I’m always amazed by the intensity of my Orochimaru fixation…it’s so bad I haven’t watched a full scene with oro in it for like. 2 years. I’ve loved him for probably a decade now but everytime they show up on screen I literally start shaking and sweating and feeling nauseous I get so excited I literally have to pause the show 35 times and don’t absorb any information. It’s like a caffeine high I just start freaking out

I think this one image encapsulates all the reasons that Hiruzen pisses me off. "gentle, loving, TOLERANT"??? Yeah he sure is fucking tolerant! Tolerant of the Hyuga getting away with slavery, of his best buddy doing whatever corrupt nonsense he wants to, of kids in the village being used as fodder - he's even the one who made the damn Chuunin exams and allowed them to get as bad they are!

Don't get me started on the book's implication with the Orochimaru line. "Orochimaru was no exception" oh I see then does Hiruzen go around assuming that all the kids in the village who want to be hokage (aka a ton of them) are too ambitious and filled with malice? Hmm???

And get a load of that last line; "paternal love for the village. This was so even toward the Uchiha clan, which planned the revolt..." If he was so loving and gentle, why did they feel the need to revolt? Revolutions don't come out of nowhere, the idea that they do is propaganda, so tell me how this gentle loving soul allowed things to get so bad that this clan felt they needed to fight back?

This is the exact kind of character that pisses me off - supposed good guys who, if you look at them for more than two seconds, have actually done some awful things... but the narrative pretends that didn't happen. Villains and flawed heroes get punished or called out for their bad actions; even Tobirama got called out because his policies led to so many issues later

but this old fart? gets off scot free?? immortalized as a martyr and a ✨gentle father figure✨ ?????

i'm such a slut for when a character is morally evil, but worshipped by another character as a deity of some sort. like i love me an absolute freak who doesn't really see the value in human life at all, and there's another, more masochistic freak, jerking off to their aura of inhumanity. a real two-hit combo of "whatever's wrong with this guy is clearly incredibly appealing to this other guy"
