one thing i really like about buddhism--particularly mahayana buddhism--is that it understands context, so in my mind it's a very "human" religion. mahayana doesn't tell you to live up to impossible standards but rather, to actually attain what was once thought impossible through whatever means you have. by any means necessary is very applicable to mahayana buddhism.

in the lotus sutra, the buddha states something along the lines of "if a person needs an arhat to be saved, i will appear in the form of an arhat" and proceeds to list down several other forms they might take to save someone, right down to "if they need a common person to be saved, then i will appear in the form of a common person." now, buddhism has been soteriological from the start (it's all about emancipation from the wheel of rebirth after all) but that sutra passage only really served to highlight the major message of the entire sutra: the use of skillful means.

so to me this means buddhism accepts contexts. it doesn't require you to do 180,000 prostrations, it doesn't require you to be a perfect peerless meditative god, it doesn't require you anything that you cannot do at all. it doesn't matter: you will become a buddha all the same. that last bit makes it even better: since in buddhism emancipation means becoming a buddha, when sakyamuni "saves" you he only really supercharges your enlightenment so you can get to it easier, or if another buddha saves you (like amitabha) he whisks you off to his pure land sukhavati so that you can focus a thousand kalpas on just enlightenment without having to be hungry, thirsty, or oppressed.

the majority buddhism in my country is mahayana--it used to be some form of esoteric buddhism during the classical period but that has long since vanished away. though the fact that there has been avalokitesvara images found somewhere in batangas makes it a very spiritual thought to become a buddhist in a country that has partial buddhist roots.

it's mahayana because the buddhism that was brought back here during/after colonization was chinese buddhism. which is dominated by amitabha/pure land buddhism. now one of the most important deities/bodhisattvas in chinese buddhism is guanyin 觀音 (bodhisattva of compassion, who is a strange sinicized version of avalokitesvara). you'll still find her statues in the philippines, especially in parts most concentrated with chinese immmigrants. in one corner of binondo you will see a street shrine with guanyin, mother mary, and jesus christ beside each other, and with passersby offering incense to all three of them.

so since guanyin (who, by the way, is sometimes syncretized to essentially be "chinese mama mary" because religion in religious countries is very bumfuck evades taxonomy) is the most popular bodhisattva in the PH, when tibetan lamas arrived here to teach vajrayana, they adapted a lot of chenrezig rituals even though chenrezig isn't really overtly huge in tibetan buddhism. so now when you go to vajrayana pujas in manila, they almost always have some semblance of chenrezig invocation, and its common to have chenrezig pujas.

another upaya-kaushalya thing i noticed is that buddhism doesn't really do like mass every sunday. but since filipinos have been doing sunday mass for around 300 years now they adapted and now we have sunday pujas because the common filipino expects some sort of religious commitment on sunday

i think buddhism could be a huge boon to socialist movements. cutting through the ego, emphasis on emptiness (that is, nothing has inherent nature, which is essentially mystical materialism), and an emphasis on a sort of helping each other to gain merit would really benefit everyone. especially since unlike christianity they don't force other local religions or local people to change for them, but rather, they retrofit themselves into the local space, adopting the principle of skillful means to help everyone realize their buddhahood.

The lost name

I think Vanitas’s real name could be Deucalion. 

In this text I’ll cover my reasons for choosing this name, its connection to the story of Noah and the myth of Pandora and how would it correlate with the relationship of Vanitas and Noé. 

Posting this as an actual answer to @scar-eyejolteon14 as promised here. 

The lore of Deucalion 

It all started when I was wondering what kind of name I could give Vani if I were to draw him as a Chasseur (ordinary human, who’ve never met Luna and never inherited their name). I began with the most obvious thing: checking Vani’s wiki page for existing details and references. I went with his zodiak sign, Aquarius, as the staring point, because stars and celestial bodies are recurring theme in VnC and well why not?.. 

The next obvious place to go is wiki page for Aquarius. Here we come across a fun thing: Babylonian star catalogues. They contained lists of stars, constellations, and planets. 

