How To Invest Beyond Traditional Stocks and Bonds with Thomas McPherson
Private Money Academy Conference:
Free Report:
A real estate entrepreneur and U.S. Navy veteran, Thomas enjoys visionary work with diverse teams to solve challenging problems. Thomas began his real estate career as a broker with Sperry Van Ness, winning their National Rookie of the Year Award in 2010.
He then moved to Hendricks & Partners (now Berkadia), the premier multifamily brokerage firm in the US. In 2012, Thomas founded Fenix Private Capital Group LLC to focus on improving underperforming real estate assets throughout Arizona.
At Fenix, Thomas participated in purchasing and repositioning value-added multifamily, office, retail, and industrial properties across Arizona.
This was accomplished by buying properties via short-sale, auction, REO, or conventional sales using personal capital, private lenders, banks, and raising equity. In addition to purchasing real property, Thomas began buying distressed debt in 2011, buying nonperforming loans (NPLs) from national, regional, and community banks and private parties.
Recognizing a need for leadership in sustainable development, Thomas positioned Fenix PCG to be a pioneer development company of highly sustainable mixed-use real estate in urban cores.
Partnering with Habitat Metro, Thomas has since developed the 70-unit mixed-use property Eco PHX in downtown Phoenix and Eco Mesa, the 102-unit mixed-use property in downtown Mesa. Fenix and Habitat Metro continue to develop their eco-branded and highly sustainable multifamily projects in the Phoenix area.
In 2019, Thomas noted that real estate prices were eclipsing pricing records set before the Great Recession. Sensing an opportunity to help borrowers, lenders, and investors if (and when) the market corrected, he co-founded DO Income Fund, a distressed debt fund that purchases underperforming and nonperforming loans originated by private lenders across the country.
Since then, Thomas and his team have transacted on hundreds of loans from Washington to Florida across a broad spectrum of property types.

Show Me The Body Completes ‘Corpus II’ with New EP and Launches Corpus Grows Tour
Tumblr media
Show Me The Body has unleashed a new EP, completing the Corpus II full-length LP, which began with Corpus II EP I released in July. This latest project continues their Corpus series, a bold testament to the spirit of collaboration and community that defines their work. With Corpus II, Show Me The Body connects across genres and scenes, bringing in artists who share the collective’s vision. While the first half featured heavy hitters like B L A C K I E, King Yosef, Starker, YL, and ZULU, EP II steps up with an equally stacked lineup, including High Vis, Special Interest, Spellling, Ian Shelton (Regional Justice Center, Militarie Gun), Destiny Yusuf (ZULU), VCR, Corbin, and Nick Hakim. The Corpus Grows Tour, which supports this release, runs through early November, hitting major cities and taking over festivals like Louder Than Life, Furnace Fest, Aftershock, and VIVA PHX. The tour culminates in a massive show at the Knockdown Center in Queens on November 2nd. Alongside Show Me The Body, hardcore outfit BIB will join for the full tour, with additional support from acts like Special Interest, ZelooperZ, Bearcat, and BLACK NOI$E on select dates. More than just a tour, the Corpus Grows is a partnership with Corpus NYC, a mutual aid and creative collective founded by Show Me The Body in 2015. Originally based in NYC’s DIY scene, the collective has since grown to a global scale, continuing to organize intentional, non-traditional spaces for the youth. Their live shows—chaotic, ceremonial, and undeniably raw—speak to the underground pulse of punk and hip-hop, carrying the collective’s ethos worldwide. Since their formation in 2009, Show Me The Body—fronted by Julian Cashwan Pratt (banjo and vocals) and Harlan Steed (bass), along with drummer Jackie McDermott—has released several EPs and three full-length albums. Their most recent effort, Trouble The Water (2022), recorded at Corpus Studios in Long Island City with Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Turnstile), pays homage to New York’s subcultures and the physical city itself. The album cements Show Me The Body’s role in not just shaping the hardcore genre but in reshaping the very sounds that define the city, blending gritty punk energy with an unyielding sense of community. https://open.spotify.com/track/31RqWiAuNsNWcUj7VgsO6H?si=eZ0pjcyoS9SSmpT19vzkIg&context=spotifyalbum0c4YLFLYTR4G1HChoIhqcI Read the full article

