping over the part I’ll mark as such ‘^^^^^^^^’, so be advised it gonna get fucked up.
- In Mantle, Wyvern Crash Site -
In a open space, a multitude of Atlesian Knights are shown to be dismembered, beheaded, and destroyed beyond any repair. In the middle of said destruction is the Grimm Queen looking very much disgruntled. Why? Well for one, she started the day with the best of news she had heard in over a millennium.
She found out that she had a descendant from her one of her once thought to be dead children and that they were in this kingdom. So naturally she wanted to meet the boy in person. Unfortunately she didn’t account for one important thing. She hadn’t left her castle in a very long time so....she got lost. One would think that with a kingdom with a flying city in the sky kingdom it would be easy to spot. Sadly that didn’t help much when said kingdom was in a land of mostly ice and mountains, so almost every landmark would look the same. Not to mention the fact of said kingdom to have multiple military battle stations all over the place, so she had a long time getting pass them all. She didn’t even attempt to attack them, since she was in a good mood, she was simply going to ignore them. Too bad the Atlesian military didn’t share such sentiment.
Salem: I swear I don’t know what’s more annoying. The fact the these machines share the same ‘shoot first’ mentality as their creators or the fact that they tried to bomb me out of the cursed sky!
Salem turns towards the Wyvern and sees it nursing its injury. Salem thinned her lips. This wouldn’t be good at all, with her only transport to this wretched kingdom not being able to fly it would prove to be a major setback. So with a sigh she approached said Grimm and placed her palm on the injury.
Salem: There, there my companion. Your time isn’t through yet. I still need your presence if I am to leave this place. So here’s a small comfort.
Her hand begins to glow a purple hue and slowly spreads throughout the Wyvern’s wings. Witb her magic she is able to heal the Wyvern’s injuries and makes them more durable, so that they wouldn’t be so vulnerable again. She removes her hand away from the Grimm and look towards it.
Salem: Good, good. Now I still require your assistance, I need to create a diversion of some kind to get those huntsmen off our backs. At least until I’m able find and separate my grandchild from the others.
The Wyvern nods in understanding, the Grimm begins to flap its wings and ascend to the sky.
- Meanwhile with Teams RWBY and JNPR -
Ruby: Ok everyone the Wyvern’s weaker now. So we can execute the next phase of the plan. Killing this Grimm and saving Mantle!
Blake: I have to admit this has been going to plan far more easily than I originally thought it would be.
Yang: Come on, Blakey! It’s us we’re talking about here. We probably just haven’t got the chance to really see how we’ve improved since coming here.
Weiss: Not to sound the skeptic, but Blake does have a point. This is going far too easy than what was originally planned for.
Ruby: What do you mean Weiss?
Weiss: I mean does this feel like the night that Beacon fell when we first saw a Wyvern. Shouldn’t we have gotten reports of multiple Grimm attacks all over Mantle and not just the Wyvern.
The group was silent after the former heiress made her point. It was true, they hadn’t seen any more Grimm besides the Wyvern showing up. The also haven’t heard any reports of anymore attacks going on over the comms. If such a massive Grimm like the Wyvern were to come to the kingdom, why wouldn’t others follow?
Ren:(Whispering) Something doesn’t feel right? The Grimm have never been this easy to take down. It’s almost like it wasn’t even fighting.
Nora:(Whispering) Ren, what do you mean? We saw the Wyvern attack the battleships when it got to Mantle.
Ren:(Whispering) Maybe, but back at beacon when the Wyvern first appeared their was a sense of dread in the very air. But I don’t sense that right now.
Nora:(Whispering) I guess I see your poi....have you noticed that fearless leader’s been acting strange.
Both look towards the direction of their blonde leader and they see that he seemed to be staring off to space again, almost like he was in some form of trance.
Ren:(Whispering) Now that you mention it he does seem unfocused. You don’t suppose he suffered any head injury when he landed on the building, do you?
Nora:(Whispering) He seemed fine from the landing though. But I think he’s been like this even before the meeting started.
The two of them have finally had enough time to question the subject before they confront their leader on his state of being. Being the more negotiating of the two, Ren lightly grips his leaders right shoulder. Unfortunately, Jaune was it paying attention towards any of them as he still seemed to be in some form of trance. Hearing a voice only he can hear.
???: Jaune, where are you?... Jaune?...Jaune?...come to me...
Ren: Jaune?! (Shaking his shoulder hard)
Jaune: Gah?! What!
Jaune looks towards his friend and sees that he has a very concerned look on his face. So does Nora and Oscar for that matter.
Jaune: What happened? Why is everyone looking at me?
Ren: Jaune you have been unresponsive to us for the past five minutes. Like you were standing dead. What’s going on with you? And don’t say it’s nothing because you were acting like this even before the mission started.
Jaune: I...something’s wrong...
Ren: What?
Almost like a crazed man, Jaune leapt towards the cockpit. Once inside the second pilot takes notice of him.
Pilot 2: Hey, you’re not supposed to be back here!-
Jaune: You need to turn us back right now!
Pilot 2: What? What’re you on ab-
Pilot 1: OH SHIT! TARGET ON SIGHT! TARGET ON SIGHT!
Both the pilot and Jaune see the Grimm Wyvern flying towards their ships at a very quick pace. Jaune sees this and moves quickly back to the main deck towards his teammates. But alas there was no time
Jaune: Guys!!! BRACE!!!-
Just then, as he was warning his friends the Wyvern struck the airship. Using its new armored wings, the Wyvern hit the two airships with a mighty flap of it’s wings, causing damage to the transports that contained both teams. The resulting collision caused both the airships to lose stability and the began falling out of the sky. One of the pilots see that they had lost one wing entirely, making them spin uncontrollably.
Pilot 1: EVACUATE! EVACUATE THE SHIP!
Pilot 2: WE DON’T HAVE TIME I CAN’T STABILIZE!
Pilot 1: EVERYONE BRACE!
*CRASH!* *EXPLOSION!*
- Atlas Academy, Battle Room -
Ironwood: Blue Hawk! What is your status, Blue Hawk! Gold Eagle do you copy!
Comms: *///Static///*
Ironwood: Damn it! (Slams his desk)
Qrow:(On Comms) Ironwood! What’s going on, did something happen!
Ironwood:....We just lost contact with both team RWBY and JNPR.
Qrow/Winter:(Both on Comms) What?!
Ironwood: It seems the plan didn’t follow through.
Qrow: Well that’s obvious enough! I’m going to go look for them.
Ironwood: No Qrow! You need to stay in position, I can send a team to look for-
Qrow: They won’t get there on time! Jimmy we both know that I can make it there much faster than you can assemble a rescue team. My nieces are out there, god dammit!
Ironwood: Qrow I know how much this means for you, but you need to think more cautiously. What if they are stuck under a building, there won’t be anything you can do to help them, this is why I have rescue teams for.
Winter:(On Comms) Sir with all do respect but our forces are stretched thin as is, and we still have a Wyvern flying around the kingdom, I think it would be quicker if to send a two man team.
Ironwood:...What do you have in mind Specialist.
Winter: (On Comms) Sir, send both Branwen and I to recover the teams. With my semblance I can easily be able to aid the teams if they are in any position where they are immobile. Just lend us a pilot and a ship to retrieve both teams.
Ironwood: That would be more faster than assembling a rescue squad in the middle of all this. Very well, I’ll have my forces keep the Wyvern occupied while Qrow and you retrieve both teams. But exercise extreme caution. We don’t know if this Grimm is intelligent enough to prey on smaller ships.
Winter:(On Comms) Understood Sir!
Ironwood: Ironwood out. (Turns off Comms) ...please be safe.
- Schnee Manor -
From inside the office of Jacques Schnee, said CEO was scrambling to get a scroll message through to his secret informant. Saying that he was more than ‘unpleased with the current situation’ would be a understatement.
Jacques: Arthur! Arthur! Answer your Scroll, damn you!
After for the sixth time of not receiving any response he threw the scroll towards his bookcase with a snarl, almost breaking the device on impact.
Jacques: Damn that man, why can he never be around when you need him! ‘Huff’
Originally their partnership was intended for the goal of making sure that he won the election despite his low poll numbers and keep his position on the council, frame Ironwood, and beat that vigilante leader Robyn Hill and her group of thieves. But what does he get instead. A GODDAMN WYVERN ATTACKING HIS KINGDOM AND THE DAMN CHEEKY BASTARD NOT RETURNING HIS CALLS! Was this the plan from the start to let him into his fold and then frame Jacques with this occurrence instead. His anger started to turn to paranoia.
Jacques: If somehow Ironwood gets word that Watts is alive and that I tried frame him, he’ll have me outcasted as a traitor....No he wouldn’t do that I’m still a member of the council and he has no proof that we tried to sabotage the election....but what if he catches Arthur, where does that leave me. I need to do something.
Jacques Schnee look towards his old portrait of a much younger looking version of himself. That was taken back when he was an ambitious up-comer in the business world, where he was able to skillfully manipulate his way to power through forming a close bond to the late Nicholas Schnee, the original founder of his company and the father of his wife and grandfather to his children. He helped the old fool during his last days, getting on his good side and persuaded him to have him take over the company and marry his only daughter. Clearly a masterful manipulation to win over the foolish old man.
While he may have been the eager and ambitious opportunist back then, he clearly knows that he was not the same man as he was back then. Where there was a youthful man full of vigor to Turing a small dust company into a empire, now resides a frail old businessman much out of his prime. While he was CEO of the largest company in Remnant, he no longer could intimidate his opponents with his power plays.
Not even his two oldest daughters considered him intimidating anymore, the former latched on to Ironwood’s side and the latter leaning on her new ‘family’ for support. While he still had Whitley under his influence, he didn’t see his own son being anything more than a tool to extend his control over the company. While the boy was obedient, intelligent, and talented in musical instruments, Whitley would never live up to his standards. While he spend many years having him and his other siblings to learn how the economic world works, only Whitley took those studies seriously. However, he could plainly se that the boy was much too eager to please and did not have enough spine to ever question why he was told to do certain tasks, didn’t help that he was much like his mother in demeanor than how an actual boy would act his age. The perfect pawn, but only that. His wife, Willow, was a shadow of her former self. He knew that if he didn’t break down the woman so much to the point of alcoholism, he would have never gone as far in life as he has. But alas he seems to have come to an end of his road.