I found the first picture on a somewhat strange website, but whatever. This is a fragment of a circular star calendar, which belonged to the library of King Ashurbanipal (668-627 BC) in Nineveh. The second picture is a star list, found in Uruk (320-150 BC). It had information on all constellations such as names, number of stars, their distance, etc. Just so we understand that astronomy was a big deal there. 

And yes, the capital of Babylonia was Babel — that one city with the tower (The Book of Genesis, Genesis 11) which is referenced in VnC. 

(Ch. 21) 

What did Babylonian astronomers think of Aquarius? Well, they associated this constellation with the Ea. “The Great One” is his title. He’s also known as Enki, god of magic, fertility, creation, etc., who was originally a water god (and his temple name E-apsu means “house of the watery deep", idk I think it sounds really cool). The water theme is not random: Aquarius was also associated with floods. Water was sacred, but also deadly: floods were source of destruction. 

Later, a Latin author Gaius Julius Hyginus quoted an Alexandrian historian Hegesianax that Deucalion is to be identified with Aquarius, "because during his reign such quantities of water poured from the sky that the great Flood resulted." Again, we see the idea of destructive flood. But where does Deucalion bring us? To Noah. Or Noé, if you will. 

(Ch. 1) 

Deucalion and Noah 

Both Deucalion and Noah are central figures of the classical flood myth, which exists in various cultures. While these two are probably among the most popular figures, there are other examples, including Utnapishtim, who was warned by the god Ea (who also created humans among other things) about the flood and instructs him to build a boat and save his family and animals. The stories of Deucalion and Noah follow the same pattern with some minor variations. But Deucalion is the one who is associated with Aquarius, the constellation that symbolizes the coming of the flood and all its terrors, while Noah/Noé is associated with salvation of human race and all living things. 

Deluge, 1864, by Aivazovsky. This painting depicts a beginning of a biblical story about the near-end of human race. It’s pretty much the same in other versions of the story. 

Deucalion and Pandora 

What’s interesting, Deucalion’s myth is directly related to Pandora’s myth. Deucalion is usually described as the son of Prometheus, while Deucalion’s wife Pyrrha was the daughter of Pandora. And Pandora’s myth is among the core themes of “Pandora hearts”. If we consider the possibility of VnC and PH’s universes being connected, the idea of Deucalion being Vani’s true name would also make sense… For example, this theory covers the topic.

Right – Deucalion and Pyrrha, 1636–1637, by Rubens. This painting shows a scene from the story of Deucalion and Pyrrha as told by Ovid in Metamorphoses. After surviving the disaster, they had to throw stones over their shoulders, each of which became a new human being.

Even if worlds of Pandora Hearts and Vanitas no Carte don’t exist in the same universe, there clearly is thematical relation between the two stories, one being about hope and another about despair. What’s even more interesting, there was actually a whole discourse about what’s hidden in Pandora’s jar: is it true hope or is it actually an illusion of salvation which hurts even more than actual despair? The translation of the word elpis, the spirit of hope in the jar, is actually neutral in its meaning. It’s simply “hope”, not inherently “good” or “bad”, which leaves a lot of space for interpretation in media. 

Vanitas and Noé

Volume 3 cover implies that Vanitas will be marked by an Archiviste. It’s unknown whether this Archiviste would ne Noé or Machina or even some other. I hope it’s gonna be Noé, because it would break a specific border between them and it will definitely be very dramatic, but Machina might do it for the sake of obtaining information, which is her main thing. Anyway, regardless of who does this, when and why, I believe that this moment is probably the real possibility for revealing the true name of Vanitas. 

On a side note, it would also be kinda interesting if Noé gets to know Vani’s true name, but it will still be hidden from us, the readers. There’s is also a possibility that Vani’s true name will not be revealed even in this situation. His goal is to erase everything related to the Vampire of the Blue Moon, and I guess that would mean erasing everything about himself too. But in Ch1 he promises to stay here even after he is gone, so it might imply that at least someone will get to remember him — perhaps as Xxxx the human, not Vanitas, kin of the Blue Moon. Which might mean going against Luna’s request… 

(Ch. 50) 

And, well, Xxxx could de Deucalion. Just think about it: wouldn’t it be cool if both Vani and Noé were given names with similar symbolism behind it and later both assume the moniker of Vanitas?

