There is this proverb, I heard it first in bastardized Provençal as a kid but it's Italian in origin;

Pela il fico all'amico e la pesca al nemico.

"Peel a fig for a friend, and a peach for an enemy."

If you search online, you won't find a proper explanation, but I still remember what I was told it meant back then. A fig can be eaten with peel, or if desired, cracked open and peeled with bare hands. To peel a peach, however, you need a knife.