There was no doubt in his mind that Ironwood will find a way to link this back to him and prosecute him in front of the council and he will lose everything, while Watts is able to walk invulnerable to any charge due to his powerful connections and the fact that he is believed to be dead. So really there was only one option left for him that he could at least save some dignity left. He moves towards his portrait and pressed a secret button on the bottom center of the frame. From there the frame moved to the side and revealed a empty suitcase and a black box. This would ensure that he will escapes this unscathed.
Yes, the only option now was to leave. Leave Atlas and all this old life behind a live the rest of his days in hiding in a safe house he acquired a long time ago in remote island off the shore of Mistral. There he could live a relatively peaceful life and avoid any attempt against his life or imprisonment. At least with this black box he could still have connection to his secret bank account and still live like a king.
He grabs his suitcase and pockets the black box, then closes his secret compartment and moving the portrait back in place. Jacques Schnee will finish his career his way, and that won’t be in a cell. As he goes to leave his office he opened the door and there he finds his only son outside looking like he was about to knock.
Jaqcues:(Shocked) Whitley!- For crying out load you nearly gave me a heart attack. What are you doing standing outside my office!
Whitley: (Steps back and looks down) M-my apologies, Father, but I was coming to see if you were in your office.
Jaqcues:(Annoyed) Well congratulations, you’ve found me. Now step aside I have important business to attend to!
Whitley moves out of his Father’s path and watches him go down the hallway to toward the main stairway. He follows after at a close distance but not too close to be shoulder to shoulder but behind him. He observes that his father has a briefcase, much like the one he takes to go on a business trip but he hasn’t seen this one before. Another thing puzzled him though.
Whitley: Father, what exactly did you mean by having ‘important business to attend to.’ We’re in the middle of Grimm attack.-
Jaqcues:(Turns to side glance him) Did I say you could follow me boy.
Whitley: N-no, of course not Father! I meant no disrespect at all, I was just worried-
Jaqcues: Well you did just disrespect me, right now. You’re following me without permission and you are also talking aback towards me. If I were you, I’d watch my next few words.
‘^*Trigger Warning: Scumbag Jaqcues Imbound**^^^^^^^’
Whitley keeps his mouth shut and does not look towards him. Knowing better that it is foolish not to do as he wishes. When he is sure the boy wouldn’t question him further he moves back towards the stairs. But gets held back again from his son.
Whitley:...But Father where do you intend to go at a time like-
*SMACK!*
Whitley jolts back from his Father and holds right side of his face. He could feel the stinging sensation of his cheek getting struck harshly across his face, not only that he think the strike may have stuck his nose as well. Causing a small trinkle of blood to run down his right nostril. He could feel wetness forming from the corner of his eyes due to the pain, but they don’t fall. He looks towards his Father who just struck him and saw the dead eyes stare he gave towards him. Quickly he looks down, now too afraid to look at him in the eye.
Jaqcues: Didn’t I just say to watch your next few words... Answer me when I’m speaking to you boy!
Whitley: Y-y-yes sir.
Jaqcues: ‘Huff’ Now what do you have to say for yourself.
Whitley:(Hold back a sob) I-I’m sorry for di-disrespecting you F-father.
Jaqcues:...Look at me boy.
Whitley:(Looks at Jaqcues)
Jaqcues: Now what have you learned. Once again, for the eleventh time.
Whitley:... It’s f-foolish not to do a-as Father asks.
Jaqcues:(Nods) Now go clean yourself up before any of the help or your mother sees you. Or we’ll have a repeat of what happened last time when Klein was let go after seeing your correction for letting your sister leave.
Whitley:(Nods shakily, holding back more sobs) Y-yes, Father.
Jaqcues: Now you may leave.
Whitley turns around and heads towards his bedroom to tend to his nose. As he usually does. Alone, and holding back sobs.
Jaqcues: Such a waste of DNA. Maybe I should have had that operation to stop having children.
‘^^Trigger Warning Ended ^^’
Jaqcues now with this son out of the way makes his way down the main stairway. But once again he stops dead in his tracts, not by any of his help or family. Rather by a unfriendly looking group of people. Consisting of two youths, a Faunus, and a familiar looking bastard.
Watts: Hello Jaqcues. We have much to discuss. Hope you don’t mind us spending the night.
- End of Chapter 5 Part 1 of 3 -
* Oh lord that was hard to write, hope you all enjoyed the first half of the chapter. The second half I’ll admit was hard to write for me personally, so if you want to skip that part if you don’t wish to see sensitive material, please by all means skip it. Anyway I’m going to have part 2 uploaded around two days from this post so stay tuned. Be good people *

Ok here it is my Bumbleby Pokemon AU! I’ll be posting on Ao3 if you prefer to read there, should be a link on my page lol. Couple things, I did put some cheesy, cringey lines in cause why not, its based more on the TV show fights, yes Arcanine has 5 moves shhhh and also I know its Ember Celica but I’ve always pronounced it Cecelia and just found out I was wrong but Cecelia sounds better for a Pokemon lol. Anyways enjoy!
TW - Minor verbal abuse, Pokemon fighting
Ugh Tumblr mobile took out the keep reading sorry :/
"Give those Pokémon back!" Yang yelled at the team Plasma grunts. Her Arcanine, Cecelia growled beside her. Team Plasma had stolen multiple Pokémon out of the centre and what they planned to do with them she didn't want to think about.
"Hmph make me," the leader of the squad scoffed back at her, his voice echoing around the warehouse. His bright red hair was a stark contrast to the white mask he wore over his eyes and unlike other members of the team he didn’t cover his mouth, so his sinister smile was clear to see as he smirked down at Yang, riling her up even more.
"I don't have time for a runt like you. Deal with her." He waved a hand behind him and one of his subordinates stepped up beside him. She wore the same black and grey outfit that the rest of team Plasma had but without the beret. The lower half of her face was covered by the typical black bandana and, even though she was up on a container, Yang noticed a look of hesitance in her eyes.
"Adam this is -"
"Enough!" The leader, Adam, shouted and the girl flinched. "Do as you’re told and don't mess up." She nodded meekly and he turned around, his long trench coat sweeping behind him. He jumped off the large shipping container they had been standing on and motioned the rest of the grunts to follow out the back, the boxes of poke balls with them.
"Hey wait!" Yang stepped forward but the grunt who had been with him deftly leapt off the crate as well and stood in her way, poke ball already in hand. Yang scowled and Cecelia raised her hackles, moving in front of her protectively.
“Step aside, they’re getting away!” Yang yelled at her.
The grunt rolled her eyes saying, “Yeah that’s kinda the point.” This just made Yang even angrier but even with her heated blood she couldn’t help noticing how beautiful the girl looked, her silky black hair and lithe form…if they weren’t on opposite sides, she would be just her type.
Yang shook her head, she needed to focus, innocent Pokémon were being taken. “Alright if that’s how you want to play it, Cecelia, time to get fired up!” Yang took a couple large strides back, leaving enough space between the two girls to have a proper battle. Cecelia barked at the familiar command and got into a stance low to the ground ready to pounce at Yang’s word.
The Plasma girl raised her arm back and threw her poke ball like she was pitching in baseball, letting it fly in a high arc. “Come out of the shadows, Shroud!” The ball burst open in a could of black and an Umbreon appeared in the smoke with its shrill cry.
Yang could feel her excitement rise. This girl wasn’t the usual type of Plasma grunt, she clearly had proper skills. This was going to be a good fight.
“Before we start, what’s your name!” Yang called out. The girl looked confused but replied.
“Blake, my names Blake. Why?”
“Oh, I just like knowing the names of my opponents before I crush them.” Yang grinned wildly as she said that, feeling the excitement really starting to build. Blake just narrowed her eyes and the two stared at each other. Both Pokémon were ready to go, shifting with anticipation for the fight to come but the trainers were playing chicken seeing who would flinch first.
After what felt like an eternity it was Yang who pulled the trigger. “Enough waiting, Cecelia lets get the show on the road, use fire fang!” The Arcanine didn’t miss a beat and charged at Umbreon, roaring as flames spilled from her mouth.
Instead of panicking like most of the Plasma grunts did when they saw a flaming beast running toward their Pokémon, Blake stayed calm and easily instructed her Umbreon. “Shroud dodge, then use shadow ball.” Shroud bent her legs, quickly tensing her muscles before leaping into the air, easily dodging the larger creature and while at the height of her jump focused a black ball of moving energy in front of its circular mark on its forehead and then she flicked her head to the side launching the ball at Cecelia.
“Look out!” Yang cried, but there was little she could do as her Arcanine didn’t have time to stop herself, the forward momentum from her charge was too much and the shadow ball was a direct hit. Cecelia yelped in pain as she went slamming onto her side and growled in anger glaring at Shroud who had landed neatly looking down at the other Pokémon with a completely neutral face.
“Do you always charge in without a plan?” Blake asked, and even though Yang couldn’t see her mouth she knew she was smirking at her rookie mistake. She had gotten complacent facing off against weaker opponents, she thought gritting her teeth.
Yang huffed but grinned again. “Heh, I’m just getting started. Ce! You good?” She called out to her Pokémon who jumped back up, ready to fight with a bark, letting her now she was fine. Yang nodded. “Alright then, you want to see some proper moves, try this on for size!” She pointed up at the many shipping containers surrounding them, making sure Cecelia was following her finger. “Double team!”
Through the many years they had been together Cecelia knew exactly what she wanted her to do and leapt up onto the crate to her left before her body started shimmering and suddenly there were at least twenty Arcanines standing around the two opponents. Blake glanced up worried at the sudden number of enemies but regained her composure.
“They aren’t all real Shroud! Use dark pulse, weed out the physical one!” Yang gave a cocky grin at Blakes command. Just what she had hoped for, a stationary attack.