Destination: Sedona, Arizona
Think of striking, colorful desert scenery with beautiful, expansive vistas and lots of red and white rocks. If Sedona isn’t already on your mountain bike bucket list, it should be! The small town welcomes mountain bikers on most of its trails. Miles and miles of twisty trails with rocky, technical terrain and significant exposure will challenge even the most advanced riders although there are also more mellow options for beginners and intermediate riders, too. Perhaps the biggest problem you’ll face while there is trying to stay to focused on your rides when there are so many great spots to stop and take in the view or take pictures!
Tumblr media
When To Go: Riding Seasons
We recommend going to ride in Sedona in the spring or fall. Many riders enjoy trips from late February through early May - it’s a great time to hone some early season skills and fitness while it’s not yet as warm, sunny and dry in many other parts of the country. Fall is another great time - think about booking your trip in September through November. Though you can ride at other times of the year, you may have to deal with snow and cold in the winter or uncomfortably hot temperatures and intense sun in the summer.
Tumblr media
What You Need To Know About The Altitude
Sedona sits at 4,350 feet. While not a high altitude relative to many mountain bike destinations, it is high enough that if you’re from sea level, you’ll probably notice some of the usual effects of riding at altitude -- like being more easily out of breath on climbs -- until you are acclimatized to it. Give yourself time to acclimate, especially for the first few days.
Some of the best ways to ease the transition to riding at altitude are to drink lots of water, get plenty of rest and limit alcohol consumption. Being fit prior to arrival is an advantage and will make it easier for you pedal at altitude.
Tumblr media
Where To Ride
Among the most famous rides in Sedona are the 3 H’s. They are not, however, for the faint of heart. We suggest undertaking them if you have good technical skills and some comfort with exposure.
Hiline Trail (3 miles, 300+ feet up/600+ feet down): Hiline Trail itself is just three intense yet scenic miles. Most people ride it as part of a longer route including other trails. Considering creating a lollipop by connecting it with the Cathedral Rock Loop Trail (to complete the loop) and the Slim Shady Trail (the stick of the lollipop).
The Hogs: Refers to several trails including Hog Heaven, Hog Wash and High on the Hog. You can link them together in various ways for a pig-themed yet challenging kind of a ride.
Hangover (8.4 miles, 1,170 feet): A very scenic ride on an exposed cliff.
Tumblr media
Some other rides, perhaps more accessible to riders of different levels, include the following:
Chuckwagon (5.1 miles, ~500 feet): A fun, twisty trail with plenty of great views but less exposure. Turn it into a 9.1-mile loop by combining it with the Mescal and Long Canyon Trails.
Old Post-Ridge (6.7 miles, 763 feet): While this ride is calmer in terms of exposure, you’ll still need plenty of climbing fitness to enjoy it. It’s also accessible from many places you might end up staying.
Scorpion (2.1 miles, 447 feet (down)): It’s not long, but it sure is fun. You can make it more advanced by veering off onto Pyramid Trail, or add some distance and time to it by combining with other area trails like returning via the Old Post and Herkenham Trails
Slim Shady (2.6 miles, 260 feet): We’re still trying to figure out how to do this trail without having Eminem’s “Slim Shady” song on repeat in our heads the entire time, but we can say it’s fun singletrack in either direction and can be worked into any of several local loops.
Don’t be fooled by the distances you see listed for each trail. Your rides will not be as short as they sound. Due to the relatively technical nature of the trails, most of the trails are not particularly high speed. You’ll also probably want to take some time for photos en route, and you’ll inevitably need to allow some time to yield to other trail users like the many hikers who frequent the area, too.
We suggest finding out more about the many Sedona area trails on MTB Project and Trail Forks.
Tumblr media
Special Events
Sedona is home to several popular annual MTB events. If you enjoy the social aspect of mountain biking, come on out to these festivals, meet riders from all over and make some new riding friends as you explore a world-class riding destination.
Sedona MTB Festival - a three-day mountain bike festival in early March each year. It includes an expo, bike demos, shuttled rides, a beer garden and great live music.
ROAM West - a women’s only mountain bike festival held in late October each year. As they say on their website, there is no pandering, no skills clinics, just plain unsucky fun. #LadyShred
Tumblr media
Bike Shops
Forgot something or need to get your bike fixed? Support these local shops:
Absolute Bikes Sedona
Fat Tire Bike Shop
Over The Edge Sports
Sedona Bike & Bean
Tumblr media
Places To Eat And Drink
ChocolaTree Organic Eatery - Funky, delightful oasis for seasonal vegetarian American fare & sweet treats.
Gerardo’s Italian Kitchen - Italian home cooking ranging from pizza to pasta dishes in the heart of Sedona.
Dellepiane Sedona - Known of its gourmet burgers (including vegan options) and quality fast food.
Old Sedona Bar & Grill - Casual American grill and sports bar with great views of the red rocks.
Sedona Bike & Bean - Not only can you get a great cup of joe, but you can also pick up whatever other bits you need ahead of or after your next ride.
Tumblr media
Places To Stay
There are plenty of local hotels, and you can always find a variety of accommodations on AirBnB and VRBO. Camping is available in the surrounding Coconino National Forest.
We’ve happily stayed at the Sedona Real Inn & Suites, which comes with a daily breakfast and has convenient amenities like a bike wash station. And you can pedal right out your door to hop on nearby trails.
How To Get There
If you’re not close enough to drive, we suggest flying into the Phoenix airport (PHX) and renting a car to enjoy a scenic two-hour drive from low desert up to high desert.
Tumblr media
How To Get Your Bike There
Ship your bike with BikeFlights.com and save time, money and hassle instead of flying with it. We suggest shipping directly to/from your hotel; however, you can also ship to a local bike shop. The latter is a great option if you’d prefer to hire a pro to assemble and/or pack your bike. Always call your ship-to location in advance to coordinate with them and let them know that your bike will be coming.