Plus the whole “loop” thing, like “memory loop” theory and “time loop theory” (here and here) again adds to the idea of connection between them. The loop where ends and beginnings melt into each other, like Ouroboros eating its own tail. The loop between Vanitas and Noé, where they will have to understand pointlessness and hopefulness of life – and what does in mean to save and be saved. 

The ultimate hope of survival becomes fleeting dream for all caught in this loop. But every dream is destined to end, as pointed by Saint Germain. And what will happen, when Vanitas and Noé will have to wake up from the dream of their own? What will prevail - death and futility of life or salvation and rebirth?

🍂“Hey.” You turn around at the sound of Banri’s voice to find him leaning over the kitchen counter, that iconic foxy look in his eyes. You have to sigh, almost entirely sure of what was going to happen next.

🍂“What?” You ask, knowing his next move.

🍂“Oh, there’s my dear. I love you~.” He croons, making a kissy motion. You couldn’t say you didn’t feel at least a little flustered, but that didn’t change the fact that this was Banri Settsu you were talking to.

🍂You stepped up to him, shoving your palm against his mouth.

🍂“Yeah, nice try.”

🍂“What? You used to like it when I was all flirty.” He pouted.

🍂“Mhm, not before I caught on to your stupid schemes.” You replied flatly, going back to the task at hand.

🍂“But it def helped ya fall in love with me a little more, didn’t it?”

🍂You had to cringe at the accusation, but you couldn’t deny it.

🍂“Shut up.”

🍂“That’s what I thought.” He replied with a sly grin.

🍂BASTARD.

🍂Even though he tends to mask his affection in cheesy lines and smug smirks, when he’s in a really romantic mood it’s like he’s a completely different person.

🍂He’s practically attached to you, his face in your shoulder mumbling things like “I love you” over and over again.

🍂Of course, this is something you only get to see in private, as he can’t let anybody know that Mr. Super Ultra Easy Mode has a weak spot.

🍂He’s also super affectionate, placing little kisses all over you as the soft mumbling continues.

🍂He’s more giggly with you as well. He has such a bubbly laugh that it’s a shame you don’t hear it more often.

🍂And so, holding your drinks up, you pose as the camera shutters. Immediately after, you turn away to start sipping at your drink.

🍂You may not have been aware of the expression on your face, but Banri was. He was very aware.

🍂It had been a long day, and the way your eyes went from having such a dull look to them to positively lighting up at the first sip; it was such a subtle change, and yet he couldn’t help but find it cute. Not that he’d ever say it, of course.

🍂Despite that, he felt something bubble up inside him. A sort of voice that screamed at him that he needs to be the one to make that happen more often.

🍂Was it love? Would he know?

🍂The feeling turned from a gurgling to a flood of questions and emotions as he continued to stare at you, unaware of his own expression, a soft, caring one.

🍂You turned around to face him at his sudden silence.

🍂“Banri? You okay?”

🍂It was as if your voice had snapped him out of some sort of hypnosis.

🍂“Huh? Wha-? Yeah, ‘m fine. You like what ya got?” He replied, a little flustered.

🍂“Yeah.” You said, a smile finally gracing your features.

🍂“Good.” Banri rubbed your head fondly. Maybe he’d figure out the funny feeling later and enjoy his time with you.

🖋️He has so much love to give, but it’s never in the most obvious way

🖋️It’s always the little things with him, like allowing himself to let loose and complain a little or taking time out of a busy schedule to take you for a meal.

🖋️There’s just something about the way he stumbles over, exhausted, and asks to go out with you to lunch that day that is somehow so endearing.

🖋️Of course, he could have easily gone on his own, but he’d rather go with you, and that just makes every time ten times more special.

🖋️As for affection, that also lies in the little things.

🖋️Holding your hand as he proofreads a script, covering you with a blanket it you fall asleep on the couch, and small forehead kisses at random points are pretty common with him.

🖋️His love is always in small doses, but remains a constant, finding its way into your everyday life and seeping through the cracks of the mundane.

🖋️His love is like going on a walk and finding little dandelions popping up in the cracks of the sidewalk. A small thing, but so bright and constantly surrounding you.