“You know the drill Ce! Extreme speed!” Blakes eyes widened but like Yang earlier could do nothing now, it was up to Shroud.
The two Pokémon began their attacks. Multiple forms of Cecelia charged for Shroud at a daunting speed as Shroud desperately tried to keep up, firing a beam of dark energy from her symbol but it wasn’t enough. Some of the fake forms started hitting her and she flinched at them expecting it to be the real deal.
“Keep it up Shroud, you’ll get her eventually!” Blake shouted out words of encouragement, but it wouldn’t be enough as the real Cecelia finally crashed into Shroud while she had been blasting another one. Shroud went tumbling and slammed into one of the containers with a yelp, landing on her side.
“Shroud!” Blake cried out, desperation in her voice. Yang was surprised by the fact she actually cared for her Pokémon. For a group wanting to free all Pokémon they were usually cold hearted toward their own. She really was very different from the other grunts, but this was a battle non the less.
“Let’s finish this Cecelia, flare blitz!” Cecelia’s mouth split into a fiery grin and she roared before charging at Shroud again. Her mane and tail erupted into even larger flames that practically engulfed her whole body and a stream of flames trailed after her as she ran for Shroud. Blake didn’t seem to care though. Maybe Yang had been wrong about her.
“Shroud, feint attack now!” Yang swore as she realised Blakes strategy. She played right into her hands, again. It was too late to call Cecelia off and she watched in horror as her beloved Arcanine went through a fake Umbreon. Cecelia turned her head eyes wide as she looked behind her to Shroud who didn’t even finish the attack, it wasn’t needed. Cecelia rammed into the metal container that Shroud had herself hit seconds before.
“Cecelia no!” Yang took a step forward as her Pokémon fell to the ground seemingly unconscious but after a few tense seconds flames burst out from around Cecelia and her brave Arcanine stood back up roaring in defiance. She looked rough but was not going to stand down, not when Pokémon’s lives were on the line.
“How – how is she standing?” Blake stuttered out, surprised at the Arcanines resilience. Even her Umbreon took a step back in shock.
“She’s standing because Cecelia knows what you guys are doing is wrong. She knows that taking Pokémon away from their loving trainers and shipping them off to Arceus knows where is wrong! I don’t know what lies that guy has been feeding you, but most trainers love their Pokémon and vice versa.” Yang gestured toward Cecelia and continued, feeling her emotions welling up. “We’re a team and if someone stole her away from me…I don’t know how I’d cope!”
Blake cast her gaze away, a grimace on her mouth and confliction in her eyes. She looked toward Should who turned her head toward her waiting for her next move to be given and Blakes brow furrowed. She looked back up at Yang her eyes glistening. “I have to do this!” She shouted balling her hands into fists. “Shroud, dark pulse again!” The Pokémon hesitated for a moment, not used to so much emotion in her trainer’s voice while in battle but quickly complied and turned back, focusing her energy in the centre of her forehead once again.
“Ce, give it all you got, flamethrower!” Cecelia roared in compliance and through her head back building up the fire in her mouth, some spilling out the side like water.
The two Pokémon let rip at the same time and the moves clashed in an explosion in the middle of their makeshift arena. The blast energy to ripple back and Yang threw her arm over her face to protect it from embers as the two beasts clashed, neither one wanting to give up. Both trainers shouted words of encouragement over the noise of competing powers and the beams blew back and forth, fighting for dominance, until there was a massive explosion as one of the two won out.
Smoke billowed everywhere and the two girls coughed as the cloud swept over them. Each girl anxiously waited for the smoke screen to clear. As it dissipated, Yang could feel the sweat on her brow and felt how hard her heart was beating. It had been a long time since she had a battle like this.
Now that most of the smoke was gone Yang could see the familiar orange glow of her Pokémon through the cloud, like a beacon in the night. “Yes, Cecelia you did it!” Yang ran to her Pokémon the smoke now only pooling around their feet giving them all a clear view of the winner and loser. Shroud was knocked out on the ground and Blake rushed to her side, skidding to her knees.
“Shroud no…” she whispered and picked up her small Pokémon cuddling her to her chest. Yang gave Cecelia a massive hug, the flames not burning her as Cecelia could choose who they hurt. Cecelia was always so warm and fluffy, she always lifted Yang’s spirits. Letting go she swung her backpack around and pulled out a hyper potion and sprayed it over Cecelia. It would be a few minutes before she was back to full health and she would wait until she was all better before moving on.
Leaving Cecelia to heal up she walked over to Blake who now had Shroud lying in her lap, stroking her head gentle.
“Here,” Yang said and dipped her hand in her bag pulling out a revive and a hyper potion and offering it to Blake. Blake looked up utterly confused and Yang gave her a soft smile.
“You’re not like the others. I could see that even before the battle. You actually care about your Pokémon and I know you probably thought that’s what those Plasma guys were doing.” Blake looked at her sceptically but took the items, once again proving she cares more for her Umbreon then she does her personal thoughts.
“What do you want then. You won and are now, what, pitying me? I appreciate the items, but I don’t know what you want.” Blake applied the medicines while she talked, and Shroud slowly opened her eyes blinking and gave a little yawn. Blake pulled down her bandana, letting it hang around her neck and lent over to give Shroud a kiss on the head and Shroud started purring and nuzzling into her. Blake gave a small smile at that and Yang was stunned at just how pretty she was now the bandana was down, but that was just one of the reasons for her offer.
“I want you to come with me. Help get those Pokémon back to trainers who love them just as much as you love your Umbreon.” Yang knelt down on one knee to be closer to Blake and the two were inches apart. “I know you want to do the right thing.” Blake looked at her wide eyed.
“I – I can’t Adam would -”
“Hey, don’t worry about that Adam guy.” Yang said reaching out and put her hand over Blakes, the one that was petting Shroud. “If we do this, we’re in it together and I’ll help you with him. He did seem like an ass, to be honest.” Yang shrugged while saying the last comment and Blake laughed sharply.
“Yeah you could say that again.” Blake looked down at Shroud again, she was cuddling into her and a few seconds of deliberation was all it took. She gently laid Shroud on the ground and stood up. Yang followed suit an eyebrow raised. At the movement Cecelia, now fully healed, bounded over and pushed her head under Yang’s hand, looking for rubs which Yang gave absentmindedly, currently focused on Blake.
Blake stood in front of Yang then stuck out her hand. “Ok Yang, I’ll come with you and help you take down team Plasma.” Yang cracked a huge smile and grabbed her hand giving it an enthusiastic shake.
“Thank you.” Yang said and her smile became a little smaller, a more personal one and she swore Blake blushed. Yang let go of Blakes hand and moved toward the exit Adam and the rest had left earlier. “Come on, we gotta catch up to them!” Yang called back to Blake, who went to catch up, both Pokemon trotting along as well.
“We’re facing him now!” She asked in shock.
“No, don’t worry the big boss usually leaves before I reach my current goal so don’t worry.” Blake sighed with relief.
“But I do hope you’re ready to beat these guys to a ‘Plasma’,” Yang said smirking to herself. Blake blinked and turned blank faced to her.
“Was, was that supposed to be a pun?”
“Haha, I see you do know the legendary art,” Yang said winking and Blake groaned rolling her eyes but Yang saw the small smile creeping its way on to Blakes face and she knew they were going to get on just fine.

My ‘Problem’ With Blake.
I’m not entirely sure of this is a problem or a Critisim on my part. It being a problem if I have no validity to my statement and is based purely on my personal feelings, while it would be a critisim if it can be seen as reasonable despite my personal feelings.
Now first off, I want to say that I by no means hate Blake Belladonna, the ship known as bumblebee, or have any real gripe with her that aren’t just harmless rips on her. I love all the menebers of Team RWBY bit of I had to rank them in any order, and total honestly the margin between them is so close its subatomic, it would probably go Yang, Weiss, Ruby, and Blake.
The only reason Blake’s 4th is because I personally haven’t felt a connection with her but that could change any episode now. And I also want to say that I really do love the show and find what they’re doing with Blake and Yang’s relationship interning, this is, putting it bluntly, just what I wanted and expected to see. Just because I haven’t gotten it doesn’t mean I hate the show or anything because of it.
What my ‘problem’ with Blake is......she left yang. Now look I know that she’s only human......well not really I guess....only Faunus? Is that the correct term? Never mind point is, she made a mistake and I got no problem with that, everyone does. No need to damn them for it, it’s only natural.
But Blake leaving Yang is different because, like she said herself in Volume 2, that’s all she tends to do when things get rough. She ran from the White Fang, she ran when they found out she was a Faunus, and she ran when yang got hurt.
Now obviously Yang’s injury isn’t her fault, I’m not saying that or implying it. But everything that happened after? That is entirely Blake’s responsibility, it was her own choice to leave without talking to anyone or explaining anything. She just bolted when things got out of hand.
And I don’t blame her for that either, that can be a natural response......but here’s what my gripe is. She’s done it before.
When we make a mistake, we learn from it. Voluntarily or not, but Blake keeps making the SAME mistake. But instead of being called out on it like Yang does initially, Weiss and Ruby reason that she has a good reason for it.
Now I get why they say this, for one thing Blake does have a reason for it but calling it a ‘good’ one can be debated. I mean Adam simply could have finished off yang just to spite Blake but that’s just a ‘what if’. But Yang’s reaction, that anger, is completely understandable.
Yang opened up to Blake and told her about Raven, how her leaving effected her so negatively. But in spite of that she still left.
And yet a talk with Weiss about loneliness (which I love btw) and suddenly she’s not as mad anymore? I understand talking about things helps out and it more often than not does but......it doesn’t change anything.
Look I’m not saying that I dislike what the shoe is doing with these characters, I love RWBY, hell i want to animate on rwby one day. But when I sit down and think of Blake and yang this just pops in my head and it gets me a little pissed.
And honestly it could be that I don’t understand how complicated the relationship is, I have trouble with social quest and such, so if I sound just plain spiteful then please tell me why I’m sleeping so I can try and understand.