The Green Axis | Hitesh Mistry and Associates (@hiteshmistry_associates) | Ahmedabad We had a perfect square plot to play with, placing the the house on the center of plot led us to two axis on the site with good amount of space in front and back, the plan was worked out in detail according to these axis. While planning the house according to axis which made the spaces face the views. The design of the house is an extrovert one, which makes each room/space connected to the outdoor with a view in all four directions. The #house plan has two vertical and horizontal axis which connects with all the rooms on both the sides- it has 5 spacious bedrooms, alone with formal and a casual living room, 5 master bathrooms with connected dressings and many outdoor seating areas. Having kids living a hostel life they wanted the house to be felt like a vacation home for them which made us include a pool and home theater in the house. The central theme of the house is Modern contemporary. Material pallets include- cortern steel, Italian marbles, exposed concrete, brass. #Architecture, #interior and #landscape is done by the firm Hitesh Mistry and Associates, thus is synchronized well with each other. “I thought I needed to run and find somebody to love But all I needed was some coconut oil Don't worry 'bout the small things, I know I can do all things Mama always told me it would be alright I thought I needed the rush, but there was never enough 'Cause all I needed was some coconut oil Don't worry 'bout the small things, I know I can do all things Mama always told me that and she was right”
It feels amazing to wake in a space with clear energy and a mind that’s solely focused on self and my goals. Despite recovering from a pretty crappy stomach virus, I’m feeling incredibly energetic. If I had nourishment in my system, I’d most definitely go for a run or attend yoga. I’ve been getting a download of creative insights. Projects I’d like to work on surrounding food and utilizing herb and fruit mixtures to manifest healing in the body in delicious, plant-based ways.
I feel blockages falling away and it allowing for my own energy to flow once more. It’s no longer lead by fear or insecurity and I can't speak on how good that feels.
I’ve been very fortunate as of late to be blessed with beautiful feminine energy. I mean truly kindred spirits.
I spent my NYE at an all women’s queer party smoking and speaking with the hiring manager of the Dept. of Homeland Security and I was just absolutely blown away by 1) how opposite she and my ex gf (who was sitting across from us in the corner) were despite both being Virgos and both being in the same field of work 2) how much I needed her lessons and insight. I went into the new year with my eyes reopened to the lessons I had often preached but fell away from in practice. She also had a connection in Phx, AZ. A homeopathic physician I could use as a resource. I jumped on her offer. But she’s filled my life with nothing but positivity and acceptance ever since the moment she sat next to me and I’m just grateful.
Same with other beautiful feminine connections and reconnections I’ve been making. I just have this calm and trust that this transition is going to be...beautiful and damn near seamless and I move back into self and my god-given path.
A beautiful being invited me to the river tomorrow. It’ll be a fairly warm day, sun shining. I think I’ll take her up on said offer. I think it’ll be healing to be in my element with good energy that has only the best of intentions.
I can kind of tell the year this is going to be and the type of energy I'll be surrounded by and the purpose it’ll serve.
I’m letting the old and stale fall away and and making way for new and refreshing connections and experiences. I figured I just couldn’t keep doing the same thing expecting to get different results. I spent my entire 2018 doing that.
Taking new pathways and choosing to trust where they’ll lead.

The album cements Show Me The Body’s role in not just shaping the hardcore genre but in reshaping the very sounds that define the city, blending gritty punk energy with an unyielding sense of community. https://open.spotify.com/track/31RqWiAuNsNWcUj7VgsO6H?si=eZ0pjcyoS9SSmpT19vzkIg&context=spotifyalbum0c4YLFLYTR4G1HChoIhqcI Read the full article

have been thinking about my phoenix is a fey au non-stop. phoenix is secretly given his magatama when he leaves kurain village as a child. post class trial nick really likes edgeworth of course but he likes him even more because of how honest (read: blunt) miles is. miles values the truth and that can make him seem rude but Nick is like wow you have never lied to me once <3 bestie. Nick is also a tremendously horrible liar because I think it would be funny