🖋️“Hrmngh?” He sputters as you walk in.

🖋️“Oh, sorry, did I wake you up?”

🖋️“Nah, you���re fine. I’ve been awake for hours.”

🖋️You knew he was(terribly) lying, noting the blanket around his shoulders and dark circles around his eyes, but didn’t say anything.

🖋️“Well, I’m just checking in. Sakuya said you collapsed earlier, so I wanted to make sure you’re okay. I also brought some curry from Izumi. It’s probably better than the instant ramen Masumi’s been hopping you up on. And I brought a water bottle since I figured you have’t had anything other than coffee, and you know how Azami is about hydration— you good?”

🖋️Tsuzuru was staring at you like you’d grown a second head. A strange feeling washed over him and it was…nice? It felt good to know someone cared so much about him, it just made him want to return the favor. He blinked dumbly before finally snapping out of his trance.

🖋️“Uh, yeah, I’m fine. Thanks for all this. Just set it on the desk.” He replied as calmly as he could.

🖋️“Alright, I trust you to actually eat it.”

🖋️Tsuzuru chuckled. “I will, I will. Thanks again.” He grinned as he ruffled your hair. You blushed a little at the affection, but he could hardly guess as to why(he just thinks of the affection as the Older Brother Instinct).

🖋️“You’re welcome. See ya, then.”

I wanted to make a post dedicated to this event, like the last one! And just like the previous one, I got a LOT of merch again and this time it's all just my blorbo hahaha 🥰💜✨ I'm really so happy to be able to contribute for this event!

To be honest with you, I didn't really get to take much photos because between the motion sickness medicine side effects and the social anxiety draining me (aside from the fact that I accidentally sat on the front), I was really just focused on chilling while staying awake the whole event hahaha Also not to sound like a fangirl, but I got to sit next to one of the artists I really admire for this event again (and cosplayers too!), yippeeee!!! (maybe accidentally sitting at the front isn't too bad)

One of the few I did take is the Hibari itabag I brought with me! This is the one Jojo gifted to me, and I made sure this is the most stacked itabag I've done so far. I even brought a few plushies with me plus the Hibari mini daki hehehe

Also, a cool thing about the artist kit I got is that the version f my postcard art that I got is the gold-foiled one the mods did a test on! I didn't really have a preference for it before, but lowkey, now I want to have gold-foiled merch of my art be made in the future?????? LIKE PLEASE ITS SO SHINY???? I AM FASCINATED???? 👀✨

Another thing is that, besides this event here in PH, the KR fans actually had their own Hibari event to celebrate his birthday too! They offered a trade with us, so we exchanged two pieces of merch with each other. They're so beautiful too! 🥰🥰🥰

Anyway, besides the kit, I actually won some prizes from the games and the raffle too!

I won the Hibari postcard from the first game where you have to guess what the title of the KHR song is just from the first 1-2 seconds of the song ahahahasfhvdsf It just so happens that the first one they played is one of the EDs I keep daydreaming an Oniyanagi version of and it's "Aoi Yume", I rose my hand so fast (even tho I planned to just chill).

Then the Dino & Tsuna cards were the prize from the Q&A game! The question was smth around "Who was the one who named Hibird?" and of course I know who that is!!! It's none other than my girlie, Haru 🥹💚✨ (if it's related to Hibird and cute girls, I will NEVER miss, your honor!)

LASTLY THAT HIBARI ICE CREAM TAPINUI!!! THE STARS ALIGNED FOR THAT!!! THE RNG GODS BLESSED ME BC THEY ACTUALLY RAFFLED THE ENTIRE TAPINUI SET WITH THE OTHER CHARACTERS, AND I NOT ONLY SOMEHOW HAPPENED TO GET MY NAME PICKED FOR THE RAFFLE, IT'S EVEN THE ONE WITH HIBARI SJBFSJDFBSHDBFSD 🙏🙏🙏 I DESERVE THIS!!! LIFE HAS BEEN SO CRUEL TO ME THE PAST MONTHS!!! I NEEDED THIS!!!