But Blake still left, she feels guilty about it but that doesn’t absolve her of what she did. She left, knowing that Yang has been hurt by it before, and instead of staying and trying not to make the same mistakes she’s done before, she repeats them. And that just frustrates me because no one calls her out on it.
If if this sounds biased towards Yang’s side, that’s sort of the point. Could you say that if you where in Yang’s shoes that you wouldn’t be as mad, or that you would be on the same sort of ground as she is with Blake now?
I just want to keep in mind that this could very well change with any episode now. With how well they’ve been handling the tension between Blake and Yang I can’t wait to see the talk they share. Hopefully it’s soon too.
I really do love this show and it means a lot to me, Yang esoically because her story of picking herself up after a personal tragedy really hits close to home for me. That and we’re both older siblings.....not to a girl though, god I don’t know how I could handle that.
Finally I do want to say that I’m perfectly fine with not seeing any of this, it’s not like I’ll quit the show if it doesn’t happen. I’m honestly just used to people in Blake’s situation to just defy their ‘adam’ and stay anyway. But Blake’s story isn’t that, it’s one about abuse and how manipulation can affect someone and it’s great in its own right. And for how well these four stories weave into one overall narrative is amazing, bit this small part just kinda clases. Again that’s my personal opinion.
If you disagree I totally respect it, I just hope you treat me the same way. And if not......well....um....ok then.

I think this is incredibly thought out. And I can see this happening. I hope you don't mind if I add my interpretation of Winter Schnee.
Where to start? Let's go with Cinder. One of my favorite things in v7&8 is what they have done with Winter and Cinder. They parallel each other. Both following someone in power. Both promised the maiden powers through unnatural means. Both abused by an Atlesian. Both escaped that Atlesian and found themselves in similar situations. Both view themselves as being in control of their own destiny. Both of them actually not incontrol of that. Both have element powers. Both fight with dual swords. Both have green bffs that love them.
Then they have their differences. Where winter is White Cinder is black, literally. Winters colors are White blue and a dash of red, Cinder is black red and a dash of gold. Winter is Ice Cinder is Fire. Winter is cold and emotionless (tries to be) Cinder is passionate and angry. Cinder killed her abusers and the enabler. Winter ran from both. Cinder was never loved. Winter is. Cinders "siblings" tortured her. Winter had 1 sibling worship her and the other is unknown. Cinder is with Salem bc she wants power and Salem can give her that. Winter is with Ironwood bc she wants to do the right thing. Cinder treats emerald how Salem treats Cinder. Winter treats Penny like Weiss (always teaching them, Weiss with fighting and about emotions with Penny, and she let Penny when she let Weiss go)
There might be more, but these differences are just as important as the similarities. Bc this show loves to do this, they love to show how a villian and hero are so similar but so different. Cinder is an neglected orphan turned abuse victim turned monster. Why? Bc no one loved her. Nora was an orphan, ren was an orphan. Blake and Weiss were abuse victims. Yang was neglected. Why are they different? Ren and Nora had each other. Blake had her family and friends. Weiss had Winter and her friends. Yang has ruby and her friends. Cinder has emerald, but Cinder doesn't know what love looks like so she sees Emerald not as someone who loves her but as someone who worships her.
So, back to Winter. I think you make great points, and now that you've pointed them out i won't be surprised if it happens. However, I don't think this is the direction they will go. Annd one of the reasons is the Cinder parallel, even in v8 its happening. Cinder is realizing that Salem and the Madame are the same. The Madame had shock collars and Salem has the grimm arm. I think Winter is noticing the same with Ironwood. Shes not in control. Shes not the maiden. She is replaceable. And Ironwood wanted to control the Maiden, meaning her. She was selected bc Ironwood controls her. It is obvious now. Penny isn't going to side with Salem. She sided with Ruby. They are fighting to finish ironwoods plan. But Ironwood used Author Watts to hack into Penny, to control her.
Now, let's move away from Cinder. V7 is interesting when it comes to Winter. We have several key parts. The part with her and Weiss and the Maiden. Weiss asks her if Ironwood is really who Winter should be trusting. Winter takes a second thinks about this and answers. She tells Weiss they have no secrets so yes she can trust him. This from what we have seen is TRUE. Then WEiss asks if it bothers her that Ironwood has essentially chose her destiny. Winter responds with how at first it did, but then she has made it her own choice. Next, we have Schnee manor. Several things happen here. We finally see her around her father. And she is Angry and has an outburst. Which Jaques manipulates to make the general look bad. And then the general gets mad at Winter. Then she talks to Penny. She tells Penny she lost control and acted like a child. Penny told her that it was ok bc she was speaking from her heart. Winter says thats the problem. Thats when Penny says that she doesn't understand and walks away. In the part with her father Winter is shown by James and Jaques that Winter showing her emotions is a bad thing. But Penny the Robot tells her that she doesn't understand why this is bad bc she was speaking from the heart. Next we have the part with her and Penny going to get the maiden.
Winter: Weiss. What did you do?
Penny: The General is leaving Mantle to perish?
Winter: (sigh) He's saving Remnant. We can't let the Relics fall to Salem.
Penny: But all those people we just protected, they won't survive.
Winter: We don't have time to--
Penny: That doesn't bother you?
Penny: What about your sister? Our friends?
Winter: My personal feelings don't matter. We have orders. I'm to retrieve the power of the Winter Maiden so we can access the Relic. You're here to ensure my safety. Now come on. We've already lost enough time.
Penny: It should matter.
Winter: Penny. The general is making hard choices so we don't have to. For the good ofall, not just a few.
Penny: I do not see whatis good about any of this.
Winter: On that we can agree.
This part is interesting. Bc it shows this is how Winter trust ironwood. She trusts him to make the right choice even when its the hard one. Listen I don't think ironwood is making the right choice. But in reality this choice has been made time and time again. Its the utilitarian approach, save as many as you can. And leaders throughout history have made similar decisions. So do I agree with Ironwood no. But do I think its a bad decision, unfortunately no. He thinks he's doing what is best. And the Aceops and Winter trust him to make this choice. But with that being said Winter isn't blind. She acknowledges that she doesn't agree. Then we have the part at the end with Weiss. When she first sees Weiss she asked "what did you do?" This is interesting, bc she trust Ironwood to make the right decision. Which means that she is assuming Weiss did something wrong. She doesn't know what that is. Then we have her next lines "I suggest you all surrender and comply with the Generals orders" Weiss says no and then she says "then I suggest you run." Then they do, and Penny goes with them, and winter doesn't say anything. Shes hurt and Weiss wants to make sure she's ok. She could have easily manipulated Penny and Weiss into helping her. But what does she do? She tells them to leave. She does what the Aceops and Clover didnt. And she does this for Penny and Weiss.
Then in v8, Ironwood hacks into Penny, shoots a councilman, and has Qrow and Robyn in cells next to her father.
My points are Winter is a wild card and may be she goes to Salems side. But I can't see it. Bc she is realizing that the choice she made was the wrong one. She trusted Ironwood bc he didn't lie to her and she thought he could make the hard choices. And he did, then he made downright bad choices. Now He's compromised Penny. The question that has to be going through her head is what would he do to Weiss. Winter might even realize that Weiss would go home, but hasn't even suggested to check there.
I feel like I'm all over. I just have so many thoughts on Winter. And Maybe I'm biased and just want her to be good. But I just don't think she will be bad. May be bc she doesn't have a reason to go with Salem. Yes, Salem is manipulative. But shes manipulative to people that have no one. They are all loners and follow her for specific reasons. All of those reasons are selfish. Watts wanst revenge on ironwood and pietro. Tyrion is a serial killer who wants to cause chaos and destruction and sees her as a God. Hazel wants revenge on Ozpin for training children to fight this war. Cinder is the only one not alone. But Cinder treats her followers as Salem treats her, and you bet that Salem sees this. Mercury is new to her inner circle and honestly prob just a way to show Cinder that cinders things are Salems things. But Winter doesn't fit into this category. She has Penny and Weiss. And so many others. Qnd her motives are not ones that Salem would understand. I do think Salem could manipulate her into ditching ironwood. But not to join her.
I loved your thoughts tho! Very indepth and well thought out
Okay, so, I was antsy about making a post on this, because I’ve gotten, uh, virulent pushback for speculating along these lines before, but here goes:
I am super worried about Winter Schnee going into the back half of V8.
Because, look, we’ve got the pspsps and are ya defecting son and all those memes for a reason, we’ve seen very clearly that Emerald, Marrow, and Winter’s internal conflicts in particular seem set up to see them defect from their current sides. Emerald’s slow-burn redemption arc is finally coming to a head as she prepares to decisively turn against Salem, Marrow’s ability to tolerate what he’s become a part of is being rapidly overwhelmed, and Winter is…
To put it simply: a human disaster.
My concern right now (under a read-more because it’s long as fuck) is this:

why do you think sun and adam should fight? shouldn't blake and yang be the ones to fight him?
Ok I’m actually writing a long post about this because I genuinely do not understand why me saying “I want Sun to fight Adam” all of a sudden translates into “This means I want Sun to win the fight and Blake and Yang do not fight him at all.”
I want Sun to fight Adam, but I don’t think he would win, especially by himself. Realistically I think Sun could stand his ground for a while and serve as a great distraction while Yang and Blake get the better hits, but Blake and Yang are not going to defeat Adam on their own. I don’t care how strong and skilled they have gotten, the enemy grew powerful as well. And the set up for Sun vs Adam is too obvious and too good of one to pass up.
Blake vs Adam is a given. We know it’s gonna happen and we know it should happen and we know Blake is going to win. Yang vs Adam is gonna happen. Girl needs to get revenge on this guy for what he did to her, to Blake, to everyone at Beacon. Those are givens. Those are obvious.
Sun vs Adam does not defeat any of those purposes. It adds character development for Sun outside of Blake. It adds symbolism and depth to the series. It can honestly be a starting point to help fix what they fucked up with the White Fang in the first place.
I’ve talked about this a lot but there’s no secret that Sun and Adam are paralleling each other in opposite ways.
Sun and Adam are similar in concept; both are faunus, both are male, both are powerful, both are Blake’s love interests. But…that’s where the similarities end. And yet…they still end up paralleling each other.
Adam represents a very dark thing for Blake. Her fear, her sorrow, her guilt and regret, the shadows inside of her that hold her back. The blood she’s spilled. The blood she’s let Adam spill. He’s a huge factor for why Blake hates herself and constantly condemns herself. He’s unhealthy. He’s toxic. He abused her. He put himself and his ambitions above her, above his own sanity and morals. The Adam Blake once knew is gone. I know we wanna call him the beast but honestly? I think he’s more Gaston than anything lmfao. “My darling” like come on. That’s totally a Gaston line. But, allusions aside. Look at this.
A pretty bland and boring color scheme. Except the color scheme is…literally the same color of the White Fang’s current flag. The WF that crwby wanted to paint as terrorists. The WF that resorted to violence and crimes.
And then pan to the next shot. Look at Blake’s face.
We know what that flag stands for. We know what she’s thinking of when she’s looking at that flag. We know who she is thinking of. She is thinking of Adam. She’s thinking of who she was. What she’s done. What he’s done. She’s pissed. She’s angry and scared and tired.
Adam holds Blake back. And it’s no secret. He abused her. He was someone she loved. He probably genuinely loved her too. But we know how that turned out. But that Adam is gone. She’s known it for a while. That doesn’t mean it won’t haunt her.
He haunts her. He’s a venom, a poison that still runs through her veins. He represents what the White Fang is.
Sun is the complete opposite.
Sun is a faunus who didn’t really understand why the White Fang did what they did. He doesn’t get it. And coming from Vacuo, where people are treated the same so long as they can survive, it’s no wonder. The discrimination of faunus probably doesn’t exist in the same way in Vacuo as it does in Atlas, Vale, and Mistral. If it does, it’s not in the same violent, hateful method as it was in other parts of the world. Sun legitimately did not understand why the White Fang did what they did. Sun didn’t know his people’s history. He was never taught this. And if my theory about Sun being orphaned at a young age and having to raise a group of orphans by himself until an interracial human-faunus couple took them in is true or at least somewhat true then it makes sense.
He comes from a place where who the person is and what the person can do means more than what the person is and what the person has done.
Sun genuinely cares. He’s also quick to pick up on things and see past disguises (which is why I’m a little sad crwby didn’t use him being able to see past bullshit when Yang was accused of breaking Mercury’s leg unjustifiably). He instantly recognized that Blake was a faunus. That’s why he winked at her. Like “hey, I’m just like you.”
Sun represents Blake’s love and hope for the future, a guiding light leading out of the shadows. He’s light. He’s the morning to her night, the light to her shadows, the sun to her moon. He’s an opposite of Blake, yeah, but unlike Adam, he compliments Blake and brings out the good in her. The best of her. The most of everything. Every relationship and person has their flaws and that was exemplified in volume four, but that did not make their relationship abusive or unhealthy like how people tried to claim. (like…come on try harder lmfao tauradon’t is literally RIGHT there and you choose…to demonize….blacksun…ok bye).
Sun brings out a lot of emotion from Blake. Hate me all you want, but Blake wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for Sun. Now I’m not touching how Yang impacted her because she impacted Blake just as much as anyone else, but think about it.
When Blake accidentally revealed that she was a part of the White Fang her first reaction was to run away. And who found her? Sun. Not her teammates. Not the Fang. Sun. It was by chance obviously, but he knew from the second he laid eyes on her that she was a faunus. He could easily see past that facade. If he hadn’t found her, we know Blake would have run away again. No ifs, ands, or buts, she’s a master at running away, and Sun’s a master at finding her when she’s in a low point.
He was the first person she opened up to. He was the first person she told about her past. Why? He’s a faunus.
People honestly have such a skewed perception of Sun and Blake as a couple because they’re of the same race. That shit ain’t racist they’re not being pushed together because they’re both faunus. They’ve grown closer and have a deeper bond than most people want to acknowledge because they’re both faunus. It’s no secret people feel more comfortable with people of their same race than their oppressors. Ask me if I’d (Blake) feel more comfortable being the only Mexican (cat faunus) in a group of white people (humans) discussing problems that I face that they couldn’t even begin to empathize with, than in the company of one or two other non-latinx poc (a monkey faunus, a bunny faunus, etc.) I think the answer is obvious lol.
Sun is such an important person to Blake and such an important aspect of her life. This is not me saying all her other friends aren’t important, of course they are, but Sun is the only other faunus friend Blake has. I don’t really consider Velvet a close friend of Blake’s, but I do think they would be friends. Especially since the first and only person Blake approached when CFVY came back from their mission was Velvet, another faunus.
Sun being a faunus is important. Sun brought such a bright light into her life. He’s such a polar opposite than Adam was, but he was someone Blake could see herself getting along with.
Adam puts himself and his ambitions above Blake, but Sun has always acted putting others before him. Everything he’s done has been for Blake. It’s not because “he wants that pussy” like nasties were saying when he found Blake on the boat. It’s because he genuinely cares for her. When has Sun ever put himself above others except for leaving his team behind? Even then, it was for someone else. Sun spent an entire weekend with Blake without even knowing her and she let him. He went up against a criminal syndicate he was viciously against by her side for her. He donned the mask of that organization he despises to help her gather information. Sun asked her to the dance hoping to relieve her of the stress she’s been forcing on herself and have a little fun for once. Be a kid. When she rejected him, he respected that. He took a step back, and left her alone. He didn’t approach her after that. He asked her team how she’s been doing. He was planning to go to the dance regardless (as seen at the end of Burning the Candle). He wasn’t waiting for anyone. He wasn’t expecting Blake to be there. But she found him. They spent the whole night together dancing and laughing! Sun is also the only person to ever make Blake blush and laugh when it’s just the two of them. Sun playfully flirts with Blake, and she reciprocates it. When Blake ran off after the fall of Beacon, you know what happened? Sun saw her run off. Sun saw her run away. Sun saw her do the same damn thing she always did, but you know what? He didn’t blame her. He gave her the benefit of the doubt. He took the time to say goodbye to his team, and tell Yang when she woke up that Blake had left.
When Blake said she wouldn’t run, Adam immediately said “you will.” He knew she would run. He knew she would resort to that.
But Sun…he gave her the benefit of the doubt. He didn’t think she was running away because she was scared and guilty. He thought they were past all of that. He thought she ran off after the Fang! A hilarious misunderstanding on a surface level to children, maybe, but he thought she was going after the people who had hurt her so much and destroyed her school, her new life, killed people, and mutilated her best friend and partner. He didn’t think she was running away from the problem, Sun thought she was running towards the problem. He searched for her and followed her because he was worried about her. He played it off lightheartedly, but he honestly thought she was about to try and take down a criminal organization by herself. I don’t care how strong someone is, you can’t do that alone. Especially someone was haunted as Blake. So he looked for her, found her, followed her, and looked after her. Sun has always put her before himself. When he found out, oh that’s not what she’s doing, he instantly recognized what was going on, and internally was probably like “ah fuck I can’t let her do this again.” So? He decided to stay with her. She needed someone by her side. And Sun provided that comfort and company she needed.
Sun…literally almost died for her. And you know what his response to that was? “I’d do it all again if it meant protecting you.” This boy genuinely cares about her. He really loves her. Whether you want to see it as platonic or romantic, Sun Wukong unconditionally, irrevocably loves Blake Belladonna.
And Blake…doesn’t know what that feels like. She’s afraid of seeing what happened with Adam happen again. She’s afraid of seeing what happened to Yang happen again. And you know damn well she never had the dedication and love that Sun gives her when she was with Adam in the White Fang.
Sun also learned a lot about his heritage this volume. He didn’t know much but he learned from Blake and he listened and was becoming more knowledgeable about how his people were oppressed. He didn’t get it before, but he’s beginning to get it now. He first reaction to finding out about the splinter group attempting a coup is to destroy the Fang, but Blake stands up and says “No, we’re taking it back.” And Sun…he’s gonna stay by her side for this. He’s going to understand why the White Fang needs to be reformed. He’s going to understand why the Fang is needed. But he’s not going to let their violence and hatred go on. He’s going to help Blake change the Fang.
He’s the hope and light that Blake has in the White Fang.
Also, take a look at his color scheme.
White and blue. Not only the opposite colors of Adam’s color scheme, but look familiar?
Yeah. The old White Fang’s flag.
Sun represents the light and hope Blake has for the White Fang. He represents such a bright future for Blake, for the White Fang, for Faunus, for himself.
When Blake is looking at the current Fang’s flag, the camera immediately pans to Blake’s face. She’s angry and pissed but this time she really won’t be running. It’s obvious we know who she was thinking of then. But when Blake is holding the old flag, the flag of hope and light, who do they pan to?
Sun.
And then they immediately pan to Blake. Her face melts into this smile.
That smile says that she’s ready to move on to a new chapter in her life, a chapter with Sun by her side, a chapter where she lets her friends in, where she doesn’t run away, where she vows to take back the Fang and turn it back into the civil rights group is always was.
And Sun was a catalyst for that! Notice at how different Sun and Adam are! Adam represents darkness and despair, Sun represents light and hope.
Their fight would literally symbolize despair vs hope. Regardless if Adam stabs Sun or Sun shoots off his mask, the end result is so symbolic and powerful. I don’t want Sun vs Adam because I want them to fight over Blake no fucking way. I want Sun vs Adam because of all of this. All of what I’ve written. Sun and Adam are polar opposites of each other and the fact that in Journey to the West, the monkey king (Sun) fights a demon bull king (Adam) is not just a coincidence lol. I don’t give crwby credit for much but I’d like to think that they’re not that bad of writers to have taken notice of this and not do anything with it.
And in the original story, Wukong doesn’t defeat the demon bull king by himself. Which is why I think the way this final battle is going to go is Sun and Adam are going to meet up, and they’re going to fight. But that’s not the end of the fight because Blake and Yang are going to join in. Essentially, Sunnybees vs Adam makes the most sense.