Dyḗus Pətḗr

or as I write it, Dyéus Patér. Also Dyḗus ph₂tḗr

Dyéus is the god of the Sky. The blue, bright sky of day, daylight and clouds are his natural dominion. He also fulfills the role of a Father and is the Leader of the whole pantheon (my own UPG is that he leads the déiwōs not like a king but like a father).

Dyéus is also connected to the concept of the Ártus or Hártus (with a strong h like the ch in loch). The Ártus is the universal law that underlies the cosmos, the order and beauty of it that makes life possible. Dyéus, then, upholds the Ártus and represents the concept of justice but in a cosmic and natural way (justice as in the laws of society are the dominion of another déiwos). In the trifunctional view of Proto Indo-european society, he fulfills the role of the priest-king. He's a patron of priests and the idea of doing rituals in respectful ways.

The first part of his name, Dyéus, derives from déiwos, which is the generic term for a god. So in a way he is THE god. The second part of his name, Patér, means father. Thus, seeing him as your father in the sky is totally valid (traditional even ;)!

In english his name literally means "father daylight-sky-god"

He seems to have had a connection to oaths, coming from his connection with the natural law of the Ártus.

The sun (which has its own déiwos) is sometimes referred to as "the eye of Dyéus"

Dyéus also has other names like Olyópətēr, which means All-Father, and Mitrós, which is associated with a role he had as a double deity with another god that we will see later)

1. what was your writing-highlight this year? what made it special and how will you reflect on it next year?

mentioned this in my writing in review for this year but finishing cage earlier this year really set me on a high note for the rest of the year. i really proved to myself that i can write 80k+ words in a single project; i can finish and fully flesh out a narrative, my dreams are achievable if i really put myself to it.

for a really long time i didn't think i could do it. there's a lot of reasons why i felt that way, but having people who kept up with every chapter, my partner and other friends like valen and multi listening to me rant ad nauseum about my ideas and thoughts, and giving myself permission to do something 'silly' turned out to be such a good decision. so i think next year i'm trying to take that energy into it. i'm writing for myself, my friends and my dick LMAO. but i'm also taking the strategies that i learned (ie: i need a long outline to finish something or i won't p much lol). so next year is really gonna be a planning year! i wanna have more outlines that i can go back and reread and become obsessed about sEUOSDJ

3. did you achieve everything you wanted to this year? if not, how will you go about it?

nah! but tbh i'm okay with it. getting distracted by other wips is just par for the course for me and my brain pfff so i'm not miffed that i got distracted by other things and paramour got put off to the side. i still think about paramour a LOT don't get me wrong; but khizzy and sjaak giving me brain rot is a welcome change.

i also could've never predicted i would get into conlanging--i barely knew what it was (outside of lotr really) but here i am a few months later with a whole baby language on my hands HAHA. i think i'm finally of the mindset that yeah writing is my life's purpose bc it would be meaningless without it, but its also a hobby and i wanna have fun with it <3

4. what is your favourite line you wrote this year?

this is so hard OSCJK thank god multiple people have asked this bc its definitely not just one. perusing through the things i wrote this year, i think one that stands out to me is from draft 3 of btaf (which is the actual Real Prose draft 1 attempt lol. its a whole tier system of me drawing this wip out) but its the first sentence kinda hits and i don't think i wanna change it cuz it sets the tone well:

The cruelest and craftiest of all the Devil’s handiwork—darkness—had descended upon and laid waste to the countryside.

something something, speaks of the savagery that is yet to be revealed later on, makes the wip super moody (the equivalent of the tried and true "dark and stormy night"), and alludes to the time period (cuz we're talking about the devil in deadass the first sentence PFF)

8. what are three things you're looking forward to next year?

i'm gonna be optimistic and say draft 2 (the elongated outline) of btaf will be done--i've been taking a break from it but multi's very sweet sweep of draft 1 has reinvigorated me with brain worms.

i also want to work more on he who smites the sun bc... khizzy beloved. and with that all of the wips from ph -> paramour i want to figure out how they're linked and their outlines etc

and then i think i'm just excited to just be more silly with what i write next year. i wanna get back into my art wips (tmc and broken clouds for instance) and write more smutty shenanigans with bruno and his mess. :D

PRELIMINARY ROUND - THE LEGEND OF ZELDA - ZELDA

PROPAGANDA

Tetra (The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker)