I honestly think Sun will fight Adam, Blake will join in, Adam overpowers Blake and an already injured Sun will jump in front of Adam’s sword for her and at that point while the sword is lodged in Sun’s gut Yang would show up, see the image in front of her, charge at Adam crying and instead of being the victim she would punch through Adam’s sword or catch it in her joints and deliver nasty blows to him. Blake holds on to Sun and then Yang comes back and looks after him while Blake goes and delivers the finishing blows on Adam, at which point she will either kill Adam or Adam will have a melt down and a Disney Villain death. Point is, the beast is gonna kill Gaston and then the beast is gonna return to beauty’s limp body. I wouldn’t write Sun off as dead here, I’d honestly just have it allude to when beauty was crying over the beast’s body except the roles are reversed. He’d wake up, he’d get healed, happy ending yada yada yada.
But this is…how I would write it and I’ve learned that crwby and I have very different writing methods lmfao so I would love for this to happen and it would make sense but I can’t say I’d necessarily trust them to do something like this.
Anyway that’s my two cents. Take it how you will idc but this is why I desperately want Sun vs Adam.

Do you hear that? Bzz bzz. It’s the sound of another Bumbleby reasoning post! I’m focusing on coincidences, similarities, and links. And a whole lot of everything. Bonus points for being a bee shipper true and true.
I’m warning you now, this is like over three fuckin thousand words long plus pictures. Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, go!
Okay so look
Is this purely coincidence?
Their outfit’s accent colours yes I count a robotic arm and makeup as accent colour ok:
Are each other’s eye colours:
Right, right. Everyone knew that!
So…
“Yang has two eye colours!” I hear from the back.
Well my friend, what colour is that? Red you say? What colour was Blake’s ex-partner’s accent colour? OH THAT’S RIGHT, red!
Her ex-partner? Argued to be the beast to Blake’s beauty in her Beauty and the Beast story.
Except: Blake has definitively left him behind. Before the show even begins, she abandons him after realising that he had become somebody she didn’t recognise. She said it herself in ‘Mountain Glenn’:
“When I realised my oldest partner had become a monster, I ran.”
So, Blake’s a lone beauty. Hold up! Not really.
Enter Yang!
In the Yellow trailer, we see Yang using her good looks and charm to mess with Junior. Yet underneath this exterior, we see a raging monster burning with rage. Literally. She’s on fire.
Hell is unleased upon Junior’s henchmen, the Malachite twins, and his club.
Then, Yang loses it when Junior pulls out some of her hair; her eyes turn red, she finishes him off with a devastating right hook to his face and he flies out the window like a chump.
Did I mention she was a raging beast? That’s how Yang fights. Her semblance allows for this. Energy-absorption; which she stores and uses against opponents. It is a little unclear the details of it, as she often just becomes angry and her eyes turn red and boom.
Like at initiation, where an Ursa cuts a little bit of her hair – she goes on a one-woman rampage before Blake cuts in and finishes the fight off.
And it feels like nay a moment passes before she’s angry again; with Nora riding in on an Ursa and Pyrrha running towards them with a Deathstalker on her tail. Yang wants two seconds of peace before something crazy happens again but ya know, that’s impossible.
Or when RWBY fights the Paladin that contains Roman; Yang is smashed through a highway pillar, comes out strong enough to stop the giant robot hitting her in its tracks, and executes a one punch hit that destroys it (with Blake’s help of course).
Let’s not forget the well-discussed scene in ‘Burning the Candle’; she is angry outside of battle when Blake is running herself into the ground over the dangers of the White Fang and Torchwick. Blake refuses to listen to her, and she even goes as far as physically shoving Blake to get the point across that she’s too far gone. Also, “coming out” is mentioned.
And in ‘Never Miss a Beat’ we have Neon Katt aggravating Yang by taunting her with jabs at her obvious bust size and boiling rage as a consequence. Here, Weiss and Yang had trouble with the opponents they faced off against. Weiss was defeated by Flynt, and Yang couldn’t hit Neon. Yang trumped Flynt (get it? That’s not a Trump joke, by the way), and Neon literally tripped up to give Yang the easy win.
Then things start to go wrong, big time. In ‘Fall’, it looks like Yang’s finally shown how much of a Beast she can be. In the 1v1 versus Mercury, she taps into her semblance at a very low aura level (16!) after he unleashes some sort of super barrage of bullets. She punches her way to a win – even though we can’t be sure if Mercury deliberately lost, or went into the fight not expecting he would lose without throwing the match. But he loses, as is crucial to Cinder’s plans.
And in typical Yang fashion, she hits Mercury first, and asks questions later, when she sees - what is Emerald’s illusion – him trying to attack her after the fight is finished. The whole world watching sees Yang break an innocent kid’s leg, after she defeated him.
Those watching thinks that she is a ruthless, violent, monster. An interesting parallel to say the least. Blake, a Faunus, judged because of something she cannot change. Yang, judged because she was tricked.
They share a sad truth – the world doesn't like them.
Not to mention, once again, Blake’s partner has become what she fears most.
(If only she had seen Cinder, Mercury and Emerald when they visited Adam while she was still with him; this might have been avoided! But, plot)
But we have Yang trying to convince her team she saw Mercury attack first – Ruby and Weiss easily believe her. Blake has trouble because, “this is all just very familiar”.
“But you’re not him.”
So, Blake chooses to trust Yang. She does not see her as the Beast.
Thus far, Yang has won almost every fight we’ve seen using her semblance. Her semblance is dangerous. She takes hits and deals them back at twice the power. But to take hits, is to take damage. She’s not invincible.
Yeah, let’s touch on the even more discussed scene in ‘Heroes and Monsters’.
After dealing out some physical abuse to Blake, Adam Taurus, mister Blake’s ex-partner, delivers this chilling threat:
“I will make it my mission to destroy everything you love,”
“starting with her.”
Aaaaaaaaaand Adam stabs Blake to bait Yang, Blake pleads to deaf ears for Yang to not do the thing; Yang charges in eyes red fists blazing and does the thing anyway (say that to the tune of Vanessa Carlton’s ‘A Thousand Miles’) and her arm is dismembered for her effort. Blake knew she’d do that, and she knew Adam would hurt Yang just to punish her.
Suddenly, Yang has become the victim, and she’s become the victim because of Blake’s past betrayal of Adam. Not to say it’s Blake’s fault – it’s not – but it is to say that Blake believes it’s her fault and she totally feels guilty.
No longer is Blake Beauty; she’s become the Beast that has brought this misfortune upon her friend.
What’s my point in all this? That they fit together in the basis of Beauty and the Beast. Not just that Blake is Beauty, and Yang is the Beast, but they both fit both roles.
This one’s a bit more symbolic:
The song ‘Red Like Roses’, which plays during the Red trailer, describes each colour (and thus also each member) of team RWBY.
Red ‘like roses’; White ‘is cold and always yearning’. Ruby’s surname is Rose; Weiss comes across as cold, but obviously has deeper reasons for this.
But the point lies in the next two lines.
Black ‘the beast descends from shadows’; Yellow ‘beauty burns gold’.
So, Black is the beast here. During the Black trailer, the song ‘From Shadows’ plays, which is the ‘theme song’.
Blake is Black – the beast descending from shadows.
Yang’s colour is Yellow (or, gold, same thing yo).
Yellow Beauty burns gold – the song that plays during the Yellow trailer is ‘I Burn’ - well, the remix. Which consists of excerpts of ‘Red Like Roses’, ‘Mirror Mirror’, ‘From Shadows’, and finishes with ‘I Burn’. But it’s still ‘I Burn’.
The text that prefaces the Yellow trailer reads:
A spark becomes a flame in most cases, and again we have the motif of burning fire and beauty associated with Yang.
Because let’s face it. Typically, Yang is beautiful. I don’t have to explain this one. Her symbol is a burning heart. Hot and…hot. Two kinds of hot.
Blake is her beast, the Faunus that the world thinks ill of. The Faunus that was part of the White Fang. The Faunus once partnered with the dude that cut off her arm.
I feel like I’ve made the Beauty and the Beast argument here, not to mention it’s been made a lot already. These are all details; big and small; obvious and subtle, that surely cannot be coincidental. (SURELY????)
Now, I gotta take a small thing from the Yellow trailer’s preface text, this discussion’s not really that significant, but I had to do it anyway.
“Scathing eyes ask that we be symmetrical” and “misshapen spark”.
The public wants symmetry – but we have Yang, that shows off anything but symmetry. She must be that misshapen spark. (FORESHADOWING!! WHY MONTY?!)
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LET’S PLAY!: spot the asymmetries!
Obviously, Yang’s arms are technically are asymmetrical now. That one’s a given!
But, let’s take a look at Yang’s original outfit, y’all:
Her symbol is on her left breast; it is a heart after all!
That belt, girl! Satchels on the left, a bit of fabric over the top on the right. Burning heart on the right, as well. Even a bit of fabric that I don’t know what to call that tapers off to one side only.
Then you got them socks. The left one is above the knee, and the right is below. And a piece of purple fabric peeking outta the left boot for good measure.
Then we have the Hunter outfit featured in ‘Painting the Town’:
It’s a little less prominent in this outfit, but we have an overcoat that crosses over the torso, rather than doing up right in the centre. This one even tapers off to her left hip at the hem!
She’s also got another belt with a satchel just on her left side.
Then that piece of purple whatever the heck it is attached to her left hip. This one’s all left (insert arm joke here).
A little observation of her ‘don’t give a shit’ outfit:
Ya gotta notice the sleeves being different lengths accommodating the loss of her right forearm.
The left sleeve bears her father’s emblem.
There is an extra pocket on her right thigh, above her emblem. A little Grimm patch is on her right hip too.
Her current outfit which debuted in ‘No Safe Haven’ combines a little of everything to me. It’s hard to get a good look at every angle with what little we’ve been given, though:
Ditching the scarf, Yang’s now got a collar that buckles up on the right.
It looks like her overcoat/vest zips up on her right side, that opens across her chest diagonally. It’s not in the center to me, at least.
I can see her belt has brown fabric attached to it, and on her left hip the fabric folds over the belt and reaches around to the back.
The purple fabric is back at it again on her left knee!
Never symmetrical.
Who else has got some asymmetries in their outfits? (EVERYBODY, I HEAR YOU SAY?)
Yeah, there’s something odd in everyone’s outfits. But if we look at team RWBY, it’s most prominent in Yang’s, and then Blake’s.
Blake’s original outfit:
She’s only got one asymmetry, which is fairly obvious. There is a long black sleeve she wears on her left arm.
The ribbons on each wrist only differ slightly, and I mean slightly, I barely count that.
Her intruder outfit, that’s almost completely symmetrical:
There’s one oddity on her belt – a satchel on the left hip.
The belt itself is a little lopsided.
There’s also a similarity here though, one of those fabric skirt things that I still don’t have a name for!
Blake’s current outfit has a little more asymmetry than the rest:
There’s a strap that she uses to carry Gambol Shroud. This goes over her right shoulder, rather than the pack she used to have on her back.
Then her belt, yet again, has a satchel on the left hip.
And on her boots (the longest boots probably in existence or they’re just accessories I really can’t tell I’ve tried to see if they’re not actually all boots and still am undecided), there’s another strap on her left thigh.
And I also note here that Blake’s got some major coattails going on too. Another similarity!
I hear you though, “THAT AIN’T SHIT”
Yeah, you right, the outfits aren’t such a big overlap. But that’s where they fit in the flow of this post; I still find that the outfits play a part, however small, in all this.
There are a lot less asymmetrical features in Ruby’s and Weiss’s outfits overall. Combat skirts, y’all!
But I suppose we need a bigger link between these two for this to seem worth it. I’ve seen plenty of arguments against why these two shouldn’t be together.
Recently, I saw something that went along the lines of the main character’s stories don’t have to focus on romance; a sub-plot is okay, but to say that their stories are so definitively focused on a romance between them isn’t right (okay that’s probably really inaccurate but it’s close enough to the point).
Except I think that’s kind of a lame argument. I don’t think this story focuses on romance between them. It focuses on all the things that are similar, or are a link between them, or how they balance each other out enough for it to seem part of the story without taking away from it.
Blake’s main flaw is that she runs away. She ran from her parents when her father stepped down as leader of the White Fang. She ran off with Adam to try and fight for the Faunus’ cause, but eventually she ran away from him when she couldn’t face what he had become. When Blake let slip she was a Faunus, she ran because she didn’t know how to deal with the reaction from her team. When Adam cut off Yang’s arm, Blake ran in fear that he’d come back to finish the job and then some if she stayed.
Her semblance, as Blake so eloquently described:
“I was born with the ability to leave behind a shadow of myself, an empty copy that takes the hit while I run away.”
I felt the way she says this makes it seem that she’s almost ashamed of this, like she’s enabling herself and this is a defect that allows cowardice.
In her face-off with Adam in ‘Heroes and Monsters’, he begins by criticising this as she looks fearful at the sight of him,
“Running away again? Is that what you’ve become my love? A coward?”
Blake fends him off a wounded student, angrily stating,
“I’m not running!”
His response,
“You will.”
And she does.
This fault of character is “coincidentally” what Yang has the biggest issue with in life!
Yang’s birth mother, Raven, abandoning her – she left without giving Yang a chance to stop her. Yang was a baby; she couldn’t stop her as a newborn infant, but she’s still asking the question of why.
Summer Rose, however unintentionally, left her as well.
Her father was devastated by this, and so he mentally checked out of life for a while and the parental role in her own and Ruby’s life fell to Yang.
Yet Yang’s search for Raven is the purpose of her visit to Junior in the Yellow trailer. She’s still searching for answers as the show progresses.
Yang explains to Blake the story of Summer Rose’s and her real mother’s disappearances, she describes that when she was a young child, she almost got herself and Ruby killed trying to follow a clue,
“My stubbornness should have gotten us killed that night.”
In the moment, that line is to reason that Blake is exhausting herself to the point where, if she had to fight, she would die. Just like Yang did as a child searching for her mother.
Yet it looks like it could have been more foreshadowing. Yang’s stubbornness is a part of why she relies on her semblance in fights. That’s just the way she does it.
When Adam cut her arm off, he was going to kill her. She was defenseless! Her stubbornness should have gotten her killed. But once again, someone swoops in to save her – this time, it’s Blake.
Yes, she wouldn’t have been in that situation if it weren't for wanting to help Blake. But she wouldn’t have been in that situation as well if she tactfully approached fights. (ADAM WOULD HAVE SLAYED HER ANYWAY. PROBS.)
Blake knows Yang has an issue with abandonment. Yang knows Blake tends to run. And here they run into an issue, because Blake runs from Yang, and Yang is angry that she ran. It’s like star-crossed lovers or some shit!
In ‘End of the Beginning’, Ruby and Yang have a little catch up when Ruby wakes up. Yang tells her that Blake ran, and Ruby questions why.
You hear how devastated Yang sounds when she says,
“I don’t know,”.
She looks like she’s about to cry, actually. Remember the last time she cried? When she was afraid Blake didn’t trust her? Yeah…
Anyway, Yang then stops herself. She becomes bitter and claims,
“and I don’t care.”
Poor, innocent, sweet, naïve Ruby says there has to be a reason why Blake left.
“No there doesn’t. Sometimes bad things just happen, Ruby.”
Yang’s resigned herself to be somebody people just leave. For no reason. And she’s upset.
I mean, we’re all like 1000% sure that Yang totally cares why Blake left. She just can’t admit that she cares that she’s been abandoned. Again. Did you hear ‘Armed and Ready’? I think Yang cares. (I’ve written care so much it doesn’t look like a real word anymore)
IS THIS ALL JUST A COINCIDENCE? (IS THIS THE REAL LIFE, IS THIS JUST FANTASY? CAUGHT IN A LANDSLIDE, NO ESCAPE FROM REALITY, OPEN YOUR EYES, LOOK UP TO THE SKIES AND SEE. I’M JUST A POOR BEE, I NEED NO SYMPATHY.)
Is it just a fucking coincidence that Blake runs and Yang is run from? (Better fuckin not be)
This isn’t a focus on building a romance story between them. It is crucial to their character building. This is building the foundations for the fuckin plot. The core of their characters, yada yada.
Their team is split apart. How will they become team RWBY again if they don’t sort this out? They’re going to have to sooner or later. The show is literally called RWBY.
They’re gonna have to address the Goliath in the room. Yang lost her arm to protect Blake. I think there’s gonna have to be some “you leaving hurt me more that losing a stupid arm” talk. Sun already said the whole, “you pushing us out hurts more than anything the bad guys could ever do to us” line, and he makes a lot of sense! Blake seemed to have a good reaction to that. And Yang’s talked sense into Blake before, and I can see that happening again, since Blake’s all guilty about her.
She hopes that her team hates her for leaving, so that she has an excuse to stay away, even though she misses them. That’s guilt.
She wants to deal with the consequences of her choices, apparently. Sun tells her she can’t make the choices for her friends.
Because that’s the exact same way that Raven left Yang. Without giving her a choice. Blake left before Yang even had the chance to ask her to stay! I bet Yang’s sick of that, huh?
Remember when Blake said,
“They were my friends. I loved them like I never thought I could love anybody.”
(Cue the tears. Arryn did such a good job VA in V4).
Blake’s gonna go back to them. It’s just a matter of time.
Ahhhh. What was my point again? I’m so caught up (USHER!) in all this analysis of things that my brain is just overloading. Every day, I think of something else. I really tried to consolidate my thoughts on the topic for real, just so I could get a new perspective and see if I make any sense.
There’s been so many sneaky hints in this show. So many.
Which is why we all kind of freaked out when Yang left Patch and went on that fuckin boat:
THAT. FUCKIN. GAY. BOAT.
Because it had to be the same boat Blake traveled on, didn’t it?
TELL ME IT’S NOT (BUT DON’T. I KNOW IT’S THE SAME BOAT. THIS ISN’T SOME TITANIC CONSPIRACY THEORY).
YOU HAD TO DO THIS TO US, DIDN’T YOU, CRWBY?
This post is a mess and so am I!
After all this talking, I gotta leave my real opinion here.
I just happen to think that this all makes a pretty good reason for a realistic situation where they realise that Blake found someone she does not want to run from, and Yang has someone that she really doesn’t want to lose.
Then you factor in things like they level each other out; Blake is mellow and Yang is boisterous; Blake is reserved and Yang is an open book (thank you Arryn for pointing that one out [RWBY ladies podcast from yonder years ago]); Blake’s dry sarcasm and Yang’s bad jokes; black and yellow is a good colour combination; “I love it when you’re feisty!”; *insert your favourite bee moments here*; etc.
Maybe it won’t turn into a romantic relationship, but the possibility is there.
I mean, you don’t have to want it, but you don’t need to be negative about it. If you don’t like a ship, just ignore us that do. I ignore all those people that argue for a ship I don’t see happening, because who am I to go there and crush all the things they believe in? Did we notice how I did nothing but talk about Bumbleby here? No other mention of any other ship. No hate. Just love.
People write these posts to give insight as to why they enjoy and choose a ship. Not so they can be pulled down and ridiculed; I don’t come on here trying to find common ground with people and celebrating a possibility that two badass chicks might be a little bit gay for each other.
You celebrate your ships, I’ll celebrate mine. And we can all bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone can eat and be happy, no matter what happens.
I just have a lot of feelings.
(Okay, go home.)

I didn't expect for me to do a rant about bumbleby but I've been rewatching RWBY while me and my friend wait till February for the next chapter and holy shit, there's a lot to talk about.
Maybe it's because the first time I watched RWBY was all together without needing to wait like all the fandom but I'm pretty sure bumbleby was either a thought, a path they had as one option or being something it was going to happen no matter what since they started writing RWBY.
All the hints, subtext, etc were there, since the first moment Yang and Blake meet.
We all know RWBY doesn't have all the time neither the budget to make a 30min or 1h long for every chapter, so all the faces, the details, body movements are there for a reason and not to waste time and money.
Yang sees Blake and it's immediately interested, Ruby tells her she knows her and what Yang do? Uses Ruby as an excuse to go closer to Blake and talk to her + this will help Ruby to come out of her shell.