1.) Wind Waker actually has a point with its misogyny and kinda condemns the misogyny. We first see Tetra as a helpless girl in the clutches of a giant bird monster. A pirate ship catapults a boulder at the bird, which drops Tetra on the hero's home island. We find out that young Tetra is the rough-and-tumble captain of an entire pirate crew, and the brains of the outfit. We later learn that bird monster has been kidnapping a bunch of girls to find the reincarnation of the legendary Princess Zelda. It is revealed that Tetra is the next Princess Zelda. Because she is Zelda, she transforms from a tanned pirate captain into a pale princess in a dress, and her role requires her to wait in a castle for the hero to finish his quest. Which is what she does. And the point of the story is that this is wrong! The villain is wrong, and the hero's mentor is wrong—they're both hurting children and forcing them to reenact old roles in an old story, in their selfish quest to resurrect their long-dead kingdoms. Then breaking tradition, (I believe) Wind Waker Zelda is the first Zelda to wield the sacred Light Arrows and to take up an active combat role in the final battle. The happy ending is that Zelda turns back into Tetra, and she and Link set out to forge their own future. BUT THEN. The cheap sequel Phantom Hourglass (the equivalent of a direct-to-DVD Disney movie sequel tbh) pretty much opens with Tetra being turned into a stone statue. And she's a stone statue for the ENTIRE GAME until the hero rescures her. Clear-cut sidelining of a compelling female character, smells like misogyny to me. At least Tetra's identical granddaughter was a playable co-protagonist in the next sequel, but arguably Tetra founding a new monarchal country named the same as the ancient one and then actively continuing the tradition of making Princesses Zelda undermines the conclusion of Wind Waker. Tetra possibly has the most personality and most meaningful role out of all the Zeldas, and she's far from the biggest victim of misogyny here—but still, let's remember that even Tetra deserved better than she got.

2.) Was built up as a super-cool pirate leader antihero who helped out Link. Then, as soon as it's revealed that she's that era's incarnation of Zelda, she gets magically put in the standard Princess Zelda dress (which also makes her skin lighter for Some Reason), and she ends up being sequestered in a basement for her safety until the finale, where she actually gets to do something again.

3.) Idk if anyones talked about windwakers sequel game, phantom hourglass yet so i will. Dont go into ph expecting a lot of cool pirate zelda action because shes a statue for like most of it. Shes a statue and you have to go save her.

Zelda (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of

1.) Oh my god. Oh my goooooooood. She was like. Ok in botw (I don't know). But then in totk, they COULD have had her take a more active role, especially with her whole sage of time thing and the era she was in not having a "hero", but NO. She barely did anything, and then in the end she ended up sacrificing herself (at least turning into a dragon is new. Like I don't really have a problem with the dragon thing but man they dropped the fucking ball with everything else). Like one of the creators literally stated that Zelda HAD to be the damsel in distress (rescue her from a crystal, a castle, whatever) and yeah, they definitely continued that in totk. Please just give a mainline Zelda a sword or an active (fighting) role in the game I am BEGGING YOU. Damsels in distress aren't cool, especially when you hype them up to be super powerful!!! She fucking deleted the Calamity from existence in botw you could have done SOMETHING

2.) WHY CANT I EVER HAVE A MAINLINE ZELDA GAME AAAA

I hope someone else gives good propogands but this is specifically about Tears of the Kingdom. So before it came out, I tried to avoid anything and everything about the game so I could go in 100% blind but I did see a few images of course because internet people don’t tag or algorithms lol but the point it looked like Zelda was the protagonist or at least a swap where they’re both playable choices and you can swap between them because she and link looked so alike and I was so happy to play her and was like as much as I like link free my girl from never ending Princess saving needing and it was happening!!

It did not happen and she was again lost and felt like a repeat of the last game where I need to save her (not exactly the same but COMEON)

3.) forced to be a magic sealing princess when she wants to do science and build robots

Puppet History Dnd AU

Since @slimylittlemaggot has been doing so much AMAZING art for this AU, I couldn’t resist doing a bit of a write up for what the plot might be!!! (Check out their character designs for The Professor, Ryan, and Steven!!!)