Now, before I continue I want to say that I personally head canon Yang as a lesbian because I relate to her as one but it's perfectly fine if y'all head canon her as bi or pan, what we all know it's that the girl is NOT straight.
Let's continue, Yang try to start a conversation and Blake was not vibing with it until Ruby started talking about books. It's quite a funny moment for me because Yang is so used to people wanted to be with her or wanted to flirt with her that she gets awkward and her confidence start going low the moment she is the one actively going for it and not the other way around.
Yang is quite an interesting character because at first it looks like she's a flirt and knows clubs and illegal stuffs, she's really cool, confident and really attractive. But then as the series progress we see how damage she is, such a low self-esteem she has in certain stuffs, how she's really smart, she doesn't actually flirt and when it's someone she likes she gets all awkward and stuff.
Then you have Blake, we see since the beginning the strong sense of justice she has, how passionate about it she is, she's lowkey most of the times, serious but then we see all her issues, her low self-esteem, how scared she is and how humorous she is as well, assertive and direct. If Yang is not there then the person making the jokes is Blake and I find that really cool.
I mention this because the Blake we see in Emerald Forest is assertive Blake.
Yang gets into the forest and start looking for Ruby while Blake seems to have been following her since they landed in there. She's in the shadows keeping an eye close to Yang, she sees her fighting the Ursas and took advantage of that to help her and appear in front of her. Purposely smirking while looking her directly at her eyes.
Now, why would Blake choose Yang? Why not Phyrra? Or Ruby? Well, because Blake is attracted to strength. It's the same thing that attracted her to Adam, she sees the similarities but there are so many differences as well.
As they continue their journey to find the relic Blake seems to enjoy Yang company, smiling and smirking at her. We basically see a different Blake than we saw when Ruby and Weiss were around, this is more direct, assertive and flirty.
At this point Blake is attracted to Yang, smiling at her jokes, smirking, going all sassy, the way she walks or behaves around Yang.
The best part? She loves it.
My favorite part of bumbleby between v1 and v3 is absolutely when Yang tells her "I love it when you are feisty" and Blake smirks and it's loving it.
Blake loves when Yang gives her attention. It always been there, I'm so sorry y'all can't see it.
But between v1 and v3, while she absolutely loves being around Yang, she's still feels the weight of her past, which makes her still closed and not as free as she would like.
Before I talk about v4 and 5 and the end of v3 I want to talk about Sun.
He's important for Blake's growth and I feel a lot of people don't like that but this is what the media does every single time with women, they present them in the narrative only to make the main dude to growth so, it's actually nice seeing it the other way around + Sun does get a bit of growth and he has some plot in the books I think (I still need to read those but I can't find them 😭).
Since the moment Sun sees Blake he's attracted to her, understandable, she's hot. He tries to catch her attention by helping her, etc.
Blake does not shares the same sentiment until like v3 or something, in some funny way Yang is the one that pushed her to Sun by making her go to the dance and spent time with Sun.
But Blake goes to the dance because of Yang and she specifically tells Sun, in a really smug way btw, how her first dance is reserved for someone else. In the dance she constantly smiles to Yang and then we see her having an amazing time with Sun and Neptune which helps her to relax and making new friends!
At this point Blake seems to be attracted to both Yang and Sun or at least she's a bit attracted to Sun in a sexual way and not romantic wise. Blake loves the attention them both give her, is not in bitchy or selfish way(?) It makes her confident and tbh that's such a human like reaction, knowing that really attractive and amazing people are attracted to you? Please, I would be worst than Blake.
Then we have the end of v3, where Adam appears and everything goes to shit.
It's interesting how they decided to animate and write Blake, Sun and Yang in the Fall of Beacon.
Blake is constantly worried about Yang, specially after what happened, Yang calls Blake and wants to be sure she and Ruby are ok.
Later Blake goes after a Grimm and Sun and Yang are finally in the last place Blake was before disappearing.
Instead of Sun going after Blake it was Yang, he just stays there, behind Weiss.
Is in this volume that we find out that Adam wasn't Blake mentor, they were together in a romantic sense (which is disgusting because it means Adam not only abused her but groomed her). Adam tells her he's going to destroy everything she loves and in that exact moment Yang comes into scene yelling for Blake and poor Blake is mortified and Adam sees this which for him means that the blonde girl is someone that Blake loves.
The freaking meaning of all this is AMAZING, the narrative presents Yang as someone that Blake loves.
When Yang lose her arm it's when Blake gets out of her black state to protect Yang, she could have died but she didn't cared because she needed Yang to be alive, that's her partner and someone who she has confused feelings about.
Because that's the thing, yes Blake knows she's attracted to her but what does that mean? Adam is still around and she knows Yang is vulnerable and can't take much emotional damage.
So Blake leave because at least without her around Yang can still be alive because Adam is looking for her not Yang.
Here's something important, bumbleby of v1 to v3 is something fun, is a teenager thing but then bumbleby of v4 till now is more important, is deeper and goes beyond a crush.
Sun stalks Blake which was pretty bad specially cuz Blake was paranoid about Adam which makes her react violently (she slaps him which is bad as well).
Blake character development in v4 and v5 is really important, not only Sun helps her a lot but spending time with her parents help her heal some stuffs.
But it's in v5 that everyone should have got the confirmation needed for black sun.
There's a moment when they are talking about Adam and Blake tells Sun that she's thankful that he helped her and that's what she wants to do, she wants to be that friend to help Illia, the same thing Sun did for her.
This implies so much and the most important one is that for Blake, Sun is a friend, a very dear one btw, and that she wants to be a friend to Illia as well, she wants to be that safety net that Sun and her parents were for her but with Illia. This is so powerful because Sun is more than ok with that, he only wanted to help Blake and if she ended up falling for him? Cool, and if not, cool as well.
Sun already knew this, since the beginning.
In the end of V3 he saw it and came to terms with it.
You know who were looking out for Blake and Yang when Yang was unconscious and Blake was taking her hand while crying and apologizing? Ren and Nora, who were both tired. And in front of them was Sun, looking at them like "oh", like he understood that Blake eyes we're always on Yang and not on him.
That's why in all the conversations of blacksun in v4 and v5 Sun always brings up Yang and how she may feel because he knows that's the person for Blake, not him.
Because if not, tell me why no romantic business happened? It was perfect to expand their relationship! But they didn't.
Later he was the one pushing Blake to go with her team, he knows, Sun knows how important is for Blake to be with her team and to be with Yang. At the end of the day, the person Blake felt safe with after Adam was Yang.
Now, v6.
Listen, Ruby and Weiss don't get why Yang can't seem to forgive Blake but... Blake does, back in Beacon Yang had an heart to heart with her about her family, Blake knew about what leaving would be for Yang and that's why she so angst about Yang in v4 and v5.
So she tries her hardest, and while I agree that there's some parts that should be written better and they need to TALK about it... V6 was good for them.
The Apathy mini arc was amazing but it was the end of V6 that settle bumbleby to be canon.
Blake finally understanding that they need to be equals in their relationship, them both going against Adam, Adam rage to see how much they love and respect each other, the final blow, Blake break down...
But the most important of all was the beginning of the second part of Blake and Adam fight, because Yang listen everything that Adam said to Blake and it clicked for her.
Blake didn't left because she wanted, she left because she loves them. And the moment Yang hug her, comfort her and reassure her they are fine it's the moment she forgives Blake and a new stage in their relationship starts which lead us to v7.
V7 bumbleby is v1/v3 bumbleby but mature. They talk more (as we see with the scene about Robyn), they want to be more close and close to each other, etc.
Assertive Blake is back! She keeps flirting with Yang, keeps making Yang to compliment her, to pay attention to her, she giggles at Yang's jokes, she goes to a club!! Blake doesn't usually goes to clubs!
In V2 we see Blake can dance but in V7 she doesn't seem to find the rhythm... Ohhh the classic "please help" You give to your crush to make them get closer to you so you can flirt with them and maybe make a move. And Yang? She goes with the flow, because is what Blake wants and Yang wants Blake to lead because Adam is still fresh.
That's why she gets worried about what Blake thinks of her in V8, what they have is new, they are aware of the attraction and the feelings but haven't done anything about it.
I love making it seem they are clueless but they aren't, they are smart and observant young women, Blake knows Yang find her attractive, she encourages Yang to watch her, to flirt, to get closer.
There's a scene in V7 when Yang is watching Blake through the mirror and Blake purposely gets flirty when putting her make up on.
They know they are dancing around each other.
It's so great seeing an wlw couple being like this, I love it. Bumbleby is a slow burn and it's a really cute and adorable one, it's a shame people hate it or claim is queerbaiting.
Yeah, maybe there's some stuffs that could be written better but overall? Bumbleby has been here since the beginning and the development is beautiful to see.
Highly recommend to rewatch RWBY with all this subtext in mind so you will find Bumbleby since day one lol.
Btw, ship whatever you want guys, blacksun is a cute ship, just stop being dicks to the VAs and the writers of the show for something that's your fault, like... Literally, your fault, all the signs were there.
And sorry for making this so long and all over the place, I hope you enjoy this rant tho lol

You...sound more butthurt than anyone in the fandom? Lol
And it is bad writing even if Yang isn't interested lol.
Because now Blake has an abusive ex. and shitty love interest who turned bad bc "wah, you don't return my feelings "! You know, instead of maybe having a deeper motivation like "Blake you don't believe in the same morals I do anymore wtf!" So Illia is there now soley as a romantic interest rather than so many other things she should be.
And if yang is an interest like the fandom thinks then yes that's 4 people interested in Blake which is 3 too many. Especially when Sun has (for the past few volumes) been shown to have reciprocated feelings.
Maybe I care about other characters like idk, the whole cast? That should be getting development.
Don't fucking come on here trolling if you don't have a solid argument ok sweetie? 👌
Honestly if Blake harem becomes a thing I’m dropping RWBY
How could you build up Blacksun since the beginning and then throw in 3 other characters? This “everyone is in love with Blake” thing is getting old