The Professor is a Chronurgy Wizard who teaches at a well renowned magic school, Ryan is his apprentice and the other special guests are students studying at the academy (explains why there are repeat guests and such)

Ryan is studying to be a wizard, but ends up becoming a warlock by making a deal with his otherworldly patron, the genie

All of the musical guest puppets don’t really have to be explained away… this is a fantasy universe. Horses can talk. Hippos can sing. Oars can fall in love.

As @slimylittlemaggot mentioned, the Professor is still a puppet. No one cares. You can kill someone by making a ‘your mom’ joke in dnd. A sentient puppet is FINE.

Essentially, the Professor takes Ryan (and another student) through time to learn different lessons about magic and history. They encounter different people / beings along the way (the puppets, god, all that jazz) who help them to learn about the different events like on the show.

The puppet characters won’t be exactly the same as in the show, since this AU takes place in a world with a completely different history than our own. However, the events the Professor teaches Ryan about are similar in spirit and nature to the world events Shane chooses to cover on PH, but are all connected to magic / the invention / discovery of important spells and artifacts that influenced its history. That being said, certain puppet characters will remain the same, others being slightly altered to better fit storytelling from a fantasy setting.

I’m unsure exactly on how the coveted cup / history master situation would work (thoughts on calling it ‘history wizard / lizard’ as a reference to the latest ep???), but the point of conflict in this AU would DEFINITELY be Ryan getting jealous about how the other students always seem to be better at history / magic than him. (Which of course leads him to making a deal with the genie in order to be better at magic and accidentally getting the Professor “killed” / sent back in time, however that would work in this AU).

I’m not EXACTLY sure about how the Substitute would work in this AU, but due to the existence of magic, he could definitely be some sort of evil clone / alternate timeline version of the Professor, or even some evil being pretending to be him!!! This and the Professor’s “death” (since death in dnd is rarely permanent, he could actually die!?!?) are two things that I don’t have concrete ideas on rn but know that there are almost LIMITLESS ways to translate them into this AU (very exciting!!! If you have ideas, please do share!!!)

I think it would be very cool to incorporate the PCs from SD&DND into this AU somehow… maybe as students at the magic school and possibly guests who come along for some “episodes”??? (I just love Steve, Stephanos and Quezza so much, dammit!!!)

Getting kind of meta here, but I think it would be silly if “Estranged Producer Shane Madej” was actually the DM. Does anyone in-world know about him??? Who knows. But he IS the creative mind behind Puppet History and it only makes sense for him to be connected to this AU in some way (if anyone thinks of a different, in-universe role for him to fill PLEASE lmk!!!)

Steven is NOT an alien in this au. Why would you ever think that? He could never be an alien. No way. He’s the LEAST alien guy I’ve ever seen in my life. (lying)

ok so my proximal aquarium goals

which I ALSO can’t work on, same like my anytaur goals, are: unpot the possibly direly mislabelled emersed “Pink Sprite” (I would be DELIGHTED if this were Rotala indica but I have doubts), plant it in substrate. Fill stock tank to its proper full volume and reposition other emersed and marginal plants so they don’t drown.

This is kinda gonna flood the system with 3.0ppm combined ammonia/ammonium unless I am wildly misremembering—googles “chloramine stoichiometry”—ok I’m not misremembering I just never learned it to begin with. We do have 3ppm ish chlorine residual around here, but we probably start out with only around a fifth of that as bound up ammoniwhatever, per this Total Coliform Rule paper. So my tapwater is ~0.6ppm ammoniwhatever, which then decides whether to be ammonia or ammonium (after the addition of water conditioner) based on pH, which is 7.5ish rn in the tank per the test kit (reasonably protective against ammonia).

I am customarily off by an order of magnitude. mg/L is the same as ppm right. Yes. Thank god. I mean I’m still CUSTOMARILY off by an order of magnitude but this tracks against my one big water change making the stock tank slightly “worse” on the scale of 0.25ppm to 0.5ppm colors.

I can’t get out there to see wtf it is currently. I’ve never seen nitrites/nitrates, but plants rotting as they acclimate might be keeping some ammonia/um around, as well as sopping it back up.
